Digory even questions who of the two of them is more sad over his mother's illness.

* When Digory meets Aslan for the first time, Digory wishes he could do something to help his mother and breaks down crying. What he doesn't expect is that Aslan has Digory look at him and realize that with all his powers and despite being someone to fear, and being basically an incarnation of God, all the suffering you go through in this world is something we're not meant for and this scene is meant to show that.
