!!Shousuke Samon

A student who regularly summons demons as a hobby. He hates hypocritical people who deny their greed and has focused his efforts on harassing Teshigawara until she caves into her own greed.
-----
* ButtMonkey: Latter chapters makes him become this, being as prone to abuse as Kurzuyuu
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: The Samon in the early chapters is a whole different beast from the Samon of the rest of the series. Early Samon concerns himself with greed way more in the early parts, and he was a PerpetualSmiler with a smug, jerky attitude. By contrast, Regular Samon is more prone to react comedically, is a JerkWithAHeartOfGold and displays himself as such in several chapters, and while he is disliked by many of his classmates he can still talk to them. The only things the two versions have in common are that he's still a jerk, scummy, and hates Tesshi for her seeming hypocritical nature.
** Samon is overall portrayed as a more "evil" character in the beginning of the series; willing to allow a demon to remove one of his classmates' soul just to prove a point to Tesshi.
* CrazyPrepared: Samon always has summoning circles on hand, often going as far as to hide around certain locations in case he needs them, he once carved summoning circles into his shoes so he could summon {{Will O Wisp}}s from his footprints.
* EvilIsPetty: Despite his ability to summon a variety of extremely powerful demons at will, he's content to just use this as a MundaneUtility, and generally annoy others.
* HandicappedBadass: [[spoiler: Later chapters reveal that he is blind in his black right eye, as a result of a duel he had with Nebiros as a child.]]
* HiddenDepths: Scores very high on tests, and he learned multiple languages in his pursuit of demon summoning.
* IdiotHair: He has a large one on the top of his head, which is sometimes referred to as a horn.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Samon may be a jerk and a scumbag, but he does have moments where he genuinely helps out someone with no strings attached. Chapter 30 had such an occasion.
* LetsGetDangerous: Despite his general silliness and tendency to have his schemes backfire, he can be quite the fearsome opponent if provoked.
* MeaningfulName: His name contains the kanji for "gate", a reference to his summoning hobby and "left", possibly referring to how the left is associated with Satan in some cultures.
** [[PunnyName "Samon" also sounds a lot like "summon".]]
* MundaneUtility: Samon often summons demons for daily tasks, such as transportation to school, or talking to cats, which is part of the reason the demon world hates him so much.
* MurderIsTheBestSolution: Samon arrives at this conclusion when he tries to figure out how to cheat at bowling without Nebiros catching him.
* SpeaksFluentAnimal: Summoning the demon Caim allows Samon to do this.
* SquishyWizard: Samon may be a powerful summoner (and very book smart), but he has the strength and stamina of a twig. If he gets cornered into a room with a physically strong enemy (like, say, Rin) he's next to useless.
* SweetTooth: Loves his sugar.
* WaistcoatOfStyle: Never goes anywhere without it.
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: Despite Samon's [[AnimeHair strange pointed hair]], black sclera in his right eye and odd clothes, no one seems to question his appearance.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: When Samon is turned into a child, everyone's surprised with how respectable and sweet the kid used to be. Though when Tesshi eventually meets his mother, she reveals that [[spoiler:Samon underwent a CynicismCatalyst after realizing that his parents' own good deeds and kindness earned them nothing in return.]]
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Samon can summon elder gods, and fight off attacks from demons with a smile, but insects absolutely terrify him.

!!Sakura Teshigawara

The first person to talk to Samon when he arrived. She gained a reputation as an angelic person when she caught a car sick student's vomit in her hands. As a result she is well loved by the entire student body except for Samon.
-----
* BewareOfTheNiceOnes: She may have a reputation as an angel but even she has her limits.
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: Her kind and selfless nature is the reason Samon hates her, and has caused her to resist the many temptations of the demons Samon summons.
* InstantFanclub: Gained one of these as a result of her "angelic" personality.
* LovedByAll: She's loved by the entire student body, which allowed her to be elected as class president.
* MeaningfulName: The kanji for the first few characters in Tesshi's last name can also be read as "a field of angels". With her extraordinarily kind personality, it's a perfect fit.
* NiceGirl: The main reason she's so popular.
* ShipTease: She's implied to have feelings for Samon at certain points in the story. Most notably, her opposite-acting shade directly tells Samon that she hates him (which confuses him a lot).
* ShutUpHannibal: When Samon prompts her to say her true feelings when he refuses to help save her friend, she interrupts his usual spiel and tells him to shut up.
* SupportingProtagonist: The story is mostly from her perspective but Samon tends to be the face of the series and the focus of all the shenanigans.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Chicken-wings. It's one of the only things that she'll be very greedy with, and dangerously so, but Samon never thinks to capitalize on this.

!!Kai Kuzuryuu

A student who initially approached Samon to use his demons in order to make money, he became his closest friend due to his greedy and selfish personality being the type Samon likes.
-----
* ButtMonkey: Takes the most abuse in the series.
* FlowersForAlgernonSyndrome: One chapter has him gain immense intelligence to pass finals, only for him to miss the test and [[StatusQuoIsGod regain his original intelligence by the end of the chapter.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: When he's not the butt of the joke, (even when he is sometimes) he can be seen making snarky remarks about others.
* PunnyName: Kuzuryuu is often called "trash" (because ''kuzu'' in Japanese can mean "trash"). He and Samon are often called the "scum duo" or "trash duo".
* SupremeChef: Samon pays him to make him lunch, and he manages to replicate a chicken-wing flavored pudding that he had one bite of by reading the label and lots of trial and error.
* UnsympatheticComedyProtagonist: While Samon likes to bring out people's vices, Kuzuryuu is already someone who is open about his vices.
* ZanyScheme: He often comes up with ideas to use Samon's demon summoning abilities for his benefit.

!!Kotori Kago

An underclassman who initially wasn't able to spend time with other students due to the pressure of her EducationMama. Samon helps her to go against her mother's wishes and do what she wants.
-----
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Can copy any skill after watching it once, making her the most desired student by the various clubs of Solomon High.
* InstantExpert: She can immediately pick up any skill if she watches someone do it first.
* MeaningfulName: The name "Kotori" means bird, while "Kago" is a play on the word for cage, referencing how her mother has her in captivity.
* MoralityPet: She is the only person Samon is unambiguously nice to all the time.

!!Masayoshi Harae

An exorcist who arrives at Solomon High, in a similar manner as Samon. Due to their contrasting professions they often get into fights or arguments. [[spoiler: He mostly resents Samon for abandoning the Samon family exorcists who trained them both, and for bullying him once he became a summoner.]]
-----
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: He didn't even mention salt in his introduction, while salt piling, and a general fondness for salt, would become a much more prominent part of his character later.
* {{Determinator}}: In a dodgeball match with Samon, he continues to play even after the court is flooded with boiling water.
* EvilCounterpart: Harae is this to Samon, though he's more of a [[InvertedTrope good counterpart]]. He's a transfer student who gave a similar class introduction as Samon, and wears a [[TransferStudentUniforms different uniform from the other students,]] only he's an exorcist.
* InSeriesNickname: He's often called "salt pile" by the other students for his tendency to place salt piles in corners to ward off demons.
* WhamLine: Harae delivers one regarding Samon's past in chapter 26.
--> [[spoiler: '''Harae:''' "I used to study the same profession together with you. I was a pupil of the distinguished family of exorcists that you abandoned to be a summoner, the Samon family!"]]
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Despite his skill as an exorcist, he's extremely scared of ghosts.
[[/folder]]

!Demons
[[folder: The Six Pillars of the Red Dragon]]
!!Lucifugus

The first of the six pillars, making him one of the highest ranking and most powerful demons of the Christian religion, as well as the holder of Hell's treasury... or at least he was. While he still holds his rank, a recent obsession with anime has led him to collect otaku items instead of treasures, as well as become an anti-social recluse.
-----

* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He's one of the least intimidating characters in the series, but when he has the right motivation he's still one of the most powerful demons in the cast. Although after not fighting for so long he tires out easily as well.
* KatanasAreJustBetter: Although Raikiri was the best choice to fight an opponent with [[ShockAndAwe lightning powers]], Lucifugus admits this was the reason he chose it, and continues to use a katana as his weapon despite having access to many of the greatest weapons in history.
* NoSocialSkills: Rivals even Anri in this aspect, the poor guy can barely hold a conversation.

!!Satanachia

The second of the six pillars, in addition to her status as captain general of hell, she's also a highly popular leader in fashion and lifestyle of demon women, and is even called the "goddess of women".
-----
* AffectionateNickname: She's called "Nakki" by Agaliarept.
* BenevolentBoss: In her first appearance she and Agaliarept throws a surprise party for Nebiros for his efforts in defeating Samon [[InnocentlyInsensitive even though he's been extremely unsuccessful.]]

!!Agaliarept

The third of the six pillars and commander of hell, despite his rank, he is a very cheerful and easy going person. His power allows him to reveal all secrets.
-----
* BoringButPractical: The power to reveal secrets isn't useful in battle, it's not flashy, and doesn't require any particular ritual either, however the fact that he can instantly and effortlessly uncover any hidden information almost makes it a StoryBreakerPower.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: When trying to convince Nebiros to relax, he points out that even though he's working hard at stopping Samon from his excessive summoning.
* MundaneUtility: In his first appearance, he uses his power to perform card tricks. Everyone watching knew what his power was, so no one was impressed.

!!Nebiros

The fifth of the six demons serving under the red dragon Astaroth, making him No. 8 of hell and overseer of the demonic army. He spends most of his time on Earth, trying to prevent Samon from summoning numerous demons, and protect humans from his antics.
-----
* BadassLongcoat: Often wears one in his usual outfit over formal wear.
** [[spoiler: In his demon form, he gets an even more impressive one that appears to be made of black flames.]]
* DarkIsNotEvil: Despite being a demon [[spoiler: and having one of the most intimidating appearances in his demon form]] he's one of the kindest members of the cast.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Despite his high rank and power as a demon, he's treated very poorly by the other members of the cast.
* ForcedTransformation: He's forced to take the form of a cat for a while, but in that form he's actually more effective at correcting Samon's behavior than he ever was as a human.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: During his debut, Tesshi notes that his overall noble personality and contrast with Samon makes him more of a traditionally heroic protagonist.
* MustHaveLotsOfFreeTime: Has the appearance of an adult and spends most of his time with high school students, Samon lampshades this at one point.
* {{Necromancer}}: His power allows him to summon the souls of the dead, which he uses to conjure Will-O-Wisps similar to Samon.
* TheRival: Proclaimed by Samon, at least, but holds water since Nebiros is constantly at war with him for constantly borrowing high level demons and making a laughing stock out of him.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Samon's Allies]]
!!Angra Mainyu/Anri

An ancient goddess who used to bring disasters in the form of plagues and other pestilences, but recently she's only been creating various strains of flu due to advances in modern medicine. She spent most of her time alone, with very little social interaction before Samon summoned her and became her friend.

* PowerIncontinence: Due to being a goddess of pestilence, her very presence can cause people to fall ill.
* UnknownRival: Considers Tesshi her unofficial rival in love for Samon's heart. However, Tesshi doesn't even see it that way.
* {{Yandere}}: She's completely in love with Samon after he became her OnlyFriend, and torments Teshigawara in her introduction because she believes that she has "tempted" him. This is downplayed in her later appearances.

!!Behemoth

A demon who can induce hunger in it's victims that takes the form of an elephant. One of the demons most frequently summoned by Samon.
