Added DiffLines:

* FairForItsDay: Though the look of Africa may be dated and a little patronizing, the movie has a few nice moments of interracial harmony. The Man is rescued from drowning by a young African girl and they bond with each other. Also, the tribesmen pursuing the Man are given far more character and humanization then most African characters would have been given for a mid-1960s film.
* NightmareFuel: The way all of The Man's travel companions die qualify. A particularly nasty example involves a man being covered in clay, and then roasted alive over a fire, squealing as he dies. Supposedly this was based on a real ancient torture device called the Brazen Bull.
