* According to the interview tapes for Two-Face in ''VideoGame/BatmanArkhamCity'', Carmine Falcone replaces Sal Maroni as the one responsible for Harvey Dent's disfigurement and transformation into Two-Face.
** In fact, quite a lot of the characters in the Arkham series borrow aspects from different Batman continuities. The baseline for most of the characters come from the comics and [[WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries '90s animated series]], but then you have touches and references to other versions mixed in.

* In ''VideoGame/IronMan3TheOfficialGame'', Aldrich Killian becomes ComicBook/{{MODOK}} after [[BrainUploading uploading his mind]] into an android body.
* One of the {{Alternate Universe}}s in ''VideoGame/InfiniteCrisis'' is a loose adaptation the {{Elseworlds}} ''ComicBook/BatmanVampire'' trilogy, but sees ComicBook/RasAlGhul replace Literature/{{Dracula}} as the villain who turned Batman into a vampire and Damian Wayne replace Dick Grayson as the Robin who becomes a vampire.

* ''VideoGame/MidnightSuns'':
** In the comics, Caretaker was was two people, a [[Really700YearsOld very long lived]] old man and [[AffirmativeActionLegacy his granddaughter and successor Sister Sara]]. The game's version has the gender and name of Sara, but the long-lived background and physical age of her grandfather.
** [[spoiler:Mephisto replaces Belasco as the demon who kidnapped a young Illyana Rasputin and who formerly ruled Limbo until she drove him out.]]

* ''VideoGame/SpiderManPS4'' does this to Mr. Negative simply by having Martin Li being the character's real name, as opposed to the comics where a Triad member pulled a DeadPersonImpersonation on a dead guy the organization intended to sell into slavery.
* ''[[Videogame/MarvelsSpiderMan2 Spider-Man 2]]'' has several examples:
** [[spoiler: ComicBook/{{Venom}} is Harry Osborn rather than Eddie Brock. Early on after bonding with the symbiote, Harry's costume also resembles the more armored, militaristic iteration of the suit worn by Flash Thompson as Agent Venom.]]
** [[spoiler:ComicBook/MaryJaneWatson becomes the game universe's version of Scream after being forcibly bonded to a symbiote by Harry.]]
* ''VideoGame/SpiderManShatteredDimensions'':
** While the ComicBook/{{Deadpool}} in the ''ComicBook/UltimateMarvel'' universe still retains his costume from the canon version of that universe, his personality is more akin to the classic Deadpool.
** While retaining much of the history of the classic ''ComicBook/Marvel2099'' universe, Kron Stone is Scorpion, like in the ''Timestorm 2009-2099'' miniseries rather than ComicBook/{{Venom}}.

* In the first ''VideoGame/XMenLegends'', Allison Crestmere (Magma of the ComicBook/NewMutants) is given the powers of her comic counterpart, but a personality and background similar to Comicbook/KittyPryde. The developers admitted that they wanted to use Kitty Pryde, but her powers don't translate well to an action RPG.
** This also applies to most of the characters that appear in the game, as they appear with their mainstream "Earth 616" personalities and backstories, but start by default with their Ultimate appearances. The sequel also adds ''ComicBook/AgeOfApocalypse'' into the mix.
** It's ''really'' hard to combine AOA and 616 ComicBook/{{Sabretooth}}. Blink sees him as a JerkWithAHeartOfGold because "Mr. Creed" rescued her once (purely out of the goodness of his heart, which would be in-character for AOA). Your character is more familiar with a 616 Sabretooth, saying "If he's got a good heart, it's because he ripped it out of someone's chest!" It really is as if you've met two different Victor Creeds. All the other cast members, though, are the straight-up 616 versions wearing the ComicBook/UltimateMarvel costumes.
** Dark Beast is another example. In the comics, Dark Beast is Beast's EvilCounterpart from the ''Age of Apocalypse'' universe who ended up on the mainstream Marvel Universe. In the game, Dark Beast is the original ComicBook/{{Beast|Marvel Comics}} after he's {{Brainwashed}}.
* ''VideoGame/XMenOriginsWolverine'':
** In a non-character example, the game depicts adamantium as coming from a meteorite that crashed somewhere in Africa and was subsequently guarded by the tribesmen who found it, some of whom now possess powerful weapons and supernatural abilities. None of these things are associated with adamantium in the comics (which was created in a lab and doesn't exist in nature), but are very reminiscent of vibranium, the fictional metal from the ''ComicBook/BlackPanther'' series.
** Bolivar Trask had his right hand cut off by Logan long ago and now seeks to kill him in the present, a backstory taken from Professor Thorton in the comics.

* The UsefulNotes/SegaMasterSystem version of ''VideoGame/GoldenAxe'' ditched the three main characters from the arcade version and introduced a new one named Tarik, who is a renamed Ax Battler with the abilities to use the magic powers from the original trio. Ironically enough, Tarik and Ax Battler were later combined into one character in ''Golden Axe: Beast Rider'' named "Tarik the Ax Battler."

** The unmasked version of Sub-Zero was among the list of characters that were cut out from the UsefulNotes/{{Nintendo 64}} version of ''[[VideoGame/MortalKombat3 Mortal Kombat Trilogy]]''. However, his two exclusive special moves, Ice Clone and Ice Shower, were instead given to the masked Sub-Zero.

** Haggar fits gameplay-wise. He was supposed to be a character in Street Fighter 2, but was replaced with Zangief. He appears again in ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom3'' as a standalone character, using moves he already had and a couple of nods to Zangief. His theme is also a composite of Cody and Guy's themes from ''VideoGame/StreetFighterIV''.

* The ''Blood Curse'' remake of ''VideoGame/{{Siren}}'' cuts down the cast considerably from the source game and gives the remaining cast members personality traits, tasks, and missions from various characters who didn't make the cut. For example, Bella, the little girl who is obviously derived from Harumi, has a mission and task of finding her parents from another girl who was older than her, enough to be in the "adult female" category of the game but wasn't fully an adult herself.

* ''VideoGame/ViewFromBelow'': The Crimson God [[spoiler:has the backstory of Jesus up until the crucifixion, where he refuses to forgive humanity. God casts him down from heaven for refusing to fulfill his duty, and the Crimson God is forced to wander as a spirit on Earth forever. He tempts humans into embracing their worst impulses and enacting a human sacrifice ritual to revive him, making him a SatanicArchetype. However, it's unknown if the Biblical Satan is actually a separate character or if he's another identity for the Crimson God]].

* The Emperor Zul in ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsDestiny'' is a combination of ''Anime/GodMars'''s Emperor Zul (has his appearance, personality and empire), [[Anime/MiraiRoboDaltanious Daltanias's]] Emperor Dolmen (because of the Kroppen cloning plot) and the King of Vega (he led the attack that destroyed Planet Fleed))

* When the ''VideoGame/{{Touhou}}'' game moved from the PC-98 to Windows things ''changed''. One of the striking examples is Marisa, who really only kept the basic theme and appearance of the PC-98 character of that name. Her new personality is much more similar to (the now absent) Mima's.

** ''Hidden Star In Four Seasons'' introduced Okina Matara, who is this trope twofold: First of all by way of her mythological inspiration, Matarajin, having been syncriticized with ''loads'' of deities, such as Hata no Kawakatsu, Shinra Myoujin, Okuninushi, a.k.a., Daikoku-sama, who is often -- due to their similar names -- intertwined with Daikoku-ten, the Japanese version of Mahakali and thus, by extension, Shiva. And secondly by combining elements of many of Touhou's other bosses, such as Yukari Yakumo (leitmotif, abilities and position as one of Gensoukyou's sages), Koishi Komeiji (color scheme), Junko (general design), Byakuren Hijiri (the symbols on Okina's door in the extra stage being the same as those on Byakuren's Sutra Scroll) and Toyosatomimi no Miko (Okina shares her Spell Card background).

*** In this timeline, rather than being the undead ninja Hanzo Hasashi, the title of Scorpion is held by Kuai Liang, making Scorpion the younger brother of Sub-Zero and a member of the Lin Kuei.

*** Tanya, coinciding with her AdaptationHeroism, now has elements that Jade had in the original timelines: a trusted ally of an Edenian royal who has been trained from birth to fight at their side, utilizes a polearm and is (somewhat ironically) put into conflict with a dissenter of their organization. The difference is that the royal is Mileena and Li Mei seems to have left for more selfless purposes than the original Tanya ever did.

** ''VideoGame/MortalKombat1'' takes place in a rebooted timeline that differs from the previous two in a few key ways. One of the biggest divergences is that rather than being the undead ninja Hanzo Hasashi, Scorpion is now Kuai Lang, the younger brother of Sub-Zero.
