This character sheet comprises of pilots, battleship captains and supporting characters who are part of the Steel Dragon Battle Group and make their appearance exclusively throughout the ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration'' series.

The "Steel Dragon Battle Group" (''Kouryuu Sentai''; officially named in the ''Second Original Generation'') are the collective protagonists of ''Super Robot Wars Original Generation''. Although there are multiple characters from many different games appearing in this group, those listed here are the ones who debut exclusively in ''Original Generation'' {{Continuity}}.

[[foldercontrol]]
[[folder: In General]]
* BadassArmy: Officially they're known as the "1st Independent Special Squad" of the "[[TheFederation Earth Federation Army]]", and are comprised of the best squadrons of HumongousMecha on the planet. They have been involved in (and won) pretty much every major conflict involving Earth and nearby planets/dimensions over the past few years, and some of their numbers have been around long before even that.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: All members have their special quirks, which most of the time are ignored or go largely unnoticed, but as a fighting force they are the best of the best. Only JerkAss officals of the Earth Federation try to enforce more discipline on them.
* TheDreaded: According to [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Selena Recital]], she'd prefer not to engage the group in "[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsGaiden La]] [[BeneathTheEarth Gias]]" during the events of ''Dark Prison'', given their extensive campaign success and combat record.
* {{Leitmotif}}: Until ''[[VideoGameRemake Original Generations]]'', certain characters didn't have designated theme songs. "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGHwR8UprWs Born to Fight]]" and "Rail to the Dangerzone" were the available defaults.
* MeaningfulName: "Kouryuu" is derived from the callsigns of the ''Hagane'' ("Steel 2") and ''Hiryu Custom'' ("Dragon 3") battleships. "Steel" and "dragon" in Japanese are ''koutetsu'' and ''ryuu'', respectively, hence ''kouryuu''.
* ProperlyParanoid: In the ''Second Original Generation'', the crew of the ''Hagane'' becomes this while Ing Egret is staying with them. They have him thoroughly analyzed as to whether he is {{Brainwashed}} or a spy, but nothing comes of it. Justified as he was found in the middle of a wreckage in the Pacific Ocean.
* SeenItAll: Extraterrestrials, {{Alternate Universe}}s, ancient HumongousMecha, [[FaceHeelTurn double-crossings]], [[HeelFaceTurn former enemies-turned-allies]], {{Artificial Human}}s, {{Eldritch Abomination}}s, etc...The group has been through a lot, so it comes as no surprise almost all of them show this trope from time-to-time, particularly members who have been around since the first game. Naturally {{Lampshaded}} by newcomers.
--> (Paraphrased)
-->'''[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Arado Balanga]]''': "Wait a minute: you're saying you [[HeelFaceTurn want me to join your team]]?! We were enemies a few days ago!"
-->'''[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Ryusei Date]]''': "Eh, it's no big deal. This sort of thing has happened to us before."
* TrueCompanions: Not one of their own is ever left behind, if it can be helped.
* WeDoTheImpossible: Do you need a team to infiltrate a massive enemy space base, fight through armies of mechs, destroy powerful, never-seen-before, planet-destroying super weapons, under a ridiculous deadline, survive all that, and then fight another bunch of super-robots also attempting to destroy the world just a few minutes after that? These guys will not only get all that done, they've done it multiple times before already.

[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kai_64.png]]
[[caption-width-right:225:Gespenst MK-II]]
-> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/TadahisaSaizen
->''"I won't say that [[PowerFist one fist is enough to destroy the world]]...[[BadassNormal But it can certainly destroy you!!]]"''

The last active alumnus of the elite Aggressors, Kai is the one who serves consistently with the Earth Federation Army, while his former teammates went about their ways and assist in another capacity. A married man with a daughter, he's commonly known as a "Demon Instructor" for his nasty, but effective methods of training. He's also an acquaintance of [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsMX "Cry Wolves" commander Albero Est]]. Currently, he's training the new generation of Aggressors, starting with Latooni and Raidiese, but after ''Original Generation 2'', lets Rai go back to work with the SRX Team, while he drafts Lamia, Arado and Seolla; following the ''Second Original Generation'', he extends the same invitation to [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsMX Hugo Medio and Aqua Centrum]].

In contrast to other veterans, Kai prefers to use the good ol' fashioned mass-produced Gespensts, but is ''so'' experienced and skilled he can make it perform on par with an AceCustom. As of the ''The Moon Dwellers'', Kai uses the new mass-produced Gespenst MK II Custom that can change between 3 different frames (by default, he uses the "Type-N").
----
* AcePilot: Aside from being one of the top pilots in the military, he's one of the Aggressors (who ''invented mecha combat''), to wit Kai does all of it in a [[MechaMook lowly Gespenst]].
* AscendedExtra: Back in ''Original Generation'', Kai was just a regular military {{Face}}, of which either Ryusei or [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Kyosuke Nanbu]] ran into occasionally. Like Latooni, Kai is on the roster to fill in an absence of characters who would later appear, with Kyosuke being the field commander of the playable units even though multiple people (including Kai) outranked him. Come ''Original Generation 2'', Kai is effectively the field commander of the entire team, the only active Aggressor in combat (Gilliam is an intelligence officer usually away on his own, while Sanger and Elzam are still technically traitors) and one of the first consistently-appearing characters in the party for this game and ''Original Generation Gaiden''.
** BreakoutCharacter: Although not the bigger breakout than say, Kyosuke, alongside being established as a MemeticBadass, Kai is rendered the epitome of a pilot who can turn a {{Mook}}-level HumongousMecha into a weapon of mass destruction.
* AFatherToHisMen: By ''Original Generation Gaiden'', Kai is the one of the highest-ranking officers among the cast. As such, he takes the welfare of his soldiers VERY seriously. This attitude earns him the admiration and respect of those under his command, since they appreciate having such a hardened, professional veteran (not to mention a good man) watching out for them.
* BadassCreed: Develops one in the ''Second Original Generation'' - one of his combat dialogue when using the Gespenst is ''"Soku. Ryu. Geki"'', which translates into "[[LightningBruiser Speed]]. [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown Flow]]. [[TalkToTheFist Strike]]." If paraphrased into modern western military parlance, it roughly means "Hit fast. Hit often. Hit hard."
* BadassNormal: While there are plenty of "normal" humans on the roster, Kai stands out because he doesn't have any special abilities/enhancements, access to a SuperPrototype or exceptional luck - more importantly, he doesn't need to use a SuperRobot, let alone a fancy one-of-a-kind SuperPrototype. Just give him a [[RedshirtArmy mass-produced]] MechaMook and some basic weapons, and he's good to go.
** To elaborate, in ''Original Generation Gaiden'', he commandeers a mass-produced [[RealRobot Gespenst MK II]] and goes against a rampaging, AI-controlled "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsMX Wendigo]]" SuperRobot... using ''manual'' controls, without preset commands. [[http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/3370/ogchronicle1230.jpg Here's just a demonstration]] [[http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/498/1250016824414.jpg of what he can do]]. In the same game, he gets [[AceCustom his own customized version of the semi mass-produced Gespenst MK II with two sets of Plasma Stakes, one for each arm]]. Most people tend to forget he's a [[IKnowKarate close-quarters combat expert]].
* BadassTeacher: One of his main roles is as a trainer for new recruits, and he is very good at it, considering he's one of the guys who ''invented'' mecha combat. Even some pilots who have had experience or enhancements stand to learn something from him. Unlike most [[TheObiWan other mentor types]] however, he's still a frontline fighter, and can kick ass better than most of his students.
* ColonelBadass: Major, actually, but still fits as he's the highest ranked officer in the Battle Group's mobile forces.
* CoolOldGuy: But not ''exactly'' old; he's still in his thirties. ''Saying'' he's old, however, is his BerserkButton.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: It happens somewhat late in the first game, but Kai demolishes a number of Lions while cut off from his allies and submerged in water (thus lowering the performance of his Gespenst). A ShowDontTell moment, since it's carried out via GameplayAndStoryIntegration.
* DrillSergeantNasty, SergeantRock: He made Masaki stand straight for an hour for misconduct and put Arado through hell in the training simulator. {{Lampshaded}} in ''The Moon Dwellers'' by Kouta Azuma, who dreads being called in for a "lecture" every time.
* EliteMook: Kai's initial characterization - a powerful grunt with a PaletteSwap HumongousMecha yet extremely good at kicking ass with the tools he's got. [[DownplayedTrope Slowly phased out of him]] around ''Original Generation 2'' when he was given a secret unit of his own.
* MechaExpansionPack: The Gespenst MK II M Custom in the ''Second Original Generation'' can interchange between equipment types. Katina Tarask and Russel Bergman's machines share this ability, too.
* JackOfAllStats: Only in the first game; his late appearance in Ryusei's route didn't help the case.
** LightningBruiser: Rectified in the sequel and ''Original Generations''. As the middle man of the Aggresors, Kai also has the "Genius" pilot skill and good evasion stats compared to Elzam and Gilliam, with a high defense stat like Sanger's. Unlike his peers, Kai's melee and ranged stats are balanced. Instead, his specialty is to deal high damage in the shortest amount of time, thanks to starting the game with the "Attacker" pilot skill[[note]]At 130 Will, increase damage dealt by all attacks by 20%[[/note]] and later learning the "Drive" Spirit Command[[note]]+30 to Will[[/note]]. Finally, Kai is one of the few characters with access to the "Soul" Spirit Command [[note]]Deal 2.5 times the damage for the next attack[[/note]].
* {{Leitmotif}}: "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOxINwtkUzk&feature=related Rushing Dandy]]"
* SwissArmyGun: The Type-N's "[=F2W=] Folding Cannon" fires normal beam rounds, but can extend the barrel to fire a WaveMotionGun.
* TeamDad: For the new Aggressors or even his fellow alumni.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: In ''Original Generation Gaiden'', Donna Gallagher thinks she can take Kai's students hostage, assault the military base, and have the Wendigo completely overwhelm Kai while he's using an obsolete machine. Bad idea...

[[caption-width-right:225:Wildraubtier Schnabel and Fairlion-S]]
-> '''Voiced by:''' Riko Hirai

Latooni Subota is one of the "Boosted Children" of the "The School", a Federation-funded academy that trained children to become HumongousMecha pilots. Unfortunately, as the technology was still in its infancy, many were mentally and physically conditioned to handle the stress of piloting. It was so harsh that by the time advances rendered the program obsolete, only three students survived: Latooni was ''not'' one of them. During a routine training mission, she was lost in a crash and deemed "killed-in-action" by The School. However, Latooni was found by two Federation fighter pilots, [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationOthersAndWalkingSpoilers Giado Venerdi and Garnet Sandi]], who took her to a hospital and, unable to find any identification other than her designation "Latooni-11", effectively raised her as their daughter and gave her a surname ([[TemporalThemeNaming "Subota" is Russian for "saturday", which falls between "venerdi" (friday) and "sandi" (sunday)]]). Despite being a child, she's allowed to become a fighter pilot, even placed in the same squad as Giado and Garnet. The rather shy and withdrawn girl responds only to them, but her skills as a pilot more than make up for it.

When assigned to the ''Hagane'' battleship, Latooni meets the Ryusei of the "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha SRX Team]]". Being around the AscendedFanboy considerably opens up her personality and loosens her reservations, including a wardrobe change, courtesy of Garnet. Sporting [[Main/ElegantGothicLolita a really cute, frilly dress]], she's complemented by many of the crew, furthering her CharacterDevelopment. After the "[[CivilWar Divine Crusaders War]]", "[[Main/TheRemnant Divine Crusaders Remnants]]" attempt to seize the Dukedom of Riksent. Assigned to protect the nation's headstrong [[MySignificanceSenseIsTingling and clairvoyent]] Princess Shine Hausen, Latooni is given the role as a bodyguard. However, the princess is kidnapped by a Federation traitor and taken to [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationAntagonists Adler Koch]], a MadScientist who happens to be the former head instructor at The School. With the help of her allies, Latooni saves her new friend, and permanently rids the world of a big source of her early misery. Following the L5 Campaign, Latooni vows to find the rest of the Boosted Children.

In the sequel, Latooni is working alongside Raidiese and Kai as part of the reformed Aggressors. While testing the new Wild Falken, they are attacked by Divine Crusader Remnants and they [[GrandTheftPrototype steal the machine]]. To her horror, Latooni discovers [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Arado Balanga and Seolla Schweizer]], her former Schoolmates and close friends, are aligned with the Remnants, including their mutual CoolBigSis [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationAntagonists Ouka Nagisa]]. Worse, they are under the influence of [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationAntagonists Agilla Setme]], another ex-School instructor [[MadScientist with a penchant]] [[MindManipulation for brainwashing]]. By ''Original Generation Gaiden'', she still continues to serve on the Aggressors, now accompanied by Arado, Seolla and ex-[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAdvance Shadow-Mirror operative Lamia Loveless]].

During the onset of the "Sealing War" in the ''Second Original Generation'', Latooni discovers more Boosted Children survived The School than she thought. However, [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationAntagonists Chienne, Chien and Chiot]] are not as willing to reform like Arado and Seolla and turn from their new "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationAntagonists Gaia Sabers]]" employer. Although she pities their delusions of being the greatest there is, Latooni is forced to kill them. At the end of the game, Princess Shine offers her a small job of being an IdolSinger for ceremonial purposes in Riksent.

Latooni originally used a generic fighter jet, but is quickly switched out to a spare Gespenst aboard the ''Hagane'' as soon as it's available. In ''Original Generations'', she ends up in Ryusei's hand-me-down "Wildraubtier"[[note]]To reflect what wasn't mandated by plot in the original release of the first game, but what virtually everyone did by the end-game[[/note]]. When Riksent is attacked by the "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationAntagonists Neo Divine Crusaders]]" in ''Original Generation 2'', Princess Shine unveils the "Fairlions", a pair of ceremonial mecha she personally commissioned, giving Latooni the Fairlion-S(ilver) to use as her personal unit. By the ''Second Original Generation'', the old Wildraubtier is retooled into the new "Wildraubtier Schnabel", though she can use the Schnabel and Fairlion-S interchangeably.
----
* AceCustom: Fairlion-S and Wildraubtier Schnabel
* AmbiguouslyBi: While she generally seems very committed to Ryusei and doesn't really have eyes for anyone else, there's a fair bit of "suggestive" content with Shine (see her entry). That said, the tone is very different from her flat-out, textbook affection for Ryusei and is mostly limited to subtext, thus it's hard to say definitively.
* BadassAdorable [[ElegantGothicLolita Gothic Lolita]]
** The "gothic" part's been {{Retcon}}ned due to ''Original Generations''. To date, Latooni's only worn the outfit when piloting twice. She still wears it off-duty, though.
** The ''Second Original Generation'' takes this to new heights: when executing its CombinationAttack, the Fairlion-S will ''switch out her uniform for the outfit'', then switch back afterwards. It seems a sense of fashion is a crucial part of the attack.
* BeautifulAllAlong: To the point her ''adoptive parents'' briefly have trouble recognizing her.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: The biggest reason she's attracted to Ryusei is that he got angry on her behalf when Tenzan was belittling her as a former member of The School, calling her a failed experiement.
* BreakTheCutie: Until she escapes The School, but even then, boatloads of this re-occurs as School instructors and surviving Boosted Children re-appear in her life.
* ChestBlaster: Fairlion's "Vostok Laser".
* CombinationAttack, DancingTheme: "Royal Heart Breaker".
* {{Deuteragonist}}: In ''Original Generation 2'', Latooni can be considered this (co-sharing with Arado) due to The School story-line being the one with the most focus next to the ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Super Robot Wars Impact]]'' plot.
* DistaffCounterpart
** Loosely to [[Anime/SuperDimensionFortressMacross Maxmillian Jenius/Sterling]], in order to fill the playable roster in the first game[[note]]Both characters fly [[TransformingMecha transformable fighter planes]], wear glasses, have exotic-colored hair, very good stats and growths (particularly evasion), yet socially distant from their teammates before opening up[[/note]]. As CharacterizationMarchesOn, this trope becomes less evident; the ''Second Original Generation'' brings this back a bit, if only because the Wildrauptier Schnabel's strongest attack literally looks like it's lifted frame-for-frame from one of Maximillian's maneuvers in ''Anime/SuperDimensionFortressMacross'', straight down to flipping between fighter plane and humanoid mode to stay on her target.
** Somewhat less obvious are parallels to [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Kamille Bidan]]: both characters despise conflict and desire some semblance of a peaceful life, are mechanical designers in their spare time and close to women who are forced into a machine that drives them mad; furthermore, the Wildraubtier is the [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Zeta Gundam]] with the SerialNumbersFiledOff. The primary difference between them are their personalities: while Kamille is [[BerserkButton very open]] about his distate for {{war|IsHell}}, Latooni isn't quite "screaming mad" about it.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: The scene in ''Original Generation Gaiden'' where she helps Ryusei devise a CombinationAttack with his teammate [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Mai Kobaysahi]] carries undertones of IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy.
* DualWielding: Wildraubtier Schnabel carries a pair of "Blade Sai".
* FatalAttractor: Everyone near her always gets into bad situations - [[spoiler:her School friends die, Shine gets plugged into the "GEIM System" BrainwashedAndCrazy, Seolla gets placed with lots of memory modifications and attacks Latooni and Arado, Rai goes NotSoStoic when facing Archibald and almost gets killed, Ouka pulls a HeroicSacrifice and Lamia nearly gets KilledOffForReal from the "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationAntagonists ODE System]]". Despite his short time with her, [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsMX Hugo Medio]] getting absorbed into the Medius Locus and considered killed-in-action also counts]].
* FragileSpeedster: The Fairlion is extremely fragile, as in "generic fighter jet"-fragile[[note]]Justified since it's an "[[AMechByAnyOtherName Armored Module]]", which are derived from fighter jets[[/note]]. However, this is offset by the machine armed with a "Missile Jammer"[[note]]Gain a 50% chance of evading missile-based attacks[[/note]], a "Beam Coat" barrier[[note]]Reduce beam-based attacks by 1200 points of damage[[/note]] and can activate "Mirror Image"[[note]]At 130 Will, gain a 50% chance of evading any attack[[/note]]. Its "Full Upgrade Bonus" is a 20% increase to mobility, and in Latooni's hands (coupled with her having the "Genius" pilot skill), most enemies wouldn't be able to hit the machine.
* TheGlassesGottaGo: Played straight in the original game, then subverted when ''Original Generations'' {{Retcon}}ned it.
* GotMeDoingIt: Due to Ryusei's {{Otaku}}ness, putting her into other mecha will result in her CallingYourAttacks, often with a dash of HotBlooded; at present, this has leaked into her attacks for her default mecha. An invoked subversion, however - by ''The Moon Dwellers'', Latooni's doing it on purpose.
* HeroWorshipper: Of Ryusei, but in her case, it's more of a flat-out crush.
* IconicSequelCharacter[=/=]SeriesMascot: Although far from the first original character made by Banpresto, Latooni was just an "extra" character to fill in a gap left by the lack of licensed characters. Her contribution to the first game amounts to a single scene in one particular route players aren't required to follow, with no unique unit or dedicated {{Leitmotif}}. Nearly a decade later, she has two {{Ace Custom}}s to her name, two {{Leitmotif}}s, one of the most famous attacks in franchise history, and arguably the poster child for the OriginalGeneration concept. While not as franchise-defining as [[Characters/MasouKishin Masaki Andoh]], Ryusei, Kusuha or Sanger, Latooni's instantly recognizable to [=SRW=] fans.
* {{Leitmotif}}: Notably has two - her personal theme, "Brass Sincerity", and "Fairy Dang-Sing" (localized as "Fairy Dancing") when using the Fairlion.
* MidSeasonUpgrade: Goes through a fair number of these. In the first game/''Divine Wars'', he started in a jet fighter before getting assigned to a Mass-Produced Gespenst, then gets the Wildraubtier when Ryusei upgrades to the R-1. In the second game/''Inspector'', she gets the Fairlion. In ''Gaia Savers'', the Wildraubtier gets an upgrade that puts it more in line with the Wildfalken and Wildwurger so she can use it when not protecting Princess Shine.
* NerdGlasses: Before her major CharacterDevelopment, she wore these; following that, she switches to a pair of glasses.
* RedOniBlueOni: She's the purple (in place of blue) while Shine's red.
* ShoutOut: The Fairlions, Royal Heart Breaker, "W-INK System" and "Fairy Dancing" theme are tributes to the ''Wink'' Japanese idol duo. To further the shout, the ''Second Orginal Generation'' animation for the Royal Heart Breaker transforms her into a MagicIdolSinger.
* ShrinkingViolet: Pre-CharacterDevelopment
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Perhaps the worst offender of all originals. Her name's always given in ''Cyrillic'' when spelled out in official sources (which does confirm her Russian heritage, at least). The given name is "латунь суббота", which causes another problem since it's MISSING A SYLLABLE (specifically the "i") and is therefore inconsistent with the katakana given. As a result, a number of players have taken to calling her "Latune" (an actual Russian word, as noted below), but many still call her "Latooni" out of inertia and the better katakana match. (The Russian word is actually pronounced with a very soft, barely spoken "ny" sound at the end - so neither side is ''quite'' correct, but those that spell it as "Latune" ''are'' closer).
* TemptingFate: Played for laughs, But in her debut chapter, Garnet asks her if she didn't want to die before falling in love. Latooni says she's not interested. Cue Ryuusei, who would be her one-sided crush for most of the OG saga.
* ThemeNaming: The Boosted Children classes are all named after metals. "Latune" ("Latooni" is an improper romanization/katakana interpretation) [[MeaningfulName means "brass" in Russian]].
** Their mechs also all happen to have the word "Wild" followed by the name of a bird of prey. The funny part being that Latooni's machine was built nearly a year before Arado and Seollas', and as part of an entirely separate project.
* TokenMiniMoe: She was 14 years-old during the first ''Original Generation'' and arguably the poster girl of the trope for this {{Continuity}}.
* TransformingMecha: Wildraubtier (Schnabel)

[[caption-width-right:225:Gespenst MK-II]]
-> '''Voiced by:''' Asami Yaguchi
-->''"I'll show you the harsh realities of war!"''

A fighter pilot assigned to the ''Hiryu Custom'' battleship, Katina acquires Kyosuke's old Gespenst MK II (and painted it red) after he receives his Alt Eisen. She has two sides to her personality: (excited) angry and REALLY angry. She tends to display an inferiority complex about her piloting skill whenever anyone else is chosen to pilot a unique mecha. Although she winds up using the "[[TransformingMecha R-Gun]]", she switches back to her good ol' Gespenst by ''Original Generation 2''. Unlike most characters, Katina is one of the more easily-suspicious people among the crews: if the others gladly welcome someone who pulled a HeelFaceTurn, she'll likely be the first to say "Hey, think twice! He/she was an enemy! What if...", only to be rebuked back and she usually accepts them again. She leads the "Octo Squad", originally consisting of herself and subordinate Russel, but drafts [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Tasuku Shinguji and Leona Garstein]] by ''Original Generation 2''.

While most players believe she's a completely original character for the games, Katina made her debut from an earlier [=SRW=] [[CardGames trading card game]] with different settings: [[http://i.imgur.com/QNvvNc2.jpg she was a sniper in the Divine Crusaders]] who piloted a [[Anime/MazingerZ Jenoba M9]] and [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Gabthley]]. She was also associated with the monstrous "[[http://srwog.velv.net/og_mecha/gabl.html GAB-L]]", which is said to have claws filling up NightmareFuel a lot. This is understandable, seeing as [[Anime/MazingerZ Dr. Hell]] built it. As of ''The Moon Dwellers'', Katina uses the [[http://www.famitsu.com/news/201105/images/00043749/GU146hyYp6778G4ajTv7s9yAcoU9z77X.jpg Gespenst MK II M Custom]]; like Kai and Russel's versions, it can change into different frames (by default, she uses the "Type-G").
----
* AgeLift: In the original card game, Katina was stated to be eighteen years of age. In the OG games, she's in her mid-twenties.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Players are likely to forget she was designed to be a sniper or she used to pilot something like the GAB-L. Currently, Katina's more known for her melee-based stats and crazed HotBlooded personality, who's usually stuck with common Gespenst units. She also was originally a member of the Divine Crusaders rather than a loyal Federation soldier.
* ChestBlaster: Type-G's "Mega Blaster Cannon"
* ColdSniper: Subverted without being a FriendlySniper, either. Back in the first game, her stats favor ranged attacks, but she's crazy HotBlooded. The sequels averts this by shifting her stats towards melee. By Moon Dwellers, her stats have returned to a ranged focus.
* DislikesTheNewGuy: She's the most likely to be suspicious of anyone who switches to her side.
* DrillSergeantNasty: Moreso towards Tasuku and Arado. Also mixes this with SergeantRock.
* GlassCannon: In ''Original Generation'', she gets the "Valor" Spirit Command[[note]]Deal twice the damage for the next attack[[/note]] early in the game; beginning with ''Original Generations'', she gets access to the more powerful "Soul". Unfortunately, her defense is shoddy and horrible, alongside extremely poor Will gains.
* HotBlooded: Both in personality and in gameplay terms, having one of the cheapest "Valor" to cast. In the ''Second Original Generation'', she gains access to "Soul" instead.
* {{Leitmotif}}: "TA.CO.NA.GU.RI"; translated into English as "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euIdHMrNvHQ Octo H-I-T!]]".
* LightningBruiser: Played with - she has one of the worst evasion stats on the roster until she reaches a certain level, the trick being getting her ''to'' survive until that point. One way is to switch her into a SuperRobot, such as the "Giganscudo"; since the Gigan is a monster of a tank, her low evasion stat becomes irrelevant. With the ''Second Original Generation'', her natural "Counter"[[note]]Pilot has a chance to perform a counterattack first when targeted by an enemy[[/note]] pilot skill plus a decent skill stat growth allows her to be on the front lines quite easily.
* MaamShock: There are times she's been mistaken as an old hag, probably due to her overbearing presence as well as her rather coarse voice. Katina ''never'' reacts well to it.
* MechaExpansionPack: For her Gespenst MK II M Custom in the ''Second Original Generation''.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: How to tell the situation is tense or serious: See if Katina is not being her ill-tempered HotBlooded self. There are only two occasions in this: [[spoiler:During Daitetsu's funeral, Katina tried to tell the others to chin up and stop crying... only to ''cry'' herself. And later, in ''Gaiden'', when the whole party was down after realizing Lamia was alive but BrainwashedAndCrazy, Katina had a personal talk with Kyosuke in an attempt to lift his spirit and steel himself for whatever path he has to take in response, without ever raising her voice or showing her ill temper.]]
* RunningGag: Always getting passed over for a chance to pilot whichever fancy new machine the ''Hiryu Custom'' crew get a hold of. Also [[DislikesTheNewGuy being suspicious for someone who just switches sides.]]
* SergeantRock: Katina may have temper issues, but she's the leader of the Octo Squad. In fact, she's one of the few characters in the ''Second Original Generation'' who can initiate a "[[AttackPatternAlpha Maximum Break]]" (the others being the more reserved commanders like Kyosuke, Kai and [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Viletta Vadim]]).
* ShockAndAwe: Type-G's "Jet Magnum" and "Jet Phantom"
* TransformingMecha: In the card games, where she had a Gabthley.
* {{Tsundere}}: Played with and subverted; yes, Katina has an anger issue, and though one might expect she has a sensitive side, the latter is non-existant - she's a 24/7 short-tempered, hardass woman - a "tsun" without the "dere", anytime someone suspects that she might be showing a "dere" side (especially Tasuku), like if she congratulates someone for a good job or giving them a present, she'd snap back furiously if that suspicion mentioned. However, it's implied [[SergeantRock her attitude still earns her respect from her allies and subordinates]].
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Katina is revulsed by the various {{Mook}}s from the "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationAntagonists Garden of Baral]]" in the ''Second Original Generation'', with their grotesque, misshapen forms giving her pause.

Katina's loyal (some would say devoted) subordinate, Russel's rather unremarkable in most repects otherwise, save for a very high defense stat and DivingSave abilities in-game that make him an excellent meat...err, "metal" shield. Where Katina goes, so will Russel.

The actual extent of their relationship is so low-key, it's rather hard to tell ''where'' it is. Both seem to think highly of each other (and often worry about how the other feels about their performance in combat), but show none of the usual UnresolvedSexualTension, problems or affection any of the other overt couples have. At the very least, they're close friends (whether they realize it or not) who have become completely comfortable with each other.
----
* AceCustom: Like Kai and Katina, Russel's pilots the Gespenst MK II M Custom, which uses 3 different frames for the ''Second Original Generation'' and its sequels. By default, he uses the "Type-C".
** CompositeCharacter: The Type-C is really a Gespenst MK II outfitted with the Schultzwald's weaponry.
* BoringButPractical: Despite lacking "Valor", Russel is one of the most useful pilots in the games thanks to having useful support-based Spirit Commands like "Rouse"[[note]]Increase adjacent ally's Will by 10[[/note]], "Cheer"[[note]]Earn double the amount of experience points for the next combat phase for any ally[[/note]] and "Faith"[[note]]Restore all HP to any ally[[/note]] for extremely cheap, alongside a high Spirit Point pool. Coupled with his natural ability to "Support Attack"[[note]]Provide offensive support to an adjacent ally[[/note]] and "Support Defend"[[note]]Provide defensive support to an adjacent ally[[/note]], this makes him one of the best pilots for the Valsion Custom back in the first game.
* CovertPervert: As much as a generic person he is, Russel has enough eye reflexes to notice that [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha2 Seolla Schweitzer]] wears teddy bear panties underneath her clothings. Even Katina teases him for it despite his denial.
* TheGenericGuy: Quite possibly the most "normal" person in all of ''Original Generation'' without being a FlatCharacter. Additionally, Russel is the only original character (sub-pilots excluded) who doesn't have a personal {{Leitmotif}}. Ironically, this makes him ''stand out'' to many fans.
** In fact, he gets along with [[Characters/MasouKishin Gennacy I. Kozireh]] because of this status.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: He actually slaps Katina once after she gets too hotheaded... ''even for her''.
* KillSat: Oddly enough, the requirements for the new secret equippable weapon "Free Electron Cannon" in the ''Second Original Generation'' are related to him.
* {{Leitmotif}}: Averted; Russel's the only playable character without a designated theme song.
* MechaExpansionPack: For his Gespenst MK M II Custom in the ''Second Original Generation''.
* MyNaymeIs: Although [[http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Russel not entirely made up]], his name's more typically spelled with two "l's".
* {{Nerf}}: Russel in the first game is extremely good as a tanker, to the point of approaching GameBreaker levels, thanks to having "SP Up"[[note]]Increase maximum Spirit Points by 3 per level (maximum level 9)[[/note]] and "Support Defend" as starting pilot skills. In the sequels, he loses "SP Up", and subsequent games no longer become kind to characters designated as tankers.
* TakingTheBullet: Pretty much his stock in trade, game-wise. In fact, a trophy {{Lampshades}} this in the ''Second Original Generation'' entitled "The Man They Call A Fortress", which requires Russel to defend an ally four times in one turn. Back in the first ''Original Generation'' game, Russel pulled this for Katina (in addition to [[GetAHoldOfYourselfMan slapping her for being hot-headed]]) because she started getting reckless.
* OnlySaneMan: He appears like this at first, yet looking at Russel's devotion to Katina and one can't help but wonder just ''how'' sane he actually is.
* {{Shoulder Cannon}}s: Type-C's "Twin Beam Cannons"
* ShoutOut: Based on his appearance, one can argue Russel's meant to be an AffectionateParody of [[{{Mooks}} unnamed grunts]] in the {{Mecha}} genre that [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TA-QJ2d3kk get one line and die horribly afterwards]], except Russel's averted death so far.
* StoneWall: Russel's defense stat is the best in the games.
* SubordinateExcuse
** [[WildMassGuessing Kinda... sorta... maybe...]] whatever.
** It's surprising when considering the usual fan reaction to relationships like this, but very few players truly ship Russel and Katina, perhaps because it's more funny the way it currently is.
* WhatExactlyIsHisJob: Aside from being TheLancer to Katina full-time, he sometimes doubles as her personal assistant, sparring partner, [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/russel_drinkcarrier.jpg drink carrier]], TheSmartGuy (with his knowledge of Stonehenge in ''Original Generation 2'' being an example), TheBigGuy (visually, he at least appears the tallest out of the Octo Squad) and TheQuietOne).

-> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/TetsuInada
-->''"Dash, Trombe!"''

The [[HeterosexualLifePartners lifetime partner]] of [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlphaGaiden Sanger Zonvolt]], Elzam von Branstein is the AloofBigBrother of [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Raidiese F. Branstein]]. He hails from the esteemed Branstein family, HappilyMarried and a SupremeChef. Elzam debuts in ''Original Generation'', but it's filled with a GoodBadBug: due to programming errors, priority for his {{Leitmotif}} was given the highest, thus it always overrides any song, even the FinalBoss. Banpresto took it as a RunningGag and incorporated this "bug" into subsequent games. Although Elzam's one of the headlining generals of the "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationAntagonists Divine Crusaders]]", with the death of [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsClassic Bian Zoldark]], he secretly aids the Earth Federation Army to fight against the invading ""[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationAntagonists Aerogaters]]". Following the end of the "L5 Campaign", the Earth Federation Army's offensive at defeating the Aerogaters, he and his crew of the battleship ''Kurogane'' vanishes.

Elzam reappears in the sequel, now sporting a [[PaperThinDisguise pair of glasses, calling himself "Ratsel Feinschmecker"]] (erroneously translated by [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsClassic Inspector Vigagi]] as "Mysterious Gourmet"). Once again, he and the ''Kurogane'' crew operate and support the Earth Federation Army in secret. To prove "[[MemeticMutation Real Men Ride Each Other]]", Ratsel's new MidSeasonUpgrade received when liberating the Tesla-Leicht Institute can ''[[TransformingMecha turn into a horse]]'' and have Sanger's own MidSeasonUpgrade mount it (no, '''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGTlE8w5r_A REALLY]]''').

His debut in ''Original Generation'' was popular enough to warrant him a place in the ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha'' series, as his Ratsel persona (which is ''also'' the persona's debut), though he did exist in the background of ''Alpha'' and the earlier, yet obscure ''VideoGame/SuperRobotSpirits''. Still, his first on-screen appearance is in ''Original Generation'', thus he's placed in this category.

Elzam pilots a variety of machines, such as a Guarlion and Huckebein MK III, all painted with black/red/gold colors and called "Trombe", after his black stallion. His definitive mecha is the Dynamic General Guardian "Aussenseiter" ([[GratuitousGerman German for "outsider"]], or less literally, "[[EnsembleDarkhorse dark]] [[IncrediblyLamePun horse]]"). He embodies these tropes:
----------
* AcePilot: A former member of the "Aggressors" (including him, Sanger, Kai Kitamura and [[Characters/CompatiHeroSeries Gilliam Yeager]]), a group that had the first use of a HumongousMecha InUniverse. To date, Elzam is still one of the best pilots in the world. Even without upgrading his units, by skill and stats alone he dodges like crazy, has high accuracy and critical ratings, can move farther, shoot further, and hit harder than most other pilots. And that's not even getting to his CombinationAttack with his best friend, which is usually the second most powerful attack in the games he appears in.
* AceCustom
** A Huckebein MK II, Huckebein MK III and a Guarlion Custom, all of them following his [[LawOfChromaticSuperiority black/red/gold coloring motif]]. Although specially designed by Bian for him to use, the Aussenseiter qualifies more as a SuperPrototype.
** Exclusively in ''The Inspectors'', the AnimatedAdaptation of ''Original Generation 2'', Ratsel uses the "[=GuarBein=]" MK III (basically a Huckebein MK III outfitted with parts from his old Guarlion Custom) before receiving the Aussenseiter.
* AFatherToHisMen: He even cooks for them. As a result, the crew of the ''Kurogane'' is fiercely loyal to him.
* AlmightyJanitor: Despite having been generals, owning their own battleship, and being two of the best and most experienced pilots in the fleet, Ratsel and Sanger cannot officially assume any leadership roles due to their status as rebels and outlaws. They graciously pass field command to the likes of Kyosuke, but will frequently attend high level meetings to discuss strategy with the other officers.
* AloofBigBrother
** As Elzam, he's very good at concealing his emotions, which causes his brother to misunderstand him. His Ratsel persona drops this trope, to the point of being goofy.
** It's possible he adopted the "Ratsel" personality as a means to move away from this trope.
* ArchEnemy: [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationAntagonists Archibald Grims]] for Ratsel
* ArtEvolution: Evident in the CoolShades he wears as Ratsel - while they were oblong in the games, they become hexagonal in ''[[AnimatedAdaptation The Inspectors]]''.
* BadassCape: Aussenseiter has one; in the "Sturm Angriff" attack for ''[[VideoGameRemake Original Generations]]'', the cape is thrown at an enemy to conceal its vision before being blasted to shreds. During the "Earth Cradle" event in ''The Inspectors'', the cape is used as an AttackReflector.
* BashBrothers: It's a good idea to be part of the good guys' side just to avoid opposing Ratsel and Sanger. Enemies are unlikely to survive their CombinationAttack.
* BGMOverride[=/=] MusicalisInterruptus
** His trademark; in fact, the ''Second Original Generation'' makes it clear players ''cannot change his default BGM to anything else''. However, the games {{Downplayed|Trope}} this as Ratsel is unable to override certain {{Leitmotif}}s such as "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsDestiny Despair]]", "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Twin Icon]]" and "[[spoiler:Ultra One]]", as well as the orchestrated version of "Destinies" [[spoiler:and the vocal versions of "Victory", "Skill" and "Wings of the Legend"]].
** Amusingly, the first music track Ratsel was unable to override was because an enemy from the {{Anime}} ''Anime/GoShogun'' was playing "The Blue Danube" [[GameplayAndStoryIntegration with gigantic external speakers mounted on the ship]].
* BigDamnHeroes: His debut as Ratsel is basically doing this to the "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha2 Project Terrestial Dream]]" crew in ''Original Generation 2''; he also did this earlier in ''Alpha 2'' for whomever is the protagonist in Scenario 31.
* CanonImmigrant: From ''Original Generation'' to ''Alpha''. Interestingly, he exists (sort of) before ''Original Generation'', appearing in [[AllThereInTheManual supplemental materials]] to ''Super Hero Sakusen'' ("Super Hero Operations"). While not directly named, Raidiese recognizes the emblem on a passing-by black mecha as the Branstein family crest. The same applies to the Aussenseiter - it does not appear in ''Alpha 2'', but winds up as Ratsel's machine for the ''Alpha 3'' finale.
* CaptainErsatz: The ''Kurogane'' to the "[[Film/{{Atragon}} Gotengo]]"; naturally, the character himself was created to fill one of the obvious casting holes in the first game (see below).
* ChefOfIron: A master cook ''and'' one of the best pilots in the fleet.
* CombinationAttack: ''Tatsumaki Zankantou'' ("Tornado Battleship-Cleaving Blade")
* CoolHorse: His black stallion Trombe back on his home colony of "Elpis".
* DemotedToExtra: ... Sort of. When he appeared as a GuestFighter for ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars30'' (in particular his ''Alpha'' self), Ratsel ends up being transported right in the middle of testing the Pferd mode of his Aussenseiter and thus it's locked in that mode and they're stuck as the permanent mount of Sanger's Dygenguar. While he still happily gives his assistance for his friend and fights with all his might, that means he cannot shoot enemies down with Aussenseiter and he's reduced to an extra Spirit Command pool for Sanger.
* DueToTheDead: Temporarily shelves his Ratsel persona (by removing his shades, no less) during [[spoiler:Captain Daitetsu Minase's funeral]].
* FriendlySniper: In contrast to his up-close-and-personal best friend, Ratsel's attacks typically involve long-range shooting that don't miss. Also in contrast to his best friend, Ratsel is far more personable and charismatic.
* GratuitousGerman: All of the Aussenseiter's attacks are named in German
* GunsAkimbo: Aussenseiter's DualWielding "Lanze Kanone" {{BFG}}s
* TheGunslinger: Switches between "The Vaporizer" and the "The Woo", especially in the ''Second Original Generation''. Little bits of GunKata are also thrown in.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Bordering on HoYay; the fact he spends so much time with Sanger has caused this to be a RunningGag among fans. [[spoiler:The end credits of episode 15 in ''The Inspectors'' feature him wearing a '''Speedo''']].
* ICallItVera: Any machine he uses are always designated by him as "Trombe", ''including the [[CoolShip Kurogane]]'', which is the name of his favorite horse.
* KillTheOnesYouLove, ShootTheDog: When [[spoiler:his wife [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationOthersAndWalkingSpoilers Cattleya Fujiwara-Branstein]]]] was held hostage in a hangar bay on Elpis being pumped with poison gas, the terrorist Archibald Grims threatened to gas the rest of Elpis. Elzam was urged [[spoiler:by Cattleya]] to destroy the hangar bay to prevent the gas from seeping into the rest of the colony. He complied.
* {{Leitmotif}}: Most characters have this, but "Trombe!" has reached memetic status due to a bug that causes it to override boss themes.
* LightningBruiser: Elzam carries the defensive stats of a super robot pilot, evasion stat of a real robot pilot and a well-balanced offensive stat tailored to ranged attacks. Coupled with the "Genius" pilot skill[[note]]+20 to accuracy and evasion stats and critical hit rate automatically[[/note]], and his Huckebein MK II "Trombe", Elzam becomes one of the best real robot pilots in the first game. Further augmented in the sequel when he receives the Aussenseiter, which comes with high attack power and armor, alongside mobility that most supers don't usually have and his "Ace Bonus"[[note]]When Ratsel achieves 50 kills or more, +10% to ranged stat[[/note]].
* MechanicalHorse: Aussenseiter's "Pferd Mode"
* PaperThinDisguise: No one knows why he insists on doing this, though the going theory is it's [[TheAtoner his way of turning over a new leaf]]. Everybody goes along with it since it's easier to play dumb than it is to explain why a former (and infamous) Divine Crusaders general is working with them.
** StartingANewLife: It seems he's not trying to hide ''who'' he is, rather he's trying to project a new image for himself. Elzam had a reputation for being aloof and hard to read, but as "Ratsel", he's much more approachable.
* RealMenWearPink: Even with a bare minimum of ingredients, [[RealMenCook Ratsel can still churn out a world-class gourmet feast]].
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Subverted; began as a villain, but [[NobleDemon he's squarely built on original intentions of Bian's Divine Crusaders]]. When he pulls a HeelFaceTurn, he disappears soon afterwards, only to he reappear as Ratsel, gets the Aussenseiter, [[BunnyEarsLawyer but occasionally winds up playing exceptionally goofy that his brother considers it an embarrassment]].
* SupremeChef: Doubling with ChefOfIron, he's one of the few to be immune to the GargleBlaster made by [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Kusuha Mizuha]], going so far as to ''identify every ingredient'' in the dreaded drink. He also cooks gourmet meals for his men with whatever ingredients are on hand.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: When Kusuha tried to out him as a relative to Raidiese, Ratsel answered that he's definitely not Raidiese's ''older brother''... before Kusuha could even specify the relationship.
* ATasteOfPower: In the prologue scenario of the first ''Original Generation'' game for Ryusei's route
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Ratsel delivered a rather scathing one to Sleigh on why she didn't get chosen by her dear brother for the main pilot of Project TD's main unit (first Astelion and eventually Altairlion), considering how he's a close friend of Filio: Because Sleigh is too fixated to be the number one. While Ratsel probably just wanted to make sure the direction of Project TD went as Filio envisioned, he had a rather bad timing; Sleigh just beat up Ibis, but Ibis didn't seem to mind, only telling her to go back to Project TD as usual and Sleigh was actually contemplating a HeelRealization. [[NiceJobBreakingItHero This ends up with]] [[ThenLetMeBeEvil Sleigh snapping and deciding that she'll go rogue and join the Neo DC as her way to save Filio.]]
* ThemeMusicPowerUp
** "Trombe!" overrides all...except maybe [[Anime/GoShogun Bundol's]] "Blue Danube"
** Banpresto seems to be getting a little tired of the glitch as well. "Free Battle Mode" in ''Original Generation Gaiden'' allows players to force [=BGMs=] on battles, meaning they have the power to (finally) override "Trombe".
* ThrowingYourShieldAlwaysWorks: Aussenseiter's "Schulterplatte"

-->"''If I'm with the Flickerei, I can do it.''"

Female protagonist of ''Real Robot Regiment'', Ariel Org is "Subject Zero", the first of the ArtificialHuman-based "Idealants Project". In her game of origin, she is tasked by her dying creator Dr. Enzo Ozunu to pilot the Flickerei Geist and stop her "brother" Duvan Org, the second Idealant created by the project, after he destroys Ozunu's lab. Ariel allies with the "[[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing Preventers]]" to pursue Duvan, but also learns to express herself, as she believes she lacks the emotional capabilities of a human. When Ariel defeats Duvan and his transformed Alles Geist, the machines disappear in a brilliant flash of light. While everyone comments Ariel is likely dead, she manages to escape to the Guyana Highlands and lives the rest of her remaining life in memory of her brother.

In the ''Second Original Generation'', Ariel begins as a member of the Gaia Sabers along with Duvan, but after being told by Professor Eric Wong regarding the Idealants Project, alongside questioning the Gaia Sabers' motives, she flees with the Flickerei Geist with some help from Professor Wong. Seeing another display of the Gaia Sabers' methodology, she immediately defects to the Steel Dragon Battle Group. At the end of the game, Ariel is invited to join the ATX Team.

Ariel pilots the Flickerei Geist, a machine made from parts of the Gespenst MK III and various other Personal Troopers. In the ''Second Original Generation'', the Flickerei is made from parts of scrapped machines, including the Rapiecage and some elements of the Alt Eisen, particularly its right arm torn off by Axel during "Operation Plantagenet" in ''Original Generation 2''.
----
* AlphaStrike: Flickerei Geist's "Code: U.U.N." (Ultimate Uncanny Nail)
* ArtificialHuman: Not a "[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAdvance W-Series]]" android, but is one of two subjects coming out of the Idealants Project.
* BecomeARealBoy: Was TheStoic, but grows out of it.
* CombinationAttack: "E.D.N." with [[spoiler:Kyosuke and the Alt Eisen Riese]].
* EnergyWeapon: Flickerei Geist's "Force Ray"
* {{Expy}}: In the ''Second Original Generation'', the Flickerei Geist is based off of data from the Alt Eisen. From a physical standpoint, the machine's pretty much what would happen if the Alt and Weiss Ritter had a baby. However, it turns out the Flickerei is mainly based on the Alt and the Rapiecage (amusingly, another machine whose name means "patchwork"), even having it's trademark Code U.U.N. attack.
* FrankenVehicle: The Flickerei Geist is an amalgamation of salvaged or spare parts from other mecha. Its Revolver Stake arm is the same one Axel tore off the Alt Eisen in ''Original Generation 2'', while its "Autocannon" left arm belonged to the Rapiecage, salvaged from the Earth Cradle. The main chassis is what's left from the incident in the past that deemed the Flickerei [[FlawedPrototype a failed unit]]. Whoever cobbled this thing together did a ''really'' good job.
* GlassCannon: Like the Alt Eisen, the Flickerei Geist has the same amount of firepower, but doesn't have the Alt's armor stats to back itself up.
* HeelFaceTurn: Started out as a member of the Gaia Sabers chasing after Ing. The next time she appears on the battlefield, she jumps ship from them.
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Flickerei Geist"
* MeaningfulName: "Flickerei" means "patching/patchery" and "geist" is "ghost" in German. The Flickerei Geist is built using different parts from other Personal Troopers, namely those derived from the Gespenst line ("gespenst" meaning "spectre" in German).
** [[spoiler:"Faul Kern" is loosely translated as "rotten core" in German. Keeping in mind the Jetzt are human-engineered Einst, the Faul Kern in the Flickerei is flawed and cannot evolve]].
* PileBunker: Flickerei Geist's "Revolver Stake"
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Duvan's red
* SpellMyNameWithAnS
** Realistically, her name should be "Arriere" ("rear" in French) to keep the loose ThemeNaming between her and her brother "Devant" ("front" in French), though neither are real names.
** Overlaps with MeaningfulName[=/=]ThemeNaming, as the original form of their surname Org should "Ogre". By translating their complete names in Japanese, they become "Devant Ogre" (or ''Zenki'', as in "front demon") and "Arriere Ogre" (or ''Gouki'', as in "rear demon"). Their mecha also reflect this: the Alles is the larger of the two (representing ''Zenki'') while Flickerei is much smaller (representing ''Gouki''). Finally their "father" Dr. Ozunu is a reference to the [[http://eos.kokugakuin.ac.jp/modules/xwords/entry.php?entryID=425 "En-no-Ozunu" Shinto folk tale]], thus completing the circle.
* YourDaysAreNumbered: [[spoiler:Ariel's short lifespan is due to being a product of the Idealants Project. Lamia is sent to solve this problem at the end of the ''Second Original Generation'']].

The last of the "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlphaGaiden Machinery Children]]", Ing made his debut in an ''Alpha 2'' side-story manga called "Lost Children" (but since this is his game debut, his entry will go here). Following the defeat of the [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha2 Nashim Gan Eden]], Ing awoke and found himself within a badly damaged Huckebein MK II. Having no idea who he was or where he had come from, Ing soon found himself under attack from the "Alpha Numbers", specifically those who had went to the BadFuture via ''Alpha Gaiden''. When they saw his face, they realized he was one of the Machinery Children and kept labelling him as "Egret". Ing managed to hold back the Alpha Numbers and caused a huge explosion, allowing him to make a quick escape.

Upon waking up from the explosion, Ing found himself under the care of the Alpha Numbers. Giving him a place to recuperate, Ing tells them his situation and how they kept referring to him as Egret. Suddenly, the place is attacked by mysterious "Bergelmirs", mass-produced Huckebein MK II units mutated by "[[HealingFactor Machine Cells]]", under orders to find and capture Ing. The Alpha Numbers retailate and Ing manages to hijack a Bergelmir of his own. Damaging one of the enemy pilot's mask reveals to Ing the attackers and him share the same face. After the enemies retreat, the Alpha Numbers tell him the location of the Earth Cradle and Ing sets out to find the truth about his existence.

Ing appears in the ''Second Original Generation'' escaping from the Gaia Sabers' headquarters on Aidoneus Island, but is caught up by [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationAntagonists Duvan Org]] in the Alles Geist and shot down in his escaping unit. Floating near-lifelessly in an escape pod in the Pacific Ocean, Ing is found by members of the "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsReversal L&E Corporation]]" and brought aboard the ''Hagane'' for recovery. Unfortunately, [[AmnesiacDissonance Ing reawakens with no memories of who he is]], but willingly accepts to help the crew and their situation during their sojourn into La Gias by using the "R-Blade Custom". After returning to the surface world and sensing his extraordinary piloting capabilities, Ing is given a custom [=EXbein=] called the "Ashe" (the [=EXbein=] having [[CanonImmigrant first appeared in]] ''The Inspectors''), after Gaia Sabers member Amara Barton destroys all of Mao Industries' Huckebeins. By the end of the game, Ing is drafted into the reformed "PTX Team", headed by [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsClassic Irmgult Kazahara]] and changes his last name to "Wish" as of ''The Moon Dwellers''.
----
* AttackDrone: [[spoiler:EX-[=EXbein=]'s "Sliders"]]
* BadassCape: Ing himself and the Ashe
* {{BFG}}: [[spoiler:EX-[=EXbein=]'s "Black Hole Buster Cannon"]]
* {{BFS}}: Ashe's/[[spoiler:EX-[=EXbein=]'s]] "T-Link Saber"
* BookEnds: Ing is the first playable character starting in the prologue of the ''Second Original Generation''. By heading to the TrueFinalBoss, he'll be the last unit deployed in the battlefield, [[spoiler:due to being absorbed by [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Euzeth Gozzo]] and the Adamatron]].
* CallBack: Doubles as a ''very'' subtle piece of {{Foreshadowing}} (see below) - when he joins the Steel Dragon Battle Group, he sorties in an R-Blade Custom. In ''Alpha 3'', the R-Blade Custom is the only machine [[spoiler:[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Cobray Gordon]] could be swapped into other than the Werkbau and Dis Astranagant]].
* CutShort: "Lost Children" ended following a one-volume run with NoEnding; the ''Second Original Generation'' expands what was previously untold about Ing.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Because of TheOtherDarrin, the fact Ing isn't voiced by Creator/AkiraIshida, who portrays all the Machinery Children, is a clue about his identity. Like Cobray, Ing's first {{Leitmotif}} is a composite remix of "Gate of Magus", the {{Leitmotif}} of the Machinery Children, [[spoiler:and "Time Diver", which belongs to [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Ingram Prisken]]]].
** OlderThanYouThink: Ing was foreshadowed since ''Original Generation 2'' when [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlphaGaiden Egret Feff]] mentions a comment [[http://i41.tinypic.com/2ptb62f.png about the Ing series]].
* {{Leitmotif}}: "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrnFNG9g4V4 22nd Child]]" and "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Is7Cbl1CEGY Lost Children]]"
* MeaningfulName: His name is derived from "Inguz"; in keeping the ThemeNaming of the Machinery Children, Inguz is a Nordic rune which resembles two Xs together. [[spoiler:Makes sense when his MidSeasonUpgrade is called the "EX-[=EXbein=]" ([[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment no, really]])]].
* OnlyICanMakeItGo: In ''Second Original Generation'', he is the only one who can pilot the Ashe, [[spoiler:and by extension, the EX-[=EXbein=]. In ''The Moon Dwellers'', however, any Psychodriver can pilot the EX-[=EXbein=].]]
* PsychicPowers: Unlike the other Machinery Children, Ing is a Psychodriver. To accomodate this, the Ashe is installed with the "T-Link System".
* TheReveal: [[spoiler:Ing is a "hybrid" clone of the "Balshem" series of clones and the Machinery Children, created so Euzeth can gain access to the Nashim Gan Eden by having Ing as its "artificial pilot" in place of [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha2 Irui Gan Eden]]]].
* SuperPrototype: The [=EXbein=] is the prototype of the Huckebein MK III, though it's not entirely known whether the Ashe is stronger; canonically, the [=EXbein=] is weaker than the MK III.
** AceCustom: The Ashe is modified from the [=EXbein=] significantly, though it's probably because it was put together with a bunch of spare parts [[spoiler:after it was damaged by Amara and the Galilnagant]].
** Additionally, [[spoiler:the EX-[=EXbein=]]] can potentially be a testbed for the technology that will later be incorporated into the [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha SRX Altered Banpreios]].
* SweetTooth: One of Ing's traits is he enjoys sweets a lot; he particularly didn't mind the "strawberry jam-flavored rice balls" made by [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsDestiny Cliana Rimskaya]].
* UnrealisticBlackHole: [[spoiler:As per the standard for the Huckebein, the Black Hole Buster Cannon starts with Ing trapping his target in a psychic field before blasting them with a black hole from the {{BFG}} generating smaller black holes; [[StuffBlowingUp they all wind up exploding]]]].
* UnwittingPawn: [[spoiler:''Everything'' he does is a part of the plan by [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationOthersAndWalkingSpoilers Arteil Steinbeck]] to retrieve his "Void Memories" as Euzeth]].

[[caption-width-right:225:Gespenst MK-II, though she also uses a Schutzwald]]
-> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/ReiSakuma

A staff member at "Mao Industries", a major HumongousMecha manufactuing company on the moon, Radha Byraban is introduced in ''Original Generation'' via Kyosuke's route. Although she has a custom white "Schutzwald", Radha mainly heads out to the battlefield when the need arises. She first appears helping Gilliam Yeager protect a shuttle (and its cargo) from being seized by the Divine Crusaders. They succeed in keeping their enemies away, but Sanger (hiding his identity) disables the launch platform, forcing the ''Hiryu Custom'' to transport the cargo. After Mao Industries is attacked, Radha goes on to help the ''Hiryu Custom'' and its efforts to stop the "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationAntagonists United Colony Corps]]". It's during this time Radha introduces her personality quirk: she's a fan of yoga, albeit a ''big'' fan - so much she tries to teach it to everyone she meets. HilarityEnsues when this first happens: [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Excellen Browning]] and Katina loudly complain about their experiences, while Viletta is in so much pain she can't even speak. The reactions of the other pilots to Radha's offers of yoga lessons come close to rivaling the reactions to Kusuha and her GargleBlaster.

In ''Original Generation 2'', Radha's still working with Mao Industries. More details about her backstory are revealed: she was a test subject at the ICS (the same institute where the [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Kobayashi sisters]] were); however, Radha was released from the tests by [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationAntagonists Cuervo Cero]], a scientist she worked for and developed a friendly relationship with some time before the accident involving Mai that destroyed the ICS. When Radha meets Arado Balanga and learns Cero worked at The School, she's heartbroken he had stayed to work on the divisive program. Radha commits herself to assisting Arado and Latooni in rescuing Seolla and Ouka from Agilla Setme's control and confront Cuervo. When she gets the chance to meet Cero during the Federation's assault on the Earth Cradle, he reveals he's always cared for the Boosted Children, but hated himself for putting them through the program. When the installation begins to collapse, Cero's injured and pinned down after an attack from [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlphaGaiden Uruz Egret]]. Radha tries to save him, but Cero tells her to leave and take care of the Boosted Children in his stead.

By ''Original Generation Gaiden'', Radha retires from piloting to become a civilian contractor with the Aggressors, but will return to piloting duties if the situation warrants. Since the Schutzwald is rendered obsolete by the time of the ''Second Original Generation'', Radha currently uses a white-colored Gespenst MK II M custom with the Type-C as her default. She adheres to the following tropes:
----
* BodyHorror: A less disturbing variation. Somehow, she's able to contort her body in such a fashion that she was able to fit inside a Huckebein MK II cockpit with [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Brooklyn "Bullet" Luckfield]] when he first sortied in it. Naturally, this scared the living shit out of him.
** YouDoNOTWantToKnow: Don't bother asking Bullet, either; he was too freaked out to give details.
* {{Flanderization}}: She expresses concern that people see her interest in yoga as her only personality trait.
* MeaningfulName: Her {{Leitmotif}}, "Padma no Asana", translates to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jHesidd2f4 "Asana of Destruction"]], ''quite'' the opposite of Radha's behavior, unless it's a joke towards her yoga poses.
* PsychicPowers: Played with; even though Radha was a test subject at the ICS, she never developed the same level of telekinetic abilities other Psychodrivers exhibit. However, she does have a heightened sense of awareness compared to non-psychics, but this doesn't qualify her as a Psychodriver.
* SayMyName: Does this after [[spoiler:Cuervo]] dies during the Earth Cradle's collapse.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Is it "Byraban" or "Bairaban"?
* TokenMinority: She's Indian, and her nationality is reflected in her battle dialogue.

[[caption-width-right:225:Fairlion-G]]
-> '''Voiced by:''' Reina Kaihara

Crown Princess of the "Dukedom of Riksent", a small independent state in the Mediterranean, Shine was born with [[Main/MySignificanceSenseIsTingling the ability to see the future]] and for this reason (plus her kindgom's large gold mines), Riskent's attacked by Divine Crusaders Remnants after the defeat of their leaders at Aidoneus Island. She's rescued by the SRX Team (or "ATX Team" if playing on Kyosuke's route), and brought to the Izu Base in Japan, with Latooni and Raidiese serving as her bodyguards. Her safety is compromised when she gets kidnapped by a mole in Federation command and taken to Adler Koch, who places her in a Valsion Custom equipped with the GEIM System, brainwashing her into a soldier to help him take down Federation headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Fortunately, she's rescued before the system can cause permanent damage to her mind.

Riskent's invaded by the Neo Divine Crusaders ''again'' in ''Original Generation 2'', and Shine barely escapes capture. This time, however, she's ready to fight back; to that extent, she personally commissioned the Fairlions with the help from the Tesla-Leicht Institute. With Latooni helming the Fairlion-S, Shine uses the Fairlion-G(old) and joins the ''Hagane'' battleship to re-take her nation. Although Riksent is safe again, Shine takes the initiative to journey with the crew to combat and defeat the Shadow-Mirror, [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Einst]], and [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsClassic Inspectors]], to ensure they don't become a threat to not only Riksent, but the world.
----
* BodyguardCrush, HeroWorshipper: Of Raidiese; this starts to fade beginning with ''Original Generation Gaiden'' in favor of a focus on her relationship with Latooni and interacting with other pilots.
* ChestBlaster: Fairlion's "Vostok Laser"
* CombinationAttack, DancingTheme: "Royal Heart Breaker"
* CompositeCharacter, CaptainErsatz
** Mainly a spunkier take on the various high-society/regal female characters throughout the ''Franchise/{{Gundam}}'' franchise; her experience with the Valsion Custom, however, seems to be lifted from [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Four Murasame]].
** The latter works further, given that, while character-wise she's more of a [[Anime/SuperDimensionFortressMacross Maximillian Jenius-type]], Latooni's Wildraubtier is basically the Zeta Gundam.
* ErmineCapeEffect
** Evident in ''Original Generation 2'' for the UsefulNotes/GameBoyAdvance during her SuperMovePortraitAttack; ''Original Generations'' {{Re Tool}}s this by giving her an actual pilot suit, but still customized for her.
** The ''Second Original Generation'' re-implements this in a hilarious way: as with Latooni, the Fairlion somehow swaps out her flight suit for her "princess idol" outfit during Royal Heart Breaker.
* FragileSpeedster: As with Latooni's Fairlion-S, the Fairlion-G has similar weapon loadouts and stats, but carries the same on-board "Missile Jammer", "Beam Coat" barrier and can activate "Mirror Image".
* GirlWithPsychoWeapon: During her BrainwashedAndCrazy stint
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Fairy Dang-Sang" (localized alternately as "Fairy Dancing" or "Dancing Fairies")
* MistakenForBadass: Briefly by [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact3 Folka Albark]] in ''Original Generation Gaiden'' - since he's still [[FishOutOfWater learning about Earth customs with the Shura culture in the back of his mind]], the term "princess", in Shura-speak, means Shine should be physically strong enough to ''pound him flat''.
* MySignificanceSenseIsTingling: Known genetically to be the strongest user of clairvoyance her family's ever produced.
* NeatFreak: Implied in the ''Second Original Generation''. How did she appear in [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsGaiden La]] [[BeneathTheEarth Gias]]? Apparently, she was cleaning her Fairlion-G just as the summoning occurs.
* RebelliousPrincess: At first; averted when she reappears in the sequel.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: Again, subverted in ''Original Generation'', but played straight once Shine gets her Fairlion.
* ShipTease: ''Original Generations'' version of the Royal Heart Breaker, though some official art with her and Latooni feels [[LesYay somewhat less ambiguous]]. Meanwhile, the ''Second Original Generation'' takes the innuendo further with a teased AlmostKiss that ends with both girls looking distinctly breathless and ''surrounded by [[FlowerMotifs roses]] and LoveBubbles''. As one comment on Youtube put it.
--> "You know, if Banpresto keeps topping themselves like this, by 4th OG, they won't have anywhere to go but just straight-up lesbian sex".
** None of this is assisted by the fact the most obvious licensed-property relationship parallel for Latooni and Shine is Kamille and Four (see CompositeCharacter above).
* ShoutOut: Aside from the ''Wink'' reference, there's a chance for Shine referring to the Fairlion's "Sonic Driver" as "[[Manga/GetterRobo Shine Spark]]". To further the joke, Shine paraphrases the ''actual'' Shine Spark dialogue spoken by [[Manga/GetterRobo Ryoma Nagare]].
* TookALevelInBadass
** In her debut, she had no fighting experience, thus becoming a DamselInDistress (quite possibly DamselScrappy, depending on the viewer). Cue ''Original Generation 2'' - she gets a custom machine that takes advantage of her clairvoyance via the W-INK System and starts taking to the front lines. Part of this, though, stems from the fact the W-INK System allows the pilot of one unit (Latooni) to remotely control the other.
** By the later parts of the story, Shine's quite capable of piloting by herself. In ''The Inspectors'', she fights against Ouka in the Rapiecage with the GEIM System activated and survives long enough to reach its operational limit. In the ''Second Original Generation'', she's thrown into La Gias without Latooni and fights there just fine.

[[caption-width-right:225:The original sword that smites evil]]
-> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/MasaharuSato

An advisor for the Tesla-Leicht Institute and master of the ''Jigen-ryuu'' ("Jigen-style") swordsmanship, Master Rishu Tougou is the teacher to Sanger and Bullet. A good-natured man, when it comes to matters of the sword, Rishu is strict. At his time in Tesla-Leicht, he's provided the motion data for the "[[{{BFS}} Colossal Blade]]" and its development.
----
* AscendedExtra: Is partially available for use in ''2.5: Unified Wisdom'', but is fully playable beginning with ''Original Generation Gaiden''.
* CoolOldGuy: Remember, folks - this is the man who taught Sanger to be a badass.
* {{Kiai}}: Just like his pupils, "CHESTO!"
* LightningBruiser: Has the highest skill stat and critical hit rate (the latter augmented by his Ace Bonus) in the ''Second Original Generation'', coupled with a natural "Infight"[[note]]Increase movement range and weapon power for melee-based weapons[[/note]] and "Attack Again"[[note]]Attack a second time if the pilot's skill stat is 20 points higher than the enemy's skill stat[[/note]] pilot skills and the cheapest "Guard" Spirit Command[[note]]Decrease all damage taken for one turn by 75%[[/note]] in the game.
* MasterSwordsman: Current head of ''Jigen-ryuu''
* MythologyGag: His ancestor is Ryuuma Tougou, the pilot of the [=RyuKoOh=] centuries back in the ''[=RyuKoOh=] Denki'' manga.
* OldMaster: Again, this guy taught Sanger and Bullet the way of the sword, and he is still very lethal.
* RocketPoweredWeapon: The back of the Type-0 Colossal Blade is covered in thrusters.
* ShutUpHannibal: Is prone to this just like Sanger.
* SimpleYetAwesome: The Type-0 lacks the {{Transforming|Mecha}}/CombiningMecha abilities of the later Grungust models, and its built-in weaponry don't consist of more than [[MacrossMissileMassacre missile launchers]], a RocketPunch and a ChestBlaster, yet Rishu {{Lampshades}} on the machine's simplicity.
--> '''Rishu''': "It can swing [[{{BFS}} the sword]]. [[TheAllSolvingHammer That's all it needs to do]]."
* SoLastSeason: Averted; the Type-0 was decommissioned prior to ''Original Generation 2'', but when it makes its return, it's still one of the strongest units in ''Original Generation Gaiden'' all the way towards the ''Second Original Generation''. Justified as the machine is upgraded with technology from its successors (namely "TGC Joints" and a plasma generator) during its absence off-screen.
* SuperPrototype: {{Downplayed|Trope}} and {{Justified|Trope}}; while the Type-0 is one of the strongest units in ''Original Generation Gaiden'' and the ''Second Original Generation'', it had to undergo extensive retrofits and upgrades with current generation technology. In spite of that, the Type-0 lacks most of the capabilities of its succeeding units (see SimpleYetAwesome above). Most of its combat ability comes from the [[{{BFS}} Colossal Blade]] and [[OldMaster Rishu's skill with it]].
* SwordCane: Carries one in case of emergencies, [[spoiler:such as when the Inspectors held the Tesla-Leicht Institute hostage]].
* WeakButSkilled: [[SlidingScaleOfGameplayAndStoryIntegration An integration of story and gameplay]], as he's lost much of his strength due to his old age, he may not have the highest offensive stats or be able to pilot a more powerful machine, but his skills allow him to still be very lethal on the field. This is reflected in his spirits, which have some of the lowest costs in the entire roster, while his Skill stat is one of the highest, which allow him to deal criticals and use his Attack Again skill more often.

-->''"[[CallingYourAttacks OVER KAISER SWOOOOORD!]]"''

A newcomer for ''Original Generation Gaiden'', Kouta Azuma is just a HotBlooded OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent from the city district of Asakusa, who receives frequent telepathic messages from a being calling itself "Roar". When his younger sister Shouko's attacked by the invading [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact3 Shura]], Kouta becomes desperate to protect her, until Roar gives him instructions to transform into his armor, becoming "Fighter Roar". While this doesn't seem to be enough to repel the Shura, his grandfather [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationOthersAndWalkingSpoilers Professor Kisaburou Azuma]] unveils the machine he's been hiding and repairing for years: Roar's Compatible Kaiser. Kouta goes to pilot it and fends off the attackers, but just when he believes he won't be using that power anymore, he manages to escape the "ODE Incident", only to see Shouko get nabbed away by [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact3 Folka Albark]], forcing him to go on the run after his newfound rival, get in the Compatible Kaiser and save his sister. He manages to join the ''Kurogane'' crew along the way and learn more about their operations, even making peace with Folka, who recently [[DefectorFromDecadence defected from the Shura]].

Unfortunately, Kouta doesn't expect Shouko to wind up becoming a victim of [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsReversal Duminuss]] and its brainwashing, wearing the "Emi Armor" and piloting the G-Thundergate, the companion craft to the Compatible Kaiser. Out for Roar's blood, it takes large amounts of IKnowYouAreInThereSomewhereFight to break control over Shouko, thereby rendering her as the {{Henshin Hero}}ine "Fighter Emi" and face Roar's nemesis [[Characters/CompatiHeroSeries Dark Brain]].

Kouta winds up reappearing in {{Continuity}} via the ''[[VideoGame/EndlessFrontier Endless Frontier EXCEED]]'' SpinOff sequel. In the drama CD that occurs prior to the game, he's transported to the Endless Frontier with [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAdvance Axel Almer]], surprised at [[AmnesiacDissonance his shift in personality]] and the appearance of [[Characters/EndlessFrontier Aschen Blodel]], mistaking her as Lamia. Regardless, Kouta manages to return to Earth once the misadventure ends, but for the sake of not confusing everyone, Kouta decides to keep the majority of this detour to himself (and Axel).

But getting back to the real world doesn't equate rest for Kouta, as the Earth is now under siege by the "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsDestiny Ruina]]", with the Gaia Sabers making things complicated. Kouta rejoins the Steel Dragon Battle Group and heads back to Asakusa City to retrieve the Compatible Kaiser, only to find delinquent Michiru Hanaten waiting to challenge him in front of his home. He had no time to worry, as extraterrestrials begin laying siege on Asakusa City. With Michiru's assistance, Kouta recovers the Compatible Kaiser and eventually goes on full force in helping the Steel Dragon Battle Group until the end of the Sealing War.
----
* AlphaStrike: Compatible Kaiser's "Kaiser Tornado"
* {{BFS}}: G Compatible Kaiser's "Overkaiser Sword"
* CallingYourAttacks: "[[LargeHam OVERKAISEEEEEEER~!! '''''SWOOOOOOOOOOORD~!!''''']]"
* ChestBlaster: (G) Compatible Kaiser's "Kaiser Burst". Doubles as a ContinuityNod[=/=]MythologyGag, as the letters "BF" (Battle Force) are seen in the attack, which confirms this is the same Kaiser from ''The Great Battle IV''.
* CombiningMecha, MechaExpansionPack: With the G Thundergate, the Compatible Kaiser becomes the G Compatible Kaiser.
* CoolBoard: "Battle Racer", Warrior Roar's flying surfboard from ''The Great Battle III'' is part of Kouta's arsenal in the ''Second Original Generation''.
* EveryoneHasStandards: At first, Kouta is just set on saving Shouko. But shortly after tagging along with the Steel Dragon Battle Group and witnessing their grief with Lamia's apparent death, Kouta re-arranges his priority quickly: While he will still make Shouko's safety his top priority, he'll join in the grieving party and dedicate some of his efforts to avenge Lamia, whom he just met for just a few minutes beforehand. As much as an HotBlooded IdiotHero he is, he can still read the situation, adjusts accordingly, and is definitely not overly selfish.
* HenshinHero: Transform into Fighter Roar to fight.
* {{Hot Blood}}ed: And HOW!
* IdiotHero: A different breed than Arado's, Kouta is a short-tempered HotBlooded boy, not really good at remembering things and tends to go for 'act first, think later' in his actions and sounds more like a rough delinquent-ish boy. Unlike Arado, though, he's a bit better in the robot choice given to him, since Compatible Kaiser is a Super Robot, perfect for a SuperRobotGenre style IdiotHero like him.
* InSeriesNickname: At one point in ''Original Generation Gaiden'', [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Ricarla Borgnine]] calls it the "Pachinko Kaiser".
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: His short temper aside, he is still an overall NiceGuy who will jump at the call to fight ForGreatJustice and protection of the weak/innocent and he is really protective to his sister.
* KillItWithFire: "Fire Dragon"; ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin
* LegacyCharacter: Inherited the powers and title of the former Fighter Roar, who currently exists as Warrior Roar.
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Burn Now!" as Fighter Roar; when he pilots the Compatible Kaiser, "Howl, Compatikaiser!"
* PowerEchoes: Variation; his voice has a noticeable reverb effect whenever he starts yelling.
* PrecisionGuidedBoomerang: Compatible Kaiser's "Kaiser Boomerang"
* {{Reconstruction}}: Everything about Kouta and the Compatible Kaiser's done in the incredibly stereotypical, old-school SuperRobot anime style, which contrasts heavily with the RealRobot dynamics ''concerning'' {{Super Robot}}s in the ''Original Generation'' universe and mythos.
* RocketPunch: Compatible Kaiser's "Spiral Knuckle"; the G Compatible Kaiser's version clasps both hands as the "Double Spiral Knuckle". Interestingly, the latter resembles the same-named attack the Anime/{{Dangaioh}} has.
* ShoulderCannon: Again, ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin, once the G Thundergate combines with the Kaiser.
* ShoutOut: Doubles as {{Expy}} - in ''Original Generations'', the Compatible Kaiser is practically the Anime/{{Gravion}} in appearance and attacks; by ''Original Generation Gaiden'', the G Compatible Kaiser's essentially the Sol Gravion. This is because Creator/MasamiObari created, designed and directed ''Anime/{{Gravion}}'', and was tasked by Banpresto to give the Kaiser a new look for the series.
* SkySurfing: Roar fights without Compatible Kaiser for most of the first half of ''2nd Original Generations'', riding a flying surfboard.
* TransformationNameAnnouncement: It's even part his name!
* YouDoNOTWantToKnow: Inverted; Kisaburou was more than willingly to tell his grandson why he hid the news about Roar and the Kaiser, but Kouta isn't interested in hearing it. In fact, he {{Lampshades}} how he doesn't want to get mixed up in "more annoying crap". Obviously, Kouta didn't know he had no choice later.

Kouta's younger sister, Shouko lives with her brother and their grandfather Kisaburou in Asakusa. Whereas Kouta is easier to get riled up, Shouko is calm and patient, often having to put up with her brother's attitude. First appearing in ''Original Generation Gaiden'', Shouko is kidnapped by Folka Albark of the Shura, who is colloborating with Duminuss, following the ODE Incident. Forced into wearing the "Emi Armor, Shouko is {{Brainwashed}} into Duminuss' servitude, piloting the G-Thundergate to harass and kill Fighter Roar. Fortunately, she breaks free of the MindControl to help her HenshinHero brother fight against their new otherworldly enemies.

* BrotherSisterTeam: Shouko will use the Emi Armor and G-Thundergate full-time to assist Kouta whenever he needs it
* DayInTheLimelight: Shouko fights independently without relying on Kouta by deploying in the G-Thundergate as a seperate unit for the ''Second Original Generation'' in contrast to her appearance in ''Original Generation Gaiden''.

After some unspecified time in ''The Great Battle'' series, Roar leaves the Battle Force universe with the Compatible Kaiser to pursue his arch-nemesis Dark Brain. The Kaiser arrived on Earth from the outskirts of "[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsGC Mogami Heavy Industries]]" where it was found by Kouta's grandfather Professor Kisaburou Azuma, who took the Kaiser and repaired it using the same technology behind the Dynamic General Guardians. 507
A student of "[[Creator/BandaiNamcoEntertainment [=BanNam=]]] Academy", Michiru was loosely mentioned in the ''Endless Frontier EXCEED'' drama CD, but makes his on-screen debut in the ''Second Original Generation''. When Kouta was in the Endless Frontier, Michiru went to Asakusa City to challenge Kouta, on his quest to conquer all high schools in Japan. Despite Kouta not being around, Michiru prepares to wait for him, to the extent of standing outside his home until he returns. Shouko wouldn't stand for this and allows him to stay in the Azuma residence while he waits. This was long enough for Michiru to develop a crush on her.

When extraterrestrial invaders attack Asakusa City, mass-produced [=JinRai=] arrive on the spot to destroy them. Unfortunately, they begin tearing apart the city because the Compatible Kaiser is hidden beneath the city's amusement park (the [=JinRai=] are programmed to destroy all Dynamic General Guardian units: the Kaiser was repaired with the same tech). Wanting to help, Professor Kisaburou leads Michiru into the underground bunker where the Kaiser is being kept and sends it to street level so Kouta can use the machine to fend off the [=JinRai=].

* AscendedExtra: From an off-screen appearance via spoken dialogue in a drama CD of a SpinOff game to an on-screen appearance in the ''Second Original Generation'' and ''The Moon Dwellers''. 541Making her debut in ''Dark Prison'', Yong Gebana is a pilot from the Earth Federation's "Test and Evaluation Command #3" humanoid mobile weapons development team. During a test run for the "Pfeil III", a modified version of the mass-produced Huckebein MK II, Yong gets pulled into La Gias via the mass summoning event and aligns with [[Characters/MasouKishin Shu Shirakawa]] and his party in order to find a way back to the surface world.

She returns in ''The Moon Dwellers'', where she officially joins the Steel Dragon Battle Group.
----
* AbnormalAmmo: Pfeil III's "Sword Launcher", which launches the daggers on the "Gunstar Blader"
* AceCustom: The Pfeil III is created by taking into account suggestions made by various teams using mass-produced Huckebeins in combat with desired features in mind.
* DitzyGenius: Yong has a serious personality when it counts and operates "by the book" most of the time. She has a slight obsession with data, represented by how she acquires and utilizes it constantly during combat (her debut scenario is called "Auditor Girl", referencing this).
* {{Foreshadowing}}: [[spoiler:Yong mentions plans for the Pfeil III were stolen by the Inspectors off-screen during ''Original Generation 2'', the first indicator she isn't an Earthling. 555* PunnyName: Played with; in a save-quit intermission scene, Yong assures her name isn't derived from the word ''yon'' meaning "four" in Japanese, even though she was introduced in scenario 4 of ''Dark Prison''.

[[folder:Daitetsu Minase]]
[[quoteright:225:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/daitetsu.BMP]]
-> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/HidekatsuShibata

The CoolOldGuy among the originals, Daitetsu Minase is the captain of the space-exploration ship ''Hiryu'' years before the events of the first game. After a deadly encounter with the Aerogaters near Pluto, the ''Hiryu'' is forced to retreat after being overpowered. This incident hovers over Daitetsu, as he swears he won't allow such a near-death incident to happen again. By then, he's moved to a rank of commandant of a military academy, where he trains his future XO and protege Tetsuya Onodera, [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationEarthFederation Lee Linjun]] and Lefina Einfeld. Just as he becomes captain of the newly christened ''Space-Noah'' class battleship ''Shirogane'' (with Tetsuya as his deputy), Shu Shirakawa damages it with the Granzon before its maiden voyage. Despite two ship disasters on his record, Daitetsu's given command of the second ''Space-Noah'' battleship ''Hagane'' during the Divine Crusaders War. Fortunately, he has more success, as the ''Hagane'' single-handedly attacks its headquarters and achieves victory. Depending on which route players take in the game, the ''Hagane'' is either scuttled in order to infiltrate the White Star or assists the rebuilt ''Hiryu Custom'' in the assault.

By the time ''Original Generation 2'' rolls in, Daitetsu's still captain of the rebuilt ''Hagane'', despite talks with his superiors he should retire from active duty and return to the academy to train new recruits. He leads the ship through another war with the Neo Divine Crusaders, including the invading [[HumanAliens Inspectors]]. During an assault at the Inspectors-occupied North American Langley Base, [[{{Jerkass}} Lee]] [[FaceHeelTurn springs a surprise preemptive]] on the ''Hagane'' in order to sink it. The attack wounds Daitetsu, but he quickly orders both the ''Hagane'' and ''Hiryu Custom'' to make their escape.

Daitetsu has a fondness for sake, and keeps a bottle in his office for special occasions.

Tropes associated with him are:
----
* AFatherToHisMen: Helps out the crew whenever his advice/thoughts are needed. Daitetsu even tells Tetsuya that he's going to make a fine captain despite his hesitation to officially leave the post of XO in the Hagane.
* BlessedWithSuck: Surprise attacks seem to have it in for Daitetsu. He lost two ships because of it, and just when it looks like he'll get past this trope, Lee comes out of nowhere and nearly sinks the ''Hagane''.
* TheCaptain: All ''Space Noah''-class battleships are under his command, even if it was for a short period.
* CaptainErsatz: The [=SRW=] equivalent of [[Anime/UchuuSenkanYamato Juzo Okita]], right down to the amphibious [[TheBattlestar battlestar]] armed with a bow-mounted WaveMotionGun, and [[spoiler:[[SacrificialLion not making it out alive until the end of the story.]]]]
* CoolOldGuy: He is a battle-hardened veteran. Gains a lot of admiration and respect from the younger cast members. In fact, [[spoiler:a funeral is held following the [[WhamEpisode tragic scenario]]. To that end, some of the characters' portrait has them crying; even Elzam arrives ''in person'' rather than as his Ratsel persona, as visiting his funeral using a disguise, in his own words, is disgracing Daitetsu's memories]].
* GoodSmokingEvilSmoking: Averted; players consistently see Daitetsu with a corn-cob pipe in his mouth, but rarely see him lighting it or taking a puff.
* HeroicWillpower: [[spoiler:The injuries he receives at Langley are fatal, but Daitetsu holds out long enough to ensure a hasty, safe retreat for both ships before quietly succumbing to his wounds]].

Adjutant to Daitetsu, Tetsuya graduated from the military academy Daitetsu taught at. Placed second overall in his class, right behind Lee, but for reasons unexplained, he's chosen over the more-qualified Lee (on paper, at least) as Daitetsu's second-in-command. He survives the Antarctic attack on the ''Shirogane'' and moves on to become XO of the ''Hagane'' during the first Divine Crusaders War. For the most part, Tetsuya acts like an overreactive, nervous rookie, serving as a form of comic relief for the originals. However, depending on the route played in ''Original Generation'', Tetsuya reveals himself as quite the brilliant tactician, seen with his strategy of using the recoil of the "[[WaveMotionGun Tronium Buster Cannon]]" on the bow of the ''Hagane'' as a means of escaping from what would've been a suicide attack on the Aerogaters' White Star.

During the second Divine Crusaders War, Tetsuya's still executive officer of the newly-repaired ''Hagane'', despite suggestions from several people that with his talents, he should be given command of his own ship. For the most part in ''Original Generation 2'', Tetsuya still acts like his semi-goofy self, until Lee's [[FaceHeelTurn defection to the Shadow-Mirror]] and his surprise attack on the ''Hagane''. This event considerably forces Tetsuya to [[TookALevelInBadass man up]] and assume command of the ''Kurogane'' for the rest of the Inspector conflict, albeit under the title of "Deputy Captain". By the time ''Original Generation Gaiden'' rolls in, he's the full-fledged captain of the repaired ''Hagane''. However, between the ''Second Original Generation'' and ''The Moon Dwellers'', Tetsuya is demoted back to executive officer due to events from the former.

He embodies these tropes:
----
* BadassNormal: From ''Original Generation 2'' onwards, he attains the badass part.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Starts out the comic relief and nearly seems useless; hell, this is even reflected in his Spirit Command list. Then, when players least expect it, Tetsuya shows just why he graduated so high in his class.
* CantHoldHisLiquor: Unlike Daitetsu, Tetsuya can't really hold his liquor well and gets drunk easily. It's gotten to a point where he's mocked for having such low tolerance.
* DemotedToExtra: He's back to being the executive officer of the ''Hagane'' for ''The Moon Dwellers'' to make way for new ship captain Gint Kitaumi. While it was an accident, he did [[spoiler:indirectly kill [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationEarthFederation President Graien Grusman]]]] during the ''Second Original Generation'' after all.
* DynamicEntry: That drill on the ''Kurogane'' isn't simply just for show
* NewMeat: First the rookie, now ascended to TheCaptain.
* OlderThanTheyLook: He was ''29'' in the first game.
* RammingAlwaysWorks: Subverts it in the first ''Original Generation'' game , then plays it gloriously straight in the sequel.
* ShipTease: Meta-example - since they're both captains of capital ships, he and Lefina have often been teased as a potential couple.
* ThisIsADrill: "Titanic Drill" on the bow of the ''Kurogane''
* WaveMotionGun: "Tronium Buster Cannon" on the bow of the ''Hagane''

While never malicious, he does share Brigadier-General Miles Boothlloyd's reluctance to act without explicit orders from above throughout the early game. He gets over this more quickly than Miles does, thankfully.
* TheGoodCaptain: Daitetsu set a standard for ReasonableAuthorityFigure, but Gint understands what's best for the Battle Group, nor does he flaunt his position or mention Tetsuya's demotion. He even risks his own position and being detained to save the group.

Captain of the refitted ''Hiryu Custom'', Lieutenant-Colonel Lefina gradutated at the top of her class and given command of the ship on what's labelled as a "trial basis". At 18 years-old, Lefina is shy, nervous and very unsure of her abilities. As a result, she tends to defer a lot of decisions to the more experienced leaders, like deputy captain Sean Webley (Daitetsu's former adjutant on the ''Hiryu'') and ATX Team leaders Sanger and Kyosuke. During the Divine Crusaders War, she leads the ''Hiryu Custom'' and the ATX Team against the entire United Colony Corps defensive force and slowly matures into a dependable leader. The ''Hiryu Custom'' succeeds in defeating the Corps and re-establishing Earth Federation control in space. She also participates in the L5 Campaign; however, Lefina's involvement varies slightly depending on which route players choose. After the war, the ''Hiryu Custom'' is assigned to the Icarus asteroid base in the asteroid belt beyond Mars.

In ''Original Generation 2'', the ''Hiryu Custom'' is recalled back to Earth initially to investigate the disappearances of random Earth Federation Army squads in the L2 sector. After an attack on Mao Industries by a mysterious alien robot, the ship's assigned to protect the White Star from an alien attack. Lefina orders a full retreat from the White Star after the fleet stationed there is wiped out by the Inspectors. She also assists in the evacuation efforts from Mao Industries and the Tesla-Liecht Institute from the Inspectors, and eventually rejoins the ''Hagane'' in fighting them off. After these events, the ''Hiryu Custom'' is assigned to the Moon's defensive forces. By ''Original Generation Gaiden'', the ''Hiryu Custom'' is once again called back to action against the rampaging Bartolls and the Shura invasion.

Lefina functions nearly as a DistaffCounterpart to Tetsuya: both are quite easily startled and teased, only she has more potential for {{Moe}}. She embodies these tropes:
----
* BewareTheSillyOnes: She may seem like a ditzy and demure woman, but she has been, and more importantly ''remained'' a battleship captain since the first OG games, and she is still one of the key leaders of the fleet.
* CaptainErsatz: Compare Lefina to [[Anime/MartianSuccessorNadesico Yurika Misumaru]] - both have roughly the same age and combat experience and they command their respective battleships which feature a gravity-based WaveMotionGun. Sans appearance, while Lefina is slightly shy (but will pull through without being a ShrinkingViolet), Yurika is more ditzy, yet out-going.
* DitzyGenius [[TheCaptain Captain]]: She's 18 and ''already'' a battleship captain. To counter that, she's rather [[CuteClumsyGirl klutzy]]. At one point in ''Original Generation 2'', she doesn't realize she's speaking to Elzam under his PaperThinDisguise.
* {{Fanservice}}: Has been roped by [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Excellen Browning]] [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lefina_playboybunny.jpg to dress up]] as a PlayboyBunny in ''[[AnimatedAdaptation Divine Wars]]''. Cue a collection of MaleGaze, {{Nosebleed}} and SpitTake.
* LadyOfWar: In both senses of the term. She's gentle and demure, but also very much accustomed to the battlefield.
* MeaningfulName: "Hiryu" means "soaring dragon". Not only is the meaning supposed to be a reference to it "soaring through space", but also because the battleship's bow is designed to ''look'' like a [[http://i.imgur.com/DDRLG.jpg dragon]].
* ShipTease: With Tetsuya.
* ToBeLawfulOrGood: Twice in Moon Dwellers, she sees this being a choice, [[spoiler:first when it seems Boothlloyd's mismanagement will finally get the battalion wiped out, second when the Hiryu Kai is to be used to transport chemical weapons to be used on partly-civilian targets at a designated time]] with part of the gravitas being that elements in the Earth Federation would love an excuse to remove her. [[spoiler:It's strongly implied that she intends to choose Good both times but as it happens, Kitaumi and Boothlloyd (respectively) pick those occasions to show what they're [[TookALevelInBadass really]] capable of, and she doesn't need to break with orders.]]
* YoungAndInCharge: While she's not ''the'' youngest character in the cast, Lefina is the highest ranking member in the entire Steel Dragon Battle Group; all major decisions made by the Battle Group are deferred to her. Simultaneously, she's the youngest of the other commanders by a substantial number of years. Averted by ''The Moon Dwellers'' as [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGenerationEarthFederation Brigadier-General Miles Boothlloyd]] replaces her as overall commander of the Battle Group.

Vice-Captain of the ''Hiryu Custom'', Sean is a close friend of Daitetsu and loves to spend time drinking with him. He was previously the second-in-command of the ''Hiryu'' with Daitetsu as its captain before their trip near Pluto and their first encounter with the Aerogators. One of his hobbies include openly guessing the three sizes of the female crew and pilots, even flirting with them.
----
* BunnyEarsLawyer: He's the talented and supportive XO whose encouragement can take form into [[DirtyOldMan "Hit the target, then I'll tell the Captain's three sizes."]]
* DirtyOldMan: In some bizarre way, he knows all of Lefina's three sizes.
* HandsomeLech: Sean may be tempered by age, but he represents what an OfficerAndAGentleman is - although he flirts, he does not grope or leer on the many attractive females, though he makes it clear he appreciates their presence. Note pre-ContinuityReboot, he's responsible for forcing Latooni to permanently wear her ElegantGothicLolita outfit.
* NumberTwo: Lefina's XO aboard the ''Hiryu Custom''
* OneLastSmoke: Variation; Sean had saved a bottle of Scotch to share with [[spoiler:Daitetsu if they succeeded with Operation Plantagenet]]. [[LibationForTheDead He tosses away the bottle into the sea as an offering to his fallen friend]].

* AscendedExtra: From a non-playable secondary character in the previous games to a "sub-pilot" of a battleship in the ''Second Original Generation''.

Elzam's NumberTwo aboard the ''Kurogane'', Kurt Bitner is usually the one in charge of the battleship whenever Elzam is afield.
----
* GuestStarPartyMember: In all his appearances, Kurt is never playable for more than a few scenarios.
* ReusedCharacterDesign: His design was first used in ''Original Generations'' for the generic Divine Crusaders captains.
* ThisIsADrill: "Titanic Drill" on the bow of the ''Kurogane''
