** A problem that many had with previous episodes featuring dragons (especially ''[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS2E21DragonQuest Dragon Quest]]'') was that all of them aside from Spike were jerks. Issue #14 introduces Dragon Town, where the dragons are fairly nice [[spoiler:and even help rescue ponies from a fire.]]

** Pretty much the first issue. The art and plot leave much to be desired. The humor is not as good as one would expect from an issue featuring Pinkie Pie. There was no bonding moment between Aoplejack and Pinkie in spite of being the stars of the issue. And there is a lot of ponies that act more like a FlatCharacter, rather than having a good personality to offer.

* TheyJustDidntCare: The colorist for Issue #18 colors Rainbow Dash's signature rainbow trail differently from the show. This would be excusable as artistic license, except that the colorist isn't even internally consistent; the colors in the trail change every panel, and sometimes they aren't even different colors, such as numerous panels where the streak is colored in different orange-yellow gradients.

** Iron Will in issue #10. He really wants to learn to be patient and kind for his wife, but his impatience and temper get the best of him. Not helping is pretty much everypony not trusting him and Rainbow Dash and Angel clutching the JerkassBall really hard.

* CrossesTheLineTwice: Applejack and Rarity visit a knockoff of Disneyland and ride on "[[Franchise/TheHauntedMansion The Haunted Stable]]". One of the tombstones reads "[[GraveHumor I told you I was sick]]".

* BrokenBase: Issue #14 has caused a minor uproar due to its disregard to continuity (one of the main plot points of ''Dragon Quest'' was that Ponies and Dragons have entirely seperate civilizations, and yet one of Equestria's largest cities had a Dragon district this whole time?), which some defend by pointing out the show also does such {{Retcon}}s, and containing a blatant AuthorTract. It doesn't help that the author later openly admitted that he wrote the story specifically to call out ''Dragon Quest'' for what he claimed was a "toxic" for saying all members of a particular race are evil except for one member who was raised by a different race.

* EnsambleDarkhorse: Mina the dragon got this for being a [[MetaGuy brilliant stand-in to the series fandom]].
