!Medusa and her Colleagues
[[folder:Medusa Gorgon]]

-->''“Soon enough, you all will be stripped of something. Weakened to the point the weakest snake in my body could effortlessly kill you. Most of you have been thorns in my side for the longest. It’s time to get rid of you. I’m using you brats as an example to demoralize the Academy. Your fellow child soldiers will stop fighting, your friends and family will lash out in blind rage. It’ll be destroyed little-by-little! And I’ll have a front-row seat to the chaos.” ''

Medusa Gorgon is the middle child of the infamously legendary Gorgon Sisters whose apparent birthplace is Cobra Island. The mother of Crona, this woman is responsible for the revival of Kishin Asura. Thought to have perished during the first Baba Yaga Castle operation at the hands of Maka and her Majin Hunter, Medusa has returned to wreak havoc on the Academy while attending to her own designs.
-----
* AdaptationalKarma: Twofold.
** In the original manga, Medusa purposely lets herself be slaughtered by Crona to facilitate their transformation into a Kishin. Although, it ultimately fails, there's no denying this deprives the reader of a satisfying final fight with her. Thanks to the Cobra Island Arc, [[spoiler: Medusa conclusively dies in a real fight against Crona with no strings attached.]]
** {{Downplayed}} in regards to the anime adaptation. She's confronted by Marie and Crona, but the latter almost dies in the process and has to be bailed out by Maka. Yet, Medusa still dies thanks to Maka and Stein, but she gets a smug last word. Here? [[spoiler: We repeat, Crona kills Medusa of their own power with little interference from outside sources. Even better, Medusa's FinalSpeech is a simple, incredulous acknowledgement of her grave error, making the whole thing much more satisfying.]]
* AloofBigSister: To Shaula. ''And that is putting it lightly!''
* AmbitionIsEvil: Her ambition to TakeOverTheWorld has made her try and kill the multiple people and aims to cause massive chaos in the long run as she tries to assimilate with Kishin Asura to control Madness itself.
* ArcVillain: Of the Cobra Island Arc.
* TheBadGuyWins: [[spoiler: Practically achieves this as of chapter 33. The crystal ball containing the cursed and sealed away concepts is sent down the waterfall where no can hope to get it back, the last vestiges of resistance within the protagonists are losing strength or have already lost, and the stage is set for her to mop the floor with the rest. Ultimately becomes a NearVillainVictory though when the piece of Shaula’s soul used to power Ouroboros is actually booby-trapped, freeing Ragnarok, the personality traits, and the powers. And when she is finally confronted by Maka and Crona, tagging out Kim and Jacqueline, it is the beginning of the end for Medusa – she dies in the ensuing fight]].
* BadPowersBadPeople: Curses that can leave people shells of their former selves and can manifest their inner darkness order to mentally and physically torture them. [[CardCarryingVillain Fitting]].
* BatmanGambit: She has one going throughout the Cobra Island as it pertains to the main group of heroes, orchestrating events so they would react in ways she expected and behave right like she wanted or needed. The aftermaths of the fight against Atlas and the first game notably hinge on Maka and her friends’ sense of duty.
* BreakTheBadass: If there is one thing Medusa successfully did that stuck, it’s ruining Tsuji’s self-confidence.
* TheChessmaster: She is well aware of the DWMA’s inner workings and uses the holes in the system to her advantage in an effort to eliminate some of her most poignant obstacles to her ambitions.
** Her plan is to destroy and ruin the DWMA, but she is very thorough in making that possible. Prior to the beginning of the story, Medusa retrieves her minions [[spoiler: and brainwashes Krysa as well as turn Atlas, a giant Kishin Egg, into a mindless slave via Reanimation Magic]] and teams up with her younger sister, Shaula. In addition, she engineers a curse named Ouroboros. When she kicks off her plan, she has Eruka plant a fake VIP mission on the mission board that requests the presence of the Academy’s strongest students (Maka and the others, of course) to weaken the military overall. Aware of Lord Death’s and Stein’s keen eyes, she also wrote down the names of random students to eliminate suspicion. A disguised Free and Mizune ships them to Cobra Island, far away from home and cut off from communication. With Ouroboros, she removes a personality or ability from each and every person as they venture deeper into the island, and they don’t realize that until she’s forced to reveal her hand. Meanwhile, Shaula’s role is to promote infighting with her poison back at Death City, but when she fails, Medusa isn’t even fazed. She keeps things on Cobra Island going without a hitch and simply plots to take care of the rest when she’s done. [[spoiler: As Chapter 33 shows, her master plan worked.]]
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: She treats betraying both her older and younger sister with casual indifference, like it is something she wanted to scratch off her to-do list for life.
* ClassicVillain: Representing Ambition, using deception and cunning to move her plans along.
* ControlFreak: She is noticeably frustrated and fidgety during the maze level. She expected Maka and everyone else to struggle hopelessly as they encounter death trap after death trap while being on the clock. What instead happens is they put their heads together and rally through the maze with ease. When the game inevitably goes awry, in part thanks to her cheating, Medusa is ''ecstatic'' that she is back in control. Furthermore, there is the haughty and superior attitude she displays toward Shaula. Finally, Crona’s shadow, who is pretty much Medusa’s mouthpiece, tells Crona how he/she is nothing without her. All in all, Medusa can’t stand not being in control of people she deems lesser.
* CrystalBall: Medusa’s crystal ball is the crux of her whole grand scheme on Cobra Island, serving multiple purposes. With the help of vectors scattered all around the island, it provides surveillance, acts as a communicator, is the control center for Ouroboros, and is the storage center for all the stolen powers and characteristics.
* DarknessEqualsDeath: The snake monolith she resides in [[EvilIsNotWellLit lacks normal lighting]]. When Kid and the remaining combatants confront her in the climax of the StoryArc, she is waiting for them in a dim room.
* DidntSeeThatComing: Kim lasts much longer than Medusa anticipated and even injures her in the process. [[spoiler: Crona bringing her to justice is also another fatal miscalculation on her part.]]
* DirtyCoward: Shaula accuses Medusa of being this in her ReasonYouSuckSpeech, seeing as she manipulates and abuses weaker people without much direct confrontation.
* EquippableAlly: The Portable Purple Clown. She conducts Madness Fusion with it to power up her snake familiars, granting them enough strength to overpower the Khmer Dragon.
* EyeScream: Kim burns one of her eyes shut as part of her final gambit.
* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: Are you surprised nobody wins a single of her rigged {{Deadly Game}}s?
* HatedByAll: Almost everyone who has ever met and spoken to this woman cannot stand her. The {{Original Character}}s quickly learn she has no redeeming qualities, the canon characters desperately want to kick her ass and end her for all eternity, and Medusa’s own sister exhibits nothing but pure contempt towards her.
* HateSink: While Maka and the rest of the canon characters already despise her, with plenty of reasons to do so, it’s her wanton cruelty and sadism that quickly earns her the ire of the original characters, individuals who didn’t even know she existed until recently. Medusa treats them, otherwise innocent people who she only drew to the island to Mask the fact that she was after Maka and company, with the same callousness as she does her archenemies.
* IControlMyMinionsThrough: She pretty easily rounds up her minions again despite the passage of time – Eruka through Fear via the [[FridgeHorror apparently dead]] snakes in her body, Mizune through Revenge thanks to Eruka lying, Free is presumably through Kindness like in canon, and [[spoiler: Krysa by MindControl, and Atlas by Remote Control]].
* ILied: Constantly. Each of the four games have their own set of rules and such. Later on, Medusa flat-out tells the protagonists to their faces that she controls the rule and can change them as she pleases. Obviously, all alterations are meant to inconvenience them as cruelly as possible.
* IShallTauntYou: Constantly. Especially in her confrontation with Kim. She cannot comprehend why Kim of all the available fighters thinks she has a chance and voices her opinion without rest.
* JokerImmunity: Seriously, she survives expulsion from Rachel’s body via Majin Hunter by using the same spell she used to live in her battle against Stein and Spirit. This woman ''refuses'' to stay dead. [[spoiler: It wears off when Crona conclusively kills her in Chapter 34.]]
* KarmicDeath: Karma certainly enjoyed getting back at Medusa when it was time for judgment. [[spoiler: For starters, her killer is not Maka, but rather ''Crona''. The same Crona she deliberately engineered to be a killer and manipulated since childhood. As a bonus, before she gets hacked up, Crona temporarily slips into the AxCrazy persona he/she had when they still worked together. Not only that, the reason everyone gets their powers and stuff back is because Medusa tried to backstab Shaula, turning her malice full circle. Lastly, her gambit on Cobra Island was to kill everyone once they were weakened. By the time she fights Crona, Medusa has lost one eye, received severe burns, and is not exactly at full strength.]]
* KickTheDog: ''[[RuleOfThree Constantly]]''. From belittling emotionally fragile people to mistreating her own family, this might as well be her hobby.
* KickThemWhileTheyAreDown: Her strategy is to weaken Maka and company with Ouroboros and, if the games don’t ruin them, she will gladly take that honor.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: WordOfGod even stresses there is no way Medusa is coming back.]]
* KillerGameMaster: Medusa doesn't just intend for Maka and the others to lose -- she wants them to lose catastrophically and at the most inopportune times to break their spirits, even going so far as to outright cheat to ensure they suffer for being thorns in her side all this time.
* KillThePoor: If her claims are true, the body she now inhabits formerly belonged to “some nobody from the slums that no cared about.”
* KnightOfCerebus: Medusa singlehandedly plummets this story into DarkerAndEdgier territory by putting the main cast in mortal danger and making their limitations painfully obvious.
* LackOfEmpathy: A raving sadist, her undoing stems from her inability to treat others as more than tools.
* LaserGuidedKarma: [[spoiler: The [[TheChessmaster cunning]] ManipulativeBastard Medusa Gorgon who [[JokerImmunity cheated death]] a few times and [[KickThemWhileTheyAreDown exploited people]] was OutGambitted by her supposedly inferior sister, Shaula, and butchered by her child, Crona, when she was weakened. All that led to a definitive death and her soul taken.]]
* LetsGetDangerous: Taunting and face-distorting Slasher Smiles are her forte. So when she stops doing either of them, you really have let the monster out. [[PluckyGirl Kim’s]] persistence pushes her buttons one too many times. This extends to her final fight with Crona; she still barely does either.
* LovesTheSoundOfScreaming: When the protagonists fall in a pit during TheMaze, she internally remarks on how "lovely" their screams are.
* MakeAnExampleOfThem: With Ouroboros, Medusa intended to use Maka and her friends as examples as part of a demoralization attempt to instill chaos and self-destruction within the Academy.
* MeaninglessVillainVictory: [[spoiler: Thanks to Tadpole Jackson, she successfully disposes of the crystal ball Tsuji and Caius were tasked to retrieve to give the heroes a fighting chance. In addition, Kim is on the verge of collapse and defeat herself as Free occupies a tiring Kid. For all intents and purposes, she’s won…. then Shaula’s own gambit activates, breaking the curse within the crystal ball despite it being lost. In the end, nobody except her dies.]]
* {{Necromancer}}: [[spoiler: Between her last defeat and now, Medusa learned a forbidden magic spell called Reanimation Magic. It allows one to resurrect a dead or half-dead being, customize it to your liking, and acquire yourself a minion. The trade-off is that said minion loses all of its free will and is stuck in an eternal limbo between life and death. Medusa uses this spell on Atlas as a RedHerring, even giving it back its soul to make sure it is still registered as living to the others.]]
* NeverMyFault:
** In the climactic battle with her, Medusa is irritated to know Eruka and the Mizunes failed her, almost appearing insulted that she gave them "something to do other than waste away their lives" only to fail. Right, Medusa. Their lives were perfectly fine up until you injected snakes to Eruka's body, killed the oldest Mizune sister, and then forced Eruka to lie to get the others behind your cause.
** Similarly, she is livid once she figures out Shaula had a hand in her plans falling apart, acting as if it's the Academy's fault for her younger sister throwing what Medusa perceives to be a temper tantrum. In reality, it's karma coming back full circle because Medusa planned to backstab Shaula ''anyway''.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain:
** She used BREW as the means to forge trust between herself and Lord Death for the attack on Arachne’s organization. The same BREW connects one of Kid’s Lines of Sanzu in the fourth game, ultimately giving him a boost in power. She lampshades the whole situation to herself.
** After Shaula’s catastrophic failure, Medusa tries to take Shaula’s soul to help with Ouroboros but only receives what is assumed to be a small piece of it. She chooses to use it anyway even if it meant losing Atlas’s soul in the process. [[spoiler: It sabotages Ourobros and frees all of the trapped concepts, meaning Medusa’s own malice is the reason why she ultimately loses.]]
* OutGambitted: [[spoiler: Shaula’s not so much of a little sister now, right Medusa?]]
* [[PsychopathicManchild Psychopathic Womanchild]]: A minor example. Medusa seems rather invested in the “games” she forces the protagonists to play, the most [[{{Troll}} childish]] one being a really difficult puzzle. At one point, she even pouts, however mocking it may be.
* RedRightHand: One of her arms and the snake familiar associated with it gets badly burnt during her fight with Kim.
* {{Revenge}}: Pretty much the whole reason she bothered to team up with Shaula and devise her elaborate plan is to demoralize the Academy and then ultimately make it submit to her. Crona’s shadow suggests she intends to move on with an overarching plan, however, once everything is done.
* {{Sadist}}: Her games are meant to punish Maka and the others, and she sets everything up so they can only do the absolute minimum about it. All the while, she sits back and revels in the chaos.
* SiblingMurder: [[spoiler: Medusa attempted this on her younger sister, Shaula. It backfired tremendously.]]
* StarterVillain: Ironically, considering the depth of her plan and the impact she leaves. In any case, Medusa is the first major ArcVillain encountered in the fic that paves the way for the story to deepen, making her a different flavor from the Gemini.
* ShutUpKirk: Takes pleasure in shooting down everyone who dares to badmouth her.
--> <Chapter 27> \
'''Tsuji''': I guess you ain’t got the guts to face us yourself, so you made some elaborate plan or whatever. Well, congrats, Medusa! You’re both a snake ''and'' a coward! \
'''Medusa''': You’re in no position to be giving me lip, Ricardsen. [[WhamLine Especially when I have stripped you of your precious aim.]] \
<Chapter 28> \
'''Shaula''': (''finishes her hate-filled speech'') \
'''Medusa''': Foolish little sister, wasting your final words damning me. \
<Chapter 33> \
'''Kim''': Both the Witch Council and Lord Death pronounced it as outlawed magic! Even the Warlock who created it got executed once the full details were made public! \
'''Medusa''': You of all people should know defying gods is in a witch’s job description.
* TheSociopath: She sees absolutely no value in forming relationships with others unless there is some benefit in it for her and especially if she is the one in charge, she is completely incapable of feeling love in any capacity and only expresses it as a means of manipulation or belittlement, and has no compunctions killing or endangering anyone, from children like the Pot Twins to Eruka to her remaining family, without any hint of remorse.
* TakeOverTheWorld: Her end goal. Her research is catered toward the evolution of the Black Blood to help her develop ways to manipulate Madness itself, with the Black Clown and the Portable Purple Clown being by-products. Kishins are the only entities capable of manipulating Madness and creating one takes too much time and effort, so she sets her sights on Kishin Asura. With the Black Blood, she wants [[FusionDance to fuse and resonate]] with the Kishin via Madness. Why? As she says: “Those who control Madness control the world.”
* ThisIsADrill: Vector Drill.
* {{Troll}}: One of her games is a ''puzzle'' for crying out loud! Right after the gang completes a maze full of death traps.
* WalkingSpoiler: In the context of this fic, you cannot talk about her without essentially spoiling the whole Cobra Island Arc.
* WeCanRuleTogether: Made the offer to Crona after [[spoiler: casually revealing Crona is a [[ArtificialHuman product of genetic engineering]] ]], claiming she is the only one who truly understands what he/she is. Maka and Ragonarok help Crona turn down this offer.
* [[TheManBehindTheMan The Woman Behind the Woman]]: To keep suspicion away from her as long as possible, Medusa exploits Krysa as a figurehead villain until Crona sees through the guise and she is forced to reveal herself. MindControl is seemingly the method.
* WorfHadTheFlu: Medusa isn't at full strength by the time she fights Crona, having had expended some of her magic power and suffered a few injuries including one to the eye. It's excusable because it contributes to her KarmicDeath.
* WouldHurtAChild: Tries to attack the defenseless Pot of Thunder and Pot of Fire in the maze level.
* XanatosSpeedChess: Medusa is an excellent chessmaster, sticking to a nigh-foolproof plan that she revises slightly as others make their moves or progress. Tsuji and Marcellus try to exploit a loophole in her first game, she simply takes away his aim. The group use teamwork to easily get through the maze, so she does the unthinkable to make them fail. Shaula fails to hold her end of the bargain, but it has absolutely no effect on her own designs; Shaula destroying the Academy would simply make it so she wouldn’t have to do it later. Finally, the group splits, the best one coming after her, so she sneaks Free past them and then does her hardest to keep a fighter from going back to protect the weakened people from Free’s wrath.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Tried to pull this on Shaula with a dash of SiblingMurder and YourSoulIsMine. [[spoiler: Medusa ''really'' shouldn't have been so greedy.]]

-->'' “You follow that reaper so blindly that you think you can run anyone that's different from you! Your god sees us as ‘evil.’ Who is he to judge us for who we are?! Wolves, genies, vampires, and many other immortal creatures… Our fate is controlled by human rues. If any of them threatens a human's way of life, they're killed. Then when there's not many Immortals left, they're taken into custody. I don't want a crappy future like that! And it’s not just Death, it’s that damn Witch Council too! They think everyone is beneath them! The whole reason I plucked out Mabaa’s Magic Eye was to teach them a lesson'' and ''be able to fend for myself! No more… Now it's'' my ''turn to judge!” ''

The legendary wolfman. The former prisoner of the Witch Society who took out Mabaa's eye, the Magic Eye. Hails from the Immortal Clan.
-----
* AdaptationalBadass: Free was close to defeating Kid when he had one Line of Sanzu connected. Mind you, the same line was connected when Kid fought Mosquito after he crossed the BishonenLine and sliced Free in half in one shot. Then it took a combined effort of Black☆Star, Kid, and Rowena (though Black☆Star took over from the start) to finally beat him.
* AntiVillain: Surprisingly for someone like Free, he holds a giant chip on his shoulder, yet it's not entirely unfounded. His kind, Immortals in general, are viewed as evil and are summarily killed when one of them threatens a human's way of life. Sure, Free does take pleasure beating up Kid and assisting Medusa because at least he has viable reasons.
* FreudianExcuse: A victim of the Immortal Clan persecution of the Period of Destruction where Lord Death sent his men to eliminate members of the clan because they go against his "rules". Free implies it's because their immorality challenges death. He also harbors something of a grudge against the Witch Society too, blaming them for stuff that happened in the Period of Destruction where they went rampant.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: According to the fic, the reason he attacked and extracted Grandwitch Mabaa's Magic Eye was a mixture of this and PayEvilUntoEvil -- he wanted to teach the witches a lesson and gain power necessary to defend himself against the Immortal Clan persecution during the [[GreatOffscreenWar Period of Destruction]].

A family of witches who use Mouse Magic to merge together or slice things up with their whiskers.
-----
* AdaptationalBadass: The Mizunes, specifically their fully combined form. In the original manga, that form of Mizuna is only seen in a fanservice cat fight with Blair. Here, this is the sisters' most powerful form, and they [[CurbStompBattle absolutely]] ''[[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown destroy]]'' [[BackToBackBadasses Caius and Tsuji]] in the Cobra Island arc.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Mizune is also pretty merciless in her [[CurbStompBattle curbstomping]] of Tsuji and Caius.
* SuperDrowningSkills: She can't swim. Eruka has to bail them out when they were knocked into the water.
* YouKilledMyFather: A line reveals they are still quite bitter over the eldest Mizune's death. It also tragically reveals she has yet to learn the truth behind her death.

[[folder:Ponera Parasite]]

The princess and last living member of the Paraponera Clan and the titular Monotone Princess of her arc. Ponera is a witch whose family and clansmen were killed off during the last phases of the Period of Destruction. Like her predecessors Cancer and Walena who faced similar dilemmas, she harbors an intense animosity for Death Weapon Meister Academy causing this.
----
* ArcVillain: Of the Monotone Princess Arc.
* VillainBall: Ponera gave Killbell a notebook full of info on everyone important in Paraponera because he's forgetful, which Maka takes after she defeats him. This is lampshaded when Noah finds out.

[[folder:Noah]]

The enigmatic strategist of Paraponera who mentored Ponera to be a strong witch, created Demon Tool Soldier Gopher as an assistant, and seeks to collect everything for currently known reasons.
----
* CompositeCharacter: Noah of the original manga and Grimoire of the ''Monotone Princess'' are two separate characters despite similar appearances and themes. This fanfiction's interpretation of Noah takes elements of both characters and meshes them together.
* DragonInChief: Although he's technically subordinated to Ponera, Noah commands just as much respect in Paraponera, carries out their machinations, and bears deeper motives to his machinations.
* EvilMentor: To Ponera. A case where the mentor is more evil than the student.
* HypercompetentSidekick: To Ponera. Noah is stronger and smarter than the naive, inexperienced Ponera to the point it seems like he calls the shots more than her. Furthermore, whenever he answers her, he can reduce her to putty in his hands with a few choice she's madly in love with him.
* ManipulativeBastard: He's using Ponera's feelings for him to his advantage, keeping her under his thumb as he effectively fulfills (or twists) Paraponera's agenda to fit his own whims.
* PsychicAssistedSuicide: A variant. Those people he preached to in the first chapter of Act 2? He used a brainwashing spell to compel them to accept the soul cocoons, effectively rendering them dead.
* TheStrategist: He carefully lays out all the pieces for the organization to follow and is referred as such by Nals.

[[folder: Anel Ying Panderson]]

-->''“Ask yourself this: is there such a thing as a truly evil person? Or are there just evil acts and whether or not the person is forgivable? For example, the Witches who hated and ostracized me were unforgivable but not evil. So, really, what I have done that’s so reprehensible?”''

Initially introduced as a nameless, ineffectual custodian of Paraponera, Anel Ying Panderson is actually a secret member of the group and an apparent associate of Ponera that no one else knows about. A rare male Witch, it's that same distinction that earned Anel vehement discrimination from his dominantly female race members.
----
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: He faced rampant discrimination and misandry as a child simply for being born a male in race that is almost always female.
* AlmightyJanitor: He is literally Paraponera's janitor (and a competent one too) but, unbeknownst to anyone in the group save Ponera herself, is a male Witch who uses SummonMagic, and is powerful enough to hold off Kid and Blackstar long enough for Alone to escape.
* AnimalMotif: Seems to be associated with pandas to some degree, one of his summons is a panda, has Panderson for a last name, and his incantation uses the word four times.
* BadassesWearBandanas: Whether as a janitor and in a combat outfit, he wears a bandana. He was able to HoldTheLine against Kid and Black Star in convincing fashion.
* ChekhovsGunman: Appears a few times as a janitor before his abilities are revealed.
* HoldTheLine: Ponera sends him to delay Kid and Blackstar long enough for Alone to escape.
* MagicalIncantation: ''“Panda panda ailuropoda melanoleuca panda panda.”''
* NeatFreak: He takes his job as a custodian ''very'' seriously, and he shows it through his actions. Every time he's in charge or personally doing the cleaning, you can beat the place is going to wind up ''spotless''.
* TheOneGuy: [[DeconstructedTrope Deconstructed.]] Anel is so far the only male shown in either canon or this fic that is also a Witch (Free is considered a Witch by proxy through his stolen eye). Precisely because of this rarity, he suffered rampant discrimination and ostracism, being viewed as ''too'' different in the eyes of his female counterparts. It's left Anel a stoic, emotionally stunted young man who clings to his loyalty for Paraponera because it's all he's got.
* ReligiousAndMythologicalThemeNaming: All of his summonings so far evoke Chinese mythological figures or animals through name, appearance, or both. Mo is a giant panda, an animal that serves as a famous Chinese icon. The genghuang is a giant, flaming bird said to have originated in the sun and often called a Chinese pheonix. Lei Gong is Chinese Taoist deity whose power is thunder. Gonggong is a Chinese water god or sea monster who is as having red hair and the tail of a serpent. A kirin (or Qilin) is a a mythical hooved chimerical creature often depicted with antlers.
* TheStoic: He'd put the likes of Noel, Azusa, and Marcellus to shame. His expression is perpetually dull, his eyes are described as "bored-looking," and he's a PerpetalFrowner to boot. Then, you realize it may be because bullying and misandry have killed his emotional capacity.
* SummonMagic: He specializes in this kind of magic. Red prayer beads form a necklace around that seemingly contain his summons, and he uses a staff as medium for his magic to bring them out.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Ponera.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: In his battle gear, his jacket is left open to reveal his musculature. Liz doesn't hesitate to point it out.
* WhatIsEvil: While he obviously believes in a concept of right and wrong, Anel doesn't seem to think there is any such thing as a truly evil person; just evil acts and whether or not the person is forgivable.

The mystical force behind the Enchanted Eyes. The "curse" is a collective consciousness formed by the combination of many fallen, formerly human souls who seek retribution against the original creator of the Enchanted Eyes, Voice. Full of anger and hatred, they tempt users of the Enchanted Eyes and formulate situations, psychological or otherwise, that should lead to their doom.
----
* TheAssimilator: Upon leading a person with the Enchanted Eyes to their demise, they [[YourSoulIsMine claim his or her soul]] and make it apart of them.
* TheBadGuyWins: Voice makes it known that the curse has claimed lives before, sometimes one and other times more than one. It is an ongoing war between them, and the curse does win occasionally.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: We, and Tsuji, are led to believe the voices he initially hears within his head are benevolent, trying to put him on the proper path. We also learn just as quickly the curse is doing the exact opposite.
* TheCorrupter: They play upon the negativity in one's mind and engineer scenarios to make owners of the Enchanted Eyes crazier, more reckless, and more menacing. In Tsuji's particular case, they make him believe he is doing the right thing by listening to them, something Noel recommended he do in the first place.
* DemonOfHumanOrigin: This monstrous force used to be a number of separate human beings.
* DrivenByEnvy: One of their motivations. The Enchanted Eyes Curse came into existence because they were appalled that Voice suddenly decided to help humanity whereas they were left to a hopeless fate totally out of their control. So they decided to continue Voice's former mission and torment future keepers of the Eyes because they shouldn't be allowed a freebie.
* DrivenToMadness: The ultimate fate of their original human selves thanks to the Enchanted Eyes being a bad power back in the day.
* EldritchAbomination: A perfectly traditional example. The Curse of the Enchanted Eyes is a collection of many minds and consciousnesses united under a single purpose. Befitting something akin to a force of nature, they are never seen in person and have no known place of residence. The curse is capable of directly affecting certain humans while they are mostly powerless to oppose them.
* GreaterScopeVillain: Not of the story as a while, mind you. Rather, the Curse of Enchanted Eyes is this for the Chicago Gang Arc and acts as the final obstacle in the way for users of Enchanted Eyes, including Tsuji.
* HiddenVillain: Generally speaking, eyes have nothing to do with malevolent entities. Yet, here we are.
* IAmLegion: The plural sense is the most appropriate way to refer to them.
* KickTheDog:
** The curse rubs in Tsuji's first he failed his "test" according to their plan, and his "reward" for that is getting to vomit blood, an act that almost costed Tsuji that was implied to be their doing.
** If that wasn't enough, they immediately tell Marcellus he had a hand in it. Rather uncalled for, especially once we learn the whole history about the curse.
* MergerOfSouls: A conglomerate of formerly human souls with an ''extreme'' amount of hatred.
* MindHive: As they were once individual humans beings, the curse originally were multiple people with distinct personalities. Now, they are a collective consciousness working in unison toward a singular goal.
* NoSympathyForGrudgeholders: The Curse of the Enchanted Eyes are to condemn, kill, and assimilate everyone who gets the Enchanted Eyes because of Voice. They were normal humans who suffered at his hands long time ago. They absolutely cannot let go Voice pulling a HeelFaceTurn and turning into TheAtoner. Nobody else should get off scot-free while they didn't . The curse strives to kill all gifted with the Enchanted Eyes to make Voice suffer. For this reason, Tsuji deems them a bunch of {{jerkass}}es going unnecessary lengths to get revenge and decides to help Voice stop them.
* NothingIsScarier: All this information is learned through dialogue and their actions. We never see their faces or learn where they reside. Other than the stuff you're reading now, everyone else is a blank left to be filled.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: "The Curse of the Enchanted Eyes" is their official name as provided in a glossary about the Enchanted Eyes.
* OutsideContextProblem: The Curse of the Enchanted Eyes are an unknown existence to everyone not named Voice, Tsuji, or Marcellus. They are responsible for the many atrocities and trouble associated the Eyes themselves once Voice retired from the role in the distant past. And nobody believed a "{{curse}}" was even apart of the Enchanted Eyes to begin with, despite intel.
* ThePowerOfHate: They started off as human beings like the rest. They resented their fate imposed upon them by [[RetiredMonster Voice]] so much, that when it sought atonement, banded together, become an EldritchAbomination, gained otherworldly powers and influence and continued exiting on nothing but ''pure hatred''.
* RealityWarper: One of two explanations for how they can affect the real world and certain people, and the more viable option. For starters, the curse turns one of Marcellus's into a lollipop into a means of siphoning Tsuji's blood.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: The other motivation. They aren't going to let Voice forget its sins.
* VillainOfAnotherStory: ''Easily'' could fit into a CosmicHorrorStory, and Tsuji, Noel, and Shannon are only three of the many people they have tried to kill.
* WalkingSpoiler: There is no point in even using spoiler tags; its whole existence is one.
* WasOnceAMan: Actually, they were once an indeterminate number of ''men''.
* AWizardDidIt: The other explanation. How else could they make Tsuji suffer blood loss and make him vomit blood?
