* BrokenBase: Some dislike how the crossover primarily centered around Hercules, who isn't really one of Marvel's A-list superheroes, instead of Thor as the main hero. Although Thor was also prominent in the crossover as part of the new God Squad, this just makes some fans even more irritated as he's reduced to a lesser role. However, others, especially fans of Hercules, like that he's finally getting more spotlight and found it interesting to have a relatively supporting character in Marvel become the main hero of a crossover.

* BaseBreakingCharacter: Amatsu-Mikaboshi AKA the Chaos King is usually seen to be a rather forgettable GenericDoomsdayVillain who only existed to provide a universe-level threat, similar to other more well-regarded villains like Thanos. However, some actually like him for his [[EvilIsCool creepy and cool design]] as well as his connection to Japanese mythology.

* FridgeLogic: As listed below in IdiotPlot, Eternity cannot help the heroes fight Mikaboshi because the latter is "the void against which (Eternity) is defined", meaning Eternity cannot exist if Mikaboshi is defeated or destroyed. But the reliance on that balance logically goes both ways, which would mean the entire storyline is Mikaboshi being TooDumbToLive.

* IdiotPlot: When Eternity finally appears in the crossover, he refuses to fight Mikaboshi because he can't exist without him even if he is threatening to destroy the universe. Although it might sound justified at first, it really just falls flat when you realize that if Mikaboshi destroyed all of a reality, Eternity would be erased along with it, so he really doesn't have much to lose by fighting Mikaboshi. Also, if it's really true that Mikaboshi can't exist without Eternity, what exactly would happen to him if he killed him?

* SoOkayItsAverage: The general consensus for the crossover seems to be that it's not really bad or good, but rather somewhere in between. The fact that it mainly focused around Hercules rather than the more prominent Thor also brought it some criticism.

The fact that it mainly focused around Hercules rather than the more prominent Thor also brought it some criticism. It also tends to be one of the most forgotten about of Marvel's annual comic-wide crossovers.

* HilariousInHindsight: ''Music/IronSavior'''s song "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60wI3K995Ig Prisoner of the Void]]", from 1998. "Have I returned from the dead, a lightning was striking my head, Clarity's filling my mind, I am refined. Unlock the gate to reality, Leaving the maze to be free, Tangled in a realm of fantasy and dreams, Blinded by delusion and pain I must escape - break the chain. Countless years of existence in the cold, Now I'm at the mercy, of the one I've once controlled. From far beyond the ending of all time, I saw the light saving me from the night, Eternal slave your master has returned, Obey and release me, The prisoner of the void"
