* FunnyAneurysmMoment: Calvin, overreacting as usual in the 2009 episode "Invasion", claims that "Japan is going to fall into the ocean!" A year later, Japan found itself at the mercy of the ocean.

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The duo grabbing hats and canes for a brief (as in ''two seconds'') dance in "The Photo Man".

* IdiotBall: The protagonists, who are usually quite GenreSavvy, don't always realize that one of Calvin's inventions could completely avert a conflict. Particularly egregrious is "Nighty Shut Up!", where the solution to Calvin's insomnia is to use the Time Pauser to sleep as long as he likes. This only comes at the end of the episode, while it probably wasn't very hard to figure out at all!

* {{Padding}}: Season 1 had a RunningGag where Hobbes would misinterpret something Calvin said or did, and Calvin would retort. The duo would then argue for a painfully long amount of time about something with no meaning to the plot. This has thankfully been phased out.

* WhatAnIdiot: Calvin attempts to fix a satellite dish ''when a tornado is coming.''

*** What's more, a throwaway gag from one New Year's strip has Hobbes asking Calvin if their parents celebrate the new year. Calvin notes that their idea of a party is "mixing regular coffee in with the decaf." Then there's "New Year, New Disasters", which has ''Calvin'' invited to a New Year's party, while Calvin's parents [[DrowningMySorrows drown their sorrows]] in cider.
