Eventually most animals successfully fought for their freedom, however a minority of them continued to be drugged up and stupefied to become food (as seen in the "Chickens" episode). Also, some members of wild animal species (like deer) are similarly drugged up and then released to the woods, so that they can be shot with impunity by hunters.
