* ActorInspiredElement: J. G. Hertzler was the one who pitched the idea of Martok's father not living to see his son's battlefield commission (to round out Martok's enduring grudge against Kor). He also successfully argued in favor of Martok toasting Kor's bravery, but ''not'' forgiving him (as decades of resentment are not so easily discarded, even for Klingons).

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: In the initial teleplay, Martok joined in with the crew's singing in Kor's memory in the final scene. Hertzler argued in favor of Martok ''not'' singing, feeling that while the character ''could'' toast Kor's sacrifice, the General also realistically couldn't forgive Kor even in death.

* CreatorsFavorite: This episode is unsurprisingly a favorite of both Michael Dorn and J.G. Hertzler.

* ThrowItIn: Martok's line about his father not living to see his son's battlefield commission wasn't in the initial teleplay. J.G. Hertzler pitched it to Ronald D. Moore, feeling it rounded out the character's resentment and anger towards Kor.

* DeletedScene: Quark sits at the bar, lamenting his failure with Ezri. Jake attempts to cheer him up by making him a drink. The scene would have gone between the scene where Quark hears Ezri talking about Kor and thinks she is talking about Worf, and the scene where he confronts her about her feelings. As Quark pours out his heart to Jake, Jake is getting flustered because he is trying to concentrate on making the drink, but Quark keeps distracting him, and he keeps getting it wrong, pouring it out and having to start again.
