About lack of screen time, not handling.

** The Ascension may well be the epitome of BadassDecay in WWE: after being a devastating, dominating force in NXT, their stint on the main roster has been so abysmally booked that it can't be anything other than intentional sabotage, far beyond anything that mere incompetence or laziness could account for.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: The Ascension were red hot on NXT. So of course, they got called up to the main roster, and completely and utterly buried, to the point that they'd probably be better off quitting and going to a different promotion. Even the commentators (including the heel commentator Wrestling/JBL who would normally support them) did nothing but disparage them as nobodies who were nothing compared to the teams they were based off (such as Wrestling/TheRoadWarriors and Wrestling/Demolition). There doesn't seem to be any reason for it either, it's just plain shoddy booking. When SLAM! Wrestling rated them the worst tag team of 2015, writer John Powell lamented that the team had worked so hard and had previously been so good, only to be completely squandered by the incompetence of WWE management.

* BadassDecay mixed with TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: The Ascension may well be the epitome of something with potential for awesomeness in WWE turning into complete gunk. The Ascension were red hot on NXT}} NXT. They were a devastating, dominating force, to the point they were the longest reigning tag team champions in the history of NXT, with many likening them to potentially being a tag team version of Wrestling/TheUndertaker. When Hideo Itami and Finn Bálor made their NXT debuts with their establishing feud being against The Ascension, they actually had trouble taking them out until Bálor overwhelmed them by introducing the Demon King.\\

So of course, they got called up to the main roster, and completely and utterly buried, to the point that they'd probably be better off quitting and going to a different promotion. Being given Mad Max/Illuminati fusion starter kits for entrance attire while boasting that they were the only good tag team ever was one thing. That type of stuff is standard fare for up-and-coming heels. But apparently someone backstage was so put off by it that before long the commentators (including the heel commentator Wrestling/JBL who would normally support them) did nothing but disparage them as nobodies who were nothing compared to the teams they were based off (such as Wrestling/TheRoadWarriors and Wrestling/Demolition). They subsequently got jobbed out to old school stars, then made the muscle for Stardust aka Cody Rhodes (who quit WWE not long after), were rated the worst tag team of 2015 by SLAM! Wrestling solely based off their booking despite writer Josh Powell even acknowledging how they'd previously been so good, and will probably spend their time jobbing until they get released. When brief terms as lackeys to the Social Outcasts and Breezango are considered promotions, it goes without saying that their stint on the main roster has been so abysmally booked that it can't be anything other than intentional sabotage, far beyond anything that mere incompetence or laziness could account for.
