* It's clear that Vic is still looking out for Garfield in spite of his constant antagonism towards him over supposedly abandoning him in the alleyway. During the train ride, he's aware that Jinx wouldn't leave him well enough alone even if they do get the milk and is trying to figure out how to get his son to safety.
* As Garfield resumes his normal life after the heist, he notices the tree right across the street from their house that Vic's former crew told him about. Climbing up, he finds a whole bunch of five-tally marks etched on the bark that were from Vic as he watched his son grow up with his adopted family over the last few years. He realizes that the cat crew was right, and that [[BreakHisHeartToSaveHim Vic let him get captured so Jon could find him at the pound with his tag and bail him and Odie out]]. With that, a fired-up Garfield is determined to save his father and continues on.
* At the climax of the film, when Jinx orders Nolan and Roland to drop Garfield and Vic off the train to their deaths, Garfield apologizes to his father for being unable to save him, to which Vic merely responds by holding his hand and tells him all that matters is that he gave him a second chance.
