* HappyEndingOverride: Happens ''twice'': The first one after the EsotericHappyEnding of the first series where the surviving characters make do with what they have and Hilda and Albeiro are looking forward for a fresh start with their newborn. However, in the first episode of the second series we see that the problems are just beginning and Catalina the Young is going to be caught in the crossfire.

* LoveDodecahedron: Catalina and Hernán Darío are in love but Gato Gordo is obsessed with her and would do anything to have her by his side, Titi also develops a crush on her but she ignores him and he turns to Martina, who falls for him even though her mother warns her against it, knowing what a casanova he is and how taken he is by both Catalinas, the Elder and the Young. On the other hand, Daniela is obsessed with Hernán Darío and does everything she can in trying to have him by her side, later on [[spoiler: the daughter of Catalina the Elder, Mariana, also falls for him and tricks him and everyone into thinking that he knocked her up, breaking his relationship with Catalina the Young. To further complicate things, in a desperate attempt to get truly pregnant and continue the ruse to tie Hernán Darío to her once and for all, she sleeps with Titi (who is crazy about her, especially after learning she's the daughter of the woman he loves) and ends up truly pregnant]]. It's quite messy but it's a mess worthy of a telenovela.

* ClearMyName: After helping Catalina and her family gain their freedom from prison, Daniel, a journalist, becomes the newest target for La Diabla, who has her people plant evidence incriminating him as a drug lord which prompts him to live on the run and in hiding while trying to find ways to prove his innocence.

* {{MacGuffin}}: The marriage license between Catalina the Elder and Marcial Barrera. During the second series it's presence is relevant to the plot as a way to take away the money La Diabla inherited after turning Marcial to the DEA. This document would demonstrate that Yésica was never legally married to him and all the assets would have to go to Catalina's mother, Hilda.

* {{MacGuffin}}: The marriage license between Catalina the Elder and Marcial Barrera. During the second series it's presence is relevant to the plot as a way to take away the money La Diabla inherited through the daughter she had with Marcial before turning him to the DEA.

* AmbitionIsEvil: La Diabla, mayor Manrique, the police chief and several other characters that appear are shown to let their greed and hunger for power get out of control stopping at nothing to achieve their goals.

* TookALevelInBadass: A lot of the characters that in the first season were shown to be pushed aside or didn't get involved in any sort of action, here are far more proactive and willing to face all sorts of hardships and battles to protect what they love. Also, in a meta level, the series as a whole from the second season onwards. It no longer focuses on the trials and tribulations of a naive young girl that wants to get implants to get far in life but it's shown that it was the starting point for a blood feud between families which manages to affect the entire city.

* OneSteveLimit: {Averted}. Not only do we have Catalina the Elder and Catalina the Young (who are half sisters) but in the most recent series [spoiler: Mariana, Catalina the Elder's teenage daughter, has given birth to a baby girl that she ''also'' decided to name Catalina]

The story begins with the end of the last series, with the death of Catalina Santana. We're shown the immediate aftermath of the tragedy and how the most important people in her life receive the news: Marcial shows indifference preferring to focus on his new wife, Yésica, and her pregnancy; La Diabla has her suspicions but quickly begins to plot to sell Marcial to the DEA and keep his fortune while Hilda and Albeiro are shocked with grief and guilt which in turn prompts Hilda to give birth to their child.

* TheDogBitesBack: After the many, many, 'many' times that Yésica and Daniela abused and mocked Catalina's family and friends, all finally have enough and plot ways to destroy La Diabla's empire with the help of a mystery ally.

** The second time happens at the beginning of the third series with the reveal that [[spoiler: Catalina the Elder is alive and working with the DEA and that while Yésica was caught and imprisoned in the United States, Daniela was left behind, leaving her to try and her mother's drug empire while La Diabla plots both her escape and her revenge]]

Surprisingly enough, even though they were sure the baby would be a boy, Hilda gives birth to a baby girl who after much deliberation and pain they decide to name Catalina, in honor of her recently deceased big sister. The fear that she could suffer the same tragic fate as her siblings, prompts her parents to do everything in their power to keep her safe, including painting a yellow line on the entrance of their house that they're adamant she can't cross on her own or tragedy will befell her.
