* AmbiguousDisorder: Not me. I use this trope frequently with my characters.

* DysfunctionJunction: Favorite trope.

* LoveHurts: It was... pretty complicated. It lasted until I just ''stopped'' caring about her... Oh, what the hell. I'll just laugh at myself...
* NightmareFuel: Love creating these in my books.

* AmbiguousDisorder: Not me. I use this trope frequently with my characters [[note: Although I do research on various mental illnesses, there are times when I need to take some liberties with it, so I don't really want to specify what exact mental illness my characters have]]
* AntiHero/AntiVillain: However, I can appreciate standard heroes and villains.

** CastFullOfCrazy: ...Especially if it reaches this level.

And they are not forming any type of unified government any time soon, since most of them are pirates, while those who are not have become a diaspora of other countries.[[note: Republic of Seabrethren is technically a goverment, but it is a highly dysfunctional one. In fact, it's closer to anarchistic wasteland (wastesea?) than a democratic republic]]
* OceanPunk: Technology level of Seabrethren. Also, Seabrethren after the fall of the empire are basically pirates as they have lost too many things to rebuild their empire.

The only characteristics of this genre that this work does not follow is human dominance (Althrenia has two continents, one of which is not controlled by humans. Besides, continent of Belzarkia (the one where humans live) is pretty evenly matched), evil or bat-shit crazy sorcerers (it's case-by-case situation, but mostly, sorcerers are a bit eccentric, nothing more).

''Deviance Complex'': The superhero story I might publish sooner than expected. For more information about the series itself, visit {{Literature/Deviance Complex}}.

!Joseph Stark

Arguably THE main character of this series. He can summon weapons (that look etheral).

* AbusiveParents: To be more accurate, abusive aunt. Still, she left emotional scars on him that will haunt Joseph forever.
* ActionHero: He uses his summoned weapons to fight his enemies.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Victim of this in both human community and miracle community.
* AnAxeToGrind: His favorite weapons are twin small axes.
* AntiHero: Joseph Stark will do anything for justice, even though he has lines he won't cross.
* AntiVillain: But, this might actually make him an anti villain, since he does commit some heinous acts for justice.
* AmbiguousDisorder: There are many things that plague Joseph's mind, including trust issues, self-hatred seen in no other person, constant hallucinations and nightmares, many cases of cognitive dissonance (especially during school days), his non-interaction with people (except for his friends and family), having some traits of black-and-white mentality.
* TheAtoner: One of his motivation to fight for justice.
* [[spoiler: TheBerserker: Succumbs to this in Vale Trilogy.]]
* BiTheWay: He is bisexual, and in fact shows attraction towards David Mercer and Elizabeth Engel.
* BreakableWeapons: His summoned weapons are usually weaker in terms of durability than real weapons.
* ByronicHero: Joseph Stark is very much this, though he doesn't have arrogance and constantly doubts about whether he's doing the right thing. Also, most view him as a madman, not a misunderstood hero.
* ChaoticGood: Joseph dislikes authority. Besides that, he finds himself in conflict with authority figures more often than he could count. However, he is not a rebel for rebellion's sake, so he is more in a line between this trope and NeutralGood. [[note: To be honest, it is really hard for me to pin down Joseph's alignment, so I'll just leave it like that for now.]]
* CharacterDevelopment
* CombatPragmatist: Joseph isn't the strongest among miracles, but he is considered as ''one of the most dangerous'' because of this trope.
* CoolPeopleRebelAgainstAuthority: Subverted and (maybe) deconstructed. First, Joseph does not fight authority because just because they are in charge. Second, he fights rebels as much as he fights the authority figures (or those who follow them). And finally, it is acknowledged that those in charge can be reasonable. I will specifically try hard to destroy this trope in my work.
* CosmicPlaything: His luck is abysmal, even compared to other unlucky individuals. And I can confirm that his sole reason of existence is suffering.
* TheCynic: He doesn't exactly have an optimistic worldview.
* CynicismCatalyst:
* DarkAndTroubledPast: His life is suffering, and being a superpowered individual played a part in it.
* DespairEventHorizon:
* {{Determinator}}: There are many moments of doubt, but in the end, Joseph won't, or rather, can't give up fighting for justice and miracle-human peace.
* [[spoiler: TheDreaded: Evolves into this gradually. For both agents and ''miracles''.]]
* DualWielding: He just loves it, since, according to him, two weapons is better than one.
* ForGreatJustice: He wants a world where miracles and humans can live in coexistence. However, he knows that his methods can get him nowhere. Still, he can at least help someone else do it by doing the dirty work.
* GoodIsNotNice: While not a Jerkass to everyone, he does insult and chew out those he doesn't like.
* GoodIsNotSoft: Willing to break people to save people.
* [[spoiler: GunsAkimbo: The same reason for his DualWielding.]]
* GuysAreSlobs: Inverted. He is one of the characters who is deeply worried about hygiene and tidiness (partly because of his background, partly because he has a cook mindset).
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Subverted, since Joseph is cynical and so anti-heroic that he can be considered as a villain. But, he is still a good guy in heart.
* TheMentallyDisturbed: Joseph's mind is always on a verge of breaking down. [[spoiler: Especially in ''Vale Trilogy'']]
* ParentalAbandonment: His parents were murdered. And that's the only thing Joseph remembers about them due to the trauma. [[spoiler: And the fact their murderer was Sarah, his aunt.]]
* RealMenCook: He is essentially a TeamChef. Justified, due to Sarah's alcoholism, he was left to his own devices and was forced cook himself. Now, he is considered as SupremeChef and ChefOfIron, along with [[FeminineWomenCanCook Mary Engel.]]
* [[SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan Single Man Seeks Good Woman/Man]]: Joseph is a deconstruction of this trope, since he loves David and Elizabeth because they can give him love and comfort, which he desperately craves to not go insane.
* SecretlySelfish: Although Joseph does indeed fight for the greater good because he wants to help victims of the conflict (and make up for his "mistakes" in the past), he wants to become a hero so that he can be loved by many and get revenge on people like his aunt ("villains"). At first, he struggles with it (due to being NotSoDifferent with one of his enemies), but eventually he comes to term with it and accepts it. Joseph then overcomes this flaw... [[spoiler: but not in a good way.]]
* SweetTooth: Joseph loves chocolate, to be more precise, averting the whole RealMenHateSugar trope.
* {{Tsundere}}: When it comes to love.
* ViolenceIsTheOnlyOption: Believer of this, despite numerous attempt at denying it.
* WalkingArmory: His another power. He can summon ''any'' kind of weapon.
* WeaponOfChoice: Dual axes and dual shotguns.

!Joel Smith:

Deuteragonist of the series. The first miracles of his age that Joseph meets. His power is earth manipulation.

* AmbiguousDisorder: There is something odd about Joel. No one in-universe has any idea what is ''exactly'' wrong with him.
* BestFriend: Becomes Joseph's best friend, since Joel is the first miracle kid Joseph encountered.

''Deviance Complex'': The superhero story I might publish sooner than expected. For List of ''Culture'' characters:

!Han Shi-Yun:

Prince of Calmarren, TheKingdom of the North, part of Four Kingdoms in the south (the continent is pretty big). After the expedition he led pretty much failed (actually, he orchestrated the failure of it), Shi-Yun was taken in by Dark Moonkin government. From there, he meets his first companion, [[MadScientist Larina]] and begins his adventure across the continent.

* AmnesiacHero: Shi-Yun pretends to be this during his first contact with Dark Moonkinto get
more information about the series itself, visit {{Literature/Deviance Complex}}.

!Joseph Stark

Arguably THE main character of
from them. He puts on this series. He can summon weapons (that look etheral).

* AbusiveParents: To be more accurate, abusive aunt. Still, she left emotional scars on him
facade when he meets Calmarrenians (part being a {{Gadfly}}, part avoiding the search party that will haunt Joseph forever.
is probably looking for him).
* ActionHero: He uses AntiHero: Type 3 (with a mix of Type 1)
* BadassBookworm: Downplayed, as
his summoned weapons physical skills are not extraordinary, but he can still use his cunning and intellect to fight defeat his enemies.
* CharacterDevelopment
* CynicismCatalyst:
* DarkAndTroubledPast: His life is suffering, and being a superpowered individual played a part in it.
* DespairEventHorizon:
* {{Determinator}}: There are many moments of doubt, but in the end, Joseph won't, or rather, can't give
Making up fighting for justice and miracle-human peace.
* [[spoiler: GunsAkimbo: The same reason
for his DualWielding.]]
mediocre sword-fighting skills.
* GuysAreSlobs: Inverted. He is one CoolSword: Sword of the characters who is deeply worried about hygiene Green Lizard. It can change its shape and tidiness (partly because of his background, partly because he has form depending on the wielder (in Shi-Yun's case, it's a cook mindset).
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Subverted, since Joseph is cynical
rapier). It glows green in full power and so anti-heroic that he can be considered as a villain. But, he it enhances user's power. But it is still a good guy in heart.
* TheMentallyDisturbed: Joseph's mind is always on a verge
not really powerful under the hands of breaking down. [[spoiler: mediocre wariror like this prince.
* DeadpanSnarker:
Especially in ''Vale Trilogy'']]
* ParentalAbandonment: His parents were murdered. And that's the only thing Joseph remembers about them due to the trauma. [[spoiler: And the fact their murderer was Sarah,
towards his aunt.]]
* SecretlySelfish: Although Joseph does indeed fight for the greater good because he wants to help victims of the conflict (and make up
family (except for his "mistakes" in the past), he wants to become a hero so that he can be loved by many and get revenge on people like his aunt ("villains"). At first, he struggles with it (due to being NotSoDifferent with one of his enemies), but eventually he comes to term with it and accepts it. Joseph then overcomes this flaw... [[spoiler: but not in a good way.]]
twin sister).

* BewareTheSillyOnes: He may say and do some (many, actually) things, doesn't mean he is formidable. Ultimately, downplayed.
* CloudCuckoolander: Joel is... not the most straightforward of the cast.

** To put it in perspective... Light Moonkin really glorify sex (....yeah. It is a comedy series, after all), since it is an act of showing ultimate form of happiness and an act of cleansing their soul. When a rape is committed, everyone blames the victim for ''not'' enjoying sex and are considered as a criminal. Even ''refusing'' sex is considered rude, unless one has a really good reason not to have it (and, for them, consent doesn't count).
** However, the above mentioned example happens quite rarely, as most Light Moonkin do not object of having sex with anyone, and in fact, ''greatly'' enjoy it. \n\n!Seabrethren

Walking marine life people, who established nomadic sea empire and earn shit-tons of money by sea trading (to be more precise, most countries need to go through Langar-Ulast (aforementioned sea empire) to trade properly. But that is history, since the empire fell due to the fact that most countries were fed up with the fact that they had to pay for just crossing the sea and formed an alliance seen in no other occasion to wage war on it. Now... seabrethren are just nomad/pirates. Most of them have let go of their past, but, of course, there are always those who clamor the return of the Langar-Ulast, no matter how futile it is (crazier ones claim that the ''whole'' Althrenia is this, since, according to their logic, the world is composed mostly of seas, therefore they must rule).
