After he gets infected, he takes measures to protect his son from himself, telling him to hide in the cupboard and stay quiet when he begins to feel the infection overwhelming him so that when he did finally succumb and go AxCrazy, he wouldn’t hurt him. He then sends a distress signal to anyone in range begging them to rescue his boy, despite [[HeroicSacrifice likely knowing that doing so would ensure his own death.]]
