* RealismInducedHorror: This is the reason why Tyler Wittebane, and by extension, the extremist right-wing values he holds steadfast to, are so horrifying. In stark contrast to All For One's CardCarryingVillain schtick too unlikely to be encountered in real life, Wittebane's bigotry, manipulation, position of power, hypocrisy, and persistent belief that he's in the right is chillingly realistic. Many people like Tyler Wittebane exist in real life, not even his own family is exempt from his prejudice. Not to mention, history has many, many examples of discrimination against minority groups like LGBT and non-whites, ranging from "mere" prejudice to outright genocide, abusing freedom of speech to do so without legal consequences.

** Superpowers aside, being the victim of bigotry and hate crimes, instigated by people like the Wittebane Church are something to be legitimately concerned about. The story shows in many cases that people will take extreme measures to deal with what they believe is a problem and how even a child can be a victim of it. Just ask former victims and their family members.

* NightmareFuel: Luz Noceda has Quirk? Cool! Her Quirk is All For One? Bad. She has All For One's spirit living inside her mind? Really, really Bad!
** A Mild one in chapter 1, Luz wakes up and finds little holes in the palms of her hands that she that fit her finger through. While Luz is fascinated by it, when she shows them to her mother, Camila is understandably alarmed and immediately takes her to a doctor, where other kids her age have superpowers. The hospital confirms Luz is fine, but quite a shock for any parent.
** In chapter 3, Rodger Maxwell, governor of Luz's state, has her and 32 other kids going to Reality Check Summer Camp kidnapped to be put in a Death Game with, as far as anyone could tell, is supported by the government. They're essentially forcing children to murder each other, on the pretences of turning the survivors into super soldiers, under the threat of being gunned down if they try to escape with their families and loved ones that sent them to a normal summer camp none the wiser.
--> '''Luz''': ''This isn't a game…. This is murder with extra steps!''
** In Chapter 4, Maxwell also adds the incentive of a cash prize of $1.1 Billion, given a free pass to use their power whenever they want in public of Connecticut and the promise that ''any'' crimes the kids commit in the Death Game will be swept under the rug, playing to their {{Greed}}. Luz is especially alarmed for, as far as she could tell, everyone else in the room had stronger, better powers than her.
** When Luz first meets All For One in her sleep, she finds herself in a dark void with nothing but a fireplace and 2 red leather chairs, with him waiting for her stating he knows who she is despite the 2 having never met before, noting he gave her CreepyUncle vibes (Ironically that's one the few crimes he's NOT guilty of). There’s no way Luz is ready to have that manipulative monster in her mind. If she ever falls asleep, then he would be there, waiting to speak to her. Luz compares it to like a Nightmare on Elm Street situation, just without the threat of dying... yet.
** Even when she's wake, he can still [[HearingVoices talk to her]] while causing her headaches.
** In chapter 5, Shigaraki explains to Luz that their Quirk allows them to steal other Quirks, rendering their victims powerless while increasing their own power, something that Luz is aghast to do, especially at the risk of causing them to go brain dead. All For One claims that their Quirk gives the bearer an inherent addiction to stealing Quirks even if means hurting others, but Luz has no idea if he's outright lying to encourage her to start gaining Quirks or [[VillainsNeverLie actually telling the truth]].
** In chapter 7, Luz realises [[BigBad The Governor]] [[ILied doesn’t plan to give any of the money he promised away]]…. The moment the Death Game is finished, he’s either going to forcibly recruit the teenagers to the military as a super-powered ChildSoldier or LeaveNoSurvivors.
** There's also hints that Luz's Quirk (or even All For One's spirit) is slowly corrupting her. Especially this part:
--> ''And while she didn’t realize it, a smirk came across her face. A small, toothy grin, as only one poisonous thought, filled her mind.''
--> '''Luz''': ''Once this is over… The Governor is going to pay for this with his '''life'''.''
** When Luz takes Julia's Quirk at her request, its described detail how painful it is. Afterwards she's so grateful that she acts as if Luz's first official cult member. If that wasn't bad enough, The Governor witness it from his security camera. In chapter 9, it reveals his BattleRoyale Death Camp wasn't sanctioned by the government and is running it illegally out of fear and FantasticRacism. He also plans to make Luz take all of the powers of those in Connecticut while contained in the forest, [[WouldHurtAChild before then bombing the area with Luz inside.]]
** In the second half of chapter 10, part of Luz's team gets massacred by the [[EnemyMine other 2 teams]], the Heaven’s Devils and Foxtrot, working together, 21 against 6. It starts, without so much as a warning, with one of lookouts on top of the team base's wall getting [[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice impaled through the heart]] with an [[KillItWithIce ice shard]]. If that didn't kill him, the fall from wall certainly did, right front of his team.
** The second casualty to meet a grizzly fate is TheMedic of the team that gets '''burned alive''' by a beam of light, screaming in agony as she dies.
** The third one charged into the expanding smoke to attack... not long after he receives an OffWithHisHead treatment. Somehow he is '''still alive''' screaming in rage and confusion only to be put down not long afterwards with a head stomp.
** With 2 others making a LastStand, [[BroughtDownToNormal Julia]] tries to book it to warn the rest of the team... only to be ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice from behind by [[EvilRedhead Darlene]] and bleed after being stomped on. After she finally expires, the ringleader, Kennedy, with a PsychoticSmirk delivers LastDisrespects by giving her an OffWithHisHead treatment and callously kicking her severed head like a soccer ball ForTheEvulz. This carnage was all done because the attackers were promised $15 billion by [[ConsummateLiar The Governor]] to get rid of Luz who wasn't even there at the time.
** Not only can she use the Quirks she's stolen for herself but Luz can actually combine them that Shigaraki can, allowing her to do some rather horrific stuff: while killing Kennedy, she combines no less than seven different Quirks to turn her arm into a gigantic monstrosity made up of blades, hypertrophied muscles and wrapped in thorny vines. This attack completely destroys the boy's head. All this while she's nowhere near her full potential, meaning that she can be even MORE dangerous than that in the future! Hell, this move is similar to the attack All For One used against All Might in their Final Battle, giving an eerie feeling that our AllLovingHero will turn into a VillainProtagonist.

** There's also hints that Luz's Quirk (or rather All For One's spirit) is slowly corrupting her. Especially this part:
--> ''And while she didn’t realize it, a smirk came across her face. A small, toothy grin, as only one poisonous thought, filled her mind.''
--> '''Luz''': ''Once this is over… The Governor is going to pay for this with his '''life'''.''

There’s no way Luz is ready to have that manipulative monster in her mind, especially as he can talk to her while she's wake causing her headaches.
** In chapter 5, Shigaraki explains to Luz that their Quirk allows them to steal other Quirks, rendering their victims powerless while increasing their own power, something that Luz is aghast to do.
