According to the theme song, Lily (also called [[SpellMyNameWithAnS Lilly]]) stumbles upon an old book in her family's attic. A small sapient dragon has been sleeping on the book for countless years, but just as she settles down to read it he's awakened. Once they've got to know each other, the dragon, named [[SomeCallMeTim Hector]], teaches Lily how to use magic by combining an amulet in a bracelet with the vague pictographic scripture in what turns out to be a spell-book.

An episode will typically start with Lily going about her day when a problem, situation or puzzle crops up that she wants to solve, whereupon she'll turn to [[SmallNameBigEgo Hector]] about discovering, first-hand, what the solution is. This will typically involve traveling through time and space to the location of the issue at hand. Lily's bracelet will permit her to cast a couple of spells on location to resolve an issue that may or may not correlate to the original conundrum. Once a problem on location is resolved, the bracelet will flash blue to alert Lily and Hector to the fact that they'll be sent back home within a minute or so.
