[[folder: The Companions]]

!!The Companions
Five immortal heroes who have joined forces to topple Morganem's tyrannical empire.

* EasyAmnesia: They fall victim to Morganem's Reality Disruptor at the end of the Prologue, [[NotQuiteDead narrowly surviving]] but losing their powers and memories. In-game, the seemingly high-level party is reduced to a lone Level 1 Soul Reaver, and he and the others gradually regain their memories and powers as they complete the campaign and level up again.
* FiveManBand: They make a straight example.
** TheHero: Soul Reaver is the first Companion you control, though he's an AntiHero. While never explicitly acknowledged as leader, he sometimes speaks for the group.
** TheLancer: Fei Serumen is first seen [[BrainwashedAndCrazy turned against innocent townspeople]], but Soul [[IKnowYouAreInThereSomewhereFight frees him]] instead of [[ShootTheDog putting him down]] because Soul knows the circumstances are more the fault of their enemies than Fei's.
** TheSmartGuy: Cameron Aileron has PsychicPowers and advanced technology, and Soul assists him in creating an obstacle to block some enemies in order to buy the team time to rest.
** TheBigGuy: Kitharsis has high health, Strength, and armor, but needs help from his allies in a situation where these aren't enough to pull him through.
** TheHeart: Despite bitter enmity with Morganem's forces, Sera Poi can still empathize with them after their defeats more than her teammates do.
* FriendlyFireproof: All of their area and multitarget spells ignore allies '''except for''' Soul Reaver's ''[[SphereOfDestruction Sphere of Annihilation]]'' and Cameron Aileron's ''[[ColonyDrop Cataclysm]]'' Ultimates.
%%* HeroUnit
* OneManArmy: From the third mission, they start to be this, being able to finish off waves of Dharuk.
* RestingRecovery: Each Companion has a Tent that lets the Hero sleep (complete with CatchingSomeZs) in order to gradually regain 600 HP and 300 MP over 30 seconds. They wake up and stop healing if attacked.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Five Companions, four male and only one female.
* TrueCompanions: They appear so in the campaign, but WordOfGod says they're not personal friends to each other; they're just cooperating on this mission and not ([[TokenEvilTeammate all]]) ([[AntiHero completely]]) evil, so they get along well and professionally.

!!Soul Reaver, the Immortal Dark Knight
A human soldier who gained immortality and the power of his soul in a battle against a Daemon Lord. Soul Reaver believes in honor and justice, but will not hesitate to use violence and questionable methods when needed to uphold these values.

* AntiHero: He might be dedicated to honor and justice, but his interpretation of these seems to give him a lot of leeway to do as he sees fit. This includes willingly using an EvilWeapon, summoning and controlling Daemons, absorbing the souls of slain foes to augment his powers, and killing anyone he deems evil enough. Also, near the end of Chapter V, [[spoiler:Soul Reaver alludes to having [[OffingTheOffspring killed his own son]] to uphold his dedication to his beliefs]].
* TheAntiNihilist: Understands mortal life is incredibly fleeting, but denies that this makes it any less worthwhile.
* BadassBoast: Delivers an epic one before the Companions fight the FinalBoss.
--> '''(In Chapter VIII):''' We have defeated ancient evils before. We have stood toe-to-toe with would-be Gods and smashed them from their bloodied thrones. So come at us with all your fury... we shall gladly meet it with our own!
* BigRedDevil: He can summon Fire Daemons, the officers and champions of the Inferno army.
* TheBlank: He can summon Nightmares, creatures that appear vaguely human but are hairless, smooth, pitch black and have completely featureless faces.
* CoolSword: Soul Reaver wields Blooddrinker, a Vortex Blade in which Blooddrinker, the mightiest and most malevolent of all Daemon Princes, has been sealed. Gameplay-wise, he and Fei (and their [[SummonMagic summoned allies]]) are the only playable characters whose [[TacticalRockPaperScissors attacks inflict Chaos-type damage; all others have different attack types that inflict less damage against certain armor types]].
* CriticalHit: His ''Master of Battle'' passive ability sometimes lets him multiply his attack damage and parry attacks.
* DemonicPossession: Using [[EvilWeapon Blooddrinker]] causes him to be possessed by [[SealedEvilInACan the sealed soul of its namesake Daemon Lord Blooddrinker]], increasing the damage he inflicts and sustains and causing his attacks to drain enemies' health to restore his own. The chance of [[WillingChanneler successfully controlling himself during possession]] equals his remaining health percentage minus five percent; [[RandomNumberGod if the internal check fails]], Soul Reaver automatically attacks both allies and enemies.
%% * ElementalPowers:
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: He used to be an ordinary mercenary before gaining immortality and the power of his soul during an ill-fated battle against a Shadowlord.
* FlamingSword: All weapons wielded by his summoned Fire Daemons become wreathed in flames.
* ForGreatJustice:
--> '''Soul Reaver:''' [M]y duty is to no immortal[....] I serve honour and justice: concepts that truly are undying.
* JackOfAllStats: His ''Master of Battle'' passive ability allows Soul Reaver a chance to inflict critical hits and dodge attacks, but is less likely to dodge than Fei Serumen's ''Ultimate Grace'' and less powerful (but more likely to land critical hits) than Sera Poi's ''Deadly Marksman''.
* MagicKnight: Over the millenia he has become a mighty warrior and sorcerer commanding all orders of magic.
* MagicMissileStorm: His ''Darkbolt Barrage'' spell bombards an area with Darkbolts, damaging and stunning enemies.
* MeaningfulName: The manual says Soul Reaver can increase his power by absorbing the souls of his enemies.
* MookCommander: His summoned Nightmare generates unnatural fear that constantly damages nearby enemies.
* RedBaron: His real name was Rhavin Ironheart, though now he's only known by the title Soul Reaver.
* ShockAndAwe: ''Lightning Storm'', which creates a ball of scintillating electricity that strikes nearby enemies with lightning bolts.
* SoulPower: He gained this ability in his backstory. Since souls are eternal, this gives Soul Reaver a theoretically infinite source of power, but Soul has yet to reach his full potential.
* SphereOfPower: His ''Lightning Storm'' spell creates a hovering ball of electricity at a target point, while his ''[[SphereOfDestruction Sphere of Annihilation]]'' Ultimate creates a small energy sphere that moves slowly from his location to its target area and explodes violently.
* StatusEffects: Between his abilities, items, and ''Summon Daemons'' Ultimate, he has many ways to do this.
** His ''Darkbolt Barrage'' spell damages and stuns enemies within an area of effect, but the spell is interrupted and ruined if Soul does anything before the stun takes effect. Likewise, his ''Sphere of Annihilation'' Ultimate inflicts heavier damage and longer-lasting stun, but has its own delay and is '''not''' FriendlyFireproof.
** His Blooddrinker's effects include weakening attack targets for a few seconds, and his Black Steel Gauntlets slow all nearby enemies for several seconds (during which Soul Reaver can't move) before inflicting moderate damage and stun. [[ArtificialBrilliance The bosses in Chapter II (and only those) are smart enough to move away and avoid the effects of the latter]].
** Of the Daemons called by his ''Summon Daemons'' Ultimate, Doomhounds have a passive ''Doomhound Venom'' ability that inflicts damage over time and slow with each attack; Damned Ones have a ''[[HowlOfSorrow Wail of Anguish]]'' ability that reduces nearby enemies' attack damage; Fire Daemons have a ''[[FlamingSword Burning Weaponry]]'' passive ability and a ''[[BreathWeapon Breathe Fire]]'' spell that set enemies on fire for damage over time; and Shadowlords have a ''Weaken'' spell that reduces an enemy's attack damage and movement speed and a ''{{Fireball|s}}'' that inflicts damage and stun to enemies in an area of effect.
* StatusBuff: His ''Iron Will'' ability boosts his movement and attack speeds.
* StatusBuffDispel: His Anti-Magic Amulet can be used to unravel spells and weaken summoned creatures.
* SummonMagic: His ''Summon Daemons'' Ultimate opens a Warp Gate to Inferno to call Daemons to aid him.
%% * TallDarkAndHandsome
* TimeAbyss: He has lived so long that everything that tied him to his former mortal life is now dust.
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: [[AllThereInTheManual In the background]] - while too well-meaning and not fatalistic enough be DrivenToSuicide, Soul Reaver by no means really enjoys having become an immortal. Although he tries to avoid it, having once been mortal, he still (in spite of himself) forms emotional attachments to the comparatively fleeting things around him, inevitably leading to an eternity of loss. But it doesn't stop him from continuing on trying to help.
* YourSoulIsMine: WordOfGod says that Soul Reaver can absorb the souls of his defeated enemies as a source of power, and that the effect of this on the victim is like endless, dreamless sleep. [[spoiler: He does this to Maelstrom after killing him, and says that it would be a mercy for him compared to letting his soul reach the afterlife.]]

!!Fei Serumen, the Ancient Vampire Lord
The last of the Ancient Vampire Lords after killing and absorbing the others, Fei aids the companions with his own considerable vampiric powers and affinity with the Abyss.

* BloodFromEveryOrifice: When Fei uses his ''Blood Corruption'' Ultimate, any enemy bearing a Blood Mark from the Yugitti will have their blood boil and clot within their bodies, beginning to bleed from every pore as their life drains away.
* BloodLust: Justified, since he's an [[OurVampiresAreDifferent Ancient Vampire Lord]].
--> '''(After killing several Dharuk in the Prologue):''' [[EstablishingCharacterMoment A crying shame, letting so much good blood go to waste.]]
* CombatClairvoyance: The Companions are better able to sense the movements of enemies hit by Fei's Yugitti before they even make them.
* DamageIncreasingDebuff: Enemies with a Blood Mark from Fei's Yugitti become more vulnerable to attacks.
* DeadpanSnarker: Of the entire cast, he makes sarcastic jokes most often.
* DefeatMeansPlayable: He regains his self-control and joins Soul Reaver after his third defeat.
* DualWielding: Two swords, the Kurusunami and the Yugitti.
* DuelBoss: In Chapter II Soul Reaver fights Fei alone, without any other Companions or allies.
* FragileSpeedster: Has the lowest HP, but the fastest movement speed and an ''Ultimate Grace'' passive evasion ability.
* FriendlyNeighborhoodVampire: Downplayed - he can be sarcastic at times, with a dark sense of humor, and the manual says he sometimes doesn't value others' lives as much as the other Companions wish he would.
* LastOfHisKind: He is the last Ancient Vampire Lord after killing and absorbing the others, and is equally comfortable in solitude as beside the Companions.
* LifeDrain: While his ''Blood Frenzy'' ability is in effect.
* LockedOutOfTheFight: His Soul Amulet allows him to temporarily retreat into it, discorporating his physical body. If he remains inside for the full duration of the ability without being interrupted, he regains some health.
* MookCommander: His summoned Abyssal Mass has an ''Abyssal Drain'' aura that constantly damages nearby enemies.
* OurVampiresAreDifferent: Other than displaying the traditional vampiric immortality and thirst for blood, he seems to have few of the problems that other vampires do. Sunlight, for example, doesn't bother him at all.
* PlagueMaster: His ''Blood Plague'' spell slows one target and inflicts damage over time.
%%* PointyEars
%%* ThePowerOfBlood
* PreAssKickingOneLiner: He has a few good ones here and there.
--> '''(In Chapter VIII):''' I'm sick of listening to Uthurak's crap. How about we find out if Gods can bleed?!
* RecurringBoss: Initially when encountered by Soul Reaver after his escape from Greyholm Prison, Fei has been [[BrainwashedAndCrazy brainwashed by Kaine Shariven]] and must be fought three times before regaining his sanity.
* SpinAttack: The special abilities of both his swords: Kurusunami deals damage, while Yugitti inflicts a Blood Mark.
* StatusBuffDispel: Since it's based on the ''[[VideoGame/{{WarCraft}} WarCraft III]]'' "Mirror Image" spell, Fei's ''Celerity'' Ultimate has the side effect of dispelling all buffs and debuffs on him when activated, including his own ''Blood Frenzy''.
* SummonMagic: His ''Abyssal Summon'' spell creates a BlobMonster [[EnergyBeing made of Abyssal energy]] to do his bidding.
* SuperSpeed: When Fei uses his ''[[DoppelgangerAttack Celerity]]'' Ultimate, he is so fast that he appears to be at five places at once.
* TattooedCrook: "Tattooed" varies DependingOnTheArtist. Fei's character model is an altered Demon Hunter with the blindfold and handheld blades removed, so in-game he has "tribal"-looking black tattoos all over his arms and torso; [[http://www.warpstormstudios.com/tothebitterend/gallery.htm artwork custom-made for the campaign]] depicts Fei with no tattoos ([[http://www.warpstormstudios.com/tothebitterend/Pictures/To%20the%20Bitter%20End%20by%20Stephen%20Cousins.png the chapter select screen image]]) or with a few FacialMarkings and a single large, vaguely serpentine Abyssal Mass tattoo on his back ([[http://www.warpstormstudios.com/tothebitterend/Pictures/Fei%20Serumen%20by%20Stephen%20Cousins.jpg a solo pic of Fei]]). Regarding the "Crook" part of the trope, as stated above, he's not exactly the most benevolent Anti-Hero even before or after being BrainwashedAndCrazy.
* {{Understatement}}: His reaction to a blizzard-covered ice mountain? "[[DeadpanSnarker Heh. I think I should have brought a coat.]]"
%%* WalkingShirtlessScene

!!Cameron Aileron, the Elemental
An Elemental, descended from a branching evolutionary line of space-faring humans, Cameron wields control over fire in addition to considerable psychic power. After serving for a time in an army of {{Space Marine}}s, he has joined the Companions for the cause of good.

* ColonyDrop: His ''Cataclysm'' Ultimate calls down [[FlamingMeteor a giant, fiery comet]] from space.
* DepletedPhlebotinumShells: He boosts his rifle with his fire powers for his ''Explosive Shells'' ability.
* {{Fireballs}}: His ''Mass Fireballs'' spell damages and stuns multiple enemies at once.
* FlamingMeteor: He calls these with his ''Meteor Shower'' spell and ''Cataclysm'' Ultimate.
* FireBreathingWeapon: His Underslung Heavy Flamer, used for two special abilities and one item ability.
* MindOverMatter: His ''[[FlamingMeteor Meteor]] [[DeathFromAbove Shower]]'' channeled spell pulls multiple meteorites from space. The amount increases as the spell levels up, but so does the area in which they drop (and '''not''' the area of each impact), reducing precision.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: A [[ProHumanTranshuman human]]-[[EvolutionaryLevels evolved]], [[HumansArePsychicInTheFuture psychic]]-[[PsychicPowers powered]], [[PlayingWithFire fire]]-[[ElementalEmbodiment elemental]] ex[=-=]SpaceMarine.
* NoSell: Averted in Chapter III. Fei Serumen asks why the fire elemental Cameron isn't immune to the Juggenaut's fiery attacks, and Cameron [[HandWave explains]] that its flames are [[AWizardDidIt conjured with]] [[EntropyAndChaosMagic corrupt, chaotic magic]].
* PlayingWithFire: He's a fire elemental and uses primarily fire-based attacks.
* PoweredArmor: Obtained during his time as a SpaceMarine.
* PsychicPowers: His ''Psychic Blast'' spell damages, slows, and [[DamageIncreasingDebuff weakens one enemy]], and his ''Psychic Onslaught'' Ultimate creates a manifestation of psychic power that constantly damages, attacks, and slows nearby enemies.
* SchizoTech: His companions wield swords, bows and axes. Cameron has a rifle, flamethrower, and PoweredArmor.
* SpaceMarine: According to the manual, he's a former one, but kept the PoweredArmor and weapons.
* SphereOfPower: His Shielding Device creates a temporary energy shield around himself, and his ''Psychic Onslaught'' Ultimate creates a sphere of brilliant energy that auto-attacks and slows nearby enemies.
* {{Teleportation}}: He has a Teleportation Device which allows him to teleport short distances.

!!Kitharsis, the Tirthandara
A member of the shapeshifting reptilian Jataka race, Kitharsis hails from the Tirthandara lineage of his people's warrior-shamans, and wields power over desert sands that he amplifies with the ritual tattoos covering his body.

* AnimeHair: The only hair on his body is his bright yellow mohawk, "which he appears to be quite proud of."
* BlackMagic: He has various "[[DarkIsNotEvil Dark]]" and "[[CastingAShadow Shadow]]" abilities that are amplified by his [[PowerTattoo ritual tattoos]].
* BlowYouAway: His ''Sandstorm'' Ultimate creates [[DoNotTouchTheFunnelCloud a whirlwind that spawns tornadoes near enemies]].
* ChainLightning: His Tirthandara Mage Skeletons' ''Shadow Lightning'' can bounce between up to 4 targets.
* DemBones: His ''Create Skeletal Minions'' spell uses sand to forge partially-sentient Tirthandara Warrior Skeletons and Tirthandara Mage Skeletons, the latter of which have their own spells.
* DishingOutDirt: Many of his abilities are powered by desert sands. His Bag of Sand item lets him throw sand at an enemy like a sandblaster to damage it and splash-damage surrounding enemies.
* DualWielding: While he prefers unarmed combat or a war hammer, he wields a pair of "Rage Axes" in this campaign.
* ElementalBaggage: He carries gourds and pouches of desert sand to fuel some of his powers.
* ManaShield: His Tirthandara Mage Skeletons can use ''Shielding'' to take MP damage instead of HP damage.
* MaskOfPower: His Shamanic Mask lets him rest to regain mana (but not HP) more efficiently than the Tent.
* MagicKnight: As a Tirthandara warrior-shaman, he is a fearsome fighter with control over the desert sands.
* MightyGlacier: He is the slowest of the five Companions, but his ''Tirthandaran Constitution'' passive ability increases his Strength and Armor. Since Strength determines health, Kitharsis has the highest HP of the Companions.
* PowerTattoo: All over his body, used for his ''Dark Lash'', ''Dark Tendrils'', and ''Unbridled Rage'' abilities.
* ProjectileSpell: His Tirthandara Mage Skeletons can increase their own attack damage with ''Energy Bolts''. Kitharsis' own ''Dark Lash'' spell also counts, damaging and stunning one enemy for one second.
* StatusBuff: His Tirthandara Mage Skeletons can cast ''Minor Haste'' to boost one target's move and attack speeds.
* SummonMagic: He can ''Create Skeletal Minions'' ([[DemBones Tirthandara Warrior/Mage Skeletons]]) out of sand.
* UnexpectedlyRealisticGameplay: As a reptilian, Kitharsis is cold-blooded, which greatly weakens him in the blizzard-covered mountains of Chapter IV. The first part of the chapter requires you to help him reach a campsite and start a fire for him while his "Freezing Blood" severely debuffs him, slowing his move speed and HP recovery and completely draining his mana.
* UnstoppableRage: His ''Unbridled Rage'' Ultimate radiates multiple high-powered waves of energy through his tattoos.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: With bonus LoinCloth. The manual mentions [[BadassBandolier crossbelts with gourds and bags of sand]] that [[InformedEquipment don't appear in-game]].

!!Sera Poi, the Nephilim
A Nephilim daughter of a Fallen Angel and an elf, Sera aids the Companions with her skill in archery and her mastery of healing and nature magic.

%%* ActionGirl
* BeautyEqualsGoodness: She's the daughter of a Fallen Angel, but her beauty and divine heritage are interpreted by Prince Sorin and King Garamond Eridem as evidence of innate righteousness.
* CombatMedic: She's the only Companion of the five with the ability to heal allies.
* CriticalHit: Her ''Deadly Marksman'' passive ability gives Sera a chance to multiply her attack damage.
* DeathFromAbove: The Divinity Arrows are fired into to the sky before landing as a blazing comet of light.
* DesignatedBullet: [[spoiler:She saved a special arrow to use against Kathryn Urdanna just before she becomes playable]]. Its animation model doesn't match her Divinity Arrows, attacks, or spells.
* DesignatedGirlFight: Against Kathryn Urdanna in Chapter VII. They're the only two named women in the game.
* FriendlyFireproof: The ''Piercing Shot'' and ''Arrow Storm'' can both hit multiple enemies without hitting any allies.
%%* GlassCannon
* GreenThumb: Her ''Nature's Wrath'' Ultimate causes thorny vines to burst from the ground and entangle enemies.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold
* HealingHands: Her ''Healing Touch'' can heal herself or her allies.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: Her DesignatedBullet hits her target from half the map away and over a wall of Darkfire.
* InvisibilityCloak: Has one that makes her invisible for a short time; if she attacks while invisible, [[InvisibilityFlicker the invisibility ends immediately]], but [[BackStab her attack inflicts increased damage]].
%%* LightIsGood
* {{Multishot}}: She can activate the enchantment inside her Blackoak Bow to fire multiple arrows with each attack.
* {{Nephilim}}: She is the daughter of an elf maiden and the fallen angel Kawanua Poi.
* NoArcInArchery: Her ''Piercing Shot'' flies in a straight line, and her Divinity Arrows fly [[DeathFromAbove up, then down]]; averted for all other arrows, including the DesignatedBullet.
* RainOfArrows: Her ''Arrow Storm'' rains arrows to damage and momentarily stun enemies in a circular area of effect.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: The only female Companion in the squad.
* WorfHadTheFlu: Spends the first half of Chapter V recovering from [[DarkActionGirl Kathryn Urdanna's]] poison attack.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Morganem and the Council of Six]]

!!Morganem, the Enchanter
An Aethen sorcerer and Immortal who believes that Immortals can rule mortals better than mortals can rule themselves, Morganem has become an emperor and taken control of a large portion of the Plane of Ithia.

* AntiVillain: See WellIntentionedExtremist. [[spoiler:He acknowledges after his defeat that he became a tyrant despite his goals, and asks the Companions for forgiveness before he dies]].
* TheArchmage: His magical talent is unsurpassed in Ithia; during his boss battle in Chapter VIII, he uses a wide variety of spells with multiple different effects.
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: He defeated the Warmaster of the strongest Dharuk tribe to gain his loyalty, and unified the Dharuk into his empire's BadassArmy to enforce his will.
* BigBad: The five Companions have joined forces specifically to topple Morganem's tyrannical empire.
* BossArenaRecovery: Every 1 percent of his health depleted spawns Mana Splinter items that instantly restore the Companion who picks them up to full HP and MP and give nearby Companions a Mana Surge that rapidly recovers their HP and MP. Don't waste them early in the fight, or you'll regret it later when you really need them.
* BossOnlyLevel: Chapter VIII is entirely dedicated to fighting him as the FinalBoss.
* CombatTentacles: With the Void Children's power, he summons Void Arteries from the ground around him.
* TheComputerIsACheatingBastard: Morganem has [[http://www.warpstormstudios.com/tothebitterend/hints.htm a wider variety of spells and abilities]] than any single unit (HeroUnit or otherwise) should be able to cast.
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler:By calling upon the help of the Void Children, Morganem becomes the host of Uthurak]].
* DyingAsYourself: [[spoiler:When struck down, he is freed from Uthurak's DemonicPossession. He thanks the Companions for preventing Uthurak from destroying Ithia and asks forgiveness for his tyranny before dying]].
* EnemySummoner: Limitless Void Children via purple Warp Gates (which you can destroy before the Void Child unit emerges), ''[[ExplosiveBreeder Dark Memories]]'' like the Void Child Despair summon, and ''Misery'' ghosts that [[ActionBomb rush you and self-destruct]].
* FaceRevealingTurn: [[spoiler:He has his back turned to the Companions when they enter his BossRoom in Chapter VIII, and when he turns, he looks [[MarkOfTheBeast drastically changed]] from his appearance in the Prologue]].
* FantasticRecruitmentDrive: He gathered other Immortals to join him in ruling Ithia. Maelstrom was the first, and in turn he gathered most of the others.
* FinalBoss: Fought in Chapter VIII, he's the final challenge faced by the Companions.
* FlunkyBoss: Multitudes of Void Children units, with a Void Child Hatred, Void Child Despair, and a Hatred/Despair duo respectively at 75 percent, 50 percent, and 25 percent remaining health.
%%* HeroUnit
* HeWhoFightsMonsters: He wanted to stop the suffering and infighting resulting from [[InYourNatureToDestroyYourselves mortal selfishness and government oppression]], but became a tyrant himself in the process.
* HumanAliens: His Aethen race are intelligent and magically talented, but passionate and ambitious, humanoids.
* {{Immortality}}: Morganem and his Warlords are TheAgeless type, living forever until or unless killed. He seeks out other Immortals to join his cause for the (intended) benefit of mortals.
* ImmortalityImmorality: Defied and (attempted) inverted - Morganem thinks that mortals are selfish and destructive to each other and that only immortals can provide "enlightened" rule over them for their own good.
* MarathonBoss: He has 202,950 HP.
* MarkOfTheBeast[=/=]TaintedVeins: When he is eventually met by the Companions in the final chapter, Morganem's in-game model is sickly pale blue with black veins on his face and [[BlackEyesOfCrazy black sclerae]]. [[spoiler: It is probably a consequence of his possession by Uthurak, as during the prologue Morganem uses an unaltered Blood Mage[=/=]Kael'thas model.]]
* OhCrap: His reaction when the Companions storm Khaal Spire in the prologue while his Warlords are out on campaigns and unable to return to defend him in time, and again [[spoiler:when Soul Reaver and Slayer explain the nature of the Void Children and their effects on Morganem after he summoned them]].
* OneManArmy: Being the final boss is the greatest example in history, needing 5 level 50 heroes to defeat him.
* {{Puppet King}}s: He isn't one; he appoints others as Puppet Kings over the lands he conquers.
* SorcerousOverlord: Though he ''wanted'' and tried to become a BenevolentMageRuler.
* StatusBuff: He can cast several on himself or the Void Children. When he summons [[MiniBoss Void Child Hero Units]], he'll always ''Void Jump'' away and start channeling ''Void Nexus'' to give it[=/=]them rapid healing until they die (or until you interrupt his spell, [[MortonsFork in which case he and the Void Child Hero[es] fight you all at once]]).
* {{Teleportation}}: His ''Void Jump'' spell lets him teleport himself anywhere in his BossRoom, and his ''Glimpse of the Void'' spell teleports one of your Companions away and stuns them momentarily.
* ThemeMusicPowerUp: The background music changes to that of the Chapter selection screen when he reaches 25% health.
* TotalPartyKill: When he's almost dead, he starts casting an ''Apocalypse'' spell that summons 5 runes in the lower half of the stage and links them with energy one after another. If the runes are not attacked to disrupt them or Morganem killed in time, the runes form a pentagram and activate, killing your Companions all at once.
* TurnsRed: He uses increasingly dangerous abilities as his health is depleted, including summoning {{Mini Boss}}es at every 25 percent of health lost. When he gets to 25 percent remaining health, he starts using powerful spells such as ''[[SpamAttack Funeral]] [[PlayingWithFire Pyre]]'', ''[[PowerOfTheVoid Void]] [[UnrealisticBlackHole Breach]]'', and ([[DesperationAttack when brought down to four-digit hit points]]) ''[[TotalPartyKill Apocalypse]]''.
* TheUnfought: Sort of. Technically Morganem is the FinalBoss, though [[spoiler:at this point he's no longer himself, but has become Uthurak Incarnate.]]
* WellIntentionedExtremist: He thinks [[InYourNatureToDestroyYourselves mortals are too selfish and short-sighted to rule themselves without fighting and killing each other]], so he created the Council of Six with the hope that Immortals would provide superior leadership.

!!Council of Six
Six Immortals chosen by Morganem to help him rule over Ithia and answerable only to him. In the order that they joined him, they are Maelstrom, Eryion Xanatha, Kathryn Urdanna, Kherek, Dustwalker, and Kaine Shariven.

* AlasPoorVillain: [[spoiler:Except for Maelstrom and Kaine, the other four Warlords]] have somewhat sympathetic send-offs:
** [[spoiler:Kherek mourns the massacre of the Dharuk armies by the Companions when he is killed]].
** [[spoiler:Dustwalker dies alone after failing to avenge Kaine Shariven]].
** [[spoiler:Eryion Xanatha falls in battle with regret for the crimes he committed in Morganem's name, asking Cameron to remember him as a warrior who fought for honor]].
** [[spoiler:Kathryn Urdanna bleeds out while begging for her lover Maelstrom, and Sera tries to comfort her by telling her that Maelstrom is rushing to her side. Kathryn dies surprised that she can still cry after everything that happened during her life, and Sera lampshades that her victory is bittersweet]].
* AntiMagic: Each Warlord besides Kaine has a Mageslayer Ring that temporarily blocks magic damage (not debuffs).
* BossArenaRecovery: [[spoiler:Due to the Companions' Power Orbs reacting to the Warlords']], red and purple orbs appear on the battlefield during their duels; when approached, the orbs are converted into runes that heal the user's HP and MP when their health gets low. The reds are for the Companions and the purple for the Warlords, so you have to use your own wisely while preventing the Warlords from using theirs.
* BossBonanza: In Chapter VI, [[spoiler:you have to destroy [[ReactorBoss the Mana Conduits protecting]] Eryion, Dustwalker, Kherek, Kathryn, and Maelstrom while [[FlunkyBoss they and their subordinate]] [[EliteMooks Dharuk]] and [[SuperpoweredMooks Void Children]] gang up on you]].
* BossRush: In Chapter VII, [[spoiler:the Companions as a group start by fighting the Dharuk Warmaster and his direct subordinates, then the Companions split up to fight the remaining Warlords one-on-one. Downplayed because each Warlord's BossCorridor is filled with enemies to kill in between {{Boss Battle}}s]].
* ConservationOfNinjutsu: JustifiedTrope. In Chapter VI [[spoiler:each member is a threat to the entire group of incompletely-recovered Companions while supported by their Mana Conduits]], while in Chapter VII [[spoiler:they are overcome in one on one battles after the Companions have regained their full powers]].
* DuelBoss: Except Kaine, the other five are each fought one-on-one (with summoned minions) [[labelnote:Order]]Kitharsis vs Kherek, Fei Serumen vs Dustwalker, Cameron Aileron vs Eryion Xanatha, Sera Poi vs Kathryn Urdanna, and Soul Reaver vs Maelstrom.[[/labelnote]] in Chapter VII by one of the Companions.
%%* HeroUnit
* {{Immortality}}: Dustwalker is [[TheUndead undead]], and the others (including Eryion after he becomes an AnimatedArmor) are TheAgeless; all will live forever until or unless killed.
* ReactorBoss: In Chapter VI, the Warlords are unkillable because of their Mana Conduits, which heal back any damage they take. Destroying the Conduits and forcing them to retreat is the goal of the chapter.
* OneManArmy: They are all level 50 heroes, and when fueled by the reactor, they pose a threat to the entire Companion group.
%%* StandardEvilOrganizationSquad
* StatusBuff: Besides Kaine, each Warlord has Bracers of Might that temporarily increase their attack damage.

!!Maelstrom, the Awakened One
An immortal Helgorn king who abandoned his people when he grew bored of his responsibilities. He thought that joining Morganem's crusade would give his life a worthy purpose, and believes that mortals' only value is to benefit Immortals.

* AbdicateTheThrone: Mortal Helgorn kings were required to do this to allow an immortal Helgorn ("Awakened One") to take the throne, but that's not [[KlingonPromotion how Maelstrom became king]]. Maelstrom did this himself after deciding that mortals were worthless and his position was more burden than boon, and became known to his people as the Traitor King.
* AbominationAccusationAttack: Soul Reaver calls him out on being even worse than Morganem in no uncertain terms.
* BadBoss: He admits to Soul Reaver that he used [[ProudWarriorRaceGuy Kurgah Ghar]] as a disposable obstacle for the Companions.
* BerserkButton: Others endangering [[EvenEvilHasLovedOnes Kathryn Urdanna]].
* BigNo: In Chapter VI, at the start of the ending cutscene.
* CoupDeGraceCutscene: [[spoiler:The other Warlords' and Morganem's death cutscenes have them say their LastWords as they lay dying, but Maelstrom is standing and bleeding until Soul Reaver finishes him]].
* DesperatelyLookingForAPurposeInLife: In his backstory. He eventually met Morganem, and decided to help him build his empire in order to subjugate mortals.
* TheDragon: To Morganem, [[CoDragons along with]] the other Warlords and/or ([[Administrivia/TropesAreFlexible depending on trope interpretation]]) [[MookLieutenant Kurgah Ghar]].
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Kathryn Urdanna, and nobody else.
* FantasticRecruitmentDrive: He himself gathered most of the other Immortals in the Council of Six.
* HavingABlast: His ''Shatter Glyph'' spell creates a land mine-like orb that explodes after a delay, and his ''Obliterate'' Ultimate creates a series of explosions in front of him. He uses the latter in a cutscene [[spoiler:to destroy the Obelisk of Strength in Khaal Spire in a failed attempt to prevent the Companions from using it to gain Power Orbs]].
* ImmortalityBeginsAtTwenty: His people, the Helgorn, have a noticeably higher frequency of Immortals than other races, and place a high cultural significance on them. When a Helgorn reaches 60 years without any signs of aging, they are proclaimed an "Awakened One" and required to take the throne as their people's king.
* KlingonPromotion: If the Helgorn king is ''not'' also immortal when a new "Awakened One" is proclaimed, the mortal king must AbdicateTheThrone so that the immortal can become king. If the current king ''is'' immortal, the two must DuelToTheDeath, and the survivor becomes (or remains) the king. Maelstrom became king by the latter method.
* LittleNo: In Chapter VII, when he realizes [[spoiler:your possession of Power Orbs might enable Sera to kill Kathryn]].
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Maelstrom. In light of his behavior and plans, his people's designation of him as an "Awakened One" fails to be a [[NamesToTrustImmediately Name To Trust Immediately]].
* PetTheDog: In his backstory, his search for a purpose led him to perform acts of both "[[BigDamnHeroes highest heroism]]" and "[[KickTheDog basest cruelty.]]" In the present time, his relationship with Kathryn is far more honest and reciprocal than one would expect given his attitude to everyone else.
* TheStarscream: He planned to eventually overthrow Morganem because [[WellIntentionedExtremist Morganem wouldn't abandon his ideals of benefitting mortals]].
* StatusEffects: His ''Fist of Destruction'' damages you and reduces your movement and attack speeds.
%% The "Hints" section of the official website calls his ability "Accelerated Regeneration," but the in-game buff tooltip is labeled "Quickened Essence," so I'm going with the in-game name below.
* StatusBuff: His ''Quickened Essence'' spell increases his movement, attack, and health recovery speeds, and his ''Tower of Might'' Ultimate increases his combat capabilities; Soul Reaver's Anti-Magic Amulet can't dispel the latter effect.
* StrawNihilist: Maelstrom grew bored of tending to his mortal subjects' lives, and decided as a result the sole purpose of mortals was to benefit the everlasting Immortals. [[spoiler:[[TheAntiNihilist Soul Reaver refutes his views]] before [[CoupDeGraceCutscene finishing him off]].]]
* UnholyMatrimony: He and Kathryn appear to genuinely love one another without any reservations or plots of betrayal. [[spoiler:Both times that Sera endangers Kathryn's life]], he is immediately enraged and threatens the Companions.
* VillainousBreakdown: With the sole exception of his love and respect for Kathryn, all of his other faculties vanish in outbursts of rage whenever his plans go awry.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: [[PetTheDog He did this for Kathryn in her past.]] [[UnholyMatrimony This did not make them into nice people.]]
* YourSoulIsMine: [[spoiler:He suffers this at the hands of [[MeaningfulName Soul Reaver]], who calls it a mercy compared to letting Maelstrom's evil soul reach the afterlife]].

!!Eryion Xanatha, the Chained Soul
An honored knight and former mortal human, Eryion became immortal after putting on an enchanted armor that he found during an adventure. Having always dedicated himself to the causes of honor and justice, he traveled the planes on quests for the cause of good and was eventually convinced to bring his ideals to Morganem's empire.

* AnimatedArmor: After donning an enchanted armor he found during an adventure, his body was disintegrated and his soul absorbed into the armor.
* CarryABigStick: Since he uses the Revenant model, he wields a mace.
* CombinationAttack: His ''Soul Mirrors'' cast the same spells Eryion uses at the same time, such as by copying Eryion's ''Mirrored Lightning'' or summoning additional ''Coruscating Guardians'' or ''Black Skies'' lightning strikes.
* CursedWithAwesome: He was initially afraid to put on the armor because he feared that it was cursed, despite his kingdom's mages assuring him they [[DetectEvil detected no evil within it]]. It was only after he was RefusedByTheCall that he finally put on the armor, becoming stronger than ever.
* DamageIncreasingDebuff: His ''Energy Pulse'' spell damages you and decreases your armor.
* EnemySummoner: He often summons two smaller clones of himself called ''Soul Mirrors'' that fight alongside him.
* TheFettered: Both during mortal life and as an immortal, he lives by a strict code of honor. [[spoiler:He dies as a result of refusing to renounce his loyalty to Morganem.]]
* ForGreatJustice: He fights for honor and to defeat evil.
* FourStarBadass: Even before becoming Immortal, he had served his kingdom in multiple campaigns and received many honors and decorations. He now serves as a general of Morganem's Dharuk armies.
* GivingUpTheGhost: Another byproduct of his Revenant unit model - when he dies, his AnimatedArmor falls apart and drops to the ground, and his soul is released and disappears in a burst of electricity.
* HonorBeforeReason: He believes strongly in this, and [[spoiler:Soul Reaver and he both try unsuccessfully to convince each other to stand down by contrasting Morganem's oppression of Ithia (Soul) to the noble intentions of Morganem's plans (Eryion). He realizes before dying that he cannot defeat Cameron, but [[IGaveMyWord refuses to break his oath of loyalty to Morganem]] and chooses instead to fall in battle]].
* ImmortalityInducer: He was mortal before putting on the enchanted armor that made him immortal.
* IveComeTooFar: [[spoiler:He tells Cameron this is why he still serves Morganem despite the latter's devolution into tyranny]].
* ManaBurn: His ''Coruscating Guardians'' Ultimate creates sparking orbs whose attacks inflict both MP and HP damage.
* MultipleReferencePun: He is a "Chained Soul," both to [[AnimatedArmor his enchanted armor]], and to [[TheFettered his code of honor]].
* PowerAtAPrice: When Eryion first found the armor, a warning of this nature was inscribed nearby. This made him reluctant to use it at first, though his kingdom's mages [[DetectEvil checked it for evil and didn't find any]].
* RefusedByTheCall: He was shocked when his [[TheGoodKing good king]] declined his offer to fight in his old age on the grounds that he had already rendered enough honorable service for the kingdom, and this convinced him to put on his magic armor [[TheFettered in hopes of continuing to serve the cause of good.]]
* ShockAndAwe: His ''Mirrored Lightning'' spell, and his ''Black Skies'' and ''Coruscating Guardians'' Ultimates.
* TokenGoodTeammate: He is the only Warlord to value HonorBeforeReason and specifically declare that he fights ForGreatJustice, and actively tried to root out the corruption in Morganem's empire.

!!Kathryn Urdanna, the Dark Maiden
An immortal Drakim who was born into slavery and raised and trained by the Temple of Assassins, she was eventually discovered by Maelstrom and became his lover and one of Morganem's Warlords.

%% If the line below seems like a violation of Administrivia/WalkthroughMode, please comment it out instead of deleting it completely.
Detailed information on Kathryn's abilities was [[WordOfGod posted by Soul Reaver]] at The Hive Workshop [[http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/to-the-bitter-end.202289/page-8#post-2306453 here]].

* AssassinOutclassin: She did this to the Temple of Assassins that had raised and trained her before joining Maelstrom in Morganem's Council. [[spoiler:She is a victim of this twice at the hands of Sera Poi, the second time fatally so]].
* BeingEvilSucks: At first, she hated how her assassinations forced her to kill people after getting close to them, preventing her from forming and maintaining fulfilling relationships with them and causing her to see her victims' grief and anger at her betrayals. [[ThenLetMeBeEvil Then she met Maelstrom...]]
* {{Curse}}: Her ''Blighted Fate'' spell slows a target's movement and causes their attacks to sometimes miss.
* DesignatedGirlFight: Sera Poi vs. Kathryn Urdanna, [[TheSmurfettePrinciple the only two named women in the campaign]].
* FemmeFatale: She was trained to take advantage of her beauty during assassinations.
* FlashStep: Her ''Dagger's Caress'' Ultimate makes her rapidly dash back and forth while attacking her enemies before returning to her initial position. [[InvulnerableAttack She's invulnerable while using it]], so you can't stop the skill with your stuns.
* LovesTheSoundOfScreaming: She may express this sentiment before attacking your party in Chapter VI.
* MageKiller: Her ''Wytchbane'' spell creates a ward that damages the Companions when they cast spells near it.
* MasterPoisoner: She is a trained and successful assassin with various poison-related abilities. One of her spells, ''Venom Storm'', launches a wave of poison that damages a cone of enemies both immediately and over time.
* PlayingWithFire: In Chapter V, she maintains the Darkfire wall that kills your Companions or their allies if they touch it. [[spoiler:When Sera's [[DesignatedBullet reserved arrow]] flies over the wall and hits her, it interrupts her channeling and brings down the fire wall]].
* PoisonedWeapons: Her ''Envenomed Daggers'' (a passive ability) makes her attacks inflict damage over time and slow.
* ProfessionalKiller: She was raised by the Temple of Assassins and became a successful killer, even more so after the Temple discovered her immortality.
* ResignationsNotAccepted: The Temple of Assassins had raised her since birth to be their best, and tried to recapture or kill her after she ran away.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: She's the only female on the Council of Six.
* StatusEffects: Most of her abilities can inflict these, with an emphasis on poison and disables.
* SummonMagic: One of her Ultimates summons four ''Sisters of Pain'' to fight alongside her. Their attacks can stun you and drain your health, and Kathryn can [[DevourTheDragon sacrifice them to restore her own HP]].
* TykeBomb: Her entire childhood was brutal assassin training.
* UnholyMatrimony: With Maelstrom. [[spoiler:Both times Sera overpowers her one-on-one, she cries for Maelstrom to help her.]]
* WingedHumanoid: She uses a recolored Succubus model, so she has either wings or a cape attached to her arms.

!!Kherek, the Hive Ancient
A Hive Ancient of the insectoid Xikir, Kherek eventually left his hive after discovering his immortality and explored the various worlds. Being distraught by the petty selfishness of individualistic mortals in contrast to the Xikir hive mentality, he later found and admired the positive balance of individual ambition and social loyalty in the Dharuk, leading him to join Morganem as a commander of Dharuk operations.

* AbdicateTheThrone: After discovering [[TheWorldIsJustAwesome the possibilities of the world outside his hive]], he unproblematically left to explore the multiverse, "leaving his duties at the hive to other, less imaginative Hive Ancients."
* AllWebbedUp: His ''Corrosive Bindings'' ability prevents movement (not attacks or spells) and inflicts damage over time.
* AsteroidsMonster: Not himself, but [[WeaponizedOffspring the Hive Spawn scarabs he breeds]] from his ''[[SmashedEggsHatching Hive Cocoons]]'' Ultimate split into multiple weaker Hive Brood upon death, and ''those'' [[ExplosiveBreeder will further split into more, even smaller Hive Larva]].
* BeePeople: He is a Xikir, and one of their Hive Ancients, which are basically nest administrators rather than an InsectQueen or HiveQueen. He is also a {{Hermaphrodite}} and, despite being referred to with masculine pronouns, is capable of spawning beetles as minions from ''Hive Cocoons'' (one of his Ultimates).
* ChargedAttack: His ''[[GroundPunch Crushing Claw]]'' ability has a short charge and is marked by a blue-gray fog around his claws, and his ''[[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice Maiming Barbs]]'' Ultimate has a longer delay and is telegraphed by a full-body fiery orange glow.
* GroundPunch: His ''Crushing Claw'' ability stuns and damages surrounding enemies, enough to one-hit-kill Kitharsis' summoned Tirthandaran Skeletons.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: His ''Maiming Barbs'' Ultimate impales everything in a wide circle around him for 1,000 HP damage immediately and 60 HP damage per second for a very long duration.
* MightyGlacier: He has high HP, damage, and armor, and his ChargedAttack spells inflict heavy damage, but he moves even more slowly than Kitharsis.
* PaddedSumoGameplay: Two {{Mighty Glacier}}s, each with external healing, will take a long time to kill each other.
* PaintingTheMedium: [[RoyalWe They Refer To Themselves In The Plural]] And Capitalize The First Letter Of Their Spoken Words. [[WordOfGod The campaign author]] [[http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/to-the-bitter-end.202289/page-8#post-2306453 says]] Kherek's mouth and vocal chords aren't suited to speech, so he talks very deliberately, and his loud, deep voice is due to his size and strength.
* TokenGoodTeammate: While not as vocal about it as Eryion, and despite leaving his hive of BeePeople and seeing various other races [[TheEvilsOfFreeWill let individuality drive them to selfishness and war]], he understands and respects [[ProudWarriorRace the Dharuk's combination of social cooperation and duty with individual honor and aspiration]], leading to WhatMeasureIsAMook.
* WeaponizedOffspring: His ''Hive Cocoons'' hatch after a delay ([[SmashedEggsHatching or when destroyed]]) into powerful scarab-like Hive Spawn which [[AsteroidsMonster split into Hive Brood later or upon death]], [[ExplosiveBreeder and the Hive Brood likewise split into Hive Larva]].
* WhatMeasureIsAMook: He criticizes Kitharsis over the many Dharuk the Companions have killed during their campaign to stop Morganem.

!!Dustwalker, the Gravelord
Born Ayev Kalmis, he suffered of plague as a child and eventually used necromancy to escape death via ''un''death. Dustwalker's wanderings led him to eventually take Kaine Shariven as a protégé and join Morganem with Kaine.

* AgonyBeam: A variation - his ''Pain Wave'' ability damages and stuns nearby enemies, though its animation is a visible circular wave and sounds like a ghostly howl (but it's not actually [[MakeMeWannaShout a scream-based attack]]).
* AnimateDead: He does this to make an undead army, and can use it during battle as well.
* AvengingTheVillain: In Chapter VII, he attempts to avenge Kaine Shariven by killing Fei Serumen.
* BadassBookworm: After becoming Undead, he spent his time learning everything his city's mages' libraries could teach him of magic and necromancy, and now has a knowledge of magic to rival Morganem.
* CastingAShadow: His ''Shadowcall'' Ultimate summons invulnerable shadows to attack you.
* DoomedHometown: His home city's population suffered from [[ThePlague the Crimson Mourning]], and eventually only Dustwalker survived ([[TheUndead so to speak]]).
* DyingAlone: [[spoiler:Technically, he doesn't because Fei is still there, but]] Dustwalker points out that Fei is distrusted by his own allies and tells Fei that he will die alone and empty. Fei doesn't mind.
* ElementalPunch: WordOfGod [[https://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/to-the-bitter-end.202289/page-19#post-3151257 posted here]] says Dustwalker's purple-glowing hands (which are actually part of the Draenei mage unit model) indicate a permanent ''Fists of Force'' spell (i.e. a passive ability) that augments his strikes.
* EnemySummoner: Unlike Kaine, Dustwalker's combat abilities [[DownplayedTrope are not limited to raising undead to fight for him]].
* EvilGenius: He serves as one of Morganem's advisors.
* FlunkyBoss: He constantly raises undead minions from piles of corpses in his {{Boss Room}}s.
* ImHavingSoulPains: One of Dustwalker's offensive spells creates a GivingUpTheGhost effect [[labelnote:Animation]]It's the effect ''VideoGame/{{WarCraft}} III'' uses when Undead Heroes die, and this campaign uses it that same way for Soul Reaver's summoned Daemons.[[/labelnote]] on its target.
* IntangibleMan: His ''Wraithform'' spell blocks a limited amount of magic damage and gives him a high chance to dodge physical attacks. Exhausting its magic damage limit will end it prematurely.
* TheMentor: He greatly improved Kaine Shariven's knowledge of necromancy.
* MookCommander: His ''Malign Presence'' Ultimate summons a giant invincible shade with a wide-range debuffing aura. It doesn't move independently, but follows Dustwalker around like Cameron's ''Psychic Onslaught''.
* {{Necromancer}}: He used it to save himself from death, and later became TheMentor to Kaine Shariven.
* NightOfTheLivingMooks: He and Kaine bolster Morganem's armies with undead minions.
* OnlyFriend: Kaine Shariven is Dustwalker's, and the latter wants to avenge the former's death against Fei Serumen and Soul Reaver.
* RedBaron: The manual says his real name was Ayev Kalmis, but in-game he's only referred to as Dustwalker.
* RevengeMyopia: He states his intention to [[AvengingTheVillain avenge Kaine Shariven's death by killing Fei Serumen and Soul Reaver]], but when he's called out on [[BrainwashedAndCrazy Kaine's mind-control attack that forced Fei to attack innocent villages]], Dustwalker explicitly declares that "[[NoSympathy [Fei's] own grievance does not matter]]."
* SoleSurvivor: Downplayed because he's undead, but everyone else in his hometown died of ThePlague.
* TheUndead: His method of attaining immortality.

!!Kaine Shariven, the Necromancer
A street child turned necromancer who eventually killed everyone in his hometown. He respects Dustwalker as a mentor in necromancy, and the two supply Morganem with armies of undead.

* AnimateDead: He does this throughout Chapter II to raise an army of undead for Morganem. One of his Ultimates summons a single ''[[DemBones Skeletal]] [[GiantMook Titan]]'', and [[EnemySummoner he has another spell and another Ultimate for multi-unit spawns]].
* BurnTheWitch: This happened to the Order of Necromancers that first taught Kaine.
* TheCorrupter: [[spoiler:He induces Fei Serumen to [[BrainwashedAndCrazy give in to bloodlust]], and you have to free Fei from his control]].
* ElderlyImmortal: Despite being the youngest of the Council of Six, Kaine is the only one that looks old, since he uses the undead necromancer[=/=]human[=!=]Kel'Thuzad's model.
* EnemySummoner: As a necromancer, his spell selection revolves around summoning allies and strengthening them.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: The manual says the other Warlords have rebuked him more than once for his ruthlessness.
* FieldPowerEffect: He planted an enchantment over Geierburg and the surrounding villages that would automatically [[NightOfTheLivingMooks raise anyone who died there as undead for Morganem's armies]].
* FlunkyBoss: His undead minions include [[DemBones skeletons]], [[OurZombiesAreDifferent zombies]], and [[OurGhoulsAreCreepier ghouls]].
* LifeDrain: His Ghouls drain health from your units with each attack.
* TheMentor: First an unnamed man from the Order of Necromancers, then Dustwalker, the latter being far superior than the former (both in power and as the trope).
* NameOfCain: Despite [[MyNaymeIs the spelling]] and lacking siblings, the {{Necromancer}} Kaine is definitely evil.
* {{Necromancer}}: He started in the Order of Necromancers, and after they were witch-hunted and he got revenge, Dustwalker eventually found him and taught him even more.
* NightOfTheLivingMooks: He orchestrated the massacres of entire villages to raise the people as undead minions.
* PowerAtAPrice: His Ghouls can use ''Feeding Frenzy'' to attack more quickly at the cost of taking damage over time.
* SortingAlgorithmOfEvil: The other members of the Council of Six are Level 50, but Kaine is Level 26, lower than the nominally subordinate Dharuk Officers and Champions fought in later Chapters.
* StatusBuff: His undead minions' damage and armor is increased by his ''Strengthen Undead'' ability.
* StatusEffects: His ''Choke'' spell slows one target's movement and inflicts damage over time.
* StreetUrchin: He picked pockets as a kid before being caught by the man who revealed to him the power of Necromancy and became his first teacher.
* TimeLimitBoss: You have 45 minutes to complete the entire Chapter II, including killing Kaine.
* WhereIWasBornAndRazed: After [[BurnTheWitch the Order of Necromancers was purged]], he killed everyone with plagues and an undead army, then raised the townspeople again as more undead slaves.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: The Dharuk]]
A race of red-skinned humanoids from the planet Dhar, Morganem chose these to be his army after discovering they were both physically strong enough to enforce his will and mentally resilient enough to retain their sanity (and lives) while traveling through the Warp.

* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership[=/=]DefeatMeansRespect: These determine leadership and status to the Dharuk.
* BadassArmy: Morganem systematically recruited the entire Dharuk race to serve as such.
* TheBerserker: All Dharuk (except their [[BeastOfBattle unmounted beasts]] and SiegeEngines) can use ''Dharuk Battle Frenzy'' to [[StatusBuff increase their movement and attack speeds]].
* BizarreAlienReproduction: According to the manual, instead of normal genders, Dharuk intermittently withdraw from public life and enter a breeding cycle; their backs sprout egg-like pustules which are fertilized by airborne cells shed by other Dharuk, and the pustules mature and burst open to reveal juvenile Dharuk. The higher a tribe's mortality rate, the higher its members' fecundity seems to be, which is why their population remains stable and dominates Dhar despite their near-constant warfare.
* OurOrcsAreDifferent: Dharuk are basically red-skinned "''[[Creator/BlizzardEntertainment Blizzard]]''-style" orcs, with an honor-based warrior culture and humanlike or better intelligence and magic (and better strength and toughness), and are portrayed in-game using the various Fel Orc unit models.
* ProudWarriorRace: A quality that Morganem, Eryion Xanatha, and Kherek all appreciate.
* PsychicBlockDefense: Their minds are resilient enough to resist insanity caused by traveling through [[VoidBetweenTheWorlds the Warp]].
* SortingAlgorithmOfEvil: Stronger than the humans and zombies of the first two Chapters, but weaker than the Void Children who become more common in later Chapters.
* StrongerWithAge: The manual says that Dharuk live around 300 to 400 years, and constantly get stronger throughout their lives, only weakening in their last year or two. Most Dharuk die in battle before then.

!!Non[=-=]HeroUnit Dharuk soldiers
The rank and file of Morganem's Dharuk armies.

* BeastOfBattle: Dharuk Razorpigs and Dharuk Battle Wolves.
* BlackMage: Dharuk War Mages can buff their allies and raise Dharuk Skeletons from nearby corpses.
* DecapitationPresentation: The manual has an image of a Dharuk Warrior holding up a human[=[=][[HumanAliens oid]][=]=] man's severed head.
* DegradedBoss: The first Dharuk Warrior was a MiniBoss; later ones "merely" fill the BadassArmy.
* DemBones: Dharuk Skeletons raised by Dharuk War Mages.
* TheDragon: A Dharuk Warrior serves as a bodyguard for Luther Arctus in Chapter I.
* EliteMooks: They're stronger than most worlds' humans[=/=]HumanAliens, but not as powerful as [[SuperpoweredMooks Void Children]], to the point that when Void Children become more common, Dharuk become standard Mooks with the elite role given to Void Children.
* TheGoomba: Avoided at the beginning, where the role of Goombas was for human soldiers, while the Dharuk is more of a mini-boss, but as from the third chapter the Dharuk begin to be common enemies, with the Void Children being the elite, the Dharuk they begin to fulfill the role of Goombas.
* MountedCombat: The Dharuk Cavalry (which use the Fel Orc Raider model) ride wolves, and Dharuk Ghaurag Riders (which use the Fel Orc Kodo Beast model) have rhinoceros-like mounts that also carry ''[[MookCommander War Drums]]''.
* NormalFishInATinyPond: The Dharuk in the first chapter is not special, but being in a low-level place, he is the most powerful non-hero unit on the map and Luther's personal enforcer.
* OhMyGods: In Chapter IV, a Dharuk Warrior complains about being sent on their mission, entering a frozen mountain range with some Void Children (only to find lots more), "for Garrogh knows what reason...."
* ProjectileSpell: One Dharuk War Mage spell launches an energy bolt that damages and stuns one target.
* SiegeEngines: Dharuk Siege Engines are catapults that cover a circular area-of-effect with [[ArrowsOnFire Chaos Fire Projectiles]].
* StatusBuff:
** All Dharuk can use ''[[TheBerserker Dharuk Battle Frenzy]]'' to increase their movement and attack speeds.
** Dharuk War Mages can cast ''[[IncendiaryExponent Eldritch Fire]]'' to increase their own or their allies' attack damage.
** Dharuk Ghaurag Riders' ''[[MookCommander War Drums]]'' passively increases the attack damage of all nearby allies, including itself.
* StatusEffects: Dharuk War Mages have a spell that damages and momentarily stuns your Companions.
* WhatMeasureIsAMook: [[TokenGoodTeammate Kherek]] [[WhatTheHellHero calls out the Companions for killing them]], [[ZigZaggingTrope but]] [[BadBoss Maelstrom]] [[WeHaveReserves doesn't care about them]].
* WorkerUnit: Dharuk Slaves in Chapters V and VI.
* TheWorfEffect: In Chapter IV, some Dharuk are easily defeated by a group of Void Children to demonstrate the superiority of the latter.

!!Dharuk Officers and Dharuk Champions
Sub-leaders of the Dharuk armies who [[AsskickingLeadsToLeadership proved their worth over hundreds of campaigns]].

* CarryABigStick: The Dharuk Officers.
* FlashStep: The Dharuk Champion has a spell which makes him jump up and dash to his target with an axe chop that stuns and damages his enemy.
* FlunkyBoss: In Chapters V and VI they attack with subordinate Dharuk fighters.
%%* HeroUnit
* KnowWhenToFoldThem: In the epilogue, [[spoiler:when the Dharuk armies see that the Companions have escaped [[EvilTowerOfOminousness Khaal Spire]] alive after defeating [[BigBad Morganem]], one of the Dharuk Champions leading the army [[DefeatMeansRespect lowers his head]], and the armies scatter without fighting the Companions any further]].
* LightningBruiser: They can move quickly, kill you with normal attacks in about a minute, and have strong spells.
* MakeMeWannaShout: The Dharuk Officer's ''Deafening Battle Cry'' Ultimate damages and stuns nearby enemies.
* MiniBoss: They might be local-area bosses, but never end-of-Chapter bosses.
* MookLieutenant: They serve Kurgah Ghar and the Council of Six, but lead the Dharuk armies.
* MountedCombat: The Dharuk Officers use the Mathog[=/=]Orc Warchief model, so they ride horses and wield clubs.
* ReverseShrapnel: One of the Dharuk Champion's Ultimates throws a large amount of bouncing blades that repeatedly attack enemies in a wide range around him.
* SpinAttack: The Dharuk Champion's ''Whirling Frenzy'' Ultimate is a renamed Bladestorm - move while spinning with blade extended, hit all enemies around him for massive damage, and remain immune to magic until it's done.
* StatusBuff:
** Both Dharuk Heroes' ''[[TheBerserker Greater Dharuk Battle Frenzy]]'' increases the speed of movement, attacks, ''and'' HP recovery.
** The Dharuk Officer can use ''Enchanted Armor'' to increase his own armor, and can also use ''Rally Strength'' to strengthen himself and nearby allies.
* WeCanRuleTogether: A variation - Dharuk Champion Gorhuk Takruhg offers to let King Garamond and Prince Sorin Eridem remain as {{Puppet King}}s of the Blessed Lands if they [[BringHimToMe surrender the five Companions that Morganem is hunting]].
* YouAreInCommandNow: Maelstrom to Dharuk Champion Bughar Kahjuk in Chapter V, while [[spoiler:evacuating Kathryn after she is wounded by Sera's [[DesignatedBullet specially reserved arrow]]]].

!!Kurgah Ghar, the Dharuk Warmaster
The Warmaster of the most powerful tribe of Dharuk before being defeated by Morganem, he was spared his life and position and made leader of all Dharuk in exchange for his loyalty to Morganem.

* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: He was the Warmaster of the most powerful Dharuk tribe, and remained Warmaster after Morganem helped him unify the Dharuk.
* DeathEqualsRedemption: [[spoiler:After being defeated and realizing that his and his Dharuk's lives were wasted, he reveals to the Companions the damaged Obelisk of Strength and the danger of the Power Orbs it gave the Council of Six]].
* TheDragon: To the Council of Six.
%%* HeroUnit
* LightningBruiser: His stats are much higher than other Dharuk {{Hero Unit}}s, [[AsskickingLeadsToLeadership which is why he's in charge]].
* MookLieutenant: Only in relative terms, since he himself commands Dharuk Officers and Dharuk Champions.
* OldMaster: Looks old, being bald and long-bearded, [[labelnote:Model]]He uses the Blademaster of Blackrock Clan unit model.[[/labelnote]] but he ''is'' the Warmaster.
* SpinAttack: His ''Whirling Frenzy'' Ultimate is the same as or stronger than the Dharuk Champion's version.
* WolfpackBoss: He is accompanied by two Dharuk Champions and two Dharuk Officers that are each almost as strong as him, as well as three Dharuk Warriors and one Dharuk War Mage.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: The Void Children]]
Powerful beings of a mysterious nature, Morganem made contact with them and secured an alliance with them, summoning them to Ithia to help him fight off the Companions' initial attack on Khaal Spire.

* AlwaysChaoticEvil: [[spoiler:They're all as evil as their progenitor, Uthurak]].
* CarryABigStick: Since they use the Unbroken and Faceless One unit models, they all wield clubs.
* {{Cthulhumanoid}}: All of them, except the [[EldritchAbomination Void Growth]], [[CombatTentacles Void Capillaries, and Void Arteries]].
* PaintingTheMedium: Their speech text is colored purple.
* PiecesOfGod: [[spoiler:Each and every one is a fragment of TheAntiGod, Uthurak]].
* PowerOfTheVoid: Most if not all of their abilities are named after and draw from the Void.
* PragmaticVillainy: Because they needed help to reach Ithia, they honored the alliance proposed by Morganem.

!!Lesser Void Children
The weakest of the Void Children, taking the form of red or purple cudgel-wielding {{Cthulhumanoid}}s. [[labelnote:Models]]The reds use the Unbroken unit model and the purples use the Faceless One unit model.[[/labelnote]]

* TheBerserker: The Void Child Fury's ''[[InsaneEqualsViolent Insane Frenzy]]'' increases its attack speed, but it takes damage over time.
* BossInMookClothing: Large Void Children are not {{Hero Unit}}s, but they are easily as dangerous as one. In Chapter V, enemy waves led by Dharuk Heroes may be easier to defeat than those led by Void Children. The little ones can also be dangerous, especially when they come in numbers.
* ColourCodedForYourConvenience: The red ones use melee attacks and prefer damage spells, while the purple ones use ranged attacks and prefer support magic.
* DegradedBoss: The first Void Child Fury was a MiniBoss released to fight your party in Chapter III while the Dharuk stood back to watch (out of aggro range unless the Companions attacked the Fury while it was still close to them).
* EliteMook: They end up replacing the Dharuk in this role.
* GiantMook: The Void Child Malice and Void Child Anguish.
* HumanPopsicle: The purple Void Children's ''Void Winds'' spell encases one of your Companions in ice for a short duration, preventing movement and combat; Soul Reaver's Anti-Magic Amulet can't dispel it.
* MiniBoss: Large Void Children usually perform in this role. They are usually as strong as a Dharuk hero and are dangerous, even if only one is present.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: Even the smaller ones are strong enough to kill your heroes quickly in early Chapters.
* ASinisterClue: They wield their cudgels in their left hands and are all intrinsically evil.
* SuperpoweredMooks: According to the manual, "Their [[ThreeStatSystem strength, agility, and intelligence]] are phenomenal, and the greatest mortal heroes would be hard-pressed to defeat even the weakest of the Void Children in a duel."
* {{Teleportation}}: When reduced to half health, a Void Child Malice will warp up to a medium distance away. It then uses this spell like normal, and it always appears next to one of the Companions.
* ThemeNaming: The red ones are named after emotions harmful to others ([[UnstoppableRage Fury]], {{Lust}}, and [[GreenEyedMonster Malice]]), while the purple ones are named after emotions harmful to oneself ([[PrimalFear Fear]], [[HowlOfSorrow Sorrow]], and [[BreakTheCutie Anguish]]).

!!The Void Growth
A bloated, pulsating mass summoned by the Void Children for an obscure purpose.

* BossRoom: An outdoor version. It creates SomeKindOfForceField to lock you "in" with it, but [[SuspiciousVideoGameGenerosity your health and mana are refilled when the fight begins]].
* CombatTentacles: It sprouts Void Capillaries through the ground to attack at range.
* FlunkyBoss: Lesser Void Children fight alongside it.
* KeystoneArmy: Killing it ends the Chapter even if lesser Void Children remain.
* StationaryBoss: It can't move from its location in the center of its (outdoor) "BossRoom."
* SummoningRitual: [[spoiler:The lesser Void Children were attempting to summon one of these at the beginning of Chapter IV before Kitharsis stopped them. They succeed at the end of the Chapter, and your Companions fight it as a boss.]]

!!Void Child Hatred and Void Child Despair
[[ExaggeratedTrope Extremely powerful and dangerous]] Void Children, even by [[SuperpoweredMooks the standards of their kind]].

* AgonyBeam[=/=]TheParalyzer: The Void Child Hatred's ''Pain Prison'' disables one enemy's movement and attacks and inflicts damage over time.
* ChargedAttack: Their Ultimates are powerful channeled abilities that will [[TotalPartyKill nuke you]] if not interrupted with stuns.
* ColourCodedForYourConvenience: Again, just like the lesser Void Children.
* DegradedBoss: Downplayed. Initially they are introduced as bosses, but in subsequent chapters they are treated as Mini-bosses, but luckily they only appear at very specific points, and in most cases you only have to face 1 at a time.
* DualBoss: At the end of Chapter V.
* {{Fireballs}}: The Void Child Hatred's ''Storm of Hate'' Ultimate summons a stampede of powerful fireballs that inflict massive area-of-effect damage on impact as long as the Hatred channels the spell.
* {{Hero Unit}}s: Since they're not playable, this quality provides little more unique benefits to them than to give them [[NominalImportance unique proper names]], since increasing their CharacterLevel ''without'' [[HeroMustSurvive killing your own Heroes]] is improbable and would likely require you to intentionally "feed" them your summoned units.
* ImHavingSoulPains: The Void Child Despair's ''Soul Rending'' Ultimate attacks all enemies within a target area-of-effect for heavy damage every 1.5 seconds as long as the Despair channels the spell.
* KingMook: They have the same bodies as lesser Void Children, but bigger.
* MiniBoss: In Chapters VI through VIII. They are technically no longer bosses, but they are still tough heroes to beat.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast[=/=]ThemeNaming: Void Child [[ThePowerOfHate Hatred]] have physically violent names like [[SetTheWorldOnFire Worlds Burning]] and [[LudicrousGibs Gore Storm]], while Void Child [[DespairEventHorizon Despair]] have emotionally depressing names like [[HopeCrusher Hope's End]] and [[DarknessEqualsDeath Eternal Darkness]].
* PowerNullifier: The Void Child Despair's ''Sorcerous Seal'' spell temporarily disables the spells and attacks of all its enemies in a circular area of effect. It doesn't disable items, and Soul Reaver's Anti-Magic Amulet can dispel it.
* SignatureRoar: The appearance of a Void Child Hatred is announced with a low, growling snarl, while the appearance of a Void Child Despair is announced with a higher-pitched, snake-like hiss. In Chapter V, these sounds are included in their introduction cutscene, but in later Chapters it plays immediately when each is spawned ([[RoarBeforeBeating and it proceeds to attack the Companions]]). If [[DualBoss the snarl is quickly followed by the hiss]], [[SaveScumming save your game]] and PrepareToDie!
* SummonMagic: The Void Child Despair can summon a ''Dark Memory'' that copies itself after attacking a certain small number of times. [[ExplosiveBreeder Each clone can also copy itself]], so either kill them before they overwhelm you or wait for the summon duration to expire (spawned copies last a bit longer than their "parent," but they will all die almost simultaneously).

!!Uthurak
A primordial quasi-deity once sealed "below" Ithia, unwittingly released by (and possessing) Morganem.

* TheAntiGod: The birth of the Young Gods and Ithia also had a equal and opposite reaction that created negative energy, which amassed and eventually became Uthurak. Uthurak isn't truly a god; he is their (and Ithia's) opposite.
* AsLongAsThereIsEvil: Or better saying as long there is Ithia. Since Uthurak is a result of the creation of the Plane, he can never be destroyed, only banished.
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler:Inflicts this upon Morganem to manifest himself in Ithia]].
* DeusExitMachina: It's stated that more than half of [[{{Precursors}} the Young Gods]] were killed sealing away Uthurak the first time, and the remainder are still too greatly weakened to do it again, which is why ItsUpToYou.
* EldritchAbomination: He is a god of immense power, capable of destroying the entire Plane, and dwells in (or to be more accurate, actually is) the Void.
* GodOfEvil: While the Gods created Ithia, Uthurak wants to destroy it.
* IAmLegion: [[spoiler:All Void Children are not individuals, but instead fragments of this powerful being]].
* IHaveManyNames[=/=]RedBaron: They're all NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast.
--> '''[[spoiler:Slayer]]:''' It is known as [[TheAntiGod Godsbane]], [[TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt Ithia's End]], [[TheNothingAfterDeath the Final Darkness]]... or simply: "Uthurak".
--> '''[[spoiler:Morganem]]:''' [[labelnote:Purple]]The text [[PaintingTheMedium is colored varying shades of purple]].[[/labelnote]] '''[[OhCrap Uthurak...?]]''' ''[[LittleNo No!]]'' '''''[[HeWhoMustNotBeNamed You invoke names long unspoken.]]''''' ''[[VoiceOfTheLegion It...]]'' '''[[ThisCannotBe it cannot be...]]'''
* OmnicidalManiac: His only purpose is to destroy Ithia and turn everything as it once was: pure nothingness.
* SealedEvilInACan: Despite the Gods' attempts, Uthurak can never be truly destroyed, so they were forced to banish him "below" the Plane.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Allies]]

!!Slayer
A mysterious figure with connections to the Companions, but serving a different employer.

* AstralProjection: He sends these to talk to you and never appears in person [[spoiler:until the Epilogue]].
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: One of the only hints of [[spoiler:his secret, evil true personality]] is a part of his [[MrExposition exposition]] to [[AmnesiacHero Soul Reaver]] at the beginning of Chapter I. Just after explaining [[SorcerousOverlord what Morganem has been doing to Ithia]]...
--> '''Slayer:''' [[ChronicHeroSyndrome Like you usually do]], you decided to take personal offense at this ([[EvilCannotComprehendGood beats me why you'd bother]]) and went after Morganem.
* EvilVersusOblivion: WordOfGod posted [[http://www.hiveworkshop.com/threads/to-the-bitter-end.202289/page-18#post-3131158 here]] reveals that [[spoiler:Slayer is evil and serves an evil master, neither of which is known to the Companions. He sends an AstralProjection to manipulate them into preventing Morganem[=/=]Uthurak from destroying Ithia and personally confirms the disappearance of the Void Children so that his master "can later use Ithia for his own sinister purposes."]]
* EyesAlwaysShut: He uses a modified Human Chaplain model, and his eyes are always closed (but still have the Chaplain's blue sparks rising from under his eyelids).
* MrExposition: He reappears in Chapter VIII to explain [[spoiler:the nature of the Void Children and the effects of their summoning on Morganem]].
* MysteriousBenefactor: He helps Soul Reaver escape the Prison Cube he was sealed in at the beginning of the game, but little is revealed about him in the campaign or manual.
* WhereAreTheyNowEpilogue: [[spoiler:He appears again in the frozen mountains from Chapter IV apparently to confirm that the Void Children have disappeared from the area]].

!!Prisoners and Hektor's Brigands
Various prisoners (criminal and political) incarcerated in Greyholm Prison under Luther Arctus's watch.

* BackStab: This Rogue and Assassin ability grants invisibility and bonus damage to [[InvisibilityFlicker the first invisible attack]].
* BlackAndGrayMorality: Their crimes are presented as a lesser evil than Luther Arctus's greed for power.
* EscortMission: Several other prisoners have also been stripped of their weapons and stuck in cages. Breaking their cell doors rescues and lets you control them, but you still need to walk them to nearby storage areas to rearm them.
* JavelinThrower: Rogues and Assassins wield these.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: Thugs can Defend to reduce Piercing (in practice, ranged) damage and possibly [[AttackReflector deflect the arrows back to the attacker]], but move more slowly while Defend is active.
* MasterOfUnlocking: Soul Reaver's first task is to give an imprisoned Rouge a Lockpick so he can open his and his buddy's cell doors. [[ItOnlyWorksOnce All future doors are opened with keys or broken down]].
* TheMedic: Elven Journeymen have weak attacks, but have your only active healing abilities besides your Tent.
* TheParalyzer: Assassins' ''Paralyzing Javelin'' ability uses poison to inflict damage and long-lasting stun.
* PoisonedWeapons: Assassins' ''Poisoned Javelins'' passive ability lets their attacks inflict damage over time.
* WeNeedADiversion: Two Rogues distract the Overseer's office guards to help Soul Reaver recover his equipment.

!!Hektor Bliten, the Brigand Leader
The boss of a band of criminals, many of whom are incarcerated with him in Greyholm Prison.

* ChangedMyMindKid: When you meet Luther Arctus, Hektor and his brigands come back (after having left you earlier) to fight Luther alongside you.
* FlechetteStorm: One of Hektor's spells throws a fan of knives at enemies surrounding him in a circle.
* ForcedSleep: He has a spell that [[StatusEffects causes a single target to fall asleep]].
* GoAndSinNoMore: Before leaving, Soul Reaver gives him the following admonishment:
--> '''Soul Reaver:''' "Fight your oppressors, Hektor, but leave the innocent be... lest justice find you."
* GreatEscape: He's almost done it before, and he'll make it this time, over Luther Arctus' dead body if need be.
* HeroMustSurvive: In addition to yourself, you must also keep Hektor from being killed by the guards, since Hektor knows [[OpenSesame the password to deactivate the magic wards]] that seal the inmates within the prison.
* HeroUnit: Depending on how many Guard Forces are killed by Hektor and his brigands (as opposed to those killed by Soul Reaver and his recruited prisoners), Hektor might level up during the battle, for whatever it's worth.
* KingMook: A bigger, HeroUnit version of the axe-wielding melee brigands.
* OpenSesame: The phrase "Shekuth, Erah Yaru Destarim." disables the Planar Seal around Greyholm Prison.
* StartsStealthilyEndsLoudly: After being freed from their [[PowerNullifier Prison]] [[TailorMadePrison Cubes]], Soul Reaver and he both start by sneaking around, gathering weapons and reinforcements. Both end up fighting alongside their accomplices against Luther Arctus and his prison staff to finish the Chapter.
* TailorMadePrison: Downplayed - like Soul Reaver, he was locked in a magically reinforced Prison Cube which was assigned an additional security detail. Neither he nor Soul escaped without assistance.
* ThinkNothingOfIt: After Soul Reaver thanks him for [[ChangedMyMindKid coming back to help defeat Luther Arctus]], Hektor answers he'd have had to fight Luther anyway, but [[SubvertedTrope also admits he might not have beaten Luther without Soul's help]].
* WhereAreTheyNowEpilogue: He and his fellow bandits continue to ambush military caravans.

!!Geierburg and Surrounding Villages
A group of towns near which Soul Reaver finds himself after escaping Greyholm Prison, and upon which Kaine Shariven has loosed a brainwashed Fei Serumen to kill their people and raise his undead armies.

* ItIsDehumanizing: The below-mentioned Town Guards, after fleeing from "[[spoiler:that blood drinking monster]]," ask Soul Reaver if he is hunting it. Soul responds, "[[spoiler:HIS name is Fei Serumen]]."
* LateToTheTragedy: Soul Reaver arrives too late to prevent the deaths of the villagers.
* MenOfSherwood: Three Town Guards join Soul Reaver just before the third RecurringBoss fight.
* NightOfTheLivingMooks: The villagers' corpses arise as undead just in time for Soul Reaver to fight them.
* RedShirt: The Town Guards are too weak to inflict serious damage or last long against [[spoiler:Fei Serumen, but they can take some hits from his ''Celerity'' Ultimate in Soul Reaver's place]].
* ScreamingWoman: The second RecurringBoss battle is preceded by a woman screaming [[DisposableWoman just before being killed]]. [[TheSmurfettePrinciple She's the only woman besides Sera and Kathryn to speak during a cutscene]].
* ThinkNothingOfIt: When Soul tells them [[spoiler:he plans to cure Fei's madness]], the Town Guards agree to help, saying their duty can be fulfilled if they help stop the attacks on the villages.
* WhereAreTheyNowEpilogue: [[BittersweetEnding Many villages are in flaming ruins, but survivors are burying their dead and rebuilding their homes after the undead are gone]].

!!Eivahin, the Elder Druid
The leader of the Druids of Heart Grove. His health and his forest's survival are linked, so the injury or death of one is the injury or death of both.

* CoupDeGraceCutscene: If [[AdvancingBossOfDoom the Juggernaut gets too close to Heart Grove]], a cutscene plays in which Eivahin sadly accepts his coming death and that of the forest; the Juggernaut then [[OneHitKill one-shots him]], and all the trees fall down.
* {{Druid}}: Both him and his followers.
* FetchQuest: Eivahin sends you to retrieve some acorns (three in the lower part of the map, four in the higher part) which he can grow into [[{{Treants}} Treemen]] to fight off the Juggernaut. Eivahin can't go himself because he needs to prepare the SummoningRitual, and his Druids can't go because the Dharuk will kill them easily.
* FisherKing: He feels the damage inflicted upon the forest as if it were pain in his own body, and if he is killed, the entire forest of Heart Grove and all its inhabitants will die with him.
* HeroUnit: Though with no active attack capability and little if any opportunity to [[CharacterLevel level up]].
* HomeFieldAdvantage: During the fight with the Juggernaut, you can heal quickly by standing near him in Heart Grove, but you must balance this against the time you spend walking between Eivahin and the Juggernaut.
* OhMyGods: He and the other Druids invoke the protection of a being or power they call Hyphistu.
* PerceptionFilter: He uses this to conceal the Companions from the Juggernaut in the first half of Chapter III.
* SquishyWizard: His stats are 15 Strength, 15 Agility, and 105 Intelligence, with no basic attacks, but he can maintain his HomeFieldAdvantage spell nonstop throughout the entire Juggernaut battle.
* {{Treants}}: Treeman Guardians, Sentinels, and Elders grown from [[FetchQuest returned Acorns]], and Animated Trees called by {{Druid}}s.
* WhenTreesAttack: If you bring him the acorns found scattered in Heart Grove, he and the other Druids plant them, growing them into the Treemen who fight to defend the forest. Regardless of whether or not any acorns are returned in time, the other Druids are also capable of creating Animated Trees from the forest to fight the Dharuk alongside them.
* WhereAreTheyNowEpilogue: Eivahin casts a spell to purify the Blight and regrow the fallen trees in the forest.
* WhiteMage: Eivahin conceals you from the Juggernaut's search and prepares the ritual to awaken the [[{{Treants}} Treemen]] during the first half of the Chapter, and maintains a healing rain to help you recover during the second half, leaving direct combat to your Companions, his subordinate Druids, [[WhenTreesAttack the Treemen and Animated Trees]].
* YouAreTheTranslatedForeignWord:
-->'''Eivahin:''' In times of great strife, we Druids can summon forth the mighty Kar'arak - the [[{{Treants}} Treemen]] - to help defend Heart Grove.

!!The Guardians of the Blessed Lands
The people of the Blessed Lands under attack by Morganem's Dharuk armies.

* BadassArmy: Strong enough to defend against the Dharuk and the Void Children.
* ChurchMilitant: Their combat units include Clerics and horse-mounted Templar Knights.
* MedievalEuropeanFantasy: To the point of ChurchMilitant combatants and RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething.
* OhMyGods: The Blessed Lands' patron deity is Radgar, and its royalty rule by divine right ([[TheGoodKing but]] [[TheWisePrince well]]).
* SchizoTech: Marksmen wield rifles alongside their sword-, staff-, and warhammer-wielding comrades.
* WorkerUnit: [[IndenturedServitude Serfs]], in keeping with the MedievalEuropeanFantasy.
* YeOldeButcheredeEnglishe: The fair people of the Blessed Lands doth speak to thee in this manner.

!!Prince Sorin Eridem, the Guardian
Second son of King Garamond Eridem, Prince Sorin leads the armies of the Blessed Lands against the invading Dharuk.

* BeautyEqualsGoodness[=/=]LightIsGood: He identifies Sera Poi's AngelicBeauty and [[{{Nephilim}} divine heritage]] as proof of her innate righteousness. He escorts the other Companions to King Garamond for the latter to DetectEvil.
* TheCavalry: You can sound Alarm Bells at the Bell Towers to call his army in as reinforcements for your outposts. He can't switch outposts quickly, though, and he won't come during the second half of the Chapter.
* GondorCallsForAid: You have three Bell Towers in each of your bases whose bells can be rung to call Sorin and his army to that base. It does take him time to move between his base and each of yours, and he'll stop answering it after the first part of the Chapter.
* HeroUnit: If called to fight, he can gain experience and level up like your Companions, making him stronger and more capable of surviving battles later in the Chapter.
* HeroMustSurvive: His death earns you a NonstandardGameOver.
* ThePaladin: He even uses the [[PaletteSwap dark-gray-haired]] variant Paladin model.
* RankScalesWithAsskicking: The prince, and the third strongest human unit, second only to his father and brother.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething
* SemiDivine: The royal lineage was gifted a "spark" of divine essence by their god, Radgar, so that they could be the Guardians of the Blessed Lands.
* UndyingLoyalty: [[spoiler:When [[CavalryBetrayal Crown Prince Theros returns leading the Dharuk to the Blessed Lands]] and]] [[WeCanRuleTogether Dharuk Champion Gohruk Takruhg offers to let King Garamond and Prince Sorin live]] as {{Puppet King}}s in exchange for [[BringHimToMe handing over the Companions]], [[spoiler:Sorin denounces Theros as a traitor, rejecting the demand to surrender and reaffirming his loyalty to both [[AFatherToHisMen his people]] ''and'' [[HonorBeforeReason their honor]], and [[DeclarationOfProtection promises to fight for the Companions as they did for the Blessed Lands]]]].
* WarriorPrince: He personally leads his armies into battle.
* WhereAreTheyNowEpilogue: [[spoiler:Prince Sorin runs toward the castle while escorted by soldiers, and meets King Garamond at [[DueToTheDead the grave of the fallen Crown Prince Theros]]]].
* YeOldeButcheredeEnglishe: Like everyone else of his country.

!!King Garamond Eridem, the Guardian
King of the Blessed Lands, Garamond fights to protect the sovereignty of his kingdom from conquest by Morganem's armies.

* DetectEvil: Prince Sorin saw the Companions enter through the same kind of portal the Dharuk used to invade the Blessed Lands, so he brings them before his father so that the King can determine their character and intentions.
* GondorCallsForAid: He sent his son, Crown Prince Theros, to the neighboring country of Jutaria to request military reinforcements against the invading Dharuk armies. Your Companions have to HoldTheLine until Theros returns.
* TheGoodKing
* HeroUnit: He remains at the castle behind Sorin's base until [[spoiler:the Darkfire wall is brought down]], at which point [[spoiler:he and Sorin make their final charge against the Dharuk base]].
* HeroMustSurvive: His death earns you a NonstandardGameOver.
* OffingTheOffspring: Regardless of who actually does the deed, [[spoiler:King Garamond [[ItsAllMyFault takes upon himself the personal responsibility]] for the death of his son, Crown Prince Theros Eridem]].
* ThePaladin: He even uses the [[PaletteSwap white-haired]] variant Paladin model.
* RankScalesWithAsskicking: The king and the strongest human unit.
%%* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething
* SemiDivine: The royal lineage was gifted a "spark" of divine essence by their god, Radgar, so that they could be the Guardians of the Blessed Lands.
* SoProudOfYou: [[spoiler:After the defeat of the Dharuk armies and despite regretting Theros' death, he still praises Sorin for [[UndyingLoyalty remaining loyal to their duty to the Blessed Lands]]]].
* WhereAreTheyNowEpilogue: [[spoiler:King Garamond [[DueToTheDead waits at the grave of the fallen Crown Prince Theros]] for his surviving son, Prince Sorin, and the two turn to face Theros' grave]].
* YeOldeButcheredeEnglishe: Like everyone else of his country.

!!Crown Prince Theros Eridem, the Guardian
Son of King Garamond Eridem and Crown Prince of the Blessed Lands, Theros headed a military delegation to neighboring Jutaria to request aid in staving off the invading Dharuk armies of Morganem.

* CavalryBetrayal: [[spoiler:He returned with a report that Jutaria was completely destroyed, and led the Dharuk back to his country to convince his father and brother to surrender]].
* ConflictingLoyalty: [[spoiler:He rationalized his choice by prioritizing his people's survival over his country's independence]].
* DueToTheDead: [[spoiler:Even though he betrayed his people and country, his father and brother still regret his death, and are shown to visit his grave in the epilogue]].

* WolfpackBoss: [[spoiler:He's accompanied by a Dharuk Champion, a Dharuk Officer, a Void Child Malice, and a Void Child Anguish that are each more or less as strong as him, as well as a large and varied host of both human ([[HumanAliens or whatever they are]]) soldiers and Dharuk fighters]].
* YeOldeButcheredeEnglishe: Like everyone else of his country.

!!Guard Forces
The various guards and soldiers that police the inmates at Greyholm Prison.

* BigNo: The Elite Guard in the barracks, when [[OurGhoulsAreCreepier the Catacomb Dwellers]] are released and the fail-safe gateway seals the guards in with the undead.
* CatchingSomeZs: When asleep, whether [[ForcedSleep by magic]] or [[TheGuardsMustBeCrazy without a valid excuse]].
* DevelopersForesight: The ''VideoGame/{{Warcraft}} III'' engine [[ArtificialStupidity doesn't make CPU enemies smart enough to attack gates or other inanimate obstacles between melee units and ranged attackers]]; if you try to exploit this by using spells against the guards in the mess hall (immediately after Urial is sent away) [[TacticalDoorUse without destroying the gate in between you and them]], a Prison Soldier orders the gate opened to let them fight back.
--> '''Prison Soldier:''' They're attacking at range! Open the door!
* {{Golem}}s: Steel Automaton units that use the Battle[=/=]War[=/=]Siege Golem model and have [[GroundPunch an area-of-effect slowing slam]].
* TheGoomba: Compared to later enemies. They can still be hard to beat without using items or losing allied brigands.
* TheGuardsMustBeCrazy: Zig-zagged.
** The guards outside the cell containing Soul Reaver's Prison Cube were [[ForcedSleep magically put to sleep]] by Slayer and can't wake up until after Soul and the bandits recover their weapons and equipment.
** The Overseer sleeps on the job and the Prison Guards outside his office [[WeNeedADiversion follow two Rogues away from their posts without sounding the alarm]], allowing Soul Reaver an opportunity to steal the key to the weapon storage room.
** Averted by one of the Prison Captains who notices Soul Reaver approaching the mess hall - he points out that Luther ordered that Soul be locked in a [[PowerNullifier Prison]] [[TailorMadePrison Cube]], warns that this fact (and particularly Soul's escape from said Cube) proves that Soul's too dangerous an enemy for them, and immediately sends Urial ([[NominalImportance a subordinate Prison Soldier]]) to warn the barracks to mobilize and stop Soul even if[=/=]after he defeats the remaining guards.
* GuysSmashGirlsShoot: Melee-attacking Prison Guards and Soldiers are male, but Elven Archer Guards are female.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: Like the Footmen[=/=]Swordsmen on which they're based, Prison Soldiers can Defend to reduce your Rogues' and Assassins' ranged attack damage and possibly [[AttackReflector deflect your spears back at you]].
* NonstandardGameOver: At the very beginning, some Prison Guards are patrolling the hallways. If they see you before you recover your equipment, or (later) if you or your prisoner allies move into the open barracks halfway through the level, they sound the alarm and you're automatically overwhelmed by sheer numbers.

!!Karr Veriat, the Torturer
A torturer in the employ of Luther Arctus at Greyholm Prison.

* TheDragon: To Luther Arctus.
* DualWielding: Since he uses the Beastmaster[=/=]Rexxar model, he dual-wields axes.
%%* HeroUnit
* InTheHood: His cowl is another feature of his character model, but it does suit his profession.
* LovesTheSoundOfScreaming:
--> '''(His only spoken line):''' Escapees!? But [[YouShallNotPass you'll go no further]]! I'll make you SCREAM!!
* ManaBurn: One of his spells, though it may be called by a different name, like other spells in this campaign.
* PowerNullifier: His ''Burning Torment'' disables one target's spells, lowers its attack damage, and inflicts damage over time for a limited duration.
* TortureTechnician: Identified as such; an Elite Guard later opines that Karr thinks of his job as an art.
* WarmUpBoss: The first enemy HeroUnit you fight; he's a lone Level 4 Hero with no items (besides the key you need to proceed), and you're at Level 3 with up to five allied prisoners and two powerful reusable items.

!!Luther Arctus, the Prison Commander
Commander of the guards at Greyholm Prison, he initially had Hektor Bliten and Soul Reaver sealed in Prison Cubes, then holds the line as the final obstacle in their escape.

* TheAlcatraz: He runs Greyholm Prison as such. It has magic wards to prevent escape, is staffed by full-time guards including human ([[HumanAliens or equivalent]]) swordsmen, elven archers, and Steel Automaton robots, includes a safeguard that seals in [[ZombieApocalypse the Catacomb Dwellers]] (and the guards stationed at their only exit) if they are freed from their primary confinement section, and even has [[TailorMadePrison Prison Cubes]] for specific prisoners that [[PowerNullifier negate the abilities of their occupants]].
* BlackAndGrayMorality: He and his greed for power are presented as a greater evil than the crimes of his prisoners.
* BondVillainStupidity: He ends up regretting not killing Soul Reaver or Hektor Bliten when he had the chance.
* CoDragons: Karr Veriat and a Dharuk Warrior.
* FlunkyBoss: Accompanied by his subordinate prison staff, Steel Automata, and a Dharuk Warrior bodyguard, and every last enemy must be killed before [[TimeLimitBoss the last timer expires]].
* GondorCallsForAid: A villain use; one of Hektor's Assassins warns Soul Reaver that Luther has called for army reinforcements before preparing his LastStand to forestall your escape.
* HealingPotion: He carries one Potion of Healing to refill his health the first time he runs low.
%%* HeroUnit
* HoldTheLine: He tries to delay Soul Reaver and Hektor Bliten until army reinforcements arrive.
* InescapableNet: One of his spells throws an energy net around a single target, disabling its movement and attacks (but not its ability to cast spells).
* MountedCombat: He rides a horse indoors, again because of the Garithos model.
* MyGreatestFailure: While it's not a driving force for his character, he says before his BossBattle that he should have had Hektor Bliten executed, and had he recognized the danger Soul Reaver posed to Morganem, he would have let [[TortureTechnician Karr Veriat]] torture Soul to death.
* SingleUseShield: He uses one Potion of Invulnerability the second time he gets low on health.
* SummonMagic: One of his spells creates ''Spirit Guards'' either from nothing or from slain Guard Forces.
* TimeLimitBoss: The eight-minute time limit starts before you even meet him, but it's still enough time.

!!The Juggernaut
An enormous construct of infernal power sent to Heart Grove to hunt Cameron Aileron.

* AdvancingBossOfDoom: You have to destroy it before it reaches Eivahin, or [[CoupDeGraceCutscene it automatically kills him and you lose]].
* CollisionDamage: [[Administrivia/TropesAreFlexible Not exactly]], but all enemies within melee range catch fire and take damage over time until they retreat, destroy it, or die.
* ContractualBossImmunity: It [[AntiFrustrationFeatures can be Stunned despite being mechanical]], but other debuffing spells can't target it.
* EntropyAndChaosMagic: [[HandWave The reason why]] [[PlayingWithFire Cameron]] [[ElementalEmbodiment Aileron]] is ''not'' [[FeedItWithFire immune to its fiery attacks]].
* FlunkyBoss: [[OurOrcsAreDifferent Dharuk]] Warriors, [[MountedCombat Cavalry]], [[EliteMooks and]] [[BlackMage War Mages]] are constantly warped in to its location.
* MarathonBoss: 60,000 HP, and even your Ultimates will range from "only" 1,000 to 1,500 HP damage per use.
* MechanicalMonster: Without question. A towering, spike-covered tank that hurls balls of plasma, ignites groups of enemies and trees with ''[[EntropyAndChaosMagic Chaos]] [[PlayingWithFire Firestorm]]'', teleports in constant reinforcements, and is barely scratched by most attacks.
* MightyGlacier: Moves slowly, but hits hard. It helps that the ''VideoGame/{{Warcraft}} III'' engine treats moving and attacking as separate actions that no unit can do at the same time.
* WalkingWasteland: It Blights the land wherever it goes and crushes trees under its wheels.
