* AnthropomorphicPersonification: Tomoe and Shizuka both represent different classes of naginata-- Shizuka for all naginata made for men's usage, and Tomoe for women.
* {{Knockback}}: A hit from a naginata ''always'' pushes the entire team back, whether it's a CriticalHit or not.
* WeaksauceWeakness: Players that employ naginata should watch out whether their [=PvP=] opponent's team contains kiwame wakizashi, as their blocking can and will render naginata's team-wide hits useless.

-> '''Rarity''': High (Basic/Toku), Special (Kiwame)\
'''School''': Sanjou (三条)\
'''Voiced by''': Eiji Miyashita (Japanese), Creator/IanFerguson (English)\
'''Illustrated by''': Kinako\
'''Live actor''': Daichi Saeki (Musical)
-> ''"Ooh. I didn't notice you since you're too small. I'm Iwatooshi, Musashibou Benkei's naginata! Gahahahaha!"''
The naginata of the famous warrior monk [[UsefulNotes/MusashiboBenkei Musashibou Benkei]], who collected 999 swords before he was defeated by Minamoto no Yoshitsune and taken in as his retainer. Has an overwhelming huge size and a broad-minded personality. Nevertheless, he is of good upbringing and has a dignified taste in appearances. Because he likes small and smart/nimble things, he dotes on Imanotsurugi.
----
* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: Iwatooshi is a lot more mellow in the musical continuity, matching up with the reputation of his fellow Sanjou swords.
* AmbiguouslyRelated: In-game, to the other Sanjou swords, with the exception of Imanosurugi, as he no interactions with them and never mentions them in his dialogue. This is eventually justified when his Kiwame training reveals that he does not exist beyond legends, which means he would never have met them. This is averted in the adaptations, however, which treat the Sanjous as a close-knit group.
* BloodKnight: Iwatooshi cheerfully refers to battles as "hunts" and, like Mikazuki, he also laughs when seriously injured, claiming that [[CombatSadomasochist he's having fun]].
* BoisterousBruiser: Is [[LargeHam very loud and boastful in battlefield]] (many of his front line lines even include open laughter while he's fighting), and he manages to hit the whole enemy unit all of once, in normal circumstances.
--> "Hahahaha! Am I terrifying?!"
* ColorCodedCharacters: When grouped alongside the other Sanjou swords, his associated color is a purple.
* CommonalityConnection: He is shown to have a strong bond with Imanotsurugi in the adaptations due to his former master Benkei being a servant of Minamoto no Yoshitsune.
* CoolBigBro: According to his official profile, he adores/dotes on Imanotsurugi and the adaptations depict them as being extremely close, with Iwatooshi acting as a sort of big brother figure for Imanotsurugi.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Both his hair and eyes are orange.
* FieryRedhead: He has short orange hair and he has a very hotheaded personality.
%% * HairAntennae: He sports two that that stick out from under his hood.
* HiddenBuxom: A hilarious and rare male example. His regular clothes are modest as monk robes should be, but his Internal Affairs outfit as well as his Awakening sprite show that he has quite the ample chest. The musicals also reference this by having Iwatooshi's idol costume be a sleeveless hoodie that emphasizes his chest (the hoodie will always be partially unzipped around his pectorals).
* HiddenDepths: In a Recollection with Imanotsurugi, he gradually speaks more normally to show his sympathy for Imanotsurugi's grief. He also tells Hizamaru after sparring that's it's okay to be immature, as it means he has a heart.
* InTheHood: Of all the Touken Danshi, Iwatooshi is consistently drawn with a hood up, and it's constantly on in his default outfit. In the musicals, he even gets a performance outfit with a sleeveless hoodie to keep up the motif.
* LargeHam: He is loud, boisterous, and easy to rile up. This is noteworthy because it was possibly one of the first signs that he isn't a Sanjou sword, as every other Sanjou with a confirmed existence (at least in the "Touken Ranbu" universe) tends to be reserved.
* LaserGuidedKarma: He references this line of thought in his destroyed line, seemingly resigned to his fate, as he is famous for having hunted down 999 swords with his former owner.
--> "As the weapon that has hunted down so many blades, this is inevitably my fate, huh..."
* MagikarpPower: He starts off as rather weak when first obtained, but if one is patient, he can eventually become a OneManArmy.
* NaginatasAreFeminine: Averted. Iwatooshi is a very boisterous, very masculine character. Justified because he's from the Heian era, the height of the naginata's war time popularity among samurai and warrior monks (such as his owner) and long before the naginata became a "woman's weapon".
* NoIndoorVoice: Particularly in the battlefield, but even in the citadel, he speaks quite loudly. His resounding laugh is also present in a good number of his quotes. However, he notably lowers his voice in his Recollection with Imanotsurugi, as mentioned in HiddenDepths above, and also in his reflexive destroyed line.
* ScaryTeeth: Of the shark-like variety.
* SignatureScent: One of his lines suggests that, according to the Saniwa, [[BloodKnight he reeks of blood]].
* ThoseTwoGuys: With Imanotsurugi.
* TomatoInTheMirror: In the game's historical timeline, Iwatooshi was a fictional weapon and had never existed. His memories and existence are because of the legend behind him. He was vaguely aware of it and confirms his suspicions when he gets his Kiwame.
* WarriorMonk: In appearance only, as a homage to his owner, Musashibou Benkei. Personality-wise, he's more of a BloodKnight. In 2016's ''Shinken Ranbu Sai'', he does briefly show skill as a WarriorPoet.
!! Iwatooshi (''Musical'')
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_1391_0.jpeg]]

Iwatooshi as he appears in ''Theatre/MusicalToukenRanbu''. He debuted in the Trial Performance, which would go on to become the first play in the series ''Atsukashiyama Ibun''.
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: Both of the main installments he appears in are expansions of tidbits of his story from the browser game:
** ''Atsukashiyama Ibun'' is an expansion of his Recollection with Imanotsurugi titled "PART 8: The Story of Yoshitsune" in which Imanotsurugi asks Iwatooshi why he can't alter history to save his former master from his fate. In the browser game, Imanotsurugi reluctantly accepts that he can't and moves on, but in the play, Imanotsurugi goes to great lengths to try and save him, even betraying his fellow Touken Danshi, with Iwatooshi struggling to bring Imanotsurugi back to his side.
** ''Tsuwamono Domo'' connects the stories of Iwatooshi and Imanotsurugi discovering that they do not exist while Kiwame training, though the focus is more on Iwatooshi attempting to conceal the truth about their existences from Imanotsurugi, with Imanotsurugi remaining unaware for the majority of the play but gradually becoming suspicious because of his efforts.
* BigBrotherInstinct: He plays a familial role for Imanotsurugi a lot, trying to keep him out of danger or protecting him in dire situations. He also tried to avoid telling Imanotsurugi about their shaky existences for as long as possible because he didn't want to hurt the boy, and would get annoyed at other characters when he perceived them as trying to break the news to him.
* FormalCharactersUseKeigo: {{Downplayed|Trope}}; He speaks casually most of the time in the musical, but when he addresses the Sanjou (sans Imanotsurugi), he shifts to more formal language and archaic honorifics.
* LyingToProtectYourFeelings: Turns out he was aware all along that he was a fictional weapon, as is Imanotsurugi, but pretended that he didn't know to spare Imanotsurugi's feelings.
* SharedFamilyQuirks: While the Sanjou school swords don't appear to consider themselves siblings, they are known around the citadel for having similar eccentricities that revolve around being enigmatic, easygoing, and, as Tsurumaru puts it, impossible to surprise.
* WhatIsThisFeeling: As a new recruit at the time of ''Atsukashiyama Ibun'', Iwatooshi isn't quite used to having emotions yet, finding himself reacting to everything most haphazardly and putting his feelings in conflict with his duty to the Saniwa. He admits he found it easier to be an inanimate object, because he didn't have to deal with such complications.

[[folder:140, 141 – '''Tomoegata Naginata''' (巴形薙刀)]]
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tomoegata_1.png]]
[[caption-width-right:250:[[labelnote:Kiwame Form]][[quoteright:240:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tomoegata_kiwame1.png]][[/labelnote]]]]
-> '''Rarity''': High (Basic/Toku), Special (Kiwame)\
'''Voiced by''': Creator/HirofumiNojima\
'''Illustrated by''': Kinako\
'''Live actor''': Haruki Kiyama (Musical)
-> ''"I'm naginata Tomoegata. A collection of tomoe shapes without a story, wielding neither signature nor legend. That is who I am."''
He has a wide width and large warp of the cutting edge, a naginata that is said to be used for ceremonies. His divinity levels are high, as such he in lacking in the sense of humanity. He can be overprotective of his master at times. He is constantly by his master's side and likes to take care of them.
----
* AnthropomorphicPersonification: Of particular note in his case, because, rather than being a tsukumougami of a specific historical naginata, he is instead a personification of "tomoe" type naginata in general, which was a subtype designed for use by women. This is the reason for his especially feminine appearance. It also means he doesn't have a history to look back on or a famous master to look up to, which is why he becomes wistful if you send a sword out for Kiwame training with him as the secretary. It also might explain his fixation on the Saniwa.
* BlankSlate: As a sword with no history or legends to base his personality on, he lacks a defined personality, interests, or hobbies, which he often struggles to accept when interacting with the other, much more colorful Touken Danshi in the spin-offs.
* CombatStilettos: He wears white high-heeled boots into battle.
* GentleGiant: He's one of the tallest characters in the cast, and has a reserved and easily malleable demeanor, [[JerkassToOne unless you're Hasebe]]. Even then, he's not that bad toward him.
* FashionableAsymmetry: Tomoegata has one long sleeve, while his other sleeve is short.
%% * GentlemanAndAScholar: He appears to be one.
* HighClassGlass: He wears a gold-rimmed monocle, likely to symbolize how he was mainly used for ceremonial purposes.
* IRegretNothing: When he's destroyed.
--> ''"For a naginata without even a name, perhaps I have done well..."''
* JourneyToFindOneSelf: He, like every sword, is eventually chosen to undergo Kiwame training, but unlike most swords, he has no history to draw from because he is simply an amalgamation of naginata with no names or legends, and whose masters have failed to go down in history. His journey is about accepting this about himself so that he can write his own story with his current master and repay all of the nameless naginata who contributed to his existence.
* HotterAndSexier: Crosses straight into this territory after Kiwame with more revealing clothing and an injured sprite that looks as if he's, for lack of a better description, pole dancing.
%% * TheRival: To Hasebe in their recollection about the Saniwa.
* SatelliteCharacter: Toward the Saniwa, although justified. Unlike most Touken Danshi, who can be loyal to the Saniwa while also having their own personalities, interests, and struggles due to legends, influence from former owners, and other factors that define their characterization, Tomoegata is an amalgamation of nameless naginata with no particular legends or feats, so he defines himself by how useful he can be to the Saniwa.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: He and Shizukagata share the same face and they look nearly identical to each other, but the only main differences is their hair color.
* UndyingLoyalty: To the Saniwa. He seems to genuinely care about them, and in ''Warriors'', his devotion to them is so unwavering that, in their absence, he is oblivious to his own preferences and desires because he spent all of his time doting on them. The focus of most of his Bond Conversations with the other Touken Danshi is helping him find out what his interests beyond the Saniwa are.
* VocalDissonance: His deep voice strongly contrasts his distinctly feminine appearance.

!! Tomoegata (''Warriors'')
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f23bdd44_0228_480d_be3c_512a6240b1cc.png]]

A naginata with a wide body and a large curve at its tip, and also used for ceremonial purposes. It is a collection of comma-shaped naginata, without an inscription or anecdote. He identifies more as a divine being and less as a human. He is overprotective of his master, always standing by and taking care of the saniwa so they are always in the spotlight.

In this game, he is assigned to the Third Team.
----
* BlankSlate: He has a relatively quiet personality compared to the more colorful Touken Danshi, focusing most of his energies on serving the Saniwa and winning their approval. His Bond Conversation with Omokage suggests that this might be because he is a sword without a name, history, or legends, leaving him with nothing to draw from in terms of personality. It also didn't help that he spent the majority of his time tending to the Saniwa rather than learning about himself when they were still around, leaving the other Touken Danshi to encourage him to fill in the blanks in their absence.
* CommonalityConnection: In their Bond Conversation, he attempts to understand Omokage as a fellow sword that is an amalgamation of other swords of a certain type, rather than a single being.
* KindHeartedCatLover: ''Warriors'' reveals that he likes cats but has difficulty getting along with them because they are intimidated by his large stature. He seeks advice from Mikazuki on how to befriend the kitten who has taken an interest in Mikazuki during their Bond Conversation, and the two devise a plan to lure it with fish.
* LonersAreFreaks: DownplayedTrope; He's not a loner on purpose, but he spent so much time tending to their master's needs that he forgot to make friends with the other Touken Danshi. A few of his Bond Conversations revolve around him learning to make friends.
* {{Hypocrite}}: He chastises Heshikiri Hasebe for his distant attitude toward Omokage and reminds him that their Saniwa said they should support each other, but it is revealed in his Bond Conversation with Tsurumaru that he also spent so much time with their master that he barely paid attention to, let alone spent any time with, the other Touken Danshi.
* TheRival: To Heshikiri Hasebe, who sees him as a rival for the position of their master's most loyal sword because of how dedicated they both are to them.
* TragicKeepsake: He keeps a letter written to him by their Saniwa as a keepsake, and has read it so many times that it's falling apart.
* UndyingLoyalty: To the Saniwa. They went missing long before ''Warriors'''s events began, but he still hopes for their return and keeps a letter written by them as a keepsake.

[[folder:152, 153 – Shizukagata Naginata (静形薙刀)]]
[[quoteright:260:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shizukagata_1.png]]
[[caption-width-right:260:[[labelnote:Kiwame Form]][[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shizukagata_kiwame1.png]][[/labelnote]]]]
-> '''Rarity''': High (Basic/Toku), Special (Kiwame)\
'''Voiced by''': Creator/YoheiAzakami\
'''Illustrated by''': Kinako
-> ''"I am Shizukagata, a naginata. Although I have neither inscriptions nor anecdotes, it's fine as long as I can just make them now."''

A naginata that is suitable for combat with a slender build and slight curve. His strong rivalry against spears may be due to the transition of weapons on the battlefield. His demands for his master to stay away from him is due to his concerns that his powers may destroy his master.
----
* AnthropomorphicPersonification: Like Tomoegata, he's a personification of all Shizuka-type Naginata in general, which was a subtype designed for use by men. This is the reason for his especially muscular appearance.
* BadassBoast: In one of his awakened quotes.
--> ''"Now, it's time to unleash my power!"''
* BerserkButton: Yaris. Normally cordial and focused on making memories with everyone, he is rather hostile with Otegine in their recollection due to this distaste.
* CombatStilettos: He wears black high-heeled boots into battle.
* CuteLittleFangs: He has one and it can only be seen in his awakened sprite.
* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: A major issue for him, to the point he tries to avoid touching the Saniwa directly out of fear of hurting them. He's also uneasy about horsekeeping or accidentally breaking the goods while shopping. He's slowly growing out of it after Kiwame, though.
-->''"Well...uhh, you see... Since I'm so careless... whenever Master gets close to me it feels like I might break you... I'm scared of that."''
* FantasticRacism: He doesn't particularly like yaris, feeling a rivalry toward them.
* FashionableAsymmetry: Shizukagata has one long sleeve, while his other sleeve is short.
* FriendToAllChildren: Contrast to his appearance, he's surprisingly very good with the tantous and wakizashis and worries over them. He even reminds the Saniwa about how they're doing if you haven't played in a while.
* MrFanservice: He normally is one to begin with, what with his fairly revealing clothing, but gets cranked up after Kiwame with plenty of gratuitous injured pole dancing.
* SiblingYinYang: Contrast him with Tomoegata, and it's literally yin and yang.
* StockingFiller: Wears a spiked garter around his left leg post-kiwame.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: He and Tomoegata share the same face and they look nearly identical to each other, but the only main differences is their hair color.
* TookALevelInCheerfulness: Shizukagata becomes more confident after Kiwame, finally realizing that the Saniwa summoning him will make him becoming stronger and form bonds with others. He also tries to be more delicate with his strength when interacting with the Saniwa. Emphasis on trying.
