* {{Anvilicious}}: This series follows it's predecessor in showing the ugly side of the drugs empire and the pain it causes to the population and does not shy away of being overly obvious about it. Several times the characters will deliver a monologue regarding some form of injustice suffered by society, especially those that struggle with poverty, that can get quite jarring especially if it's in the middle of a high tension scene. Still, SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped, seeing as a lot of what is shown is [[TruthInTelevision something that has been proven to happen quite often]]

* CompleteMonster: Martin, Catalina the Elder's previous boss at the DEA, who not only tricked her into believing she was being blamed for the escape of el Titi but use that opportunity to kidnap her and have her locked in a house in the middle of nowhere, having being obsessed with her since he met her. To top it all, that place was where he kept other victims who not only did he tortured and raped, but he also killed and ''ate them''.

* DracoInLeatherPants: El Titi, dear God, ''El Titi''. Although it's stated over and over again that he's a bad guy and that while he does good things from time to time, he's a drug lord and a killer at his core, fans still root for him and for the possibility that he will end up with Catalina the Elder.

* ShipToShipCombat: Not nearly as intense as in other fandoms, but the question of who will end up with Catalina the Elder has sparked some heated debate with some preferring her with [[FirstCutIsTheDeepest Albeiro]], others with [[BelligerentSexualTension Titi]], some with [[HappilyMarried Santiago]] and, most recently, with [[BodyguardCrush Tony]].

* TheScrappy: The character of Hilda is easily one of the most hated in both series. Starting with her having a [[NeverLiveItDown relationship with her daughter's boyfriend]] and making decisions that a lot of people see as irrational and downright stupid.

** Also Albeiro, for nearly the same reasons as Hilda. What saves him is that he's far more active than his spouse but it doesn't help as much.
** Mariana, the daughter of Catalina the Elder, who out of nowhere decides to take Hernan Dario from her aunt Catalina the Young, doing everything she can to separate them. It doesn't help that her attitude is considered to be annoying and all around unlikable.
