The protagonist. A male Tarbosaurus who was orphaned as an infant. He struggles to reach adulthood whilst dealing with a tyrannosaur known as One Eye, the one who killed his family.
----
* AbusiveParents: He becomes one to his surviving son in ''Journey to Fire Mountain'', albeit unintentionally, and is a byproduct of his stress and grief of not being able to protect his past family members who were killed violently in the first film. He even calls Junior a "disgrace" for not being able to hunt properly and this causes a fissure in their relationship. That said, Speckles does eventually admit that he went too far in trying to discipline his son and decides to be better after he rescues Junior.
* ActionDad: Speckles eventually becomes a father, but this only gives him a new responsibility when it comes to hunting and fighting animals, namely to protect his offspring and teach them how to hunt.
* AllForNothing: After being exiled for 20 years, Speckles finally manages to reclaim his childhood home upon defeating One Eye... only for this to be short-lived as only a short while later, a volcanic eruption occurs and endangers the environment, forcing Speckles and his family to abandon their home to its destruction.
* TheBabyOfTheBunch: Of his family, he was the youngest.
* CarnivoreConfusion: [[AvertedTrope Not a case for Speckles]]. He is a natural predator who doesn't budge in eating insects as an infant and killing dinosaurs as an adult when hungry. This is later played straight in the sequel where Speckles makes acquaintances with a Saichania named Cy and protects a ''Pukyongosaurus'' nesting ground from a pack of ''Carnotaurus''.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: [[spoiler: He met Blue Eyes when they were both adolescents. They spent at least ten years together before becoming mates.]]
* DisneyDeath: [[spoiler: When it looks as if Speckles has washed up on the beach exhausted from swimming to shore and fighting off One Eye, his son calls at his father a bunch of times before he wakes up and slowly gets back on his feet.]]
* FromNobodyToNightmare: A rare heroic example. He starts as a defenseless infant who has to rely on his family and later scavenge for corpses to survive. Eventually, he grows up to be a formidable predator who can stand his ground in a tough fight and terrifies any animal that recognizes him as someone who would hunt them down as prey.
* HappilyMarried: They're actually mates, but the spirit of the trope still applies to him and Blue Eyes, considering they've looked after and provided for each other for a decade and are attentive parents towards their children. [[spoiler:Of course, it's made all the more tragic when Blue Eyes dies and Speckles reflects on her in the sequel about his struggle in caring for their one surviving child]].
* HistoryRepeats: Twice he has to see his family die, first as an infant and later on as an adult, and with him being powerless to do anything about it and causing Speckles great grief later on.
* HorrifyingHero: He's a heroic character who goes out of his way to provide for his family and gets into conflict against predators that tend to be worse than him. That said, he's not just a predator himself, he's an ''apex predator'', meaning that nearly every animal in his environment tends to steer clear from him.
* HorrifyingTheHorror: As a predator, he's on the receiving end. As a ''Tarbosaurus'', Speckles is normally a dominant predator that other dinosaurs tend to run away from, but One Eye's presence causes Speckles to enter a state of shock and either cower or try to run away for the most part. It's justified in that as One Eye is a ''Tyrannosaurus'', he's stronger than a usual ''Tarbosaurus'' and Speckles tends to go into shock encountering the very predator that killed his family. It isn't after he defeats One Eye that Speckles overcomes this issue.
* InterspeciesFriendship: In ''Journey to Fire Mountain'', Speckles forms an unlikely partnership with a ''Saichania'' named Cy when they realize they would have to work together to get through the desert they're stranded in. Initially, on frosty terms, Speckles and Cy do eventually become closer friends over time.
* JerkassRealization: During his travels with Cy and Fang, Speckles comes to accept that his treatment towards Junior wasn't the best, he was lashing out at him because of his own past experience and desires to make up for his mistake when they reunite.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While [[TookALevelInJerkass he's become mentally jaded and harsh towards his son]], Speckles does desire to protect Junior and ensure he can fend for himself in the future. His gruff and cynical attitude is also the main reason why he doesn't immediately get along with Cy and Fang, but he does eventually open up to them and admits that the losses he went through have made him overprotective and that he simply wants what is best for his son as well as gradually coming to see Cy and Fang as friends. Although it takes him some convincing on Fang's part, he does save a ''Pukongosaurus'' nesting ground from being raided by a ''Carnotaurus'' pack.
* LightningBruiser: Despite his size, Speckles can make quick attacks.
* TheLostLenore: His childhood friend and mate, [[spoiler: Blue Eyes, dies when their children are still young. Speckles also thinks back on Blue Eyes in the sequel as he imagines her through a reflection in a lake, lamenting his difficulty in trying to take care of Junior.]]
* MommasBoy: In the short time they're seen together, Speckles is very close with his mother, likely because she's the sole parental figure he has. Tellingly, when One Eye kills Speckles's family, its his mother's death that hurts Speckles the most.
* NotAfraidOfYouAnymore: When flashing back to his mother's death during his fight against One Eye, Speckles regains his strength and confidence and manages to thrash and dominate One Eye, finally defeating his usurper for the first time and driving the evil tyrannosaur away. The next time they meet, Speckles has gotten over his fear of One Eye and shows more concern for the safety of his son during their next fight.
* OrphansOrdeal: He is left all on his own when One Eye kills his family and usurps his homeland. Given that he's a baby at that point, Speckles struggles to even hunt small critters and even scavenge, usually resulting in close brushes with death. It's not until he meets Blue Eyes that Speckles finally has some luck going with his life.
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: [[spoiler:By the end of the first film, Speckles Jr. is the only one of his children who survives with him; one of his children is crushed to death by a falling boulder during a volcanic eruption and the other is killed by One Eye who violently headbutts the child onto a cliff and into the sea.]]
* PapaWolf: He'll do anything to protect his children. {{Deconstructed|Trope}} in ''Journey to Fire Mountain'' as because he's still haunted by the deaths of his family, insistence, and desperation towards Junior, Speckles ends up being irate and unintentionally emotionally abusive towards his son.
* ParentsAsPeople: Or rather, ''Parents as Dinosaurs''; while it's clear that Speckles loves his son and would do whatever it takes to protect him and raise him until adulthood, his own trauma of losing his family, mate, and two other children as well as never having had a father-figure causes him to be temperamental and unnecessarily harsh towards Junior when he doesn['t meet his expectations. Speckles didn't mean to come off as too mean, but it's clear that he's projecting his own issues toward his son and this causes problems in their relationship.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: He looks adorable as a baby with his blocky head and big eyes.
* ScavengersAreScum: {{Inverted|Trope}}; Speckles does scavenge dead animals, but this is because, with no one to look after him, he could only prey on insects and eggs (which are harder than they seem) and being without guidance, finding food is a difficult task, forcing him to find whatever dead animal he could to keep himself well-fed. He would grow out of this by the time he reached adulthood.
* SoleSurvivor: One Eye kills his family in a sudden stampede engineered by him and Speckles has to watch them get killed from a distance. [[DeconstructedTrope The event leaves Speckles as a vulnerable child who struggles to survive without any help or guidance and is terrified at the idea of encountering One Eye again]]. Even as an adult, Speckles's fear of One Eye remains until he finally defeats the vile tyrannosaur in their penultimate fight.
* TerrifyingTyrannosaur: [[DownplayedTrope While he's the hero of his story and is mostly sympathetic]], Speckles is an apex predator and is not picky about what he has to hunt for prey. As a result, most herbivores either bolt away or take a defensive stance whenever he shows up. In the sequel, he terrifies Cy in their first encounter, though it's gradually subverted as Speckles starts to befriend the ankylosaur and doesn't mind his son being friends with a ''Monoclonius''.
* TookALevelInJerkass: His attempts to raise Junior prove to be stressful, but it's his fear of losing his only child and the grief of losing his mate and other two children that cause Speckles to become irate and harsh towards his son, unintentionally becoming abusive as a result. His frustration over Junior failing to kill his prey leads to Speckles calling his son a "disgrace", which drives a wedge in their relationship.
* TookALevelInKindness: Speckles undergoes this after his son is kidnapped and forced into companionship with Cy and Fang during their journey to save Junior. While initially dismissive, he eventually opens up about his troubles and makes a point to try to be a better father to his child.
* YouthfulFreckles: It's how he got his name "Speckles"; he has spotty marks around his snout that emphasize his youth and energetic nature at least up until he is orphaned.

[[folder:One Eye]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/one_eye_speckles.png]]
[[BigBad The primary antagonist]]. A ''Tyrannosaurus rex'' who usurped Speckles's home by killing his family. One Eye is a ruthless, bloodthirsty creature who hounds Speckles to no end.
----
* ArchEnemy: Given what he does to Speckles, it's no surprise they despise one another.
* ArtisticLicensePaleontology: Well, it's a ''Tyrannosaurus rex'' in Korea. Beyond that, however, One Eye and Speckles first know each other when the latter is an infant and they still clash against one another when Speckles is an adult. One Eye is already an adult during Speckles's infancy. The biologically oldest tyrannosaur remains are estimated to be around 28.5 years old, with the average maximum life expectancy being 30. Yes, One Eye is about 10-20 years older than a normal ''Tyrannosaurus''.
* AssholeVictim: [[spoiler:Considering what he does to Speckles throughout the entire film, it's immensely satisfying to see One-Eye get caught by a pair of tylosaurs to be a snack]].
* AxCrazy: One Eye is a deranged being by animal standards and will pull no stops when driven to his goals.
* TheBerserker: Crosses between this and [[GeniusBruiser being analytical]], but One-Eye is an engine of strength all the way.
* TheDreaded: Speckles does his best to distance himself from One-Eye as much as possible, all the way from infancy to adulthood. And even then, One-Eye's presence severely rattles Speckles, given what he did to his family.
* {{Expy}}: One-Eye has two of them; [[WesternAnimation/TheLandBeforeTime The Sharptooth]] and [[WesternAnimation/TheLionKing1994 Scar]]. Regarding the former, both of them kill the protagonist's mother and are hellbent on chasing or tormenting them (if one was to interpret Sharptooth's action in the [[AdaptationalVillainy book adaptation]]). For the latter, they usurp the protagonist's homeland and stop at nothing to cause him misery, in addition to One-Eye and Scar being rather smart for their species.
* EvilCounterpart: The film goes out of its way to contrast Speckles and One Eye. They're both apex predators and are tyrannosaurids, meaning they have the same body design and hunting tools, but that's where their similarities end. Speckles is a heroic character who looks after his family, is capable of showing affection and sympathy, and only hunts for sustenance. One Eye, on the other hand, is a villain who lives and hunts entirely on his own, is unnaturally violent and malicious for a predator, and most of his kills are less for food and more out of enjoyment, petty vindication, and knocking out any competition he comes across.
* EvilOldFolks: He was already a full grown heavily scarred adult when Speckles was a kid and survives long enough to continue hunting and fighting adult Speckles.
* EyeScream: He has a scar over his left eye, which is blinded, thus his name, ''One Eye''.
* ForTheEvulz: Some of his kills and actions come off as this. While territorial usurpation is naturally understandable for predators, One Eye goes overkill with it by causing a stampede, killing an entire family of predators when just slaughtering the mother would have been enough to drive away her children. His stalking Speckles and Blue Eyes also comes off as this as there's no practical reason for him to do this and it seems like an act of sheer pettiness and sadism.
* GeniusBruiser: While One-Eye is strong and reflexive, he's also rather quick-witted and analytic of his environment. He uses his mind to trap an Ankylosaur's tail club and disable a Therizinosaur's claws by having it jammed onto a tree, allowing the tyrannosaur an easy kill. And of course, two different stampedes to kill his rivals.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: He has a large scar over his left eye to tell the audience that he is really bad news.
* HateSink: One-Eye's actions and personality are so vindictive and cruel that he easily manages to break the mold of Tyrannosaur-based villains being EvilIsCool. Most of the time he is on-screen mainly highlights how despicable and vile of an animal he is.
* HistoricalBadassUpgrade: Yes, ''Tyrannosaurus rex'' was an apex predator and among the most advanced dinosaurs of its time, but the amount of intelligence One-Eye displays is pretty similar to the raptors of ''Film/JurassicPark''. He even gets to square off against a pair of Tarbosaurs, themselves apex predators and nearly the same size as Tyrannosaurus, and still be on the winning side.
* JustDesserts: [[spoiler:One-Eye is suddenly caught by a pair of tylosaurs during his final battle against Speckles whereupon he is dragged underwater to be devoured. [[AssholeVictim He more than had it coming]]]].
* KarmicDeath: Whenever One Eye kills someone, he makes sure to have his victims under helpless circumstances, such as knocking a boulder onto an ''Ankylosaurus's'' tail, having Speckles's mother under hold as he pushes her to a cliffside with his superior strength, tricking a ''Therizinosaurus'' into stabbing and trapping its claws unto a tree, [[spoiler:and throwing one of Speckles's children into the ocean when the child clearly cannot defend itself. One Eye himself ends up being caught under the jaws of a ''Tylosaurus'' and because he's a land animal, he can do nothing but thrash around in vain as he's dragged to the ocean depths to be devoured. Bonus points to One Eye having bought the situation to himself when he threatened to Kill Speckles Jr. and his resulting fight with Speckles led the two predators to having their final bout in the waters]].
* KickTheDog: One Eye makes a hobby out of antagonizing Speckles for the hell of it.
** He kills his family in an engineered stampede and Speckles can only watch as his brother, sisters, and mother are slowly killed off by an uncaring, petty usurper.
** He chases Speckles away a couple of times in their first encounters, usually when the young tarbosaur is desperate to get food, not to mention One Eye almost kills him on those times.
** He invades a hunting spot Speckles and Blue Eyes decided to occupy for no other reason than to just torment the latter. Even getting caught in quicksand doesn't stop the tyrannosaur, he simply breaks out as his way of forcing the tarbosaur pair to leave.
** After knocking Speckles off a cliff, he tries to [[AttemptedRape force himself onto Blue Eyes]]. Speckles did mention that One Eye was looking for a mate, but this was just an act of pure spite.
** [[spoiler:Upon noticing Speckles's children, the first thing One Eye does is to kill one of them by flinging it onto a cliffside and is about to do the same to Speckles Jr. before his father shows up. Before this, Speckles had to watch another one of his children and Blue Eyes die.]]
* KnightOfCerebus: Whenever One Eye appears, it's hell for Speckles and his companions.
* MisplacedWildlife: Tyrannosaurus was an animal that was native to North America. The film is set in South Korea.
* PredatorsAreMean: One Eye is overtly vicious, even for a predator.
* RedIsViolent: One-Eye has a bright reddish hide, and he is a vindictive, bloodthirsty tyrannosaur hellbent on making Speckles's life miserable.
* {{Sadist}}: If his enmity towards Speckles is any indication, One Eye gets enjoyment out of tormenting him for years to the point where he would hound the tarbosaur for years, never really giving him a moment of peace.
* TheSociopath: Even for a normal predator One-Eye shows signs of this. He's a petty, brutal, and ruthless T. rex who apparently hunts more for fun than for food and he's willing to kill any dinosaur who could usurp his alpha status showing some narcissistic side.
* SuperPersistentPredator: One Eye is an [[ExaggeratedTrope overblown case]]. Even after killing all of his family, he doesn't stop chasing after and hounding Speckles. To put it in perspective, One Eye would leave his own territory just to hurt Speckles and Blue Eyes. And he's been doing this for 20 years.
* TerrifyingTyrannosaur: Easily among the most malicious ''T. rex''es in media, up along the likes of [[WesternAnimation/TheLandBeforeTime The Sharptooth]]. He is shown to be even stronger than the ''Tarbosaurus'' family and TheDreaded among all dinosaurs.
* TheUsurper: He kills Speckles' family in an effort to take over their territory for himself and does it in a way that would make [[WesternAnimation/TheLionKing1994 Scar]] proud.
* VillainousValor: {{Downplayed|Trope}}; he doesn't continue to fight Speckles after being defeated for the first time. And while he finally dies in their final fight, One Eye goes down fighting against Speckles to the very end, his defeat coming from circumstances out of his control. Despite his tenacity, there's not much in the way of valor when your main aim by then was to target the child of your opponent.
* WouldHurtAChild: [[spoiler:One-Eye, presumably out of petty vengeance, decides to kill one of Speckle's children by flinging him off a cliff, and [[KickTheDog this is sometime after Speckles lost his mate and another child of theirs]]]].
* YouKilledMyFather: How about every single one of Speckles's family during his infancy? Although whenever Speckles fights him, it's more to defend himself and his loved ones than revenge really.

[[folder:Blue Eyes]]
[[quoteright:617:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_8613_8.png]]
A female ''Tarbosaurus'' with brown scales and [[MeaningfulName blue eyes]]. Like Speckles, she was orphaned at a young age, and the two started a romance.
----
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: She and Speckles stuck together ever since they were children. When they grew older, they became a mated pair.
* CommonalityConnection: Both Blue Eyes and Speckles are young ''Tarbosaurus'' who are completely on their own and and struggle to survive. They immediately decide to stick together for survival.
* HappilyMarried: She and Speckles eventually mate and have kids. [[spoiler:Which makes the deaths of all but one of their kids and the death of Blue Eyes herself all the more heartbreaking]].
* MeaningfulName: Guess what color her eyes are?
* TooHungryToBePolite: When a young Speckles offers her his food, she wastes no time eating as much as she can.

[[folder:Speckles's Family]]
* BadassFamily: They are a family of ''Tarbosaurus'' who all hunt together.
* BigDamnHeroes: Quicks and the twins show up in the nick of time to defend Speckles from a fierce ''Therizinosaurus''.
* IdenticalTwinIDTag: Speckles’ twin sisters look mostly alike, but one sister has blue eyes while the other has green eyes.
* NoNameGiven: Speckles’ brother Quicks is the only family member with a name. His mother and twin sisters are not given a proper name.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Speckle's Offsprings]]
* DeathOfAChild: ImprobableInfantSurvival is averted hard in this movie as one sibling dies when getting crushed by a rock in a cave during the volcanic eruption (the same one that results in their mother Blue Eyes getting a fatal leg injury) while the other is thrown off a cliff by One Eye and falls into the sea.
* NoNameGiven: Neither of the two ''Tarbosaurus'' siblings are given names.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Speckles Jr.]]
----
* AscendedExtra: While he was just the sole surviving member of Speckles’s family in the first movie, the second movie makes him the main character.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: He looks almost exactly like his father when he was young, complete with some speckles on his face.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Velociraptors]]
[[quoteright:1000:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_8645.png]]
* Small, carnivorous dinosaurs that Speckles calls “outlaws”.
----
* CirclingVultures: A flightless variant, they stalk the herd during the migration, waiting for exhausted dinosaurs to die, including a ''Pukyongosaurus'' and the fatally injured Blue Eyes.
* FeatheredFiend: They have feathers on their heads ([[ArtisticLicensePaleontology and only on their heads]]), and they are nasty little creatures.
* RaptorAttack: They have pronated hands, and their only feathers are “mohawks” on their heads, but they are much more accurately sized than the raptors of ''Film/JurassicPark''.

[[folder:Blue]]
[[quoteright:769:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_8677.png]]

[[folder:Cy]]
[[quoteright:1000:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_8729.png]]
* ALizardNamedLiz: Cy is supposed to be a Saichania. A rare example where the character name and animal name is spelled differently even though it is pronounced like the first part of the animal’s name regardless of spelling.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Blade]]
