Abigail had always been the cute, innocent girl next door. She is the soft-spoken, doe-eyed-deer kind of freshman. She’s sweet, helpful and gullible—and there’s nothing she can do about it. Growing up, she obeyed all of her parents rules and was never one to cause a fight with a friend. Despite her appearance, Abigail is one of the smartest people around. Her parents wanted her to go on and do great things, but there was one thing that held them back; the money. Even with both parents working multiple jobs, there wasn’t enough money to just scrape by. Abigail would always answer the phone to hear their landlord threatening to evict them from their tiny little apartment and there were weeks that she would walk around with a flashlight, or shower at school, because they hadn’t made enough money to pay their bills that month. It was an awful way to grow up, but she loved her parents and she’d never hated them for not being able to make it by. She’d managed to get into St. Mary’s on the scholarship program, and now her main focus is keeping her grades up. Yet she can feel herself slipping, because for once she doesn’t want to be Abigail, the kid genius. She wants to be like everyone else.

André is the nice-guy of the freshman class—he waves when he passes you in the hallway, he’ll hold the door open when you’re walking behind him, and he’ll meet you after class to explain something if he understands it and you don’t. He knows he’s destined to just be another face in the freshman class but he wants to make himself more memorable than that. He comes from a large supportive family that had to pool together to afford to send him to a school as prestigious and expensive as St. Mary’s and he swears he’ll make sure that all of their support and money isn’t wasted. He and his best friend, Jeff Hartman, are popular in their class for being the typical good-natured kind of guys and he’s proud of the reputation they’ve built. He’s very open about himself and his views—what he likes, doesn’t like, will or won’t try. He figures, being open to new people and experiences will help him build more friendships and strengthen them as they find things they share in common. Since he’s so social and outgoing, he occasionally gets anxious if he’s alone for too long but it’s a problem he’s starting to work on. He knows he can’t be surrounded by people all of the time but he’d rather be with friends than without.

Anna has always been the goody two shoes type. Following her parent’s orders, getting straight A’s, joining every club possible. She’s the clumsy type that falls head over heels for the popular seniors guys at St. Mary’s, but they would never fall for a nerd like herself. She’s too busy noticing the upperclassmen to care much about her own grade and hopes that it doesn’t hurt her social life too much. She’s just waiting for her big break when she’ll get noticed by the in-crowd at St. Mary’s. Until then, however, she’ll stick to writing her dreams out in her diary. A wallflower, she hears a lot of what’s going on at St. Mary’s without actually being involved in it and hopes that someday everyone will know her name the way she knows all of theirs.

Shy and reserved, Annette always knew she was lucky to have Lillian’s outgoing and friendly personality. She’s afraid of being forgotten and sliding through the cracks but she’s not used to drawing attention to herself. Tony was only six years old the first time the doctor told his mother that he had Leukemia. He was so young he didn’t understand what the word even meant, all he knew was that his mother broke down and sobbed right there in that room. His treatment began the next week, and most of his life until age ten was a blur of different hospitals and different treatments, just to try and get him to live past seventeen. When he turned eleven, the doctors told his mother what she’d been praying for, “There’s no sign of cancer.” He spent Middle School trying to act like he wasn’t just the kid who’d had cancer. His hair grew back eventually, and he wasn’t so sickly looking due to the constant Chemotherapy he’d undergone. No matter how hard he tried, it seemed like everyone wouldn’t let it go. He was babied by everyone, as if he would drop dead at the mention of the word cancer. He was tired of it, and he just wanted what everyone else had… Normality. So he begged his mom to let him go to a different school. He wanted a fresh start, where no one knew him. He was so excited to be accepted into St. Mary’s. It wasn’t just a new school, it was a place where no one needed to know about his cancer.

Anthony is a wild guy. He’ll go to a party, try anything, and do anything to get the one thing he’s felt like he’s been missing; a chance at life. Despite what the doctors say, he believes that he won’t live a long, full life like everyone else. He wants to take in as much as he can. He wants to die thinking “At least I did that much.” He’s known to come across as a flirt when it comes to girls, and he’s an easy going guy to be friends with. He tries to keep away from the overly dramatic that run around the school, because he’s already dealt with enough drama in his life, and he just wants to tackle his bucket list with as little problems as possible.

Ashton’s not happy to acknowledge the fact that he’s falling off of the pedestal he’s lived on his whole life. Used to being the hot-shot, center of attention, coming to a school where no one knows him was a reality slap in the face. He’s unfamiliar with the setting of the school, with the weather, and with what school’s like when he doesn’t have a sport ruling his life. Born and raised to be a hockey star, Ashton’s slowly coming to terms with the fact that the sport just doesn’t matter to anyone here and Ashton feels like he’s losing his identity. He’s bitter about the move and hasn’t yet found his footing, much to his dismay. He’s holding onto the hope that he’ll go back to Minnesota soon and enroll in the high school he was supposed to attend but his chances are looking slimmer the longer he’s at St. Mary’s. While he still has the occasional wise crack or outburst, he’s struggling to make friends when most of them don’t know how to skate or what “stick handling” means. At home he was picky with girls, always going for those that could understand him and his passion, and here’s no different. The only problem is that he’s in Virginia with a Minnesota mind and it’s not close enough to get by with.

Austin is the new kid on campus, but that doesn’t stop him from being the crazy, fun-loving kid he really is. He is known at the school because of his older sister, Ashley and he looks up to her for help and advice when he needs it. Austin has his eye on a few older ladies but he knows he will never have a chance with them. He’s a flirt, sometimes by choice, sometimes by happenstance. Girls are attracted to him by his looks and he’s glad for the attention. The male population at St. Mary’s disregards Austin for his scrawny size, but, in his eyes, whatever he’s doing works, so why change? Austin’s pretty carefree, through with worrying about what people think of him. The way he sees it, he is the way he is and that works out fine for most. He’s loud, a little cocky, and knows that a charming grin will make any freshman girl weak at the knees. He has less luck with the older ladies, to his dismay, but it doesn’t stop him from trying. He does well enough in school, prefers dancing and singing over sports, and tries to man up and be there for her when she needs it. For the most part, Austin’s just in for the ride and enjoying the occasional spotlight for being the resident freshman pretty boy.

In middle school, Brie was a completely mediocre student. Consistent high C’s, low B’s, moderate interest in her classes, half-assed attendance in clubs and sports. It wasn’t necessarily a conscious choice—she just never found anything to be passionate about. If you looked at her on paper, Brie was forgettable, too close to the average of everything to stick out. With two successful older siblings constantly overshadowing her, she just couldn’t find a way to care. Until she came to St. Mary’s. Brielle went from an incredibly uncaring and impassive middle schooler to a freshman who was eager to experience everything she had missed out on. But when she learned that she’d only been accepted because her mother slept with the headmaster, it lit a fire in her. She self-titled herself as the “spokeswoman for the fresh meat class” and often goes out of her way to include the few freshman that roam the halls of St. Mary’s. Loyal and stubborn, she’s learned the value of friends and does whatever she can to maintain the handful of friendships she has. She still harbors a lot of hatred for her mother but keeps those feelings under tight wraps. Currently, she is eager to earn her place at St. Mary’s and will do everything possible to last at the school for more than just her freshman year.

Look out St. Mary’s, Connor Fitz, your all american teenage boy has arrived. Coming from a rich family, Connor has always gotten what he wanted. He’s spoiled but, unlike most boarding school kids, isn’t snobby. He’s quite kind and shy when meeting new people but once you get to know him, he forms quick friendships. He’s only had a few girlfriends and they all end up in heart break, but what his exes don’t know is his heart ache brings great music to the ears of his fans. Connor has been singing since he could talk and has the voice of an angel. He’s sure to make all the girls fall for him with his cute boy charm. Connor’s life hasn’t always been so great though. Connor’s not an attention hog but, if you are paying attention, he’ll definitely steal the show. There’s something about how modest he is, regardless of his wealth, that draws people to him and he does his best to make sure he’s always being genuine. He doesn’t have enemies because he doesn’t rub anyone the wrong way or step on toes. Unlike his sister who is known for getting what she wants, Connor’s more go-with-the-flow and would rather enjoy things as they happen. Charismatic, friendly and fairly outgoing, Connor’s on the right track to being that guy that everyone wants to befriend.

If he could, Dennis would’ve enrolled under a different last name when he came to St. Mary’s. He loves his family and isn’t ashamed of them…but he isn’t one of them. He isn’t a Reed. Not the type they want. His family has been huge in the success of St. Mary’s biggest rival school, Georgetown Prep, and his family is the reason that Dennis knew he couldn’t go there. He isn’t exceptional at anything. Or loud. Or personable. Or charismatic. He wants to figure out what he is and he thinks he can do it at the one place he knows he can get a fresh start. Dennis is a humble kid. He has to be with such big personalities and egos at home. Now that he’s at St. Mary’s, he’s a bit tentative and hopes that he can find his footing. He isn’t particularly good at making friends or talking to girls, but he’s quick to learn. He’ll watch and then do something after making an informed decision about it. Diana’s family was never really close. Her little brother liked pretending she didn’t exist, and it seemed like their parents were too busy drowning themselves in booze and fighting the nights away. Growing up, Diana had learned from a young age how people truly were, and that the only person you could really trust was yourself. Despite her brother’s tendency to act as if he disliked her, Diana had always looked out for him no matter what, but if he ever asked about it, she’d deny the whole thing. Diana was never much of a social butterfly. She’s awkward and withdrawn but, if she gets comfortable, she can be witty and snarky. She doesn’t put a lot of weight or effort on friendships or relationships and is okay going a few days without meaningful interactions. She’s not secretly pining for it on the inside either—she’s comfortable with herself the way she is. She interacts with her brother every once in a while and, while caring for him on the inside, doesn’t show too much affection otherwise.
