* DefeatByTransformation: In "What if Jake was stuck in morph?", the war ends far earlier when Jake and Arbron spread the message that any Yeerks that surrender their hosts will be allowed to gain morphing powers - on the condition that they become ''[[ShapeshifterModeLock nothlit]]''s. Enticed by the prospect of finally being freed from their helpless bodies, numerous Yeerks accept and are peacefully assimilated. Visser Three attempts to stomp out desertion by promising execution for any Yeerks thinking of accepting the offer... [[NiceJobFixingItVillain only to end up spreading the message to any Yeerks who weren't already aware of it]]. Within six months, the entire Yeerk empire is [[MookDepletion simply too depleted to continue operating]] and forced to surrender.

* EvilMeScaresMe: In "What if Marco was the one split in half in #32?", Marco is split into two people embodying his silly and ruthless sides and the silly copy asks to stay over at Jake's house overnight for a variety of reasons that include "the other me scares me." [[spoiler:The Marco staying at Jake's house is actually the ruthless copy pretending to be the silly one as part of a ploy to throw the team off his trail.]]

* AllTherapistsAreMuggles: In [[https://archiveofourown.org/works/11014245/chapters/60399787 Part 2]] of "What if all the yeerks suddenly died?", Rachel becomes increasingly violent after losing her outlet of guerrilla warfare against alien invaders, and eventually takes Chapman up on his offer of a therapist (who was also a former Controller, so she'd at least know Rachel wasn't crazy).

* ExplainExplainOhCrap: In "What if Marco was the one split in half in #32?", Marco gets split into two people embodying his silly (Shallow Marco) and ruthless (Robot Marco) sides. When Shallow Marco spends the night at Jake's house, Rachel calls Jake the next morning to complain about all the inane phone calls she got from Shallow Marco that night. Jake starts saying this doesn't make sense because Shallow Marco's been with him the whole time, only to realize midsentence [[spoiler:that his "Shallow Marco" was actually Robot Marco pretending to be his nicer half; when Jake rushes upstairs to check on him, he finds that Robot Marco's been gone for hours and left a SleepingDummy behind.]]

* NiceJobFixingItVillain: In "What if Jake was stuck in morph?", most Yeerks only realise they have the option of becoming nothlits when Visser Three announces that any Yeerk caught doing so would be executed.

* NiceJobFixingItVillain: In "What if Jake was stuck in morph?", most Yeerks only realise they have the option of becoming nothlits when Visser Three announces that any Yeerk caught doing so would be executed. Furthermore, Visser Three's increasingly cruel behavior towards his remaining subordinates in response to the subsequent increase in desertions culminates in one of his bodyguards assassinating him and the new leader of the invasion negotiating a surrender within a year.

Added DiffLines:

* RiddleForTheAges: After months of Visser Three's sanity deteriorating due to mass desertions in "What if Jake was stuck in morph?", one of his bodyguards shoots him dead as the others stand by and watch. The Animorphs and the reader never find out if the culprit was affiliated with the Yeerk Peace Movement or was just a minion who finally had enough.

Added DiffLines:

* ThoughtTheyKnewAlready: "What if Jake was stuck in morph?" sees the Animorphs negotiate a deal with the Taxxons and sympathetic Yeerks to let them use the morphing cube to trap themselves in morph and leave the war. While this produces a decent number of deserting hosts and Yeerks, it isn't until Visser Three announces that anyone caught leaving to become a nothlit will be executed that the majority of the invasion force learns about the deal's existence. After this, so many people start deserting that the invasion implodes within half a year.
-->''Visser Three issues an announcement that any yeerk found deserting the empire to become a nothlit will be executed.  Which is very considerate of him, because that's how the 90% of yeerks who didn't already know end up finding out that that's an option.''

* InUniverseFactoidFailure: In "What if they were in a haunted house?", Jake tries to explain Christianity to Ax, but being Jewish, he gets some of the details wrong. For example, he says that Jesus was born under a pine tree instead of in a manger.

* HauntedHouse: The Animorphs get stuck in one in "What if they were in a haunted house?", as the ghost haunting the place seals all the entrances and counters their attempts to force their way out. They treat it with more annoyance than anything else.

* RoleSwapAU: Several, including "What if Tom ended up leading the Animorphs?" (while Jake is a Controller), "What if Jake was stuck in morph?" (instead of Tobias), "What if Marco was the one split in half in #32?" (instead of Rachel), "What if James, not David, became the seventh Animorph?" (ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin), "What if Elfangor and Loren raised Tobias?" (in which Mertil and Gafinilan give the Animorphs their powers and then die instead of Elfangor), "What if Tobias and Rachel lived in NYC post-war?" (in which Jake killed Tom and then died instead of Rachel), and "What if Peter and Naomi got married?" (instead of Peter and Nora).

* RetroactiveStepsiblingRelationship: In "What if Peter and Naomi got married?". Jordan already has a crush on Marco, so when Marco learns they're going to become stepsiblings, he acts as unappealing as possible to turn her off him.

* ForWantOfANail: Several chapters radically diverge from canon due to one small change.
** "What if they were caught during their first mission?" happens because Jake-as-Homer went ''slightly'' closer to the Sharing members' meeting on the beach. As a result, the Animorphs become the Yeerk Empire's most valuable hosts, but surprisingly [[EarnYourHappyEnding the world isn't doomed.]]
** "What if they saved Jake's family?" happens because [[FixFic Tobias points out]] that it won't take the Yeerks long to find a genetic match between Jake and Tom. Since Jake gets his family to the Hork-Bajir valley as soon as possible, he doesn't cross the DespairEventHorizon and Tom's second Yeerk dies before he can become a serious threat.

* TheAtoner: In "What if they were 83 years old?", Ax was the Andalite who gave the Yeerks advanced technology instead of Seerow, and has spent the rest of his life trying to fight them despite being shunned by his people.

Added DiffLines:

* BreatherEpisode: "What if they were three years old?" is a short chapter of Elfangor silently cursing the Ellimist for dropping him in front of five toddlers with the apparent expectation of making them into a Yeerk-fighting team.

Added DiffLines:

* CruelAndUnusualDeath: In "What if Rachel's mom was a controller?" David is caught demorphing from flea by Sara, who promptly stomps him to death. Quite apart from being a horribly UndignifiedDeath, it's made clear from Sara and Jordan's horror-stricken reactions that it was absolutely horrific to witness in action, especially given that David was ''just'' human enough to suffer broken bones and teeth, ''and'' spent his last few seconds screaming in agony. Upon witnessing the results, [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness Rachel actually pukes at the sight]].

Added DiffLines:

* ARottenTimeToRevert: During "What if Rachel's mom was a controller?" the predictably treacherous David decides to infiltrate Rachel's house while in flea morph, and though it's not clear if he was there to spy on her or kill her ([[WouldHurtAChild or her sisters]]), he eventually has to demorph... only to get caught in the act and [[AccidentalHero stomped to death by a terrified Sara]] before he can finish.

Added DiffLines:

* UndignifiedDeath: After spending an entire week terrorizing the Animorphs as he did in canon, David meets his end when he uses flea morph to sneak into Rachel's house and ends up getting messily stomped to death by Sara - a five-year-old child.
