Added DiffLines:

* EarlyGameHell: It's not out of the ordinary for Soulslikes to start you with few to no tools, but ''Steelrising'' starts you off with next to ''nothing''. You begin with no parry mechanic, no blocking (unless you choose the specific weapon that has it as a special move), a very stuttery dodge that takes a fair amount of experience to get familiar with, and little in the way of equipment against enemies that can kill you in four hits. There is a ''long'' run between the first save point and the ostensible WarmUpBoss, who you have to kill to open the ''second'' save point.

* MultipleEndings: Three in total, with the most significant difference being the individual who would become regent to Henri V. Depending on how many side quests the player has completed and how, either the Maquis de Lafayette or Maximilien de Robespierre (if none of Lafayette's quests were done at all) will win the position. If the player did complete Lafayette's quests but [[spoiler:revealed his part in the conspiracy, Mirabeau will become regent instead.]]

* AbledInTheAdaptation: The real Jean-Paul Marat suffered from a debilitating skin disease that left him confined to his medicine-filled bathtub in the years that led up to the French Revolution. His game counterpart is conspicuously healthy and able to run around an Automat-infested Paris with no hindrance.

* GrapplingHookPistol: The Bishop's Hook, an upgrade Aegis gets for beating the Bishop of the Cité boss. A more decidedly unusual example than most, Aegis' grappling hook is installed into her right leg, and actuated by her kicking her heel up at a potential target.

Added DiffLines:

* MundaneUtility: Of all the enemies Aegis faces, only the Guard and Titan class automats were intended for use in combat. The rest are domestic servants whose appliances have been repurposed for combat. Codex entries explain the original purpose of the machine and how it's been modified into a killing machine. For example:
** Chefs are EliteMook that, as suggested, formerly handled food preparation. The [[ElementalWeapon Frost]] version is singled out as what amounts to walking refrigerator.
** Courier Arachnids were used to transport letters and small packages; as a result, they always drop an item on death.
** Aegis herself was originally designed to be a dancer, meant to entertain the king and queen's guests. This explains why she's so complex and articulated compared to the utilitarian design of most other automats.

Added DiffLines:

* StatusEffects: The game features four, three of which are elemental. All status effects build up a gauge that triggers the effect when full. Increasing the Elemental Alchemy stat affects how quickly the elemental status effects build up and how long they last.
** Fire causes the affected character to take constant damage over time. The total damage can be reduced by dodging to blow the flames out (usually three or four times).
** Frost freezes the character in place, rendering it helpless. Aegis can shake off the ice faster by using any button that spends stamina.
** Fulmination (lightning) causes a long lasting debuff that increases all damage taken. The duration can only be reduced by using an item, but Fulmination doesn't actually do anything unless the character gets hit.
** Immobilization is a passive ability for most Agility scaling weapons. It causes the lock-in indicator to fill up; once filled, the enemy is stunned, giving Aegis a window of a few seconds for a CriticalHit. Unlike the elemental status effects, Aegis is not subject to this one.

* RidiculouslyHumanRobot: Aegis, for good reason. Since she was to be an artificial dancer first and foremost, and not built for war like the other Automats, de Vaucanson designed her to be as articulate and lifelike as possible to suit her functions, as well as to give his daughter Athénaïs a companion she could bond with. Her remarkable sentience is later revealed to be an effect of [[spoiler:Athénaïs' soul driving her body]], making her a "human robot" in all but name.

* NewGamePlus: As is staple for many Souls-like titles, ''Steelrising'' also allows for this after beating the game once. Enemies are appropriately stronger in New Game+ and also drop more Anima energy accordingly, though the level caps for Aegis and her weapons' upgrades are also raised to match. That said, the added challenge only applies once and will not scale any further beyond that, unlike in typical Souls-like fashion.

The final piece is [[FinalBoss the Iron Queen]], who represents the Queen.

* BladeBelowTheShoulder: All of Aegis's weapons are stored on (or in) hardpoints on her forearms when not in use, but Claws and Fans stay attached to her arms even when she's attacking with them.

Added DiffLines:

* WolverineClaws: Claws are another weapon-type for Aegis - they're sets of forearm-mounted blades that (unusually for this trope) are used more for stabbing than slashing. They have the fastest attack speed, highest Dexterity scaling, and best Immobilisation buildup of any weapons in the game, but have low-to-nonexistent Strength scaling and the least Impact (on-hit stagger) of any weapon type, meaning that you absolutely cannot rely on stunlocking anything but the weediest enemies and have to rely on hit-and-run tactics instead.

* ProperlyParanoid: Marat believes that long before the crisis of Louis's attack, Lafayette had an elaborate plan to raise the National Guard and put himself at its head for his own glorification. And it turns out that Marat is completely and totally correct -- Aegis can find documents proving exactly that. It's not ''quite'' as bad as Marat thinks (he believes Lafayette deliberately sacrificed the men in the National Guard who were slaughtered by Louis's automats, and that's apparently not true), but he's accurate in the broad strokes.

* EvilChancellor: The last person in King Louis' good graces by the time of the game is the Comte de Cagliostro, a mystic intent on advancing his own power and wealth at France's expense. Notably, while he's an absolutely appalling person who makes a habit of encouraging authority figures to engage in greater evil for his own personal gain, he's more of an enabler of existing cruelties and injustices than the true source of villainy in pre-revolutionary France. In particular, he and the king form a fairly balanced BigBadDiumverate.
