* WesternAnimation/ThomasAndFriends has had three notable examples of this trope:
** When Michael Angelis started narrating the original UK version of WesternAnimation/ThomasAndFriends, he was this to original narrator Music/RingoStarr (of whom Michael's brother Paul voiced in WesternAnimation/YellowSubmarine). Angelis went on to narrate the show for close to a decade, with his 21-year stint outlasting Creator/GeorgeCarlin and Creator/AlecBaldwin's stints as the narrator for the US version. Angelis retired from the show after season 16, and was replaced by Mark Moraghan, who sounds almost exactly like Angelis. Moraghan also took over from then-US narrator Michael Brandon at the same time, and narrated both the UK and US versions of the show up until the Big World! Big Adventures! retool.
** Robin Smith -- who did voicework for many of the series' US DVD promos, video games and merchandise between the late-90s and 2009 -- sounded very similar to the show's third US narrator Creator/AlecBaldwin, who held those duties at the time Smith was hired.

** Actually, this happens quite a bit in Franchise/KingdomHearts, probably due to the nature of the whole thing - Tate Donovan apparently turned down the role of Hercules for the first game, so Disney hired Creator/SeanAstin. However, once it took off, Donovan reprised the role for II. Susanne Blakeslee fills in for the late Eleanor Audley as Maleficent and Lady Tremaine. Nowadays, they still have four major Darrins, the voice actresses for Kairi and Naminé, presumably because Creator/HaydenPanettiere was doing Series/Heroes and Brittany Snow was off doing... something Panettiere herself was, in turn, TheOtherDarrin to Alyson Stoner when she replaced her as the voice of Xion; Stoner had previously been TheOtherDarrin to Panettiere as Kairi and is now the current voice actor for Kairi and Xion. Got it memorized?, Creator/CoreyBurton who filled in for Creator/ChristopherLee as [=DiZ=]/Ansem the Wise in a couple of the spinoff games before taking over the character fulltime after Lee's death, and the voice actor for Ansem, Seeker of Darkness (Creator/RichardEpcar replacing Creator/BillyZane). Also, all of the voices of the Hollow Bastion Restoration committee (plus Sephiroth) were replaced for II (resulting in Music/MandyMoore, Aerith, being replaced and resulting in a hugely amusing voicing situation for Yuffie). And the game RE: Chain of Memories offers Darrins for the entire Castle Oblivion party because all their voice clips in the original game were of Japanese actors simply with any sentences or spoken phrases removed. There are, however, quite a few surprising aversions for this trope, regardless; the original game had Kathryn Beaumont, the original voice actress of Alice and Wendy.

** Timon's voice casting in Kingdom Hearts II is kinda funny - he's played by Bruce Lanoil, but they already had another of Lane's substitutes in the cast: Creator/QuintonFlynn, who was already playing a supporting role. Note that both of them have played Final Fantasy characters... and even in the same game (X) to boot. Lanoil would reprise his role as Timon in Disney Think Fast and Wild About Safety, educational shorts played at various Disney Parks.

For instance, the remake of VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia; 'cause I've voice matched for Creator/TroyBaker on a number of things when he got too busy to do some of the projects that he had originally began, which made for a tenuous beginning of our friendship. I was like "I don't know what to do!" But, we're fine now. But, for that bit, I was approached to possibly do that, I was very busy, and also, I didn't want to continue a trend of being known as the "budget Baker", if that makes sense. Like, I covered for him on a number of projects, and I found myself in a place where I know somebody else who could probably use this more than I could and step up to the plate, and yeah, I didn't want to continue this trend of being "the guy that covers for Troy when he can't do it". * Anime/Pokemon is notorious for pulling this on the entire main cast of the dub from the Anime/PokemonTheMastermindOfMiragePokemon special onwards when the Pokémon Company took over from 4Kids and replaced most of the longstanding cast with soundalike VA's to cut costs. While the replacements did improve over time (generally agreed to be around the second season of Diamond & Pearl), some older fans are still understandably bitter about this and the shabby way the original cast was treated.

Got that?, Creator/CoreyBurton who filled in for Creator/ChristopherLee as [=DiZ=]/Ansem the Wise in a couple of the spinoff games before taking over the character fulltime after Lee's death, and the voice actor for Ansem, Seeker of Darkness(Creator/RichardEpcar replacing Creator/BillyZane).
