* CoolMask: Nearly all magic-users, and a few others besides them, wear masks of some sort. For magic-users it's a societal norm to wear a mask, while in Hole some magic-user victims wear masks to hide their deformities.
* {{Mukokuseki}}: There's a lot of Japanese naming, but most characters have a varied set of physical features that aren't strictly Asian.

-> '''Voiced by''': Creator/WataruTakagi (Japanese), Creator/AleksLe (English), Miguel Ángel Ruiz (Latin-American Spanish)
-> '''Age''': 25 (Self proclaimed)
->'''Specialty''': [[BladeEnthusiast Knife Fighting]], [[AntiMagic Smoke Immunity]].
-> [[spoiler: '''Magic''': [[BenevolentGenie GyozaGenie]]]]
The main protagonist. Kaiman is a simultaneously a food-loving dork and a huge, imposing knife fighter. Sometime before the story began, he fell victim to "Magic Practice", losing his memories and his human face in the process. Killing the one responsible breaks the spell, and luckily enough his fancy new lizard head, or rather the man inside it, seems to have an idea of who is responsible for his sorry state.

Kaiman is a MageKiller extraordinaire and spends most of his time brutally killing any who dare step foot into his neighborhood in Hole. His unique affliction leaves him immune to their smoke, and that's often a very nasty suprise for a MageSpecies so dependent on spells.

Behind the brutal, blood-spattered gas mask however, Kaiman's a pretty nice guy to the people who get to know him, and his affection for his friends and his love for Nikaido are very genuine.

Plus everyone he kills are [[AssholeVictim assholes]].
-----
* EleventhHourSuperpower: [[spoiler:To combat Hole-kun, Kaiman is transformed into a magic user of unfathomable power. This manifests as a SwissArmySuperpower in the form of a MagicStaff capable of granting his wishes, with a gyoza-flavored twist. Need to fly? He gets a pair of gyoza wings. Want to shoot a fireball? It's a grease fire, specifically. However, Hole-kun proves to be Kaiman's match regardless, and eventually {{de-power}}s him with a precisely aimed spike into his brain.]]
* AlternateIdentityAmnesia: See [[spoiler:SplitPersonality]].
* AmnesiacHero: Discovering ''who'' he was is the crux of his entire character.
* AntiHero: Pragmatic Anti-Hero. He's rather nice with those he considers his friends, and it's mostly because he lives in a CrapsackWorld that he brutally slaughters any sorcerers that come to Hole, who usually show up there to [[ForcedTransformation practice]] their magic on people. On the other hand, his killing spree of mages is ''indiscriminate'', he kills them immediately after biting their heads solely on the grounds that they're mages. (he would have killed a fortune teller had Nikaido not shown up and he turned out to be benevolent, and he later kills a taxi driver just so he wouldn't have to pay a tab with a currency he didn't have).
* AntiMagic: He's immune to Magic, which makes him very dangerous to the Magic Users, who often are too reliant on their powers. [[spoiler:Unfortunately, this only makes him immune from being transformed or affected directly by smoke. Magical items can still hurt him, as seen when he [[CurbStompBattle fights En]]]].
* BenevolentGenie: [[spoiler:Kaiman’s temporary magic by the end of the series, after being filled with magic power by all of the remaining devils Chidaruma had betrayed, he conjures a talking gyoza that looks silly at first, but it proves itself to be the most powerful magic ability in the series, being a literal genie that can materialize all sorts of offensive and defensive measures for Kaiman to use at his request, the gyoza is quite friendly to its master to boot, advising Kaiman on what he should use against Hole-kun]].
* BerserkButton: ''Don't'' mess with his gyoza. He loves his gyoza.
* BigEater: So much so that Nikaido is in debt because he does not pay his tab.
* BiggerOnTheInside: If he puts a person's head in his mouth, they sometimes experience the sensation that their entire body is inside an enormous, cavernous version of his mouth. To people outside, though, it just looks like Kaiman's biting the person's face.
* BoisterousBruiser: Does a miniature dance of joy at being allowed to fight Shin and Noi.
* BullyHunter: He doesn't hurt Magic Users who refuse to pick on humans, what would be the point? But the more you abuse the weak...
* TheBusCameBack: Kaiman [[spoiler:reappears at the end of Chapter 117; the head he lost at the beginning of the manga has been resurrected, along with an entirely new body.]]
* {{Catchphrase}}: "What did the guy inside my mouth say?"
%%* CharacterDevelopment: He starts off completely uncaring (though not [[JerkassHasAPoint without reason]]) about the lives of Magic-Users, but learning that not only his best friend, but ''he himself'' in his true identity are sorceress themselves makes him reconsider his biases.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: A gyoza loving dork, and a terrifying MageKiller.
* CurbStompCushion: Shin pretty much dominates him when they first meet, and he and Nikaido barely make it out alive. At the very least, Kaiman manages to sneak in a stab at Shin's chest, and the latter collapses from blood loss afterwards.
* DarkIsNotEvil: He has the head of a lizard, wears a black leather jacket and a gas mask.
* DecoyProtagonist: PlayedWith. He is firmly the protagonist for the first half of the series. But then [[spoiler:he gets decapitated and one of his alternate personalities takes over about halfway into the story. He does get revived in the final arc, but by that point, the story has become much more of an ensemble story than it was at the start.]]
* DeviousDaggers: His preferred weapon of choice. [[spoiler:This is foreshadowing to him being a Cross-Eyes member, as each member of the gang is taught how to be a good knife fighter in order to circumvent their own lack of magical potential.]]
* DisguisedInDrag: Becomes [[BrawnHilda Pieman]] when sneaking into [[spoiler:En's manor]].
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: His magic immunity is not actually magic itself.
* EveryoneHasStandards: He brutally and immediately kills mages without trial, but he'll spare them if they don't use their magic on others.
** In a downplayed instance, when he was doing his usual interrogation on Ebisu. He was genuinely disturbed when he pulled off her mask and found out she was a 13 year-old girl. Despite this, he chomps on her face anyway. It's unknown what he would have done afterwards because Fujita pulled her out at the last minute, but he didn't seem to have a problem with the fact that he accidentally ''ripped her face off''.
* FaceOfAThug: Specifically a lizard. Provided you're not a mage, he's not actually as intimidating as he looks.
* GoodCounterpart: To [[spoiler:Kai. While both are knife-wielding, Magic User slaying entities who originated as just another aspect of Ai Coleman, Kaiman isn't blinded by his hatred.]]
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: [[spoiler:Was imbued magical power from every former devil to become the strongest magic user to ever live. His power? Wish granting gyoza]]
* HealingFactor: He can regrow his entire head, [[spoiler:And as Aikawa shows, the rest of his body as well]].
* HeroicBuild: The guy looks like he came from the first few sagas of ''Manga/JojosBizarreAdventure''.
* HumanoidAbomination: Who or whatever Kaiman is supposed to be, he's something beyond any general explanation for either a human or a sorcerer. Aside from the lizard head (which actually sheds skin), he's utterly immune to the effects of magic, and anyone who's head he bites on ends up meeting a man [[BiggerOnTheInside who lives in his throat and appears to be looking for someone]]. Even decapitating him won't kill him for sure, as he'll just grow another one back the day after. [[spoiler: His and Vaux’s attempt to investigate and dissect the decapitated head fail, because ''somebody'' appears out of no where and takes it without them noticing.]]
* IJustWantToBeNormal: He hunts down Magic-Users in order to regain a human head and live a life as normal as [[CrapsackWorld Hole]] permits him. [[spoiler:At the end when Kaiwajiri promises to restore his head back to normal as soon as he regains his Devil status, Kaiman says that he's okay with how he is now and doesn't want to change back.]]
* {{Irony}}: Kaiman spends a large portion of the story hunting down Magic Users and showing them to the person inside his mouth, thinking that the person the man inside him is looking for must be the one who made him how he is now. [[spoiler:It turns out that the person the man inside his mouth is looking for is Kaiman himself, or rather Kai, the previous personality to inhabit Kaiman's body.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold:
** Being rather lazy and sometimes violent aside, he's a pretty nice guy. It helps that he usually targets [[BewareTheSuperman Magic Users]] and [[AssholeVictim jerks]].
** Notably he subverts the FantasticRacism present on both human and magic-user sides of the setting. He spares a Magic User living in Hole because he's both a pleasant guy who hasn't hurt anyone and someone who tries to help the downtrodden people in Hole by telling them their fortunes.
* LargeHam: Kaiman is goofy and hammy even among the rest of the cast, and his seiyu shows.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: His memories were wiped at the start of the series.
* LeanAndMean: In earlier chapters, he was still tall but he lacked much of the muscle he's known for now.
* LeeroyJenkins: He disregards Nikaido's caution in their first meeting with Shin & Noi, assuming they couldn't beat him because they were sorcerers (And he got his head taken off for it). Then when they entered the sorcerer's world, he happily tried to start a massacre in public, which Nikaido points out would defeat the purpose of them wearing ''disguises'' in the first place.
* ALighterShadeOfBlack: He's by no means IncorruptiblePurePureness (he at one point murders a taxi driving Magic User to ''get out of paying cab fare'') but he still protects Hole from the near universally malevolent Magic-Users, which puts him a few tiers above [[TheMafia En's family]] in terms of morality.
* LizardFolk: Only the head, though. The rest of him is pretty much human.
* MageKiller: Made this into his profession.
* MeaningfulName: Derived from "caiman", a reptile similar to the alligator but with a heavily armored belly that's native to tropical America.
* PayEvilUntoEvil: While Kaiman is violent during combat, he makes sure to direct his anger towards assholes and villainous mage users. And despite his rather gruesome fashion of offing his foes, Kaiman would make sure that they deserved it. It also doubles with him being a BullyHunter.
* PetTheDog: In an early chapter, he shows his soft side by unconditionally sparing the life of a fortune-telling Magic User who hasn't ever hurt anybody and only wants to live peacefully in Hole. After his brutal treatment of other mages, this is the first sign he's really a BullyHunter rather than an indiscriminate killer.
* PhraseCatcher: His victim's usual responses to his catchphrase right before he kills them. "You're not the one."
* PutOnABus: [[spoiler:Sort of. He's actually Aikawa -- or at least, an alternate personality of him. It's complicated. In practical terms, he dies about halfway through the story, but comes back to life during the final arc.]]
* ProgressivelyPrettier: He starts off looking more genuinely and unsettlingly reptilian, but {{Art Evolution}} has left him downright cute.
* RedBaron: ''The Magician Killer''.
* ReptilesAreAbhorrent: From En's family's perspective, especially Fujita. They regularly refer to him as "that lizard bastard."
* SealedInsideAPersonShapedCan:[[spoiler:The can for two ''entirely different'' evils: [[SuperpoweredEvilSide His previous identity Kai]], and his best friend Risu's [[EldritchAbomination Curse Magic]] ]].
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: Kaiman shoots down any assumptions made about Nikaido being his girlfriend. And for the most part, [[PlatonicLifePartners he means it]], not even getting flustered about it like Nikaido does. Just don't ask him if it's okay to date her yourself, though. [[ImpliedDeathThreat He wouldn't like it]].
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Rendered "Caiman" by the Viz Media translation.
* SpikesOfVillainy: [[GreyAndGreyMorality Villainy is pushing it, as a matter of perspective in this story]]. That said he has natural spikes on the back of his lizard head. His mask even has holes for them to fit through. [[RunningGag And he tends to get pillows stuck to his head whenever he wakes up on the bed.]]
* SplitPersonality: [[spoiler:He's shown to be Ai/Kai/Aikawa. He also has at least nine spare heads, though only there are only four personalities in total.]]
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Nikaido's gyozas. In a bonus chapter, a pie chart of his desires reveals that he wants Nikaido's gyozas ''more than he wants to regain his face.''
* TurnTheOtherCheek: [[spoiler:Kaiman ultimately saves the day not by his hatred, but through his sheer friendliness. After everything he’s seen, he forgives the Magic Users, helps kill the human revenge god Hole-kun, and breaks the ViciousCycle. The mages reciprocate, and it’s said that few people even know if the hole statues work (though they definitely do) because under En’s new policy magic practice is seemingly over.]]
* UnderestimatingBadassery: On the receiving end. He first expected Shin and Noi to be the usual walk-in-the-park mages because magic doesn't work on him. Then Shin takes his head off. He got better, but he knows not to make the same mistake again.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: He is afraid of ghosts. But okay with zombies. Apparently zombies are [[HorrorHunger just hungry]]. Which somehow makes them better.
* WouldHurtAChild: Though he was reluctant about it at first, he showed no more mercy for Ebisu than any other magic users despite her being only 13. And when ''her face gets ripped off'' due to Fujita pulling her through a door back to their world while she was still being held within Kaiman's mouth, he seems more disappointed that he didn't get to ask her who was inside his mouth, ''while her skin is still hanging from his mouth.''
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: To most mages after biting on their heads, a rare example of the ''protagonist'' doing this. He eases up on it later.

A mysterious figure tied to the pasts of much of the main cast.

Originally a teenager named Ai Coleman, Aikawa wanted nothing more than to become a magic user and escape his dismal life in Hole. He would end up getting his wish when one day, he jumped in to the Lake of Refuse in Hole to save a man, and became terminally ill. Kasukabe took pity on him and granted his dying wish to become a magic user, figuring the kid was doomed regardless. To everyone's surprise, Ai pulled through. He abandoned Hole and started a new life as a student with a new name, "Aikawa", and spent his days hanging out with Risu and getting into harmless trouble. But as time went on he discovered his powers had come at a price. He now shared his head with an entity, one that would periodically control his body in return for small gifts of money and a place to stay. While it was easy to ignore at first, that was before the bodies began to pile up. The entity eventually did the unthinkable and used his body to kill his best friend Risu, kicking off a series of events that transformed Aikawa into Kaiman.

When Kaiman is "killed" at the mid point of the story, Aikawa re-emerges alongside the entity. But this time he's not going down without a fight.
----
* AntiHero: Moreso than Kaiman. He's not really interested in playing hero the way Kaiman is, and often pushes away potential allies. Considering his history the behavior is justifiable.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Wanted nothing more then to become a Sorcerer and live in the Magic-User's realm, he unwittingly achieved this by becoming the host of a genocidal EldritchAbomination who killed his best friend.
* CoolMask: Has a pretty badass looking gas mask.
* DarkIsNotEvil: He looks almost just like Kai, sans markings. Unlike Kai, he's a LoveableRogue.
* DeathSeeker: He doesn't see his life worth living if it means Kai continues to live too, and with ''[[PersonOfMassDestruction very]]'' good reason. Unfortunately he CannotSelfTerminate due to his other personalities.
* EmoTeen: As Ai Coleman, he was never shown smiling. He mostly sulked in his room and pursued his research. He became much more outgoing after succeeding in his dream of becoming a Sorcerer and starting a new life in their world...[[BreakTheCutie for a while anyway]].
* HealingFactor: Kai/Hole's influence undoes any damage to his body.
* IJustWantToBeSpecial: As a human, he was told it was impossible for him to become a magic-user. [[GoneHorriblyRight Oh boy did he prove them wrong]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He stole food, was fairly lazy, but's he's one of the most loyal friends anyone could ask for, and is willing to pay [[HeroicSacrifice the ultimate price to take Kai with him]].
* LiteralSplitPersonality: Eventually he, Kaiman, and Kai become seperate entities as they reach their final forms. It's only temporarily as eventually he recombines with Kaiman, giving Kaiman all his memories back but leaving the Gyoza loving lizard as the dominant personality.
* LoveableRogue: He's a petty thief but undeniably charming. Helping this is his strong sense of justice.
* OlderThanTheyLook: He's actually 30 years old.
* OneTrackMindedHunger: Even moreso than Kaiman. Aikawa would regularly mooch or steal food from strangers, not just friends.
* ShipTease: With Nikaido, just like his lizard alter-ego. It should be noted that the romantic chemistry between her and Aikawa is actually more overt than with Kaiman's.
* SlasherSmile: His head gives one of these as it is destroyed by Curse.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: 206cm, built and fairly handsome. However, Nikaido, who was turning into a devil at the time, reveals that's not enough in regards to the high standards that devils have.

-> '''Age''': 20
-> '''Specialty''':[[BarefistedMonk Martial Arts]], [[SupremeChef Cooking]]
-> [[spoiler:'''Magic''': TimeTravel]]
The owner of the Hungry Bug restaurant and Kaiman's closest friend. She follows him into his quest of regaining his memories and human face. She also makes the best gyoza in the city. For a restaurant owner, she’s oddly dangerous; her near-professional grade combat training in particular hinting at a past Kaiman has yet to even remotely piece together.
-----
* ActionGirl: Strong enough to fight Noi.
* AmazonianBeauty: Though not on extreme levels like Noi, Nikaido herself is quite muscular and pretty tall among the female cast.
* AntiHero: As nice and easygoing as Nikaido is, she’s just as ruthless as Kaiman in a fight and has no problem fighting dirty.
* BadassNormal: Survives a few blows from the Devil-trained Noi, which would turn pretty much anyone else into a thick, red paste. Noi is very surprised by this. [[spoiler:Subverted early when she is revealed to be a magic user like most of the people she's fighting, especially once she begins her inadvertent devil training from Asu.]] See [[spoiler:FightsLikeANormal]].
* BareFistedMonk: While Kaiman uses knifes, Nikaido primarily fights barehanded. And her strikes are powerful enough to rupture Noi's organs ''and'' impress her.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Nice gal all around, yet it's wise to avoid getting on her bad side. Or hurting her friends.
* {{Brainwashed}}: Temporarily pulls a FaceHeelTurn when [[spoiler:En hunts her down and forcibly makes her his "partner". However, she can resist the contract (albeit with near fatal drawbacks) and eventually gets better after En dies.]]
* BroughtDownToNormal: [[spoiler:Once her magic runs out, in turn cancelling out her devil transformation, she's essentially back to the way she was.]]
* ChainmailBikini: Basically what her [[spoiler:Devil-outfit]] is, as it doesn't even cover her ass. Doubles as NakedApron [[spoiler:given that the Devil-outfit is [[ChefOfIron cooking-themed]] and made of supplies from her kitchen.]]
* ChefOfIron: She makes the best gyozas in Hole (according to Kaiman anyways), and can karate-chop off your head.
* ClothingDamage: On the receiving end of this several times, [[spoiler:one of which precedes her chest flattening during her devil transformation.]]
* CuteBruiser: She's pretty damn adorable, but she's also capable of throwing down just as much as any other member of the cast.
* CuteMonsterGirl: [[spoiler:Near the end of her devil training she had acquired some horns and tail that made her more cute]]
* DarkActionGirl: [[spoiler:After En brainwashes her into becoming his servant. She gets better.]]
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Her life was not that bad, seeing as she had friends and a family of sorts. The dark and troubling part about it is that she [[spoiler:erased it with her TimeTravel powers]].
* {{Deuteragonist}}: Kaiman may be the protagonist, but she receives as much focus as he does. [[spoiler:This is especially true for the second half of the manga, when Nikaido is learning to control her magic and Kaiman isn't even present for much of it.]]
* DissonantSerenity: Whenever she's in a fight, Nikaido's friendly personality fades entirely and she wears a cold, blank expression until she's done.
* EmptyEyes: Inverted -- she's usually drawn without pupils but they ''are'' drawn when she is under the influence of [[spoiler:devil transformation]].
* {{Expy}}: She is, without a doubt, Elaine from Anime/{{Genocyber}}.
* FightsLikeANormal: Initially, and after Kaiman [[spoiler:finds out she's a magic user, Nikaido promises to stop using magic.]] This doesn't last for long, though, as she eventually [[spoiler:does learn to use her magic.]]
* {{Foil}}: To Kaiman with regards to their origins. [[spoiler:Kaiman was once Ai, a human who wanted nothing more than to become a magic user and live in the magic users' world. Nikaido was a magic user who stopped using magic and moved to the Hole.]]
* GenderBender: Transforms into a man to infiltrate En/the Cross-eyes' HQ. [[spoiler:When her devil transformation is complete her outer appearance is very masculine (like all devils)]]
* GenkiGirl: When she [[spoiler:gets an influx of devil energy]] she becomes ''extremely'' energetic. Subverted [[spoiler:when she becomes a complete devil: her "outer self" is smiling behind her mask, her "inner self" has an apathetic expression.]]
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: [[ZigZaggedTrope Zig Zagged]]: while there's nobody truly good in the manga, she's one of the most kind and caring persons in the setting. Despite that, she, [[GreyAndGrayMorality like most characters in this series]], has killed [[WhatMeasureIsAMook many.]]
* HornedHumanoid: [[spoiler:In her devil transformation.]]
* HunterOfTheirOwnKind: [[spoiler:She's a magic user but helps Kaiman slaughter them. Since she’s vowed to never use her powers again, she has a unique perspective on magic practice. However, she only hates Magic Users who practice; she was willing to spare The Needle immediately.]]
* LimitedUseMagicalDevice: The cost of [[spoiler:her time magic is consolidating it into a single cube that can only be used five times.]].
* LittleMissBadass: As a child, she could defeat adults in hand-to-hand combat.
* MistakenForRomance: Considering she happily cooks for him without him paying, and the amount of time she spends with him it's easy for people to assume she and Kaiman are a thing.
* MadeOfIron: She can take a kick from [[SuperStrength Noi]] that sent her flying through the air (Or a punch across the street in the anime), and still stand long enough to escape while carrying Kaiman over her shoulders.
* MsFanservice: She has one of the biggest chests and has a lot of pretty skimpy {{Stripperiffic}} outfits. Or nothing at all.
* NavelDeepNeckline: Usually finds herself in combat with her clothes buttoned down.
* NiceGirl: Provided you aren't a threat, Nikaido is friendly and mostly tolerable to the people of Hole's weirdness. [[spoiler: part of the reason she started helping Kaiman hunt Magic Users in the first place was because felt she owed it to her new home to protect it]]
* OrgasmicallyDelicious: The gyozas she made one time [[spoiler:when she was in a devil-induced manic state]].
* OurDemonsAreDifferent: [[spoiler:She's becoming a devil ''accidentally'' (unfortunately those parts were skipped by the translators, but it seems to be Asu helping her to control her powers), mainly because unlike most magic-users she's used to not using her powers.]]
* PerpetualFrowner: [[spoiler:When her devil transformation is complete.]]
* PerpetualSmiler: When under the influence of [[spoiler:devil transformation.]]
* RedEyesTakeWarning: When under the influence of [[spoiler:devil transformation]].
* ShipTease: With Kaiman, quite a few times. She's even referred to as his girlfriend by other characters and her one wish when their quest is complete is to run a store with him.
* SkeletonsInTheCoatCloset: Skull-shaped knee pads are part of her [[spoiler:devil]] outfit.
* SpikyHair: Long flowing, blonde spiky hair.
* StrongAndSkilled: Nikaido is a very skilled martial artist and can make quick movements with power blows, strong enough to rupture organs.
* TimeMaster: [[spoiler: Her magic allows her to perform TimeTravel and alter history.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: After training under Kawajiri.
* WeakButSkilled: Downplayed. Nikaido is by no means weak, but she's not as insanely strong as Noi.

-> '''Voiced by''': Creator/MitsuhiroIchiki (Japanese), Creator/GriffinBurns (English), Eduardo Martínez (Latin-American Spanish)
-> '''Age''': [[OlderThanTheyLook 64]]
-> '''Specialty''': [[MadScientist Magic-User Research]]
An accomplished surgeon and Hole's leading (perhaps only) researcher into the bodies of Magic Users. In contrast to Dr. Vaux, he has a respect, or even admiration, for magic users and has spent much of his life trying to figure out how they work.
-----
* AffablyEvil: For a man willing to make a door out of stitched-together human flesh (well, [[AssholeVictim Magic-User]] flesh), he's remarkably polite, friendly, and non-bigoted.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: He will not turn down patients, even if the consequences of saving their lives are blatantly obvious. This bites him in the ass constantly, but up until [[spoiler: he realizes he created Hole Kun]] he had absolutely no regrets.
* DissonantSerenity: Nearly everything about him. He looks like easy going kid (if not just an easy going person in general). Who experiments on the dead bodies of sorcerers, made a magic door out of said bodies, trained a giant, flesh-eating cockroach into being his pet/assistant, turned [[spoiler: Matsumura]] into a Frankenstein zombie to fill in as a teammate for a baseball game, treats imprisonment and torture like fun...
* FluffyTamer: Decided a giant, man-eating cockroach would be a handy pet. The two have been inseparable ever since.
* ForScience: Claims to be more interested in research than in saving lives. Shin actually trusts him to treat magic users because of this, even when they are "enemies". Kasukabe would never intentionally botch a surgery, even of a foe, because he wouldn't learn anything.
* FriendlyEnemies: With Shin. Kasukabe is repeatedly, though politely, defiant while taken hostage, and Shin in turn is gentle with the guy. They seem to know exactly how much they can get away with without antagonizing or alienating the other, and try to work on their opposing goals [[spoiler:(save Nikaido, keep Nikaido captured)]] within these boundaries so they can stay friends.
* FeelsNoPain: "Always keep your cool is my motto". The guy doesn't even react when his ''arm'' gets lopped off.
* GoKartingWithBowser: Whenever he interacts with [[spoiler:Shin. The two of them are downright friendly and even end up helping each other.]]
* GoneHorriblyRight: [[spoiler:He operated on Ai to see if he could make him able to use magic. A few days later Ai was found dead, except he wasn't... He succeeded. [[BigBad Very well]]]].
* HappilyMarried: Sort of. He hasn't seen her for years prior to the story, though they are still very fond of each other.
* HauntedHouse: Lives in one due to magic users' smoke filling the place.
* InterspeciesRomance: [[spoiler:With Haru. First it was human/magic user and now it's a human/devil romance.]]
* IWasQuiteALooker: He's been attractive for most of his life, if scrawny as a teen and a bit on the husky side as a middle aged man, but when [[spoiler:Haru ages him up to his 20s so she can have sex with him, we discover he was once a buff, very attractive young man.]]
* MadScientist: He has a lab filled with the corpses of magic users and a door that he made out of magic user body parts. He also [[spoiler:operated on Shin to help him use magic. For no apparent reason. See ForScience above.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:His operation on Ai was a little too successful.]] It’s notable as being one of the only times he shows regret for one of his operations.
* NightmareFetishist: Mere seconds after stepping into [[spoiler:a hallway made out of the heads of dead magic users]], he says he hasn't felt so excited in decades.
* OlderThanTheyLook: He's actually in his sixties but looks like a teenager. His explanation is that he was a test subject for a magic user.
** Even as a sixty year old man he looked remarkably young, appearing much closer to forty.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: His real name is [[spoiler:Haze]], though it seems only Haru knows this.[[spoiler:In addition "Kasukabe" is actually his wife's real name.]]
* PerpetualSmiler: He approaches everything, from a kid who cut his own arms off, to himself being imprisoned and tortured, like a fun new experience.
* ShortTeensTallAdults: He barely comes up to Kaiman's ''hip'' in his teenager form.
* SilverFox: Take a look at that photo of him in his adult body. Pretty attractive for someone who's probably about 30-40 years old right? [[spoiler:That's him as a ''sixty year old man''. Continuous exposure to the magic user smoke in his house somehow caused his age to regress.]]
* SoProudOfYou: He's nothing but astonished with [[spoiler: Ai's success in transforming a human into a Magic-User, and (before it becomes clear that [[DemonicPossession Ai's not the one in the driver's seat anymore]]) he tries to convince Kai to help him complete his [[DemonofHumanOrigin newest project]] ]].
* TattooedCrook: It's a wonder he's able to work with those tattoos. Though compared to Magic Practice damage, tattoos are probably downright bland in Hole.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: [[spoiler:Put Shin back together, allowing him to finish wiping out the militia and dooming Hole to the sorry state we see it at the start of the story. He doesn't seem to regret it, despite the pain it has caused.]]
** [[spoiler:Also, while it is later revealed his surgery didn't quite make Ai a Magic User, it did make his body capable of handling Magic Smoke, Devil Tumors, and most importantly: Hole. Unlike the surgery he gave Shin, there was no way he could have predicted the surgery he gave Ai could have lead to so many deaths.]]

A dour doctor that works in a hospital in Hole who helps those who were used as test subjects by Magic Users. He's also Kaiman's boss, although Kaiman only marginally listens to the man.
----
* BadassNormal: He’s brave and competent enough to participate every year in Living Dead Day and he has yet to die or be infected. That said, he’s hopelessly outclassed by the other BadassNormal humans the story follows. The only reason he even gets into a dicey situation in the latest Living Dead Day is because Kaiman more or less ditches him.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: He’s surprisingly competent despite appearances, though he’s held back by the fact the vast majority of his patients are incurable, a fact that colored his outlook and level of effort. He manages to flawlessly autopsy [[spoiler:Kaimans severed head, despite the fact he had never worked with a head of that type before.]]
* TheEeyore: Magic Practice victims are generally incurable as long as the spellcaster is alive. All he can do is try to stabilize them and provide them with a modicum of quality-of-living if (and that is a big if) they survive the initial spell. Because of his depressing situation, the guy looks like he's either bored or moody most of the time.

* {{Catchphrase}}: Shocking!
* CreepyCockroach: At first, definitely. Once Kasukabe trains him, he becomes much nicer.
* {{Cyclops}}: It's not entirely clear whether the upper half of his head is one giant eye or whether it's actually a shiny, black EyelessFace.
* ExtremeOmnivore: Eats baked goods, sentient fungi, and human flesh with equal enthusiasm.
* FriendToBugs: An ordinary cockroach helps Jonson out of a bind, and the two dance briefly in celebration.

* DeathIsCheap: The real reason they are so damn dangerous. Even before they had [[spoiler:Kikurage and near guaranteed resurrection]] they still had the ability to petition Hell with wishes to have their members given back to them, which is implied to have a decent success rate since it was the very first thing Fujita tried.

A Magic User, gang leader, and effectively the ruler of the Magic Users World. His "Family" engages in various enterprises both violent and non violent, based out of a mansion so large it amounts to a small town. He has great influence in the Magic Users' world and connections to high ranking Devils. If the origin story [[UnreliableNarrator in his movie is to be believed]], his magic was strong enough as a child to [[SelfMadeOrphan turn both of his parents into mushrooms]]. Afterwards, he was abducted by weak Magic Users who held him prisoner and sold his smoke on the black market. Eventually, he was discarded and ended up in hell, where he apparently impressed the Devils enough to escape. He returned to the place where he had been imprisoned and freed the others, starting his "Family." Sometime before the story began, he sent his men to fight the Cross-Eyes, and many of them died. After that, En has decided that his destiny is to personally take down the boss of the Cross-Eyes.
-----

* AffluentAscetic: Downplayed, as he does live in an opulent mansion, but its very clear his early life of poverty left its mark on him and his habits and there are many cases where he takes frugality to the extreme despite being the richest man in either of the two worlds. As an example; he hates getting rid of or throwing anything out so much he would rather ''eat his enemies'' after he turns them into mushrooms than see any food go to waste.
* AntiVillain: Won’t hesitate to have his Cleaners kill his enemies, and often threatens to turn his subordinates in mushrooms if they double-cross him or catastrophically fail. On the other hand, he does care for his subordinates and despises injustice despite the whole Yakuza-like behavior. In addition, it is said under his rule the Magic User's World has become a far better, if still brutal, place to live compared to the Social-Dawrinian hellscape it was before he took over.
* TheArchmage: Considered by Chidaruma himself a contender for the strongest sorcerer in the world, En's power is only silly at first glance, later in the series he shows ludicrous applications to his mushrooms and boasts natural black powder reserves to absurd levels, with no other sorcerer matching said feat, [[spoiler:like protecting his crew by spewing a magic mushroom shield for ''26 hours straight'']]!
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: He's not in charge of much of the magic-using world for nothing.
* BadassInANiceSuit: He's always dressed like a Mafia don.
* BadassLongCoat: It's shown that he keeps a sweet pimp coat in the Bonus chapters. [[PrettyInMink Made of fur]], no less!
* BenevolentBoss: He's quite nice to his subordinates. Overlaps with AFatherToHisMen.
* BerserkButton: Black powder. Subpar magicians use it to increase their power, something that En detests. He immediately kills a woman that he tried to accost as his partner when he noticed some around her mouth.
* BreathWeapon: Like his cousin Noi, he prefers exuding smoke with his mouth instead of through his fingertips.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Has an obsession with mushrooms: it's the only thing he eats and he's filled his mansion with the stuff. Doesn't change the fact that he's the strongest magic-user in the series.
* CharacterDevelopment: He is a rather benevolent boss from the get go, but it is also clear early on that En is not the type to consider himself someone who should stick his neck out for subordinates, En is good to his family so they will serve him well and stay loyal; [[spoiler:it’s only after his death, and later resurrection, that he realizes how much his family has done for him, that’s when he starts fighting by their side and puts his new life on the line for them]].
* CharacterTics: His rough upbringing means he has a hatred of wasting anything. He will eat enemies he turns into mushrooms and will use the corpses of his own henchmen as fertilizer in his garden, rather than let either go to waste.
* CoolMask: His mask is Devil made and therefore empowers his already incredibly strong magic.
* CurbStompBattle: Delivers one to [[spoiler:Kaiman. He, in turn, later gets a fatal one from Kai.]]
* CutLexLuthorACheck: He runs a number of mushroom-related franchises alongside his more shady dealings.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: He arguably has it as bad as [[Manga/{{Berserk}} Guts]], in the sense that life itself has had it out for him since he was born. He possibly turned his parents into mushrooms when he was a baby, then a thief took him and sold him to a factory that imprisoned high-level magic-users and extracted their smoke to sell at a high price. After 9 years of this, [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness En was drained of his smoke and dumped into a river to die]]. Then a nearby devil found him... and thinking he was dead, he dumped him into hell. En survived there for 2 years living on mushrooms (which he turned the denizens into) and his hatred for everyone who tortured him until he was found by Chidaruma.
* EnlightenedSelfInterest: He’s AFatherToHisMen because if you treat people well, with kindness, and with respect, they respect you in turn, will work harder without being asked, and have no sensible reason to betray you. [[spoiler: Most of his character development involves BecomingTheMask and truly learning to love his family as, well, a family]]
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He's appalled by Risu's nonchalant reaction to his "friend" Miyamoto's brutal disfigurement.
** He hates the practice of keeping people as Smoke producing slaves, especially as he himself was kept as one early on.
* EvilRedhead: More or less evil (he's a mafia don, after all) but you can't deny that he's a redhead.
* AFatherToHisMen: His most redeeming feature. Overlaps with BenevolentBoss.
* Fiction500: The dude is loaded from all the businesses he runs. [[spoiler:The resale value from his various collections of memorabilia, art, and antiques alone is enough to keep the entire revitalized Cross-Eyes organization running more or less ''indefinitely'' after they take his mansion. And that’s not even accounting for his investments and liquid assets.]]
* {{Guyliner}}: Like most magic users his stylistic sense leans towards the flamboyant.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: He manages to kick some pretty serious ass despite the fact that all he can do is turn things into mushrooms. Part of this is that he's a GeniusBruiser like most magic users, and is used to using his magic in creative and devastating ways. For example, he delivers a brutal CurbStompBattle to [[spoiler:Kaiman]], getting around the latters [[spoiler:AntiMagic capabilities]] by mushroomizing the ''air particles'' his opponent has inhaled, tearing up [[spoiler:Kaiman]] from the inside out.
* HesBack: [[spoiler:After dying halfway through the manga, he's finally resurrected near the end and kicks Shin's zombified ass.]]
* HumiliationConga: As if his [[spoiler:gruesome death at Kai's hands wasn't bad enough, En spends his first day in Hell running into, and [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown getting beaten up by]], some of the many, many enemies he's made in life. Then he's forced into a "group tour" with Natsuki, Saji, Ushishimada and Ton who, immediately after recognising his face, proceed to beat him up ''some more''.]]
* ImAHumanitarian: He turns people into mushrooms, and then has them ''cooked'' for later because he doesn't let things to go to waste. He also serves the mushrooms he makes out of people in his restaurant, much to Shin and Noi's [[{{Squick}} disgust]].
* IncompatibleOrientation: Chota has it bad for En, but En has shown no interest in men and especially in Chota.
* ItsPersonal: Kill any of his men, and it becomes a personal issue with him. The Cross Eyes boss killed a lot of his men, so its become very, very personal issue to him.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He has a short temper and is pretty selfish (aside from the other terrible things he does) but deeply cares for his friends and family. Part of the reason why he goes up against Kaiman is because the latter murdered one of his subordinates in his quest to discover his original identity.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:Subverted. After Kai carves him to pieces, he's later seen in Hell in a bonus chapter. And once his family manages to retrieve his devil-tumor and get Kikurage to his reconstituted body, he promptly [[BackFromTheDead wakes up]] inside the morgue at Hole's hospital, naked and cold, but good as new.]]
* LargeHam: He makes a movie about himself, with an overly dramatic origin story and description of the Cross-Eyes' boss as his fated enemy. And in a visual example, his estate has statues of himself everywhere.
* ManOfWealthAndTaste: Associated with Demons on account of his position in the Magic Users World, and he definitely enjoys the finer things in life. He’s something of a subversion however, as while he loves luxury, he’s can also be surprisingly and pointedly frugal despite having absolutely no need to be.
* MoralMyopia: The first 9 years of his ''life'' were spent being enslaved and having his smoke being extracted to be sold at the highest bidder. This was part of the movie Chota had [[spoiler:Nikaido]] watching, [[spoiler:whom En captured and brainwashed into being his partner for her time magic. Granted, she was his enemy and her conditions aren't nearly as horrific as his was, but the twisted irony is there.]]
* MushroomMan: His smoke grows mushrooms of various sizes and can transform basically anything into said fungus. Even better, he can then use these mushrooms to fight, with devastating results.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: At the hands of [[spoiler:Shou, who erased his memory of Nikaido so he'd leave her alone.]]
* {{Narcissist}}: Subtle, but it becomes steadily noticeable the more we see of him. When Fujita asks him how Shin and Noi met, En starts the story at the noodle shop where they first met. Which he owned. Then he starts telling details about the ship’s top selling soba (which had fried mushrooms) before being put back on track. He also felt the need to talk about the song that the duo were listening to while eating in there. He was the singer.
-->'''En''': Incidentally, that song sold really well.
* NoBrows: He has no eyebrows, not even when he was a kid.
* NotSoStoic: He’s not as stone faced as you think he might be. For example, [[CutenessProximity whenever Kikurage is around.]]
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Well, technically, he doesn't destroy things so much as turn them into mushrooms. Entire towns, if you push him too far.
* PetTheDog: His doting treatment of Kikurage is the most literal example, but he shows his good side in other ways too.
** [[spoiler:Using black powder is normally a death sentence for any family (and many non-family) Magic-Users if he finds out, due to its association with his nemesis. He spares Ebisu due to her mental illnesses despite having concrete proof she’s an addict]]
* RefugeInAudacity: En hid his secret room behind a statue of Chidaruma because no one would dare touch a statue of that devil. This is because said devil is known for being a huge jerk, so even having a statue of him is a risk.
* RenaissanceMan: He's an actor, singer, successful business man, and a fan of fine art.
* SelfMadeOrphan: His autobiography movie says he accidentally turned his parents into mushrooms when he was a baby and ate them.
* SpikyHair: Believe it or not, he appeared a couple of times with his hair down, either in the barber, or just while sleeping. He [[BarbarianLongHair looks]] pretty [[{{Hunk}} good]].
* TheStoic: For the most part he maintains a serious, matter-of-fact persona. It helps that he has his mask on 90 percent of the time.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: He only eats mushrooms.
* VillainousWidowsPeak: He could give [[Manga/DragonBallZ Vegeta]] a run for his money.

* AndThenJohnWasAZombie: [[spoiler:Gets zombified by Kai, or whatever Kai has become, and then mushroomed to death by En... [[BackFromTheDead ...who immediately proceeds to resurrect him the following chapter, fully cured of his zombification/mushroomification]].]]
* AxCrazy: Only when he fights. He's otherwise a rather reasonable person.
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:En ordered Ebisu and Dokuga to collect all the mushrooms to form him back.]] No one knows what's going to happen since [[spoiler:Dokuga]] ran off with a couple of Mushrooms and then [[TheDreaded Kai]] appeared before him.
* BadassInANiceSuit:
** Most of the time he's dressed in a black suit. With sneakers.
** En's family issued for specially made suits/dresses for the occasion of the Blue Night. He seemingly didn't change at all, but his confusion when En pointed this out implied he ''did'' have clothes made for him and he somehow didn't notice.
* BarbarianLongHair: Even if he was a {{Bishonen}} as a teenager, and had his hair tied, he was still a force to reckoned with.
%%* BashBrothers: Or siblings, with Noi.
* TheBerserker: Without a doubt, the guy is a maniac who goes from relaxed to blood-crazed whenever there's a fight. Moreover, he and Noi came up with a combo-attack; where he just rushes toward their target while Noi heals whatever they throw at him.
* BestServedCold: His response to Vaux expressing concern for him, a young teenager at the time, going on a murder spree; this trope is a motto of his biological family.
* BloodKnight: He gets an expression of crazed excitement when En tells him that a fight with [[AntiMagic Kaiman]] could be a fight to the death.
* BodyHorror:
** The victims of his magic, who usually end up as a head and a few assorted organs [[AndIMustScream while still alive]].
** Somewhat fittingly, he had to do this to himself in order to get his powers in the first place, by cutting his arms open. Kasukabe and Vaux reattached them, but pointed out that they ceased function and were just rotting lumps of meat latched to him. By the time he met Noi, they were blue.
* BroughtDownToBadass: Stopped Shin from using his smoke? Well, don't worry, he'll just murder you the old-fashioned way.
* BullyHunter: Shin has stated he hates killing people who won't or can't fight back, and is disgusted by anyone who doesn't have the same qualms. He has even killed fellow magic users in particularly sadistic ways for trying to strong-arm weaker mages like Fujita.
* CoolMask: Has the shape of a heart. Though for some reason, he tends to wear it backwards.
* CoveredInScars: His hands and arms are covered in horizontal scars. This is due to him cutting his arms open as a child to find the veins that produce black smoke.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:He comes from Hole, where, due to being half-Magic User, his parents were killed and he was attacked by the Anti-Sorcerer militia. There he meets and fights Noi, and gets a job working for En.]]
* {{Determinator}}: If he's angry enough, nothing will stop him.
* DontMakeMeDestroyYou: Knowing that Kasukabe's association with Kaiman will keep the former on En's radar, Shin warns him to stop helping Kaiman, to no avail.
* FightsLikeANormal: Rarely uses his magic during combat, because using it against people who can’t feels like bullying to him.
* ForeheadOfDoom: Which each passing chapter his forehead became bigger. He's not going to be bald anytime soon, but it's noticeable.
* FreudianExcuse: He was hunted down by the [[MugglePower Hole militia]] for being [[FantasticRacism a half-magic user]].
* FriendlyEnemy: Once [[spoiler: everything is resolved and Holey defeated, he encounters both Kaiman and Nikaido when delivering some gold bars to the hospital for their helping the En Family; despite previously decapitating the former, he declares things are cool between them as he considers Kaiman a totally different person from Ai Coleman/Kai]].
%%* {{Foil}}: To Kaiman, as Shin is mainly a calm and cool individual when not fighting, but only tends to lose his mind whenever he's in the midst of battle. Whereas Kaiman is a very boisterous individual that is quite excitable.
* GoodCopBadCop: Downplayed, but he’s definitely the good cop, which says something about En’s methods. Shin will, with some exceptions, usually hear out the other side before he decides if they have to die or not. He does this even knowing most people will simply try to kill him, but he feels he at least has to give diplomacy a fair shot.
* HalfHumanHybrid: Half-human, half-magic user.
* HardHead: His head is very hard, evidently when he's stabbed in Volume 8.
* HeroicBuild: [[FemaleGaze YES]]
* HesBack [[spoiler:After spending most of the final fight being hopelessly outmatched by people like Curse and Hole, getting killed, possessed, shroomed, revived wrong, and all other sorts of abuse, he comes back for real in time for the final fight and puts up a pretty good show.]]
* {{Hunk}}: As an adult.
* HybridPower: [[spoiler:He's immune to the black rain, thought it still hurts it can't kill him.]]
* InformedAttribute: He is said to be merciful to those who decide to surrender, but we really only see him sparing people who have either saved his life or are friends with people who saved his life. This is likely since Dorohedoro is a WorldOfBadass, most people try to fight back when he comes knocking, with predictable results.
* IOweYouMyLife: Shin is grateful to Kasukabe for unlocking his magic and reattaching his arms. In exchange he honors Kasukabe's request to show the effects of his magic for research (by using it on the anti-magic militia as a calling card.) When Shin meets him the present day, he had Noi heal his friends who were afflicted by En's magic and give them a hiding space.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N69fgcv1JaA El Corazon]], a creepy accordion piece that highlights his strangely psychotic personality, and ends with a LastNoteNightmare befitting his violent tendencies.
* LetsGetDangerous: When he puts his mask forwards (he normally wears it backwards), start to pray. Better yet, [[DevilButNoGod don't.]]
* LimitedWardrobe: In the present day, he only wears black suits. [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] within canon: when asked what kind of outfit he wants for Blue Night, his only criterion is that it be black, and he receives a suit that just looks like the one he always wears. Everyone else has an entirely different outfit than usual for the event.
* LiquidCourage: At En's costume ball, he says he can't do the...''unusual'' dances unless he's drunk.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: When he was a teenager.
* MadeOfIron: It takes a lot to get Shin to even start visibly reeling. A transformed Noi ripped some of his guts out, yet he was still able to knock her out and carry her on his back later on without any sign of issue. [[spoiler: Getting ''blown in half'' can't even kill him immediately.]]
* MagicKnight: He only resorts to using magic against other magic users, for defense, or to carry targets he needs alive in a trash bag. The "knight" part is the main reason why he's so deadly, as he's monstrously strong enough to rip people apart with his hammer.
* NotSoStoic: He's fairly nonchalant about a lot of things around him in his default mood, but openly screams for blood when in a fight, and gets flustered when he ends up in romantic seeming situations with Noi.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: [[spoiler: By killing off the Hole Militia, he inadvertently allowed Hole-kun's summoning to be ushered into existence. Basically enacting the Sorcerers' version of the Apocalypse.]]
* OlderThanTheyLook: Can you believe he's 28?
* PunchClockVillain: It's just his job to 'clean' some people. His personality drastically changes when he's on the clock, becomming assertive, boisterous, and sadistic, compared to the mild mannered affable man he normally is.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Played with. He's always seen with a black and white suit, sometimes seen with blood stains, and he wears a red mask shaped like a heart. And at first, he’s portrayed as a bloodthirsty assassin and a primary antagonist, and during the time he’s introduced the Magic Users seem to be nothing but evil. But then we see his side of things, and discover the only category he doesn't fit into is "evil". [[BloodKnight Bloodthirsty?]] Yes. But strangely enough, not evil.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: His wiping out of the Anti-Magician militia as a teenager.
* SadisticChoice: Loves to do this to his victims once they are split up. Would you rather die from a pierced heart or a cracked skull?
* ScarsAreForever: Despite Noi having long healed his arms, he still has the stitchings from their reattachment.
* ScreamingWarrior: When he's gets ''really'' riled up in a fight.
* SecretIdentity: Not him but [[spoiler:''his dog'', who is actually a devil]].
* ShipTease: Not so much on Shin's side, but he's incredibly modest about Noi, becoming embarrassed whenever he sees her under-dressed, and usually responding with a red face when she does her own side of the ShipTease. [[spoiler:Almost done when he implants the charms that could bring someone back from fatal wounds, but he pulls back the last minute.]]
* SlasherSmile: More notable because of how mild mannered and affable he normally looks without his mask. It’s also much more a toothy sneer of hatred than an ear-to-ear grin.
* StartOfDarkness: When he was a teenager, his parents were murdered on different occasions, due [[FantasticRacism racism against magic users and those with ties with them]].
* SympatheticMurderer: He spent his teenaged years on a killing spree against Hole's Anti-Magician Millitia. Which is hard to blame him considering they killed his mother and father, the latter of whom was tortured just for association.
* {{Tsundere}}: Definitely. He's shown blushing with Noi (and becomes incredibly flustered by a nude clone of her), but it's pretty obvious he loves her. Also he doesn't like to being told nice things.
* UsedToBeASweetChild: Really was a normal teenager.
* UseYourHead: As a desperate attempt to end a [[EliteMook Cross Eye member]], which ends with that member's [[YourHeadAsplode head exploding]] in a mix of Gorn and BloodyHilarious.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Kaiman blames his quest for personal revenge turning Hole into what it is today. [[spoiler:As racist as they were, the militia were an entire army of people like Kaiman who were capable enough to defend humans from mages. Shin killed them to a man, ushering in a horrifying new era of totally unrestricted magic practice on innocent humans that would only end with the creation of the Hole-kun statues.]]
* WideEyesAndShrunkenIrises: When surprised and wearing his mask.
* YouKilledMyFather: The Anti-Magician Militia killed both of his parents, starting his one-man rampage against him.

En's cousin and a Cleaner, Noi works alongside her partner Shin to eliminate threats to the family. An albino BoisterousBruiser, Noi is almost always friendly and laughing even when fighting or killing. Her violent tendencies, PunchClockVillain attitude, love of food, and her unique magic make her the absolute perfect partner for Shin, and they are rarely seen apart. Despite her seemingly relaxed and easygoing demeanor, she can’t stand anyone being stronger than her, and very often (sometimes needlessly) worries about Shin. Her magic is a HealingFactor, allowing her to rebuild anyone from almost anything unless they're dead.
-----
* ActionGirl: Shin, that terrifying mass of muscle with a hammer, is actually the ''brains''. His partner is bigger, more aggressive, and just as terrifying. She’s usually the first one to start fighting when the two show up.
* AmazonianBeauty: Most people thought she was a guy thanks to her usual outfit of choice: a loose-fitting jumpsuit + gruesome mask which conceals her entire features. Later on, her gender is revealed and some characters are surprised to find out that she's actually quite busty, not to mention has a very feminine face despite her bulk. Even later she starts wearing more flattering clothes and there are even a couple of panels where she's completely topless.
* BadassAdorable: Coinciding with being an Amazonian BloodKnight, Noi is incredibly perky. She was even more adorable as a teenager, wearing a schoolgirl outfit, a bowtie around her hair, [[spoiler: and had a few devilish features (horns and a tail) near the end of her training]]. [[MusclesAreMeaningless And she wasn't any weaker than she is now.]]
* BarbarianLongHair: A rare female example.
* BashBrothers: With Shin.
* BloodKnight: The official guidebook places her priorities in a "mental pie chart." "I want to fight strong people!" takes up over three-fourths of it.
* BoisterousBruiser: To the point where she makes games with Shin on how many targets they kill each. And is exceptionally joyful and childlike when fighting Nikaido especially.
* ClashingCousins: Admits [[spoiler:after En's death that she never actually liked him, due to his treatment of her when she was young, and even half heartedly suggests to Shin that they go freelance after his death. Her opinion of En changes when he proves during the final fight he truly cares about his family, blood or otherwise.]]
* ClothingDamage: ''She'' comes back from grave injuries just fine, but not her clothes. This happens often.
* CombatMedic: Her smoke heals people instantly, so she can go from fighting to healing in literal seconds.
* CombatStilettos: Averted, she always wears sensible tennis shoes and the one time she wore heels she could barely walk.
* CompressedHair: When she wears her hair in her mask.
* CoolMask: A dark purple skull mask with indigo lenses. Like all high level magic users, it was made by a Devil.
* FightsLikeANormal: Unlike Shin, who simply rarely uses his magic out of a sense of honor, Noi's power is completely unsuited for direct combat and she just uses it as a healing buff.
* FriendlyEnemy: When she meets Nikaido, she is pretty impressed by Nikaido's strength, and declares that the two of them should be friends. When Nikaido is kidnapped by the family in a later storyline, Noi cheerfully greets the BoundAndGagged prisoner (whom she doesn't remember from before), and even heals her injuries while cleaning her. [[spoiler:Later, when Kasukabe, Shin's close friend, starts to stay with them with several other Hole residents, Noi gets along with them just as well as Shin does.]]
* {{Foil}}: Both she and Kaiman are musclebound {{Boisterous Bruiser}}s who start off with a bad habit of assuming their respective [[SuperpowerLottery Superpower Lotteries]] (HealingHands and AntiMagic) will carry them through any possible danger. But while Kaiman wears a [[DarkIsNotEvil black leather hoodie]], fights mostly with his knives, and has the FaceOfAThug, Noi dresses in a [[BrightIsNotGood bright blue tracksuit]], fights using her SuperStrength, and is [[AmazonianBeauty very pretty]] beneath her mask.
* GenkiGirl: Borders on [[DissonantSerenity being really creepy]] because she stays this way [[{{Gorn}} while killing people.]]
* GoodCopBadCop: The bad cop. She usually encourages Shin to show no mercy and simply kill whoever they’re dealing with, and is normally the first one to start punching. Though in this case it's less out of bloodlust, and more because she always expects a negotiation to turn into a bloodbath because of the opposing party. And she's usually right.
* HappyDance: She does a small victory dance for Shin when they think they've killed Kaiman.
* HiddenBuxom: Her work clothes make her look like a man already. Put her in anything less compact and her large bust is noticeable.
* HugeSchoolgirl: Back in the day.
* JerkassToOne: She's generally friendly, even to the people she's trying to kill at times. That said, she's consistently and openly bitter towards En, and wastes no time casually mocking him.
* KickTheDog: Downplayed. While she has some patience with Ebisu, she’s the only family member to be outright and blatantly dismissive of poor Fujita, basically telling him to shut up when he tried to help on an investigation, and outright rejecting his request for her to train him where Shin merely dodged the question. That said, she isn't outright cruel to him, and tries to cheer him up when he feels down from not having a partner.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_QjY7YYdP0 DAMN IT]], a harsh industrial metal track which mixes in OminousLatinChanting and sample Zulu chanting. It befits her terrifyingly imposing presence and [[ImplacableMan near unstoppable]] form of magic, as well as highlighting her love of violence.
* LethalHarmlessPowers: Her [[HealingHands healing smoke]] might not seem like it has an obvious ''offensive'' application, but it turns out when you can effortlessly and instantly heal yourself, it makes [[TrainingFromHell intense strength training]] ''really'' effective at bulking a person up much more quickly than would be natural.
* TheMedic: Cut up? Rotting? Have large chunks of flesh missing? Zombified? She can help. Getting up after a fatal headshot is a matter of seconds for her.
** Her ability is the reason why Ebisu's [[TheChewToy frequent mishaps]] are PlayedForLaughs.
** It's also why Noi is highly valued in En's Family. Even though she can survive almost anything, she's often pestered into staying behind in a safe location when the going gets tough, much to her chagrin.
* MusclesAreMeaningful: Noi is a walking tower of muscle who can cave men's skulls in with no effort.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: Even before she became an AmazonianBeauty and was just moderately muscular for a teenage girl, she was still immensely strong enough to casually move around in 150kg armor and lift a boulder as big as she was over her head to crush someone's head into paste with it.
* MsFanservice: She's busty plus she gets her share of nudity and sexy outfits.
* OneHeadTaller: With Shin... [[InvertedTrope she's the tall one]]. Although she played this straight to him when she was younger [[spoiler:and still in devil training.]]
* OurDemonsAreDifferent: [[spoiler: She almost became a devil in her early years, and even already grew horns and a tail. But she used her powers to save Shin in the last minute of her magic power abstinence. She absolutely does not regret it.]]
* PurpleIsPowerful: Whatever she's wearing, it usually has a shade of lavender or dark purple.
* PunchClockVillain: Though, unlike Shin, her personality doesn't change. This actually makes it ''even scarier''. You can always reliably determine whether you’re safe around Shin by his attitude towards you. If he’s acting casual and friendly, you’re safe. Noi will ask to be your friend while trying to punch your spine out, and ''she’ll actually mean it''.
* PunnyName: Noi = No.1
* PutTheLaughterInSlaughter: ''Really'' enjoys a good fight.
* SadisticChoice: [[spoiler: She was undergoing training to become a devil when she was younger, the final phrase of which involves not using your magic until the Blue Night. Unfortunately, three days before her training ended, Noi and Shin were attacked by a pair of magic-users and Shin was fatally wounded from having jumped in to save Noi from a killing blow. Noi chose to ruin her contract and heal Shin.]]
* SamusIsAGirl: It's usually assumed Noi is male, since most people only see her in her work clothes.
* ShipTease: With Shin, to an unbelievable amount. On at least two occasions, Noi has kissed Shin to fully heal him even though just hovering over his open mouth would've work just as well, she's teased him onscreen once by sleeping on his bed (which lead to a regular member thinking he was [[MomentKiller interrupting something]], and from how Noi worries about Shin, even in an omake becoming worried that he wanted to return to the Hole, it would feel like they're in a relationship or already married. Not helped by them sharing an apartment (though not rooms), and even Shin returning some feelings too.
* SheCleansUpNicely: In her introductory scenes, when the readers (and some characters) aren't [[SamusIsAGirl expecting]] the 6'10" boisterous mass of muscle they've just met to be a beautiful woman. After that, though, it's pretty clear that she's always been beautiful without her mask.
* StatuesqueStunner: She's 6'10" and one of the tallest women in the manga.
* SuperStrength: Enough to ''karate chop someone in half''.
* UnskilledButStrong: Shin criticizes her for relying too much on her healing magic and notes that she doesn't even try dodging attacks anymore. Though who could blame her when she is incredibly strong enough to demolish foes in her path. Though this comes back to bite her in the ass when going up against the [[MageKiller Cross-Eyes]] for the first time.
* WideEyesAndShrunkenIrises: In her mask, especially when surprised.

A weak Magic User who works for En. Despite being something of an errand boy, he ends up getting involved fairly regularly with the higher up members of the family, most likely because of his connection to Kaiman. Who, incidentally, killed his partner Matsumura.
-----
* AvengingTheVillain: He wants revenge for Matsumura's death.
* BigBrotherInstinct: He's very protective of Ebisu, even if he isn't interested in her as a partner.
* ButtMonkey: Nothing ever seems to go right for this poor sap...
** This even goes for the clone that Turkey makes of him. It's made with substandard ingredients, gets burned so its ass sticks to the bottom of the cauldron, and finally falls off of a roof and is destroyed.
* TheChewToy: This verges on being downright sadistic, like when he ends up playing baseball against [[spoiler:a [[CrossesTheLineTwice zombified, disfigured]] Matsumura.]]
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Discovers just how good his magic is when he uses it for throwing stuff during the BaseballEpisode. Never makes the connection he could weaponize this, and promptly forgets it.
* ExcessiveMourning: His mourning of Matsumura is portrayed as a character flaw, since he’s driven to near suicidal lengths to revive or avenge his former partner, instead of living on which is what Matsumura would have actually wanted. [[spoiler: It takes hearing those words from the man himself in a DeadPersonConversation to finally snap him out of it]]
* FearIsTheAppropriateResponse: Compared to the others of En's Family, Fujita shows what most of us would usually do in the situation. [[spoiler:It's exactly why he's picked to go undercover and invisible to find out information about the Cross-Eyes and their boss; everyone else, especially the best fighters Shin and Noi, would use the opportunity to attack and would likely die.]]
* FingerGun: His power is to shoot puffs of black smoke from his fingers with concussive force. He uses it very rarely because the “concussive force” is so weak as to be useless. [[spoiler:When powered up with black powder, it becomes powerful enough to blow people into LudicrousGibs — at the cost of blowing Fujita’s own arm off as well.]]
** HeartIsAnAwesomePower: During a baseball game in Hole, he can cast his smoke on the balls and throw them with frightening, lethal speed. He makes for a great pitcher. He unfortunately never realizes this would work in fights, too.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Nearly everyone in En’s family doesn’t care much for Fujita, sometimes they bluntly remind him that he’s not real family, and he knows it very well; Fujita sees himself as a coward weakling who can’t do anything by himself, so he worships En and the family’s big shots even if they don’t care much for him, because they still provide him with a level of safety. [[spoiler:However, later in the series when Fujita is one of the key figures that lead to En’s resurrection, the Family does come to care for him]].
* GagNose: His mask's defining quality.
* HeroicBSOD: Spends two days in bed unable to wake up after the shock of [[spoiler:En's death]].
** He spends most of the series in one from Matsumura dying. Multiple characters point out how shortsighted or outright suicidal many of his actions are, especially when it comes to trying to fight Kaiman who is more than a match for most of the family barring En and Shin.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: With Ebisu. He's taller than Nikaido, who's pretty tall for a woman.
* IJustWantToBeBadass: Having very weak magic and being bullied because of it, Fujita asks Shin and Noi to teach him to be stronger, which they turned him down immediately.
* {{Invisibility}}: [[spoiler:Shou makes him invisible for a mission to retrieve En's devil-shaped tumor.]]
* MuscleAngst: Or angst about his lack of muscle, as demonstrated when the first thing he does when under the influence of [[MushroomSamba En's lucid dream-inducing mushrooms]] is imagine himself enormous and muscular.
* NeverBareheaded: He's usually wearing an Ushanka with ear flaps.
* OhCrap: When [[spoiler:he's forced to work with one of the Cross-eyes to escape the wrecked shopping center and the Cross-Eye realizes Fujita's hiding something -- the tiny devil-shaped tumor that can help resurrect En.]]
* ShipTease: With Ebisu, but played for laughs.
* SympathyForTheDevil: What he briefly thinks he's having for the Cross-Eyes after [[spoiler:following them around while invisible]].
* UnderestimatingBadassery: When the occasion requires it, [[CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass he'll kick your ass]], or at the very least, [[{{Determinator}} put up a fight]].
* UnknownRival: He's hellbent on killing Kaiman to avenge Matsumura's death. Kaiman for his part barely acknowledges him, or Ebisu and Fujita never really confront him about it.
* VisibleInvisibility: Zigzagged. [[spoiler:For a while, the scenes played out with Fujita remaining completely unseen to both the characters and audience. However, in Fujita's own flashbacks and in scenes from his perspective, he's drawn as lines but not shaded.]]

[[folder:Matsumura]]
Fujita's former partner. Said to be a competent mage despite appearances, his death at Kaiman's hands triggers the overall plot of Dorohedoro.
-----
* BunnyEarsLawyer: He looks a little Gonk and was shown to be a glutton, but it is mentioned the only reason that Fujita is in the family at all is because En recruited Matsumura, and Fujita was brought in as well since he was Matsumura's partner already.
* CameBackWrong: PlayedForLaughs. He actually gets revived a couple times, but he's never revived ''properly'', instead coming back as a ''baseball playing Frankensteins monster''
* DeadPersonConversation: [[spoiler: In one of the most pivotal scenes of the manga, when the entire Family is depending on a borderline suicidal Fujita, Matsumura appears to his former partner. He implores the still living Fujita to keep living and “not come this way yet” (IE Hell) and then helps Fujita find Ens Devil Tumor. This last interaction gives Fujita the closure he needs to finally move on.]]
* PlotTriggeringDeath: Kaiman killing him is what finally gets En's attention, setting the plot in motion.
* TheyKilledKennyAgain: PlayedForLaughs. Is revived in an increasingly deteriorating form only to be killed again, with Fujita then carrying out what increasingly little of him remains.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: Killed at the very beginning of the series.

A young female Magic User who loses her memory and her sanity after getting her face ripped off by Kaiman. She gets "rescued" by Fujita, who wants her for her expertise in reptilian transformations, thinking she might have a connection to whoever cursed Kaiman. Said rescuing results in her [[CameBackWrong coming back from the dead semi-malformed]] and saddled with mental issues.

Ebisu has a vague past, with apparent connections to both high society and the criminal underworld. Recovering her past becomes a goal of the entire family, in the hopes of discovering the truth about Kaiman.
-----
* ACupAngst: Has plenty of it. She's constantly jealous of Noi and Nikaido's large breasts. Becomes a case of BoobBasedGag when she [[FakeBoobs wears padding]] or dreams up a huge pair when under the influence of [[MushroomSamba En's psychedelic mushrooms]].
* BigFancyHouse: Her childhood home.
* BreakTheCutie: In her first appearance, she gets her face literally ripped off by Kaiman. Even after her face gets healed, her mind is completely broken. However, it's mostly played for comedy. [[BlackComedy It's that kind of story.]]
* TheChewToy: Even more so than Fujita. At times to the point of [[DeconstructedTrope deconstruction]]. She gets eaten, disemboweled, zombified and otherwise nearly killed on a regular basis. In her character description she's even listed as "En family comic relief"! It does very little for her sanity.
* ChildrenAreInnocent: Some comments she makes do come across as this, or [[InnocentlyInsensitive not realizing what she says hurts]].
* CloudCuckooLander: At first it was because of the psychological trauma of having her face ripped off. Then it was because a hairpin that makes its wearer happy got trapped in her brain.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: When using black powder. She turns into a large lizard and chomps down on her opponents.
* DontFearTheReaper: Her design has a bit of grim reaper motif going for it, (skull mask, small scythes over her shoulders). Though she's hardly a threat under most circumstances and is one of the main sources of laughs in the series.
* EpicFail: When Fujita gets her to transform into a giant lizard, she reluctantly does and even adds a transformation sequencing pose for extra flair.. and ends up turning into a small, scaly worm thing with her head intact because she didn't have enough smoke.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: Hers are concentric circles.
* [[WeReallyDoCare I Really Do Care]]:
-->'''Fujita:''' Tomorrow [[TheHero he]]'ll be defenseless.
-->'''Ebisu''': You m'ght die in the process.''
-->'''Fujita:''' [[NotAfraidToDie I don't care]].
-->'''Ebisu''': [[YouAreNotAlone I do.]]
-->'''Fujita:''' Ebisu...
-->'''Ebisu:''' If you die, how am I gonna come back?
-->'''Fujita bangs his head against the wall'''
* FakeBoobs: She notices the ...gap between her and Noi (who's busty) when taking measurements for their Blue Night attire, so Ebisu has her dress modified so it seems she “grew“. Noi is the only one who calls attention to it and isn’t squicked out.
* FanDisservice: Considering she’s only 13, her attempts at trying to look sexy comes across both as comedy ''and'' this. And one of those times she had her intestines eaten out from a ''seriously'' suggestive position.
* GreenEyedMonster: She's not happy about Asuka getting Fujita's attention (unbeknownst of either of them, because of Asuka using magic to draw in customers.)
-->'''Ebisu:''' What's so good about that bitch?
* ItsAllAboutMe: Her mental pie chart outright states this trope. She mainly thinks about how she looks (the biggest one), her magic, herself in general, Kikurage and [[ButtMonkey Fujita]]. In that order.
* IronicName: She is named after one of the Seven Lucky Gods, but is anything but lucky.
* LargeHam: Nearly every waking moment of her onscreen/panel time has her doing something outrageous and bizarre.
* LikesOlderMen: She's 13 while Fujita is 18.
* MsFanservice: [[SubvertedTrope No.]] She ''tries'' to be this, but it’s solely PlayedForLaughs because of how utterly flat it falls.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Had Fujita arrived a moment later the whole incident with her face would not have happened (Kaiman would have spat her out to ask what the man inside his throat said to her).
* PluckyComicRelief: Early on she acts wacky due to her amnesia, but after recovering her memory it's due to Chota's devil hairclip stuck in her brain.
* PurpleIsPowerful: Which shows that she can be deadly when stimulated enough. The thing is that she's actually pretty weak.
* ReplacementGoldFish: When she ran away from home her parents paid a magic-user to make a clone; unfortunately the clone was very unstable and scared them out of their house.
* SadClown: PlayedWith as she shows involuntary signs of this due to the devil hairclip. In the aftermath of [[spoiler:Kai's attack on the En household]] Fujita noticed that, while Ebisu could only laugh at everything, she actually looked very sad.
* ScaledUp: Her smoke turns people into reptilian monsters. It wears off on its own after a while.
* {{Squee}}: After seeing [[MrFanservice En]] naked... [[MaleFrontalNudity from the front]].
* TalkativeLoon: She just loves spouting off random nonsense, or to comment what's happening in the most to .
-->'''Noi:''' Woah! What's [[FakeBoobs in these?]]\
'''Ebisu:''' Boing is in them.
* TearOffYourFace: In her first appearance no less. By Kaiman, who wasn't set on letting go of her yet when Fujita pulled her from Kaiman's maw and escaped. It had wrecked her sanity and the story doesn't let up on the abuse from there.
* TinyTyrannicalGirl: Towards Fujita, but it's mostly teasing, it's pretty obvious she has a crush on him.
* TokenMiniMoe: The youngest of En's family at 13, and she's decidedly more messed up than the usual examples of this trope.
* TomboynessUpgrade: Presently a tomboy, but in the past she dressed in a more feminine way.
* TraumaInducedAmnesia: Until her memories come back as a result of tripping on En's mushrooms of all things.

-----
* DissonantSerenity: They’ve been working with clones for so long they seem unbothered by aspects of their creation, like their nakedness at birth, that they can come out deformed if they screw up the recipe, or that their destruction is just as gory as that of a human and very upsetting to watch for the original.
* TheFaceless: Their mask (a whole roast turkey) has no eye or mouth holes.
* NiceGuy: They're pretty friendly, being just affable instead of AffablyEvil.
* NonActionGuy: Their clones, though formidable, are totally out of their control, leaving them with no real combat powers.
* SupremeChef: They're capable of creating clones of everyone.
* TokenGoodTeammate: While it’s hard to call the En Family truly evil in such a gray story, Turkey is the only (albeit unofficial) member who is unambiguously good. 681* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: The Surviving Cross-Eyes are members who were paid to fight instead of think, and their initial introduction is rather... unimpressive. 682* MirroringFactions: As a gang of low-level magic-users picked and abused by powerful sorcerers, they face many of the same problems as the residents of Hole.
* FacialMarkings: Crosses on both eyes.
* FantasticDrug: They produce and sell the mysterious Black Powder that is seen throughout the series. Only their boss knows where it comes from though...
* FantasticRacism: The reason for the gang is that Sorcerer's societal order is more or less might makes right. The powerful ones who have powerful magic rule the world and the weaker ones are left to fend for themselves. The Cross Eyes create a sense of unity and protection for the members, bring safety in numbers, money, and giving members a purpose. They also return the hate from strong magic users and don't mind harming people such as En's family and the like for being high and mighty.
* GangBangers: Contrasted with En's family's more [[TheMafia mafia]]/{{Yakuza}} feel.

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:By the end, everyone who still believes in the Cross-Eye's goal either died before they saw what it really meant... or has the name "Kai". The rest are filled with nothing but regret.]]
* NoPlaceForMeThere: [[spoiler: At the end of the series, the surviving members are shown to be in Hole. Either due to the fact they can't use magic to make a door or they see no reason to return to a world they almost destroyed]]
* PerpetualPoverty: A running joke regarding the good members of the gang.
* TattooedCrook: They’re called the Cross-Eyes because they tattoo crosses over their eyes as part of their initiation. [[spoiler:With the exception of the Boss, whose eye crosses are noted to appear less like tattoos and more like birthmarks.]]
* WeakButSkilled: From the perspective of the Sorcerer's World, they are barely above humans because they can't use magic at all or their powers are useless. 698-> '''Age''': 30
->'''Magic''': PowerParasite, BrownNote to Magic-Users

The mysterious boss of the Cross-Eyes. After he met Dokuga and his friends, about to be exiled by some Magic Users to the Hole, he killed the Magic Users, took them along with him through the door into the Magic Users' world, and formed the Cross-Eyes. He was attacked by Risu's Curse power after killing Risu and ended up in the Hole as Kaiman. He is revealed to be a product of Hole, a vengeful conscious entity formed from the bodies of humans killed by Magic Users centuries ago. Hole entered Ai Coleman's body when he jumped into the Lake of Refuse and manifested itself as Kai. He becomes an artificial devil through the absorption of multitudes of devil-shaped tumors and the use of new bodies created for himself. Due to years of PowerCopying, he is among the most powerful beings in Dorohedoro's universe.

He's also batshit insane.
-----
* AllergicToEvil: He ''is'' the Evil Allergen. His presence comes with an unmistakable aura that makes Magic Users experience a similar feeling to the one caused by Hole's rain.
* TheAntiChrist: Definitely. The man seems designed to draw parallels to various parts of the Book of Revelations. He is Hole-Kun given a human vessel, has a strange charisma that allows him to amass a large crowd of followers who (wrongly) see him as TheMessiah, like the mark of the beast said followers mark themselves to show their devotion to his ideals and later kill anybody lacking them, and lastly he is destined to summon his "father"/true self and end the world (or at least, ''A'' world).
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: He is the leader of the Cross-Eyes because no one is better at Killing Magic users than he is.
* AxCrazy: He started off as coolheaded and rational, but the trauma of death and Hole's growing influence turns him into a nigh-feral lunatic who leads the Cross-Eyes a murderous crusade against all Magic Users.
* BadBoss: He's typically a BenevolentBoss because [[PragmaticVillainy he's smart enough to not throw away useful minions]], but he won't hesitate if thinks they're more useful to him dead then alive: he kills Natsuki to take her magic for himself, and attempted to do the same to Risu.
* BigEater: One of his few humanizing traits. The man loves food.
* BigBad: Ever since his resurrection into a new, independent body from Kaiman/Aikawa. He is their EnemyWithout and proceeds to cause all sorts of mayhem.
* BodyHorror: His power-stealing method far eclipses even [[{{Series/Heroes}} Sylar's]] in freakiness: he rips out a part of Magic-Users's brains and ''inserts it inside his own ''.
* BodyMotifs: He, Kaiman, and Aikawa all have a head motif. presumably to reflect [[SplitPersonalityTakeover their struggle for dominance]].
* CurbStompBattle: Kills En without much trouble, and turns Shin and Noi in mushrooms while barely doing anything. At least in the latter case, it not really the first time. Except, the Cleaners only managed to get out because En had his showdown with Kai six years ago.
* DarkMessiah: He's seen as a saviour by the humans and members of his gang. But in reality, he's closer to being TheAntiChrist.
* EnemyWithout: He has always been the physical embodiment of Aikawa/Kaiman's worst traits, but up until recent events they all shared the same body. Then he gets his own, fully separate from the other two personalities, and things quickly go chaotic from there.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: [[AvertedTrope Averted]]. In a series absolutely full of this, Kai stands out for his total ''lack'' of loved ones, not even his own split personality is anything more then a tool for him.
* ExtraLife: Kai has nine spare heads, but by the time he's defeated, most of them are gone.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: Started out as a kid in the Hole who wanted to be a Magic User. He ends up a HumanoidAbomination who terrifies even [[TheArchMage En]].
* FatalFlaw: {{Greed}}. Had he not tried to steal kill Risu (who was fully loyal to the Cross-Eye cause up to that point) just so he could have [[AttackReflector Curse]] for himself, it's likely his plans would have gone off without a hitch.
* HellBentForLeather: he's always shown wearing his leather pants and black leather hoody.
* GeniusBruiser: As skilled a fighter as Kaiman and a devout pupil of [[MadScientist Dr. Kasukabe]], he designed the procedure that turned him into a Magic-User himself.
* {{Gorn}}: His fight scenes are among the goriest in the series, and his laboratory is covered with hundreds upon hundreds of decapitated Magic-User heads.
* GodzillaThreshold: The reason he ended up in the Hole and became Kaiman: With [[NighInvulnerable Risu's Curse]] after him and no clue on how to stop it, he decided to bite the bullet and let it kill him; but not before using a bottle of Ebisu's smoke to render his head capable of regenerating ''after'' Curse thought he was dead and gone. It left him amnesiac, but he was eventually able to come BackFromTheDead.
* HumanoidAbomination: His head ''explodes'' and is replaced by Aikawa's whenever they switch personalities and his mere presence can cause reality to deform into an Escher painting. His nature as Hole's human form means it's not inaccurate to describe him as [[MadeOfEvil made of hatred]].
* HumanSacrifice: What he called the mass of corpses and devil tumors he brought with him to Refuse Lake in Hole.
* IJustWantToBeAbnormal: As a human, he cannot become a magic-user and becoming a devil is impossible. He succeeds becoming one anyway.
* InTheHood: That and his Cross Eyes are what make him distinguishable from both Kaiman and Aikawa. He's also the most sinister of the four personalities.
* JekyllAndHyde: The Hyde to Kaiman/Aikawa's Jekyll.
* KnightOfCerebus: After his appearance, the whole story becomes DarkerAndEdgier. He kills En and takes over the Magic Users' World, leading to wholesale slaughter. The {{Gorn}} gets exaggerated.
* PsychoKnifeNut: Par the course of being not only a Cross-Eyes member, but their leader as well.
* LargeAndInCharge: Measuring in at nearly 6'10", he's noticeably taller than most of his subordinates. After he becomes a devil-like being he's four meters tall, making him the biggest of all the villains.
* LickingTheBlade: Licks...a lot of stuff, actually. This includes his knives.
* LudicrousGibs: How he kills Natsuki: luring her in with [[KissOfDeath a kiss]] before slicing her to pieces.
* PowerParasite: His M.O.
* PetTheDog: Saving Dokuga and his friends, and giving Ton one of his hamburgers. Though it just makes [[MoralEventHorizon what he does]] to Natsuki worse.
* SanitySlippage: Dying did a number on him. Kai was originally said to be a master criminal and a pretty good leader, and under his leadership the Cross-Eyes were equally good at both white collar and street crimes. His murderousness was more calculating and cold unless he was in the heat of a fight, and he walked around with a dour look on his face. After his re-emergence he's a whirlwind of hateful rage, can barely form an order more complicated than "kill everybody you see", and near constantly sports a SlasherSmile. That said, it's ambiguous how much this is Kai's personality, and how much is Hole asserting more control.
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: Aikawa and Kaiman are pretty decent fighters, but Kai is a HumanoidAbomination who can paralyse the most powerful sorcerers in existence with a glare.

Loyal to his gang, extremely skilled in hand to hand combat, and able to kill Magic Users with ease, he reflects the ideal of what a Cross-Eye should be capable of. He is extremely devoted to his small group of friends, who, like him, live in poverty to make sure that En does not find them.\

Shin and Noi find and restore his head, and he eventually gets his normal human body back. He wields Curse magic.

-----
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: He's able to use the Curse Magic. Unfortunately, he doesn't quite have full control over it.
* CursedWithAwesome: His Curse magic makes him perhaps the absolute strongest mage in the series barring Ascended Kaiman , but before he managed to get it under control he was apparently at risk of obliterating those around him by accident when Curse interpreted harmless actions as lethal ones. He gets a huge morale boost when he notices Asu is able to pull a GetAHoldOfYourselfMan and Curse is able to tell the gesture wasn't meant as a threat.
* CuteLittleFangs: His pointy canines are generally drawn a little too small to count as an example of FangsAreEvil, and they can often be seen when he's confused or smiling happily.
* DemBones: How he looks as Curse.
* DeathIsCheap: In the beginning of story, he was already dead, being killed by Kai. He was revived by Kikurage.
* DeathSeeker: According to [[GrimReaper Death]], who appears as an extraordinarily beautiful woman, but [[UncannyValleyGirl eerie]], he is a person full of hatred, ill will, and seeks to die.
* EldritchAbomination: His Curse form looks like the Grim Reaper crossed with a bird skeleton, and it's got the power to match: Not even ''Kai'' could find a way to beat it.
* EtTuBrute: He's killed by [[SuperPoweredEvilSide Kai]] and wants revenge, even after he already killed ([[ExtraLife technically]]) Aikawa.
* ExtraEyes: Sprouts an extra pair as Curse, along with an extra pair of ears, hands and an extra tongue.
* HairTriggerTemper: Not played for laughs, surprisingly. For most of his revived existence, Curse ran the risk of sending him into a positively lethal RoaringRampageOfRevenge over even the slightest physical threat, like a drunk tussle with a friend, or a sparring match with a comrade. Eventually, he manages to get his anger under control to the point Asu can beat sense into him with a radish and Curse will only try to protect him without retaliating, knowing the attack isn't meant to really hurt him.
* HollywoodCyborg: After being revived, his head is put into some sort of {{Dungeonpunk}} PoweredArmor. His full body is restored after Noi accidentally released her healing smoke onto him.
* IJustWantToBeSpecial: He just wants to be a Magic User, and goes to a magic academy to try and develop any latent abilities he might have.
* KillingIntent: Sensing one triggers his transformation into Curse it re-enters his body.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: When he crushes Aikawa's head he fulfills his Curse, leaving him powerless. Unfortunately, Aikawa was just the host for something ''worse''.
* NighInvulnerability: Any attack that is meant to kill him will reverse, inflicting on the attacker whatever they intended to inflict on Risu and then some. This means he could potentially defeat literally ''anyone'' in the entire series (barring Devils) provided their own attacks are somehow capable of damaging themselves.
* NoOntologicalInertia: Subverted. His Curse power is the only type of magic that remains after the Magic User's death.
* PunnyName: Risu means Squirrel. Fitting considering his [[HairTriggerTemper behavior]]. The author even mocks this in one of [[LampshadeHanging Nikaido's nightmares]].
* RedEyesTakeWarning: As Curse.
* RedHerring: The story leads you to believe early on that he's Kaiman somehow, but it turns out later that this is not the case. In fact, the person he is looking for is actually Aikawa, who is the "real" Kaiman.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: He's prone to this.
* SpikesOfVillainy: The spikes in his usual character design don't really indicate villainy, but its his Curse form that fits it better.
* SuperpowerLottery: His ''Curse'' magic lets him project and eventually transform into a [[AttackReflector indestructible]] evil spirit, the only being shown capable of stopping him is a Devil, who's powers are innately superior to that of a Magic-User's.
* VariableLengthChain: When he's Curse, he uses chains to deliver a world of pain to his enemies.
* WalkingSpoiler: Like Aikawa, it's kinda hard to talk about him without spoiling major plot points.
* WeaksauceWeakness: A Devil's song will weaken or destroy his magic.

* {{Foil}}: To Fujita, the other character associated with guns. Beyond the obvious fact they are in opposing factions, they also differ in pretty much every other aspect. Fujita has a closeted obsession with firearms (to the point his door is made of guns) but is banned from using them by En. Yasaka is encouraged by his gang to do whatever it takes to kill a target. Yasaka was born with no magic and despises magic users, Fujita was born able to use smoke and wants to be respected by elite mages. Fujita is perhaps the most loyal member of his entire gang, willing to throw his life away despite the mistreatment he's received simply because being loyal is what he signed up to do. Yasaka will betray anyone who even remotely stands between him and his goal. Lastly, [[spoiler: Fujita wants to revive En, his boss, while Yasaka wants to capture Kai and use him as a sort of black powder cow, if you will.]]
* TheGunslinger: Definitely the best firearm user in the entire manga.
* TheResenter: It's said his utter hatred of magic users is one of his defining personality traits, and may infact be the central part of his personality. [[spoiler:This ironically makes him resemble the Boss the most out of any Cross-Eye officer.]]

The Devil with a capital D. The original inhabitant of Hell, and the ruler both of the realm and every other devil who calls it home. Chidaruma is a nearly omnipotent entity who could totally reshape Hole and the world of Magic Users if he wanted, but decides to stay on the sidelines as he's almost terminally bored with his all powerful existence. Loves mean if harmless pranks, but will just as happily unflinchingly inflict horrible deaths upon people with the exact same attitude.
-----
* AllPowerfulBystander: He could crush every other Magic-User or Devil in existence if he wanted to, but he's grown so bored of his all powerful existence that he lets them rule Hell and Earth in his stead.
* AlienSpaceBats: He showed up on a backwater planet that caught his fancy, altered the course of one of its species evolution to turn them into the [[MageSpecies Sorcerers]], and let them loose to sow murder and mayhem on Earth. Eventually creating the modern society of Hole and The Magic-User realm.

* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: [[spoiler:Inevitably grows bored with his pet projects and either allows them to be destroyed (En and his family, the world of Magic Users) or destroys them himself, as he did with his entire circle of devils he spent millions of years collecting. 921* GracefulLoser: Shockingly. [[spoiler:He accepts the punishment he gets for losing the biggest bet ever made in Hell, a bet he only made because he thought it was an absolute (and completely rigged) guarantee. Although side stories imply he may be bored of being perfect, and wanted to experience what suffering was.]]
* GreaterScopeVillain: He's the source of a lot of suffering in the story and is the one who sets a lot of things up purely for his own entertainment. While Kai/[[spoiler:Hole]] eventually becomes his equal in power, he only got that way because Chidaruma let him.
** On an even grander scale, he created Magic Users, and gave them the sadism it would take millions of years to even begin to get under control (early magic users wiped out ''the majority of humanity'' just because). None of the plot would have ever happened if Magic Users had refrained from using humans as lab rats and targets.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler:Curse can't touch him, his equal in power Hole-Kun doesn't seem to recognise him as a magic user (perhaps because he predates magic users) and thus would never attack him, and even Ascended Kaiman knows he wouldn't stand a chance. Chidaruma would have been a true KarmaHoudini had he not made the bet that allowed the other devils to strip him of his rank and banish him.]]
* HornedHumanoid: Like all devils.
* HornsOfVillainy: Just like all other devils, he's definitely not a pleasant being. Unlike other devils, he doesn't have a single shred of decency in him. According to Asu, this is true of anything that was born a Devil (So called "Pure Devils")
* ItAmusedMe: A bonus story shows him pulling pranks on anyone he can. Said pranks involve scooping up bird poop and throwing it at people and making En's mushrooms rot.
** This is his sole existence in life. Chidaruma seeks for ways to entertain himself, apparently bored with the total omniscience he carries over both hell and the mortal realm.
* {{Jerkass}}: Apparently the longer you are a devil, the more bored you are, and the more of one you become. And he's been a devil longer than anyone else.

* TheOmniscient: Knows pretty much everything going on around him, and if he doesn't do anything about it, it's because he'd rather not interfere with fate.
* PhysicalGod: Having created magic users, the other devils, and being in charge of hell, he's the closest thing the Dorohedoro universe has to a [[DevilButNoGod higher power]]. [[spoiler: Meeting Hole-kun, another PhysicalGod, gives him am absolutely ''massive'' man-crush as he’s never met anyone even close to himself in power before.]]
* ThePrankster: He spends nearly all day pranking people or trying to start messes.
* {{Satan}}: Or at least, the equivalent in this world.
* UncertainDoom: [[spoiler:The Devils curse him to be a totally "normal human" for 50,000 years. "Totally normal" humans generally do not live that long, and if he really is just a human he will not go to Hell (Where his tortured soul form could have waited out the contract). Plus in a more short term sense, when he is thrown out into the world as a defenseless baby, what little remains of Hole-kun emerges from his clothing, staring at him and stating how much it hates sorcerers. It's ambiguous as to whether the remains of Hole-kun will try will protect the human he is now, or will sense the magic sealed inside him and kill him.]]

** [[spoiler:Nikaido has to use up one of her charges of magic to undo a future where she and Kaiman antagonized her by accident, as there was essentially no other outcome besides her killing Kaiman and maiming Nikaido in the process, and even in timelines where victory via the Store knife was possible at all it was simply too costly.]]
* [[AmicablyDivorced Amicably Estranged]]: Despite not having seen in each other in ''25 years'', Haru and Kasukabe are still friendly and have feelings for each other. [[spoiler:By the end of the story they seem to be dating again, as Haru not only tries to seduce Haze multiple times (and Haze would have been happy to oblige had the world not been ending) she tells Haze he can now expect her to visit regularly and he seems to be looking forward to it.]]
* AntiVillain: She's a devil, she torments souls. On the other hand, she has kept even more of her human attitude than Asu did. Unlike Asu, who at times seemed to be operating on residual instincts of protectiveness for Nikaido, Haru actually genuinely still likes and loves those who she liked and loved during her past life as a Magic User.
%%* BerserkButton: [[spoiler:People who hurt Haze.]]
* CulturalRebel: Devils are supposed to love expensive elaborate costumes and fine food. Haru seems to love dressing like she just robbed a thrift store and slums it with humans. Subverted that, devils being devils, they don't exactly ostracize her for being entertainingly different and in fact seem to like this part of her.
* DramaQueen: From bursting into song just to complain about blood on walls, to trying to instigate drama by urging Noi to be jealous when Shin talks to another girl, to killing another devil for ''giving her album a bad review,'' Haru ''lives'' for drama.
* DreadfulMusician: Likes to sing. However, because she's a devil, humans and magic users find her singing to be horrendous, while devils love it.
** LoudOfWar: When her singing is used to get rid of Curse. Also a quirk of being a devil.
* {{Ephebophile}}: Averted. Haru is a bit peeved that her husband is now physically 16 years old.

* InterspeciesRomance: Loves Kasukabe even though he's just a weak, puny human.

[[caption-width-right:350: The CycleOfRevenge [[AnthropomorphicPersonification Made Manifest]]]]

A devil born from the Lake of Refuse in the middle of Hole and Kai's true identity. It's a conglomeration of several different magic user victims that have morphed into one being, and its only goal is the eradication of all Magic Users as revenge for the suffering of normal humans living in Hole. It is the true antagonist of the story, and spends most of it using Aikawa/Kaiman as a host.
----
* AffectionateNickname: Chidaruma calls him "Hole-kun", probably to differentiate between the being and the location it's named after.
* AnthropomorphicPersonification: Of humanity's hatred towards sorcerers.
* AbstractApotheosis: [[InvertedTrope Inverted]]. while Hole represents the desire for vengeance, it is unable to act on its own for much of the story. It has to possess Aikawa until it forms a body.
* {{Acrofatic}}: More in the chubby side, but still is a devil and can lay waste to enemies.
* BigBad: Every character in the story ends up against him in one way or another, with the only one not fighting him being Chidaruma- and even then, Chidaruma isn't an ally so much as he's a TrueNeutral to the whole situation.
* CloudCuckoolander: He is entirely motivated by his hate of magic users, and as such the only thing he says is how much he hates them. He starts running out of insults very quickly and ends up resorting to "Magic users are uncool." There is also the fact that he begins singing about how much he hates magic users while Nikaido is trying to beat the hell out of him.
* CripplingOverspecialization: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. Most of his abilities are pretty much engineered to assure him victory if he fights magic users, but he's still ''really fucking strong.'' Still, this puts him in contrast to Chidaruma, who is basically unbeatable due to being a MasterOfAll.
* DarkMessiah: Furthering the symbolism surrounding Kai, Hole-kuns death and the religion that pops up afterwards can be seen as a very dark take on the death of Jesus and the resulting creation of Christianity. He appears, balances the karmic scales (though instead of forgiveness, he enacted revenge) then is martyred in a way that his death keeps those scales balanced forever (in this case, his statues make any human holding one more than a match for a sorcerer, ending the power imbalance that caused the problems in the first place.)
* DeityOfHumanOrigin: Chidaruma either considers him an equal, or close enough. He fawns over him and is desperate to gain his approval in a way that he never was with any other entity in history. Since Hole only manifested by combining with Ai Coleman, he is this.
* DynamicEntry: At one point he chases enemies via breaking wall after wall with his head, flying horizontally.
* EldritchAbomination: While other Devils are this as well, Hole ''really'' stands out from the rest as it was born from a literal RiversOfBlood made from the corpses of magically-tortured humans, and desires nothing less than the total eradication of the Magic User MageSpecies. It also doesn't talk coherently, unlike most devils who are fairly chatty.
* EvilIsPetty: As explained in his song, he says he hates magic users for all sort of petty things. However the fact that he was born from the horrifying atrocities magic users committed upon humans makes his evil way more understandable.
* HammerSpace: His pockets, in which he stores all sorts of things.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Fights with a giant knife and fork, which he uses to chomp down magic users.
* MookMaker: Is able to create devil-like creatures that help him fight.
* NightmareFace: Under that hood there is a terrifying ogre-like grin, and at one point it leaks ''whole corpses'' from its orifices.
* PsychopathicManchild: The entity might be older than anything in the series apart from Chidaruma, but Hole was only recently born, and tends to act like a spiteful child.
* TalkativeLoon: Its speech is not lucid, and it only seems to talk to itself. It’s very much like a disgruntled worker, or more specifically exterminator, who thinks they’re alone at their job site and is complaining out loud.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: Despite being a monstrous-looking HumanoidAbomination several stories tall, the people of Hole aren’t all that bothered by it because they understand on some instinctual level that it's human, just like them.
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: Oddly enough for a rambling EldritchAbomination, the people of Hole are almost universally on his side. His death and lingering curse form the basis of a very popular organized religion in the epilogue. This is implied to at least be partially thanks to the same instinctual process described in UnusuallyUninterestingSight. Dr. Vaux, who became friends with Magic Users and no longer wants their total destruction, cannot resist getting a Hole-kun statue of his own, and cannot explain why he cannot resist getting one.
* WalkingSpoiler: It is the one entity in the story that cannot be named without spoiling a huge reveal about the world of the story, and its existence is tied to several story events like Kaiman's backstory and the origin of the "rain" in Hole.
* WalkingWasteland: His existence creates one specifically for magic users, rain that slowly kills them in their world.
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: He's even more powerful then he was as Kai, but he's lost all traces of rationality and is completely obsessed with killed Magic-Users
* YouAreWhatYouHate: While possessing Kai, Hole gained power by murdering Magic Users for their Devil Tumors to implant into his own brain, and specifically hungered for extremely powerful or useful magic abilities. Eventually when Hole finally gained a body, it was through mimicking how Magic Users turn into Devils. His production of rain was via using his own gigantic door and his own black smoke from the original Lake of Refuse. In a sense, Hole had really evolved into a powerful Magic User whose power happened to be anti-Magic User abilities. Kaiman realizes that meant that Hole had the same fatal weakness as regular Magic Users, namely that the only way to fully kill Hole is to kill Hole's Devil Tumor.

-> '''Voiced by''': Creator/TetsuInada (Japanese), Creator/JamiesonPrice (English), Beto Castillo (Latin-American Spanish)
-> '''Age''': 36
Owner of a restaurant in the Magic Users' World. Gruff exterior, but truly cares about his staff in his own way.
-----
* AntiMagic: Limited example. He got so used to Asuka's love-powers he's grown immune to them.
* BenevolentBoss: Probably the nicest as far as magic user bosses go. Best exemplified during a flashback that reveals how he took a young [[spoiler:Kirion, then a runaway child slave, in his own care. He's been nothing but good to her despite her human background.]]
** Notably, while his hours are long and the work is tough, he’s always working alongside his staff.
* ChefOfIron: An amazing chef who can also rip people apart with his bare hands or butcher them with huge knives.
* ExpressiveMask: It's basically his face, just "furrier".
* FaceOfAThug: With his mask on, he looks like some sort of were-creature. Without his mask on, he looks like a Yakuza enforcer. Either way, he's actually one of the nicest characters in the series (Even Fujita was okay with magic practice)
* GoodOldFisticuffs: How he fights.
* HeroicBuild: Only done in more of a traditional Japanese way. Which means...
** StoutStrength: ...yep. He makes his introduction by squeezing a thug’s brains out and tossing him into a window.
* SecretSecretKeeper: Implied to have realised that Kaiman was from Hole. But decided to give him a a place to stay and tolerate [[BigEater his antics]] out of sympathy for the suffering humans endure from Magic-Users.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Tries to pull this during the eternal rainstorm to save his staff, only for Kirion to reveal her humanity and go out into the rain on his behalf.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He can be a greedy old bastard when he wants to be, but that's only 'cause he's got a business to run. Backstory shows him to be a kindhearted soul who's perfectly willing to shelter a runaway human slave from other (far less benevolent) magic users. Just ask [[spoiler:Kirion.]] He also admits that he's never resorted to abusing humans with his magic, something he shares with Fukuyama and Asuka (though in the latter's case, she didn't think humans were attractive enough to warrant using her powers).
* MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily: He's got a mouth like a piranha.
* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch: Is kinda disgusted with how most of Sorcerer-kind thinks it's okay to use humans, who are just as smart and emotional as them, for magic practice.
* {{Tsundere}}: Platonic example. He’ll loudly complain about how people are lazy or idiots and put them in angry headlocks... then selflessly stick his neck out for those same people in huge, life changing ways. [[spoiler:Tanba even risks the wrath of En to help Kaiman get inside his manor.]]
* SpikyHair: Even his goatee.

-> '''Age''': 19
-> '''Magic''': [[ForcedTransformation Meat Pie]]
Worker at Tanba's Meatbags. His magic ability allows him to turn anything into pies.
-----
* CowardlyLion: Very reluctant to fight, but when it comes down to it, he's willing to lay down his life to protect his friends.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: He can turn things into pies. ''Anything'' into pies. If his smoke touches a person, it's a OneHitKill. [[spoiler:When [[WorldStrongestMan Kai]] shows up after having taken En's Devil Tumor for himself, Fukuyama actually manages to ''hold him off'' in a smoke-based BeamOfWar.]]
* NiceGuy: Easily the nicest among Tanba's group, and just like the other two magic users, he never once looked down on humans nor thought of abusing his powers on them.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: He wanted to get the hell out and escape as every other magic user when [[TheDreaded Kai]] appeared. Tanba wanted to make money off the refugees.
* TechnicalPacifist: Gruesome as the transmogrification may be, Fukuyama's power does not actually appear to kill people on its own. If the "pie" remains largely intact, the transformation can be dispelled or the victim can be healed back to their original state. We never see Fukuyama actually finish off his opponents, though we do witness others doing them in.

The other worker at Tanba's Meatbags. A quiet BadassNormal who helps prepare the food and wears a bear suit.
-----
* AntiMagic: [[spoiler:She's unaffected by Aikawa/Kai's paralyzing "force field" and the debilitating rain. That's because it's confirmed in chapter 138 that she's a full-blooded human.]]
* BadassNormal: Can hold her own in a fight against mid level magic users.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: [[spoiler:Being the only human living in the Magic-users world, she is the one that ends up not only keeping her coworkers alive, but ultimately being integral to helping stop Hole-kun by destroying his Door to stop the rain. All while the main cast don't even know what's happening there.]]
* MundaneSolution: Spends a few days crafting an umbrella to ward off rain.
* SamusIsAGirl: Kirion is almost always seen wearing an odd-looking costume (FatSuit and all) which conceals her true appearance. And then she removes it...
* SuddenlyVoiced: [[spoiler:Overcome with emotion upon finding out that her co-workers aren't the same kind of bullying magic users that ruined her life, she speaks for the very first time.]]
* TheVoiceless: For the most part, Kirion only communicates through gestures and facial expressions, that is until the event described in the above trope.

Ex-worker at Tanba's Meatbags turned rival. Her magic charms men, making them fall in love with the food and her.
-----
* AngelicAbomination: The Angel creature she summons looks like a green, decayed human corpse with a HolyHalo.
* BatOutOfHell: Her mask is a whole skinned bat.
* {{Brainwashed}}: Via LovePotion. Her powers allow her to summon a demon that can influence men.
* CheatersNeverProsper: And if En finds out he was enchanted he's gonna kill her...
%%* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette
* EvenEvilHasStandards: [[spoiler:In the end... [[TheAtoner she makes amends with Tanba and the others]].]]
* LovePotion: The pies she make will cause any man who eats them to fall in love with her.
* ManipulativeBitch
* MatterReplicator: If Angel is fed a pie, several duplicates will appear in a hole in his chest.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:She later regrets everything she did to Tanba, according to WordOfGod.]]
* NoOntologicalInertia: If she runs out of energy, Angel will disappear and the LovePotion effect of her pies will stop working.
* APupilOfMineUntilHeTurnedToEvil: After Tanba found out that she had [[DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale non-consensual sex]] with him while charmed [[spoiler:a lot of times]], he was visibly shaken, but was still kind enough to refrain from killing her due to her [[SupremeChef talent]]. [[TheRival This backfired]].
* RightForTheWrongReasons: Like Tanba and Fukuyama, she too had never practiced her magic on humans... but only because she's not into having human men as brainwashed admirers.
* YouDirtyRat: Her clothes are decorated with dead rats.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: Death]]
A celebrity in the magic users world who is neither a magic user or a devil, but something else entirely. She fulfills her usual role as a psychopomp, but also manages to fit in a side gig as a movie star and fashion designer. Don't mess with her.
%%Only counts if she's using a fake name that sounds like Death* LouisCypher: Enjoys appearing in the guise of a very attractive Magic User in bars. It's not clear if being seduced by her kills you, or if the fact you ''can'' be seduced meant your death was already pre-ordained and she's just there to collect, but it's bad news either way when she buys you a drink.
* OutOfFocus: As the worlds mythology was fleshed out to revolve around Chidaruma and [[spoiler: Hole-Kun]], she played a smaller and smaller role in happenings.
* {{Psychopomp}}: Shin and Noi sometimes see her collect a few of their kills. Since Devils are normally the ones to drag people to hell, where she takes her harvest is anyones guess.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: "?" (Spoilers)]]
A being seen in Aikawa and Kaiman's nightmares. It is eventually revealed during Aikawa's resurrection to be yet another split personality living within Kaimans body, but out of all it is the least understood. His only goal seems to be to remind Aikawa of the crimes he's complicit in by hosting Kai, and by extension remind Kaiman who he is so he can set things right.
* BodyHorror: Simple decapitation wouldn't be enough for this manga. Instead parts of his chest have been shaved off too, leaving a clear window into his innards.
* NoNameGiven: We never figure out who or what he's supposed to be, other than he's always watching what the current dominant persoanlity is up to, much like Hole is. The fan wiki simply refers to him as "?".
* OmniscientMoralityLicense: His visions and nightmares arguably do more harm than good, but when one sees what Kai is capable of it's hard to blame him for trying too hard to convince Aikawa.
* TheOnlyWayTheyWillLearn: His nightmare visions don't do any favors for either of the main personalities in Kaimans body. They help leave Aikawa a guilt ridden suicidal wreck and Kaiman has literally never had a night where he ''hasn't'' had the same nightmare brought on by ?. Considering the hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, of deaths that occur because Aikawa didn't kill Kai in time, it's justified.
* TheUnintelligible: Can only make wet splashing sounds with what's left of its neck. Aikawa still holds a full conversation with it.
