* Recommened by: Pspcole
* Fandoms: Naruto and Rosario+Vampie

* Synopsis: Waking up in a strange place can be tough, especially if you can't entirely remember who you are or how you got there. Naruto struggles to retrieve his memories as events pull him into a school of monsters. How will he be able to cope in such a violent place, and will he discover that he can be an equally scary guy in the really scary school.
* Comments: Well detailed, a good amount of worldbuilding, A strong version but not a mary sue version of Tsukune, Romance if any is slow placed and no harems make this a extremely good fanfic.

** @/{{Comartemis}}: Seconded. ''HARD''. Black Dragon has one of the best senses of humor I've ever encountered and it comes across wonderfully here, whether Ranma's curb-stomping the students, trying to survive having [[Anime/SailorMoon Jadeite]] and [[LookingForGroup Richard]] for teachers, [[DemonicSpiders dealing with the spiders in his and Tsukune's dorm room]], or engaging in all-out cross-campus prank warfare with Yukari, every chapter is loaded to the gills with Crowning Moments of Funny. Definitely a good way to brighten up your day, and best of all chapter 3's author notes indicate that Dragon's been reading the manga, so he's clearly not basing this on the decay-ridden anime adaptation.

** This is one of the few Rosario + Vampire fics that I truly enjoy. The characterization is one of the major selling points of this fanfic, and the dialogue is so expertly expressed and detailed that I actually felt tears swelling up in my eyes on one of the many [[TearJerker Tear Jerkers]] of the fic. Truly a good read.

''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6890565/1/Thawing_Permafrost Thawing Permafrost]]'' by [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/2827998/WanderingWordsmith WanderingWordsmith]]
* ''Recommended by'': TechnicolourGrey
* ''Status'': Ongoing
* ''Pairing'': OC/Mizore
* ''Synopsis'': Follows only Season I canon. Mizore is a teacher and there is a new human transfer, who doesn't take to Yokai as well as Tsukune. The human transfer, Dan, must overcome numerous obstacles to fit into Yokai Academy; be it life-threatening, humorous or against the red flag of his own conscience. The tale of a high school boy just trying to fit in when he's, well, different.
* ''Comments'': I am not one who is partial to sit and read twelve chapters of fanfiction in one sitting, but I did so here. I found the story gripping and the (so far) subtle, growing relationship between Mizore and Dan very believable and interesting. The rest of the story is also believable, with frequent references to choric characters and the struggles of Dan as he tries to fit in into a high school in which everyone wants to eat him. The writing style is effective, and the author has an effortless way with the description of characters, places and dialogue which is not only believable but relatable. On first reading I expected the protagonist, being an OC, to be rather annoying, but he is easy-going, humorous and I am glad that I am currently following him in his struggle through his joining Yokai Academy. So far there have been plot twists, cliffhangers, hidden details which I am dying to know, and I am sure that this story will still have my rapt attention for chapters to come.
** It should be noted that this is actually a re-write of the original version that was written by WanderingWordsmith back when he was known on fanfic as Chaosbahamut123. This is much of the reason why it's such an amazing story: The author has already been here and is ready to fix his previous mistakes. The best part about it is the fact that the romance, while still the central part of the plot, does not drown out the rest of the story. Dan's friends are critical components of his everyday life at Yokai, and the trouble he gets into is a very real part of his world and not just a device to provoke more angsty romance. All who love Mizore should read this fiction!
** Having read the original Thawing Permafrost, I need to emphasise how this new version is more mature, more sensitive and more subtle than the previous version. There is imagery (such as the red flags) that runs through this new story, creating consistency and flow. The relationship is developing more slowly, but it feels more genuine and less cliché. The themes so far have been based on very human concepts - loneliness and acceptance. I look forward to more sensitive issues being explored and eventually overcome by the loveable characters!
** [[Fanfic/ThawingPermafrost Now has its own TVTropes page]], and it needs ''a lot'' of help with the tropes list.

* ''Synopsis:'' Author's Summary: As a punishment for running away from home, Akiha enrolls her elder brother in the Youkai Academy. Thus the kind hearted monster is admitted into the academy of monsters. More of a Nasu X Rosario than Tsukihime X Rosario.
* ''Comments:'' Not what it sounds like. Rather than being your stereotypical "[[XMeetsY X replaces Tsukune]]" where the original Rosario+Vampire story is [[RecycledInSPACE rehashed with a new leading character]], this is more of a proper {{crossover}} of {{Nasuverse}} and RosarioToVampire with a completely new plot. It has been confirmed that Tsukune, Shiki, and Shirou will all be main characters in the story. The author is new, but seems to have a good grasp of writing already, and has good spelling and grammar (even though he doesn't seem to be from a native English speaking country). Haven spoken to the author extensively, I can safely say that the future for this story is looking very... {{Nasuverse}}. It's worth a read.

When the Exorcist declares him unfit to return to the academy because of his mentality, he is sent to the city to clear his mind and relax with his cousin, maybe even make friends. He never knew that leaving would get him in a dangerous game. Moka won't be amused. Aono centric
* Comments: A great fic done by a very skilled author. The chapters are long and well written, and the characters are extremely true to their canon selves. Tsukune and Minato are portrated as cousins in this piece, and their familial relationship is well portrayed with teasing, and a seemingly brotherly bond existing between them.

*** (penciljesus) Seconded, no doubt. I love pyracanth's characterizations of people- when they're meant to be faking all they say, [[spoiler: like Kurumu is for the majority of chapter 11]], they fake it, and the reader can tell, although the other characters can't, most likely because [[spoiler: they don't actually care]]. The author is ''really'' good at constructing a deep and complex storyline, one that drives on the POV characters' lack of understanding of the world and those around them, which creates this mood of you saying, "you people are complete ''dumbasses,''" because the reader seems to know all too much. The plot is quite character-driven, with the majority of the events occurring because of one person's naiveté: saying something wrong, saying something without thinking, or saying something and ''implying'' a whole different meaning, which other characters catch onto and react to. The dialogue, while sometimes seemingly OOC [[spoiler: (well, they did just live through the end of the world and several heartbreaks, so of course that's going to cause a bit of awkwardness that outwardly appears to be OOC-ness]], is simple, yet profound; people accidentally bring up fears and hatreds unknowingly, or even purposely to help ''some'' people to ''get the damn clue'' [[spoiler: (I'm talking to you, Tsukune)]] without having to use all-too complicated sentences or branching out into endless monologues. Speaking of monologues, they, when they ''are'' necessary, are these epic, prosaic speeches that may take up half the chapter, but are worth the time to read. [[spoiler: Issa Shuzen]] and [[spoiler: Headmaster Mikogami]] pull off these ''amazing'' speeches about their lives, and why they are important as characters, instead of being just plot devices for the main canon protagonists to enjoy. Another thing that's truly enjoyable is the way each POV characters' are portrayed; some characters have these overly-extravagant ways of speaking, others think simply, and are realists when it comes to their interactions and thoughts, though it might be that [[spoiler: their faces and words are just masks for how they really feel]]. Also, it's main OC is quite the funny asshole (and by asshole, that really means an ''asshole''), who manages to be cynical yet darkly humorous while he comments about the world. Overall, while this is a new fic, it has a diverse (if recycled, though of course that usually happens in fanfic) cast, a great way of expressing itself, and a very devious mind at its helm. This is one of the best new fanfiction of the year, with a definite recommendation to read it now and get into the building fanbase, and to get excited about it while it slowly updates (because this author is a ridiculously slow writer).

The dialogue, while sometimes seemingly OOC [[spoiler: (well, they did just live through the end of the world and several heartbreaks, so of course that's going to cause a bit of awkwardness that outwardly appears to be OOC-ness]], is simple, yet profound; people accidentally bring up fears and hatreds unknowingly, or even purposely to help ''some'' people to ''get the damn clue'' [[spoiler: I'm (I'm talking to you, Tsukune]] Tsukune)]] without having to use all-too complicated sentences or branching out into endless monologues. Speaking of monologues, when they ''are'' necessary, are these epic, prosaic speeches that may take up half the chapter, but are worth the time to read.

** This takes place post-series, so beware spoilers in the summary and in the fic itself.

***(penciljesus) Seconded, no doubt. I love pyracanth's characterizations of people- when they're meant to be faking all they say, [[spoiler: like Kurumu is for the majority of chapter 11]], they fake it, and the reader can tell, although the other characters can't, most likely because [[spoiler: they don't actually care]]. ** Sentairider42: RosarioToKiva was definitely one of the best fanfics that I have read, but my only complaint is that being in a "written" format just doesn't do it justice. I honestly think that it would have worked better as either an anime or a manga series.

* Comments: It's a fairly new fic, only a few months old, and very early in development, but it has, time and time again, proved its worth. It's a very interesting, and even powerful story early on, and its already large cast of POV characters seems to grow every chapter. The OC, a college kid named Wilhelm Schugen, is our angry, almost-homophobic, almost-racist, liberal-hating, drug-addicted, and orphaned protagonist who seems to be able to escape the label of "Mary Sue" in nearly every way, and whose backstory is very, very slowly developed and expanded upon. What really makes this fic is that it still focuses heavily on the canon characters, even Fuhai, who only gets so much importance in Rosario + Vampire beyond the usual mentor-type guy who "dies" at the end. The story takes place somewhere after the ending of Rosario + Vampire, though one of the first chapters takes place at an indeterminate time before that. It ties any loose ends in its own storyline fairly quickly (as it seems to be a pure Continuation Fic). The story's complexity keeps it interesting, action appears to be on the horizon, and it's writing is top-notch (though a tad short chapter-length-wise, though that's used for a certain effect). It's slow to update, but when it does it's worth the wait. Highly recommended.
