* BTeamSequel: ''Rise of the Lycans'' was directed by Patrick Tatopoulos, rather than Len Wiseman, who had been the VFX supervisor on the previous two. ''Awakening'' was directed by Måns Magnus Mårlind, and ''Blood Wars'' by Anna Foerster (and the only film to have no screenplay involvement from Len Wiseman).

Added DiffLines:

* TroubledProduction: ''Awakening'' had been in development since 2009 but was not released until 2012 firstly because of script troubles; although Len Wiseman wrote a story outline, he ran into difficulties in creating additional material for ''Underworld'', because the first two films had originally just been one long script that was then split into two, and ''Rise of the Lycans'' a prequel with a ForegoneConclusion. Between 2009 and 2011, it went through multiple rewrites and entirely new drafts, and in addition to the four writers listed in the end credits, multiple other writers worked on drafts that weren't used and went uncredited. Despite all these rewrites, it went into production without a finished script, and so many of the earlier promotional materials include details not in the final film, since they were based on an early draft. Måns Magnus Mårlind and Bjorn Stein, who were brought on to direct very late in the process, admitted that nobody was "super happy" with the story, to the point that the original ending had to be thrown out midway through filming and a new one written on the spot. No one could agree on a clear tone, with the film initially going for a "wink wink" and more GenreSavvy direction, but later reverting to the seriousness that was more in line with the previous films. Len Wiseman was busy directing ''Film/TotalRecall2012'', and would often have to be called for help, and sometimes re-write a scene the night before it was to be filmed. The storyboards also show how entire action sequences were planned out but had to be cut before they were even filmed. These changes also caused several headaches for the special effects team, with VFX supervisor James [=McQuaide=] having no idea how to design all the CGI creatures until very late in post-production, explaining the movie's famously lacklustre rendering. It was notably NotScreenedForCritics, but remarkably became the highest grossing film in the franchise, even getting some praise for critics as well.

Added DiffLines:

** ''Blood Wars'' was intended to be an outright ContinuityReboot with the subtitle ''The New Generation'' before later getting changed to a sequel.

** Michael Sheen was ecstatic to come back for ''Rise of the Lycans'' because he loves the fantasy genre and calls the films "good fun".

* PropRecycling: One can notice several cases of lycans/werewolves losing only the top half of their head in "Rise of the Lycans". This is due to the special effects crew re-using the cosmetics used for William in "Evolution", who was gruesomely slain in the same way.

Added DiffLines:

* SparedByTheCut: The novelization for ''Rise of the Lycans'' kills off Luka, Sonja's handmaiden, who had assisted her in covering the affair up. She's not seen being killed off in the film nor the comic, suggesting she may have survived.

** Rhona Mitra loved playing a vampire so much that she wore her fake teeth when she wasn't filming, and kept them once they wrapped.
** Tony Curran likewise for ''Evolution'', so much so that his contract stipulated he would be able to keep his vampire teeth.
