[[folder:Hell and Demons in general]]
* AlienBlood: The colour of blood varies from demon to demon.
** Demons who were sinners in life have a wide range of blood colours, like pink for Angel Dust.
** Imps and other natural demons are shown to have black blood in ''Helluva Boss''.
* AlwaysChaoticEvil: [[DownplayedTrope Downplayed]]. Sinner demons don’t turn more evil once they end up in Hell, but due to the fact the overwhelming majority among them are there ''because'' they were terrible people in life, it's [[TheChainOfHarm largely a self-reinforcing pit of misery]], and even the demons who want to be redeemed note that [[IveComeTooFar they feel they're in too deep to be successfully redeemed]] (like Angel Dust). Hell only encourages their worst character traits as a result, with [[VirtueIsWeakness demonkind commonly regarding virtue as a weakness]], leading to the demons that aren't evil or just straight-up jerks being counted down on one hand (Charlie, Vaggie, Mrs. Mayberry and Beelzebub). Also {{Deconstructed|Trope}} - the prologue implies that Heaven views them this way because [[HolierThanThou they dared to go against God's plan]], with the continuous oppression resulting in a case of ThenLetMeBeEvil. This is made worse by the fact that, as revealed in “Welcome in Heaven”, [[spoiler:the system determining whether a soul goes to Heaven or Hell is completely opaque to everyone, Heaven included, so without being able to actually know what qualifies a soul being able to enter Heaven is like winning a metaphorical lottery. Angels assume that whoever goes in Heaven or Hell must deserve it, regardless of their behavior in their past or afterlife.]]
* AnimalisticAbomination: Many demons have animalistic features, based on their personalities and the nature of their sins. Among others, Angel Dust is a spider, Alastor is a deer, Sir Pentious is a snake, and Husk is a feathered winged cat.
* AssholeVictim: A group-wide example. While some demons [[MySpeciesDothProtestTooMuch avert or downplay this]], the vast majority of sinners are in Hell because they legitimately deserve to be there. Things like rapists, murderers, gangsters, con artists, and various other types of horrible people are very common among Hell's population. As such, it is hard to feel bad for a lot of them when they routinely get wiped out by the Exorcists' purges or otherwise killed and harmed by one another.
* BlessedWithSuck: Unlike natural born demons, sinners are for the most part immortal and can die without suffering any major consequences (the only way to permanently kill them is with Heaven-forged weapons). On the other hand, sinners can’t have children and can’t leave the Ring of Pride, meaning that whenever the extermination happens, they have no way to escape to the other Hell’s Rings, and are forced to hide and pray Exorcists won’t find them. Their immortal lives are also spent trapped in a perpetual cycle of violence and abuse at the hands of other Sinners, especially if they sold their souls to Overlords, becoming the latter’s source of power, which, according to Husk, is very common. And lastly, but not least, if they are “killed” without an angelic weapon, they simply remanifest in Hell after some time, although it’s said to be a very painful process.
* CardCarryingVillain: The residents of Hell are almost all damned souls, sent to the Inferno for their actions in life, and they ''know'' it, some even taking pride in it. Many openly mock Charlie's hopes that they can become better people and ascend to Heaven, despite the potential consequences of ''not'' doing so. And then there’s Sir Pentious, who outright calls himself evil.
* TheChainOfHarm: It's never discussed in the pilot episode, but [[ImpliedTrope it's essentially confirmed]] to be the core of Charlie's desire to redeem demonkind. [[EasyRoadToHell If you somehow weren't a terrible person when sent to Hell]], [[TookALevelInJerkass chances are you'll become one due to the toxic cesspit Hell lends itself to being]]. Charlie's parents genuinely loving her and raising her well, [[ParentsAsPeople warts and all]], are a major factor into her being an exception to the rule, on top of being a native-born demon. In fact, Charlie's desire to have the Hazbin Hotel succeed is her attempt to [[DefiedTrope defy this trope]] and [[BeyondRedemption one other]].
* CompleteImmortality: Sinner demons, being human souls, can be temporarily injured and mutilated, but cannot be killed by ordinary means and will gradually regenerate from all harm, although it’s extremely painful for them. The only thing that's been shown to be able to actually kill a Sinner is [[ImmortalBreaker angelic weaponry]], which creates a black-market demand for scavenged remnants left over from yearly exterminations.
* DeadToBeginWith: Since the show takes place in Hell, the vast majority of characters are deceased humans who have become demons.
* DealWithTheDevil: Demons are able to enter magically binding contracts with one another, sealed with a handshake, where either party can sign away their possessions or services up to and including their very soul.
* DeathIsCheap: Sinners cannot die unless by angelic weapons, so killing them under normal circumstances is more of a minor inconvenience. At one point, Valentino dismembers Velvette's best model to which Velvette angrily points out that "the show can't wait for that unlucky bitch to pull herself back together". On the other hand, it’s said to be a painful experience.
* DemonOfHumanOrigin: The majority of demons that appear in Hazbin Hotel are Sinners, human souls damned to Hell.
* EasyRoadToHell: [[ZigZaggedTrope Played with]]. On the one hand, small things like watching porn and being a screaming baby ''[[ExactWords could]]'' land you in Hell. ''Helluva Boss'' shows that someone can be a good person their entire life and still go to Hell for committing a single crime. [[ShowDontTell On the other hand]], given the [[AlwaysChaoticEvil overwhelming majority of Hell's population are pretty terrible people]], it's implied that it's less you committing the crimes so much as it being a catalyst of existing morality to begin with -- [[ShapedLikeItself and that trigger overwhelmingly defaults to people who were pretty shit in life, one way or another]]. People like Lyle Lipton shows that Heaven isn't against the idea of taking people who are unpleasant but did no direct wrong by their standards; it's rather the combination of being an asshole on ''top'' of actively acting on that assholery that leads to damnation. It's a major reason why the overwhelming majority of demonkind tend to be assholes; if they weren't people who were terrible, they've done something terrible in life to each other. "Welcome to Heaven" reveals that [[spoiler:not even Heaven has any clue as to what gets a soul in or not when Adam lists a set of conditions when Charlie puts him on the spot, and Angel Dust fails to get in despite meeting every one of them.]]
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Apparently. The poster for [[BlackComedyCannibalism Jeffrey Dahmer's cooking show]] in the broadcasting room has a sticky note attached to it reading, "[[WhoWritesThisCrap Who APPROVED this show?]]" as if even the denizens of ''Hell'' don't want much to do with Dahmer. Vivziepop explained that the sinners in Hell act basically like criminals locked in jail. Most of them still have some standards for morality, and will attack and kill people who have committed incredibly heinous crimes.
* EvilIsSterile: PlayedWith. According to [[https://youtube.com/watch?v=fvEU9NOokPM&t=13355 a Q&A]], sinners who've died and become demons can't have children as an added part of their punishment. Demons who're naturally born in Hell like Charlie and Imps however can have children.
* EvilVersusEvil: Hell is frequently engulfed by violent turf wars between territorial crime lords like Sir Pentious and Cherri Bomb, both of whom are villains in their own ways. Considering it's '''Hell''' and nearly everyone is a damned sinner, every violent conflict between demons is technically an example of evil vs. evil. These conflicts are apparently commonplace enough for Katie and Tom to report it on the news in the same tone as you would a traffic backup or troublesome weather.
* FantasticCasteSystem: Hell has something of an unofficial caste system [[AsskickingLeadsToLeadership based on fear and power]] whose basic structure is [[https://youtube.com/watch?t=7053&v=9QsqHdfVx_8 detailed here]].
** Lucifer is the king of Hell due to the immense power that being a Fallen Seraph gives him, followed closely by his wife Lilith.
** Charlie is below him as she is his heir.
** Below her are SevenDeadlySins who each rule their own ring of Hell of which Lucifer is also Pride.
** Below them are [[Literature/ArsGoetia the Goetic Demons]] like Stolas who appear to hold many aristocratic positions and own property in all of the Rings of Hell, placing them above the Overlords, whose influence is restricted to the Pride Ring.
** Beneath them are the Overlords, who are Sinner demons that manage to acquire great power and carved out their own territories in the Pride Ring with it.
** Beneath them are the ordinary Sinners, human souls damned to Hell.
** Under them are all the other natural Hellborn demons, specific species of which correspond to specific rings of Hell, such as the [[SuccubiAndIncubi succubi, incubi]] of the Lust Ring. Unlike Sinners, who are all confined to Pride, Hellborn are permitted to freely move between the rings of Hell and intermingle.
** And at the bottom are the imps and hellhounds, a specific subset of Hellborn demons, who seem to lack the power of other demon types and are basically Hell's working class.
* HadToComeToPrisonToBeACrook: An afterlife example, with Hell being the prison in question. While there are many Sinners who are unrepentant jerks at best, or irredeemable monsters at worst, there’s also a “third category” made of damned souls who are actually more reasonable if treated with respect and kindness, and turns out to be good people who are forced to sin due to circumstances beyond their control, or to survive in a society where everything, from other demons to angels, is trying to destroy them. [[spoiler: With TheReveal that the rules that judge whether a soul goes to Heaven or Hell are completely unknown even for the higher-up angels, with the latter not even trying to question them nor at least to check them out of fear of becoming fallen angels like Lucifer, there are the ugly implications that many “more innocent souls” that could potentially get eternal salvation are doomed to unjustifiably suffer, or to die permanently during the Exterminations for random reasons nobody even knows.]]
* InformedSpecies: Most demons are ostensibly {{Animalistic Abomination}}s, but most such instances, especially among the major characters, simply resemble humans with demonic features, their AnimalMotifs being almost indiscernible if you haven't been directly informed.
* JerkassHasAPoint: After Charlie sings about her plan to redeem sinners in the pilot to all of Hell, they all laugh at her for it since none of them believed she could actually get it to work with how she thought about going through with it. Sure enough, five months of doing her ideas for trying to redeem sinners does nothing at all, making Charlie realize that she needed to change her approach.
* KryptoniteFactor: Sinner Demons are extra resilient. They can be crushed, shot, and beat all the time and it doesn't kill them. The only way Sinners can really die is by being killed by Exorcists or angelic weapons like their spears. This has been harnessed by the demons themselves, who have created a black market out of scavenged angelic weaponry.
* {{Manchild}}: Having died as adults doesn't stop many of the sinner demons from acting immature, childish or silly. Angel died at 37 and still acts like a rebellious teenager, while Niffty died at 22 and both looks and acts like a little girl. Even Vox, an Overlord with his own media empire, throws what amounts to a massive temper tantrum when he hears Alastor has returned and draws a stick figure of him surrounded by juvenile insults like "smelly probably", "dumb hair", "gross hoof feet" and "triangle ass".
* NormalFishInATinyPond: The main form of leadership in the Pride Ring are powerful sinner demons known as Overlords, who rank in the middle of Hell’s hierarchy. The Ars Goetia and the Seven Deadly Sins exceed them in strength, and above them are Lucifer and his family. They don't tend to involve themselves much with the politics of sinner demons, though.
* ObviouslyEvil: Most of the residents of Hell are visibly demonic, and most of them engage in -- indeed, ''revel in'' -- sinful evil behavior. Hell itself is full of gambling shacks, porn studios, and places that sell hard drugs. Sir Pentious even outright cackles about how evil he is.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Many of the demons died decades or even centuries ago, but look as young as they were in life. Hellborn demons have longer lifespans than humans and also mature more slowly.
* OneWingedAngel: Many demons have shown the ability to turn into a more monstrous and powerful version of themselves; Angel Dust is able to sprout more arms in combat, and Katie Killjoy shapeshifts into a multi-armed, insectoid shape when she fights with Charlie. Both Charlie and Alastor also show their more monstrous shapes in brief glimpses.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: [[https://youtu.be/7Og-fDrHfQE?t=13995 When sinners arrive in Hell, they make up their own Demon names]]. Rarely are they addressed by their original names, mostly because revealing their true names is a sure way to get their name eternally bounded in a DealWithTheDevil.
* OurDemonsAreDifferent: At its most basic, there are two types of demons: Sinners and Hellborn. Sinners are deceased humans who have turned into demons, and show the most variety in their individual appearances. Their demon-form is determined by their personality, the type of sin they committed and the way they died. Hellborn demons can be divided up into the native species of Hell's rings, aristocratic families, the Seven Deadly Sin demons, and at last, Lucifer's family.
* ScaryTeeth: Most demons are drawn with mouths full of razor-sharp chompers, which make for great {{Slasher Smile}}s.
* SelfInflictedHell: There don't appear to be any torture chambers or direct punishments in this version of Hell. Instead, it's a place where you can indulge in all your vices (drinking, drugs, gambling, sex, violence, etc.) to your heart's content, the implication being that continuing to do this is what keeps you ''in'' Hell. There's also the matter of being constantly surrounded by terrible people in a place that encourages and rewards all their worst traits. It makes it extremely hard to be a decent person yourself if you don't want to be victimized or killed.
* SlasherSmile: Practically every demon is seen sporting this expression at one point or another. Even Charlie, the nicest person in Hell, flashes one in her more demonic form.
* TooDumbToLive: The sinner demons in the pilot episode that try to slash Charlie with hatchets, in spite of knowing she's the daughter of Lucifer. They are incredibly lucky that [[NiceGirl Charlie]] doesn't like hurting others nor that Lucifer was around to see it.
* UndeathlyPallor: Many sinner demons have ashy grey skin, including Alastor, Mimzy, Carmilla, and the residents of Cannibal Town.

!!The Royal Family
The top echelon of Hell's caste system and its most powerful members.
----
[[folder:The Royal Family in general]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hells_royal_family.jpeg]]
* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: Played with.
** Despite being the top echelon of Hell's hierarchy, their ''titles and official position'' as royalty get very little actual respect from Sinners due to Sinners in general being mostly irreverent jerks at best and power-hungry maniacs at worst. If anything, the Overlords get far more respect from Sinners due to their greater presence in everyday life, providing many resources and entertainment like social media, the internet, TV, porn, and weaponry, while the Royal Family have a comparatively more "hands-off" approach when it comes to ruling Hell. However, while their titles in and of themselves don't inspire respect, the fact that the royal family are [[RankScalesWithAsskicking easily the strongest beings in Hell]] does, so demons will show deference to Lucifer and Lilith anyway out of fear.
** The exception to the above is Charlie, who's too nice to throw her weight around and thus gets disrespected without fear. Even then, while the vast majority of Sinners don't respect or fear her, savvy demons still recognize Charlie has a lot of latent power and that it's best not to wake the sleeping giant. Making it more of a case-to-case basis as to who will show deference to her.
*** [[AffablyEvil Rosie]] treats Charlie with the utmost respect and acknowledges to Alastor that "like her daddy, she is madly powerful", and that anyone who "stick[s] with her, [they'll] be on the winning side."
*** Similarly, Vox realizes that any Overlord that works with Charlie now has a powerful ally, and treats the idea of Alastor making any kind of deal with her with a lot of concern and trepidation.
*** Alastor similarly laughs at Charlie's naiveté and thinks her goal of redeeming sinners is ridiculous and believes they had their chance and wasted it. But even he's smart enough to keep his torment of her to simple teasing and trolling and not outright threats like he does with Husk in "Dad Beat Dad", as he very much knows Charlie could end him in a snap if she's truly angered.
*** Even Valentino, whose initial reaction to Angel Dust moving into the Hotel [[DidNotThinkThisThrough was to go in guns blazing to get him back,]] realizes that he can't directly fight Charlie once he has a cooler frame of mind. He has to resort to abusing and gaslighting Angel Dust in private in order to get Charlie out of his studio after [[NoOSHACompliance she accidentally starts a fire there.]]
*** Carmilla Carmine is completely indifferent to Charlie's title, as demonstrated when Vaggie attempted to use Charlie's status to get Carmilla to aid the Hotel against Adam's attack. She only began to budge once Vaggie pointed out that this time, the Exorcists won't stop until they eventually reach and kill the rest of Hell. Even then, Carmilla only agreed to aid Charlie's defense efforts after Vaggie won her respect through a sparring match and only provided weapons, not manpower.
** There's also the fact that the Royal Family does seem to garner respect from the Goetia aristocracy and the other Seven Deadly Sins. Really, the only people in Hell that don't respect them are the Sinners and the Hellborn demons too low in the social hierarchy to ever interact with them.
* EveryoneLovesBlondes: All three family members sport blonde hair and are considered very attractive in their own ways.
** Lucifer's charm and PrettyBoy looks got Lilith to fall in love with him. He even implies or jokes in the Season 1 finale that Eve considered him to be attractive. Mimzy and Niffty are instantly attracted to him too.
** Lilith is the first women ever created and is also one of the most beautiful women in the series with a voluptuous body and long feminine hair.
** Charlie is very cute and pretty. So much so that that [[DirtyOldMan Adam]] refers to her as "Lilith's little hottie". Valentino even creepily calls attention to her "pretty blond head".
* RankScalesWithAsskicking: They are the highest members of Hell's caste system due to being its rulers and are also its most powerful beings. Showcased in the Season 1 finale where both Lucifer and Charlie are the only ones who are able to truly challenge [[spoiler:Adam, the latter of whom managed to beat the already powerful Alastor.]]

A demon in a stylish white and red suit, reminiscent of a circus ringmaster, Lucifer is the ruler of Hell and Charlie's father. He's also the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins, the powerful demons who each preside over their own ring of Hell. Lucifer's personal domain being the Pride Ring, the place where all sinners end up.
----
* ActionDad: In the Season 1 finale, he finally shows how powerful he really is by beating the ever-loving hell out of [[spoiler:Adam for daring to hurt his precious daughter and even transforms into his OneWingedAngel form to beat him up again.]]
* AdaptationalHeroism: In Literature/TheBible, Lucifer was a once good angel who rebelled against God and Heaven due to his arrogance and pride and after [[FallenAngel falling]] became a malevolent ManipulativeBastard who tempted Adam and Eve into eating the fruit of knowledge and then continued to tempt their descendants into performing evil deeds. Here, Lucifer's backstory frames him as a "rebellious dreamer" who simply wanted to share the gift of free will with humanity, only for it to go horribly awry, and whose views were shunned not because he was an arrogant traitor, but because [[TheEvilsOfFreeWill Heaven's elders viewed any form of free will and independence as "wrong"]]. Even after being banished from Heaven, he is not portrayed as a malicious ManipulativeBastard, but instead just a depressed ruler. To be perfectly fair, this ''could'' just be how [[UnreliableNarrator Lucifer and/or Lilith]] tells the story, but it lines up with other things shown throughout the series, including Lucifer's own characterization as a NiceGuy BumblingDad.
* AffablyEvil: He is the king of Hell and rules his subjects through fear and power, but once you get to know him, he’s a mostly polite, friendly, and dorky dad who loves his daughter and wants to do his best to win her approval. If the Yelp reviews he shows Charlie are legitimate, Lucifer also holds up his end of the bargain in every DealWithTheDevil, the costs notwithstanding.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Even before he [[FallenAngel fell]], Lucifer was considered a troublemaker by the Order of Heaven because his creative thinking that went against their rules for the holy place. In present, while Lucifer still has some pull in Heaven to help out Charlie, he's remembered as a cautionary tale among other angels not to disobey the strict guidelines of Heaven.
* AllPowerfulBystander: He's a fallen seraphim of a comparable rank to Sera and Emily and depending on how closely he hues to the biblical story, is the most powerful of all the angels. This makes him arguably the most powerful being in the series, who is more than a match for your average Exorcist or Adam. However, a combination of the deal he struck with Heaven to protect (relatively) innocent hellborn demons and his own crushing depression after millennia of being exposed only to the dark side of humanity means he's deeply unwilling to step in to interfere with Heaven's actions and actively discourages Charlie from even trying. [[spoiler:He gets involved directly in the season one finale after Adam threatens Charlie, thus breaking the deal and pushing Lucifer's PapaWolf BerserkButton and he absolutely pummels him.]]
* AlwaysABiggerFish: Lucifer, as a former seraphim angel, is the ''BIGGEST'' fish in Hell, overshadowing even the previously untouchable Alastor, who can only annoy Lucifer rather than bully him the way he can with most of Hell's denizens. When the two start trading barbs, Alastor drops his usual classy tone and opts for a [[PrecisionFStrike "Fuck you"]] while Lucifer sneers at him, making him the only character so far to get the last word when talking to Alastor. Lucifer calls himself the "chef" while derisively referring to Alastor as a mere "busboy" to emphasize the gulf in power between them in "Hell's Greatest Dad". While still being a part of the Seven Deadly Sins as the sin of Pride, he outranks even them in terms of power. He finally gets to show off just how powerful he is compared to everyone else, Alastor included, when he arrives at the final battle of season one and [[spoiler:curb stomps Adam.]]
* AngelicBeauty: Lucifer is ''the'' FallenAngel, specifically a Seraphim, and is a PrettyBoy ChickMagnet. He also has a doll {{motif|s}} in his design to reflect his beauty.
* AnimalMotifs: Alongside an apple motif, he has two animal motifs:
** [[FoulWaterfowl Ducks, (and waterfowl in general)]] are some of Lucifer's main motifs. He makes rubber ducks as a hobby, a rubber duck acts as his caller ID on Charlie's phone and it's even implied his true form is [[SwansASwimming swan-like]] (tying into the fact that when we first meet Sera and Emily they look more like birds). While it is a bit hard to notice due to his top hat, he sports a '''duck'''tail [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ducktail haircut]]. This also makes him an allusion to ''Literature/TheUglyDuckling'', as someone who was cast out from his fellow angels for being different, though in Lucifer's case it's less about appearances and more about having revolutionary ideas with unforeseen consequences. [[spoiler:He even turns into a bird at one point when fighting Adam]].
** He has [[SnakesAreSinister snakes]] as a major motif, which makes sense considering the part he played in the Fall of Man. He is briefly shown in the form of a snake when he appears in the StorybookOpening and his hat has a snake coiling around an apple on it. The snake also resembles a worm, to represent the concept of a WormInAnApple. [[spoiler:During his battle against Adam, he briefly turns into a snake a couple of times]]. He also has a forked tongue.
* AristocratsAreEvil: [[https://youtube.com/watch?v=4nbdDgqKCYA?t=4260 In a stream by Faustisse]], they state that there is no public healthcare in Hell because Lucifer doesn't care about his subjects. It's revealed in the show that he ''[[StoppedCaring used]]'' [[StoppedCaring to care]], but has since come to believe that Sinners deserve what they bring upon themselves.
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: Lucifer is the most powerful being in all of hell (and the majority of heavenly creatures) and commands them through his power.
* AstonishinglyAppropriateAppearance: His coat flares out at the shoulders and the bottom, and has two red dots at the back. When seen from behind, it looks like an apple core.
* BadassBoast: Multiple times in "The Show Must Go On," when he shows up to [[spoiler:fight Adam]].
** His first one doesn't have quite the impact it was supposed to:
--->'''Adam''': [[spoiler:Okay, seriously? How many of you ''freaks'' do I have to fight?!]]\
'''Lucifer''': [[spoiler:Oh, I'm the only one that matters. See, you messed with my daughter, and now, I am going to FUCK you!]]\
''(everyone stops fighting, causing StunnedSilence for a few seconds)''
** His next one packs a bigger punch.
--->'''Lucifer''': [[spoiler:''(after sending Adam smashing into the ground from the air)'' YOU COME AT ''ME'', AND MY ''DAUGHTER!'' DON'T FORGET-- ''(punching him in the face with flaming fists)'' --YOU'RE IN ''MY'' HOUSE, BITCH!]]
* BadassInANiceSuit: Lucifer is a total badass who wears a sharp white suit.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He's a kind, polite goofball, but he can afford to be as he's more powerful than almost anyone else in the cast, even the Overlords. [[spoiler:Adam beats everyone who fights him no matter how powerful they are, but Lucifer is able to one-shot him with ease once he's done toying with him.]]
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Lucifer slightly surpasses Charlie when it comes to his silliness and energy. Despite this, he is the literal King of Hell, so he has a lot of power, more so than Overlords such as Alastor and threatening Charlie is a very good way to get yourself erased. Unlike Charlie he has no problem fully unleashing his power and beating the tar out of people.
* BigGood: In the past, Lucifer attempted to be this and it [[CynicismCatalyst ended poorly]]. With some cajoling from [[MoralityPet Charlie]], however, he puts his full support behind the Hotel, becoming this again and being much more suitable in the role than [[MysteriousBenefactor Alastor]], as he genuinely wants his daughter to succeed, [[HopeIsScary despite himself]]. [[spoiler:When the Extermination begins, it's him who ends it with a BigDamnHeroes moment by defeating Adam, and he aids the main cast in rebuilding the Hotel.]]
* BigDamnHeroes: In the season one finale [[spoiler:Lucifer flies in and punches Adam in the face right as Adam is about to kill Charlie. Lucifer then delivers a CurbStompBattle to him.]]
* BigRedDevil: Much less so than his daughter, fitting his FallenAngel motif, but in his most monstrous form Lucifer displays both the tail and horns his daughter shares, with red as a ''secondary'' color--fitting for someone who's still the king of hell.
* BloodKnight: He very clearly enjoys fighting, having the time of his life during his fight with Adam and flashing a ''truly'' horrific SlasherSmile while brutally beating him to a pulp. Considering that he's the literal King of Hell, this isn't really surprising.
* BlushSticker: Charlie has inherited hers from her dad.
* BrokenAce: He is the ''King of Hell'', the most powerful being in that world; and prior to [[FallenAngel his fall]], he was a widely regarded Seraphim angel. He's also a brilliant inventor, successful businessman, and a handsome ChickMagnet. However, his once idealistic view of humanity was [[CynicismCatalyst crushed]] when he was cast out of heaven and forced to see the dark side of the species he had once adored; he also has some ''major'' issues with how Heaven exiled him simply for not following their wishes. Then there's his "split" with his wife, Lilith, his estranged relationship with Charlie, and his battle with depression. When we finally meet him, he's withdrawn and keeping himself together through the creation of bizarre toy ducks.
* BrokenBird: If the StorybookOpening of "Overture" is to be believed, Lucifer was a WideEyedIdealist like Charlie who was seen as an upstart by his elders. Him tempting Eve with the fruit of Forbidden Knowledge was framed as him giving her free will. It was being banished to Hell and being forced to only endure humanity at their worst (the sinners) that made him so cynical and contemptuous of his own subjects. It takes Charlie's own idealism to get him to give things a chance again.
* BrokenPedestal: To Charlie, at least for a few years. Part of why he and Charlie don't see eye-to-eye about the Hotel is because she's mostly informed of the 'how' and 'why' of his slump, but still trying to fix Heaven and Hell like it's not something Lucifer wasted his time on for millennia already. It's not as though he feels any resentment for her over such optimistic notions; far from it. He just feels that whoever she tries to help isn't worthy of her efforts and doesn't want her to get hurt when pointlessly offering charity to lowlives. His realization that, as his daughter, she has the strength he doesn't and can succeed where he failed [[RebuiltPedestal is what makes him turn around and become her most loyal supporter.]]
* BumblingDad: Lucifer's first meeting with the Hotel's crew is very awkward, as he hasn't been following what Charlie is doing up until then and at first can't trust that they can keep her happy. Alastor needles Lucifer over the latter's failings as a parent in "Hell's Greatest Dad" while positioning himself as a better dad to Charlie solely to attack Lucifer's insecurities.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Lucifer is silly, hyperactive and kind of a goofball. He is also the most powerful being in Hell by a wide margin and its ruler. He's also a successful and competent businessman.
* ChickMagnet: Lilith, the first woman and Adam's first wife, left the latter to be with Lucifer. Niffty attempts to creepily flirt with him when they first meet, and Mimzy's first view of him covers him in sparkles like a shoujo manga. And it's implied in the season one finale that he may have seduced Eve, Adam's ''second'' wife.
* ClassyCane: He has a cane that's essentially a pike with an apple on top.
* CompositeCharacter: His role as being a fallen angel who is Lilith's lover makes him one of [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samael Samael]].
* CurbStompBattle: After he appears in the season one finale, [[spoiler:Lucifer makes a complete fool out of Adam, not taking the OriginalMan seriously at all as he runs circles around him while teasing him about cucking him twice. When he attempts to hit Charlie right in front of him, however, Lucifer stops playing around and absolutely ''pummels'' Adam senseless, leaving him a bloody pulp that would have been a smoking ash heap if Charlie didn't convinced him that Adam had enough.]]
* CutenessProximity: His first order of business after giving his daughter a hug is petting [=KeeKee=] and cooing over Razzle and Dazzle for how much "they haven't grown-up."
* CynicismCatalyst: Being cast to Hell and stuck there, only ever able to see the evil of sin as a result of his push for free will has done a number on him.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Lucifer was once a respected Seraphim Angel but was often thought of as a troublemaker by the Order of Heaven because of his creative thinking. And when he gave Free Will to mankind, he accidentally unleashed the spread of Evil and the formation of Hell. He, along with Lilith, were cast out and sent to Hell as punishment. And forced to see the bad side of humanity caused Lucifer's love for the species to collapse.
* DealWithTheDevil: As the literal Devil, Lucifer references the bargains he's made in the past in "Hell's Greatest Dad", where he offers Charlie his help "with a punch of a pentagram" while citing his apparently glowing reviews on Yelp as proof of his abilities. He's ironically on the receiving end after agreeing with heaven to allow yearly cullings of sinners with the caveat that hellborn demons are safe from attack.
* TheDevilIsALoser: He's the "Big Boss of Hell Himself" but is a depressive slump who coops himself up in his room making ducks with a wife who left him and an estranged relationship with his daughter he's very insecure about. Downplayed in that he still wields great power and influence despite this and isn't portrayed as pathetic so much as jaded and depressed.
* DidTheyOrDidntThey: While Lucifer definitely married Lilith, his comments in the season one finale seem to imply that he also seduced Eve at some point as well. It is possible he was just talking about [[TemptingApple the Forbidden Fruit.]] But then he makes porn music sounds and thrusts his hips, heavily implying it was sexual seduction. [[EmasculatedCuckold Naturally, Adam hates him.]]
* DivinelyAppearingDemons: Even after falling from grace eons ago, Lucifer still looks just as angelic as he did before his fall. He has [[GoldAndWhiteAreDivine blonde hair with ivory skin]], wears white clothing, and his [[GoodWingsEvilWings wings are avian instead of chiropteran]].
* DoNotTauntCthulhu: Though it's primarily with the help of his subjects, [[spoiler:Lucifer being [[AlwaysABiggerFish the bigger fish]] in comparison to [[CelestialParagonsAndArchangels Adam]] after Adam dared to attack his daughter is what leads to Adam eventually dying and [[DragonAscendant Lute taking his place]].]]
* TheDreaded: Downplayed. Lucifer is the Devil with a capital "D" and "the most hated being in all of creation" after being cast out of Heaven. Saint Peter panics and shouts "Oh, fuck!" when he learns that Charlie is Lucifer's daughter. However, the denizens of Hell don't seem to be particularly scared of him, with Alastor even trying to annoy Lucifer repeatedly. Adam also doesn't have a problem picking a fight with Lucifer if he has to, [[spoiler:and though that confidence is misplaced as Lucifer thrashes him without even trying, Adam is left more insulted and furious by the beatdown than afraid and continues goading him.]] [[JustifiedTrope Seems justified]] as Lucifer looks like he has a rather high patience and threshold, he seems to be aware he could easily trounce most people in hell [[NotWorthKilling but most of the time he's uninterested in doing so,]] which is why demons have no problem being openly rude with the comments but still avoiding any real physical confrontation.
%%* EveryoneHasStandards: He's not onboard with Charlie's plan of redemption as he ''hates'' the vast majority of Sinners in Hell, believing they are nothing more than violent sociopaths unworthy of ever being saved and that [[BeyondRedemption redemption for them is impossible]].
* TheEvilsOfFreeWill: By present day Lucifer has come to view what Sinners have done with the gift of free will that he gave them with bitter disappointment, feeling that they inevitably disappoint the faith and kindness placed in them.
* ExpectingSomeoneTaller: Given his reputation as the most powerful and baddest demon in Hell, it's understandable that one would think he's a towering, larger-than-life figure. But Lucifer is actually quite short relative to many other demons -- he's somewhere around 5'2, in a world where demons being 8'/244cm wouldn't be seen as unusual. He's even shorter than his daughter Charlie, something Alastor gleefully ribs him over when they finally meet face-to-face.
-->'''Alastor:''' ''[while making a pinching motion with his fingers]'' You ''are'' much shorter in real life.
* FallenAngel: Just like how his namesake in Christian tradition is commonly associated with, he's THE [[https://youtube.com/watch?v=fn_HoRP8DmA&t=6159 fallen angel]]. He gave humaity free will, which got him cast out of Heaven and down into Hell.
* FantasyCounterpartMyth: Unusual in that while Lucifer is [[{{Satan}} an established part of Christianity]], his actual backstory resembles that of [[Myth/ClassicalMythology Prometheus]] slightly more. Notably, both the Literature/BookOfRevelation and Literature/ParadiseLost depict Lucifer as TheStarscream to God whose banishment stemmed from his {{Ambition|IsEvil}} driving him to [[RageAgainstTheHeavens attempt a coup of Heaven]]. Contrast with Hazbin's Lucifer who, like Prometheus, was imprisoned solely for the crime of secretly giving ForbiddenFruit to humanity [[NotQuiteTheRightThing out of sincere generosity]]. {{Unreliable Narr|ator}}ation seems unlikely here; Lucifer has [[AuthorityInNameOnly shown zero interest in power for its own sake]] with a plethora of {{Humble Goal}}s; the exact opposite of the MultiversalConqueror you'd expect.
* FantasyForbiddingFather: He does not approve of Charlie's attempts to change things in Hell, but only because he's afraid that she will inevitably be disappointed by the faith she has in Sinners, and if she attracts Heaven's attention, they'll crush her the way they did him. The end of "Dad Beat Dad" has him coming around and deciding to support Charlie in her dream of redeeming Sinners.
* FascinatingEyebrow: During Adam's furious post-defeat BadassBoast about how everyone from Hell should worship him as they "came from these fucking NUTS!!", compared to everyone else's defiant DeathGlare, Lucifer, who had already effortlessly beaten Adam to near death, just gives a bemused raised eyebrow at such visceral language.
* {{Foil}}:
** To Alastor.
*** Both of them are extremely powerful demons of Hell with a vested interest in Charlie's Hazbin Hotel. They dress finely, command respect, and freely bully those who question them. Alastor is a fast-talking {{Narcissist}} and a ManipulativeBastard who positions himself as a reliable source of help for Charlie solely to get a kick of watching her and the Sinners she's helping fail. Lucifer is a BumblingDad and a StepfordSmiler who is depressed from having his dreams as a WideEyedIdealist blow up in his face eons ago. Alastor calls himself a ParentalSubstitute for Charlie while caring nothing for her personally solely to get under Lucifer's skin. Meanwhile, Lucifer's love for Charlie is genuine despite not being the best parent to her. He's overflowing with affection for her and is constantly worried about her ideals being crushed like his were, resulting in his initial reluctance to support her.
*** Alastor is strongly associated with red and black. His NightmareFace when showing his full power turns him into an EldritchAbomination with CombatTentacles and antlers growing from his head. By contrast, Lucifer's name literally means "lightbringer" and he's associated with white and gold. He can boast about his unparalleled strength in Hell by unfurling his seraphic wings while maintaining a humanoid appearance. Alastor's powers also tend to darken his surroundings, while Lucifer's abilities bathe his surroundings in golden light.
** Lucifer is also this to Sera, as the former and current seraphim of Heaven who have great affection for their daughter/daughter-like figures but have different views of seeing and treating them, and contrasting responses to how their girls [[CallingTheOldManOut call them out for their actions]]. Lucifer was cast down to Hell for defying the natural order and giving mankind free will, suffering from depression after ruling over the worst of mankind for millennia. But while Lucifer was cast out for his mistakes, Sera knows that divine judgment is a broken and unfair system [[spoiler:since no one knows what qualifies one for Heaven]] but maintains the status quo because she's too much of a moral coward to challenge it. Lucifer spent most of his life distant from his daughter due to his depression and initially attempts to dissuade Charlie from continuing the Hazbin Hotel out of fear of seeing her dreams get crushed like his were by Heaven, but after Charlie laments how he doesn't believe in her while others do, Lucifer was willing to swallow his pride and open up to his daughter about his failings and insecurities, allowing them to understand each other better, [[LikeParentLikeChild see them for who they are]], and grow closer to the point where Lucifer begins to fully support her dream and trust her that she can handle herself. Meanwhile Sera appears to be very close with Emily, but has been [[spoiler:keeping the exterminations a secret for millennia]] until Adam mouthed off and left Emily horrified that Sera allowed this, Sera claims that she wanted to [[IDidWhatIHadToDo keep Heaven safe and spare her the burden of making a difficult choice]] and was trying to keep Emily from questioning the system of divine judgment out of fear that she'll fall as Lucifer did, but all this did was drive Emily away in disgust and disillusionment by Sera's secrecy, hypocrisy and LackOfEmpathy towards sinners, accusing Sera of [[CondescendingCompassion talking down to her and treating her like a child all this time]], thereby [[BrokenPedestal ruining their relationship]] because despite Emily's pleas and reasoning, [[BrokenSystemDogmatist Sera still wouldn't rectify her actions or fix the system]] due to [[DirtyCoward her fear of Hell, Heaven's status quo changing, and Emily's judgement]].
** Lucifer is also one to Sir Pentious. Both are EndearinglyDorky {{Sad Clown}}s who put up a bluster to hide their insecurities from years of failures, however while Sir Pentious is a BeneathNotice ButtMonkey with the personal will that Lucifer lost, Lucifer is the BrokenAce at the very top of the chain in Hell with all the power and charisma that Pentious yearns for. Pentious is the first person Charlie genuinely wins over to her redemption plan, and has [[FanOfTheUnderdog her instant sympathy and reverence]] [[EasilyForgiven even after initially duping her]], Lucifer's depression meanwhile has leant to a long-term distant and turbulent relationship with Charlie that he was only recently managed to mend. Both effectively play into Charlie overcoming the Extermination, Lucifer by [[CurbstompBattle effortlessly winning]], Pentious by [[HeroicSacrifice pitifully]] [[SpannerInTheWorks failing]]. Charlie rebuilds the Hotel both from the support of Lucifer and in memory of Sir Pentious. Both are also thematically associated with snakes, but while Lucifer was an angel cast down from Heaven, [[spoiler:Sir Pentious was the first sinner to ascend]].
* AFormYouAreComfortableWith: Similar to the other Seraphim, Lucifer's natural form is implied to be a swan-like creature, based on a hologram he shows a young Charlie. When we see him he strongly resembles Charlie just with much sharper teeth. Like his daughter, he has a true much more demonic form he keeps hidden and only brought out during his fight with Adam.
* GoodParents: Revealed in episode 5 that despite being a little distant, Lucifer deeply loves Charlie and supports her dreams and endeavors. He even has a musical number confirming he loves her more than anything. He also has the common sense to teach his daughter to never take shady deals with other demons.
* GoodWingsEvilWings: He still has his six wings marking him as a former member of the Seraphim. Unlike the current Seraphim's blue wings, the underside of Lucifer's wings is a deep red as a FallenAngel whose dreams sent him crashing down to Hell.
* GreenEyedMonster: Part of the reason why he [[SitcomArchNemesis hates Alastor so much]] is because he is jealous that Charlie seemingly favors the Radio Demon over him, something the Radio Demon dangles over Lucifer's head.
* HanlonsRazor: This Lucifer was not actively malevolent in his early years, and only earned his own banishment and caused the fall of humanity through a well-meaning attempt to make things better.
* HappilyMarried: Pictures in Lucifer's workroom show the family merrily embracing each other and laughing, showing they were all happy in the past. Subverted by the time of the actual show, however, as in episode 5 it's revealed that Lucifer and Lilith have "split" for some reason, and she has been mysteriously absent for seven years, [[spoiler:later revealed to be in Heaven]].
* HateAtFirstSight: He absolutely detests Alastor after only knowing him for about twenty seconds, and [[SitcomArchNemesis the feeling is completely mutual]].
* HatedByAll: As Adam puts it, he's the most hated being in all creation. Heaven detests him till this day.
* HolyHalo: At the climax of [[spoiler:his and Charlie's fight against Adam]], the snake and apple on Lucifer's hat wind around the horns he grows in a parody of a halo.
* HolyHandGrenade: Angels as powerful as Adam showcase the ability to shoot a KamehameHadoken powerful enough to level buildings. Lucifer is implied to be capable of the same and then some [[spoiler:when he prepares to vaporize Adam for coming after him and Charlie, but Charlie stops Lucifer when it's clear that Adam is beaten already.]]
* HolyIsNotSafe: It's been mentioned on one of Viv's streams that angels are more powerful than demons and this still applies to him despite being fallen. This is the reason he became king of Hell [[AsskickingLeadsToLeadership in the first place]].
* HopeIsScary: Over the course of "Dad Beat Dad", Lucifer confides that he was once a WideEyedIdealist like Charlie was, but trying and failing to redeem the Sinners of Hell for countless years gradually wore him down until he lost his ability to dream of a better tomorrow for them. He retreats into apathy toward Sinners to avoid feeling the crushing disappointment of his dreams falling apart. His attempts to get Charlie to abandon the Hazbin Hotel project are rooted in a misguided desire to save her from the same despair. But seeing how [[LikeFatherLikeSon the apple doesn't fall far from the tree]] and her willingness to head straight to Heaven to argue her case inspires him to hope once again, pulling strings to secure her an audience with the Seraphim.
* HumansAreBastards: He does not have a high opinion on humans, given that he and Lilith gave them free will only to be banished to Hell and end up surrounded by the very Sinners who used their newfound free will to make the worst possible choices. Millennia of seeing mankind at its worst has completely soured whatever faith he had in humanity and why he doesn't see the point of Charlie's redemption plan.
-->'''Lucifer''': Sinners are violent psychopaths hellbent on causing as much pain and destruction as they can. There's really no point in trying.
* IControlMyMinionsThrough: '''Fear'''. The people of Hell are mostly jerks who show no respect to any forms of authority, even the royal family. Any deference to Lucifer is born out of fear rather than respect. The lack of respect towards him is partly because he's spent most of his time in Hell being a depressed cynic who doesn't really like being around Sinners and therefore doesn't provide them with much nor really take that active a role in the Pride Ring. Compare that to the Overlords, who the Sinners respect a lot more due to them providing much of Pentagram City's services like electricity, social media, porn, and weaponry. [[spoiler:In the Season 1 finale, however, Lucifer gains a lot more respect from Sinners after he helps in defeating Adam and the Exorcists' assault in the Hotel; effectively cancelling the Extermination. Helped by the fact that he's stated to have a more active role in defending his people.]]
* IronicHell: Quite literally. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0tobM9b_9I Charlie's recounting]] of the origins of Hell and Lucifer's damnation reveals that Lucifer only wanted to share free will with humanity out of a belief they could do great things with it, even if it went against the orders of Heaven's elders. When this decision also allowed evil to exist on Earth, along with a realm of darkness and sin, Heaven punished Lucifer by condemning him to the dark pit he had created, which would henceforth forever bar him from seeing the good in humanity caused by his choice, only able to witness the cruelty and wickedness henceforth. By the present time, it's evidently [[CynicismCatalyst done a big enough number on Lucifer]] that he's "lost his will to dream", which also motivates Charlie to make the hotel succeed.
* {{Irony}}: Despite being the personification of pride, one of Lucifer's biggest foibles is his insecurity over being a proper parent to Charlie. He has a minor panic attack when she calls him out of the blue, hurts her feelings when he tells her that he doesn't think the Hazbin Hotel will succeed, and is crestfallen when Charlie sings about how she barely knows him. Alastor consistently gets under Lucifer's skin by prodding him for being a deadbeat dad.
* IToldYouSo: When Mimzy's actions drive a bunch of [[LoanShark literal Loan Sharks]] to attack the hotel, he is quick (and more than a little smug) to tell Charlie that this just proves his point that sinners cannot be redeemed.
* JadedWashout: Charlie describes him as being a dreamer with fantastical ideas for creation who lost his ability to dream after giving free will to mankind and being rewarded with banishment to Hell, where he'll spend eternity only seeing the results of humanity at its worst. It's also why he's initially so dismissive of his daughter's equally optimistic dream to redeem Sinners.
* JustToyingWithThem: [[spoiler: Lucifer toys with Adam throughout most of their fight, annoying him by transforming into various animals and taunting him about seducing his ex-wives. When Adam tries to pull an InTheBack just after when Lucifer saved his daughter, [[LetsGetDangerous a pissed-off Lucifer]] only needs to BitchSlap backhanded him once to reduce Adam to a broken, exhausted shell on the ground, leaving him at Lucifer's and Charlie's mercy]].
* LightIsGood: Zigzagged. Lucifer was well intentioned when he gave Eve the fruit of knowledge but it caused Evil to seep in the world. While he still far from evil himself, millennia of being around the worst of humanity has made him jaded and cynical. He still greatly loves Charlie and gives her support for her project and gets her an audience in heaven.
* LightIsNotGood: Also zigzagged. Lucifer is the literal Devil who became the king of Hell by force and makes thinly veiled death threats toward people who annoy or may fail him. He brags about the [[DealWithTheDevil deals he's made in the past]] and isn't afraid to throw his angelic power around to get what he wants. But he fell purely because of the consequences of giving humanity free will, not realizing the evil that humans are capable of. He's also a BumblingDad who loves Charlie more than anything in existence and the closest thing the story has to a BigGood once she convinces him to aid her cause.
* LikeParentLikeChild: A whimsical dreamer who wanted to see the best in people and give them a chance to make the right choices, Lucifer is ultimately ''very'' like his daughter. It's actually why he's so protective of her as he originally tried to redeem sinners but multiple failures (not helped by the fact no one actually knows what gets people into heaven) caused him to lose both his faith and his dreams.
* MorphicResonance: His shapeshifted forms retain his color scheme and accessories (hat and bowtie).
* {{Motifs}}: Like his daughter Charlie, he has a doll motif in his design. This can be seen in his red cheek markings, porcelain-white skin, and light purple eyelids that give the appearance of wearing eyeshadow. According to Creator/VivienneMedrano, this is meant to reflect his AngelicBeauty.
-->'''[[https://www.youtube.com/live/sjojinb_md0?si=Afz4kSvpcN6x4gAl&t=8535 Vivienne Medrano:]]''' [Charlie's] supposed to be like a porcelain doll because, like, her and Lucifer … the way I based Lucifer was basically like on the… theology that Lucifer was like, one of the most gorgeous angels in Heaven,[…] that's why I made him really doll-like, that's why they've got, like, their cheeks the way they are.
* MesACrowd: In "Hell's Greatest Dad", multiple instances of Lucifer show up at the same time more than once.
* MrAltDisney: In the ''WebAnimation/HelluvaBoss'' episode "[[Recap/HelluvaBossS1E2LooLooLand Loo Loo Land]]", it is revealed that Lucifer owns a successful theme park named "Lu Lu World", [[CrappyCarnival Loo Loo Land]] being a {{Shoddy Knockoff|Product}} of it.
* MrImagination: He is repeatedly described as a "dreamer", and seems to have a pretty strong creative drive even long after his loftier ambitions have been shattered.
* MrViceGuy: He's a surprisingly NiceGuy for the ruler of hell. It makes sense where Charlie gets a lot of her personality from. However, he's not a perfect dad by any means. Charlie had some DaddyIssues involving him for a reason. [[spoiler: Their relationship does get better in episode 5 though]].
* MyGreatestFailure: The Fall of Man. It may have been an accident on his part born out of a sincere attempt to help the new kids on the block, but it was an immensely costly one that permanently scarred the world. There's a reason the former cosmically ambitious idealist has been a depressed, withdrawn wreck for so long.
* MyGreatestSecondChance: Lucifer is disappointed that the free will given to humans was used for evil, and believes that HumansAreBastards who refuse to redeem themselves due to how many of them end up in his domain of Hell. He outright tells Charlie that the free will given was misused by them, and there is no hope for them, continuing his claim by further undermining Charlie's goals. However, when Charlie makes the offer that she can redeem people, he changes his mind and decides to support her goal to redeem sinners with the titular hotel.
* NeverMyFault: Lucifer despises the sinners of Hell and believes they're a lost cause, even though he was the one to give humans the free will to commit their misdeeds to start with. Granted, he does struggle with a lot of self-doubt and self-resentment, and Charlie is [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre able to convince him he can help turn things around]].
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Lucifer giving humanity free will against the wishes of Heaven turned into a disaster. It led to evil infecting the Earth, the Fall of Man, creation of hell, and the overflowing of sinners. Even Lucifer admits it didn't work out the way he had hoped.
* NormalFishInATinyPond: Downplayed heavily. Lucifer is the most powerful being in Hell, since as a FallenAngel he can not only [[DeaderThanDead destroy demons permanently]], but is seemingly invulnerable to all demonic attacks. This allows him to throw his weight around, keep the populace of the Pride ring under his thumb and keep the likes of the other Deadly Sins from rising up, and he's ''much'' stronger than even a powerful angel like Adam, who he effortlessly trounces in a fight. Later on, however, he's revealed to be a fallen ''Seraphim'', which is made up of several high ranking and powerful angels, putting him in the same class as Sera and Emily. The opening narration demonstrates that there are angels of a higher rank than he is, the Elders of Heaven, who were able to banish him and Lilith to Hell in the first place, so Lucifer is unlikely the sole most powerful being in existence.
* TheNoseless: He noticeably doesn't have a defined nose shape, unlike his daughter Charlie and wife Lilith.
* NoSell: Thanks to being a fallen angel, he's immune to harm from normal attacks - when Adam slams him into a wall, Lucifer's reaction is something akin to "Huh, okay" than any kind of expression of pain, and he's up and moving immediately. In fact, neither he nor his suit take any damage over the course of the [[CurbStompBattle "fight"]].
* OneWingedAngel: His demon form combines his six seraphim wings along with Charlie's horns, eyes and tail with Angelic eyes within his cloak and a ball of fire floating over his head.
* OpenMindedParent: PlayedForLaughs. Lucifer is surprised that Charlie is dating a woman, which reveals to him she likes girls. But he's really excited because he likes girls too and that this gives the two a CommonalityConnection.
* PapaWolf:
** He gave Razzle and Dazzle to Charlie for her protection and when he sees them again, after cooing over how cute they still are, he asks if they've been protecting his daughter, then adds in a threatening voice, '''[[EvilSoundsDeep "You better be."]]''' He also taught Charlie that, "You don't take shit from other demons."
** Shown again in "The Show Must Go On", when he [[spoiler:shows up to help defend the Hotel from the Exorcists. He's content with simply toying with Adam until he tries to attack Charlie, at which point he [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown beats Adam to a pulp]], only stopping when Charlie says that Adam has had enough.]]
* ParentalNeglect: Lucifer loves Charlie more than anything in creation, but he has been largely absent from her life between his depression and Lilith leaving him seven years ago. Lucifer is eager to reenter Charlie's life when she invites him to visit the Hazbin Hotel, but their phone call reveals that he hasn't been keeping tabs on her project and is completely unaware that she's entered a relationship with Vaggie. They finally reconnect while singing "More Than Anything", upon which Lucifer realizes that they have a lot in common, culminating in him agreeing to support the hotel and pulling strings to secure her an audience with the Seraphim.
* ParentsAsPeople: He genuinely loves his daughter and looks out for her safety, but Charlie has nonetheless ended up feeling pretty alienated from her parents.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Not outright shown, since he prefers invention and creation and we only see him fighting to defend and protect his kingdom and his subjects, but the power he regularly displays makes it clear that he could unleash near-unmatched devastation if he chose to. [[spoiler:In particular, he delivers a humiliatingly one-sided NoHoldsBarredBeatdown to Adam, who's definitely a PersonOfMassDestruction.]]
* PintSizedPowerhouse: According to a post-episode six livestream, Lucifer is 5'2, making him short even by human standards- and in a world where demons frequently top ten feet tall, he's definitely on the small side, a fact Alastor needles him about. He's also the most powerful being in Hell by a huge margin. Shown to its fullest when he's up against [[spoiler:Adam, a giant who overpowered Alastor without straining himself who Lucifer makes look like a joke before snapping and nearly vaporizing him.]]
* PlayingWithFire: Like his daughter, he can create hellfire at will and his powers in his full demon form are largely centered around using flames to eradicate his enemies.
* ThePowerOfCreation: Lucifer can create things seemingly out of nothing, poofing champagne fountains and caviar mountains into existence while trying to impress Charlie. [[spoiler:In the Season One finale, he helps rebuild the Hazbin Hotel better than ever by instantly creating building materials and important structures using his magic.]]
--> '''Lucifer:''' Remedial creation for me!
* PrettyBoy: [[invoked]]According to [[WordOfGod Vivienne Medrano]], she designed Lucifer to be a slender, good-looking man as a nod to how his Biblical counterpart was said to be one of the most beautiful of all angels.
* {{Pride}}:
** He's the very personification of it, being the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins and the sin of pride. Although he's still the ''sin'' of pride, so while he's the ruler of Hell, it's because he took it over by and rules by force and declared himself king, and while he loves his daughter, their relationship is strained and he thinks her drive to rehabilitate sinners is beneath her and offers next to no support. His debut episode delves a little deeper into his superiority complex. Having been forced to live with sinners ruining his idealistic vision of free will - combined with Heaven being prejudiced stiffs - for so long, Lucifer has grown tired of everyone else's faults and deemed himself, Charlie, and Lilith as the only people enlightened to the horrible nature of the beast. Meanwhile, he deems the denizens of Heaven as skullduggering cowards maintaining a broken status quo for half-arsed reasons, while seeing sinners as unwaveringly depraved ruiners of nice things. As a rule-breaking Angel whose principles are higher than those of sinners but more lax than those of other Angels, his biggest regret is that few people like him fall outside the jagged paradigms of Heaven and Hell, and he expresses it by living as though acting beyond their boundaries makes his family superior to everyone.
--->'''Lucifer:''' Our people - Charlie - are ''AWFUL''! They got gifted free will and look what they did with it; everything's terrible! [...] You build something nice, you let people in and offer them everything, and they just bring ''violence'' and ''chaos'' to your doorstep. It doesn't matter how well-intentioned you are; they're always going to disappoint you. [...] Sinners are violent psychopaths hellbent on causing as much pain and destruction as they can.
** Fitting for a personification of Pride, he seems to view anything that's a blow to pride as a grievous injury. His reasoning for not supporting Charlie's dream is because he doesn't want her dreams (IE, pride) to be crushed by heaven like he was. During his explanation, he imagines the angels pointing spears at him and then at Charlie, but given that there's no indication the angels ever physically threatened Lucifer with a violent death, the spears could be symbolic of how he sees crushing one's pride as on a similar level. [[spoiler:When Charlie asks Lucifer to spare Adam, he gleefully mocks Adam about being shown mercy, which as Vaggie explained earlier is an utterly humiliating blow to one's pride.]]
--->'''Lucifer:''' How's mercy taste, you little bitch?
* RealityWarper: Like other high-ranking demons, Lucifer seems to be able to manipulate reality in Hell. He throws a suddenly miniaturized Alastor into a frying pan and flips him like an omelet, while offering champagne fountains and caviar mountains created from nothing to Charlie in "Hell's Greatest Dad". He also instantly creates a PocketDimension to fly Charlie around in while singing "More Than Anything".
* RedBaron: Implied. Sera refers to Charlie as the "Daughter of the Morning Star", suggesting that "The Morning Star" is an epithet he gained as an association with his first name which he then co-opted into his last name.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Zigzagged. Assuming you don't do anything to displease him, Lucifer is surprisingly affable and polite as well as a loving, if bumbling, dad to Charlie. On the other hand, he's the king of Hell and the Devil. When he's angry enough for the red completely overtakes his eyes, it's already too late to run.
* RepetitiveName: His full name is meant to be a MeaningfulName concerning how one of many possible translations of "Lucifer" is "The Morning Star"[[note]]others include "Lightbringer" and "Bringer of the Dawn", and they're all epithets for the planet Venus ([[NonIndicativeName which is not a star]])[[/note]], but this winds up meaning that his name can potentially be written as "[[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment Morning Star Morningstar]]".
* RepulsiveRingmaster: Lucifer dresses in an attire that resembles a circus ringmaster and the very hotel that's been provided for Charlie's passion project has circus-themed decor alongside other motifs closely associated with Lucifer. When he shows up on screen and warps things around him, there's frequently a big-top motif. Additionally, there's a recurring circus theme that he and his fellow Seven Deadly Sins apparently share as masters of the rings of Hell. This is evidenced by certain elements seen associated with the demons Mammon, Asmodeus and Beelzebub in ''WebAnimation/HelluvaBoss''. Subverted when we finally meet him as he's actually a well-meaning person who fell into cynicism and depression after millennia of failing to redeem sinners. This puts him in-line with most of the other Sins seen thus far who tend to be powerful but ultimately decent people (with one notable exception). In fact Charlie takes after him with her WideEyedIdealist tendencies.
* RetractableAppendages: He has six wings, which he usually keeps hidden but will pull out when he wants to seem more impressive. [[spoiler:During the battle against Adam, they come out in full force.]]
* TheRuntAtTheEnd: He's an interesting example as it goes in two ways when compared to fellow members of the [[WebAnimation/HelluvaBoss Seven Deadly Sins]] at least so far. Most of the fellow sins are noticeable bigger than other demons whereas Lucifer looks barely shorter than the average person, being even shorter than his own daughter. It also goes into another sense: most of the Seven Deadly Sins are implied to be native born demons from hell itself whereas Lucifer is a FallenAngel from heaven who retains his holy powers. This second aspect actually works on his favor as angels are more powerful than demons and he was a particulary high ranked one which allowed him to easily take over the place.
* {{Satan}}: Aptly named Lucifer, he's the ruler of all of Hell. While there are Overlords and turf wars in Pentagram City, Lucifer is at the very top of the hierarchy as a fallen angel. On a side note, while he may be the Devil in the series, Lucifer isn't Satan, who is actually a completely different demon. According to Viv in [[https://youtube.com/watch?v=PKARLiCRocA&t=2660 a livestream]] and [[https://youtube.com/watch?v=fvEU9NOokPM&t=2610 a Q&A]], the series draws inspiration from a mixture of elements from multiple theologies and among them included is Lucifer, Satan, and Beelzebub being separate characters as opposed to being just the same demon per later religious interpretations and etc.
* SatanIsGood: {{Downplayed|Trope}}. In this version, Lucifer before his fall was an idealistic dreamer who wanted to better creation, and his "rebellion" in Heaven consisted solely of him giving Eve the ForbiddenFruit with well-intentions, which unwittingly led to the pre-existing force of evil finding its way to Earth. Cast into Hell for his reckless action, Lucifer was only exposed to the worst products of the free will that his actions had granted humanity, and though he initially tried to redeem the Sinners in his new realm, he failed and he gave up hope, letting Hell turn into the crapsack WretchedHive that it is today not through active malice but through despair-induced inaction and withdrawal from subjects whom he'd lost all hope for. It doesn't take all that much effort for his daughter Charlie to rekindle his old idealism, letting him become the unquestioned BigGood of the show.
* ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem: As he boasts in "Hell's Greatest Dad", one of the main reasons he's a more effective BigGood then Alastor is that he is the greatest authority in Hell and can effectively do whatever he wants within it.
--> ''I'll rig the game for you because I'm the ref!''
* SelfDuplication: While singing "Hell's Greatest Dad", he creates duplicates of himself to act as his own hype men while singing about how much better he'll be at supporting Charlie's dreams than Alastor.
* SharpDressedMan: Various portraits with him have Lucifer dressed in a very dapper white suit.
* ShownTheirWork:
** Lucifer has six wings, which would make him a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seraph seraph]], the highest order of angel.
** His depression in his debut episode is very accurate to real life as well. He is shown to be forgetful (forgot about Charlie's hotel), prone to hyperfixation and seeking out immediate smaller pleasures (his rubber duck making), has difficulty reaching out to others despite desperately desiring interpersonal connection (not seeking out his daughter himself until she came calling for him despite missing her) and has a heightened rejection complex (his fear of being replaced by Alastor as Charlie's father figure).
* SinisterSilhouettes: After the Exorcists finish their year's duty, Lucifer can be briefly seen in an armchair, completely hidden in shadow apart from his GlowingEyesOfDoom surrounded by an inner circle of demons. You can recognize him by his top hat and apple-topped cane.
* SitcomArchnemesis: He and Alastor. By their reactions, Alastor either disliked Lucifer immediately, or has a history; Lucifer barely noticed Alastor until he became immediately jealous over Alastor's influence over his daughter. They do ''not'' like one another as competing father figures for Charlie and both keep trying to subtly one up the other. In Alastor's case, he doesn't actually view himself as Charlie's father figure, but is willing to play it up to get under Lucifer's skin because he [[BerserkButton felt snubbed by Lucifer dismissing him]].
* SlasherSmile: In one of the family portraits in the hotel, Lucifer can be seen with a smile as wide and sharp as the Radio Demon's. When we finally meet him, he's particularly prone to these, even after he's revealed to be a good person.
* SmallParentHugeChild: He's below average in height and his daughter towers over him at 6 feet or over. Angel calls him "short king."
* StepfordSmiler: Underneath his goofy and utterly joyous personality is a depressed man who gave up on hope and redemption a long time ago.
-->'''Lucifer''': ''[sing-song]'' My daughter wants to see me! Take ''that'', depression!
* StoppedCaring: He used to genuinely care about humanity and the souls in Hell, to the point of having tried a similar experiment as Charlie now is - but the combination of Heaven's apathy and the persistence of the sinners in Hell have gotten him to give up hope.
* StrongAndSkilled: As opposed to Charlie, who while [[UnskilledButStrong powerful lacks fighting experience]] due to her temperament, Lucifer not only is more powerful then her, but also has amazing combat skills, best shown when he [[spoiler:runs circles around Adam without even breaking a sweat, utilizing his shapeshifting to avoid Adam's attacks, and his angelic strength to pound him]].
* TemptingApple: Apples are presented as a very prominent motif for Lucifer and all things remotely associated with him. From his apparel to the very decor used in his daughter's hotel, apples are strongly featured. This along with the other pronounced motif of snakes is a clear reference to the biblical ForbiddenFruit, an appropriate symbol for the head honcho of Hell.
* ThatCameOutWrong: He tends to mess up phrases when he tries to sound cool and impressive.
** When Charlie calls Lucifer on the phone, he stammers over what he's going to say for a moment before greeting her with "Heeeeeey, bitch!" which is awkward for everyone involved.
** In "The Show Must Go On", when Lucifer confronts [[spoiler:Adam during the latest Extermination which starts at the Hazbin Hotel]], Lucifer tells his opponent, "I am going to FUCK you!", which shocks everyone present into StunnedSilence until Charlie whispers to Lucifer that he should have said "fuck you up" instead.
--->'''Lucifer:''' Wait, what did I say?
* ThinkingUpPortals: He's able to open circular portals on a whim.
* TimeAbyss: He makes a comment in the Season 1 finale that implies he's 10,000 years old, possibly even older.
* TookALevelInIdealism: After thousands of years of ruling over the worst humanity has to offer, Lucifer is not the idealistic dreamer he once was and believes trying to redeem sinners isn't worth it. [[spoiler:But after seeing how hard Charlie and her friends fought to defend the hotel, and even after it's destroyed, he encourages her to rebuild and continue pursuing her dream of helping sinners, and throws support behind her 100%.]]
-->'''Lucifer''': [[spoiler:You can do this, now I know it!\

You can't quit now, hell, you owe it\
There's still damage to be undone\

Found the good in souls gone bad\
The stage is wrecked, the crowd is gone\
But by God, Charlie, the show, it must go on!]]
* TopGod: Lucifer is the the highest ranked entity on Hell's hierarchy, being its King and the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins, who are directly below Lucifer’s family in terms of power and could be considered god-like entities themselves. He's also able to fight with Adam without even losing composure.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Faustisse says that his favorite snack is caramel apples, which is fitting considering his [[ForbiddenFruit motif]].
* {{Troll}}: It's unclear if he seduced Eve as well, or if he just said it to get under Adam's skin.
* UnholyMatrimony: With Lilith, seeing as they ''literally'' rule Hell.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Giving Eve the fruit of knowledge allowed evil to corrupt Earth. He meant it as an opportunity for humans to experience true free will but didn't expect it to also bring up the darker side of choosing for yourself.
* VoiceOfTheLegion: Lucifer's voice deepens and gains an uncanny reverb effect when he says Razzle and Dazzle had better be protecting Charlie. His voice gains the same effect when he hits his RageBreakingPoint from [[spoiler:seeing Adam trying to hurt Charlie]]. After this, he screams at [[spoiler:Lute]] to go home, before adding a sarcastic and smug "please" in his normal voice.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Lucifer can freely shift his form into other creatures. He seems to prefer a snake, but can assume other forms like a bird, horse, or even an octopus.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: He genuinely had good intentions when giving humanity free will, but things backfired horribly.
* WhiteAndRedAndEerieAllOver: Stands above all of Hell's horrors and is immaculately dressed in white and red clothes.
* WillfullyWeak: Another thing that Charlie inherited from him. He's the King of Hell as well as an elder fallen angel with the immense power that comes with it that nobody else in Hell can match. He used this power to forcefully become the King Of Hell and commands fear and respect from his subjects. Despite this, throughout "Dad Beat Dad" he lets Alastor (who while powerful, is merely an Overlord who is far below him in the hierarchy) constantly mock and belittle him as well as compete with him in a musical number to get Charlie's affection. At any given time, he could have easily wiped Alastor's SlasherSmile off his face and permanently annihilated him in a blink of an eye but most likely chose not to because he sees how much Charlie appreciates him and doesn't want to hurt her feelings.
* WingedHumanoid: After falling, he kept the 6 wings which are the mark of the Seraphim although now with red undersides.
* TheWonka: Lucifer was a dreamer with fantastical ideas, and when he went to hell he turned it into a circus theme, while remaining in charge. In modern times he invents toys like a rubber duckie that functions as a flamethrower, but that seems to be, at least in part, due to the depression from Lilith being gone.
* WorldsStrongestMan:
** There is a good reason he is the king of Hell. He's not only much more powerful than even the likes of Alastor, he's able to make Adam (the strongest Exorcist) [[CurbstompBattle look like a joke]]. And that's before he loses his temper. [[spoiler:When he goes full PapaWolf in Episode 8, the only thing that saves Adam's life (momentarily, at least) is Charlie telling Lucifer that Adam was beaten and not a threat anymore.]]
** Episode 6 reveals that the Seraphim, the highest authorities in Heaven, are angels with six wings. Lucifer also has six wings, implying that he was at the very top of the hierarchy and comparable in authority to the current High Seraphim, Sera. Even as a fallen angel, Lucifer still holds enough sway with Heaven that they will agree to some of his requests, such as successfully bargaining for Hellborn Demons to be exempt from the Exterminations and granting Charlie an audience, even if the rulers of Heaven would rather not.

Lilith is the first woman, the wife of Lucifer, mother of Charlie, and Queen of Hell.
----
* AmbiguouslyEvil: While Charlie has nothing but good things to say about her, the [[https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F7h75zw19r48c1.jpeg official trading card of her]] that was part of a pre-release promotion portrays her in a mysterious, somewhat sinister light. [[spoiler:In the season 1 finale, we learn that she's been in Heaven this whole time, thanks to a deal she apparently made with Adam, with the newly empowered Lute demanding that she do something about her daughter. What this means regarding her relationship with her family and with the angels is hard to say, though it ''definitely'' makes her seem like a shitty parent who was too busy enjoying a vacation to bother responding to her daughter's calls for emotional support]].
* ChekhovMIA: While Charlie is emotionally distant from both her parents, her seven-year absence from Charlie's life (especially when contrasted with her unsurprised reaction to Lucifer's phone call) suggests that this is more than just ParentalNeglect and that she may truly be off the grid. Turns out [[spoiler: she's more than off the grid, she's on another plane of reality altogether.]]
* CoolShades: She wears a pair [[spoiler: at the very end of the first season, when she is shown relaxing on a beach in Heaven.]]
* DealWithTheDevil: [[spoiler: The first SeasonFinale reveals that she's made some deal with Adam that allowed her into Heaven in spite of being a Sinner. As of this edit, it's unclear whether she or Adam was the "devil", however.]]
* DemonOfHumanOrigin: She's actually the very first woman, in fact.
* GracefulLadiesLikePurple: She wears a purple gown in the family tapestry.
* GreaterScopeParagon: Charlie, at least, views her as inspiration for both giving knowledge to humans and also believing in their potential, viewing the eponymous Hotel as a way to continue her legacy. [[spoiler:The reveal that she's been hiding out in Heaven and working closely with Lute brings this trope into question.]]
* HellishPupils: Her pupils are vertical slits in her yellow eyes, befitting the Queen of Hell.
* HopeBringer: According to Hell's backstory, when Lucifer gave up on dreaming, Lilith brought hope to Hell by empowering demonkind with her singing.
* HornedHumanoid: Lilith has a pair of massive pink horns reaching up then curving back behind her head. Later subverted, when it's revealed via portraits that they're actually a part of her crown.
* LongHairIsFeminine: Her hair is so long that it reaches the ground, and she appears to be very feminine.
* MissingMom: According to "Overture", Charlie hasn't seen her in seven years. [[spoiler:TheStinger reveals that she's been hiding out in Heaven for unknown reasons.]]
* ParentalNeglect: Charlie has tried more than once to call her for emotional support, evidently without her picking up once. It's later revealed that Lilith has been completely absent for seven years.
* StatuesqueStunner: She’s a demonic beauty who also happens to be much taller than most of her family, including her husband.
* TechnicolorEyes: In the pilot her eyes have white irises, while in the series her irises are violet.
* UnholyMatrimony: She and her husband are the HappilyMarried couple who rule Hell. Or were, at least. According to Charlie, Lilith and Lucifer split at some point before the story began.
* WhenYouComingHomeDad: It's implied Lilith is so busy, she doesn't have enough time to talk to her own daughter, which is leaving an emotional strain on Charlie. The first episode of the series reveals she's been gone for the past seven years. [[spoiler:On top of that, the finale shows that rather than being busy with anything, Lilith was effectively enjoying a nice vacation up in heaven yet couldn't be bothered to respond to her daughter's calls for emotional support.]]
* WomenAreWiser: In one of Faustisee's streams, they state that Lilith is the "brains" of the couple and wears the pants in the relationship.

----
* KentBrockmanNews: The amount of professionalism with which 666 News approaches its broadcasts leaves quite a lot to be desired. In almost every one, Katie finds a way to [[TheChewToy severely injure Tom]] and they both loudly inject their own crass opinions on the current topic into the broadcast.
--> '''Katie:''' Looks like they're fighting ''tooth and nail'' for Hell's hotspots!\

* ThoseTwoGuys: Since they're a pair of news anchors, they've never been encountered separately and they're almost always there to deliver hilariously cruel commentary on the latest events in Hell.

A pompous, callous newscaster who ridicules Charlie's goals and treats everyone like garbage, even her own co-anchor.
----
* AlliterativeName: Her first and last name both start with the letter "K".
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: She calls Adam a “fuckable bad boy” while covering [[spoiler: his death]] on the news.
* AnimalMotif: An insect of some sort as seen in her OneWingedAngel form. Judging by the buzzing noise that sometimes accompanies her speech, it may be cicadas.
* BerserkButton: Getting called a bitch is more than enough for her to throw hands-on live TV with Charlie. Going by how quickly Tom [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere vacates the premises]], it's not the first time that's happened either.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: She tends to be more affable on-air. While she's still pretty mean on-camera, it's nothing that Hell hasn't seen before. Off-camera, she's a complete bitch.
* BlondeRepublicanSexKitten: She invokes that stereotype with her character design and brazen homophobia. She may have even been one in life.
* BrightIsNotGood: She has porcelain white skin, blonde hair, and pink clothes, and is one of the more odious characters.
* BullyingADragon: She clearly disrespects Charlie, refusing to shake her hand since "I don't touch the gays," and calling her idea stupid without even knowing what it is. All of this knowing full well that Charlie is the Princess of Hell and is much more powerful than her.
* CostumeEvolution: Her outfit is given a slight redesign in the series, so she resembles WebVideo/BrandonRogers' Bryce Tankthrust persona.
* CulturalTranslation: In the Japanese dub of the pilot, her line about Sir Pentious and Cherri Bomb fighting "tooth and nail for that hotspot!" is changed to her using Cherri's name as part of a pun to call Tom a "cherry boy" (virgin).
* CurseCutShort: As Tom whimpers in pain after Katie dumped her coffee on his crotch, she tells him on air to, "suck it up, you little bi-!" but is cut off by the commercial break.
* DeliberateValuesDissonance: Her [[https://twitter.com/HazbinHotel/status/992879031182704640 official bio]] mentions she died in 1992, a time when homosexuality was much less accepted than it would be in the 21st century. This explains Katie's open homophobia but doesn't paint her any less of a PoliticallyIncorrectVillain.
* DemotedToExtra: In the pilot, Katie is a pretty important character, as the host of the news show where Charlie is pitching her idea for the hotel. In Season 1 of the series, she only has two minor appearances, neither of which are particularly significant to the plot: one to announce that the extermination has been moved forward six months, [[spoiler:and the other to announce that Charlie and her team have successfully fought off the Exorcists, causing the extermination to be cancelled]].
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Katie underestimates Charlie when Katie turns into her final demon form during the fistfight scene. She most likely didn’t expect Charlie to fight back.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: When her co-anchor Tom makes a crude remark about Cherri Bomb while they're reporting on Hell's latest turf war, she chirps, "Hee hee, you are a limpdick jackass, Tom! Or should I say..." and pours her boiling-hot coffee in his lap, finishing her response with, "no dick?", showing that she's repulsed at Tom for being a creep.
* EvilIsHammy: She is proven to be [[LargeHam massively]] [[MilkingTheGiantCow passionate]] in the way speaks and moves, usually expressed through thinly-masked contempt and BodyHorror.
* {{Expy}}: An official source stated that she was based on Gail Hailstorm from ''Film/ScaryMovie'', a newswoman deliberately made to be a HateSink for [[VeryPunchableMan the protagonists to abuse]].
* ExtremeOmnivore: She eats and swallows a literal tooth and nail.
* HartmanHips: She has a very thin midriff and large hips.
* HateSink: She's a self-important, rude, snotty, abusive, homophobic diva made to be as loathsome as possible so that the audience can root for Charlie. While she does have a sense of hamminess due to her movements and voice acting, none of these comedic moments serve to make her any less hateable, as she still comes off as unlikable and isn't quite the fun type of jerk that Adam or even Lute is.
* {{Hypocrite}}:
** She has no problem demeaning other characters whether that'd be her fellow co-host or even the Princess of Hell. Yet, she can't handle the fact that someone calls her a "bitch".
** She calls Charlie a failure, but in her previous life, she was an unsuccessful newscaster.
* HypocriticalHumor: One of the first interactions Katie has with Charlie is refusing to shake the princess' hand with the reason that she doesn't touch the gays because she has standards. Katie however then proceeds to tap on Charlie's chest and then her nose with her finger in a condescending manner as she explains the real reason why the news station gave Charlie the chance to be interviewed.
* ImmoralJournalist: She's a snobby, self-absorbed news anchor, who treats her co-host like crap and belittles Charlie every chance she takes.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Only cares about her image and the hottest stories.
* {{Jerkass}}: She's an incredibly snobbish and arrogant woman who only cares about her image and the latest buzz, and actively puts down Charlie for her goal of making Hell a better place. She also appears to regularly assault her co-newscaster, Tom, and tells him to suck it up after pouring piping hot coffee on his lap.
* JerkassHasAPoint: While she is a terrible person, Katie did bring up a good point when she said nobody in Hell would care about being a good person for its own sake, and that Charlie has no evidence that redemption for Sinners is even possible, so why would anyone bother?
* KineticClicking: Whenever she moves, loud cracking noises can be heard, as if all of her joints are popping with every motion.
* LadySwearsalot: She along with Husk drop quite a bit more swear bombs than the other characters.
* LiteralMetaphor: Her swallowing a tooth and nail was done in tandem to making a comment about how Cherri and Sir Pentious were fighting "tooth and nail" for new territory after the recent extermination.
* LosingYourHead: Upon rushing back to her seat when Charlie's interview goes live, Katie's neck just randomly snaps in half from the momentum and her head flops to the side at a right angle while still partially attached to the rest of her body. The whole thing is completely treated as nothing by Katie.
* MeaningfulName: Katie Killjoy is so appropriately named as she's a massive bitch to practically everyone. She's just generally nasty and makes everyone miserable from putting down Charlie to regularly assaulting her co-newscaster.
* MoralMyopia: She casually insults and humiliates Charlie on live TV, but when Charlie calls her a bitch, she attacks her and goes full-on OneWingedAngel.
* NeckSnap: Her neck has a habit of violently snapping into an almost horizontal position when torque is applied to it (complete with SickeningCrunch), with her showing no ill effects due to being a Sinner.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Her first name and her hair indicate she's partly based on Katie Couric.
* NotBad: In the Season One finale, she congratulates Charlie and the Hazbin Hotel for "not being totally fuckin' useless for once".
* OhCrap: Downplayed but in "Overture", her eye twitches when she announces that the next extermination has been moved forward by six months.
-->'''Katie''': It means we're all royally ''FUCKED!''
* PetTheDog: {{Downplayed|Trope}}, but she does thank Charlie on the news for [[spoiler: successfully fending off the Extermination in the Season 1 finale]], even if she does word it as an insult.
* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain: In addition to being just an overall jerkass, Katie is an outright homophobe as she refuses to shake Charlie's hand.
-->'''Katie''': You can put that away. I don't touch the gays. I have standards.
* RetractableAppendages: She has four retractable insectoid limbs.
* RichBitch: Katie is a massive jerkass that doesn't care about anyone else on the grounds that she's a successful newscaster. This is exemplified when she explains to Charlie that she's "too rich and too influential to give a flying fuck about what some tux-wearing demon princess wants to advertise", despite Charlie literally being Lucifer's daughter.
* ShipTease: Implied with Tom Trench, albeit in a Dom/Sub way.
* SickeningCrunch: The crackling of bones breaking can be heard just about every time Katie moves.
* SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids: Her name is Katie ''Killjoy'' for a reason.
-->'''Katie Killjoy''': What in the nine circles makes you think a single denizen of Hell would give two shits about becoming a better person?! You have no proof that this little experiment even works! You want people to be good, just because?!
* SmallNameBigEgo: She's egotistical enough to believe that her status as a rich and influential newscaster puts her above having to listen to anything that Charlie, who is the princess of Hell, has to say.
* StupidEvil:
** Flat out threatens to kill Charlie and even gets into a fistfight with her, despite her being Lucifer's daughter.
** Demonstrated again during said fistfight. Despite Katie going OneWingedAngel, Charlie easily holds her own without tapping into her full power, but not once does Katie consider backing down.
* TooDumbToLive: Katie is very damn lucky [[PapaWolf Lucifer]] isn't aware of her threatening and fighting Charlie. Considering [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown what he did to Adam]], he would've killed her.
* TwitchyEye: Her right eye twitches while she reports the news that the next extermination will be in six months time rather than a whole year.
* VisualPun: When Charlie's interview goes live, Katie's neck breaks from the momentum of her quickly rushing back to her seat. In other words, she rushed back at "breakneck" speed.
* VocalEvolution: In the pilot, she has a feminine voice. The series gives her a goofy masculine voice that sounds nearly identical to the one WebVideo/BrandonRogers uses for his Bryce Tankthrust character.
* VocalDissonance: Not so much in the pilot, but in the series proper, she's voiced by WebVideo/BrandonRogers, giving her a very male-sounding voice.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: When Charlie calls Katie a bitch, the newscaster in anger grows out four insect arms as well as an extra pair of eyes. Overlaps with OneWingedAngel, as it's implied that she's a better fighter in this form.

----
* TwentyFourHourArmor: Tom is never seen without his gas mask on. It might be his actual face.
* AerithAndBob: As the creators lampshade, the inhabitants of Hell usually have very exotic names, and then there's Tom.
* AlliterativeName: His first and last name both start with the letter "T".
* AmbiguouslyBi: He makes a sexual comment about wanting to nail Cherri Bomb. Later, when Charlie mentions Angel Dust's name during the interview, Tom ''immediately'' recognizes that she's talking about the porn star. To this, Katie comments by saying, "You fucking would, Tom." and Tom quickly looks away in embarrassment.
* ButtMonkey: His first official appearance in actual material from the show has his co-anchor dumping [[GroinAttack boiling hot coffee on his crotch]], and it's implied this isn't the first time it's happened. Not to mention that he [[NoodleIncident somehow]] catches on fire once the interview devolves into an all-out brawl.
-->'''''WHY WON'T ANYONE HELP MEEEEE!?!?!'''''
* CoolMask: A gas mask. It's most likely his actual face since his hair is attached to it and [[HumanoidAbomination the designs of]] [[OurDemonsAreDifferent the other demons]]; Vivziepop's comments lend credence to this idea.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Shows disapproval of Katie shamelessly gloating and insulting Charlie.
* ExpressiveMask: His mask's lenses change to reflect his eyes and the nozzles move when he talks. Possibly justified, since it's implied to be [[ClothingAppendage his actual face]].
* GroinAttack: Katie pours piping hot coffee over his lap, and the pained "Not again" he lets out implies that she’s done it before.
* KentBrockmanNews: One half of this with his esteemed co-anchor Katie.
* LovableSexManiac: "Lovable" could be debated, but he's definitely the less unpleasant between him and Katie, doesn't hesitate to crack a sexual joke about nailing Cherri Bomb's "hotspot" and looks proud of the joke afterward, and ''immediately'' recognizes Angel Dust when Charlie namedrops him, from Angel Dust being a porn star.
* MeaningfulName: His last name Trench complements the fact that he's depicted with a gas mask, since World War I was infamous for its use of trench and chemical warfare.
* ProperlyParanoid: Tom always wears his gas mask, and although he does not have to worry about inhaling toxic fumes, he does get injured in the scuffle between his co-host and Charlie.

A demon obsessed with Angel Dust who directs his films with Valentino.
----
* AllMenArePerverts: Most of his appearances involve him drooling over Angel Dust. In the premiere, he's also seen excitedly watching a bukkake show.
* AllThereInTheManual: He isn't named in the pilot, however, his actual name was first revealed in [[https://twitter.com/hazbinhotel/status/1043927721712136192 a tweet]].
* AlwaysABiggerFish: Though he's technically Angel's boss, he defers to Valentino while filming, awkwardly shaking his head when Valentino asks if he thinks people care about dialogue.
* AmbiguouslyBi: Angel briefly asks him to tell "the missus" that he said hi, meaning that he's married to a woman, but so far he's only shown any actual ''attraction'' to men.
* BadassLongcoat: His first full-body appearance in "Spring Broken" shows him wearing what looks like a long peacoat made of black feathers, similar to the ones on his body.
* ButtMonkey: He crashes his car offscreen in the pilot and gets kicked in the face by Angel during the "ADDICT" music video.
* TheCameo:
** In the "ADDICT" music video, he appears for a few seconds in the crowd watching Angel Dust's show, and promptly gets kicked in the face.
** In ''WebAnimation/HelluvaBoss,'' he makes a [[FreezeFrameBonus very brief]] appearance in "Spring Broken" as one of the many demons that hire I.M.P to off someone.
* ExpressiveEars: His ear tufts droop when Angel calls him a "sack of poorly-packaged horseshit".
* FeatheredFiend: He has a vaguely avian design, with feathers and a beak-like mouth.
* HiddenDepths: In "Spring Broken", he appears in a crowd of demons hiring I.M.P. for assassination missions, implying he has a grudge against someone on Earth. This could also suggest he didn't die that long ago.
* MixAndMatchCritters: His design is mostly birdlike, but he also looks a bit like a sloth, due to his facial features and the claws on his wings.
* OminousOwl: He's a demon with a bird-like design, and his facial disks and ear tufts call to mind an owl specifically.
* OnlyOneName: If he has a last name, we don't know what it is.
* RecurringExtra: He appears in the pilot, the "ADDICT" music video, an episode of ''WebAnimation/HelluvaBoss'', and the Hazbin Hotel premiere before his role as Valentino's director is confirmed in "[[Recap/HazbinHotelS1E4Masquerade Masquerade]]".
* SatelliteCharacter: To Angel Dust.
* ToothyBird: He has a bird-like design, but a mouth full of sharp teeth like every other demon in Hell.
* WickedHeartSymbol: He has a heart-shaped facial disc, similar to Stolas, and a heart-shaped pupil in one of his eyes.
* WingdingEyes: His left eye has a heart-shaped pupil.

* AllThereInTheScript: Their names are revealed in the [[MediaNotes/ClosedCaptioning closed captions]] during the episode which properly introduces them.
* AmbiguousSituation: They’re Carmilla’s daughters but whether they were a family while alive and reunited in Hell or were adopted by her in the afterlife is unclear.
* BareMidriffsAreFeminine: Clara dresses a bit more revealingly compared to Odette.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Odette, her design practically unchanged, briefly appears in the pilot alongside another female demon, which may have been an early design for Clara.
* FamilyEyeResemblance: One sign that they're Carmilla's daughters is that their eyes are very similar to hers.
* HornedHumanoid: Both girls sport a pair of black horns, as opposed to their mother whose hair is merely styled to look like horns.
* LabcoatOfScienceAndMedicine: Odette wears one as part of her weapons manufacturing occupation.
* NerdGlasses: Odette wears a big red pair of glasses.
* StraightToThePointe: Like their mother, both Clara and Odette are always shown to be in an en pointe position.

An old friend of Alastor's when he was alive. Takes refuge in the Hotel when she's being pursued by loan sharks.
----
* TwentiesBobHaircut: Mimzy has this as someone from the 20s.
* {{Acrofatic}}: Mimzy is overweight (and is practically the only character on the show who isn't a [[NoodlePeople noodle person]]), but she's also known to be a talented dancer, even busting out some moves of her own at the end of the "Hell's Greatest Dad" musical number.
* AnimalMotifs: According to Vivienne Medrano, Mimzy was designed to vaguely resemble a chicken, hence her plumpness, small, beaklike nose, and the prominent red feathers in her headband. This is likely meant to emphasize her status as a DirtyCoward, as well as a [[GossipyHens gossipy]] [[{{Pun}} hen]].
* BeyondRedemption: Alastor thinks this of her, telling her she's welcome to try out the Hotel if she ever wants to change, but noting that she likely won't take the offer since it's "not her style". He's proven right when Mimzy rejects the offer and leaves with a huff and then insulting Alastor's decision to choose the Hotel over his best friend.
* BigBeautifulWoman: She's short, plump and, by her own admission, adorable.
* BirdsOfAFeather: Given that both of them are {{Genki Girl}}s who fawn over Alastor, it's no surprise that she gets along well with Niffty.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: She plays herself up as sweet and personable, but at the end of the episode, she's proven to be a selfish coward.
* CorruptedCharacterCopy: According to an official statement, she's meant to be "a trashy WesternAnimation/BettyBoop". Like Betty Boop, Mimzy is a short, adorable, spunky [[TheFlapper flapper]] with a cutesy voice and excellent dancing skills. However, whereas Betty Boop is a genuinely altruistic NiceGirl, Mimzy is a self-centered, materialistic JerkWithAHeartOfJerk who uses her friend [[AffablyEvil Alastor's]] status as TheDreaded as a shield to get herself out of trouble.
* DirtyCoward: Tends to run to Alastor whenever she gets in trouble, expecting him to clean up her messes for her. Alastor doesn't mind at first, but when her actions end up endangering the Hotel and its residents, he puts his hoof down and [[TranquilFury calmly but coldly]] demands that she leave.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: She's on the run from some loan sharks because she stole a car and ran over one of their girlfriends with it, but claims "that bitch had it comin'."
* ExoticEyeDesigns: Mimsy is PieEyed with [[BlackEyesOfCrazy red irises and black sclerae]].
* FatBitch: Mimzy's a noticeably overweight demon who's very bitchy and is even believed to be BeyondRedemption. Though compared to other Hellaverse {{Fat Bastard}}s like Adam and [[WebAnimation/HelluvaBoss Mammon]], she's more just annoying and peppy than outright villainous and vile.
* TheFlapper: She's designed to look like one of these and was alive around the same time Alastor was, albeit the stereotypical kind.
* GenkiGirl: She's perky, energetic and LOUD.
* {{Jerkass}}: A more mild example than most of the show's {{Jerkass}}es, but she's shown to be egotistical and materialistic, and part of the reason she's being pursued by the loan sharks is because she ran over one of their girlfriends with a car, trying to deflect on that last part by arguing that [[NeverMyFault "that bitch had it comin'"]]. She also has a habit of using Alastor to bail her out whenever she's in trouble, and "Dad Beat Dad" shows that she [[LackOfEmpathy doesn't care]] if others get caught in the crossfire.
* KarmaHoudini: She got in trouble with several mobsters after borrowing 50 grand from them, stealing their car and then running over one of their girlfriends. When the mobsters hunt her down she just hides in the hotel and lets Alastor takes care of her problem for her. [[spoiler:The most karma she faces is Alastor cutting ties with her for using him even though it brought trouble to the hotel he's invested in. Considering what Alastor usually does to people for fun, let alone for insulting him, she got off very easy.]]
* LargeHam: She's introduced interrupting Alastor and Lucifer's song with a bombastic musical number of her own.
* MonsterFangirl: She fawns over Alastor, ''especially'' his bloodthirstiness.
* MsExposition: She explains Alastor's backstory to Angel and Pentious.
* PieEyed: As a nod to her being from the 1920s, Mimzy has red oval pupils with a triangular chunk taken out of them.
* ProudBeauty: When everyone gawks at her after she appears unannounced, she teasingly asks if it's "because she's adorable" while striking a flirty pose.
* RedemptionRejection: [[spoiler:Alastor effectively states that he expects this of her when he states she is welcome to stay at the hotel if she is willing to try and redeem herself. Sure enough, Mimzy refuses the offer and leaves in a huff.]]
* SmallNameBigEgo: Her EstablishingCharacterMoment is interrupting Alastor and Lucifer's QuarrelingSong by gleefully announcing "IT'S MEEEEEEE!" and singing as if everyone was waiting for her to arrive. This is promptly met by Lucifer asking who she is.
* UndeathlyPallor: Her skin is a pale, sickly grey.
* UngratefulBitch: After Alastor tells her that, because of her cowardly shenanigans, she isn't welcome at the Hazbin Hotel unless she seeks redemption, she has the nerve to angrily say "who needs ya" and leave, nevermind that Alastor ''just saved her'' from dangerous crooks which ''she'' brought to the hotel.
* VillainousFriendship: She, Alastor, and Niffty are friends. She also sees herself as a friend to Husk, but he doesn't like her at all. [[spoiler:Alastor also seems to cut off the friendship when Mimzy's actions end up putting the Hotel in danger]].

[[folder:Cannibal Town]]
A community of cannibals who style themselves after 1940s Americana.
----
* AffablyEvil: With the exception of Susan, most of them are rather kind and polite despite their enjoyment of eating flesh. Charlie even notes that, in comparison to the rest of the Pride Ring, they seem nicer and are willing to help her with defending Hazbin Hotel, being the first Sinners that actually respond positively to Charlie singing about her Hotel, though it's the prospect of getting to experience eating angel flesh that gives them the final push into supporting her.
* BlackEyesOfEvil: Their main feature that distinquishes them from other Demons are their pitch black eyes.
* CannibalClan: An entire town of cannibals.
* CreepyChild: There are a surprising number of cannibal children in the town, who have the same black eyes as their parents. They get big smiles when Alastor mentions getting the chance to try angel flesh if they join up to help fight the Exorcists.
* CurbStompCushion: The Exorcists slaughter most of them after Alastor's [[DeflectorShields protective barrier]] is brought down by Adam, but it's made clear that they managed to put much more of a fight than the sinners in previous Exterminations that came before them thanks to being armed with Carmilla's angelic weapons. By the time the Exorcists are forced to retreat, the battlefield is shown to be filled with the corpses of cannibal sinner and Exorcist alike.
* EvilIsOneBigHappyFamily: Rosie tells Charlie that the denizens of Cannibal Town are a very close-knit community, so she needs to convince ''all of them'' to join her cause.
* FoodAsBribe: Getting to snack on angel flesh is the primary reason they agree to help Charlie fight the Exorcist army.

* HighClassFan: Many of the women in Cannibal Town carry hand fans with them, fitting with the high-class aesthetics the cannibals have.
* ImAHumanitarian: They stick together due to their shared love of human flesh, and it is the promise of getting to eat Angelic meat that rallies the cannibals to help the Hazbin Hotel in their defence against Adam and the Exorcists.
* InexplicablyIdenticalIndividuals: Downplayed -- while they don't look exactly identical, they all have the same grey skin and black eyes in common, while most other Sinners have appearances unique to them.

* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Courtesy of being rude, overbearing and curmudgeonly; even Alastor and Rosie view her as an "ornery old bitch". Yet, she's one of the cannibals and they stick together.
* FurAndLoathing: She wears a fox skin with one eye crossed out draped over her shoulders, adding cruelty to animals to the list of reasons not to like her.
* TheHeckler: The reason Susan is so tough to convince, unlike the rest of the Cannibals, is that she's a crotchety old woman who enjoys making fun of and slinging insults at people as they try to speak.
* OneSceneTwoMonologues: She talks over Charlie the entire time she's trying to give her speech.
* PetTheDog: In her last scene in season one, she nods approvingly in response to Charlie's song, showing that Charlie has won her favor.
* ScrewPolitenessImASenior: Is visibly older than the rest of the town, and is ''very'' unpleasant, to the point where Alastor calls her a bitch and Charlie gives her the middle finger, something they normally never do.

* LawyerFriendlyCameo: Despite being created by the same person, the real Fizzarolli is not currently permitted to appear in the show for various legal reasons. As such, Kitty is designed (presumably customized in-universe) to look as distinct from him as possible, right down to being female and having a different name.
* PerpetualSmiler: Always seen with a smile on her face like every other Robo-Fizz. The only exception thus far is a FreezeFrameBonus where [[BadBoss Valentino]] flicks some cigarette ashes [[KickTheDog in her face]], at which point she flinches with a grimace.
* PinkMeansFeminine: Unlike regular Robo-Fizzes whose designs incorporate heavy amounts of green and black, Kitty is pink and white.
* RobotMaid: Acts as one to Valentino, often doing things like fetching him and the other Vees drinks.
* SatelliteCharacter: There’s not much characterization given to her other than being Valentino's personal assistant.
