* The Hunter and the Archer are both more efficient and powerful than their peers because they each have a bit of their opposite in them - the Hunter has some Mystic self-discipline instead of being a slave to his passions like other Skeksis, and the Archer has some Skeksis will and drive instead of being completely passive like other Mystics. This reinforces the franchise's theme of balance between extremes; skekMal and urVa are more powerful because they are less pure and single-natured.

As he intentionally makes himself seem dumb to others to better manipulate them, he speaks in broken sentences to further drive the point home. Though there are a couple of times when he's being especially malicious that he starts speaking in full sentences.

* It may seem odd that the Skeksis would constantly belittle [=skekTek=] despite him being responsible for extending their lives for so long--but considering the [[ChronicBackstabbingDisorder nature]] of the Skeksis, it's likely that they fear that if the Scientist were to realize his importance, then he would use it as leverage against them. Their constant mockery is meant to undermine his self-esteem and keep him subservient.

* To the audience watching the show, the Skeksis do seem ObviouslyEvil: They are a humanoid chimera of vultures, lizards, and rats, indulge in JabbaTableManners, and are overall not too pleasant to work with. So why do the Gelflings and Aughra trust them so much? Because on Thra, everything is ugly to a degree and looks can be deceiving. Much of the wildlife is not what the general audience member would deem "cute", Aughra looks scary herself and even the Gelfling, despite being the equivalent of Elves, are not as pretty as Elves are usually portrayed. More so, other races, such as Podlings, are dirty, rambunctious, and at the best of times are viewed as nuisances by Gelflings. Meaning, the Skeksis overall behaviors and looks are no more different than other Thra races. Just because the Skeksis look evil to us doesn't mean they look evil to Thra natives.
** Or maybe they're just aware that, you know, [[Disney/TheHunchbackOfNotreDame how pleasing one is to look at normally has zero correlation with one's inner character]].

* When The Collector declares "This face was beautiful once, but then came knowledge", it initially seems to be BlatantLies. But when one considers that the Skeksis used to be UrSkeks (or rather, they used to be half of them, existing as combined beings with the Mystics), it becomes possible that The Collector wasn't lying. It may also count as {{Foreshadowing}}. The "knowledge" in question may be a reference to the previous Grand Conjunction that split the UrSkeks into the Skeksis and The Mystics, and the fact that, by becoming two beings, the positive and negative aspects of the UrSkeks are now laid bare and out in the open.

The bird-strangling scene mentioned in the removed Fridge Brilliance occurred in Episode 4. At this time, only Mira had been successfully drained, and Gurjin threatened with draining. The Skeksis did not begin draining Gelfling in earnest until Episode 6, after the death of the All-Maudra. Skek Tek cannot have been hiding away essence. There was none available for him to hide.

* About midway into the series, its shown the Emperor is suffering some type of BodyHorror, mainly his fingers literally falling off and oozing. He goes to the Scientist, asking him how much essence he would need. When the Scientist is hesitant to give an answer, the Emperor starts choking the Scientist's pet bird, forcing the Scientist to answer. In the last episode, its shown the Scientist had stored extra essence for himself in the bird's cage. It was not sympathy for the bird that forced the Scientist to answer; he needed to keep the extra essence a secret and if the Emperor had killed the bird, his secret stash might have been revealed.

* One of the few seemingly empathetic things a Skeksis does is when the Scientist shows concern for the caged creature that the Emperor threatens to throttle. Later, however, it's revealed that the Scientist was only concerned about the Emperor finding the bottle of essence hidden in the creature's cage. We know from the film that the Scientist is cruel enough to his caged specimens that they will eventually rebel and kill him.
