Sandra is a normal, mildly temperamental young woman, fresh out of college and working at a temp agency. She owns a home with her two friends, Jack and Crystal. Really, she sort of runs the place. Her normal life changed drastically following a freak magical incident, which turned her into a demon. She has been struggling with her new life even since, but can always count on her closest friends to cheer her up. However, she just wants to be normal again, as being a demon isn't all sunshine lolipops and rainbows, and her very presence on Earth has a lot of unexpected consequences...

After a series of events, Sandra succumbed to her demonic urges, and turned against her friends, making her whole hometown her playground and torturing people daily. After going too far, Jack realized that the Sandra they knew is gone and had no choice but to banish her into another dimension. Sandra ended up in the Subfusc, a magical dreamland in which she lost her powers and transformed back into a human. There, she met Viv, a mysterious woman who helped her remember what it was to be human, but also an archdemon who only wished to corrupt her even further in order to persuade her to free him from his prison.

At the end of her stay in the Subfusc, Sandra recovers her powers and is a demon once again, but also regains the humanity she lost. She goes back to Earth, with a new outlook on her life, and ends up becoming the leader of the monsters who settled in her hometown. Meanwhile, Jack notices her return, and prepares himself to fight once again a former friend who hurt him and his sister, and who he has every reason to think is a menace to the world...
----
* ActionGirl: Thanks to her demonic form and the powers which go with it, she is able to fight quite well when she needs to, and overpowered numerous foes several times without any external help.
* AscendedDemon: [[spoiler:Becomes one after the "Sandra in the Outlands" (Subfusc) arc, thanks to the help of Viv and Mabel. She remains a demon, but is no longer seeking to hurt others for her own enjoyment, and is trying to make her fellow monsters and humans co-exist as peacefully as possible. Other demons pretty much consider her to be a traitor]].
* AsideGlance: Sandra does one after a spider of the Subfusc begins to talk to her.
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:Following the events of the Subfusc arc, Zandra comes to regret her past actions and turns a new leaf, choosing to keep being a demon while keeping her morality, though she doesn't expect her friends to forgive her for what she did]].
* BadPowersBadPeople: Turning into a demon made Sandra very powerful [[spoiler:(after all, her powers come directly from an archdemon)]], however she also gained demonic urges along with her powers, and those urges include torturing people, [[EvilFeelsGood since terrorizing and hurting them bring her pleasure]].
* BerserkButton: Don't tell Sandra that she is lonely despite herself. She's likely to drop you from a great height and hiss at you. Also don't hurt her friends, unless you're ready to face hell's fury. Well, unless she is the one hurting them...
* BreastExpansion: She has her breasts becoming slightly bigger during the ''Heaven on Earth'' arc, something which she discusses herself InUniverse. [[spoiler:Eventually revealed to be a side-effect of Jack's magic]].
* BreathWeapon: She can breath fire on her enemies. [[spoiler:And on her former friends]].
* BroughtDownToNormal: [[spoiler:Being banished to the Subfusc had the secondary effect of turning her back into a human, something which freaked her out.]]
* CantStayNormal: [[spoiler:After wanting for a long time to become normal again, her wish is finally granted in the Subfusc... Except that at that point, she came to enjoy being a demon, and is definitely ''not'' happy to be back to her human form. By the end of the arc, after solving her identity crisis, she gained her demon form back]].
* CapturedSuperEntity: Briefly becomes one when [[spoiler:Bloo manages to capture her and bind her with special chains]].
* CatchAFallingStar: Sandra saves [[spoiler:Crystal]] from a deadly fall near the end of the ''Heaven on Earth'' arc.
* TheCorruptible: During the Subfusc arc, [[spoiler:in which Incubus is trying his best to manipulate her to fulfill his desires by baiting her with the possibility of giving her back her demonic powers, and more.]]
* TheCorruption: Being turned into a demon slowly but surely corrupted her. While she seemed to keep her mind and free-will intact (despite being ''very'' depressed), the very fact that she is now a demon affected everything and everyone around her, including inanimate objects such as her house, which slowly turned into an EldritchLocation. Her very being also attracted all kind of weird creatures, such as werewolves and vampires, [[spoiler:the latter having migrated ''en-masse'' to her town during the time skip (along with some ghouls)]]. When Sandra [[spoiler:snapped and decided to embrace her demonic nature, she got DrunkOnTheDarkSide and lost any remnant of what made her human, forgetting her memories of her human life (at least, until Viv, Mabel and even Incubus in his own twisted way helped her to remember)]]. As Gregory puts it, when he is explaining to Sam why he is hunting her:
--> '''Gregory''':This town has been consumed by chaos and mayhem. Werewolves, disapperances, burnings, fear, panic, occult forces gathering under her. She is poisoning this place... This world. She is a seed of darkness. Whether or not Sandra has an evil personality is irrelevant. The essence of hell on Earth can only bring harm. As a demonic creature, she represents a deleterious element which can not be tolerated.
* CreepyLongFingers: She has longer-than-average fingers (which also double as claws).
* CrisisOfFaith: [[ZigzaggedTrope Zig zagged]]. Sandra refers to herself as an [[http://www.zebragirl.net/?date=2013-01-26 agnostic]] (you may want to take a look at the useful notes page of {{Usefulnotes/Atheism}}, which includes the definition of agnoticism), and throughout the story had many moments of [[http://www.zebragirl.net/?date=2004-01-02 doubts and anger towards God]]. After meeting Viv, she is quite shaken to discover that [[spoiler:she is the biblical Eve, making her the living proof that God really does exists]].
* CursedWithAwesome: On the one hand, becoming a demon sure has its drawbacks, and for Sandra who just wanted to be normal, her new form is a curse which ruined her life, preventing her from seeing her mother and building normal relationships. On the other hand, she became incredibly powerful and got a lot of powers.
* DareToBeBadass: She gets one, from [[spoiler:Incubus]], [[SubvertedTrope but not in the usual way]]. [[spoiler:Incubus wants Sandra to be DaddysLittleVillain, while she wants to be TheAtoner, so he taunts her with taking his power and proving him wrong by not being [[AntiAntiChrist corrupted by it]], while he expects that she would get [[DrunkOnTheDarkSide corrupted]].]]
* DarkActionGirl: Shifting to the bad side inevitably led her to become this. She wanted to be feared, and she damn well succeeded.
* TheDarkSideWillMakeYouForget: Struggling against this is a major part of the series. [[spoiler:It's eventually played straight: during her time with Viv, Sandra falls off into a time stream, in which she has a vision of a woman taking care of her after she got wounded. She doesn't recognize the woman, and it takes her a moment to realize that it was her own mother]].
* DeadpanSnarker: Sandra loves to snark. That aspect only got exacerbated when she became evil.
* DemonOfHumanOrigin: The whole premice of the comic is based on Sandra becoming a demon.
* DontCallMeSir: Played with. Sandra refuses to be called "mistress" by [[spoiler:her monsters]], because it makes her feel like a dominatrix. However, she is fine being called "Ma'am" or "Majesty".
* TheDreaded:
** Eventually, Sandra became this to her whole hometown when she decided to embrace being a demon. She also became this to her friends, who had no other solution but to ban her into another dimension in order to stop her. [[spoiler:Five in-universe years later, her former friends still view her as a very dangerous being and are extremely wary of her.]]
** After the Subfusc arc, [[spoiler:while she seems to act as a reasonable ruler, the monsters of her hometown consider her powerful and would rather not anger her.]]
* DrivenToVillainy: Her demonic urges and her depression slowly eroded Sandra's mind, but she managed to keep her conscience and morality despite the circumstances. It is only when Gregory pushed her too far by attacking her friends and trying to drag her to hell that she snaps.
* DrunkOnTheDarkSide: Let's just say that when Sandra decided to become a "normal" demon, she really committed to it.
* EmotionEater: Negative emotions such as fear, pain and agony make her feel ecstatic. She even mentions that she is able to "eat" fear.
* EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas: After being turned into a demon, Sandra had to hide her condition from her mother, which she hasn't seen ever since, something which depressed her deeply. [[spoiler:The simple sight of an illusion of her during Incubus's dream sequence is enough to make her have a MyGodWhatHaveIDone moment and makes her burst into tears. By the end of the comic, it is hinted that Zandra lied to Clarity about seeing her mother again, or that at the very least their reunion turned sour]].
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Even when Sandra was at her worst, she avoided to hurt Crystal directly, and admitted that she misses her.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Even at her worst, Sandra never killed anybody. She did threaten to do it several times, but she never went through with it.
* EvilFeelsGood: Torturing people has an addicting effect on Sandra, who absolutely relished it when she turned evil.
* EvilGloating: She loved to do this during her dark days. She especially did this to Sam, who she kept captive at the time.
* EvilIsHammy: With Sandra casting away all of her inhibitions and acting like what she thought a normal demon was, she absolutely loved to chew the scenery.
* EvilLaugh: She absolutely loves these. [[spoiler:The one she let out when she regained her demonic form in the Subfusc even gave Viv chills.]]
* FaceHeelTurn: Sandra is one of the very few examples of this with the main character of the strip. [[spoiler:After the "Sandra in the Outlands" arc, the comic is pushing her back into "Face" territory... or at least out of the "Heel" side of the equation.]]
* FacialMarkings: Her new skin comes with a stripes theme which extends partly to her face, and the surrounding of her eyes are blackened.
* FailedASpotCheck: When [[spoiler:Incubus kidnaps Mabel]], [[http://www.zebragirl.net/index.php?date=2012-10-12 Viv tells Sandra]] to go after them, but she says she can't without her demon powers. [[spoiler:Whether she didn't notice or forgot in the carnage, Mabel's BeYourself speech has reawakened Sandra's Zebra Girl form]]. The cackling when Viv points it out can be heard for miles (and even across dimensions).
* ForTheEvulz: Once she began to act without restraints as a demon, she acted evilish for kicks.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: Sandra was a perfectly normal human and would have rather stayed that way. However, destiny didn't agree, as a unfortunate accident transformed her into a demonic creature. And after a couple years, her will broke and she became a terrifying monster who hurt even those who were the closest to her.
* FullyEmbracedFiend: Sandra pretty much lost this battle once the professor pushed her to it. [[spoiler:Though this doesn't last]].
* {{Hellfire}}: She showed that she could summon it on some rare occasions, though most of the time she sticks with her regular pyrokinetic powers.
* HaveIMentionedIAmHeterosexualToday: [[spoiler:When Fake!Sam, who acts as her smart-side during the LotusEaterMachine sequence, points out that Incubus created sexy Fake!Crystal because of Sandra's lingering feelings for her, she tries very hard to deny it:]]
-->'''Sandra''': (hearing a door bell) That's probably a fake Mike now. A sexy fake Mike. Because sexy Crystal didn't work. Because I like men.
-->[[spoiler:'''Fake!Sam''']]: *{{facepalm}}*
* HealingFactor: She is able to recover from wounds very quickly, and was able to fly quickly without any problems despite her wings having been pierced minutes ago.
* HeelRealization: [[spoiler:Has one when she is being trapped into Incubus's fake world]].
* HornedHumanoid: Comes with the territory when you become a demon. She has two frontal horns and two others which sprout from the back of her head.
* HumblePie: [[spoiler:The whole Subfusc arc is one to Sandra, in which she is BroughtDownToNormal and becomes absolutely helpless. This experience helped her to regain both her humanity and her morality which she had discarded when she turned evil.]]
* IJustWantToBeNormal: Of all people to be afflicted by a ForcedTransformation, it was Sandra rather than her more adventurous friends. She lampshades this when, after her FaceHeelTurn, she reflects on the fact that she actually became evil partly because if she couldn't be a normal human, she'd be a normal ''demon''. No matter what she does in this direction, it will backfire on her because the Cosmos is out to make her special, whether she likes it or not.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: While she has the main cast to support her, Sandra is pretty much stuck inside her house and can't form new relationships. The few times she tried to meet other normal humans didn't go very well. As a result, she feels incredibly lonely, though she won't admit it.
* {{Immortality}}: Sandra doesn't know what her lifespan is, but [[http://www.zebragirl.net/?date=2013-10-19 Viv gave her a hint]] that she is probably immortal.
* ImmortalityBisexuality: It takes her a while, but Sandra eventually accepts that she loves both men and women. In the epilogue, she is in a relationship with [[spoiler:Betty]], and Doyenne is blatantly making a pass at her (not that Sandra mind, as she would welcome the ThreeWaySex).
* {{Invisibility}}: Sandra's powers increased after the Subfusc arc, allowing her to turn herself and her allies invisible. [[spoiler:She is even able to hide herself from Jack, who can't even sense her while she is just a few feet from him. Crystal and Wally can "smell" she is here, but can't pinpoint her location at all]].
* ItsAllAboutMe: Her outlook falls into this when she embraces her demonic nature, to an extreme - her way of making others suffer as she decides they deserve, due to her own misfortunes. In her mind [[http://www.zebragirl.net/?date=2012-05-20 people should even be grateful for her torturing, because she made them feel alive and gave them a unique experience]] - even if she did take it too far - and her friends trying to stop her from hurting people [[http://www.zebragirl.net/?date=2011-02-18 is just them refusing to accept her for what she is.]] Demons are indicated to be naturally like this (Incubus' opinion of her when they meet, for example, is so self centered that [[EvilCannotComprehendGood he fails to recognize her character development]]), and even when she started to regain her humanity this was one of the last things to linger: the final straw breaks when she's forced to acknowledge the enormity of what she's done (ironically, [[NiceJobFixingItVillain thanks to Incubus]]). After returning home she seems to have left that behind somewhat - she still misses the torture, but her wanting people to have loved her for it is more clearly her wishing [[LonelyAtTheTop she still had]] [[IJustWantToHaveFriends people who cared about her]].
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: At the end of the comic, Sandra decides that [[spoiler:she has to let go of Crystal]], in order for her to be truly happy and grow as a person instead of becoming her SatelliteLoveInterest. This decision leaves Sandra in tears.
* MeaningfulRename: She renames herself [[spoiler:Zandra]] when leaving the Subfusc, after having realized who she is and what she really wants to be. In the epilogue, she gets another rename, and goes by the name of [[spoiler:Khazandra]].
* MindManipulation: Seems to be a common demon power. Sandra can enter the mind of people and manipulate their memories to push them to follow her desires, or make them see things that aren't there.
* MonsterLord: When she gets back from the Subfusc she names herself Overlord of the monsters moving into Miscellaneous.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:Nearly said word for word when she truly realizes what hell she put her friends through when she tortured them, after being tortured herself by Incubus:]]
-->'''Sandra:''' [[spoiler:Holy God. Oh God. It was stupid. I was... I was ''torturing'' people. Was I '''insane?!''' '''''What have I done??''''']]
* NaturalWeapon: After turning into a demon, it pretty much comes with the territory: fangs, a blade-like tail, fire-breathing, acid blood... Her new body granted her a lot of dangerous gifts.
* NightmareFace: You never ''ever'' want to angry Sandra. [[http://www.zebragirl.thecomicseries.com/comics/506/ She will become one of the scariest things you ever saw.]]
* NeverMyFault: At first blaming things on her circumstances (and Jack) made sense, but it slowly got more hollow. While embracing her inner demon, she took sadistic pleasure in (among other things) trying to force others to take responsibility and feel guilt over her actions. During the Subfusc arc, a lot of Viv's ways of trying to help her through her issues involve subtly exposing her denial when she does this - such as when Sandra is distraught upon realizing [[spoiler: [[TheDarkSideWillMakeYouForget she forgot her own mother]] and tries to claim it wasn't her fault because she left her old life behind.]]
* OurDemonsAreDifferent: Sandra became a full-fledged demon, with the whole package, but [[spoiler:her special nature (being "born" from an archdemon) and her stance towards humanity and what she wants to be (post-Subfusc arc) made her unique and set her aside from other demons, making her reviled in Hell. Her uniqueness is emphazised by the demons giving her and Gregore a special name to describe their species: Nefastis]].
* PlayingWithFire: Sandra acquired fire powers after being transformed into a demon, and is able to set people on fire with her mind. This power was used as a RunningGag earlier in the comic, with Sandra putting Jack ablaze regularly. As the comic went on, she used it less and less, to the point she doesn't use it anymore. It was eventually revealed that said power only works on humans, and that supernatural creatures are effectively immune to it. It doesn't stop her from being able to burn them the hard way though with her fire breath.
* PrecisionFStrike: She threw quite a lot of them when she was banished by Jack to the Subfusc, and a few more there as well. Most of them were barely [[CensorBox censored]].
* PrehensileTail: Sandra's tail is very flexible, and can be effectively used as a weapon, a lasso or a restraining device. She can even increase its length, something that Viv called the "infinite tail" constriction technique.
* ProtagonistJourneyToVillain: Sandra [[FaceHeelTurn slowly goes insane]] following her transformation into a demon. Her drive to become human again slowly fades away the longer she remains in that form, and at one point she completly embraces her evilness, making her town and friends her playthings. Seeing that she had now become a danger which can't be restrained or convinced to go back to her older self, she is banished to an alternate dimension by Jack. In said dimension, she regains her human form, something which upsets her greatly because at that point she clearly came to enjoy being a demon.
* PsychicPowers: Sandra developped some when she became a demon. Most notably is her ability to use telepathy, but also illusions and all sorts of mind manipulations.
* {{Seers}}: Eventually develops a low key ability to see the future. Notably, she guesses Rebecca's new name before she even introduces herself as such. She instinctively asks Sam if his girlfriend, Mary, whom she never met, was sick. Less than a minute later, Sam takes a phone-call from Mary announcing him she was pregnant. She also saw what the future would be if she turned Crystal into a demon like her. Her new power carries a special significance when you take into account that she renames herself [[spoiler:Khazandra]] later.
* SenseLossSadness: As a demon, [[http://askzandra.tumblr.com/post/106121777156/forever Sandra doesn't need to eat or drink anymore]], sustaining herself with invisible and intangible things. Naturally, she misses her sense of taste, and she'd rather forget about what she has lost. She is still able to taste coffee, somehow. [[WebComic/TheOrderOfTheStick Don't tell that to Xykon, though]].
* {{Shapeshifting}}: Eventually develops this power in the epilogue, allowing her to transform into [[spoiler:a pony (making what was until then an april fool officially canon), a horse, or simply altering her physical traits]].
* SlasherSmile: After she embraced her demonic self, Sandra became very fond of these.
* SmugSnake: Sandra is usually friendly, despite her tendency to snark. However, once she decided to act like a demon, she became incredibly smug on top of becoming cruel. Considering her power and the Jack's inability to stop her, no wonder she got a little cocky... A little too much, in fact. Thinking she was invincible is precisely what allowed Jack to turn tables on her. [[spoiler:After going back to a much nicer persona, she drops this aspect entirely]].
* SuperToughness: Suffice to say, demons are tougher than normal humans. She has been able to take quite a few hits that would have killed anybody remotely normal.
* TakeAThirdOption: [[spoiler:The Subfusc arc consists of Sandra grappling between her opposing natures as demon and human, with Lord Incubus and Viv trying to win her over to their respective sides. The one who finally wins her over is Mad Mabel, whose mental state is likewise confused]].
* TearsOfRemorse: [[spoiler:Sandra completely bursts into tears during her MyGodWhatHaveIDone moment]].
* {{Telepathy}}: Sandra is able to communicate with others by thoughts. It is how she managed to control one innocent bystander to help her escape her cage, and how she speaks with Gregore when he is in hell.
* TookALevelInJerkass: Big time during her FaceHeelTurn. [[spoiler:It takes a while before she reverts back to a nicer persona]].
* VillainousBreakdown: Has an ''epic'' one when Jack banishes her to the Subfusc.
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: Discussed in-universe between Doyenne and her. After being alive for between [[spoiler:two to three centuries]], Zandra has developped (again) depression. However, [[spoiler:Clarity]]'s presence allowed Zandra to feel happy again.
* WingedHumanoid: Flying is one of the first thing she truly enjoyed when she turned into a demon [[spoiler:and one of the things she missed the most when she was turned back into a human during the Subfusc arc.]]
* WolverineClaws: She is more used to fight with others methods, but she has some nasty fangs.
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: Sandra became quite unhinged when she turned evil.

[[quoteright:190:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/d52d55db1ab385b83dec5a240f69ad6b.gif]]

Jack Clarity is a young man with plenty of direction in his life. That direction just happens to be all over the place. He's a bit of a pervert and an irritant to Sandra, but they've been a circle of friends since a very young age. Initially the comic relief of the trio, the adventures he lived through forced him to mature quickly, as he needed to tend to Sandra's mutation and protect his friends from the changes of their lives.

Years of training made him a very powerful mage in his own right. He became a key member of the mage society and is seen recruiting people with magic potential. Sandra's return drove him to end his self-imposed exile and come back to his hometown, wary that she will seek revenge against him and her friends and ready to face her.
----
* BackFromTheDead: He genuinely died during the ''Magi-net'' arc. However, he came back almost immediately, as "Jack the Plaid". Harold can't help but notice that Jack basically pulled "a Gandalf", and recognizes that Jack ascended.
* BattleCouple: With [[spoiler:Tomie]]. They can unite their magic.
* CameBackStrong: After dying during the Magi-net arc, Jack comes back to life with a better understanding of magic and promptly defeats Harold, a much older and powerful wizard than him. He only gets more powerful from there.
* CasanovaWannabe: Initially. Turns more into ChivalrousPervert as he becomes more mature.
* ChivalrousPervert: Pretty pervy, but deep down a good guy. His pervert tendencies actually become a plot point, as his magic has a tendency to warp the world around him to suit his lascivious proclivities, thus explaining why Sandra slowly becomes sexier over time and why Tomie and Mike [[spoiler:transformed into women]].
* GuiltComplex: Jack develops a serious guilt complex, as he feels responsible for every bad that happens in the comic. He is especially regretful about turning Sandra into a demon by accident and for not being able to save his fellow mages during the ''Magi-net'' arc. He even blames himself for what his rampant magic is doing on its own (namely turning every woman character in the comic into a Jessica Rabbit equivalent). Everything he does, he does it to atone for his percieved shortcomings.
* HealingFactor: A side-effect of being constantly fried and healed near the start of the comic.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Jack, post-time skip, nonchalantly uses a ''nail gun'' against vampires. For every nail he manages to hit someone with, he gains more control over them. One nail was enough to strip vampires from their power of flight, and two nails mean that you can't lie to him.
* MagicalHomelessPerson: [[http://www.zebragirl.thecomicseries.com/comics/604 After the]] Subfusc arc's TimeSkip Jack, by then the Archmage of the reawakening world, is posing as a homeless person in order to find and recruit new wizards.
* MagicMisfire: Jack has a tendency to experience magic surges every once in a while. Said magic surges are directly responsible for [[spoiler:Tomie and Mike]] turning into women.
* MyNameIsInigoMontoya: Jack delivers this line to Sandra when she went full-blown evil demon:
-->'''Jack''': I'm also Plaid Jack Clarity, the tartan sorcerer. Walker in infernal fires, he of the intersecting lines. This is my friend Tomie. And you're a bad, bad demon.
* MyGreatestFailure: Sandra's transformation weighing on him was the impetus for a lot of his character development. After it all goes horribly wrong, he considers her and anything she does as his greatest responsibility because of it.
** That said, he didn't reach ShooOutTheClowns levels until the (chronological) end of the Magi-Net arc.
* MySignificanceSenseIsTingling: Jack got an absurdly funny one: he can sense when "[[http://www.zebragirl.thecomicseries.com/comics/731 something sexy]]" is happening.
* SurvivorGuilt: One of the few, if not the only, survivor of Harold Duvase's soul trap. He became a lot more serious after that.
* TryToFitThatOnABusinessCard: A few adventures in, Jack awards himself [[http://www.zebragirl.thecomicseries.com/comics/299 some titles]], the werewolf alpha he's talking to isn't impressed.
* UnmovingPlaid: Jack's coat obeys to this trope, and his magic often manifests through his plaid.
* WordsCanBreakMyBones: Jack has such a grasp on magic post-time skip that he is able to take away the vampires' power of flight simply by saying "None of you can fly" (complete with a hand gesture), though it seems that he needs to successfully shoot them with nails beforehand to pull it off. The vampires are incredibly distraught by this.

[[folder:Crystal Clarity]]
[[quoteright:190:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f01abdb21bfb9f08dedd04cc93b78d3b.gif]]

Crystal Clarity is a bubbly, friendly girl, eager to please and slightly dim. Sandra's best friend since Kindergarten and Jack's sister since birth, she's probably the only reason that the two manage to get along as well as they do. Her telemarketing job is based from home, so she has a decent amount of free time with which to screw around with Jack.
Following Sandra's transformation, she became her best friend's main defense against depression. However, her life slowly but surely became more dangerous, and her cheerful personality was put to the test several times, as her world crumbled all around her.

She was hit the hardest by Sandra's betrayal. Roughly 5 years later, when she hears about Sandra's return, she is the only one to show happiness, while everyone else is getting ready to fight her former friend. She keeps the hope that Sandra will go back to her older self and come back to her, but even her optimism isn't infinite, and behind her smile she hides a profound distress.
----
* BreakTheCutie: The ''Disaccord'' and ''Heaven on Earth'' arc aren't kind to Crystal. She is seen sobbing during the ''Disaccord'' arc, and she was [[spoiler:almost killed while trying to find Sandra]] in ''Heaven on Earth''. She remains a bubbly girl, but she is no longer as innocent as before, and Sandra's FaceHeelTurn hit her very hard.
* CharacterDeath: After many close calls with death over the duration of the comic, in the epilogue [[spoiler:happening centuries later, she is heavily implied to have pass on as she remained a normal human and wasn't turned into an immortal being]].
* TheCutie: Crystal is just downright adorable, if a little out there sometimes.
* TheHeart: The most kind-hearted member of the team, and the one who helps them to keep together.
* JourneyToTheCenterOfTheMind: Pulls one on her own brother when he was meditating, to discover exactly what happened to him that made him change so drastically. She succeeds, and uncovers his trauma suffered during the ''Magi-net'' arc. She is understandably troubled. When Jack wakes up and realizes what she has done, he is furious and chases her off his room.
* MoralityChain: She is this to Sandra. Even during Sandra's FaceHeelTurn, Sandra avoided to hurt her directly, and she admitted that she misses her. Crystal also tried to talk her out her villainous phase several times, taking huge risks to do so. [[spoiler:During the Subfusc arc, Sandra realized that she always tried to protect Crystal, even acting very possessive towards her. Considering that Sandra has romantic feelings towards Crystal that she buried deep down into herself, that explains part of her behavior]].
* NotTheFallThatKillsYou: Happens to her twice during the ''Heaven on Earth'' arc:
** First time when Becky drops her. Thanksfully for her, Wally in his wolf form jumps in and serves as a cushion.
** Second time when Bloo decides to spare her from vampirism and prefers to drop her instead, seeing that action as a act of kindness. This time, [[CatchAFallingStar it is Sandra that catches her mid-air]].
* PerkyGoth: Everytime she decides to wear goth clothes, she ultimately falls under this category thanks to her bubbly attitude. In the ''Heaven on Earth'' arc, she also wears said spiky clothes to steel her resolve and to get ready to fight against vampires.
* PluckyGirl: Her life isn't easy, to say the least, and those close to her and herself tend to be in harm's way, but she is always optimistic, even in the most dire situations.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: Willingly [[AvertedTrope averted]] by Sandra, who saw that if she turned her into a demon, Crystal would [[spoiler:never grow as a woman and that she would have lived only for her]]. Although it pained her to let her go, Sandra ultimately decided that it was for the best.
* SuperSenses: Crystal remains the only "normal" human of the group, but she managed to gain the ability to "smell" souls, which she uses in order to find Sandra.
* TheTeamNormal: Initially, compared to the rest of her group, Crystal is a simple human being with no magical power whatsoever. She later gains some abilities, as she is able to cast some spells, allowing her to delve into her brother's mind to discover what happened to him during the Magi-net arc and to enchant clothes to a certain extent thanks to Tomie, but she remains the weakest member both physically and magically, and lacks any of the super traits the others may possess, aside from her ability to "smell" souls. Tomie mentions that she remains "innocent", implying that she is no real mage compared to Jack.
* UndyingLoyalty: Towards Sandra. Despite Sandra hurting her and her friends, she never stopped believing in her. Even when Sandra was actively attacking them, she tried to reason with her (to no avail). [[spoiler:When she heard about Sandra coming back from her banishment, her first reaction was to smile, while everyone else was wary or in [[OhCrap panic-mode]]. [[http://www.zebragirl.net/?date=2014-11-22 She even went as far as leaving the gang to try to find her alone]] (Crystal being basically a normal girl with no powers, this was a very dangerous move), still hoping that, maybe, she had changed. However, after 5 years and with everyone around her viewing Sandra as a menace, [[SubvertedTrope Crystal herself admits that she is at her limit]], and she is begging Sandra to give her a sign to believe in her. Instead of a direct sign from Sandra, she got attacked by vampires claiming to follow her orders. She managed to make it out alive, thanks to her friends, but this event was the last straw to her faith in Sandra. Later, when Sandra tries to talk to her, Crystal's reaction leaves no room for doubt: she doesn't trust Sandra anymore]].
-->'''Crystal''': [[spoiler:... You don't get to talk to me like that anymore]].

Tomie is a book of magic discovered in an attic, the poor handling of which may lead to unpredictable results. It was Tomie's magic which transformed Sandra by accident. Since then, Jack tried several times to turn her back into a human being, and discovered that the book is actually alive and possesses a mind of its own. It and Jack develop a friendly relationship as a result.

Several years later, Jack and Tomie are still inseparable. Their relationship evolved and turned into a romantic one. Tomie took a human form, and now looks like an indian woman.
----
* AlienBlood: [[spoiler:To the surprise of the vampire who bites her, Tomie has ''ink'' blood. He immediatly spits it]].
* BattleCouple: With Jack. They can unite their magic.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: Slaps Jack to calm him when he is panicking after awakening from a dream announcing [[spoiler:Sandra's return]].
* GoForTheEye: After getting grabbed by a flying vampire, she weaponizes her paper dress to slash both of his eyes while not even looking at him. It works, and he drops her inside the house. However, [[TraumaButton she ends up in the attic]].
* MagicMisfire: Her being turned into [[spoiler:a woman]] is actually a result of this. With magic flowing back into the world, Jack experienced a magic surge, Tomie was nearby, and the rest is history.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: While [[spoiler:she took an human form]], Tomie is, sadly, only there for Jack and doesn't seem to have any plans of her own. You will never see her apart from Jack, save for the very brief moment in which she is [[spoiler:locked into the attic again]]. Her being unable to speak to others doesn't help either.
* SilentPartner / TheUnintelligible: She can speak, but only Jack can hear her.
* SixthRanger: Tomie serves this purpose to the rest of the group. [[spoiler:Well, the original group anyway]].
* TraumaButton: The attic in which she was trapped for an unknown amount of time is one to her. [[spoiler:And she ends up getting trapped in the same place by accident much later on, leading her to look panicked. Thanksfully, it didn't last long this time]].

Sam Sprinkles is an anthropomorphic rabbit and the amiable star of Meet Sam Sprinkles, a wonderful show about happiness and moral lessons and all like that. It may sound like a Saturday morning cartoon... and maybe it is... but it's also apparently a real production with real actors in "another time, another space." And most of them don't seem to be as enthusiastic about their profession as Sam. It may be due to their living in a dystopia. But Sam's happy so long as the show's on the air.

That doesn't last. His show is off the air, and he lives in a desolate world ruled by an eccentric tyrant. The rabbit became quite jaded as a result. He has a very straightforward personality, has little patience for pretense, and is able to kick ass with ease when he needs too. He bonds quickly with the rest of the group, and now lives on Earth with them, looking for his place in the world.
----
* AlternateSelf: Somehow he's his universe's equivalent to Sandra, as indicated when one of them was near death and the other saw their life flashing before their eyes. While Rudy, the fox who played his nemesis on his show, was Jack's counterpart.
* BreakTheBadass: Sam, post-timeskip, didn't really recover from the torture he endured from Sandra.
* CowardlyLion: [[spoiler:When Sandra returns, Sam is very much afraid, so much that when their team went on a rescue mission to save Crystal, he actually ran away. He lampshades how it isn't like him to behave like that, but as it turns out he is not used to be scared, and he ponders if it is his fear of Sandra or his wish to see Mary again which drove him to his current state. Ultimately, he decides to face her directly.]]
* CurbStompBattle: After being attacked by a vampire, Sam counterattacks and quickly discovers that his gloves are imbued with holy powers (he got them from his father, and said gloves are said to be made in honor of one of their saints). Cue Sam turning the tables on the vampire, who gets so thoroughly beaten down that he has no choice but to beg for "Merhsssy" at the end of the encounter.
* ExplosiveBreeder: Rabbits on his homeworld typically have litters of six, [[spoiler: the same proves true for his transformed human girlfriend [[http://www.zebragirl.thecomicseries.com/comics/799 Mary]]. To say nothing of the rabbits who eventually become sapient as a side effect of the spell and refer to themselves as his "children".]]
* FaceYourFears: [[spoiler:After abandoning his friends when they needed him to save Crystal, Sam meets Betty who offers him to lead him to Sandra. Sam, being very upset with his uncharacteristic display of cowardice, decides to take her on her offer]].
* FeelingTheirAge: As he is dragged in the air by a flying vampire who wants him to ungrab him, Sam complains about the situation:
--> '''Sam''': "Well I can't let go now, can I?? I was in bed! You just had to barge in! I'm gettin' too old for this crap!"
* GoodOldFisticuffs: When Sam needs to fight, he relies on his fists to defend himself, and is quite able to deliver a beating on anyone stupid enough to attack him.
* HemoErotic: To everyone's surprise, his blood is an aphrodisiac for vampires. When he was attacked, all it took was a lick from his blood for the vampires to go crazy and wanting to fuck eachother. According to him, "it's a rabbit thing."
* HereWeGoAgain: Said word for word when he hears [[spoiler:Sandra's scream]] from across town, signaling she found out about his escape.
* MetaGuy: To epic levels.
-->'''Tawny:''' ''[immediately after Sam has met Sandra and Crystal]'' God... Next you're going to tell me you've met humans!\
'''Sam:''' No.\
'''Tawny:''' What?\
'''Sam:''' I'm not going to do that. The joke where you hypothesize some really unlikely scenario and get more and more specific, not knowing you're exactly describing actual events, while I stand here all awkward from your inexplicable outburst of irony.
* NervesOfSteel: Sam proved multiple times that he was perfectly able to remain unfazed and focused, even in the worst situations. He even provides the image trope:
** [[http://www.zebragirl.thecomicseries.com/comics/279 When he is attacked by giant werewolves]], he simply stares them down, a bit blasé about the whole thing. He then fakes an happy handshake with one of them before breaking one of his fingers.
** After escaping from [[spoiler:Sandra]], Jack welcomes him but is wary that she will attack them as soon as night comes. Crystal, however, points out that she might not wait until night time. As the realization settles in, they all hear her scream as she finds out Sam has escaped. [[http://www.zebragirl.thecomicseries.com/comics/500#content-start Our bunny boy's reaction]] is a matter-of-factly "HereWeGoAgain".
** Years later, [[spoiler:[[SubvertedTrope he explicitly admits to himself that he has lost this trait]], either due to torture at Sandra's hands, or by falling in love, and actually ran away instead of joining the others to find and save Crystal. He eventually gathered his courage and met Sandra alone]].
* RhymesOnADime: During [[http://www.zebragirl.thecomicseries.com/comics/481 his escape from Sandra]] his internal monologue is in rhyme.
-->''It's been years since I rhymed''
-->''Since the show went offline''
-->''I guess it's a nervous old habit of mine.''
* ShellShockedVeteran: [[spoiler:Sam is suffering from PTSD after what happened when he was a captive of Sandra]].
* WhiteGloves: Comes in handy when the werewolves tie him up.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: His reaction to the werewolves in [[http://zebragirl.net/?date=2004-03-26 this comic]].

Wally is as affable a werewolf as you're ever likely to find. He recently abandoned the werewolf lifestyle and is ostensibly making an effort to rejoin the human race. His general naivete stems from living for many years outside of civilization as the "omega wolf" of his pack. This makes him a good fit for Crystal, whose own naivete and maternal instincts enable them to connect on a very even level. Wally's instincts make him fiercely protective of her in turn. It seems as though he's trying to prove something to himself, and years amongst his new group of friends allowed him to become a rounded adult. However, he is often at odds with Sandra.
----
* AngerBornOfWorry: Wally is absolutely furious at Crystal for [[spoiler:leaving on her own to try to find Sandra]] during the ''Heaven on Earth'' arc. Considering she would have died without his timely intervention, he is more than justified.
* DumbMuscle: Wally never was the sharpest knife in the drawer, but [[spoiler:post time skip his increase in muscle-mass, his total inability to understand how his companions feel about Sandra and his willingness to "finish the job" (while being excited about it) catapulted him in this category]].
* FangsAreEvil: [[http://www.zebragirl.net/?date=2015-02-28 Wally has very visible fangs]] when he is talking in human form post time skip.
* HiddenDepths: [[spoiler:While Wally can be InnocentlyInsensitive, him hating Sandra is just an act. He knows full well that Crystal can't bring herself to hate Sandra, despite everything she did to them, and he doesn't want Crystal to hate her at all. He feigned to hate Sandra because he felt that Crystal needed him to, in order to support her, just like he did by being the punching bag of his previous pack.]]
* InnocentlyInsensitive: He is this in spades. He is overjoyed to have beaten Sandra with a little help from Jack, until this one points out to him that he still considers Sandra his friend, and that his reaction is inappropriate. Much later, Wally doesn't seem to realize that reminding some people of some ''really'' bad experiences they had in the past isn't a very good idea either...
* LivingCrashpad: Acts as one intentionaly in order to [[spoiler:save Crystal from a deadly fall]].
* MagicPants: Crystal made him some literal ones.
* MilkingTheGiantCow: Wally does this during his "inspirational" speech about [[spoiler:their fight against Sandra and how they are going to "finish the job" this time]].
* TheNoseKnows: Wally, as a werewolf, has an acute sense of smell, and remembers Sandra's.
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: As a werewolf, he can change at will, but only during the night. He can grow to any size while transformed, and discard all excessive mass when turning back, which quickly decomposes into a puddle of unidentifiable organic compound.
* ShirtlessScene: Has one after [[spoiler:rescuing Crystal]]. The author said that he nearly drew him completly naked.
* TookALevelInBadass: At first, Wally was seen as the omega of his pack, ie. the weakest of the bunch, and is easily disposed of in every fight. A few years later, [[http://www.zebragirl.thecomicseries.com/comics/644 he becomes genuinely threatening]].
* TookALevelInJerkass: Wally, post-timeskip, acts a lot more insensitive towards his friends (see InnocentlyInsensitive), and has no qualms about saying he is willing to [[spoiler:''destroy'' Sandra in front of her former friends. Said friends include his current girlfriend, Crystal, who he knows was Sandra's closest friend]].
* UnstoppableRage: Once Wally encounters Tommy again years later, who abused him in his pack, Wally completely ''snaps''. He immediately turns into a werewolf and attacks him savagely, roaring about getting revenge for all the crap he put him through.

----
* DemonOfHumanOrigin: After being cursed by an Archdemon, he syphons Sandra's essence and transforms into a demon similar to her in order to drag her to hell. This backfires horribly.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Despite his villainous crusade against Sandra, what he says about her corrupting the world around her unintentionally by just existing is true. Coupled with the return of magic, her demonic energy slowly but surely warps the very house she lives in, and attracts all kind of monsters to her hometown.
* MeaningfulRename: He renamed himself Gregore after his transformation into a demon.
* ShootTheMageFirst: Gregory is savvy enough to know that if he wants to go after Sandra, he needs to take out Jack first. Turns out he has the perfect weapon for that: a bullet goblin.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: Post-demonification, Gregory is always seen with an open shirt/mantle, revealing a very muscled and toned body. By the artist own words, ''"he's a slab of beefcake"''.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: He is determined to rid the world of demons, no matter who he has to kill or damn to Hell to do it. Including himself.

A pitiful little imp who was summoned by accident by Jack and Crystal at the beginning of the comic, and who is unceremoniously dispatched by being sucked into a magic portal looking like a toilet.

Several years later, he is back, and turns out to be much, ''much'' more dangerous and important than he first appeared to be.
----
* BadassBoast: Lord Incubus begins a pretty impressiving one right after Sandra destroyed his illusions... Too bad for him, Sandra recognized him as the little wimpy demon she met at the beginning of the comic, and doesn't take him seriously.
-->'''Lord Incubus''': Now I suppose you think you're terribly impressive. You... who have yet to see stars live and die, their ghosts lonely haunting corners of the space. You, who have not known the failed iterations of life which preceeded humanity on Earth and built their own crude hells. You, whose laughter never mingled with Satan's breath. Are you impressive?
* TheCorrupter: Lord Incubus jumps into this role with gusto for the Subfusc arc.
* DidntSeeThatComing: He is completely and utterly blindsided by Mabel's intervention when he was about to come through Sandra and corrupt her. He is absolutely livid when Mabel manages to help Sandra solve her identity crisis, and kidnaps her immediately to use her for his blackmail.
* TheDreaded: When even Viv is wary of him despite him being trapped into his own pocket dimension, you get the idea that he is quite dangerous.
* IHaveYouNowMyPretty: [[spoiler:To Mabel, who he uses as an hostage to convince Sandra to free him]].
* IKnowYourTrueName: [[spoiler:[[http://www.zebragirl.net/?date=2012-09-30 Incubus]] grabs Mabel and claims he has power over her because he knows her true name, while she doesn't.]]
* LukeIAmYourFather: [[spoiler:Lord Incubus reveals to Sandra that he's her father, not biologically, but that her demonic form is the result of his residual energy reacting explosively when Jack slammed the book closed. She is a piece of him, making her the closest thing he could have to a daughter, and he feels something [[EvenEvilHasLovedOnes akin to love for her]].]]
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: That little skull-headed demon Jack released from the book that wanted to take over the world, [[EarlyInstallmentWeirdness only to get flushed down a dimensional portal shaped like a toilet]]? Yeah, he's back. And he's genuinely frightening this time. [[spoiler:Turns out he's an archdemon, and Viv says outright that releasing him would be earth's downfall.]]
* SealedEvilInACan: Lord Incubus is sealed inside his own pocket dimension, and can't interact much with the rest of the world. He only manifests as a black square in Subfusc. However, that doesn't mean he's helpless: he can still talk to other people (like while he's trying to make Sandra free him), and God help you if he happens to know your real name: [[spoiler:Mabel was captured by him, since she doesn't know her own true name anymore, granting him power over her. Since he also knows Sandra's name, he is able to read her mind, making her the perfect target for his LotusEaterMachine trap]].
* VillainsNeverLie: As Incubus himself explains it to a wary Sandra, demons can not fabricate lies. Instead, they manipulate truth to ensnare their prey. In a show of good faith, he actually suggests ways to make sure he won't be able to screw Sandra over if they come up with an agreement.

[[folder:Doyenne]]
[[quoteright:167:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doyenne.PNG]]

An ancient werewolf, she turns people and adds them to her pack, viewing them as her children. However, her relationship with them is clearly abusive.
----
* BadassBoast: When Jack tries to intimidate her by mentionning Sandra, claiming she is her worst nightmare, Doyenne calmly answers this little gem:
--> '''Doyenne:''' "I ate my worst nightmare."
* DeathGlare: She gives a resentful one to Zandra when the latter bluntly tells her she never acted like a real mother. She, however, concedes that Zandra has a point, and she calms down instantly.
* DidWeJustHaveTeaWithCthulhu: "Invites" Crystal to drink tea with her to speak about her relationship with one of her "sons", Wally, and offers her to become a werewolf too.
* EvilMatriarch: To her pack, as the self-proclaimed Alpha. Her wolves don't dare to cross her, and she eventually kills those that don't meet her standards. When Zandra bluntly tells her that she is not a "real mother", Doyenne snaps back at her, calling her choice of words cruel, but ultimately calmly acknowledges that she is right.
* HeelRealization: Has come to regret her actions after the timeskip. She hints that she was in a depressive phase caused by her immortality, and that she feels much better now.
* ImmortalProcreationClause: She is unable to bear children. However, she is perfectly able to turn people into werewolves.
* MeaningfulName: Doyenne is, as her name implies, one of the oldest known werewolf alive.
* MoralityPet: Wally is one to her. She sees him as her favorite, despite him being, at the time, the pack's omega, and shows that she doesn't mind him leaving her pack, hinting that she is content that he is happy. After the timeskip, spending time with werewolves that share Wally's scent soothe her.
* MyBelovedSmother: Acts very controlling of her pack. Once Wally tells her he is dating Crystal, Doyenne arranges for a meeting to see who is the girl pinning after one of her boys.
* NightmareFetishist: Is genuinely intrigued by Sandra, the first demon ever she encounters, calling her "beautiful". [[spoiler:Centuries later, she is still infatuated with her]].
* OffingTheOffspring: She killed the members of her pack some time after her defeat against Sandra's gang, as Berserk himself attests.
* OlderAndWiser: After the timeskip, Doyenne is much calmer and saner, to the point that she is seen giving honest advices to Zandra.
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: She can morph into an humongous sized wolf.
* Really700YearsOld: Calling her ancient is no exageration. She implies that she is at least half a millenium old.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: She doesn't embarass herself with clothes post-timeskip. Partially justified, as when a werewolf transforms they are more than likely to tear up their clothes.
* SlasherSmile: Sports a [[http://www.zebragirl.thecomicseries.com/comics/299#content-start terrifying]] one when she begins to tranform in front of Jack.
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: Discussed in-universe between Zandra and her. Doyenne says that it takes at least half a millenium to really find a balance. When they met for the first time, Doyenne was not really in a good place. A few centuries later, she is feeling much better.

A "brother" of Wally, and member of the same pack. Eventually possesses a woman named Sally.
----
* AxCrazy: He lusts for violence and can't wait to kill Sam during the ''Moon Games'' arc. When he comes back, he is eager to kill Wally.
* TheBusCameBack: Seemingly driven off town at the end of the ''Moon Games'' arc, and lost his left paw during his fight with Sandra. It is later revealed that he was killed by his own "mother", Doyenne, but somehow his spirit lingered on Earth and came to reside inside his severed paw. Said paw was eventually found by a woman, leading to...
* DemonicPossession: Takes possession of a female human when she finds his severed paw.
* EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas: He is shown to be looking for his mother's approval, asking her if he is still "with her", despite losing an arm. She reassures him, telling him she will help him heal, and that he will be with her "as long as any member of [her] pack." [[spoiler:She kills him offscreen some time later]].
* HealingFactor: Can usually heal quickly, but Sandra's powers effectively neutralize this.
* HumanoidAbomination: By his own admission, he is a "frankenstein". He was killed by Doyenne, but his paw was eventually recovered by an innocent woman. Under unknown circumstances, his paw was transplanted on the woman's body, and his spirit, refusing to pass on, managed to possess her body. However, the possessed body was eventually turned into a vampire. As a result, he is now a ghost stuck inside a female vampire body, sporting a giant left werewolf paw and vampire powers. While Zandra's town has quite a few odd monsters, his peculiar condition makes him rather special. Once his paw is removed from the woman's body, the poor (still vampirized) victim regains control. Oddly enough, he is still able to speak telepathically through his paw.
* InSeriesNickname: During the ''Heaven on Earth'' arc, he is called "Southpaw" by the vampires, hinting at his special left arm.
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: As a werewolf, he can transform into a gigantic wolf. Unlike other werewolves, he manages to hijack a woman's body thanks to his severed paw. In his new body, he loses his power to completely transform, though his hand is shown to be able to gain a few sizes.
* SealedEvilInACan: His eventual fate. Once his paw is separated from Sally, Zandra instructs the chain maker to create binds for him, to make sure he never escapes or possesses anyone ever again.
* ASinisterClue: His left paw is severed at some point, and it is this very left paw that allowed him to possess the unlucky girl who managed to find it.

----
* BadassFingersnap: After Jack begins to ask questions about Tomie's suspisions of the Magi-net, Harold enacts his plan by snapping his fingers. He repeats this gesture when he attacks him.
* BondVillainStupidity: Instead of finishing Jack after he ascended, Harold, high on power, decides that he doesn't want to bother anymore, not even seeing him as a WorthyOpponent. He promptly regrets it.
* EvilGloating: Engages in a "cliché exposition", as he puts it, after Jack confronts him about what he did.
* {{Expy}}: Of Harry Potter. Glasses? Check. Broken lens reminiscent of Harry's lightning bolt scar? Check. Hogwarts-like outfit? Check. Except he's evil.
* FateWorseThanDeath: Jack curses him to always be where he least wants to go. He's warped into a horrible situation, and if he ever becomes used to it, is dropped into one that's even worse.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Harold's appearance is limited to a single, self-contained short arc, but he is single-handedly responsible for the most deaths in the comic. His murder of Jack ultimately helps him to ascend, and Jack's personality changes drastically after this incident, transforming him into a much more grounded and serious character.
* Really700YearsOld: Once he is done with his facade, he reveals to Jack that he is centuries old, and that he was just bidding his time for the return of magic.
* YouJustHadToSayIt: The basis of the curses placed on him. If he ever thinks he could be in a worse place than where he is, he will be sent to that worse place.
* YourSoulIsMine: Forcibly steals his fellow magicians' souls and magic power to gain more power.

* AffablyEvil: He looks like a gentleman, and is always polite in his conversations with Sandra. He even went as far as actually helping her to [[spoiler:break off Incubus' influence]].
* BrutalHonesty: Mister Chalk has shades of this in his dialogues with Sandra.
* GreaterScopeVillain: {{Discussed|Trope}} by Mister Chalk himself. And it's rather unnerving.
** [[spoiler:Subverted in the DistantFinale, Zandra tells him he's nothing, just empty space trying to grow an identity with mystery and wasted time. Then nonchalantly blows him away like chalk dust.]]
* HiddenAgendaVillain: Good luck guessing what his goal actually is. Sandra is persuaded that he is up to no good, but so far he barely impacted the plot. [[spoiler:He even helped Sandra during the Subfusc arc by sabotaging Incubus's attempt to break her spirit]].
* NotMeThisTime: [[spoiler:While [[http://www.zebragirl.net/index.php?date=2013-04-20 trapped]] in Incubus' LotusEaterMachine, Sandra encounters him, who reminds her that she's got bigger problems than him]].
-->'''Mr. Chalk:''' ''Focus,'' Sandy! I'm not the bad guy today!
* PsychoticSmirk: He is never seen without his characteristic "smile".
* VillainExitStageLeft: He is unceremoniously dismissed by Zandra at the end of the comic, in which he begs rather pityfully to get some sort of relevance. In his final thoughts, he acknowledges his failure to make Zandra his plaything, and vows to come back, wiser, more prepared, looking for an easier prey...

!! Sandra's Town

[[folder:Mike [[spoiler:(Michelle)]]]]
[[quoteright:121:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/michelle_2.PNG]]
[[caption-width-right:121:Michelle after her transformation]]

A normal guy whose Sandra initially has a crush on. [[spoiler:While she was in the Subfusc, Mike became a vampire. She became intimate with him some time after her return]]. He becomes [[spoiler:Michelle after his transformation, and eventually she identify herself as female]].
----
* BuxomBeautyStandard: As [[spoiler:Michelle]], she has bar-none the biggest breasts of all the cast, which is made even more apparent when you consider her new height. Every new person she sires develop this characteristic.
* ExtremeLibido: While she was more than happy to engage in sexual intercourse with Sandra as a male, once she turns into a female vampire through accidental magical intervention, her libido skyrockets (see the author's comment [[http://www.zebragirl.thecomicseries.com/comics/819#content-start here]]). As a matter of fact, she became more akin to a Succubus, and all the people she converts into vampires become like her, while also turning males candidates into females.
* GagLips: One of the few non-humorous version of this trope (aside potentially from her reveal). She gains very prominent bulbous lips after her transformation, something that some Succubi like her share to some extent, emphasizing her nature as a highly sexual vampire.
* GenderBender: Mike suffers from a magical backlash after trying to eat Jack, turning him into a much smaller, busty female version of himself. He is ''not'' happy about it. Jack tells him that he can't reverse the changes, as they were caused by a magical accident, the same kind of accident that happened to Sandra. Mike complains to Sandra, who jokingly rebuffs him, pointing out that he seems to react much strongly to being turn into a woman compared to being turned into a vampire. She does agree that it is a different thing, as this change wasn't intentional. Mike eventually accepts, after a few centuries, that she is now female, identify as such and renames herself [[spoiler:Michelle]].
* HeelFaceTurn: After being defeated, Mike is forgiven by Zandra, though she makes it clear that he is on probation. Mike eventually genuinely atones for his actions.
* HonoraryUncle: Zandra refers to her as [[spoiler:Clarity]]'s aunt, indicating that Michelle remained a close friend of Zandra after everything that happened, and that she is an important figure in [[spoiler:Clarity]]'s life. She is shown to scold Zandra for keeping [[spoiler:Clarity]] up late, clearly worried about her wellbeing.
* ILoveYouVampireSon: {{Inverted}}. She didn't foresee that the first man she sired (with his approval) would turn into a female vampire, nor that he would gain the same characteristics as her. While she has since sired many more and created her own race of vampires, called the Succubi, she remains rather distant with her progeny. Her reasons are speculated to be linked with a feeling of shame for creating a race that thrives on manipulation.
* MeaningfulRename: After getting hit by Jack's magic surge, [[spoiler:Mike eventually accepts that she is now female, and changes her name to Michelle]].
* TheStarscream: Along with Bloo, he usurps Sandra's leadership over the vampires during the ''Heaven on Earth'' arc.

[[folder:The Bloofer Lady (Bloo)]]
[[quoteright:269:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bloo2.PNG]]

A hippy vampire woman. She was bitten while she was on drugs, so her turning has left her perpetually high since the sixties.
----
* BreastExpansion: She has her breasts becoming slightly bigger during the ''Heaven on Earth'' arc. [[spoiler:Eventually revealed to be a side-effect of Jack's magic]].
* DullEyesOfUnhappiness: Most of the time her eyes are hidden behind her glasses, but when we do get glimpses of them we see that the iris of her eyes turns incredibly pale when she feels miserable or vulnerable, notably when answering Mike's question about her being happy, when she peaks into Crystal's soul and right before her final fight with Zandra.
* HorrorHippies: Was turned at Woodstock while high as a kite. Still a brainless anarchist.
* TheMadHatter: Perpetually high, but aware of it to the point that over the years she's able to assert some self-control.
* MercyKill: In a very twisted way, Bloo attemps to do this to Crystal. Once Bloo sees her soul full of love, Bloo, genuinely troubled, can't bring herself to turn her into a vampire, so she decides to let her fall to her death instead, calling it an "act of love".
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: Named after Lucy Westenra from the original ''{{Literature/Dracula}}'' novel, who was called "the bloofer lady"[[note]]possible etymology suggested [[https://bdolive.livejournal.com/1927.html here]][[/note]] by children who had been abducted and returned with bite marks. Called "Bloo" for short, her real name is never revealed.
* TheStarscream: Is responsible for the vampire revolution and for taking Sandra captive, planning on harvesting her blood whenever she likes and spreads chaos with her vampire servants.
* SuicideByCop: What her ultimate fight with Zandra boils down to. When Zandra asks her to discard all pretense, to focus on herself alone and if she wants to fight her, Bloo pleadingly answers "yes", with a profoundly sorrowful look in her eyes. Zandra recognizes what Bloo wants, and grants her her wish.
* WaxingLyrical: Constantly quotes from '60s songs and other pop culture from that era.

[[folder:Becky / Rebecca]]
[[quoteright:201:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/becky.PNG]]

A fat vampire woman. She respects Sandra, and is friend with Jerry and Daryl.
----
* BreastExpansion: She has her breasts becoming slightly bigger during the ''Heaven on Earth'' arc. [[spoiler:Eventually revealed to be a side-effect of Jack's magic]].
* FatBastard: Her initial introduction sets her as one. She grows out of it.
* HeelFaceTurn: After she discovers that Bloo duped her, she firmly decides to do whatever she can to earn Zandra's forgiveness and help her and her friends.
* MeaningfulRename: Wants to be called Rebecca after she realized she has been duped, as she wants to become a better person and not let her "evil tendencies" get the better of her.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: She breaks down in front of Zandra when she realizes just how wrong her actions were. She deeply regrets betraying her and almost killing Crystal.
* UnwittingPawn: Of Bloo, though it is unknown if she was entirely played or if she was at least partially on board with her plan.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sally]]
[[quoteright:159:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sally.PNG]]

Once an ordinary woman, Sally had the misfortune to find Berserk's severed left paw while doing a forest stroll. Though the "how" is unknown, she ended up having said paw transplanted on her, allowing Berserk to possess her, and got eventually turned into a vampire.
----
* AnArmAndALeg: After Berserk's paw is severed, Sally effectively loses her left arm, which doesn't seem to be growing back. Justified, as vampires remain in the same state as they were when they are turned, and she already had lost it at that point, with Berserk's transplant taking its place. Considering she is now her own person again, she is not complaining.
* DeadpanSnarker: Once she regains her free will, she doesn't miss the opportunity to mock Mike:
--> '''Sally''': "Only need one hand for the world's smallest violin, Mike."
* DemonicPossession: On the receiving hand of one, courtesy of Berserk.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: Immediately asks Wally if she hurt him once she regains control of her body.

[[folder:Black Betty]]
[[quoteright:177:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/betty_rab.PNG]]

A strange anthropomorphic hare, who is nothing like Sam. She first appeared in the Subfusc, before migrating to Sandra's town. She is a cunning and mischievous character, whose goal remains unknown.
----
* BreastExpansion: She has her breasts becoming slightly bigger during the ''Heaven on Earth'' arc. [[spoiler:Eventually revealed to be a side-effect of Jack's magic]].
* CheshireCatGrin: She is almost always seen sporting one, making her rather unnerving.
* ClosetKey: For Sandra. When Black Betty offered her services to Sandra, including dancing for her pleasure, Sandra was going to reject it, but decided to indulge. The two were shown together in the DistantFinale.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Her grasp on reality isn't the same as the others, and while she is quite eloquent it is undisputable that she lives in her own world and has a few screws loose.
* HairRaisingHare: She, along with Pooka Zin, are members of an entire ''species'' of these, called the Vorpal Pook.
* ScaryTeeth: She has some very sharped ones, making the contrast between it and her dandy costume/attitude all the more disturbing.
* TalkativeLoon: She jumps from topic to topic very quickly, and loves to ramble about weird things, mostly about rabbits.
-->'''Black Betty''': Yes, everything's coming up rabbits! Rabbits wearing clothes, rabbits on their toes, rabbit looking to worship a rabbit messiah. Maybe there'll be a rabbit revolution!
* WildCard: She is fascinated by the conflict taking place during the ''Heaven on Earth'' arc, but can't really make up her mind on which side she should help. So much that she kidnaps a random human and ask her for advice!

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Walter]]

Walter is a ghoul who decided to stay in Sandra's town and resides in the cemetery, where he has plenty of cadavers to eat. Against all odds, he is a very friendly guy and a wonderful conversationalist.
----
* FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire: Probably the nicest monster of the town, and had his shares of friendly conversations with Sandra. She ends up liking him quite a bit.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Epilogue character]]

!!Clarity
[[quoteright:182:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clarity.PNG]]

Clarity is Zandra's adopted daughter. Not much is known about her, except that Zandra took her in while she was still a baby. She loves her mom a lot and she wishes to become a Nefastis, like her. She shares her first name with Jack and Crystal's last name.
----
* BeingHumanSucks: Very much want to become like her mother, and is a bit insistent about it to boot. Compared to everyone else, she feels like "nothing", which is understandable as she is surrounded by supernatural beings with all kind of powers. Zandra is considering granting her her "curse", but she makes it clear that she is way too young and that she needs to wait.
* CheerfulChild: She is almost always seen smiling. Not surprising, considering how Zandra and everyone else is doting on her.
* HappilyAdopted: There is no doubt that she loves her mother, Zandra, dearly, and the feeling is mutual.

[[folder:Viv]]

[[quoteright:100:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/13becdcbfc3fde4ca3c713ab35153231.png]]

A woman who Sandra encounters in the Subfusc. She tries to make Sandra face her actions and remember what it is to be human. However, it seems there is more to her than meets the eye...
----
* ActionMom: Can kick asses quite easily and doesn't fear demons, having survived multiple encounters with them. [[spoiler:And as Eve, she is the mother of humanity.]]
* TheAgeless: [[spoiler:Viv is pretty much immortal. However, she can bleed, hinting that she can be killed]].
* BigBeautifulWoman: Viv is rather heavy-set. While Sandra initially calls her fat derisively, there is no doubt that Viv is beautiful, inside and out.
* BigGood: Viv is the counterpart of Lord Incubus during the Subfusc arc. Mabel draws a direct distinction between the two of them, refering as Viv as being "white" and Lord Incubus as being "black".
* EccentricMentor: Snarky, deadpan, relaxed, always trying to laugh and yet very serious when the situation calls for it, she is incredibly knowledgeable and wise. She tries her best to get through Sandra and teach her to be human again, despite the latter's reluctance.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Her true identity is hinted a lot of times during the Subfusc arc.
* HeroWithBadPublicity: Viv has fought her fair share of monsters and demons thoughout the centuries. Yet is universally despised because [[spoiler:she is Eve, the first woman. However she explained that she resisted the temptation of the fruit, but rejected Eden as she wanted people to be able to stand on their own two feet]].
* MadeOfIron: After colliding with a stone pillar at high speed, she only got a nose bleed, and wasn't even a little dizzy.
* Really700YearsOld: Viv claims to be human, but Sandra, despite being deprived of her demonic powers at the time, is still able to tell that something is amiss. Later, Viv says that she is human, just "old" (despite looking rather young). Even later, Viv hints that she is millennia-old. [[spoiler:When you realize that she is, in fact, [[Literature/TheBible Eve]], and thus one of the very first human beings, calling herself "old" is quite the euphemism.]]
* TheReveal: [[spoiler:She is the biblical Eve. The revelation takes Sandra by surprise, troubling her quite a lot. Amusingly, Viv actually used this trope to bait Lord Incubus]].
* {{Seers}}: She is able to see the future, to a degree, but she remains enigmatic about what she actually saw.
* SmokingIsCool: Viv casually lights a cigarette when she is reminiscing her past.
* StunnedSilence: The only time we got to see Viv surprised by anything is when [[spoiler:she urged Sandra to go help Mabel, except Sandra didn't realize yet that she got her powers back. The failed spot check and the irony of the situation left her speechless, with her mouth wide open]].
* ThisIsGonnaSuck: Viv has a little flying accident in [[http://www.zebragirl.thecomicseries.com/comics/573 this strip]], and reacts appropriately.
* TitleDrop: Outright calls Sandra "Zebra Girl" at one point, while explaining who she really is.
* TricksterMentor: Viv is very fond of this kind of approach, often giving cryptic informations or advices to Sandra.
* YouCanSeeMe: Viv is actually intrigued when Sandra, upon meeting her, is immediately able to tell that Viv is not exactly what she appears to be. Despite being deprived of her demonic powers, Sandra can tell her soul and smell are weird. [[spoiler:Considering Viv's origins and potential immortality, Sandra wasn't exactly off the mark.]]

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Mabel]]
[[quoteright:115:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mabel.PNG]]
----
* AliceAllusion: To the point that she may very well ''be'' Alice. Let's see: white rabbits, falling down holes, misremembering poetry, winning her own thimble in a race, calling a demon the Jabberwock... even her name alludes to a scene where Alice becomes unsure of her identity and wonders if she's a girl she knows instead. A final hint cementing this theory is her reacting with realisation to a character saying "a list", which sounds a little similar to "Alice", but she is cut before she can say anything.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Mabel is not entirely there. She often goes into weird tangents, and what she says is quite often nonsensical (if full of references to Literature/AliceInWonderland). And yet...
* TheCloudcuckoolanderWasRight: She is the only one who was able to connect with Sandra and help her to reconcile with both her human and demon side, allowing her to TakeAThirdOption and to overcome her inner turmoil.
