* WesternAnimation/BatmanBeyond: "Big Time": Terry [=McGinnis=] believes he and Charlie "Big Time" Bigelow are cut from the same cloth, a couple of dumb kids who got into trouble, and the only difference is that Terry got off for being underage. But what he doesn't seem to realize is, their choices are what ultimately set them apart. Charlie was given a second chance to turn his life around to make up for being in jail, but he squanders it and misuses it to help his criminal bosses. Terry, on the other hand, went above and beyond to change his life when he chose to become Batman. And he's made the most of it in order to provide for his mother and brother.

Even how Isley was first depicted in "Pretty Poison" as a wealthy person with a dual identity mirrored Batman. The key difference is that Ivy is willing to kill and Batman firmly abides by his ThouShallNotKill rule.

* Fanfic/DannyPhantomStranded: Jean-Luc Bevier has been compared to Vlad Masters by Maddie and Jazz, who referred to him as the French Vlad. Jean-Luc and Vlad are both upper-class men who hit on married women and put on a charming act to hide their true unpleasant natures. However, there are some apparent differences between them: Jean-Luc makes his money legally through inheritance and a family business he runs, while Vlad used his powers to become the wealthiest man on the planet through criminal means in addition to his inheritance; Jean-Luc has been married multiple times and has two children, while Vlad is single and obsessed with having a family with one specific woman; Jean-Luc is content with using his wealth to live the good life, spending it on women and hanging out at the country club, while Vlad has spent decades of his life fixated on Maddie, and is only interested in using his wealth to get with her and make her son either his son or miserable; Jean-Luc can handle being rejected by a woman and has standards about saying no, as he seems to have taken Maddie's "hint" that she doesn't care for his flirtations, while Vlad can't get it through his head that Maddie hates him and is willing to do anything to make her his, including brainwashing. Ultimately, Jean-Luc, despite being unpleasant and apathetic, is an ordinary man who does not harm the people around him, while Vlad is a supervillain who's willing to destroy anyone who gets in the way of what he wants.

Jean-Luc Bevier to his own daughter, Colette. Everyone points out that they're alike in being DirtyCoward elitist snobs that take pride in coming from OldMoney and have no problem with stealing someone else's lover but when you look beneath the surface, they're actually quite different. Jean-Luc is a hardworking wine salesman while Colette plans to live off her family's wealth without working a day in her life. Jean-Luc believes that the elites should maintain a certain level of dignity to keep up appearances and not act unruly like commoners while Colette is TheUnfettered who doesn't care what she has to do to get what she wants. Jean-Luc is mostly apathetic towards Team Phantom and is fine with ignoring them, whereas Colette is a sadist who goes out of her way to torment them for kicks. Jean-Luc flirts with any pretty face he sees while Colette only has eyes for Danny Fenton. Jean-Luc is capable of accepting rejection while Colette becomes insanely possessive of Danny for being the first boy to ever turn her down and is obsessed with stealing him from Star by any means necessary. While FAR from a good husband since he's an unapologetic womanizer, Jean-Luc is never abusive to his romantic partners nor does he use force or manipulation to make someone date him, as he's fine with his wives leaving him. Colette is incredibly controlling and possessive towards Danny as she treats him more like property than a person and is fine with threatening him into being with her.

* Franchise/KingdomHearts: Riku and Ansem, [[spoiler: or rather, Riku and Xehanort. Both were young men who came to carry the potential of a Keyblade wielder. Both were TheRival and a brotherly figure to a major character associated with light (Riku with Sora and Xehanort with Eraqus). They then both delved into the darkness and its power (Riku for the sake of adventure and Xehanort for the sake of being Eraqus' equal and partner), causing no shortage of calamity, as well as losing the right to wield the Keyblade. Where they differ is how they reacted to their actions. Xehanort, due to his curiosity and an overinflated sense of self-importance, came to covet the power and potential of darkness, at the cost of all that was important to him. He ended up on a downward spiral until he became the series' BigBad, trying to ignite a second Keyblade War and an apocalypse for the sake of, as Eraqus put it, "sheer curiosity". Riku, by contrast, was absolutely horrified by the crimes he had committed as a result of being corrupted by darkness. No matter how harsh things became, Riku ultimately never forgot what mattered to him, that being his loyalty to his friends or his promise to Terra, the promise that allowed him to wield the Keyblade in the first place. For most of the series, Riku lived as TheAtoner, trying to use the darkness for heroic actions and protecting his loved ones. He still wanted to show that he was worthy of the Keyblade, that he could help defend the light like his friends. Riku ultimately masters the darkness within him, earning his life with his friends back, becoming a Keyblade Master and even becoming immune to Xehanort's corruption. Xehanort, meanwhile, ultimately dies and loses everything in his pursuit of power.]]

** Yang and Adam Taurus. They have both been Blake's mission partners, been permanently scarred by others, and share a Semblance that allows them to power up by converting attack energy. However, Yang is a thrill-seeker who learned to become a Huntress who protects the people, who has to tank physical damage to convert energy into strength, and who learned to rise above her scars. Adam absorbs energy through his sword and is a manipulative abuser who descended from being a Faunus rights activist into a monster obsessed with punishing humanity as a whole because some humans hurt him.
