[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sir_isaac_ray_pelham_westcott.png]]

The managing director of Deus Ex Machina (DEM) Industries who is the [[BigBad main antagonist]] of the series and the catalyst character to the story as a whole. Westcott is the creator of the Spirits and is directly responsable for the war between the Spirits and mankind. He plans to use the power of the Inverse Spirits to become a God to enslave and destroy mankind in order to rewrite the world in his image where mages will rule as the master race.

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:A-F]]
* AbusiveDad: [[spoiler:He "created" the ArtificialIntelligence Marina Arusu, the titular antagonist of ''[[VisualNovel/DateALiveArsInstall Ars Install]]'', Date a Live's second game. Even when he knows that the AI is human enough to consider him "her father", that doesn't stop Westcott from programming her to watch the Ratatoskr by hacking its program, despite knowing that she will very likely fail.]]
* AboveGoodAndEvil: Before the audience even hears from the DEM directors, the author states the company's atrocities are for the greater good of humanity. His methods are justified by his ends. This takes another level when he considered his crimes as a hobby, making it clear to Shido Itsuka that he did not believe himself to be evil, but simply beyond common morality.
* AbsoluteXenophobe: He hates humans in all aspects which explains why he acts with rudeness towards all human characters throughout the story.
* AdaptationalSexuality: Possibly. It's implied in the Light Novels that Westcott has an affair with Ellen while in the anime this is never mentioned.
* AffectionateNickname: Ellen and Woodman both call him "Ike".
* AggressiveCategorism: [[spoiler:Westcott [[MisanthropeSupreme hates all humans]], [[HatesEveryoneEqually no matter they race or age]], and wants to eradicate them and create a Nazi-like utopia where mages rule on the world.]]
* AmbitionIsEvil: He will do ''everything'' to achieve his goal.
* AnArmAndALeg: He loses one of his arms after dueling [[spoiler:Woodman, the founder of Ratatoskr]] in Volume 15. He is nonchalant about it, even casually swinging the limb with his other arm. He gets it reattached by the next volume.
* AndThatLittleGirlWasMe: At least in his first appearance, he tried to show an friendly and kind image of himself to Origami... [[FauxAffablyEvil but he couldn't hold this charade for too long]], [[ObviouslyEvil obviously]].
* ArchEnemy: Zigzagged. While and Woodman have been hostile to each other ever since Woodman left him and Ellen 30 years ago, they have been cordial to each other whenever talking to each other. [[spoiler:Even before engaging in a fight to the death in Volume 15, their pre-banter before the fight was described as two old friends chatting with each other.]]
** Shido is his second Arch-Enemy. Unlike Woodman, he has no sympthy for him, only hatred.
* AristocratsAreEvil: He was adopted by a wealthy British couple when he was a child. And his name is ''Sir Isaac Ray Peram Westcott'', is it now?
* TheAntichrist: He wants to rewrite the world according to his image. However, in the process he mentioned that he would make the world upside down, unleashing total chaos upon reality. His [[TheSociopath personality]] also brings him a step closer to this as well.
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: Subverted at first, as he admits that he is not a fighter to Shido in Volume 7. However, after Volume 13, after gaining [[spoiler:almost all of Nia's Qlipha Crystal (and by extension her Demon King, Beelzebub)]], he is more than powerful enough to back himself up as the totalitarian director of DEM Industries, easily subjugating allies and enemies alike.
* AssholeVictim:
** In ''Date a Strike'', Westcott chops off Edgar F. Caroll's head as punishment for straying away from Westcott's plans and for plotting against him. While it was a cruel action, Edgar committed MindRape of Wizards and allowed the insane Minerva Liddeel to rise to power, almost resulting in the total destruction of Tenguu City.
** In volume 8, he uses the body of his subordinate, James A. Paddigton to contact Elliot Woodman. Once he finishes his conversation, he explodes the internal organs of his pawn. Like Edgar, James is far from being a saint himself and was willing to destroy Irubi Island with hundreds of innocent lives only to capture Yamai.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: His relationship with Elliot even up to [[spoiler:his death in Volume 19]].
* AxCrazy:
** Despite being a very composed man, he has an ''incredibly'' warped mind. His psychotic true nature [[LaughingMad breaks out]] on occasion. His plans even make him sound like the only place that will accommodate him is a padded room, complete with straitjacket.
** Subverted in later volumes wherein [[spoiler:he is actually ''capable'' of feeling love and forming relationships]]. Therefore, [[spoiler:he's clearly a sane man who uses his relationships for his own pain-inducing pleasure]].
* BadassBoast: He has some cool quotes.
** "''I’ll leave this matter to you Ellen. [[TheDragon Ellen Mira Mathers]]. [[WorldsStrongestMan The strongest Wizard]] that is second to none. If it is you, you’ll definitely be able to accomplish it. No matter whom the opponent is, even if it is the being that causes the atrocity of destroying the world''". To his right-hand, Ellen Mathers.
** "''[[MassOhCrap Do you still not understand, even though I am saying this much?]]''". To the JGSDF officers.
** "''Not really, if that is the case then I don’t mind. I prefer humans filled with ambitions enough to bite off my neck when they get a chance.''" About Roger Murdoch and the DEM directors.
** "''The Kingdom has inverted! Now, prepare yourselves, mankind! It's time for the triumphant return of the Demon King!''" About Inverse Tohka
** "''Rest assured, after I finish my fun and self-satisfaction, I will give this company to all of you. Oh, it's going to be soon. Compared to the team we continuously waited until now.''" To Roger Murdoch and the DEM directors.
** "''It's simple. Compare to dropping a glass, dropping it from a higher place make it broke much easier.''" Westcott about to break Nia's sanity.
** "''Now, within a fairy tale… struggling in fantasy.''" After sending Shido and his Spirits to another reality.
** "''That’s the justification. From within itself, humanity is afraid of the things that they cannot comprehend, and from that fear breeds riots and madness. By that aspect, ignorance actually suppresses all the other virtues.''" Westcott's mature speech about humans as a child.
** "''I will kill Itsuka Shidou. No matter how many times you go back. No matter how many times you reset the world. No matter how many times you revise history. I will do it so thoroughly so that you will never be able to overturn it. Well, try and fight it if you can ──Worst Spirit.''" His death message to Kurumi Tokisaki.
** "''Cheers my friends. For all of you, are at privilege to witness the birth of the [[spoiler:Second Spirit of Origin]].''" [[spoiler:Turning himself into the Second Spirit of Origin]].
* BadassBookworm: So far, Isaac showed to be a very intelligent man, oftentimes getting through conflict simply by manipulating others rather than taking action himself and just using his victims to do his dirty work. But when he ''does'' take action, things aren't pretty, see KnightOfCerebus below.
* BadassInANiceSuit: Goes to the battle with a suit while his enemies are fully prepared. And guess what? He wins.
* BadBoss: He treats his subordinates, even the loyal ones, as disposable pawns in his grand scheme. He even ditches them without a second thought the moment they outlive their usefulness.
* BadGuysDoTheDirtyWork: Up until Volume 13, [[spoiler:after he gains Beelzebub]], he doesn't personaly go to war against his enemies, leaving everything but planning to his subordinates.
* BadPowersBadPeople: Westcott is now a very powerful Spirit with very useful abilities of summoning and omniscience, which he uses to commit evil deeds. [[spoiler:Turning into the Second Spirit of Origin which gives him godlike abilities]] qualifies as well.
* BaitTheDog: The best example of the series. Baits anyone in their moment of need, wins their loyalty with kind words and favors, and in the end, uses and abandons them to die.
* BigBad: The primary antagonist of the series. While he doesn't appear in at least first four volumes (the entirety of the anime's first season minus his involvement with Mana and Origami's new weapons), once he makes his appearance, it's made clear that he harbours ill intent towards the Spirits, and slowly overrides the story's basic ExcusePlot and the Spirits' [[CurbStompBattle Curbstomp Battles]].
* BigGuyLittleGuy: The little guy to Ellen's big guy.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: More like ''monster'' in human's clothing. His [[FauxAffablyEvil soft-spoken, polite demeanor]] is simply a role to hide [[TheSociopath his true personality]] - the truth is that he's a hateful megalomaniac.
* BloodKnight: He clearly enjoys fighting Elliot Woodman and the Spirits; in fact, he could have killed them right off the bat, and chooses to allow them to fight him simply for his own amusement. He also loves conflict and war so much that he is willing to kill thousands of adolescents and children just to sent a slap in the face of Elliot.
* BrainsAndBrawn: The Brains to Ellen's Brawn. Subverted in volume 13 when he finally becomes an Inverse Spirit. He basically becomes both afterwards.
* BroughtDownToNormal: In Volume 19, [[spoiler:he lost his ability to use Beelzebub when Kurumi ripped off his Sephira Crystal]], though that doesn't stop him from [[spoiler:faking his death to prepare the ritual in order to make himself the Second Spirit of Origin]].
* BullyingADragon: In volume 7, he actually [[IShallTauntYou taunts Tohka while claiming he was going to take the life of her loved one right in front of her]]. It's important to remember Westcott was right behind her and he was just a normal person at that time, without powers of an Inverse Spirit. With that in mind, it is correct to confirm Tohka could slice him in half like paper without difficulty if she wanted to.
* ButIWouldReallyEnjoyIt: His torture methods in Tohka. Despite his goal at that moment was just make Tohka enter in Inverse Form, his sadistic grin gave away his [[ToThePain secondary]] [[ForTheEvulz goal]]...
* TheCaligula: While he's the Managing Director of DEM Industries, he never shows concern for his subordinates and even the company, leading to the Board of Directors getting fed up with him in Volume 8. At the same time, anyone who dares to oppose him ends up under the threat of getting killed by his loyal, if psychopathic, henchmen.
* CantTakeCriticism: Westcott refuses to be questioned about his decisions. If someone questions his word, he immediately unleash an intimidating aura. Many of his Wizards felt that.
-->'''Wizard''': About that, Managing Director Westcott.
-->'''Westcott''': Hm? What is it?
-->'''Wizard''': Is it really okay to let chief executive Mathers to go to space?
-->'''Westcott''': Yes. Are you saying that my decision is mistaken?
-->'''Author''': Westcott intently stared at the pitiful wizard, like a predator hunting its prey. The unfortunate girl’s facial expression instantly paled, and she hurriedly shook her head in subordination.
-->'''Wizard''': N-n-no! T-that's not what I meant! Will chief executive Mathers still fight when she finds out about that thing!
* CardCarryingVillain: Subverted. While many people thought his plans was actually to cause much destruction and death as possible, the Volume 17 introduced him as a [[KnightTemplar delusional villain]] rather than a classic villain who enjoys causing pain. Over the course of the story, Westcott displayed it once when he ordered [[AttentionWhore Jessica Bailey]] and her squad of Wizards and Bandersnatchs to kill every single teenage watching the stage of [[PsychoLesbian Miku Izayoi]] and Shido and his friends just to give a [[WouldBeRudeToSayGenocide "slap"]] on the face of Ratatoskr as a "hell of greeting".
* CessationOfExistence: [[spoiler:The Demon King, Qemetiel, is in a form of a demonic void that allows him to cover the world in darkness before erasing someone from existence]].
* ChaosIsEvil: His plan is to unleash total chaos upon the world of the humans to wipe out all human race.
* ChildProdigy: From a young age, he could use magic without a difficulty or even knowing what magic even was. Not to mention, he was a skilled manipulator and an expert in all fields, including math, sports, sciences, linguistics, and arithmetic. Westcott had made extraordinary achievements in every field.
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: Has betrayed everyone who placed trust in him when he decides that they're a liability or no longer useful.
* ClassicVillain: An EvilBrit Foil of TheHero, who is represented by [[AmbitionIsEvil ambition]], greed and wrath. Also, represents the evil counterpart of the main hero. Shido who wants to save the world and Westcott who wants to plunge the world in destruction [[spoiler:to create a new one where mages will rule, in other words, a nazi-like utopia where mages will rule as [[MasterRace master race]].]]
* ColdBloodedTorture: One of his fetishes. He also goes on [[ToThePain a long and detailed list]] on what he would do Tohka in order to [[DespairEventHorizon push her to the brink]], like [[ElectricTorture electrocution]], [[AlmostOutOfOxygen oxygen deprivation]], [[{{Fingore}} peeling her nails]], [[TheToothHurts ripping out her teeth]], and [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil trample her dignity as a woman]]. We get to see the results of his torture in full in volume 13, [[spoiler:Nia re-experiences them with the Realizer implanted in her head.]]
* CombatSadomasochist: Unlike Ellen who hates feeling pain, Westcott is a complete sadomasochist who enjoys causing all kinds of pain in his enemy while also at the same time seems to love being hurt emotionally and physically. Thanks to his obsession with sorrow and despair, he enjoys hurting people as well as getting his ass kicked.
* ControlFreak: No one can argue his will and words. If they do? '''Chop their hands off'''. No one can open their mouth to doubt him. If they do? '''Arrest them'''. Nobody can question his orders. If they do? '''Execute them'''. [[SarcasmMode Once you join DEM Industries you must read the manual of the company which has only one line]]: ''the only thing you have to do is follow Westcott-sama's orders and keep your mouth shut. Welcome to Deus.Ex.machina Industries.''
* TheCorrupter: Tempted Origami over to his side with the promise of power to avenge herself on the Spirits.
* ConsummateLiar: Deception is one of his favorite tools, and he plays his pawns like fiddles.
* CorporateWarfare: His company is [[TheRival The Rival]] to the Asgard Electronics, and counters their actual private army with an [[ArmiesAreEvil army]] of numerous [[FacelessGoons Wizards]] and [[MechaMooks Bandersnatchs]].
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Of Deus Ex Machina Industries. He's basically the CEO/managing director, and is currently looking to rewrite the laws of reality to his liking.
* CrazyPrepared: In volume 14, when he [[spoiler:invades Ratatoskr's secret base alongside his troops]], Shido and the Spirits attack him at the same time but he simply [[spoiler:summoned a charged-up Beelzebub, and sent them to the fictional world]].
* CreateYourOwnHero: [[spoiler:The reason why Shido and the Spirits exists in the way we know is all because of Westcott. You can hate him with all your might but without this guy, the story of ''Date A Live'' would have never existed. If Westcott had not caused the destruction of China and Eurasia with the summoning of the First Spirit, Tohka, Yoshino, Kurumi and many other Spirits who appears on the series would have never existed and they would have been raised as normal humans, given their background where all Spirits were humans once with the exception of the First Spirit Mio Takamiya and Tohka. It was also Westcott's atrocity in [[WouldHurtAChild kidnapping Mana]] who lead [[TheHeroDies Shido to his first death]]. As soon as Shido refused to give Mio to him, Westcott [[KickTheDog shot him]] and killed him right in front of Mio, resulting in the Spirit "eating" Shido to give [[DeathIsCheap birth to him again]] in her womb in an attempt to [[{{Revival}} revive him]]; this resulted in Shido being [[CameBackStrong reborn as a Spirit]] able to seal the power of other Spirits. Without Westcott's corruption, [[BigGood Elliot]] and Karen would have never created Ratatoskr, the main heroic faction of the series that has been around since from Volume 1, helping Shido and saving all Spirits from DEM's threat. He is also this one for [[UnwittingPawn Mana Takamiya]]. If Westcott decided to kill Mana years ago, she would have never existed in the series and consequently she would never have saved Origami and the SSS Wizards from Minerva Liddell. Not to mention that without Mana, with the powers of an Adeptus Wizard given by Westcott, she would have never saved Shido from Kurumi Tokisaki and many of DEM's minions.]]
* CreateYourOwnVillain: He created several of these, both for the protagonists ''and'' himself.
** Jessica Bailey was brainwashed, becoming a psychotic murderer with a sense of insane loyalty in volume 7.
** In the same volume, he made Tohka became an Inverse Spirit, wielding a Demon King powerful enough to destroy the world. He invoked one of the most powerful supernatural forces in the universe and left the stage he created without worrying about the rest of humanity.
** Roger Murdoch was driven to insanity and tried to destroy Tenguu City just to kill Westcott in volume 8. And all this happened because Westcott tore off his arm.
** All members from DEM Board of Directors were taken to the feeling of revenge for the same reason.
** Origami Tobiichi has become a real villain after joining the DEM by Westcott's will in volume 10. [[spoiler:Volume 11's events however retcon this act due to the new timeline.]]
** [[spoiler:He is also responsible for the birth of Inverse Nia in volume 13, although Westcott quickly takes her Crystal moments after her birth.]]
** [[spoiler:He's also responsible for the Spirits coming to Earth in the first place, having summoned the First Spirit 30 years ago and leading Phantom to turn others into Spirits as a result.]]
** He is ''also'' the one who runs the things in [[spoiler:Ars Install, through his "daughter" Marina Arusu]].
* CreepyBlueEyes: His eyes are dark, dull blue in eye sockets that look like they were made with a knife.
* CulturedBadass: Unafraid of battle, getting hurt, killed or defeated. When his troops fails, [[SuperpowerLottery he go to the battle]] to do his dirty work with his own hands. Westcott remains very well-read, calm and sophisticated like any [[AristocratsAreEvil aristocrat]] need to be.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: [[spoiler:Having his race persecuted by humans and watching his fellows being burned alive turned him in the monster he is nowadays. Rather, it was a trigger to push him to villainy.]]
* DarkIsEvil: Wears jet black suits and his eyes can be charitably described as "dead".
* DarkMessiah: The DEM Wizards who have been brainwashed fit in this one. The relationship between Isaac and his Wizards actually goes further than a simple relationship between [[BadBoss boss]] and subordinate. Some of these Wizards go so far to the point to cause the death of countless innocent just to please Westcott.
* DeadpanSnarker: Retains a impeccably polite tone while dishing out the snark.
* DeathSeeker: While he is not a suicidal man who will waste his half-century plan for nothing, he still has insterest in the feeling of death. [[spoiler:This only appears when he is finally defeated, as he has no intentions to live if his ultimate plan fail. When he loses, he just wants to bring everyone else with him. Literally, the entire planet.]]
* DespotismJustifiesTheMeans: Only cares about staying in power as "God of the [[DystopiaJustifiesTheMeans new world]]" as well as staying on the position of director of DEM Industries by all means, even if it includes to cut off the limbs of his own subordinates and sent children to suicidal missions. And to achieve his goals he'll slaughter entire countries to so. Just ask [[spoiler:the Chinese and Eurasians as he is the primary instigator for the summoning of the First Spirit at Eurasia which had caused a massive spacequake that killed 150 million people]].
* DevilInPlainSight: Throughout his life, he had a talent for being charming, despite the fact that he was bad, bad news. When he grew up, this only became worse as he could no longer feel other emotions but DissonantSerenity.
* DiabolicalMastermind: He says he's a [[EvilGenius genius]], but his real genius is the ease with which he manipulates others to his will.
* DidntSeeThatComing: [[spoiler:Shido's KamehameHadoken caught him off guard, as he'd only used Beelzebub to study the Angels' powers and didn't expect a technique independent from them.]]
* DissonantSerenity: There's literally nothing that will make his faint grin and calm expression fade, not even when forcefully awakening an Inverse Form Spirit, nor ordering the beheading of a [[TheStarscream wannabe usurper]].
* DramaPreservingHandicap: [[spoiler:Nia's survival is this for him for volume 14 onwards, since once Rasiel is eliminated entirely, the paradox that is restricting Beelzebub's omniscience and future control will be lifted.]]
* TheDreaded: The entire JGSDF, AST, and the DEM Officers fear him for a ''damn good'' reason. Isaac apparently has such a reputation that he's more feared than Ellen Mathers in his company.
* DrivenToVillainy: Horrifyingly. Volume 18 reveals that Westcott was a normal person with a kind and soft heart, possibly even kinder than Shido Itsuka until a group of humans attacked his peaceful village, and he began to believe that the entire human race is evil and monstrous and deserves to be destroyed for the greater good of the mages. At first, he planned to destroy the humans to create a new peaceful environment for the mages. But soon, his mind got even more corrupted by his own {{Greed}} for the Inverse Spirits' power and had a change of plans; to [[GodhoodSeeker become the God of his new world to rule over all creation]].
* ElectricTorture: Many of his fetishes when "torture" is the matter.
* EmptyEyes: His eyes seems pretty dull and lifeless. Or for lack of a better word, ''dead''. They also show how much he's absolutely [[AxCrazy batshit insane]].
* EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas: In the most creepy and sinister way you can think. True, Westcott [[EvenEvilHasLovedOnes loved his mother from the moment he was born]]. She was demanding and rigid, but above all, she was kind and affectionate. However, when she died from a deadly disease, he began to feel true sorrow and sadness for the first time in his life. And it turns out, his love for his mother became a bizarre fetish for pain-induced pleasure, a feeling where he could feel joy and pleasure from suffering. He still consider the moment he saw his mother being buried as the happiest moment in his childhood. Wow.
* EvilIsPetty: He's a [[TheSociopath sociopathic]] [[AxCrazy lunatic]] that desires to see the world burn, but even with his grandiose ambitions that doesn't mean he won't try to get under your skin. At which point he even planned on using the prospect of ''rape'' as a JackBauerInterrogationTechnique just to be cruel.
* EvilBrit: He's the head of a company based in England, and holds the title of "Sir". He's also the emerging BigBad so far.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: Isaac Westcott makes it quite clear to the public that he '''HATES''' any kind of pacifism.
-->'''Isaac Westcott:''' Ellen, of this I am certain. A peace-loving idiot is much scarier than anyone with dementia.
* EvilCounterpart: To both of his ArchEnemy, Shido Itsuka and Elliot Baldwin Woodman.
* EvilerThanThou: Like Edgar F.Carrol learned in the [[OffWithHisHead most horrible way]], there is not enough space for more than one in DEM leadership.
* EvilFeelsGood: His defining characteristic. He loves all the atrocities and depraved things that people are capable of. Westcott is willing to overlook real attacks on his person so long as they're sufficiently "evil". When Murdoch is betrayed and captured, Westcott just ordered him imprisoned rather than killed, out of respect for the city destroying plot that had just been foiled.
* EvilFormerFriend: He shares a history with Woodman, as they along with Ellen were the founding members of [=DEM=].
* EvilGenius: Since he was a child, he was a brilliant young boy with many talents for magic. He is also one of the youngest people of the world to hold an immense power thanks to his intelligence, even the author describe him as person with skills that normal people can't have. Not to mention he always has strategies for his plans, turning him in the smartest character of the series.
* EvilIsHammy: As any EvilOverlord DrunkOnTheDarkSide needs to be. Particularly noticeable in Vol 13, when [[spoiler:he becomes a Inverse Spirit by taking Nia's Qlipha Crystal]].
* EvilIsEasy: [[ForTheEvulz Evil comes easily to him]]. He [[EvilFeelsGood loves all kinds of atrocities]], without regard to the people or places effected by them. He notes that his cruel methods make his goals more easily attainable.
* EvilIsNotAToy: The way how he treats the Inverse Spirits as mere "keys" to his master plan is almost seen like if he was overestimating them as they have enough power to destroy a whole continent. But as long he have Ellen and Artemisia around him, he can toy with them as much as he wants.
* EvilIsNotPacifist: [[EvilCannotComprehendGood Despises the very concept of peace]].
* EvilLaugh: He breaks into a sinister cackle after pushing Tohka over the edge and seeing her Inverse Form with his own eyes.
* EvilPlan: [[WouldBeRudeToSayGenocide "Rewrite" the laws of the reality according to "his own image"]] - [[HellOnEarth Use the power of the Spirits' Inverse Forms to plunge the whole world into endless chaos and destruction]] and create a new one where humans will be enslaved and exterminated and mages will rule.
* EvilSorcerer: Played with. Westcott was born in a peaceful village of mages, people who can use magic and it's stated that is a brilliant magician. However, he is practically never shown using magic.
* EvilOverlooker: In many ''Date A Live'' posters.
* EvilWearsBlack: Wears a jet black suit, black social shoes and black social pants.
* FaceFramedInShadow: During the Miku Truth arc, his face had a tendency to have rather sinister lighting during his appearance in the DEM chamber.
* TheFaceless: Only in the ''Date A Strike'' spin-off. He is this one until Volume 4.
* FakingTheDead: [[spoiler:He survives Kurumi's assassination attempt on him]] in Volume 19 where he will strike the heroes while they're enjoying themselves on the beach where he [[spoiler:becomes the Second Spirit of Origin]].
%%* FantasticRacism: See AbsoluteXenophobe above. (Administrivia/WordCruft; of the Positional comparatives variety)
* FauxAffablyEvil: He is polite to a fault, especially to the other members of DEM's board of directors. However, after Roger Murdoch tried to remove Westcott from the post of director of the DEM, he and the other members who voted to remove him had their arms cut off by Ellen, and after his true identity was discovered, he was called a "monster" within his own company.
* FictionFiveHundred: He is the [[CorruptCorporateExecutive managing director]] of one of the [[MegaCorp largest international companies]] in the world, the only company able to produce weapons to fight against Spirits, as well as having his own [[PrivateMilitaryContractors private Wizard army]]. His weapons are sold to every country on the planet. Reading this, is very easy to say that Westcott is a extremely rich person. [[ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney And money is something that is never lacking in his pocket]].
* FinalSolution: [[spoiler:[[AbsoluteXenophobe He wants to kill the all humans]] of the planet because he believes [[KillAllHumans they are all equal and evil by nature]] and plans to create a world where [[MasterRace mages will rule as gods]]... Considering he is no better than the humans who attacked his village.]]
* {{Foil}}: Shido's complete antithesis. Shido is a middle-class Japanese teenager; Westcott is a wealthy British adult. Shido is introspective; Westcott is flamboyant. Shido acts on impulse; Westcott is a chessmaster. Shido is associated with the color blue; Westcott loves dressing in black. Shido is secretive and humble in his heroic duties, while Westcott brags about his achievements. Westcott is not above victimizing his own allies to get what he wants; Shido is willing to give his own life to save and protect others. Shido prioritizes saving the Spirits and happens to gain their Angels in the process, while Westcott actively pursues their Demon Kings with no regard for their lives.
* ForTheEvulz: For a while, this was his definition but soon the Volume 17 showed we were wrong about him... Isaac Westcott actually [[KnightTemplar believes he has all right]] to [[TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt destroy the current way of life on Earth]] and thinks himself as the most righteous person in the world. However, for a moment in the series he proved to display this when he had Jessica and his minions attacking a concert with thousands of innocent lives just to send a "greeting" to Ratatoskr.
* FreudianExcuse: Ooh boy. Westcott is a complex villain and it turns his excuses complicated. [[spoiler:Westcott had three of them: first seeing his pet dying (discovering the feeling of death), then his mother dies (and finally discover his pleasure in his own suffering), and then humans invade his village and put to the sword all his fellows friends and family. While his hatred for mankind is justified, it turns out he invested in this tragedy to seek more suffering for others and himself. Thanks to his past experiences, he discovered his true self. The audience is presented with several possible origins for what he does, but they all prove to be false. Deep inside, Westcott is simply pure evil.]]
* FromNobodyToNightmare: While he wasn't considered a hero because of his innocence when he was a child. He was considered nothing but a normal civilian until [[StartOfDarkness the traumatic events caused by humans]] that [[ManipulativeBastard turned him what he is nowadays]].
* TheFundamentalist: His goal is the complete genocide of mankind and anyone who dares to critize or oppose him is a fool. He clearly refers Ratatoskr as a bunch of greenhorns for fighting against his wish that is the for the greater good of the mages.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:G-L]]
* TheGift: [[spoiler:Unlike other mages, Westcott was already a brilliant and genius even as a child. He was a master in magic, occultism, theology and alchemy. His brilliant intelligence allowed him to get adopted by a British couple in a very known family.]] Using his own IQ and money, Westcott founded DEM Industries and became one of the youngest businessmen of the world. Even the author refers him as a genius.
-->'''Volume 9''': Having finishing the remaining simple business inside the private jet, Isaac Westcott came out from the VIP entrance of the airport and rode the car waiting for him before heading towards the lodging area in Japan’s Tokyo metropolitan Tenguu city’s hotel. He was a characteristic tall man with dark ash blonde hair, and a pair of sharp eyes like naked blades. His age should be around in his mid-30 but, the dangerous atmosphere covering his body was disrupting the appropriateness of his age. At the least, he was somewhat too young to be burdened with a world class enterprise known as DEM industry---------such an impression was probably impossible to someone unless they have met with him directly.
-->'''Volume 13''': The man is being assisted by an ash blonde haired woman whose appearance could attract every man. Her facial expression is as sharp as a sword which would cut them down, making those two fall into silence with their faces getting paler. That man’s appearance looks young. It seems like he’s in the middle of thirties. But why does this young appearance suit with him despite his age? He doesn’t looks like a middle age man at all. Actually, this year Knox is forty-eight years old, so you can say that this man’s age is younger than him. Of course that’s only natural. The person over there isn’t an ordinary man. He’s a man whose name is famous in the world as a world genius financial monster from DEM Industry, its first generation founder: Sir Isaac Westcott.
* GodhoodSeeker: He constantly [[InvokedTrope invokes]] his so-called "dearest wishes" by attaining godlike power from Inverse Spirits as part of his plan to rewrite the world, after which he'd declare himself as the new world's "[[CardCarryingVillain evil]]". Finally achieves this in Volume 19 when he [[spoiler:becomes the Second Spirit of Origin]].
* GracefulLoser: Despite his childish tendencies, Westcott does not lose his calm even when his plans are a foiled by the heroes. Instead, he just calmly plans his next step while accepting his defeat instead of being a SoreLoser like Ellen Mira Mathers and others DEM officers. However, this is subverted when he finally got enough of Ratatoskr and Kurumi and decided to give the main character a "''screw it''" by sending all his forces to Tenguu City to get rid of all his enemies.
* GoodIsBoring: Claims his goals are for the greater good of the mages race but he discards all the good means to achieve his dream.
* GrandTheftMe: During the events of Volume 8, Isaac Westcott took control of [[spoiler:[[TheCaptain James A. Paddigton]]'s body while the latter was in Ratatoskr's custody]]. He used that opportunity communicate with Elliot Woodman. Once the conversation between Isaac and Elliot was over, Isaac showed no remorse in killing his host in front of Elliot.
* GreaterScopeVillain: While he's often behind everything that "transpires", occasionally things go wrong without his help. In these cases he usually lays back and waits for an opportunity to use these events to further his own agenda.
** In the non-canon game, ''Ars Install'', he has more of a background presence as he observes the conflict between Marina and Ratatoskr. He is the one who created the AI Marina Arusu and personally sent her to Fraxinus' system in an attempt to take down their ship and take half of Tenguu City with them. Basically, everything that happens in the game is because of him.
** In the non-canon Chinese game, ''[[VideoGame/DateALiveSpiritPledge Spirit Pledge]]'', continues in the route. Despite never coming into contact with the protagonists and the Spirits, it's the DEM Industries that is sending waves and waves of enemies at the player. Apparently, the DEM in this world has even more power than in its original universe, because not only the DEM Wizards comes after you but Wizards of AST, drones of the Japanese government.
** He serves as it in the prequel spin-off ''Manga/DateASTLike''. The organization which Mikie Okamine and other SSS Wizards are fighting against are the DEM Industries. After the protagonists discovered the true horror that DEM Industries are performing in humans, the immediately turn against them and a few Wizards of AST began to help the Rebels from SSS to free Artemisia from DEM's hands. Apparently, Edgar F. Carrol was more like a BigBadWannabe in the end.
** He once again becomes it in the original series before he was even introduced. During the events of Volume 1 and 4, the AST were the main antagonists that the protagonists had to face. Little did they know that AST was more like a pawn to DEM Industries in their attempt to find and capture a Spirit. Not only that but all equipaments of all Anti Spirit Teams of the world to fight the Spirits were manufactured by DEM. He starts meddling directly with the story when DEM sent Mana Takamiya to Tenguu City to take care of AST's lack of competence. When the former failed to do her job, he then sent the White Licorice to JGSDF in an attempt to find a Wizard capable of piloting it; the same equipament used by Origami Tobiichi when she came to the conclusion Kotori Itsuka was the Spirit who killed her parents 5 years ago.
** In Date A Bullet, his double suicide with Mio signals the beginning of the collapse of the Neighboring World.
** Then in the ''Ais Catastrophe'' Crossover Campaign for the ''VideoGame/MemoriaFreese'' Mobile Game, [[spoiler: he was essentially a role model for the [[OriginalGeneration fake Kaguya]], who was the main threat of the campaign]].
* {{Greed}}: He's really obsessed about harnessing the powers of a Spirit's [[SuperpoweredEvilSide true form]].
* HatedByAll: Everyone hates Westcott. This is more evident in Vol 8, where it's established that the only reason his men follow him is because they're afraid of being tortured or killed. The few people who are loyal to him are the ones who were brainwashed by his scientists (except for Ellen, his loyal [[TheDragon Dragon]]). Without the Realizers, Westcott would be nothing but a pile of centralized hate.
* TheHeavy: He's actually the true villain in ''Ars Install'', where he controlled the short lifespan of the game's BigBad as well as his "daughter", [[spoiler:Marina Arusu]]. He also has a hand in almost everything that happens in the series. The Spirits who appears on Earth for 30 years appeared because he, along with Ellen and Elliot, summoned the First Spirit. Elliot left Isaac Westcott for some ''good'' reason...
* HopeCrusher: He ''thrives'' on being this with the Spirits to make them go Inverse, preferring to have his victims terrified, hopeless, and killed them knowing that they never had a chance to save their loved ones, as Tohka finds out the hard way.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Claims that all of his actions are for humanity's greater good, when in fact he is committing atrocities against civilians for his own enjoyment.
* IAmTheNoun: He states himself to be the rules of DEM Industries, and the scary part is that, given how much control he has behind the scenes, he's right.
* IControlMyMinionsThrough: Westcott is a big fan of controlling his flunkies through fear as he sees love and tolerance as useless to keep his minions in line. He's orders of magnitude more powerful than the rest of his subordinates put together and a sadist that has no problem killing them. So they have little choice but to obey him or have a Realizer installed inside of their brain to become a brainwashed psychopath.
* IcyBlueEyes: A bit dark on the colouring, but his eyes are of a dull blue that give away the fact that's he's a cunning and sinister schemer.
* ImmortalitySeeker: Never mentioned about immortality because of StrawNihilist status. However, considering the Inverse Spirits are immortal beings and he wishes to become one to remake the world in his image, [[ImmortalityInducer immortality comes like a bonus to his ultimate goal]].
* InLoveWithYourCarnage: The reason why he left Roger Murdoch alive after his treason is because he ''loved'' the methods Murdoch used to kill him; using three satellites to destroy an entire city with millions of innocent lives.
* InformedAbility: Downplayed. [[spoiler:The Spirit Formula he performed alongside Woodman and Ellen kicked off the story by creating the First Spirit,]] but the abilities of pure magicians aren’t given much detail compared to Wizards (which both of the other two became), and he openly admits that [[NonActionBigBad he’s not a fighter]] [[spoiler:before obtaining Beelzebub.]]
* InsufferableGenius: Isaac is the self-proclaimed "genius", and considers all who are against his wishes as "incompetent fools".
-->'''Isaac Westcott:''' Did you see that, Ellen? Everyone there did not see how grave that matter was. All of the incompetent fools joined together, were weird enough to put the blame on a genius that is 1 in 10,000.
* {{Irony}}: He's openly views himself as a good and righteous person who is fighting for the greater good of the mages while considering everyone who fights for mankind as "evil", however, he's actually one of the most evil villains created by the writter, ever.
* IShallTauntYou: Isaac Westcott, like many DEM officers, is often seen using intimidation, threats and taunting to weaken his opponents.
* InTheirOwnImage: His ultimate plan is to rewrite the human reality in his own image and remake the world as he believes what is right.
* ItAmusedMe: Watching Ellen fight Inverse Tohka without telling his secretery the weakness of her enemy and watching over the battle of Ratatoskr against Roger Murdoch's rebel faction.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Other people are just means to an end for him. Some of them are tools for his goals and some of them are playthings.
* IWasJustJoking: Although he is the BigBad and an HateSink, he's still playful and childish, especially with Ellen. His constant joking leaves her furious, and his excuse is always ''I was joking''.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: When he even freely admits that all the horrible things he did in stories were indeed true. And he has no compunction about showing it.
* JokerImmunity: Has a nack for [[KarmaHoudini getting away with his crimes]]. [[spoiler: [[KarmaHoudiniWarranty Until Volume 19, that is.]]]]
* JoinOrDie: In volume 8, He asks Elliot to join him again for his goal be more "pleasant". Elliot refuses. Hearing this, Westcott said he would not hold back when they next met.
* KarmaHoudiniWarranty: [[spoiler: After repeatedly getting away with all sorts of atrocities, he's finally put down like the rabid animal he is in volume 19.]]
* KickTheDog: Honestly, he cross this line ''multiple'', however, he first crossed this when he orders Ellen to murder Shido in front of Tohka, forcing her transforming into Inverse Form while he [[LaughingMad maniacally cackles]]. His current plan is to do it again so that all the sealed Spirits do it at the same time.
* KickTheMoralityPet: At the same moment the human race attacked his village, he discarded all the goodness within him to wipe out all humans of the world. Not to mention that he is implied to have ''killed'' his own adoptive parents who took care of him as a child.
* KickThemWhileTheyAreDown: In Volume 7, Isaac orders Ellen to execute the disarmed Shido Itsuka after Ellen stabbed him. He clearly wanted to behead Tohka's loved one in front of to show an even more bizarre scene.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: It's been a long time coming, but in volume 19, he finally gets his long overdue comeuppance.]]
* KnightOfCerebus: Once he starts meddling with the protagonists, the story progressively becomes more than just a race to seal the most Spirits.
** This takes two stages. When he and his minions start take actions against the protagonists, he reveals various plot threads that has been foreshadowed since the beginning (Phantom's involvement with the Sephira Crystal) as well as new ones (Inverse Spirits), and things get serious. This continues up until Volume 13, when [[spoiler:he finally gains one of the Spirit's Qliphoth Crystals, and becomes an Inverse Spirit himself]], where he ups the ante by taking actions himself. Not only things get FromBadToWorse pretty fast, he even shows us in Volume 16 how ''easily'' [[spoiler:he can end the plot by simply killing Shido in the middle of his everyday life]].
** Volume 19 takes it to the cake [[spoiler:when he stole Mio's powers in order to become the Second Spirit of Origin]].
* KnightTemplar: Despite Isaac is such {{Sadist}} who loves pain and the suffering from humans and spirits, Isaac seems to consider himself to be the right side in the war between Ratatoskr and DEM and indirectly sees his enemies as the true "evil" trying to stop him from completing his "deareast-wish". Whether he is serious or just using metaphors is yet to be seen.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: Against [[SuperpoweredEvilSide Inverse Form Tohka]], he retreats along with Ellen as she had been injured in an earlier fight and thus wasn't fighting at her full strength.
** Technically speaking, he always hardly appears without committing some villainy, but has always come out unscathed from all possible punishment.
* LackOfEmpathy: Most, if not all, of the Wizards under his command express [[UndyingLoyalty unwavering loyalty towards him]]. He still treats them like disposable pawns.
** Subverted in later volumes when it's revealed [[spoiler:he ''genuinely'' loved his family and friends. It's just he finds that "happiness" and "sadness" from betraying them as they watched him destroying their world. The more he loves someone, the more he wants to treasure and revel in their despair, which is why he set up his own friends to experience despair by his own hand]].
* LastNameBasis: His name is actually quite large and unnecessary to be used in conversations. Most characters only refer him as "Westcott" or "Isaac Westcott".
* LaughablyEvil: Westcott is one of the most vile and despicable characters in Light Novels around, but that doesn't stop him from having some hilarious moments at times.
* LeaveNoSurvivors: [[ManipulativeBastard While he planned to let most of the Ratatoskr's crew alive]] for some time to keep Ratatoskr working to protect the Spirits from AST, he got tired of them and decided to send a full-assault force to invade their headquarters and orders all his forces to shoot any target in sight, be they combatants or not.
* {{Leitmotif}}: Westcott is one of the few character in the series that have a song for his own character. Unlike all the songs that were composited on the anime adaptation, his song is deeply dark, shadowy, sinister and frightening. His music represents the darkness and evil in his heart. His OST is "[[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Isaac]]".
* LetNoCrisisGoToWaste: Westcott uses the hatred of mankind toward Spirits to further his [[EvilPlan plans in capturing a Spirit]]. Not to mention he used the Spacequakes from 30 years ago to sell his Realizers to all military of the world. This is more evident when he sends his troops to AST to assist them.
* LiesToChildren: He brainwashed Mana and told her that was the DEM that gave a "home" to her; a "home" in an extremely corrupt corporation composed by mercenaries psychotics.
* LoveIsAWeakness: The reason why he hates Ratatoskr is because of their [[EvilCannotComprehendGood kindness and peaceful methods]]. Westcott believes benevolence and peaceful methods will only lead people to their defeat which is why he uses brutal methods to achieve his goals.
* LoveHurts: And he enjoys using love, the most pure feeling living beings can feel, to break them. He invokes and uses this as part of his manipulation plans. He knows that loving someone makes them a [[LoveIsAWeakness weakness]], so he purposely attacks the Spirits, tortures them and use their feelings for someone to break their sanity. He apparently invokes it on himself as well; to feel the ultimate feeling of pain and despair, he gets attached to other people just so he can feel his love for them twist into a sick feeling for sadness and sorrow. According to him, there is no better feeling.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: When Inverse Tohka tried to kill, Ellen protected him with a territory that can also be used as a shield.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:M-R]]
* MachiavelliWasWrong: He was certain that using the AST as bait would allow his troops to destroy Ratatoskr's Spirits and Wizards. It backfired, because the general outrage over being abused constantly by DEM Industries' Wizards and for having their laws violated, the AST decided to join Ratatoskr and fight the DEM Industries instead... Because, even at that point, [[EvenEvilHasStandards they finally realized who was the true enemy]].
* TheManBehindTheCurtain: Subverted in his third confront with the Spirits. When Shido and the Spirits meets him in person at Ratatoskr HQ, he doesn't look like a physical threat as he had a Wizard with him. Then comes Beelzebub Demon King.
* TheManBehindTheMan: In ''Ars Install'', he has more than a background role where he observes the conflict between Marina and Ratatoskr. He created one of the first Irregular of the story, is the reason why [[TheDragon Marina]] tried to destroy the ''Fraxinus'', and was almost indirectly responsible for the destruction of Tenguu City.
* ManipulativeBastard: He subtly manipulates everyone to get what he wants. First, trying to murder Shido just to awaken Tohka's Inverse form. Then, when Murdoch and a few other DEM executives conspire to remove him by all means necessary, he indirectly forces Shido and the Spirits into foiling the assassination plan, given they had to prevent said plan from causing any harm to the city.
* MeaningfulName: His name means "he who laughs" in Hebrew. After he successfully making Tohka despair and transform into Inverse Form, [[EvilLaugh you can guess]] [[LaughingMad what he'll do next]]. [[spoiler:He also have the same maniacal laughter after the First Spirit was successfully summoned along with a spacequake that had killed 150 million people]]
* MeaninglessVillainVictory: In volume 16, Westcott finally managed to kill Shido Itsuka and made all Spirits he sealed so far go into Inverse Form after being exposed to [[DespairEventHorizon despair and insanity]]. At the same moment, when the Spirits inverted at the same time, the whole city of Tenguu was destroyed and soon the [[TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt entire world was going to end in a storm of darkness]]. However, it was useless. Kurumi Tokisaki returned to the past and undone that disturbing future... Despite he never showed any negative feelings towards Kurumi, he was clearly ''[[VillainousBreakdown pissed off]]'' with her for undoing the futures where he is the victorious ''twice''. This time, Westcott took the fight to Kurumi Tokisaki and to make sure she will never do that again he dispatched his entire armada of tens thousands of soldiers, slaves and drones to make sure he will kill Shido ''for good''.
* MindRape: He did this with several people in his company, [[WouldHurtAChild including Mana]]. One example is when he made Tohka watch [[TheHero Shido]] being killed in front of her in order to lead her to cross the DespairEventHorizon and leave her mentally unstable.
* MisanthropeSupreme: Despises all of mankind, be they men, women, children or even infants. Worse, [[KnightTemplar he feels he is doing the right thing in killing billion of innocent lives]].
* MookMaker: A prominent ability that Westcott keeps on using since gaining [[spoiler:Beelzebub]]. While at first he only creates minor shadowy creatures that are practically only a threat against a normal person, in Volume 16 he starts creating {{Elite Mook}}s in the form of [[spoiler:Nibellecoles, which take the form of [[CanonImmigrant Marina Ars]], an OriginalGeneration character from the second Date a Live game]].
* MoralSociopathy: He's [[LackOfEmpathy selfish and cruel]], but otherwise he sincerely believes half of the things he does genuinely are for the "greater good" of the mages' race.
* MurderIsTheBestSolution: He considers the murder of hundreds of innocents an easier way to accomplish his goals.
* MusclesAreMeaningless: [[spoiler:Though his Demon King provides a justification for this, as it enhances one's physical strength. He fought on-par with Elliot Woodman, who has proven strong enough to overpower even a Demon King with his strikes. He also has no real difficulty blocking a Spirit's attack.]]
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: He's the director of DEM and the mere mention of his name around Fraxinus really scares the Spirits, mainly Tohka Yatogami and Nia.
* ANaziByAnyOtherName: Considering how the Deus.Ex.Machina Industries has several fascist parallels with Nazi Germany, Westcott is a stand-in for Adolf Hitler. However, as a businessman version.
* {{Nerf}}: [[spoiler:Despite stealing most of Nia's Crystal, Nia can still use her incomplete Angel to sabotage Beelzebub's information network and future describing.]]
* NervesOfSteel: A villainous example. Westcott is not bothered by things that would make a grown man cower in fear.
* NighInvulnerable: [[spoiler:As the Second Spirit of Origin, he can NoSell anything the sealed Spirits throw at him. His defenses don’t hold up so well after they and Shidō get empowered by Mio.]]
* NightmareFetishist: Apart from his love attitude to war, combat and violence, he compliments Inverse Tohka extravagantly despite the fact the Inverse Spirit could destroy the world and mankind itself.
* NonActionBigBad: He's not exactly a fighter, so he leaves the dirty work to [[TheDragon Ellen]] and other DEM Wizards. This trope is finally averted by Volume 13, where [[spoiler:he becomes an Inverse Spirit]]. See SuperpowerLottery below.
* NoHistoricalFiguresWereHarmed: Though Westcott was initially conceived as the counterpart of mankind's light side, he is also based on quite a few historical figures, his names as an example. Westcott's last name is based in [[http://www.golden-dawn.org/biowestcott.html William Wynn Westcott]], which is a very contraversial considering William was never shown to be a ruthless historical figure. It's also heavily implied that he was based in UsefulNotes/AdolfHitler as his views of humans are very similar to his xenophobic views of Jews.
* NonAnswer: He's a ''master'' of this, which is arguably the key to his success. Rarely does Westcott explicitly promise anyone anything, allowing his victims to assume he has through skilful deflection and silence. By the time they realize this, it's too late to do anything.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: In Volume 7, he states he is not a [[HarmlessVillain fighter like Ellen]]. When the Spirits met him again during his assault to Fraxinus, they thought he still harmless like he was back then but when he displays his new powers... Things did not go well.
* NotSoWellIntentionedExtremist: He claims that he wants to purge the world of mankind for being a cruel and failed race to create a world where mages will rule in peace without wars, conflicts and fights with humans. Curiously, over the series, Westcott showed to be even more sinister and cruel by unleashing all kind of disgusting and brutal crimes that humans can evoke upon the world. Not to mention that Westcott is willing to use even the members of his own race as pawns just like he do to humans, manipulating and discarding them like garbage just like he always did. He also seems to be more focused in [[GodhoodSeeker becoming an Inverse Spirit to give him powers of a God]] to rule the world and change the concept of life and creation according to his own image, thus ruling over reality like its new God.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: If Westcott is showing a facial expression that isn't a DissonantSerenity, then that means you are in '''HUGE''' trouble.
* ObviouslyEvil: [[CorruptCorporateExecutive Corrupt]], [[BadBoss uncaring]], has a pale white skin, [[WeHaveReserves treats his subordinates as disposable pawns]], as well has a [[AGodAmI godhood delusional]]. Compared with other antagonists like [[WellIntentionedExtremist Kurumi]] or [[KnightTemplar AST]], so far he's the one and only antagonist who have such selfish and greedy, as well diabolical motives.
* OffWithHisHead: This has happened so often that it seems that it is one of his favorite fetishes in killing people.
** The first time occurred when Westcott orders Ellen decapitate Shido when Ellen stabbed Shido in his heart.
** The second time occurred when Westcott ordered Ellen to bring the head of the Demon King (referring to Inverse Tohka).
** And the third time occurred in the spin-off ''Date A Strike'', when he ordered Ellen cut off the head of [[BigBad Edgar F. Carroll]] for treason.
* OhCrap: He is only surprised once in the entire series. This happened when he met Shido for the first time with his own eyes. He was so surprised that he finally removed his famous [[DissonantSerenity faint grin and calm expression fade]]. Another time he is surprised is when [[spoiler:Shido stuck him down with Ougi Roaring Flash Wave, something Beelzebub couldn't predict]].
* OlderThanTheyLook: He's described as being around 30 years old, but Origami notes that he gives off the impression of an experienced veteran. Mr. Woodman also states that he left the DEM ''30 years ago'' due to a fallout with Westcott.
* OmnicidalManiac: Played with, he claims to plunge the whole world into a endless state of chaos, death and destruction but this is not the only thing that he really wants. His goal in itself is to turn the whole world into a "hell" to wipe out all humans of the world and later rebuilt the world in a "utopia" where his race will rule and live without wars and conflicts according to his own vision.
* TheOneGuy: [[spoiler:Absorbing Nia's Qlipha Crystal makes him the sole male Spirit (Shido is technically still human despite his ability to seal and use Reiryoku).]]
* OneHitKill: [[spoiler:The Demon King, Athiel, is in a form of a demonic flower that emits dark particles which can cause immediate death to anyone touching them]].
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: To Elliot, whom considers his archenemy.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: Since [[NonActionBigBad he's not a fighter]], he send his Wizards to seek and capture the Spirits identified by the AST, while he sits around at the DEM headquarters. He is no longer this by volume 13, thanks to [[spoiler:Beelzebub]].
* OrderVersusChaos: This is one of the main aspects that defines the Westcott as the EvilCounterpart of Elliot. While Elliot is someone who tries to [[TechnicalPacifist bring peace and order]] without [[PetTheDog causing harm to innocent people]], Westcott is someone who tries [[KickTheDog bring about the end of humanity through chaos and destruction]].
* PeoplePuppets: He uses Realiezers to brainwash his ''own officers'' into becoming mindless soldiers for fun.
* PragmaticVillainy: [[spoiler:He put Nia through years of ColdBloodedTorture in attempt to make her Inverse, but eventually implanted a Realizer in her head to suppress her memories of it when it became clear that she would sooner go comatose. He waits until she’s started to open her heart to Shido before unleashing the memories, finally succeeding in causing an Inversion.]]
* {{Pride}}: Isaac has overconfidence is his military and troops and holds a great pride for his status as the director of DEM Industries. His pride increases even more when he first got the Beelzebub Demon King for himself.
* PerpetualSmiler: He is practically smiling 24/7. He only breaks out of this once. [[spoiler:Also broke out of this in Volume 18 when Shido stuck him down with Ougi Roaring Flash Wave, something Beelzebub couldn't predict]].
* PhysicalGod: [[spoiler:As the Second Spirit of Origin]] in Volume 19.
* PsychopathicManchild: Despite being the managing director of DEM, he's quite childish and egotistical.
* PsychoticSmirk: His default expression.
* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: Westcott is willing to use all kinds of brutal sexual tortures against humans and Spirits alike if gain something from it, [[KnightOfCerebus much to the public's shock as the series were once a light-hearted story of comedy]]. But this is the reason why the franchise got [[GrowingTheBeard even more popular over the years in both East and West]].
* RealityWarper: He aims to rewrite the laws of reality with the power of the Spirits' Inverse forms. [[spoiler:Which he finally gets to do so by stealing Mio's power in order to become the Second Spirit of Origin]].
* RedBaron: [[spoiler:His Demon King, Beelzebub, is described as "Tome of Divine Corruption", and when he becomes the Second Spirit of Origin, his three Demon Kings: Athiel, Belial, and Qemetiel are described as "Veils of Reverse Negative Existence".]]
* TheRival: To Elliot Woodman for more than 30 years.
* RasputinianDeath: [[spoiler: After multiple clashes with the heroes throughout different timelines, he has his Sephira crystal ripped out and ends up with one of his gambits literally exploding in his face, reducing him to nothing but a torso and head, and he still manages to have a final conversation before he dies from his wounds.]]
* RunningBothSides:
** During the Battle of Tenguu that involved hundreds of Wizards and Bandersnatchs who fought against countless clones Kurumi; he [[ManipulativeBastard manipulated both sides in order to make Shido rescue Tohka.]]
** He manipulated the Ratatoskr and all Spirits to prevent Tenguu City destruction by the satellites sent by the [[TheConspiracy director of DEM]] and also used the [[EvilPlan Murdoch's plan]] to test the Origami forces.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:S-Y]]
* {{Sadist}}: He clearly enjoys his killings and ColdBloodedTorture. He also known for being a masochist, although in non-sexual way; he's not only enjoy inflicting pains towards his victims, but also enjoys some kind of retaliation from his enemies.
* SatanicArchetype: Not played as some kind of Devil or Demon but he is this one to pratically all heroes of the franchise. Westcott is the BigBad to all stories of the series and has many Satanic traits that almost represents the evil side of mankind. He's a ConsummateLiar and WickedCultured Man who deceives numerous genuinely good people into following him in a scheme that ultimately ends with him gaining power to usher in a "utopia" where humans will be enslaved and exterminated. Not to mention that he aims to get the power of the Inverse Spirits to himself, also known as Demon Kings, whom represents the evil or impure Spiritual forces in [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qliphoth Qliphoth tree]] from Jewish mysticism and is the evil counterpart of UsefulNotes/{{Kabbalah}}, the tree of life.
* SayMyName: Westcott has a very bizarre moment of this one in Volume 8, when he possesed James' body and shouted Elliot's surname like a robot.
-->'''Isaac Westcott''': A-a-aaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAaaaaa-Woooooooodddddd--Ma-Mamamann. Yaa, Long time no see, Elliot.
* ScarsAreForever: Despite the results of his battle against Elliot are not shown, the light novel explains that Westcott lost one of his arms during the battle and had scars all over his lost limbs.
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: He tends to use his position as DEM [[CorruptCorporateExecutive director]] to scare off anyone who is interrupting him in any of his [[EvilPlan evil plans]]. And because of that, Westcott is a person of very few words, and he hates to repeat the same thing twice.
* ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem: Even a [[MegaCorp corrupt corporation]] like Deus.Ex.Machina Industries has its own rules. Knowing that Westcott is the [[CorruptCorporateExecutive maximum authority]] in the DEM, he should respect the rules that the company has created since its foundation. But as expected, Westcott is not a [[TheSociopath person who is under the influence of any rule]]. He decide what to do with his company, with his employees, with his army and his resources.
* ShadowArchetype: Serves as one for Elliot Woodman, who has a different concept of life due to disagreements in philosophies. While Elliot planned to create a world for the mages without causing deaths, Westcott claimed the human world belongs to the mages and wish to destroy everyone living it to create their world.
* SharpDressedMan: Wears a jet-black suit with a white tie in all appearances.
* TheSociopath:
** Completely uncaring towards the rest of DEM, he uses underhanded means for assessing how far he is from achieving his own goal, which amounts to the creation of HellOnEarth. He shows less care with humanity and only cares about becoming a godlike being.
** Subverted in later volumes wherein [[spoiler:he most likely understands the consequences of his actions and the exact level of suffering his plans will inflict (in his enemies and even in himself) but this only encourages him by filling his with pain over his own monstrous acts that took the lives of a lot of people]].
* SoftSpokenSadist: Unlike all other villains like Kurumi Tokisaki who is a [[CuteAndPsycho homicidal maniac]] who has no composure when her crazy-side breaks out and Minerva Liddell who is a [[PsychoForHire insane psychotic soldier]] who loses her cool when she is torturing someone, Westcott is fully capable of causing pain in other people with losing his clarity and calm.
* SlasherSmile: This has happened once so far, when he finally takes his first step toward "his dream". [[spoiler:It is never shown in the illustrations from the novels, but his teeth get nearly fang-like when he saw the Inverse Sephira Crystal of Nia for the very first time.]] This gives him such an intimidating aura which causes Shido to think to consider him not just [[BlueAndOrangeMorality evil but inhuman]].
* StrawNihilist: Claims he's not worth anybody's life or even his own.
* StrikeMeDownWithAllOfYourHatred: [[spoiler:He's disappointed that Shido refuses to finish him off after defeating him in Volume 18, despite the obvious hatred he holds toward the assailant of his previous incarnation Shinji, among other things. Shido admits that part of him does want to kill Westcott, but [[IfYouKillHimYouWillBeJustHim he refuses to stoop to Westcott's level]] and [[CruelMercy would rather have him live to face the consequences of his actions]].]]
* StoryBreakerPower:
** Subverted. After he gains [[spoiler:Nia's Demon King, it appears that he has gained all of her Angel powers -omniscience and future control included- but due to the fact that he didn't take all of Nia's Crystal, Rasiel's continued existence has created a paradox that prevents both Nia and Westcott from fully utilizing their abilities against each other.]] However, he is still a formidable threat [[spoiler:on par with that of an Inverse Spirit]].
** Played straight when he gains [[spoiler:Mio's powers which gives him access to three Demon Kings which makes him godlike]].
* SuperpowerLottery:
** After he [[spoiler:inserts Nia's Qlipha Crystal into his own body in Volume 13]] he finally resigns from his NonActionBigBad status, with [[spoiler:omniscience, ability to bend the future to his will, create minions to do his bidding, and trap people in the world of fantasy.]] Although the first two is somewhat restricted due to [[spoiler:Nia and Rasiel's survival.]]
** Even more when he [[spoiler:stole Mio's powers in order to become the Spirit of Origin in Volume 19]]. With [[spoiler:three Demon Kings at his disposal]], he has godlike abilities which includes [[spoiler:emitting dark particles that can kill anyone touching them, manipulating the laws of reality, and erasing someone from existence]].
* TakeOverTheWorld: Westcott's desire is to [[TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt rewrite the human reality]] into a world of his own visions... At first his friends thought they were going to CREATE a new world in another dimension but Isaac went [[EvenEvilHasStandards much worse than they ever planned]].
* TakingYouWithMe: He has no desire to have the humanity outlive him. If he can't have the world he wished for so long, he will destroy it. After Shido managed to punch him in the face, destabilizing the power of the Spirit of Origin, he immediately claims that he will at least take all Spirits and humans of the world with him in an explosion of mana. [[spoiler: Unfortunately for him, he only managed to take Mio with him.]]
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: He dispatched his entire armada of tens thousands of Wizards and droids to Tenguu City only to kill Shido Itsuka. He even ordered his forces to shoot down all civilians of the town in sight just to make Shido leave from his hiding place.
-->'''Kurumi''': As the world’s top manufacturer of the realizer manifestation device, the organization possess the strength of the world’s strongest Wizards, the intelligence capabilities of the all-knowing Demon King, tens of thousands of automatic dolls, and countless Pseudo-Spirits. It’s the same thing as saying that they are trying to pour all of that for the sake of killing── a single person.
* TheyJustDontGetIt: Towards Ratatoskr. He claims all his enemies who are trying to stop his plan are greenhorns who do not know what they are doing and of course, they don't get he is fighting for the "greater good". Right.
%%* ThisIsYourBrainOnEvil: [[CardCarryingVillain Laughs at the destruction and death of 150 million people]] in front of your friends? [[HeelFaceTurn See ya]]! - Explain?
* TomTheDarkLord: One of the most twisted people alive on the world, and his name is ''Isaac Ray Peram Westcott''. Not to mention his original name, ''Ike''.
* TookALevelInBadass: Starts off as a NonActionBigBad, then in Volume 13 he gains Nia's Demon King, Beelzebub. Finally, in Volume 19, [[spoiler:he becomes the [[PhysicalGod Second Spirit of Origin]] by stealing Mio's powers which allows him to use Athiel, Belial, and Qemetiel, the three Demon Kings at his disposal]].
* TortureTechnician: Westcott is the most cruel {{Sadist}} of the series and knows many forms of torture. In just 1 minute during his meeting with Tohka, he considered all forms of physical, psychological and [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil sexual]] that only the most insane and twisted people could think of. If in just a few seconds he mentioned a long list of brutal tortures, imagine what he did to Nia who was under DEM captive for 5 years!
-->'''Isaac Westcott:''' --I say, Ellen. Maybe it would be faster if we increased the physical torture on her? Let’s start off with electrocution. And then decrease the oxygen concentration in the room, and observe her reaction. Maybe we can also try changing the air pressure. If those fail, then let’s chip her nails away, and her fingers… ah, right, maybe we can chip her teeth too. The pain felt by the nervous system will be unbearable by then. A Spirit’s body is much more resilient than a human… try feeding her poison. Ah, in that case, we should also give her tranquilizers. And then, yes, you're a virgin? How do you feel about your own chastity? The pain you will feel when we completely destroy whatever "dignity you have as a woman". In the long time you’ve spent in this world, have you had any friends or lovers? If we were to kill a loved one in front of you, how would you feel?
* TotalitarianUtilitarian: Westcott's goal is to [[UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans abolish war and conflicts by destroying all humans and creating a world for mages only]]. To achieve this, he commits numerous acts of war, [[ChaosIsEvil unleash total chaos upon the world]] by summoning the First Spirit, summons the Spirits and turn the whole world against them, use their power to achieve godhood by torturing and raping them, [[WouldHurtAChild kidnaps children and forces painful humans experiments]] in their bodies to turn them in his dispensable [[ChildSoldiers child soldiers]], MindRape thousands of people in his company to act like psychotic mercenaries, uses ColdBloodedTorture in everyone who tries to oppose him, creates the superstition that Spirits are scapegoats and pawns to fight the Wizards in the war he started and finally reward himself with immortality of the Inverse Spirits to [[RewritingReality rewrite the reality in his own image]]. Yeah.
* TragicVillain: Ultimately a subversion. Despite his tragic background that [[DrivenToVillainy pushed him to villainy]], he used the massacre of his own village as a motive to kill all humans once he noticed, no matter what mages do to create peace between the two races, humans will always betray their vows.
* TransformationSequence: Utterly [[DefiedTrope defied]]. [[spoiler:Even after becoming a Spirit, Westcott never shows off any equivalent to an Astral Dress. His usual suit is more than enough for him.]]
* TreacherousAdvisor: He was acting as a kindly and cheerful figure for Origami Tobiichi, listening to what she had to say, encouraging her will to fight the Spirits, and offering her full support. However, his true motives were to turn her against Shido Itsuka to let her capture a Spirit for him.
* TrulySingleParent:
** [[spoiler:Isaac created Marina Arusu, in computers and data]], and as such while she can be considered his "daughter", there is no blood relation between them. However, she considers him the [[TheOnlyOneITrust only person]] she sees and loves as relative and [[AbusiveParents parent]].
** [[spoiler:Westcott does it once again with his newfound powers as an Inverse Spirit in Volume 16. His ability, "Demon King's Daughter - Nibellecole" allows him to spawn powerful creatures from Beelzebub. They look, act, and talk like Marina, complete with loyalty to him. Whether he will treat them any differently from the [[AbusiveParent way he did with Marina]] in Ars Install is yet to be seen.]]
* TheUnfettered: Nothing matters to him as long as he reaches his goal; innocent lives, his subordinates, and even his own organization, all of these are expendable.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: For ''Date AST Like''. In the main story (and the rest of the franchise) he is a very witting one.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Westcott was once, like all normal humans, [[AmbiguousInnocence a sweet and nice kid]] who loved to hang out with his childhood friends in his village. At one moment of his backstory, he even felt sorry for Ellen for being a failure in using sorcery and vowed to help her in her training while fondling her head. Then his village was burned down, and he turned into the .
* VeryLooselyBasedOnATrueStory: His last name "Westcott" come likely comes from [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Wynn_Westcott William Wynn Westcott]], one of the three founders of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn which was one of the orders of the Hermetic Qabalah.
* VileVillainSaccharineShow: One of the most ruthless villains in a generally romcom story.
* VillainExitStageLeft: Once Inverse Tohka overpowers Ellen Mathers at the end of Volume 7 (episode 10 of 2nd season), Westcott and Ellen retreats DEM branch to fight another day.
* VillainousDemotivator: His minions know they have two options: ''Victory or termination''. Several have mentioned being told they couldn't come back unless they were successful.
* VillainRespect: In just a moment in the entire series, he praised Elliot and his organization.
* VillainTakesAnInterest: Takes many of them over the course of the story but is the most important example is when he takes interest in [[{{Deuteragonist}} Origami Tobiichi]] when he discovered she is a powerful Wizard able to control his deadliest failure he sent to Japan to assist the Japanese Anti Spirit-Team. Naturally, the [[PoweredArmor White Licorice]], the DEM CR-Unit created to heavy warfares, was a failure from the start as it took the lives of dozens of DEM Wizards in many tests. However, Westcott did not care if it was a failure and still sold this to Japan Ground Self Defense Forces. When the news that a Wizard managed to control it for several minutes, who turned out to be Origami who tried to kill [[LittleSisterHeroine Kotori Itsuka]] in Volume 4 for thinking she was the Spirit who killed her parents, he immediately took interest in the girl as he was in need of new Adeptus to his cause.
* VillainsNeverLie: He is an ''incredible'' liar and uses it to [[ManipulativeBastard manipulate his victims]]. But when Tohka asked what was his aim at the time he captured her, he was so straight with his answer that he scared Tohka.
-->'''Tohka''': Are the one behind this?! What it is your aim?! What do you want from me?!
-->'''Westcott''': My aim....hm.....Ah! Yes. That would actually be very simple. I want your powers as Spirit to turn the ways of the world upside down....In order to topple the restraints of this world.
* VillainsOutShopping: Amazingly, PlayedForLaughs! In the side story of Encore 2, Ellen's Greatest Day, Westcott actually gives Ellen a day-off of her job as secretery since he wanted her to be in her best mood in case if the Spirits appear again. Later, Westcott is seen alone in his office reading documents while thinking he should have went together with Ellen.
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: As Kouchi Tachibana states this.
-->'''Volume 7''': Yes. Isaac Westcott, DEM industries management board director. If anyone watched TV, read newspaper and net news, it was probably a name they had heard of at least once.
* WarForFunAndProfit: Remove the "Profit" and this will make more sense to Westcott. He has no [[TheSociopath reason, objectives]] or even [[ForTheEvulz logic]] that something can justify [[HateSink what he does]]. War is not an exception in his agenda; he transformed the center of Tenguu City on a battlefield. Everything is in his range will [[CardCarryingVillain become a toy]] for [[ToCreateAPlaygroundForEvil his own amusement]].
* WeCanRuleTogether: Offers this to Elliot.
* WeHaveReserves: The DEM Wizards that are completely loyal to him are little more than moving pieces for his interests [=/=] goals, although he's said to gauge them according to their value as well.
* WhenTreesAttack: [[spoiler:The Demon King, Belial, is in a form of a demonic tree which gives him the power of reality warping]].
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: One of the few people to sport white hair in the story, and a clear-cut villain at that.
* WickedCultured: He mostly acts like a gentleman, but nonetheless, he's just an sadistic sociopath.
* WouldBeRudeToSayGenocide: He constantly uses the word "rewrite" as the pretense for "cataclysm".
* WouldHitAGirl: He's determined to make the Spirits Inverse, and he'll use ''any means'' to make them cross the DespairEventHorizon. While he had Tohka captive, he casually rattles off several different ways to drive her off the deep end, including electrocution, asphyxiation and rape, before settling on killing Shido in front of her.
* WouldHurtAChild: As if those among the victims in the Spacequakes weren't enough, he coldly brainwashed Mana Takamiya and made her lose all memories of her past. He even shortened her lifetime to about 10 years. Not to mention he is perfectly fine in inflicting painful human experiments in children to turn them into his personal (and disposable) psychotic soldiers.
* {{Yandere}}: [[spoiler:Like Elliott, Westcott seems to have an interest with Mio Takamiya, but in his own way.]]
* YoureCuteWhenYoureAngry: PlayedForLaughs. Everytime Westcott see Ellen angry at something, he teases her to leave her even more angry and even says she is cute when she is angry.
* YouHaveFailedMe: Isaac keeps his army in line with fear of this. James A. Paddington mentioned this when he said that if the DEM officials fail in their missions, [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness they paid with a higher price]] for their failure. And unfortunately for James, he paid for it when Isaac executed him after he used James as an instrument to communicate with Elliot.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: He has virtually everyone who ever helped him with his EvilPlan killed at some point when he decides he doesn't need them anymore, almost including Mana.
