** Aloysius Pennyworth, Byakuya's BattleButler, is almost unanimously agreed to be the thing about Vol.2, thanks to being an amazing BadassGrandpa whose antics slip out from absurd into pure CrazyAwesome.

* FanDislikedExplanation: [[HatePlague The Despair Book]] is disliked by many fans.

** Byakuya himself tends to verge on this, thanks to his {{Jerkass}} demeanour being dialled UpToEleven while being forced to weild a massive IdiotBall. Making things worse that, where in the main series Togami's behaviour nearly got him killed and lead to him [[TookALevelInKindness becoming less of a prick]], here he's praised constantly by the main narrator and rarely suffers repercussions to borderline GodModeSue degrees. The fact that he's infamously OutOfFocas does not help.
** The entire Togami family (with the exceptions of Asagao and arguably Shinobu) have become somewhat hated by fans thanks to being a bunch of RoyallyScrewedUp one-note {{Flat Character}}s who mostly just push the characters fans actually care about. Many accuse Yuya Satou of making the entire family into one giant CreatorsPet.

** Due to the huge cast, compressed pacing and ForegoneConclusion, a lot of the Togami siblings in Volume 2 suffer this. Eyumi is the worst, early on she states that her ambition is to become heir and cause TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt, which ''sounds'' she'll be relevant, only for her to do basically nothing for most of the story [[spoiler: then gets killed by Jirou to show that he's gone crazy]].

** ''Byakuya himself'' ends up OutOfFocas and rarely if ever gets much in the way of screentime. Considering the people interested in the novel were mainly his fans, this pissed off a lot of people.

* BaseBreaker: Blue Ink. While she's generally well liked by fans and most find her status as [[spoiler: Togami's elder sister and MoralityPet]] interesting, there's a segment of the Japanese fanbase who find her to be Yuya Satou's self-insert.
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: Midway through the climax of the first volume, the writer suddenly steps in to start extravagantly the book. One of the most widely criticised moments in the book, owing to it being a needless interruption in the story just so Satou can flaunt his ego.
* BrokenBase: The book has received a very mixed reception among Japanese fans. Some like it due to providing an interesting perspective of an alluded to event, introducing a variety of interesting new characters and providing an exhilarating story to boot. Others have been...less favourable, common complaints being Yuya Satou RunningTheAsylum, his infamous SmallNameBigEgo attitude towards the work, the work being very different to Kodaka and Kitagawa's writing styles, Togami being OutOfFocus in a story supposed to be about him, the retconning of several established elements and the {{Cliffhanger}} to the first volume being giving no actual payoff to many plot points and characters.

* HilariousInHindsight: A RunningGag present in ''VideoGame/AbosoluteDespairGirls'' was Fukawa constantly accusing Komaru of BrotherSisterIncest. Given [[spoiler: the [[IncestSubtext relationship]] between Byakuya and Shinobu]] here, this is comically ironic.
* {{HSQ}}: Constantly. Needless to say, when the ''first chapter'' involves Togami getting his identity stolen, a lengthy car chase through Prague, the appearance of several students from both games and more, you just know things are going to escalate further. '''It does.'''
* ItWasHisSled: TheReveal that [[spoiler: Blue Ink is Togami's sister Shinobu]] is easily one of the most well-known points about the novel, despite only being revealed near the end of the first volume.

* LikeYouWouldReallyDoIt: The fifth chapter really wants you to think [[spoiler: Togami has been killed]]. Needless to say, this is a bit difficult to swallow, given that [[spoiler: Togami has appeared in no less than three games set after this.]].
* TheScrappy: Suzuhiko Ootsuki, who practically ''no one'' likes despite only being in the first volume for about 15 pages. Common reasons include being a CanonSue, providing a DeusExMachina moment that does little to resolve of anything and being a carbon copy of Fukawa, only minus the character depths and personality that made Fukawa likable and entertaining.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: The Mystery Club, while derided for being obvious expies of the [[VideoGame/AbsoluteDespairGirls Warriors of Hope]], still had an interesting concept and possible room for expansion. Unfortunately, thanks to the cluttered pacing of the first volume, the trio get very little development to their motives and backstory and end up lacking as much as individual personalities or even ''names'' [[spoiler: before they're all abruptly killed off by Ootsuki towards the end.]]
