A list of characters for Sato Kentaro's manga, ''Manga/MagicalGirlApocalypse''. '''All spoilers up until the Future Arc (chapter 32-) are unmarked.'''
----
[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:"Present Day" Party]]

Characters first introduced in the "present day" timeline (2012).

!!Kogami Kii
A dissatisfied schoolboy.
\
His future counterpart is an elementary school teacher who is dating Kaede.
----
* ChildhoodFriends: He's this with Tsukune [[spoiler: and Sayano. In fact, Kii gave Sayano her hair clip, and she's worn it ever since]].
* HeroicSacrifice: In the end, [[spoiler: he sacrifices his existence to restore the universe.]]

!!Fukumoto Tsukune
Kii's childhood friend in their elementary school days before they became estranged at a later point.
\
Her future counterpart is a preschool teacher who have found out about a dark ritual that would involve her children. As the result, she tore out a part of the book instructing the ritual and ghosted Kii to prevent her child from being born.
----
* BitchInSheepsClothing: An early reveal makes her out to be this, as Sayano reveals that Tsukune forced her and Miki to bully her to get Kogami’s sympathy, out of fear of Tsukune killing their parents. There's also the fact that the young Tsukune's "treasure chest" contains drawings and keychains matching the Magical Girls, unnerving Kii.
** Eventually, this is revealed to be a SubvertedTrope. [[spoiler:All of Tsukune's malicious acts were done by her induced SplitPersonality, Asuka. When the parasite causing "Asuka" is removed, Tsukune becomes just as sweet as she initially appeared.]]
* TheLoad: Tsukune’s influence on the plot is inversely proportionate to her ability to protect herself: she's introduced as a crybaby who needs Kogami's protection, and doesn't develop much further than that. [[spoiler:Even when her heritage is revealed as a Magical Girl, the importance is placed not on her powers, but on that of her and Kogami's hypothetical child.]]
* SomeoneToRememberHimBy: [[spoiler: Kii may be gone, but he did leave Tsukune a child.]]

!!Sayano Kaede
One of the two schoolgirls bullying Tsukune.
\
In the future, she works as a scientist in Wahre Libre.
----
* TheBully: She and Miki are first seen standing menacingly over Tsukune, and its mentioned that they do this often. [[spoiler:In reality, Tsukune has been forcing them to do that whenever Kii is around to try and win his sympathy.]]
* HeroicSacrifice: She attempts this in Volume 3 after running from the rescue chopper to get her hair clip [[spoiler:which Kii gave her back when they were kids]]. She decides to just let an approaching horde of zombies have her to buy everyone else time to board the chopper and escape... only for the horde to suddenly disappear.

!!Akuta Rintaro
A police officer first encounter when Kii's group took shelter in a shopping mall.
----
* ArtEvolution: Becomes more conventionally attractive as the manga continues.
* {{Ephebophile}}: He really, ''really'' likes high school girls, to the point that he rejects [[spoiler: the grown-up Miu]] for being an old hag of 28, even though she's almost as curvy as Yoruka. [[spoiler: Though he still marries her in the epilogue.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: You'd never suspect from his initial appearance that he'd turn out to be a good guy.
* LovableSexManiac: Initially played without an iota of "lovable": he's introduced with pants about his waist and grabbing his crotch next to two naked unconscious women, and shoots at Miki when she tries to intervene.
* TheNicknamer: "Miss Funbags" for Yoruka, "Trash Girl" for Kaede, "Chicken Legs" for Tsukune, "Old Hag" for [[spoiler: adult Miu]] and "[[MemeticMutation Titty Monster]]" for the Witch. He himself is often referred to as "Rent-A-Cop" "Rapey Cop" and "Kappa."
* OneLastSmoke: Well, more like [[spoiler: one last fap.]]

!!Hanzawa Yoruka

* BuxomBeautyStandard: She has very large breasts, much to Akuta's delight.
* OutOfFocus: Doesn't appear very often in the second half of the story.
* MsFanservice: Buxom, bouncy, often braless and occasionally topless.

!!Himeji Wataru

* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: He's killed in the third volume by the scuttling Magical Girl in this manner.

!!Kushiro Ren

A {{Ronin}} who flunked the Todai entrance exam and is now questioning his life's goals.

* KilledOffForReal: In both present-day timelines. In the first, he makes it almost to the end; in the second, he has his leg ripped off by a Magical Girl [[WeHardlyKnewYe shortly after (re-)introduction]].
* ShipTease: Rather blatantly with Yoruka. As the above trope shows, it tends to end badly...[[spoiler:until the epilogue where they get married.]]

!!Anai Miu

In the second timeline, she gets shot into the past by a powered-up Chronos M and lands in the year 1992. Orphaned as a result, she is raised by ____ and turns into a Magical Girl-killing machine. Tropes applying to Miu in this timeline are:

* {{Samurai}}: Fashions herself as such, complete with a katana designed to kill Magical Girls.
* StalkerWithACrush: Somehow thinks of Akuta as her "god:" it's PlayedForLaughs, as Akuta doesn't reciprocate.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:"Future" Party]]

Characters first introduced in the "future" timeline (2030).

!!Shirogane Shinobu

* SuperpoweredEvilSide

!!Hanakai Mikano ([[spoiler:Muroku Mikano]])

!!Shirogane Sou

!!Muroku Eris

A Magical Girl, and [[spoiler:Mikano's birth mother]].

!!Tonogaya Yuuji

!!Abeno Maria

* DeadMansSwitch: [[spoiler:Her Magical Girl core - the one transferred into Himeji - was subconsciously repressing the Demon's blood in Shinobu. When Kogami kills Himeji and destroys Maria's core, the Demon fully awakens with Shinobu as a host.]]

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Magical Girls and Allies]]

Tropes the [[spoiler:Alternative]] Magical Girls have in common are:

* ArtificialHuman: They are created from splicing the DNA of [[spoiler:Tsukune and Kii]].
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: They are each drawn in a style way different from the human characters to reflect their otherworldliness.
* OneWordVocabulary: The first batch of them can only say "Magical" in various tones. The same can be said for the second batch until they gained intelligence upon their upgrade.
* OurZombiesAreDifferent: Anyone who touches a Magical Girl's wand and is later killed will resurrect into a magical girl-shaped zombie.
* WeaksauceWeakness: Their wands are the source of their power: without them, they can't use magic, and if they're damaged, the Magical Girl will crumble into dust. [[LightningBruiser Good luck trying to take it, though.]]

!!Explode M ("Rib")
The first Magical Girl Kii encountered, appearing right in his classroom blowing the whole room to bits.
\
When Yuuji created the second batch of [[spoiler:Alternative]] Magical Girls, Explode M is tasked to guard Kii.
----
* HavingABlast: Anything that touches her wand explodes. After being enhanced by Living Dead M, she only has to point her wand at her target.
* YourHeadASplode: What she does to a teacher at Kii's school when she touches their head with her staff.

!!Attraction M and Repulsion M ("Lolo" and "Coco")
A pair of Magical Girls who look like counterparts of each other. Attraction M can bind a group of people into one one spot, while Repulsion M can repel them away at high speed.
\
When Yuuji created the second batch of [[spoiler:Alternative]] Magical Girls, the pair are tasked to guard Kaede. Upon gaining intelligence, Lolo considers Coco to be her older sister.
----

!!Parasite M ("Hana-chan")
While Kii's group is hiding in a mall, Parasite M, possessing Miu, reveals herself to the group.
----
* ElmuhFuddSyndwome: She talks wike dis in da Seven Seas twanswation, although she quits when things get sewious and eventuawwy stops altogether.
* ItCanThink: The only [[spoiler:first batch of Alternative]] Magical Girl who can talk and communicate with humans proper. She can do so while possessing a human body.
* PuppeteerParasite: The people she controls have their physical strength enhanced dramatically. Since she takes control of the brain to do so, this Magical Girl is able to speak and reason using the host's intelligence.

!!Kronos M

!!Living-Dead M
* {{Necromancer}}: Living-Dead M's main gimmick. She can revive previously vanquished [[spoiler:Alternative]] Magical Girls with the four staffs she carries.

!!Flame Dog M
* PlayingWithFire: Can launch fireballs so hot, they instantly incinerate those they hit.

!!Small-Large M
* {{Sizeshifter}}: Small-Large M is capable of changing her size at will. She uses this ability to grow large enough to destroy the mall the main characters were hiding in and one-shot the Self-Defense Force's arsenal of helicopters. She also uses her shrinking ability to evade some missiles fired at her before growing once again to finish the job.

!!Other Magical Girls
(placeholder)

The following two characters aren't [[spoiler:Alternative]] Magical Girls, but are closely aligned with them in all timelines present.

!!The Man in Black

A man with long pale hair, a flowing black cloak, and a mask concealing his face. For more information about this character's identity, see the entry for [[spoiler:Sayano Kaede]].

!!The White-Haired Child

A young kid of ambiguous gender in a penguin costume, seen accompanying The Man in Black. For more information about this character's identity, see the entry for [[spoiler:Himeji Wataru (Female)]].

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Other Antagonists (UNMARKED SPOILERS)]]

!!Himeji Wataru

* AlwaysABiggerFish: In the parallel timeline, the ritual is starting, Himeji is excited that his plan is coming to fruition... and he gets knocked out by a shadowy figure.
* ArtificialHuman: Was created by Makabe to serve his plan.
* BecomeARealBoy: For all his talk of wanting to become god, all Himeji really wants is to become a real human being so he can die to escape all the horror Makabe put him through.
* BigBadWannabe: Seemingly taking the reins at main antagonist after offing Makabe, Himeji is the apparent villain of the work until the very end when Makabe reveals himself very much still active and takes out Himeji to continue his plans.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Masquerading as a friendly, harmless deaf student, Himeji is actually the mastermind of the magical girl apocalypse, as part of his plan to become god.
* TheChessmaster: In his initial arc, Himeji is able to play the rest of the cast near seamlessly, with none suspecting he's the mastermind of the apocalypse.
* ComplexityAddiction: Himeji's bid to become god involves causing an apocalypse to make a specific girl fall for misattribution of arousal in her fear and have sex and bear a child for him to use in his ritual to become god. Even his servant points out how absurdly convoluted this is idea is.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: Compares the idea of love to a full toilet, indicating his hatred of tender feelings.
* TheHeavy: After seemingly killing off Keito Makabe, Himeji takes over the latter's plan to become God, directly confronting the heroes until the end, when Makabe is revealed to have survived and take out Himeji to resume his plan.
* ManipulativeBastard: Himeji acts the part of friend to the heroes to throw suspicion off himself in the apocalypse and to drive them into danger to complete his plans.
* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: As if kidnapping young magical girls from their families (and murdering said families) wasn't enough to indicate he is a bad guy, Himeji tops it off by sexually assaulting a teenaged magical girl after rendering her unconscious.
* SmugSnake: As time goes on, it becomes increasingly clear Himeji is nowhere near as in control of events as he likes to think he is and much of his final confrontation with the heroes consists of him running and cursing as he's beaten.

!!Himeji Wataru (Female)

!!Puppet Master
A seemingly intelligent Artificial Magical Girl.
----
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Puppet Master, [[spoiler:a human of the Magical Girl bloodline that was captured and augmented using the techniques to make Alternative Magical Girls,]] had her memories and personality altered to serve the bad guys. Now essentially an anti-Magical Girl Magical Girl, she is [[TheDragon The Dragon]] to the main villain.

!!Makabe Keito / Rei Kurorogi

* BigBad: It's all ultimately Makabe's plans to become god that drive the conflict of the series.
* BodySurf: Kurorogi has been keeping himself alive this way for centuries, and the death of his host bodies is no problem. [[spoiler: It takes rewriting him out of the universe to finally destroy him.]]
* GodhoodSeeker: Makabe intends to incite a ritual that will give him godlike powers so he can rule the multiverse.
* GiantSpaceFleaFromNowhere: Who's the true BigBad of the series? Himeji? No, he's just a pawn. Makabe? No, he's just the latest in a long line of host bodies. The BigBad is...a centuries-old body-surfing wizard who's only introduced in the last two volumes.
* GreaterScopeVillain: During the first arc, Makabe is inactive but it was his abuse of Himeji that drives him to cause the apocalyptic event the heroes have to face.
* IAmLegion: Once Kurorogi creates his "perfect" world he can see through the eyes of everyone on it, forcing the heroes to hide deep in the wilderness. Unfortunately a hiker happens along...
* ImpersonationExclusiveCharacter: All Makabe's actions as the twist villain turns out to be Kurorogi's; Kurorogi uses Makabe's body in anticipation to Himeji's betrayal.
* MadScientist: Kidnaps and mutilates several women while trying to find one with a power he needs for his nefarious schemes.
* TheManBehindTheMan: Of the series overall. While Makabe is relatively inactive (and believed dead) for a good chunk of the manga, he's the one pulling the strings behind Himeji and the final villain to be beaten. Kurorogi turns out to be this for Makabe, as Makabe is simply one of his many identities.
* OmnicidalManiac: Angered that the heroes continue defying him after he's reached godhood, Makabe violently destroys the multiverse.
* UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans: Wipes out every single universe to create one "perfect" one.

!!Asuka
A personality injected into past Tsukune, setting up misfortune in front of Kii to force a bond between him and Tsukune.

!!Muroku Rail

Mikano's birth father, and a powerful exorcist.
----
* StrawNihilist: He wants nothing more than the [[ApocalypseHow/ClassZ destruction of all space and time]]. Rail delights in telling Tsukune that the protagonists face an impossible choice: they either let the Demon be reborn in Shinobu's body in the future, who will destroy the universe; or revive Himeji to stabilize Maria's core, but allow Himeji to complete the Ritual of Time in the parallel timeline, which will not bear well for the multiverse. Either way, he's happy to not get involved and to let it all play out.
