Small, young and extremely curious, Masha is the main character of the series. Although she's only three years old, she's incredibly good at doing things unusual for her age. Much to the Bear's chagrin, she often gets in trouble because of her sheer curiosity and hyperactivity, and he must always repair the damage afterwards.
----
* AdorablyPrecociousChild: She is said to be 3 years old, and yet she can perform daunting tasks for such an age and speaks properly.
* AirplaneArms: In the "First day of school" with authentic sound.
* AndCallHimGeorge: The reason farm animals hide from her.
* BigEater: Played with. She still is a little child with an average stomach and she can be a PickyEater, but as soon as she gets hungry, it's almost guaranteed she'll instantly eat whatever Bear is carefully picking or cooking.
* BrattyHalfPint: She can be annoying at times (although never the "impolite/insulting attitude" kind) and likes to talk a lot and easily becomes hyperactive.
* CheerfulChild: She's always cheery and joyous.
* ChildProdigy: In one episode she becomes unbeatable at TabletopGame/Chess insanely fast without so much as a learning phase, much to the collective befuddlement of the Bear and the Tiger. She can also pull out all sorts of insane engineering feats.
* ConstantlyCurious: She's always curious and eager to try new things.
* CountryCousin: To her CityMouse cousin Dasha.
* TheCutie: She simply looks adorable, even with her mischievous tendencies.
* TheDreaded: While she's never malicious, her tendency to rambunctiously burst onto the scene, wanting to get involved in the other characters' activities while she was not necessarily invited, providing UnwantedAssistance and unwittingly wreaking havoc at it all has the Bear and other animals (from both the farm and the forest) rightfully dread her presence at times. In the case of the Bear it's because he knows the peace/quality time he enjoys will be invariably ruined by her.
* FearlessFool:
** Sometimes she'll put herself in harm's way without realizing it and without an inch of fear.
** The first time she met the Bear when using his bed as a trampoline, he lifted her with both arms and let out a MightyRoar in her face. She wasn't scared at all, despite not knowing he's a gentle bear.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: If Bear is in trouble, she often gathers the animals of the forest to solve his problems. Somewhat averted with her animals, since she doesn't know they fear her.
* GenkiGirl: She's hyperactive and very enthusiastic pretty much at all times.
* GracefulLadiesLikePurple: Her primary outfit is a purple traditional Russian dress, a purple head scarf and purple sneakers, which underlines her girliness. The other outfits she occasionally dons are often purple as well.
* Leitmotif: "Masha's Song", a lively polka highlighting her energetic and rambunctious nature.
* PickyEater: She can be very picky with food (even with food that looks tasty) and reject what the Bear cooks her and only demand sugary things.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: Hilariously played straight. Despite her age, she's fast enough to outspeed a wolf and drag Bear upstairs and downstairs with her hand.
** How about catching up with a running train and towing it back to a station with a rope?
* RoyalBrat: At one point a king lion visits her home on vacation to be with bear and in a plead to get away from his overbearing image he gives his crown to Masha making her queen for a day. When Masha gets the crown she makes all kinds of changes to her live and demands that go too far resulting her subjects starting a Revolution.
* SuperSpeed: She can run pretty fast, up to catching up with a train.
* SuperStrongChild: DependingOnTheWriter, she can have the average strength of a child of her age, or she can lift and carry things that are much heavier than her, including the Bear. In one episode, she was able to pull a train (not a toy train, an actual train) without any inconvenience.
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: Masha and her cousin Dasha look like twins. PlayedForLaughs when the latter temporary wears the former's Russian traditional dress, which confuses the Bear enough to the point he faints in shock.
* TheThingThatWouldNotLeave: In the first episode, whenever the Bear tries to shoo her away, Masha always ends up coming back to his house. He eventually takes a liking to her and doesn't mind her presence afterwards.
* TokenHuman: There are other humans in the series occasionally, such as her cousin Dasha, but the majority of the cast for most episodes is made of animals besides Masha herself.
* WalkingDisasterArea: MUCH mayhem happens because of her constant curiosity, her hyperactivity and her clumsiness.

!!!Voiced by: Boris Kutnevich (Russian)

Also known as "Mishka", Bear is a former circus star and a happily retired dweller of the forest. Although he may look serious and reserved, he acts as a paternal figure to Masha, and he's always prone to save her from any potential danger and teach her things.
----
* TheAce: In addition to his tricks as a former circus performer, the Bear is skilled in cooking, sewing, gardening, chemistry, is a capable artist in own right and is handy with tools. He even won an Academy Award and created his own time portal for crying sake!
* ADogNamedDog: His name is simply Bear.
* BearyFriendly: He's a nice and gentle bear and the protector of Masha.
* BearyFunny: He can be quite a big goof, and his hapless reactions to Masha's antics provide much of the humor in the series.
* BigEater: He really loves to eat.
* ButtMonkey: And how. Several episodes have Masha relentlessly trying his patience whenever he takes a nap or has fun with his favourite pastimes (which will generally be ruined by Masha bursting onto the scene).
* EasyAmnesia: One episode has Bear temporary losing his memory and wandering in the forest screaming and acting like a madman. Fortunately, Masha saves the day with an InjuryBookend.
* GentleGiant: He may look intimidating, but his heart is bigger than himself.
* Leitmotif: "Bear's Song". The beatboxing highlights his playful and goofy nature.
* NoFlowInCGI: Averted. His fur is extremely detailed, which is unusual for cartoons aimed at pre-schoolers.
* NonHumanSidekick: A bear and the sidekick to the human Masha.
* PapaWolf: He protects Masha like a father would and she is much like his own child.
* ParentalSubstitute: He's very much a substitute father for Masha, loving her like a father would and trying to teach her things.
* RussianBear: Of course, the most internationally known piece of modern Russian animation had to have a bear. Although, here he's quite goofier and more gentle than the "strong" and/or "aggressive" bear usually associated with the trope.

A pair of wolves who live in an old broken ambulance car.
----
* ButtMonkey: They regularly fall victim to Masha's continuous insistence to help them, starting with her ComicallyIneptHealing advices.
* TheChewToy: Given their success rate (nonexistent) and frequency of AmusingInjuries, they must be related to Wile E. Coyote.
* LivesInAVan: They live in an old broken UAZ-452 ambulance car. Masha repaired it once.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Most often seen together after the early seasons.
* TookALevelInDumbass: In one instance in later seasons, they kidnap a chicken to get eggs for Easter. Only thing is, it's a rooster (male), not a hen (female), and they spend a whole day and night futilely waiting for it to lay eggs. Even after a CockADoodleDawn they're still at it.

Masha's older cousin.
----
* CityMouse: She's from a city and occasionally comes to visit Masha in the forest to get some fresh air and relax. That latter part is never really achieved due to Masha being, well, Masha.
* CoincidentalAccidentalDisguise: The first time the Bear bumps into her, she's dressed exactly like Masha and he thinks his beloved Masha has suddenly gone quieter and much less messy than usual as she's putting books on a shelf. Dasha, meanwhile, gets scared and thinks the Bear is dangerous.
* CountryCousin: InvertedTrope. She's a city cousin.
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: She looks nearly identical to Masha minus the hair (light blonde for Masha, white for Dasha) and eyes (green for Masha, blue for Dasha). Particularly visible when Masha dresses her the same as herself, with only their hair and Dasha's broken glasses to tell them apart. It confuses the Bear enough to the point he faints in shock.
