[[folder:Prehistoric Earth Staff]]
!!Drew
Hired to acquire the animals of a prehistoric wildlife park. He travels to the past alongside several friends in order to bring extinct prehistoric creatures back to life.
* AloneAmongTheCouples: Becomes this at the end of the story after [[spoiler: he and Cynthia end up breaking up]]. [[DownplayedTrope He doesn't seem to mind this though]].
* AmicableExes: Ends up becoming this with Cynthia ultimately decides to leave the park to go after the escaped Percival von Grimm and do her own thing afterward, and they both mutually decide to break up to avoid the drama of a long distance relationship. Notably, Drew and Cynthia are the only OfficialCouple in this story that ends up breaking up.
* BadassBookworm: Knows all about the prehistoric creatures he's about to face and constantly tries to capture them. Most of the time, he succeeds.
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Cynthia (although neither party entirely necessarily recognizes it as such just yet...[[OfficialCouple until they eventually do]]).
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Cynthia to an extent. They both show tendencies for being rather hot headed and [[LeeroyJenkins rushing into situations head-on without thinking]].
* ControlFreak: After the Novum board started being more involved in management, he became this.
* DeadpanSnarker: Has his moments.
* {{Determinator}}: He will NOT allow any animal that could become extinct to be left behind. One of the arthropleura will vouch for him there (not hard to do considering he bronco rode it in the midst of a swamp fire). Granted, he will allow his friends the opportunity to go back to the present and save themselves when things get especially dangerous. Whether or not they take him up on this offer is their choice entirely.
* {{Expy}}: Think of him as a [[TimeTravel time-traveling]] [[Series/CrocodileHunter Steve Irwin]].
* FatalFlaw: His recklessness and impatience can lead him to make some rather... ill-thought out decisions. For example, frequently using himself as bait when bringing back large carnivores. [[spoiler: As of ''Nightmare Labyrinthine'', he has proven himself to have become well aware of this and decided that he needs to start planning things out more after his recklessness leads to him being briefly marooned in a post KT Event landscape.]]
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Leon and Adrian.
* HotBlooded
* IndyPloy: Frequently.
* TheKirk
* TheLeader: Takes on this role in every mission.
* OfficialCouple: With Cynthia. [[spoiler: And notably the only one of the three in this story that doesn't last to the end of the story.]]
* RedOniBlueOni: He's the hot-tempered, reckless red to Leon's calmer, more methodical blue.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Granted, there are people with higher authority than him, but he is nevertheless a firm, but fair, and ultimately reasonable leader to the members of the rescue gang.
* ShellShockedVeteran: He may not have fought in battle, but being stuck on Earth during the Cretaceous-Paleocene Extinction has left its scars.
* TrueCompanions: With Leon, Adrian, Alice, and Jack.

!!Kyle Taymor
The Head Keeper of the park. In charge of cleaning, feeding, and taking care of the resident animals. Consequently, he often suffers the shenanigans that happened in the park.
* AscendedExtra: After spending multiple episodes without playing much of a big role, Kyle is amongst the group trying to take care of the unauthorized additional t-rex brought in by the Novum black-ops unit as a distraction for their attempted time portal theft in ''The Devil's Here''; [[BackForTheFinale the apparent final episode]].
* BackForTheFinale: See AscendedExtra above.
* ButtMonkey: Usually on the receiving end of whatever bad things that the prehistoric creatures brought.
* DeadpanSnarker: One of the fic's most prodigious snarkers, along with Jack, Nikolai, Collete, and Leon.
* DemotedToExtra
* DrillSergeantNasty: Not exactly 'nasty' per se, but he does have his drill sergeant moments every now and then (particularly when involved in construction of new exhibits).
* {{Expy}}: A lot of his personality is based on John Luther.
* INeedAFreakingDrink: Says this word for word to Nikolai after the arrival of the pterygotus.
* OnlySaneMan: The one who usually complains to Drew whenever he's planning to bring back the dangerous creatures back to the park.
** Subverted in the first mission, as he was actually hoping for something large and dangerous to be the first target, and was more than a little annoyed that the target turned out to be the small and unexciting Haikouichthys instead.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Despite initial annoyance at the choice of main target for the first mission, he eventually comes around. He is also not at all swayed into showing leniency for Leon and Jack when they try to convince him to allow them to be let off the hook and avoid having to personally work as handlers for the dunkleosteus as a punishment.

!!Nikolai Koshkin
Head of security, and used to be a member of the Spetsnaz.
* BackForTheFinale: After a decent amount of time spent OutOfFocus, he is once again back to serving a major role in the story just in time for the finale.
* BoringButPractical: Nikolai's viewpoint behind having the small and not entirely exciting Haikouichthys be the first target as opposed to something more dangerous (much to Kyle's consternation).
* CurbStompBattle: Ed, this guy spent many years in the SPETSNAZ. Did you really think you'd stand a chance against him?
* DarkAndTroubledPast: He does not like to talk about his past in the Spetsnaz.
* DemotedToExtra: As the series went on.
* EmbarrassingNickname: Certainly views Kyle's nickname for him (Koli) as such.
* {{Expy}}: Based off a character from a Primeval Novel (and has a similar backstory to boot!).
* HiddenDepths: Despite his rather gruff outward exterior and demeanor, he is actually a pretty nice guy. Jack himself experiences these depths firsthand after the acquisition of the animals from the Carboniferous Period.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Can be gruff and sometimes seem like a jerkass; but in the end, his heart is in the right place.
* PrecisionFStrike:
--> (After seeing Jack in the midst of a particularly nutty idea): Denham, what the bloody fuck are you doing?!
* ProperlyParanoid: He turns out to be quite right in his longstanding suspicions of sabotage; and is subsequently very much prepared to avoid falling victim to Ed's attempted surprise attack against him after his suspicions are vindicated by news granted by commlink calls from both Kyle and Yolanda.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Takes the time to (relatively) calmly explain to Drew and Jack the importance of using their communicators to warn the park staff (especially security) ahead of time when he greets them upon return in "The First Steps" after they end up sending an extra cameroceras and a small group of massive pterygotus through the time portal without warning.

!!Leon Gilbertson
One of the younger keepers of the park, a close friend of Drew's, and the park's resident animal expert.
* AcquiredSituationalNarcissism: While mostly rather humble, he can occasionally have his moments of this when things go particularly well for him.
* ADayInTheLimelight:
** He's the focus for the "back at the park" segments of "The First Steps".
** He also goes on a solo mission of his own over the course of ''Ten to Midnight'' at the same time Drew, Adrian, and Alice are away on another mission.
* AloneAmongTheCouples: Lightly implied to feel this way after Drew and Cynthia and Jack and Colette romantically pair up.
* BadassBookworm: Has his moments (especially when he's able to face his fears, not to mention if Yolanda's life lies in the balance).
* BeastAndBeauty: While he doesn't fit the traditional (meaning physical) definition of the 'Beast', he nonetheless more than qualifies for this role alongside Yolanda's 'Beauty'.
* TheBeastMaster: Acts somewhat like this in regards to Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion the allosaurs.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Usually prefers not to fight. But he does not take kindly to insults to himself, or his friends. And if you do wrong to Yolanda Hall . . . God help you.
* BigDamnHeroes:
** In ''The First Steps'', he jumps in to help save Yolanda from a group of rescued predatory aquatic scorpions. [[NegatedMomentOfAwesome Granted, he did end up needing additional help from Mia and Hedetet]], but the intent still counts.
** Arrives with the now finally properly trained allosaurus squad in time for them to be used to help but a stop to the mass carnivore breakout during ''A Nightmare Labyrinthine''.
** Manages, [[FromACertainPointOfView in a roundabout way]], to work alongside Sharptooth to save Yolanda from getting killed and eaten by a dinofelis.
* BrainyBrunette: Brown hair? Check. Large amount of knowledge on animals? Check. Genius moments every now and then? Check.
* BreakTheHaughty: While downplayed in that he is nowhere as haughty and arrogant as most examples, his experiences in "Life in Transition" and "Alien Empire" are enough to humble him somewhat when it comes to working with Jack.
* BrutalHonesty: If he lived in the world from the Divergent Series, he'd be right at home in the Candor faction.
* ButtMonkey: One of the two main ones in this series (the other being Jack). He even lampshades this during the events of "Alien Empire."
-->(After he and Jack are forced into ending their stalling tactics by an annoyed keeper lowering the barrier in the dunkleosteus enclosure preventing the two fish from directly encountering each other) Leon: (to Jack) Why is it always us?
* CowardlyLion: Can get quite nervous in the appropriate circumstances (and sometimes not so appropriate circumstances), but can always be counted on to get the job done.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Was bullied in school for being autistic before he met and befriended Drew, Adrian, and Yolanda. It's why he snaps at Jack in "Life In Transition".
* DeadpanSnarker: Quite so.
* {{Determinator}}: Nervous as he can be, he's not one to give up easily.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: For the series overall; his role greatly outweighs that of the other characters (aside from Drew, he has been on the most missions) and his story arcs are given equal attention to Drew's:
** In Phase 1, he starts forming the beginnings of a close bond with Yolanda, takes his first steps at [[TookALevelInBadass taking a level in badass]], and has vicious tensions against Jack that serve a prominent role in the phase.
** In Phase 2, he shares this role with Jack. But while Jack is busy with his own arcs, Leon further extends his [[TookALevelInBadass work at improving himself and his skills]] by training a trio of allosaurus to obey him on command in time for them to play a significant role in putting a stop to the mass breakout.
** In Phase 3, he shares this role with Alice. But while Alice is busy with her own arcs, Leon gets a RomanceArc with Yolanda [[spoiler: and plays a significant role in the finale]].
* DudeNotFunny: Does NOT share Jack's sense of humor.
* EnemyMine:
** While downplayed in that he and Alice are never enemies themselves, they both have a mutual dislike of Collete.
** The potential of a more traditional example occurring between him and [[TeethClenchedTeamwork Collete]] is something that a large number of Prehistoric Earth staff hopes to never be fulfilled.
* FireForgedFriends: With Jack (although admittedly, it's more of a fire forged vitriolic best buds kind of deal; [[spoiler: until Storm in the Desert that is]]).
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Hopes to be this for all the animals at Prehistoric Earth. Due to needing time to get used to all the animals present and to come, as well as a noticeable wariness around some types of invertebrate, he has a lot of work to do to reach this point.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Adrian and Drew.
* HiddenDepths: He may seem solitary and difficult to get to know at times, but once you really get to know him and earn his trust, respect, and friendship, he's actually a decent enough guy in his own right.
* IDontLikeYouAndYouDontLikeMe: He and Colette do NOT get along very well (much to Jack's despair).
* IJustWantToBeLoved: Shows signs of this during 'Age of Giants' when he finds himself feeling like a 3rd wheel to Drew and Cynthia.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Felt this way for quite a while before he met Drew and Adrian. Still fears the possibility of someday returning to that state every now and then.
* IJustWantToBeBadass: Is worried about being seen as the "useless one"; this is part of the reason why he starts training the allosaurs. [[spoiler: And judging by his current success with the allosaurs, he may very well finally be moving past his [[TheLoad reputation as "the useless one."]]]]
* InsecureLoveInterest: Is very much aware of his own supposed inadequacies and feels very nervous and uncertain about how/whether Yolanda could at all possibly return his feelings for her as a result.
* InsufferableGenius:
** Collete certainly thinks so. Most others disagree.
** Jack seems to think of him as such in "Life in Transition."
* InsultBackfire: Epically so in the following exchange.
-->Collete: "Must you be so smart?"
-->Leon: "Flattery will get you nowhere."
* JerkassHasAPoint: While he could have been a little more patient with Jack, could have kept a better handle on his temper so as to pay better attention to the radar (not to mention that Jack had a pretty good point of his own), you can hardly blame him for feeling a little uncertain as to whether Jack was taking the mission at hand (at the time) seriously with his overly joking and seemingly carefree behavior. And furthermore, Jack could have also handled the subject with Yolanda a little more delicately as well.
* LaserGuidedKarma: After his ill timed confrontation with Jack almost gets Drew killed by a Dunkleosteus, he has to work with Jack yet again in handling the Dunkleosteus at the park the very next mission as punishment.
* LamePunReaction: Mia's thoughts on his 'Apatoscorpio' joke.
* LargeHam: Gloriously so (when excited that is).
* LetUsNeverSpeakOfThisAgain: He is very insistent that Drew NOT tell Yolanda about his unpleasant (and somewhat embarrassing) incident with the Megalograptus.
* TheLoad: Jack somewhat (and later flat out) accuses him of being this during an argument in "Life in Transition," and it's not hard to agree with him. Has been working to shake off this reputation ever since though, and has finally succeeded as of the end of ''Nightmare Labyrinthine''.
* MeaningfulName: Leon is Spanish for lion. Considering his CowardlyLion nature and one particular favorite animal of his, this name is quite appropriate.
* {{Nepotism}}: Many people believe this is the reason he was hired; Jack even says it to his face in "Life In Transition". [[spoiler: Leon even later admits during "Storm in the Desert" that Jack [[JerkassHasAPoint was not entirely wrong to think such]].]]
* NiceGuy: When he lets his walls down, he's actually a perfectly decent guy in his own right.
* NoRespectGuy: Despite his efforts, his past experiences combined with the inherent nature of his idea for training the allosaurs has left him stuck in this position as of "Feathered Dragons." [[spoiler: Finally no longer be the case as of his major successes with the allosaurs as of the end of Phase 2; and his later success in a solo run during ''Ten To Midnight'' certainly helps as well.]]
* NoSocialSkills: Being autistic, he's hardly the most socially adept.
* NotGoodWithRejection: Tends to struggle at times with his fear of being rejected by others (including by his own friends (as well as by Yolanda)) for being 'weird' and 'a freak' and of people only liking the 'normal person' they might want him to be rather than for who/what he already is. In fact, one of the biggest reasons it takes him so long to tell Yolanda how he feels about her is his fear of her rejecting him for a 'normal' and 'more attractive' neurotypical.
* OffscreenMomentOfAwesome: He and Jack manage to somehow play cupid for the hyneria without major incident despite being unwittingly given an appropriate book on animal husbandry that's written in French and forced to IndyPloy their way through.
* OfficialCouple: With Yolanda. [[spoiler: And he's still her boyfriend at the end of the story.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Despite his autism and difficulties in life, he's usually able to always bounce back relatively easily. In the rare event that he fails to bounce back within a few days or hours . . . well to put it simply, something's seriously wrong. Doubly true in the rare event that he gets sad enough to cry.
* OppositesAttract: With Yolanda, full stop.
* PrecisionFStrike: In the rare event that he swears, it's always for damned good reason.
--> (When he and several of his peers learn the hard way of some particularly unpleasant news): "Oh Hell."
* RescueRomance: He and Yolanda finally confess and hook up after he saves her (with some assistance from Sharptooth) from an escaped Dinofelis.
* RoarBeforeBeating: A rare human example (though his roars certainly do sound realistically enough like whatever animal he's imitating at the time), and only if angry enough. And he'll also roar DURING the beating as well.
* SarcasmBlind: To an extent.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: The savvy guy to Yolanda's energetic girl.
* ShipTease: With Yolanda. [[OfficialCouple He eventually becomes her boyfriend at the end of ''Anthropomorphous Apes''.]]
* SingleTargetSexuality: Yolanda is literally the only girl he shows even the TINIEST amount of romantic interest in. Romantically speaking, he just plain WON'T look any other girl's way.
--> Drew: What is it about Yolanda that's got you so twitterpated? There were plenty of other girls just as pretty and nice as her back in school you know.
--> Leon: They weren't Yolanda.
* TheSmartGuy: Knows virtually every animal, extinct or otherwise, backward and forward. This makes him an invaluable member of the park's staff.
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: Except for when swimming (and good thing for Yolanda to).
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: Ok, calling it fluent may be pushing it. But nonetheless, his imitations/impersonations of animal vocalizations are unnervingly realistic.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Sometimes feels this way around Jack. Feels this way even more so in regard to Collete.
** In the case of the former, this very trait comes back to bite both him and Jack hard when it almost costs Drew his life.
* ThisIsGonnaSuck: Shows spades of this more than once.
** While he doesn't say anything after Drew asks him and Jack why they took so long to react during the Dunkleosteus crisis, his silence, combined with his running away after Jack's shaky excuse screams this trope.
--> (After learning of one of Jack's newest ideas): "This should be nothing short of a disaster."
--> (During a tense moment in another mission): (at Drew, and completely deadpan) "We are going to die."
* TookALevelInBadass: In "The First Steps"; just in time to save Yolanda's life too!
** May have happened again with his experiences with the Dunkleosteus and Hyneria in "Alien Empire."
** ''Definitely'' the case as of ''Nightmare Labyrinthine''. [[spoiler: Having a trio of 'trained' allosaurus around to help you out certainly gives off that kind of impression]].
* TrueCompanions: With Drew, Adrian, Jack, and Alice.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Jack. [[spoiler: Although this has started to become less of a case as of "Storm in the Desert."]]
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: After an unpleasant experience with some Megalograptus in "Devils of The Deep", he becomes terrified of them and other scorpion-like animals. He eventually gets better (thanks in no small part to Yolanda and Mia).
* YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe: His overall reaction after learning of the mission to follow "Devils of the Deep."

!!Adrian Sky
One of the younger keepers of the park, and another close friend of Drew.
* ADayInTheLimelight: Finally gets to play a major role in a mission during ''10 to Midnight'' after ''multiple episodes'' of being out of focus.
* AsianAndNerdy: Is of Malaysian descent, and has just the right intelligence level needed for a guy of his job description.
* BackForTheFinale: Manages to play a major role in the finale three episodes of the story after spending a massive amount of the story out of focus. He even manages to [[spoiler: [[SpannerInTheWorks single-handedly make things more difficult for Duncan and the black-ops unit by catching them in the act of stealing the time portal and successfully sounding the alarm in spite of their efforts at preventing him from doing so by tasing him]]]].
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Only very briefly appears at the beginning of ''A Glorious Dawn'' before then inexplicably vanishing for the remainder of the episode.
* DemotedToExtra: Courtesy of being increasingly out of focus due to Jack's [[BreakoutCharacter unexpectedly being promoted to the role originally intended for him]].
* EpicFail: See below.
* FailedASpotCheck: In "Life in Transition," he spends a respectable amount of time searching around a swampy area for large amphibians (such as the target species, Hynerpeton) and comes back empty handed. As Alice soon points out afterward, he didn't even try to look for them under the water.
* TheGenericGuy: Nathanoraptor's own thoughts about him.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Has a dynamic that very strongly shows shades of this with Leon and Drew.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: Views Yolanda as the sister he never had. The feeling is mutual. Alice, much like Yolanda, also somewhat views him as this.
* OutOfFocus: Tends to happen very often to him.
* SarcasmBlind: Strangely enough, even more so than Leon.
* ShipperOnDeck: Big time shipper of Leon and Yolanda, and is not above teasing them or making efforts at strengthening their bond into romantic territory.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: After all his time out of focus prior, he's the one who [[spoiler: ultimately catches Duncan and the black-ops team in the act of stealing the time portal and sounds the alarm in spite of their efforts to stop him from doing so]].
* SpannerInTheWorks: [[spoiler: Not only does he end up catching Duncan and the black-ops unit in the act of stealing the time portal, but he also manages, despite their attempts at stopping him from doing so by tasing him, to sound the alarm]].
* TokenMinority: He's the only non-white member of the rescue team.
* TrueCompanions: With Drew, Leon, Jack, and Alice.

!!Jack Denham
One of the younger keepers of the park.
* ADayInTheLimelight: Is the focus of the "back at the park" segments in "Passport To Hell".
* ActuallyPrettyFunny: Can't help but let out a brief laugh after hearing Leon's unexpected response to Collete's attempt at using his intelligence as a means to insult him.
* AmazonChaser: While far from the only reason he is attracted to her, the fact that Collete can certainly kick ass certainly helps.
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: His older sister Alice sometimes views him as this.
* BreakoutCharacter: He quickly became extremely popular; consistently ranking high in popularity polls.
* ButtMonkey: One of the two main ones in this series (the other being Leon).
* DemotedToExtra: He goes from being the deuteragonist in Phase Two, to having a much smaller role in Phase Three.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: He shares the role with Leon in Phase Two. In it, he takes a significant level in badass, gets a romance arc with Collete and helps take down Sharptooth.
* DeadpanSnarker: Has his moments.
* DistractedByTheSexy: Tends to happen to him every now and then when Collete's around.
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: In "The First Steps":
-->"Oh great, we awoke Cthulhu!"
* DudeNotFunny: Sometimes ends up on the receiving end of this when he attempts one of his jokes around Leon.
* FallGuy: Judging from her behavior and comments involving him in multiple 'episodes', Cynthia seems to potentially be trying to set him up as such. [[spoiler: Subverted; Cynthia turns out to actually be a spy working for ''[[BigGood Theodore]]''. Her behavior towards Jack was because she thought he was the villainous Novum board's spy she'd been sent to find and foil.]]
* FireForgedFriends: Becomes this with Leon.
* FriendVersusLover: Sometimes worries about the possibility of this occurring when he thinks about how Leon (his friend) and Collete (his object of affections) don't get along.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: The foolish sibling to Alice's responsible sibling.
* HiddenDepths: His inner thoughts in "Passport to Hell" reveal that he's actually quite a thoughtful person; he also manages to solve every problem the park had had in that story.
** In "Spirits of the Silent Forest", he masterminds the plan to get the orphaned juvenile Mei long adopted by one of the adult pairs. [[spoiler:It works]].
** In "All Great And Precious Things", "Age of Giants", "The Wavering Gulfs" and "A Continent of Blight", he is left in command of the mission team when Drew's gone and manages to do a pretty good job at it.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Is secretly very lonely.
* IndyPloy: A real master at 'pulling stuff out of your arse' plans. Collete learns a thing or two from him on that regard.
* InsufferableGenius: Pulls off such a moment at one point during "Life in Transition."
* JerkassHasAPoint: Whilst his TheReasonYouSuckSpeech to Leon in "Life In Transition" is rather mean-spirited in tone, it's not hard to agree with his points. At this point, Leon hasn't done anything that Jack is aware of that is indicative of actually being competent.
* LaserGuidedKarma: His punishment for almost getting Drew killed through ill timed antagonism against Leon? He not only has to personally handle the very creature that almost killed Drew, but ALSO has to work alongside Leon yet again.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: The feminine boy to Collete's masculine girl.
* MoralityPet: Can be interpreted as equal parts this and equal parts love interest where Collete is concerned.
* MotorMouth
* TheNicknamer: Calls the Pterygotus "Scorpio-zilla" and Drew "fearless leader".
* NiceGuy: Surprisingly, he's a rather friendly guy.
* NotGoodWithRejection: Due to how desperately he wants to have friends, any rejections he receives to offers of friendship can hit him pretty hard.
* OfficialCouple: With Collete. [[spoiler: And he's still her boyfriend at the end of the story.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Usually likes to joke around and tends to be very carefree. In the event that he sheds this behavior, it is not to be taken lightly.
* OppositesAttract: With Collete.
* PluckyComicRelief: He likes to think so. Alice and Leon say otherwise.
* SadClown: Constantly cracks jokes to hide his inner loneliness and desire to make friends.
* ShipTease: Starts to get a tiny bit of this with Collete in "Passport to Hell" before [[OfficialCouple eventually becoming her boyfriend by the end of Phase 2]].
* StepfordSmiler: Hinted in this exchange in The First Steps.
-->“Jokes are my coping mechanism, fearless leader. Make light of the humour in any situation and you’ll be OK."
** Confirmed by Alice in "Life In Transition".
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: With Leon several times, particularly in "Life In Transition". This comes back to bite him AND Leon HARD when it both almost gets Drew killed and leaves him forced to work with Leon again in handling the very fish that almost killed Drew.
* ThatCameOutWrong: Happens quite often (and to great hilarity) for him when around Colette.
* {{Tritagonist}}: In Phase One.
* TookALevelInBadass: Throughout Phase Two.
* TrueCompanions: With Alice, Leon, Adrian, and Drew.
* VitriolicBestBuds: After their experiences with the dunkleosteus and "Life in Transition", Jack and Leon become this; this is best shown in "Storm In The Desert", where they spend most of the mission fondly bickering.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: By the end of "The First Steps", he's become terrified of the Brontoscorpio.
* YouHaveGotToBeKiddingMe: His reaction in "The First Steps" when he learns that his frightened efforts at feeding the Brontoscorpio only successfully fed 12 (out of 36) of the Brontoscorpio on display (much to Leon's amusement).

!!Alice Denham
One of the younger keepers and Jack's older sister.
* AmbiguousSituation: It's deliberately made unclear whether she reciprocates Will's feelings for her. For the record, Yolanda seems to believe so.
* ActionGirl
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: Played with; whilst Will Darrow is head-over-heels in love with her, it is unclear whether she reciprocates the feelings. Certainly, some moments (especially in "The Anthropomorphous Apes" and "Beyond the Sea") indicate that she possibly might.
* AloofDarkHairedGirl: Aside from a couple friends, she somewhat fits this trope (particularly in her life before work at Novum and Prehistoric Earth).
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: As annoying as Jack can be in her point of view, he is still her brother, and she's always concerned when he's in trouble and relieved when he turns out to be alright.
* BigSisterInstinct: One of the contributing reasons to her own strong hatred of Collete.
* BrainyBrunette: Dark-haired, and pretty smart.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Shares the role with Leon in Phase Three - she gets a WillTheyOrWontThey ShipTease arc with Will, a bonding arc with Raksha and [[spoiler:is among the first to find out about Percival's infiltration of the park.]]
* EnemyMine: Downplayed in that they're already friends to begin with, but she and Leon have a mutual dislike of Collete.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: The responsible sibling to Jack's foolish sibling.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: Shows spades of this in her friendship with Yolanda.
* KeepingSecretsSucks: How she feels after [[spoiler: learning the truth behind Cynthia's hiring]].
* MaybeEverAfter: Her ultimate fate in regards to [[WillTheyOrWontThey her and Will]].
* ParentalSubstitute: With Will, to Raksha the bear-dog.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Invoked in "Life in Transtion" after a narrow escape from a Hyneria. Adrian soundly defies this idea.
* ShipTease: Gets this with Will, big time, in Phase Three.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Something of a tomboy, especially compared to Yolanda's girly girl.
* TownGirls: The neither to Yolanda's femme and Collete's butch.
* TrueCompanions: With Jack, Leon, Adrian, and Drew.
* WillTheyOrWontThey: With Will. And at the end, [[MaybeEverAfter it's never fully made clear whether they officially paired up or not]].

!!Linda Eberhart
The head-vet of the park. Tasked with treating the injured animals and looking after their health.
* ADayInTheLimeLight: Gets this treatment alongside Khatin in the "Back at the Park" segments of "Devil in the Deep Blue Sea."
* DemotedToExtra
* HospitalHottie
* KindlyVet
* ShipperOnDeck: Is quite approving of the idea of Yolanda and Leon being a couple, and is not above giving her a bit of friendly teasing on it every now and then (much like a mother would do).
* TeamMom: Is somewhat of a maternal figure to the younger members of the staff; in particular, there is a somewhat mother-daughter vibe between her and Yolanda.
* {{Tritagonist}}: Of Phase Two, along with Collete - she has a bonding arc with Cirrus the ornithocheirus and also plays a relatively prominent role in several subplots.

!!Yolanda Hall
Linda's assistant in the Prehistoric Earth veterinary division, and a close friend of Leon, Adrian, and the Denhams. Is particularly close (in more ways than one) with Leon.
* AscendedExtra: After almost disappearing entirely from the story over the course of Phase 2, she came roaring back into the spotlight with a vengeance during Phase 3.
* BeastAndBeauty: The 'Beauty' to Leon's 'Beast'.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: As nice as she is, you NEVER want to see her angry.
* DemotedToExtra: She seemed to disappear from the story for a long while after "Feathered Dragons". [[AscendedExtra She eventually returned]] in time to both welcome Drew back to the park at the end of ''Nightmare Labyrinthine'' and receive an ''especially'' heavy dosage of ship tease with Leon over the course of ''A Glorious Dawn'' before ''finally'' [[OfficialCouple hooking up with Leon]] at the end of ''Anthropomorphous Apes''.
* DamselInDistress: At the end of both "The First Steps" and ''Anthropomorphous Apes.
* GenkiGirl
* GenerationXerox: As noted by Drew, she and Linda look startlingly alike to the point that it's hard to believe that they're not related.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: With her, truer words couldn't be stated.
* KindlyVet: Takes after Linda in that regard.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: She and Adrian view each other as the sibling they never had.
* NiceGirl
* OfficialCouple: With Leon. [[spoiler: And she's still his girlfriend at the end of the story.]]
* OppositesAttract: Also with Leon.
* PutOnABus: Is put on bedrest to recover from a concussion obtained from her near death experience with the Brontoscorpio, thus leaving her out of the action during "Life in Transition." By the time "Alien Empire," she's recovered sufficiently enough to be out of bed and watching the Dunkleosteus from the safety of the underwater viewing area while Leon and Jack are put to work on handling them for the day.
* RescueRomance: She and Leon finally confess their feelings and hook up after Leon manages, in a roundabout way, to help Sharptooth save her from an escaped Dinofelis. The fact that he also helped save her from a swarm of brontoscorpio near the end of ''The First Steps'' was also one of the earliest moments of ship tease between them.
* ShipTease: Has a couple of moments with Leon in "The First Steps" and, later on, in "Feathered Dragons". She later has a ''very'' promising moment of such with him during ''A Glorious Dawn'' before finally [[OfficialCouple becoming his girlfriend at the end of ''Anthropomorphous Apes''.]]
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: While Leon's quirkiness and knowledge is what initially attracts Yolanda to him, his determination, passion, loyalty, bravery, and all the other traits of his that she discovers once he lets down his walls around her are what allow her to truly fall for him for real later on.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: The Energetic Girl, to Leon's Savvy Guy.
* TownGirls: The femme to Collete's butch and Alice's neither.
* {{Tritagonist}}: Shares the role with Will in Phase Three - she has a RomanceArc as Leon's love interest and forms a bond with Sharptooth.

!!Collete Dubois
A member of park security, and Nikolai's 'number two'.
* ActionGirl: Big time.
* DeadpanSnarker: Prodigiously.
* DemotedToExtra: Compared to Yolanda and Alice, she hasn't really been given much to do in the story.
* EnemyMine: To quote the following exchange:
-->Kyle: "I pity the fool stupid enough to make enemies out of both her AND Leon."
-->Nikolai: "Da, I can agree with you there. Let's hope such a person never exists."
* HiddenDepths: Has a sensitive and kind side that she's only comfortable with showing to Jack (and possibly Nikolai). In "Age of Giants", she's clearly concerned when regarding the seriously injured, dying Cirrus.
* IDontLikeYouAndYouDontLikeMe: Her dynamic with Leon practically RADIATES with this.
* ImNotHereToMakeFriends: Tends to be her default attitude when it comes to anyone at the park apart from Nikolai and Jack.
* InsultBackfire: Mostly averted when it comes to her interactions with Leon . . . with the exception of this one little gem:
-->Collete: "Must you be so smart?"
-->Leon: "Flattery will get you nowhere."
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: As much as she might act like a {{jerkass}} to multiple other characters, she has a hidden softer side that shows that her heart is ultimately in the right place.
* TheLancer: To Nikolai.
* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: Her comment to Jack in ''The New Giants'' about the two of them needing to spend more time together can easily be interpreted as a means of addressing how their relationship is open to interpretation as being StrangledByTheRedString.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: The masculine girl to Jack's feminine boy.
* OfficialCouple: With Jack. [[spoiler: And she's still his girlfriend at the end of the story.]]
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: If SHE'S terrified, you KNOW things are getting bad.
* OppositesAttract: With Jack.
* RuleOfFunny: Her reasoning for speeding up some of the parts of her recording of Jack and Leon's work with the dunkleosteus. Whether or not that truly makes the matter funny in anyone else's mind is debatable.
* SatelliteCharacter: She's a downplayed example of this to Jack.
* ShipTease: Gets this with Jack from "Passport to Hell" onwards, [[OfficialCouple and even becomes his girlfriend by the end of 'Phase 2'.]]
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Over time falls for Jack as a result of him being virtually the only one amongst the staff who sees past her walls and acts nice to her without being repelled by her behavior.
* SurroundedByIdiots: Feels this way a great deal of the time.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Sometimes has this feeling about working at the same establishment as Leon.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: A tomboy to Yolanda's girly girl.
* TownGirls: The butch to Yolanda's femme and Alice's neither.
* {{Tritagonist}}: Of Phase Two, along with Linda - she serves as Jack's love interest, appears in multiple subplots, and gets to work alongside him in putting an end to the mass breakout at the end of Phase 2.
* {{Tsundere}}: Quite often.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Leon tends to think this of her during his bad days. But while her hair IS platinum blonde, the black heart part is debatable.

!!Khatin Von Schorzberg
Chief of the Prehistoric Earth research division. Not the best at social skills, but more than makes up for it with his valuable knowledge and sheer brilliance.
* ADayInTheLimeLight: Gets this treatment alongside Linda during the 'Back at the Park' segments of "Devil and the Deep Blue Sea."
* CrazyEnoughToWork: His ultimate plan to help Squishy the Anomalocaris properly recover can qualify as this from the right viewpoint.
* DemotedToExtra: His last significant appearance was in "Spirits of The Silent Forest".
* AFatherToHisMen: Somewhat shows this dynamic around his underlings in the research division.
* GodzillaThreshold: Arguably the case for his final plan on how to help Squishy properly recover.
* TheSmartGuy: Shows this in spades amongst the older staff members of the park.

!!Matthew "Matt" Thompson
One of Khatin's assistants in the research division. Is also a close friend of Alice Denham and fellow research assistant Will Darrow.
* BrainyBrunette: Dark haired, and has the just right intelligence level needed as a member of the Prehistoric Park research division.
* DemotedToExtra: He has made very few, if any appearances, since his introduction.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Will and Alice.
* TheKnightsWhoSaySquee: LOVES working with synapsids.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: With Alice. To everyone else though . . .
* MistakenForRomance: He is often mistaken for Alice's boyfriend. Tragically so in Will's case.

!!Will Darrow
One of Khatin's assistants in the research division alongside Matt. Another close friend of Alice Denham.
* AscendedExtra: In Phase Three, he goes from supporting character to a full-on main cast member.
* DoggedNiceGuy: Of sorts.
* DemotedToExtra: Much like Matt, he hasn't appeared very much since his introduction. [[spoiler: Comes roaring into the spotlight during phase 3.]]
* GreenEyedMonster: Can get surprisingly jealous of Matt where Alice is concerned. Unlike most examples, however, he doesn't let his jealousy corrupt him and ruin his friendships with them.
* GuestStarPartyMember - Gets to travel back in time alongside Jack and Alice during "Full Fathom Five".
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Matt and Alice, although he'd like very much to take a step further than that where Alice is concerned.
* KeepingSecretsSucks: How he feels [[spoiler: after learning about the true reason Cynthia was hired]].
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: Played with; whilst his feelings for Alice are a key component of his character, it is unclear whether she reciprocates them, with some telling moments indicating that she might.
* MaybeEverAfter: The ultimate fate he and Alice get at the end of the story.
* ParentalSubstitute: With Alice to Raksha the bear-dog.
* ShipTease: Gets this with Alice in Phase Three, big time.
* {{Tritagonist}}: He and Yolanda serve as this in Phase Three - he has a WillTheyOrWontThey ShipTease arc with Alice, bonds with Raksha and Baloo, and [[spoiler: is amongst the first alongside Alice to be told by Cynthia about Percival's infiltration of the park]].
* WillTheyOrWontThey: With Alice. And at the end of the story, [[MaybeEverAfter it's never made clear whether they became an]] OfficialCouple [[MaybeEverAfter or not]].

!! Marianne "Mia" Nelson
One of the younger keepers at Prehistoric Earth, and a friend of Yolanda's. Seems to be most comfortable with working with aquatic animals, and is almost always dressed in a wet suit. She also helps Yolanda teach Leon how to handle the sea scorpions and overcome his fear of them.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Everyone (including herself) calls her Mia.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Not quite, but close. She accidentally gives Jack and Leon a book on animal husbandry for them to use in handling the Dunkleosteus written in French instead of English.
* WalkingSwimSuitScene: Is almost always dressed exclusively in her wet suit in every scene we see her.

!!Cynthia Night
Newly hired to the Prehistoric Park staff after "Alien Empire". She is a very . . . intriguing . . . individual to say the least.
* AlphaBitch: A non high-school example; she has this attitude towards Jack and Leon, amongst others.
* AmicableExes: With Drew when she decides to leave the park in the end to go after the escaped von Grimm and do her own thing afterwards and they both mutually decide to break up to avoid the drama of a long distance relationship.
* BelligerentSexualTension: According to Nathanoraptor, with Drew.
* BirdsOfAFeather: With Drew, to an extent. They can both be rather hot headed and have a tendency to [[LeeroyJenkins go rushing head-on into situations without thinking]].
* ButNowIMustGo: After the death of Frank, she makes it clear that, with von Grimm still at large, she plans to leave Prehistoric Earth on her own to take him out.
* FlatCharacter: Hardly received any further development during the first few chapters following her introduction. To be fair though, as Drew Luczynski has made quite clear, she would have received more development during this time if it hadn't been for [[CreativeDifferences Nathanoraptor overrulling his efforts]]. [[CharacterShilling Or so he claimed anyway.]] [[spoiler: However, as of much later chapters, she managed to shake off her initial flatness]].
* GoodAllAlong: Initially seemed to be very heavily implied to be a mole working for von Grimm and responsible for multiple instances of sabotage unfolding in the park, plus potentially trying to set up Jack as the FallGuy. However, as it later turned out, she was actually a spy working for ''Theodore'' to expose the ''actual'' villainous mole responsible for the sabotage and serving as a spy for von Grimm, and her seeming efforts at setting Jack up as the fall guy were actually her expressing suspicions of him being von Grimm's mole.
* GoodIsNotNice: Very much so. Gets played up considerably in ''Beyond the Sea''.
* KarmaHoudini: Arguably ''never'' faces any punishment or similar karmic retribution for any of her {{Jerkass}} behavior or willingness to keep the truth about her involvement at the park a secret even at a point where doing as much is at best unnecessary and at worst obstructive to everyone's efforts at putting a stop to the villains' plans. And the closest thing she gets to karma for as much [[spoiler: (leaving the park with no guarantee of ever coming back)]] still doesn't fully count by virtue of she herself choosing to do as much on her own accord.
* LeeroyJenkins: Shows signs of this every now and then.
* LovesSecrecy: While not explicitly confirmed, she quite notably shows extreme reluctance in telling ''anyone'' (including her own ''boyfriend''!) about the secrets she, Alice, and Will have been hiding after they get confirmation as to the identity of TheMole (even showing annoyance both when the latter two make it clear that the time for the secrecy to end has come, and immediately before she herself finally starts to come clean to everyone else), despite the fact that the circumstances at that particular point would leave continued secrecy over the matter unnecessary at best and possibly obstructive for the crew's efforts at stopping the smuggling operation at worst.
* TheMole: While not yet explicitly confirmed, several events and actions involving her in Phase 2 seem to hint heavily at the possibility of her being responsible for the sabotage under orders from Von Grimm. [[spoiler: Subverted around the beginning of Phase 3 in that she does turn out to be a mole...[[GoodAllAlong working for Novum to catch the then unrevealed villainous mole that IS present in the park alongside her.]]]]
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: At least not around Drew anyway.
* OfficialCouple: With Drew. [[spoiler: And notably, of the three confirmed couples in this story, she and Drew are the only ones who aren't still together at the end of the story.]]
* PetTheDog: Respects and acknowledges Leon's success with the allosaurs despite initially writing him off as dead and needing to be very strongly urged by Jack to give him a chance to prove himself on Leon's first day of working to train the allosaurs. She also very pointedly makes sure that Drew actually puts in the effort to thank Jack for coming up with the idea that both made carnivore feeding easier ''and'' prevented her from getting fired.
* PutOnABus: Rather suspiciously so in "Storm in the Desert." [[spoiler: Also does this again on a possibly more permanent basis at the very end of the story when she decides to leave the park to first go after the escaped von Grimm before then doing her own thing afterward with no guarantee she'll ever return to the park.]]
* SitcomArchNemesis: While she no longer suspects Jack of being the mole she's been tasked to seek out and expose, she nonetheless doesn't quite seem to get along with him very much. She also doesn't seem to have an entirely high opinion of Leon either.
* TookALevelInJerkass: Starts to show off a little more of her jerkass side during ''Beyond the Sea'' for the sake of preventing Alice and Will from risking her cover getting blown or getting themselves, or anyone else they know, [[HeKnowsTooMuch possibly fed to the andrewsarchus]] by von Grimm's mole.
* {{Tetragonist}}: Serves as this in Phase Three, along with Sharptooth. [[WhatCouldHaveBeen Drew (the author) wanted her to be the]] {{Deuteragonist}}, but Nathanoraptor said no.

!!Duncan
A 'minor' guard amongst the security forces at Prehistoric Earth[[spoiler: and the man hired by Percival von Grimm to serve as a mole for him and sabotage the park.]]

* EatenAlive: [[spoiler:By Sharptooth.]]
* EvilHasABadSenseOfHumor: Maliciously jokes with Ursula in "The Devils Here".
* MouthOfSauron: [[spoiler:Generally relays orders from Percival to Frank and the dino-smuggling operation]]
* [[spoiler: TheMole]]
* ProperlyParanoid: While a bit off target, he wasn't entirely wrong to worry about [[spoiler: Drew finding out about his being the mole as well as the sinister operation going on thanks to von Grimm. After all, unknown to him, he's already got three members of the park staff already aware that there is in fact a mole working behind the scenes to sabotage the park. When he realizes that he's close to being rumbled by virtue of Cynthia, Alice, and Will appearing to all too clearly be on to him, he tells von Grimm to give Frank the all clear to send in his proposed black-ops team.]]
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Only appeared once prior to very late in Phase 3; and wasn't even named until his first appearance in phase 3. [[spoiler: Turns out, he's von Grimm's mole.]]

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Novum]]

!!Theodore Richardson
Owner of the Novum company, and responsible for the idea and creation of Prehistoric Earth. Responsible for hiring all the staff characters and for the invention of the time portal.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He displays a shocking display of rage and fury upon hearing the news of [[EtTuBrute von Grimm's betrayal]].
* BigGood
* CoolOldGuy
* EccentricMentor: Has moments of this.
* HonestCorporateExecutive: The eighth richest man in the world and wholly benevolent.
* InsistentTerminology: Would much rather be on a first name basis with his employees (or at least with Drew) then to have them call him Mr. Richardson.
* MissionControl: Responsible for choosing and deciding upon missions for the rescue team.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: See BewareTheNiceOnes above.

!!Percival von Grimm
One of the senior board members of Novum. Visited the park alongside Cynthia during the park inspection. [[spoiler: May or may not have sinister plans in mind for the park.]]
* [[spoiler: BigBad: Turns out to be the story's main villain.]]
* [[spoiler: CorruptCorporateExecutive: Second only to Theodore, but with none of his benevolence]].
* [[spoiler: GreaterScopeVillain: He's the orchestrator of the breakout in "A Nightmare Labyrinthine", as well as a number of other events in the story.]]
* [[spoiler: HiddenAgendaVillain: His true reasons for infiltrating the park were unknown, before being revealed in "Ten To Midnight" - he's secretly running a dinosaur-trafficking operation]].
* InsistentTerminology: It's 'von Grimm' thank you very much.
* PragmaticVillainy: Works as hard as he can to avoid drawing unnecessary attention to himself and his workers in the plan, he ultimately allows Frank to call in a black-ops unit once it starts to become clear that people are starting to catch on to what's happening. And when it becomes clear that even ''that'' has failed, he comes to the island himself to make absolutely sure that the evacuation of the smuggling operation goes smoothly.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Only appeared twice prior to Phase 3. [[spoiler:He's the story's BigBad, who is secretly running a dinosaur-trafficking operation and hired Duncan to spy on the park]].
* The Unfought: While he does manage to give a brief villain speech to the park staff who've assembled to take down his smuggling operation over the course of the finale, he very swiftly departs from the area afterward without having any direct proper 'battle' against any of the heroes and leaves all the heavy lifting antagonist work to his second in command Frank.
* WalkingSpoiler: Notice all the blanked out entries

!!Frank
An apparent hunter of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures in charge of [[spoiler: a smuggling operation going on in Prehistoric Earth without the staff or Theodore's being aware of it. Naturally, he's working under von Grimm's payroll and is also being assisted by Duncan.]]
* BaldOfEvil: He is bald, but also has a beard.
* BigBadWannabe: [[spoiler:Played with. On the one hand, he thinks very highly of himself - more so than his actual ability, which naturally ends up badly for him when he attempts to betray von Grimm and ends up tased and left at the mercy of the Prehistoric Earth team. On the other hand, he ironically ends up proving much more of an immediate threat to the rescue team and the rest of the park staff due to the more genuine BigBad of the story Percival von Grimm being largely too uninvolved with everything going on to prove quite as direct of an obstacle in the Prehistoric Earth staffs' efforts at dismantling the smuggling operation.]]
* [[spoiler: TheDragon: He's von Grimm's main enforcer on the field for the smuggling operation.]]
* [[spoiler: DragonInChief: A strange case. Whilst von Grimm is still, undoubtedly, the one in charge, with him positioned at Novum Headquarters for much of the arc, Frank is the most prominent antagonist in the story - even when von Grimm himself arrives at the smuggler base, he only sticks around long enough to provide brief assistance in readying the animal smuggling operation for evacuation and give a speech to the heroes before leaving, whilst Frank is captured and gets a prominent death. With his death and the smuggling operation's dismantling, von Grimm's significance to the plot is downplayed.]]
* EvilBrit: Has a Cockney accent and is a fairly unpleasant thug.
* [[spoiler: EvilPoacher: Technically, he's an animal smuggler (since the animals he's smuggling aren't legally protected). However, he otherwise fits the stereotype in that he is capturing and killing rare and exotic animals and attacking people who get in his way. He even has a necklace made out of dinosaur teeth]]
* ForWantOfANail: [[spoiler: The only reason he hasn't already expanded his operation and gotten the plan rolling more swiftly by now is the fact that he's currently relying upon an inferior jury rigged version of the time portal and is waiting for Duncan to help him get ahold of the more higher quality portal that the park staff use for their missions.]]
* HateSink: He's an unpleasant, greedy thug. No tears are shed when he dies.
* [[spoiler: TheHeavy: Frank is the most active antagonist from running the Novum board's smuggling operation, sending a black-ops squad to the park to steal the portal and facing Drew's team in the finale.]]
* {{Jerkass}}: Acts very unpleasant and rude in [[EstablishingCharacterMoment just his first scenes of physical appearance alone]]. Topped off quite cruelly by the fact that he tases a baby triceratops!
* KarmicDeath: His death, [[spoiler:trampled by a herd of herbivorous dinosaurs]] is well-deserved.
* KickTheDog: Or more accurately, tase the baby triceratops.
* NeverMyFault: Is quick to blame von Grimm and Duncan taking too long to [[spoiler: provide him with PE's portal he needs as a replacement for his [[ForWantOfANail obviously more inferior prototype level portal he currently has]] for the current long amount of time their plan is taking to unfold. He also similarly blames von Grimm and just about everyone else but himself for all his mistakes that lead to the ultimate failure of the entire operation.]]
* SquashedFlat: Gets crushed to death under the wreckage of a porta-potty after a stampeding herd of herbivorous dinosaurs he was trying to escape from ends up trampling it while he's hiding inside it.
* TheStarScream: Played with. [[spoiler: He seems very grudgingly respectful at best towards von Grimm (as indicated by him constantly referring to him as Mr. Grimm instead of by the preferred Mr. VON Grimm), and not at all happy about his idea of sending in a black-ops team getting shot down. But ultimately, after von Grimm is given news from Duncan about very likely having been found out, Frank is given the all clear to bring in the black-ops team without needing to defy orders. But then, after the black-ops team, plus Duncan, get killed in their failed attempts at getting a hold of the prime portal, he does indeed turn out to be a Starscream...via von Grimm himself being aware of the fact and having him get tased and left at the mercy of the Prehistoric Earth staff to prevent him from betraying him.]]
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: [[spoiler:He and Duncan don't get on very well. And he also seems to be rather grudgingly respectful at best towards von Grimm for that matter.]]
* WouldHurtAChild: Again, he ''tased a baby triceratops'' simply to blow off steam!

!!Ursula Crabb
The apparent leader of the Novum black-ops unit that Frank calls in.
----
* DragonLady: Can somewhat give off this vibe by virtue of her being Asian, and an antagonist.
* EatenAlive: Courtesy of [[spoiler:Sharptooth]].
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Despite frequently insulting Zander and Ed, she's still a little saddened by their deaths.
* EvilHasABadSenseOfHumor: Whilst not as prominent as Zander, she maliciously quips "Shocking" after [[spoiler:Ed tases Adrian into unconsciousness]], as well as sharing some snarky banter with [[spoiler:Duncan]].
* KnightOfCerebus: Comical bantering aside, she and her cohorts shift the story into a far darker tone.
* {{Shoutout}}: Her first name, along with those of her cohorts, is derived from the QuirkyMinibossSquad from ''Anime/DinosaurKing''. As well as this, she shares a surname with Lee and Cyrus Crabb from ''{{Literature/Dinotopia}}''.
* SurroundedByIdiots: Judging by the somewhat low intelligence demonstrated by her partners, Zander and Ed, she's clearly the brains of this trio.
* WickedCultured: Quotes the infamous "Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war" line from ''Theatre/JuliusCaesar'' when [[spoiler:releasing the young female T-rex]] and also quotes ''{{Theatre/Macbeth}}''.

!!Zander Hacker
One of Ursula's partners in the Novum black-ops unit.
----
* AloneWithThePsycho: Will, Alice, and Raksha find themselves suffering from this when he manages to successfully get the drop on them.
* BoomHeadshot: Plans to subject Will and Alice to this, before [[ThisBearWasFramed throwing their bodies to the cave hyenas]] to MakeItLookLikeAnAccident. Unfortunately for him, [[BearsAreBadNews Baloo]] [[PapaWolf was in the area]].
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Gets his head ''crushed'' between Baloo's jaws.
* EvilHasABadSenseOfHumor: When threatening Will and Alice, he demonstrates a rather malicious sense of humour.
* FatalFlaw: Despite being described as the assassin of the group by [[WordOfGod Nathanoraptor himself]], he ultimately fails due to his own overconfidence when Will, Alice and Raksha are at his mercy, making malicious little quips rather than immediately killing them when he has the chance. Naturally, this stalling gives Baloo time to notice him threatening Will, at which point he gets swiftly killed.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Talks in a conversational tone with Will and Alice, before preparing to kill them.
* KnightOfCerebus: Comical bantering aside, he and his cohorts mark the story's shift into a far darker tone.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: Initially seems rather dense and comically banters with Ed and Ursula; however, he manages to get the drop on Alice and Will and is mere seconds away from [[BoomHeadshot killing Will]] (and more than willing and ready to do the same to Alice afterward) when [[BigDamnHeroes Baloo shows up and kills him]].
* PsychoForHire: Downplayed. Whilst he generally comically banters with Ursula and Ed (and the three seem to share a slightly vitriolic, but genuine, camaraderie), his behavior and mannerisms when he has Alice, Will, and Raksha at his mercy, plus his inner monologue, heavily indicate that he's the resident sadist of the Novum black-ops unit.
* {{Shoutout}}: His first name, along with those of his cohorts, is derived from the QuirkyMinibossSquad from ''Anime/DinosaurKing''. As well as this, he shares a surname with the human antagonist from ''{{Film/Dinosaurus}}''.
* SoftSpokenSadist: While he has Alice, Will, and Raksha at his mercy, he goes so far as to threaten them, whilst making malicious little quips in a completely calm tone of voice, all while taking his sweet time just to watch them squirm.
* TokenEvilTeammate: Downplayed in that his teammates are also evil; but over the course of the entire black-ops team's screentime in this story, he seems by far the most evil compared to Ed and Ursula. Zander's inner monologue mentions that he explicitly enjoys tracking people down, and he gets Will and Alice to stand down by threatening Raksha's life and still proves quite eager to murder Alice, Will and Raksha anyway afterwards. Furthermore, while Ed appears to have been planning to get Nikolai tased, fed to Thanatos, and thus out of the way very swiftly, Zander seems unable to resist the chance to toy with Alice and Will before killing them. [[FatalFlaw This ultimately gets him killed]] by allowing enough time to pass for [[BearsAreBadNews Baloo]] [[PapaWolf to see him threatening Will and Alice]], at which point the bear [[BigDamnHeroes bursts onto the scene]] in time to save them.

!!Ed Baylor
Ursula and Zander's partner in the Novum black-ops unit.
----
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Nikolai ''FEEDS HIM TO THANATOS'' in self defense over the course of Ed's failed attempt at taking him out after the alarm has been sounded.
* CurbStompBattle: On the receiving end of this against Nikolai.
* CurbStompCushion: That being said though, he does still manage to put up a relatively decent fight before Nikolai defeats him.
* EatenAlive: By Thanatos.
* JustDesserts: Courtesy of Thanatos.
* KarmicDeath: Intended to tase Nikolai and throw him to the Liopleurodon - this is the fate that ends up befalling him.
* KnightOfCerebus: Comical bantering aside, he and his cohorts mark the story's shift into a far darker tone.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: Initially seems rather dense and comically banters with Zander and Ursula; however, he puts up a good fight against Nikolai, even though he ultimately loses.
* {{Shoutout}}: His first name, along with those of his cohorts, is derived from the QuirkyMinibossSquad from ''Anime/DinosaurKing''. As well as this, he shares a surname with HateSink Harvey Baylor from ''Film/PlanetOfTheDinosaurs''.

[[folder:Animals]]
!!Squishy
A male ''Anomalocaris''.
----
* BreakTheBadass: His armor is split during a confrontation with another member of his kind, and it takes him a while to recover mentally and physically from the stress.
* DemotedToExtra: Never made any further appearances following the resolution of his loneliness problem.
* FluffyTheTerrible: He's one of the first apex predators on Earth, but seriously, he's named ''Squishy''. This was deliberate (according to Nathanoraptor) to show his BadassDecay after having his armour split.

!!Spiny
A juvenile male ''Dimetrodon''.
----
* AllAnimalsAreDogs: For a Dimetrodon, he acts rather catlike. He hisses when angry, is fond of climbing and briefly stalks Lubbock like a cat stalking a mouse.
** [[WhatCouldHaveBeen Originally, he was supposed to act like a dog,]] but Nathanoraptor vetoed that idea. [[CreatorBacklash Co-writer Drew Luczynski was not pleased,]] as he'd wanted to use Spiny to promote a different fic, ''Dinosaur King Retold!''.
* BackForTheFinale: After completely fading away into the background after the end of Phase 1 (likely as a result of his original purpose that Drew Luczynski had in mind for him being obviated by his being changed to behave more like a cat or tegu lizard by Nathanoraptor), he is back for a brief cameo during the TeamShot at the very end of the epilogue.
* DemotedToExtra: Never appeared after his debut mission [[spoiler: outside of a brief cameo [[BackForTheFinale in the epilogue]]]].
* WriteWhoYouKnow: Nathanoraptor based some of Spiny's behaviours on a cat his cousin owns.

!!Thanatos
A very, very, ''very old'' male ''Liopleurodon''.
----
* AnimalsNotToScale: While downsized from what he was in his home series, he's still ''sixty feet long'', making about three times larger than the max size for ''Liopleurodon''. WordOfGod is that they wanted him to be more realistically sized by still large compared to his portrayal.
* BackForTheFinale: Appears in "The Devils Here", after last appearing aaaalll the way back in "Age of Giants".
* NamedByTheAdaptation: He's the old bull ''Liopleurodon'' from ''Series/WalkingWithDinosaurs''.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: He's named after the Greek god of ''death''. Enough said.
* SeaMonster: {{Downplayed}} - he's only an animal, but is far more sinister than many of the park's other rescues.
* SparedByTheAdaptation: The crew drags him off the beach and into the waters of the present before he suffocates under his own weight. At the park in "Age of Giants", he's starting to recover.
* ToServeMan: Gets to chomp on Ed the mercenary in "The Devils Here"

!!Keehar
A male ''Rhamphorynchus''
----
* ChekhovsGunman: He stows away in "Feathered Dragons" and becomes very important in the end, as he [[spoiler: helps the team find their way back to the lake in the volcanic eruption]]. He also ends up playing a key role in [[spoiler: helping Jack and his group successfully escape their situation of being trapped and at gunpoint by the smugglers]].
* CombatAndSupport: In his and Zira's fight with Sharptooth, Keehar acts as the support, clawing at weak points and distracting Sharptooth long enough for Zira to land hits on him.
* GuestStarPartyMember: In "Feathered Dragons", "The Wavering Gulfs" and "A Continent of Blight", he's brought along on the mission. [[spoiler: He takes this role yet again in "Isle of Noise".]]
* MadeOfIron: ''Really'' takes a beating during his and Zira's fight against Sharptooth, yet is still alive once the fight is over!
* {{Shoutout}}: Named after the cranky seagull feared by Woundwort in {{Literature/WatershipDown}}.

!!Cirrus
A large male ''Ornithocheirus''
----
* BadassInDistress: Is found seriously injured on a beach.
* BigDamnHeroes: Is present in the veterinary facility just in time to save Linda from a pack of velociraptors during the mass carnivore breakout during ''Nightmare Labyrinthine''.
* GiantFlyer: He has a forty-foot wingspan; he's larger than any other pterosaur in the park.
* SparedByTheAdaptation: Thanks to timely intervention from Jack, Alice and Adrian.

!!Red
The alpha female Utahraptor, who Jack forms a bond with.
----
* {{Expy}}: She's named after the titular character in ''Literature/RaptorRed'' and is based off of [[Film/JurassicWorld Blue]] in personality.
* MamaBear: Protects Jack from Vhagar the Allosaurus in the Phase Two finale.
* MisplacedWildlife: {{Justified}}. She belongs to a fictional European species of the genus ''Utahraptor''.
* RaptorAttack

!!Lightning
A male ''Argentinosaurus''.
----
* BadassInDistress: He's initially surrounded by hungry ''Giganotosaurus'', who far outnumber him. [[BigDamnHeroes Then Thunder shows up.]]
* MythologyGag: He's named after the protagonist of the second chapter of the ''Walking With Dinosaurs Wonderbook.''

!!Sharptooth
An elderly male ''Tyrannosaurus''.
----
* AnimalsNotToScale: He's almost ''sixty feet long''; quite a bit bigger than the largest recorded Tyrannosaurus.
* BigDamnHeroes: Manages, alongside Leon, to be present just in time to save Yolanda from becoming cat food.
* DarkIsEvil: While not exactly evil, he does play an antagonistic role in ''The Wavering Gulfs'', ''A Continent of Blight'', and ''Nightmare Labyrinthine'', and is much darker colored than the other t-rex featured in the story.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Segues into this in Phase Three, where he gets much more of a fleshed out personality and has a bonding arc with Yolanda.
* FishOutOfTemporalWater: A lot of his portrayal in "A Nightmare Labyrinthine". WordOfGod even compares him to Rip van Winkle.
* GeniusBruiser: Incredibly powerful... and incredibly intelligent.
* GrumpyOldMan: His internal thoughts in "The New Giants reveal himself as one.
* HandicappedBadass: Has a slight limp. That doesn't stop him from being badass.
* TheHeavy: Whilst [[spoiler:von Grimm and Duncan]] are the masterminds behind the events that lead to his rampage, he's the primary antagonistic force in "A Nightmare Labyrinthine".
* ItsPersonal: Averted. Despite being responsible for the death of Zira's siblings while she was an adolescent, they do not recognize each other when they later encounter each other while Zira herself is an adult.
* NonMaliciousMonster: He's fierce and menacing, yes, but he's simply a hungry predator.
* NotZilla: A lot of his portrayal in "A Nightmare Labyrinthine" is Godzilla-inspired.
* PapaWolf: Becomes rather protective of Yolanda, threatening the Dinofelis that attempts to attack her.
* PrehistoricMonster: Downplayed; he's just an animal, but he's portrayed as being a bit more sinister than the park's other animals.
* ShipperOnDeck: Seems to be this for Leon and Yolanda, in his own unique way.
* {{Shoutout}}: [[WesternAnimation/TheLandBeforeTime Take a wild guess.]]
* {{Tetragonist}}: Serves as this in Phase Three, along with Cynthia.
* ToServeMan: [[spoiler:Gets to chow down on Ursula and Duncan in "The Devils Here]].

!!Zira
An adult female ''Tyrannosaurus'' who was rescued alongside her mate after a battle against Sharptooth.
----
* ActionSurvivor: Manages to survive the KT Event alongside Drew!
* CombatAndSupport: In her team-up with Keehar against Sharptooth, Zira acts as the Combat by dealing hard blows on Sharptooth while Keehar distracts him from fighting properly.
* ItsPersonal: Averted. Whilst Sharptooth had killed Zira's siblings when she was an adolescent, it's made perfectly clear neither of them recognizes the other.
* ShipperOnDeck: Judging by some very suggestive grumbles she makes over the course of one notable moment of ShipTease, she may very well be this for Leon and Yolanda.
* {{Shoutout}}: Named after the BigBad from ''WesternAnimation/TheLionKingIISimbasPride''.

!!Raksha
A young female ''Cynodictis'' who was rescued as an orphan in Oligocene Mongolia and is currently being raised by Alice and Will.
----
* AllAnimalsAreDogs: She shows some very dog-like behaviours; being an amphicyonid, she's closer to dogs than most of the other animals at the park
* GuestStarPartyMember: Gets brought to the ice age alongside Alice, Will, and Jack during "Full Fathom Five".
* ShipperOnDeck: Appears to be this for Will and Alice.
* {{Shoutout}}: Named after the mother wolf from ''Literature/TheJungleBook''.

!!Baloo
A male cave bear who was found seriously injured in an Ice Age cave and has bonded with Alice and Will.
----
* BearyFriendly: Zig-zags between this trope and BearsAreBadNews; he's very friendly and not that aggressive as long as he isn't provoked.
* BearsAreBadNews: Zig-zags between this trope and BearyFriendly; whilst he normally isn't aggressive unless provoked, if you do provoke him... God help you.
* BigDamnHeroes: Arrives on the scene just in time to kill Zander right as he's seconds away from killing Will.
* HandicappedBadass: Is blind in one eye; that didn't stop him killing a cave lion...or Zander.
* PapaWolf: As Zander found out, ''do not threaten Will Darrow in his general vicinity, ever''.
* {{Shoutout}}: Named after the bear from ''Literature/TheJungleBook''.
