The Thracians' belief that friendship is a curse is due to the fact they were not even invited to join the other three tribes during the founding of Equestria despite freezing just like them, forcing them to live on a barren island. However, from King Thrace's flashback, it appears that King Thrace (who was representing his tribe) ''didn't even bother to try joining in and were just sitting there in the sidelines freezing while watching the whole thing unfold'' while we never see any signs of rejection from the three tribes or that they were even ''aware'' of the Thracians' existence. It's like saying that you weren't invited to a party while not even checking to see if you really aren't invited.

* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome: Swift Foot is shocked to see the Young Six sitting together at the opening ceremonies, despite her prior manipulations of them. Despite their resentful feelings, the Young Six are close enough friends that they can put those emotions aside and rekindle their friendship (and because they want to make Twilight proud).
