An extremely reclusive writer who lives alone on the outskirts of Lower Crowchurch. By her own admission she has a nervous disorder and medicates heavily with cigarettes and alcohol. She puts on a good face though and turns out to be one of the more resourceful members of the group. She is responsible for the fame of her ex-husband Lewis Cornfelt (who we meet in the comic's second volume ''Enemy Within'') as she edited and re-wrote all of his books. This causes her no small amount of resentment.

+ StraightGay: Implied; his watched was dedicated to his "darling Charles", and Susan speculates this is the reason he remained so private about his life. Needless to say, he isn't flamboyant in the slightest.

Fawkes is Lower Crowchurch's imfamous town drunk and comes from a long line of infamous town drunks. A poacher by 'occupation' Fawkes is one of the first people to witness the alien menace. His warnings to the town go unheeded due to his past drunken antics. When he joins Clive and the others he reveals himself to be quick-thinking and courageous in spite of his questionable personality. He acts as a bit of a [[TheLancer lancer]] to Clive.
