* MassOhCrap: They all have this reaction at the end of Story 1 when Pogo hugs Akira [[spoiler: in an attempt to comfort him for accidently ravaging the minds of Neo-Domino]]...and exposes his Heart Mark to the Dark Signers since they had no idea of a sixth mark at the time.

* ThePoorlyChosenOne: Downplayed; the heroes ''are'' capable, just completely out of their league when it comes to fighting the Dark Signers. [[spoiler: One of them also happens to be emotionally unstable.]]
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: A caveman, a shifu who was previously a bandit, a cowboy, a ninja, a martial artist, a psychic, and a round robot who serves horrible coffee. [[spoiler: And upon escaping to Maiami City, a former evil lord.]]

* CombatPragmatist: Befitting his origins as a street punk who would go for low blows, Akira's deck is all about fighting dirty, whether by bouncing or banishing. Unfortunately this makes the Tops feel like he doesn't fight ''honorably'' towards their Champion, right after he worked on building good graces with them during his matches with Greiger and Akiza. [[spoiler: To the point they bully him from the safety of their seats.]]

Oersted's former friend whose bitterness sent the knight into despair...and his bitterness didn't stop here.

* PyrrhicVictory: He manipulated everything so he could one day gain the throne and the hand of the Princess...but at the cost of losing his life, the kingdom of Lucrece annihilated, his friend rebuilding himself as a hero, ''everyone'' hating his guts in the afterlife, and Alethea eventually leaves him.

* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Wanted to be with her beloved Streibough...and so Oersted stepped down so they can be together. And the two now ''hate each other'' due to the Lucrece disaster they both caused.

* BookDumb: Implied that Akira didn't get a formal education due to being raised in an orphanage, but he's sharp as a whip in regards to strategies and getting the jump on people with his mind-reading.

** Yusei: They both are spiky-haired pretty boys, ride red motorcycles, have a deceased father, and grew up in an OrphanageOfLove. Yusei allows himself to be guided by destiny to destroy the Signers, Akira tells destiny to bug off. Yusei was betrayed Jack and can never forgive him for drowning in the water, whereas Akira never got angry with Lawless over killing his father as Lawless made up for this blunder for the rest of his life
** Jack: Jack is fully absorbed with himself while Akira is shown to care for his little sister and the other orphans even if he doesn't openly admit it. Jack also is incapable of holding ''any'' sort of job as shown in the WRGP arc, while Akira works at a taiyaki stand and later drew his own manga. Jack didn't care that he put Rally in danger, whereas Akira is horrified that he killed Watanabe's father and has to keep it secret and refused his sister's request to be transformed into a liquified human
** Akiza: Both are psychics with similar names, but while Akiza was taken into a dedicated school to hone her skills, Akira is self-taught. Akiza's powers are through making her Duel Monsters real, while Akira focuses on mental attacks on the mind along with fire and ice. Akiza has living parents while Akira's dad is dead and his mom is never mentioned. Akiza angsts about no one understanding her and follows Divine's words while Akira forges his own path and doesn't ask for others to guide him, nor does he whine or complain about how much his life sucked. Both wear outfits that show off lots of skin Akiza wearing thigh high stockings, garter belt, and a blouse ''clearly'' explosing her fertile tracks of land while Akira sticks to NoShirtLongJacket. Akiza's signature color is red while Akira's is green.

* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: When he lets his anger get the best of him upon [[spoiler:the finale of Act 1, unwittingly wrecking Neo-Domino's psyches and letting it fall into the hands of the Dark Signers, he looks in horror at what he caused.]]

** Pogo: Pogo fought to keep Beru safe and ends up falling in love with her (and having a child). Jack cares only for himself and finds Mikage lusting over him to be ''disgusting''. Pogo's antics with Gori is more FriendlyRivalry and they have each others' backs, Jack grew up with Yusei but he was willing to betray his brother at a moments' notice. Pogo is TheHeart of the group and always gives out hugs when others are distressed, Jack is completely apathetic to others.
** Lei: Lei was previously a bandit but turned a leaf after the shifu took her in as a student. Jack stole Yusei's dreams (and later his life) for himself. Lei lost everyone she cared of thanks to Ou Di Wan Lee and moved forward by teaching the Earthen Heart techniques to children while Jack indirectly killed Yusei and moves forward in order to escape his past as a Satellite. Lei is mentioned to care for the orphans under Martha's tutelage while Jack is quick to drown a child for his dreams (and never thought of Martha during the time).

** Masaru: While both want to be at the top, Masaru refuses to cheat and fights his opponents fairly whereas Jack's opponents were rigged from the start by Goodwin. Masaru seeks strength as something to hone one's spirit, while Jack has nothing but his fleeting glory before it all comes crashing down. Masaru is known for his low IQ (25) but makes up for it with being observant whereas Jack grew up in Satellite (thus having lower chances of education) but also makes several bone-headed decisions that cost him personally.
** Akira: Both of them are cocky, hot shots who use a Fire themed monster as their ace (The LIGHT Ritual Beast Ulti-Apelio for Akira, and the DARK Red Archfiend Dragon for Jack) and grew up in an orphanage. But Akira was able to keep his morals thanks to Lawless, whereas Jack could care less about others if it meant getting what he wanted despite being raised by Martha Jack was chosen to do great things by Goodwin due to him having Red Archfiend Dragon, but it's ''Akira'' who steps up as the true hero even though he doesn't have a destiny like JAck did. Akira worries about the safety of everyone at Bright Sparks Orphanage, particularly his little sister and Taeko, whereas Jack hasn't show ''any'' concern for Martha ever since leaving for Neo-Domino. Akira treats Rally like a little brother whereas Jack was quick to throw the boy into a boat just to get his ticket out.
** Cube: A robot who learned to understand humanity and compassion to others, something Jack sorely lacks. Cube is also not afraid to defend themselves, like when he used his Maser Cannon on Kiryu, while Jack refuses to lift a finger to help Satellite and is helpless to fight against the Dark Signers.

* PoorCommunicationKills: At no point did it come to him to ''tell'' Yusei about Jaeger's deal and this led to him killing Yusei.
* ShadowArchetype: Jack is a dark mirror to the original heroes (and Oersted) as he constantly shows that he cares for himself, doesn't think about consequences, and causes more tragedies than miracles.

* GrassIsGreener: Hates Lei because she assumes the shifu has a better life and has it all together. [[spoiler:Kira]] reveals that no, Lei actually has it much worse than Akiza. Her parents were abusive, she lived all by herself outside of the village, and she saw ''everyone she loved died'' (Yun and Hong by Indomitable Fist goons and her shifu died, albeit peacefully, after the defeat of Ou Di Wan Lee.) She also assumes Akira's life is better than hers, not knowing that Akira's been raised in an orphanage for most of his childhood and learned that his big brother figure ''killed his dad''.

* BigBadWannabe: He made a deal with Odio to get revenge, but he's overall pathetic when put into a real fight, resulting in an early defeat when he first invades Neo-Domino. And the vengeful spirits of the Magi and Psychics who died in the Witch Hunts he indirectly incited are shielding others from his wrath even in death, meaning that he can't invade his Earth.

Oboro learned to put trust in others, Jack chose not to open up about this decision to Yusei and jetted. Oboro is mostly silent and wears black, Jack wants everyone to look at him and wears white.
** Sundown: Both are LonelyAtTheTop but Sundown was motivated by tragedy and Jack's by glory. Sundown decided to gain companionship after saving the citizens of Success Town, whereas Jack refuses to go back to Satellite to make amends with his friends.

** Oersted: Both of them are blond haired warriors whose actions that led to tragedies, but Oersted's was a complete misunderstanding caused by Streibough wanting to ruin him, whereas Yusei was nothing but loving and kind to his brother before Jack screwed everything up for glory. Oersted even compares Jack demanding Rally, Nervin, Tank, and Blitz free to how he unleashed the killing blow on Odio but while Oersted's was shown in a positive light as him breaking free of the hatred that imprisoned him, Jack's act is a complete slap in the face due to this coming after everything ''else'' he caused and how he's not sorr y about it. Oersted is technically the next king of Lucrece while Jack is seen as the Riding King.

* BigBadWannabe: He wants to prove himself as a dangerous force, but the New Signers can defeat him without fancy skills and he has no defense against Akira's psychic abilities.

** To Akira. Again, they're both psychics but Divine manipulates others to believe in his praise of an uprising, while Akira lives by his own rules. Both of them wear green, but Divine dresses in a classy waistcoat and Akira decides to dress in spikes, studs, and a jacket with no shirt. Both use Psychic-type archetypes, but Divine's is a ''full'' Psychic deck that relates to how he isolates potential students to his cult, while Akira has a combination of Psychic and other types, equating to how he works with others.
* KarmaHoudini: Downplayed; while he still has control of Akiza by the end, he's been hit by [[spoiler:Akira's Judgment Day]] and the Dark Signers are ready to torture him.

** She's a foil to Akira due to them both being psychics who feel like outsiders, but Akira was raised in a loving orphanage while Akiza was brainwashed and groomed by Divine and his cult. Akira's parents are dead whereas Akiza's parents are still alive but are distant with her. Moreover, Akiza's psychic powers manifested in rage of her father focusing on work over her, while Akira's powers manifested after the death of his father.

* GrassIsGreener: Hates Lei because she assumes the shifu has a better life and has it all together. [[spoiler:Kira]] reveals that no, Lei actually has it much worse than Akiza. * SanityHasAdvatnages: She's a dangerous psychic to be sure, but her desires to inflict pain on others and inability to accept her faults makes her completely outclassed by the level-headed Akira. Even in her brief encounter with Lei, she was capable of bouncing back Black Rose Dragon without breaking a sweat.

* CombatPragmatist: Befitting his origins as a street punk who would go for low blows, Akira's deck is all about fighting dirty, whether by bouncing or banishing. Unfortunately this makes the Tops feel like he doesn't fight ''honorably'' towards their Champion, right after he worked on building good graces with them during his matches with Greiger and Akiza.

This turns out to be a blessing in disguise for the heroes, for he has the Heart Mark and both Goodwin brothers only assume there's only five marks...until Pogo accidentally reveals himself.

* AngerBornFromWorry: Upon seeing Yun and Hong again, she gets furious before hugging them with tears in her eyes, guilty for not being able to save them.

* RefugeInAudacity: How does he make Jack Atlas flinch? By disguising himself as Yusei and suggests they get their [[DoubleEntendre satisfaction]] going on. The absurdity makes his friends nearly break cover from how sudden it is.

* BigBrotherInstinct: Just like in life, he's always making sure to come to Akira's aid.

* GoodCounterpart: Just like in the game, he is this to Streibough. While Streibough once again is the cause of events that has the Seven Heroes involved, Lawless does his best to steer things along. Streibough is possessed by Odio but lost his humanity, Lawless is blessed by the Crimson Dragon and gets to stay in the land of the living.

* MassOhCrap: They all have this reaction at the end of Arc 1 when Pogo hugs Akira...and exposes his Heart Mark to the Dark Signers since they had no idea of a sixth mark at the time.

* TookALevelInBadass: Went to training with Shifu and by the time she appears near the end of Act 1, she's already equipped with a crossbow and ready to raise hell.

* CurbStompCushion: Loses to Akira (again) in the Fortune Cup but whittled his lifepoints to 400.

* LactoseOverLiquor: He orders for milk in Bootleg, most likely as a reference to him being given milk in the game.

* {{Foil}}: An obvious one to Akiza. Both women wear red and have a mentor figure, but Lei was taught to be more open and kind by her shifu, while Akiza became codependent on Divine. Lei had abusive parents and lived alone in the forest, Akiza's parents were flawed but loving and she chose to stay with Divine. Lei is a martial-artist who uses Harpies that fly, whereas Akiza is a Psychic and has a witch-like motif and her monsters are plants that grow in the soil. Lei learns that she can't get everything but strives to be better whereas Akiza doesn't understand how blessed she is and spirals into insanity.

* UnknownRival: Is this to Mikage due to Lei having to disguise herself as the secretary to kidnap Jack. Lei's too preoccupied with the Dark Signers to care for Mikage's pettiness until Mikage called her a hussy.

* ThouShallNotKill: Refuses to take a life.

* NotSoStoic: When Kiryu laughs a bullet to the chest, he panickily tells Akira to teleport them out of there.

* StoryBreakerPower: Sundown is the second most dangerous member of the group because he has a ''gun'' on hand. So the only times he's allowed to shoot are when he's dealing with Divine's Psychic monsters or when he tried to shoot Kiryu, only to end up doing nothing.

* GoodIsNotNice: He is not amused with Jaeger's IHaveAFamily line since he doesn't care for other families in Satellite who suffered.
