!AZRE Atlas

The kingdom of Solitas, Atlas was originally the Kingdom of Mantle, a city built on the work of migrants from the other kingdoms travelling north. Despite the backlash from the native people that were already there, Mantle managed to gain a foothold and the economic boom started, seeing the sheer amount of inventions that were given to the rest of Remnant to help the other kingdoms. Just before the Great War began, the upper class section of Mantle raised itself into the skies, creating the city of Atlas and the new capital of the newly named Kingdom of Atlas.

During the Great War, Atlas, and its ally Mistral, proved a dangerous opponent to Vale, pushing them back in the first few years. During that time, the kingdom extended its territories, both increasing its grip on Vacuo and creating the Faunus colony of Menagerie, using Faunus slaves to mine up the Dust and rare minerals found on the remote island. However, after it took too much from Vacuo, the desert kingdom joined forces with Vale, forcing Atlas and Mistral to surrender by the end of the war, forfeiting the colony of Menagerie and any territories it had taken during the fighting.

!!Atlas Academy

One of the four Huntsman Academies in Remnant, Atlas Academy is located in the city of Atlas, with James Ironwood as its headmaster.

[[folder:James Ironwood]]

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ironwood_height.png]]

---> “The one person you should be doing this for is not your parents, or your team, or your career. It’s for yourself. Before making this decision, ask yourself: Do '''I''' want this? ”

The Headmaster of Atlas Academy and General of the Atlesian armies, James Ironwood is one of the members of Ozpin's inner circle, trusted with deep secrets that the rest of Remnant has no idea about. Scarred from his time as a soldier, and having to wear prosthetics to simply live, he understands the hardships of people who have to rely on aids, connecting with Ruri over their disabilities.

However, he is a man of action and despises waiting around for anything, which puts him at odds with not only Eliana, but Ozpin himself.
----

* AnArmAndALeg: He had lost the entire right side of his body when he was younger.
* AppealToForce: His go to method, so much so that [[spoiler:when the headmasters are talking about tracking Merlot down, Ironwood immediately asks to send his army in to scour through Samson's Valley. Eliana is quick to deny his request given the volatile relationship between Vacuo and Atlas]].
* ColorCodedCharacters: Like the rest of the headmasters, Ironwood is connected to the colour blue. Not only does he wear plenty of blue with white, but Atlas is described as being built with blue and white, including the shields that protect the kingdom.
* FairytaleMotif: Matching Ozpin and his inner circle, Ironwood is ''The Tin Man'' from the Wizard of Oz.
* AFatherToHisMen: Along with wanting to delve into android soldiers to protect his own, Ironwood has this relationship with Winter. [[spoiler: When Qrow appears after leaving her alone while pregnant, Ironwood is quick to call him out and try to get Qrow to take responsibility on behalf of the missing woman]].
* GoodIsNotNice: Like Eliana, Ironwood is firmly on the side of the heroes, doing everything he can to protect his kingdom and Remnant, but he's not particuarly bound by morality given that [[spoiler: he's funding scientists in Atlas with developing machines that can extract people's very souls, having some blueprints stolen and given to Merlot for his own experimentation]]. Not to mention that he's defensive over Atlas, despite all the horrible things that kingdom has and continues to do.
* HappilyMarried: [[spoiler: He and Clover are married]].
* {{Hypocrite}}: A minor case, but Ironwood is quick to tell Mauve not to overexert herself in a blind attempt to uphold her family's name and Atlas when she should take the chance to rest, yet is shown to have little patience to wait around himself and prefers taking immediate action.
* MeaningfulName:
** ''James'' is the English name meaning "Supplanter", or someone who takes over through scheming or force, mirroring not only James' aggressive strategies and favouring force over stealth, but Atlas' entire expansion across Remnant.
** ''Ironwood'' mimics the colour grey and silver, not only connecting to Ironwood's cold colour scheme but his extensive use of prosthetics over the right side of his body.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: James and Eliana can't go one conversation without it devolving into arguments and insults, with Ozpin being the only one capable of stopping them before they delve into physical violence.
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: In contrast to the more passive Jin and Ozpin, Ironwood prefers to deal with situations with his own means, mostly by using his military to either beat the problem into submission or scare them with the threat of force. When it's more personal issues, [[spoiler: such as Ozpin's deteriorating health, James prefers to take immediate action rather than wait for Ozpin to naturally die and transfer to another host, putting him at odds with his allies]].

[[folder:Team FNKI]]

A second year team that first met AZRE in Shade's Vytal Tournament, actually being the first team the heroes are matched with to fight.

!!Flynt Quartz

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/flynt_height.png]]

--> “Ain’t no shame in losing. ‘Specially when you’re facing the best.”

Leader of Team FNKI, Flynt Quartz was the son of a Dust store owner, only for his family to lose their business after being outcompeted by the SDC. Because of this loss, he accepted a spot in Atlas Academy to try and earn money to support his family.
----

* AdaptationNameChange: His last name was changed from Coal to Quartz.
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: His Semblance works like this, as Flynt produces three copies of himself to increase his damage output with his weapon. Each one has a different colour tie and hat band to differentiate them.
* CoolShades: Wears these too, both because they keep the Vacuo sun out of his eyes, and because they're stylish.
* {{Conscription}}: What his entry into Atlas basically was. Flynt didn't join because he wanted to, but rather because the military preyed on people like him who had no options for work in Mantle.
* CripplingOverSpecialisation: Despite how damaging his trumpet is, able to bring down solid stone pillars, he's shown to not be able to adapt if his main attacks don't work. When [[spoiler: Ruri manages to render his trumpet unusuable with ice Dust, he can only let out one swear before she throws him out of the building]].
* DefeatMeansFriendship: After losing to Ruri, Flynt drops his mighty attitude to her and genuinely compliments her and her team, though that didn't last long when Adam brings up Flynt's affiliation to Atlas.
* {{Foil}}: Sets himself up to be one for Ruri. Both are proficient fighters who used wide scale attacks and a profiency for Dust, but while Ruri was born into a wealthy Faunus family that allowed her to pursue a career as a Huntress out of her own desire, Flynt came from a working class family that lost their only business, forcing him to join Atlas Academy just for a job that could support his family.
* TheLeader: Of Team FNKI.
* MakeSomeNoise: His trumpet allows Flynt to produce shockwaves that can cause serious damage and be infused with Dust to create different effects.
* {{Polyamory}}: He's in a relationship with the rest of his team.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: Savvy to Neon's Energetic. The two fight together, but while Neon is a cheery, fast paced girl who always has a smile, Flynt is more cool headed and doesn't let much get to him.
* SelfDuplication: What his Semblance allows him to do.

!!Neon Katt

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/neon_height.png]]

--> “You type of Faunus make me sick. Always looking at the bad things, and wasting the good. You wanna stomp your feet and break your toys? Fine, but don’t go breaking mine as well.”

The N in FNKI, Neon is the only Faunus of her team in Atlas Academy, having worked hard to get there despite the kingdom's vicious discrimination of her people.
----

* CollaredByFashion: Neon wears a white collar with a bell on it, modelled after a cat collar. Given her clear pride in her Faunus heritage, and the fact that she actually picked the name Katt for herself, it's very likely intentional.
* FacialMarkings: Has a small heart under her left eye.
* FashionableAsymmetry: There's less on Neon that is symmetrical than there isn't.
* AnIcePerson: Her nunchucks use ice Dust.
* LittleBitBeastly: She's a cat Faunus, and has a long cat tail as her trait.
* ModestyShorts: Wears a pair under her very short miniskirt.
* MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch: Has this attitude when arguing with Adam. While Adam is constantly aware of the Faunus oppression and doesn't hide his disdain for it, Neon acknowledges it but goes on to say that many Faunus are focusing too much on complaining rather than doing anything about it.
* PlayfulCatSmile: She's shown to smile like a cat when she's in a teasing mood.
* PlayingWithFire: On top of her preferred ice Dust usage, Neon is shown to use fire Dust also.
* {{Polyamory}}: She's in a relationship with the rest of her team.
* PunnyName: Her name said fast sounds like 'Nyan Cat', her allusion. Neon admits that she chose it herself.
* RainbowMotif: Her Semblance leaves a rainbow trail after her, with Neon wearing many colours in her outfit and even having rainbows on her tights.
* RollerbladeGood: Wears a pair of rollerblades to increase her speed and agility, along with her speed Semblance.
* SavvyGuyEnergeticGirl: The Energetic to Flynt's Savvy. With both working together, Flynt prefers to keep a level head and still compliments people even when bigging himself up, whereas Neon straight up trash talks everyone and anyone, even fellow Faunus like Adam.
* SuperSpeed: Her Semblance, though Ruri notes that Neon's is an especially fast version since she trained with many tutors with speed Semblances before, whereas Neon's leaves Ruri on the ropes.
* SurvivalMantra: "Never Miss A Beat", something she repeats during her fight.
* TrashTalk: Does in it far more than any of her teammates, especially with Flynt actually complimenting Ruri when they were fighting. Neon uses taunting and jabs to throw her opponent off mentally, making it easier to make mistakes and give her the advantage.
* {{Troll}}: She shows little care for how mad she makes people with her comments, and even drops in a few puns during her fight with Ruri. The only reaction she gets back from the mute girl if her thinking it's cheap.

!!Kobalt

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kobalt_height.png]]

--> “When you got the biggest military in the world, specialised fighters like Huntsmen aren’t as high on the pecking order as elsewhere.”

The K of Team FNKI and Ivori's twin sister.
----
* AdaptationDyeJob: She's completely different to how Kobalt looks in ''RWBY'':
** She has dark skin compared to his pale complexion.
** Her hair is black to blue gradient, rather than straight blue.
* AdaptationRelationshipOverhaul: Kobalt and Ivori are just teammates in ''RWBY''. In ''AZRE'', Ivori is Kobalt's twin sister.
* GenderFlip: Kobalt is a man in ''RWBY'', whereas Kobalt in ''AZRE'' is a woman.
* {{Polyamory}}: She's in a relationship with the rest of her team, except for Ivori.
* RichBitch: She and Ivori are some of the few upper class people in the Academy, and while Ivori is more approachable and friendly, Kobalt still retains some of the snobby behaviour common amongst the elite.
* TagTeamTwins: While their fight isn't shown, Kobalt teams up with her twin; Ivori, against Eirian and Zanthus.
* YouDontLookLikeYou: There's very little she shares design wise with Kobalt in ''RWBY''.

!!Ivori

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ivori_height.png]]

--> “True. You guys were a pretty good team.”

The I of Team FNKI and Kobalt's twin sister.
----
* AdaptationRelationshipOverhaul: Ivori and Kobalt are just teammates in ''RWBY''. In ''AZRE'', Kobalt is Ivori's twin sister.
* GenderFlip: Ivori is a man in ''RWBY'', whereas Ivori in ''AZRE'' is a woman.
* {{Polyamory}}: She's in a relationship with the rest of her team, save for Kobalt.
* SpoiledSweet: To offset Kobalt's RichBitch personality, Ivori is far more nicer to everyone she interacts with.
* TagTeamTwins: While their fight isn't shown, Ivori teams up with her twin; Kobalt, against Eirian and Zanthus.
* YouDontLookLikeYou: Like her sister, Ivori doesn't look at all like Ivori in ''RWBY''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Penny Polendina]]
---> "Salutations!"

An Atlesian student given to Team RWBY as an honorary fifth member to participate in the Vytal Tournament after Blake's willing dropout.
----

* AdaptationalDyeJob: She has darker skin than she does in ''RWBY''.
* IdiotHair: She has an ahoge on top of her afro, and is a strange girl with poor social skills and strange way of talking. She doesn't seem to grasp basic human interactions, as her introduction has Blake noticing that Penny doesn't even blink.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: Cosntantly gets up in people's faces, even touching them, and doesn't seem to understand that this can make people very uncomfortable. Ruby's reaction to Penn grabbing her hands is to pull them away and leave the room in [[{{Tranquil Fury}} silent anger]].
* NoSocialSkills: She doesn't understand social cues or how to have natural conversations, coming off as very straight forward and clingy when asking Team RWBY to be her friends.
---> '''Weiss''': You have a very forward way of speaking.
---> '''Penny''': So I do! Let's be friends!
[[/folder]]

!!Atlas Military

The biggest army of Remnant, the Atlas military is the formation of the common soldier, robotic droids created by the scientists, and Huntsmen that were recruited during their time in Atlas Academy.

[[folder:Winter Schnee]]

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/winter_height.png]]

---> "I know you miss her, but what happened can only be blamed on one person, and that’s him. We both know it, Weiss."

Ironwood's second in command and eldest child of the Schnee family, as well as Winijay's mother and Qrow's on-off partner.
----

* ActionMom: [[spoiler: A Huntress, Lieutenant General, and mother to Winijay; her and Qrow's daughter]].
* AdaptationDyeJob: Confirmed on the author's blog, Winter Schnee [[spoiler: is the bastard child of Arthur Watts and Willow Schnee in ''AZRE'', and has been redesigned to take features from both her parents]].
** Her skin is more tanned compared to her pale complexion in ''RWBY''.
** Her eyes are green rather than blue.
* AdaptationRelationshipOverhaul:
** Because of the change in her [[spoiler:father, Winter is now only Weiss and Whitley's half-sister, and is no longer biologically related to Jacques Schnee, who is now her step father. As well as that, her antagonistic relationship with Qrow is changed so that they were lovers at one point, though their relationship is still as rocky now given that Qrow abandoned her]].
** [[spoiler:Arthur Watts is now her biological father]].
* AlliterativeFamily: She, her siblings (Weiss/Whitley), mother (Willow) and daughter (Winijay) all share names beginning with W. While most of them also share a snowy theme, Winijay is the only one since her nickname is inspired by the Blue Jay; a corvid, like Qrow.
* BigSisterInstinct: Although she's more reserved with Weiss, compared to the other sisters Yang and Ruby, Winter still takes time out of her duties to her kingdom and daughter to check up on her younger sister. Even though Weiss' insistence in siding with their father frustrates her, Winter refuses to abandon her and instead departs with much needed advice on Weiss.
* HatesTheirParent: She loathes her stepfather, Jacques, and doesn't remember Willow as fondly as Weiss does.
* MeaningfulName: ''Winter'' refers to the season, and along with her natural white hair and white colour scheme, [[spoiler:she has been chosen by Ironwood to be the next Winter Maiden]].
* NumberTwo: Her voicemail in ''Much Needed Talk'' reveals that she had earned the title Lieutenant General; a rank just below General that Ironwood has.
* UndyingLoyalty: Ironwood describes her as such towards the Kingdom of Atlas.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Clover O'Connor]]

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clover_height.png]]

Leader of the Ace Ops, a high ranking soldier and Huntsman, and Ironwood's husband.
----

* AdaptationNameChange: His last name is Ebi in ''RWBY'', but has been renamed to O'Connor in ''AZRE'' to better fit his Irish design.
* FairytaleMotif: With his team being based of Aesop's Fables; Clover's is ''The Fishermen and the Fish''.
* HappilyMarried: [[spoiler: He and Ironwood are confirmed to be married]].
* MeaningfulName: The clover is a plant that is heavily associated with good luck and is the national flower of Ireland, with Clover having a good luck Semblance and heavily connected to Irish culture.
* WindsOfDestinyChange: He still has his good luck Semblance, allowing him to change probability to his favour. This ends up earning him ire from [[BlessedWithSuck Qrow]].
[[/folder]]

!!City of Atlas

Once the upper class part of Mantle, the city of Atlas was created just before the Great War, with parts of the land being risen into the skies to develop into the rich city it is known today. Despite all the inventions and good it had given to Remnant, the city has a dark history, with everyone knowing just how much blood Atlas had spilt on its path to further its security and financial gain.

[[folder:Pietro Polendina]]

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pietro_height.png]]

---> “We can’t make aids perfect just yet sadly, nothing will ever work better than nature herself, but I will try as hard as I can.”

A famous scientist who is well known for his contributions to disability aids, vehicles and military equipment.
----

* DarkSecret: Adam, and many Faunus, know that Pietro and many of Atlas' scientists have been doing more unethical treatments on Faunus to further their understanding in the science field. How much Pietro has done is unknown, but he does admit to knowing just how far his fellow collegues go to for science.
* FairytaleMotif: With his insect references and creative personality, he's ''Geppetto'' from Pinocchio.
* GadgeteerGenius: On top of his many contributions to Remnant, Pietro also designed not only the prosthetics that saved Ironwood's life, but Ruri's hearing aid and a small speech device for mute people.
* GeniusCripple: One of Atlas' finest minds, and is disabled with Pietro having to use a wheelchair to get about.
* NiceGuy: He's friendly, warm, and genuinely wants to make the lives of other disabled people better through his inventions, having accepted Ruri early given his closeness to Ironwood, who was started to grow fond of the deaf girl. However, even Pietro has a dark past.
* NonActionGuy: With everyone else shown from Atlas being from the Academy or the Military, Pietro stands out as he's a scientist, not a fighter, and as such has no fighting ability.
* TokenGoodTeammate: This to Atlas' scientists. He's shown to harbour no racist beliefs towards the Faunus, tries to treat them as he would human patients, is visibly doubtful of how far they should go just for their field, and got into bioengineering out of a genuine desire to help people like himself. This is compared to a kingdom where even the villains have called out for their unethical treatment of minorities and blatant disrespect towards sacred things like Gods and souls.
[[/folder]]

!! Schnee Family

One of the richest and most influencial families in Remnant, the Schnee Family is led by its patriarch; Jacques Schnee, with his heiress Weiss Schnee, having gone to Beacon to improve her combat skills and join team RWBY. Despite their influence, the family suffers from infamy regarding its borderline illegal business practices and exploitation of Faunus and Humans in Mantle.

[[folder:Jacques Schnee]]

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jacques_height.png]]

---> “We don’t accept the rules of those lesser than us. If you want to continue this idea of playing Huntress, then you will do so to the standards I expect of you. Were you made the leader?”

The CEO of the Schnee Dust Company, Jacques Schnee is the father of Weiss and Whitley Schnee, as well as the step-father of Winter Schnee. Spending his first years in the company pushing their reach even further after the loss of the pre war assests, he is relentless in his goals and standards.
----

* AbusiveDad: His first appearance had him immediately admonishing Weiss for her tardiness and focusing on her achievements in Beacon rather than her emotional wellbeing. When Weiss fails to meet his high standards, he pits her negatively to the more favourable Whitley, poking at Weiss' insecurities, and has an even lesser opinion of his step daughter; Winter. Outside of his physical actions, Weiss' attitude to herself and inability to accept anything less than perfection is heavily implied to be a result of his raising.
* AdaptationDyeJob: He retains some of his canon ''RWBY'' design, but still has some of his natural black hair show through his white, and has his all white business suit swapped out for a more Victorian-style blue suit.
* AdaptationRelationshipOverhaul: While Willow was still his wife and Weiss/Whitley his children, Winter is now his step daughter given Willow's previous affair with Watts.
** While Willow was the Schnee by birth and Jacques the one who married into the family in ''RWBY'', ''AZRE'' swaps those around and instead has Jacques as the former heir to the SDC. Because of this, Nicolas was his father rather than father in law, and he inherited the Schnee Semblance that was passed down to Weiss and Whitley.
* AmbitionIsEvil: The one who Weiss got her flaw from. All the talk about the Schnee family not lowering themselves to those percieved as lesser started with him, and his legacy on the SDC involves forcibly extending its reach, destroying any attempts at unionisation, and bending around the anti-slavery laws to indenture any unfortunate soul working in his company.
* BadBoss: All the poor managment and rules set in place come ultimately from him. Although Weiss tries to defend it by saying he works in line with the law, Adam and many of the Faunus who remember the SDC know that his attempts to better the SDC are surface level at best.
* ControlFreak: He expects his children to obey his every order without complaint, and reacts badly to even percieved slights such as Weiss calling him late. Since Whitley is the only one to avoid any negative jab at, the only way to remain in Jacques' good books are to do as he says.
* DisappointedInYou: Gives this in spades to Weiss over her failure to be leader. Since he didn't want her to go to Beacon, the fact that she couldn't even be named the leader of her team proves to him that it's a waste of time and an insult for someone who is supposed to be a Schnee.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: From what Weiss says, Jacques did love Willow and was changed when she died. However, Winter suspects that Jacques was the one to cause their mother's death.
* OddNameOut: All of the other members of the Schnee Family have names beginning with 'W'; Willow, Winter, Weiss and Whitley. Jacques is the only one who's name doesn't follow that rule, despite being the heir of the SDC and a Schnee by blood.
* ParentalFavoritism: While Weiss still remains the heiress to the SDC despite disobeying him, Jacques makes it clear that she is on thin ice, and clearly favours her younger brother; Whitley.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Willow Schnee]]

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/willow_height.png]]

Wife to Jacques Schnee, and the mother of all three Schnee children, much of Willow is left unknown given her long death before the story.
----

* AdaptationDyeJob: Not as drastic as the rest of her family, but Willow's once light blue eyes are swapped for indigo.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: While it's contested between the sisters just how much Jacques loved her, they both don't deny that Jacques did in fact love Willow and was devastated over her death.
* PostHumousCharacter: Unlike RWBY, Willow is confirmed to be deceased during the phone call between Weiss and Winter. While Weiss blames the Faunus, specifically the White Fang, for her death, Winter blames Jacques for it.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Whitley Schnee]]

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/whitley_height.png]]

The youngest of the Schnee children, Whitley is Weiss and Winter's younger brother, and the only one not having gone into the Huntsman Industry. Rather, he is currently attending Mirior's Academy for Boys, likely following a business education that Weiss previously earned before leaving for Beacon.
----

* TheAce: Jacques doesn't hesitate to pit Whitley's impressive achievements when speaking to Weiss. Despite only just starting his second year, he is on the path to becoming a Prefect; something that Jacques reveals to be the youngest student to earn.
* AdaptationDyeJob: Unlike his ''RWBY'' counterpart, Whitley has a split hair colour of white and black, and indigo eyes rather than pale blue. Both done to help separate him from Weiss.
* NonActionGuy: The only one of the Schnee trio to not have gone into any combat career.
* ParentalFavoritism: With how Jacques heavily dislikes Weiss' decision to go to Beacon, even after she tried to explain it as helping the family, he has no such attitude when talking about Whitley, rather praising his achievements and putting him as the standard that Weiss should be.
* TheUnseen: Despite Jacques finally making an appearance in ''Much Needed Talk'', Whitley is nowhere to be seen and is only mentioned by his father.
