* CreepyGood : Unintentionally, he comes across as this (though it gets better over the course of the 8 episodes), screaming at night, him sitting alone in the toilet with no lights on, and being convinced there are monsters in the world can make you look like this though it is somewhat justified judging by who his father was.
* LoserProtagonist: A CreepyGood 18 year old gay man with NoSocialSkills who has lost both of his parents can qualify as this.
* NiceGuy: Danny has a heart of gold and is only nice to everyone he meets. The unintentionally creepy things he does are not done out of malice but rather as a product of his trauma.
* NoSocialSkills: Being locked away for 18 years with no human interaction other than his father has kept Danny from knowing any social skills.
* NothingButSkinAndBones: Justified, since Steve barely fed Danny with the excuse of the ''monster apocalypse''.
* SociallyAwkwardHero: Most of the FlashbackBPlot show him be scared of his father But in Episode 8 it is subverted [[spoiler:when he is able to fight back against his dad trying to kill him.]]
* StalkingIsLove : Danny succeeds on having a (even if brief) relationship with Ash by stalking him.
* StraightGay: Has no effiminate characteristics but is revealed to be gay in episode 7.
* ThousandYardStare: Justified, since losing both of your parents and having to make peace that your father was a terrible person is a traumatic experience for Danny. [[spoiler:Danny watching his dad kill himself after he tried to kill him plays a part too]].

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/somewhere_boy_season_1_recap_ending_explained_2022_drama_series_696x391.jpg]]
* AbusiveParents: Steve has not only kept Danny locked away from the outside world, he lied to him about the existence of monsters, is implied he did not even try to homeschool him when he was there and at most just talked about movies, monsters or just kept Danny alone at his house knowing fully well he has scared his son out of believing he may die if he goes outside. Taken even further when he [[spoiler:tries to kill his son Danny and when realizes he can't kill him he kills himself instead]].
* AffablyEvil : Steve was (somewhat) friendly as long as you did not mention anything about his wife or Danny did not mention anything about leaving to the outside world By Episode 8 however he becomes FauxAffablyEvil [[spoiler:when he tries to kill Danny after realizing he can not lie to Danny anymore]].
* AlasPoorVillain : Zig-Zagged, while what Steve did was horribile and he caused a lot of trauma and even the last episode where it is shown how he dies [[spoiler:is the one where he is the *least* sympathetic]], he was very mentally unstable (even more than Danny) and he died [[spoiler:alone just like how his wife died]]. Most of the episodes imply that Steve was a loner after his family's death and only Sue tried to help his brother, but even she saw her brother more as a problem than a family member.
* ExcessiveMourning : Steve refuses to acceppt the death of his wife and his excessive Mourning is what keeps Danny locked up for 18 years of his life.
* LoveMakesYouEvil : Everything that Steve does is to protect him from any danger to the point to not letting him go outside ever but he keeps insisting it is because (in his twisted way) he loves him.
* IfICantHaveYou: Invoked in Episode 8[[spoiler: when he decides to kill Danny just for the thought of his son leaving him, it naturally does not end well and kills himself instead]].
* KarmicDeath: Judging by how much of an Abusive Parent Steve was to his son it is hard to feel bad for his suicide. [[spoiler:It is even more justified when he kills himself after he fails to kill Danny. His suicide is caused more by getting caught by his own son than any of the problems he had dealing with his wife's loss.]]
* LiesToChildren : Told Steve all his life that he is not allowed to go outside because there are monsters that might kill him though one could interpret this as an Analogy, Steve keeps the facade by always coming back home with a motorbike helmet and some animal blood.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain : Steve showing Danny self defense skills is a pretty dumb idea when we know by Episode 8 [[spoiler: he was plotting to kill him the moment he found out about the outside world]].
* PosthumousCharacter : By the time the show starts he has already killed himself everything that we know of him is by the use of flashbacks.
* SafetyWorst: Steve kept away his son locked for years just so he could he keep him safe since he was scared of losing him too.
* TheMovieBuff : Steve was a cinephile and gave Danny old movies to wacth.

[[folder: Aaron]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/42tv_in_somewhereboy_aaron_01_7.jpeg]]
* FriendlessBackground: He does not have any friends due to how lonely he feels after his mom's divorce and marrying Paul. He tries a bit too hard when he tries to make friends.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex : Though he acts with some sort of superiority over everyone it is clear he only acts this way because he is insecure of himself and wishes he had a better social life and got along better with Sue's new husband.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He can be a bit of a jerk towards everyone but he deeply cares of his step-brothers, Sue and eventually even Danny.
* NoSocialSkills : More Downplayed than Danny but still appliable, he tries too hard to fit in and overthinks everything which makes him have not that many friends it is quite telling Danny is the one who tells him to start talking to his friends when Aaron and Danny meet up with them at a pub to watch the latest football game.
* TookALevelInKindness : He improves significantly over the course of eight episodes learning how to valuate his family and seeing Danny as a brotherly figure.
[[/folder]]
[[folder: Sue]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/imatge_2023_06_28_101718161.png]]
* HandsOffParenting : Has this type of parenting towards Aaron and to a lesser degree towards Danny too.Letting Danny (who just became a part of society very recently) go drink in the pub with Aaron alone can qualify as this. Even sending him to an hostel all alone (even if she immediately regrets this), is something pretty risky not only for Danny but for the people at the hostel judging that he still is not dealing well with his trauma and still does not know much about the outside world.
* NiceGirl : In Spite of the HandsOffParenting from the first episode she always stands up for Danny. Even after things go horribly wrong she defends him throughout the entire season. We also see in the FlashbackBPlot [[spoiler:she was the only person who tried to rescue Danny from his father, though rather unsuccessfully since Steve just scared her away]].
* ParentsAsPeople: Sue has a restrained relationship with Aaron due to him marrying Paul, she gives too much freedom to Danny (in contrast to Steve overprotectiveness)but she clearly loves them both and is trying her hardest to be a good parent. Thankfully the relationship Sue Danny and Aaron has improves over the course of the season.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/imatge_2023_06_28_135932965.png]]
* HandsOffParenting : Even more so than Sue,while Sue could feel at times disntant deep down she cared for Aaron and Danny, Paul barely talked to Aaron which created a lot of resentment and straight up did not want Aaron in the house in the first place.
* JerkassToOne : He is outright unpleasant towards Danny, and unlike Aaron and Sue that grow closer towards Danny by the end of Season 1 he is still as annoyed with him as he was before, in spite of that,he respects Sue and eventually Aaron fondness of him.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He tries to be on good terms with Aaaron and loves Sue when both Aaron and Sue are sad over Danny's departure he tries to comfort them both.

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/imatge_2023_06_28_170347976.png]]
* ReformedCriminal : By the time the show starts he already served his life in prision and just wants to live a quiet life with his daughter on a farm.
* TookALevelInKindness : Hard to believe, it is the same person Danny's family talk about in a pretty negative light, he has reformed himself after his incident and while he is still understandably pissed off for Danny and Aaron crashing into his farm without permission, he still tries to be understable to both and even gives them a job.
[[/folder]]

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/imatge_2023_06_28_165711053.png]]
* FarmersDaughter: He is the daughter of Mark ''The Monster'' and lives a simple life in the farm.
* NiceGirl : Gets along very well with Danny and Aaron and is one of the characters who is the most sympathetic towards Danny.

[[folder: Ash]]
[[quoteright:216:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/imatge_2023_06_28_175442857.png]]
* AllGaysArePromiscuous : Defied, he agrees to go on a date with Danny a guy who stalked him after a date with another guy was going bad (and it is also stated he has an exboyfriend he broke up with) because he finds him attractive and while he agrees (at first) to meet up with him for another date, judging that he threatned to stay with him, it becomes quite unclear if they will meet up again.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe : Danny begs him to stay, not only because he grows a geniune bond with him but because he was nice to Danny, it naturally does not end well.
* ClosetKey: Is this to Danny.
* NiceGuy: He is somewhat understandable of Danny ''weirdness'' and goes on a date with him, it is understandable he gets scared when Danny threathens him (though again he never wanted to harm Ash in the first place he was just scared of being lonely) but even then he tries to leave as peacefully as he can.
* SexAsRiteOfPassage: Danny starts to improve after he has sex with him (admittingly losing his virginity to him), though he still has a pretty shieled world view, it is a first step towards him becoming a more functional person.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Ash only has an important role in Episode 7 (and he only appears in the Plot A with Danny) but it is what makes Danny discover his sexuality, become more aware of how insecure he has become thanks to Steve, and help him start a route towards self-improvement.Even the title of the series Somewhere Boy is something Danny says in response to Ash asking him where he is from.
