A young man/woman who starts to experience strange things during a Kishimai High entrance ceremony. Chosen to represent the second year class, they finish giving their speech before meeting the representative of the first year class...who, last year, was the representative for the third year class. After meeting Aria, they discover the truth behind Mobius and seek to escape, becoming the President of the Go-Home Club.

Alternately, at some point after becoming the president they meet Thorn, who tells them that everything isn't so clear cut and offers them a chance to see the lives of people who can only live in Mobius due to their severe traumas. If they accept, they are given powers by μ and become the newest member of the Ostinato Musicians: Lucid.

* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: The other members of the Going-Home Club simply refer to them as "President" because they are the group's leader and possess no canonical name. Likewise, the Ostinatu Musicians call them "Lucid."
* FaceHeelTurn: If they choose to accept Thorn's offer to join the Ostinato Musicians. Whether it sticks is entirely up to the player.

The backstory of the protagonist in the game is unstated, but like everyone else, they've suffered a horrible experience in reality and went to Mobius to escape the pain. * BecomingTheMask: In the anime, Ritsu appears to be very sociable and friendly towards the people he meets. ''Overdose'' adds a few other female characters, including Mirei and Wicked in the Forbidden Musician Route. The only subverted instance is with Ayana, who in spite of feeling comfortable around him [[DoesNotLikeMen despite hating men with a passion]], never shows any real interest in him.
* {{Determinator}}: Early on, Aria informs Ritsu that he isn't capable of developing a Catharsis Effect yet. In Episode 6, however, as he watches everyone fight the Ostinato Musicians and ponders as to how they could be so strong to want to face reality, he manages to awaken his own Catharis Effect ''without Aria's help'' and stops μ's FreakOut by himself.

* TheAce: Similar to their role in the Go-Home Club, Lucid quickly becomes this to the Ostinato Musicians as well. In a WIRE conversation, Sweet-P even believes that Lucid is Thorn's secret weapon. Other Musicians are also quick to praise Lucid's combat prowess. Even the Go-Home club recognizes that they're the strongest of their foes midway through the story.
* AllAmazonsWantHercules: As you progress through Mirei and Wicked's Character Episodes, it's more or less implied that they start to fancy the male protagonist. Alternatively an inverted AllGirlsWantBadBoys, as a female protagonist earns the affections of the male members.

* SkullForAHead: The protagonist's face is hidden behind a black skull. Artwork makes it ambiguous if the skull is composed of flames or not, whereas the in-game model has no features.
* TheVoiceless: Seems to be the case. In battle and in cutscenes, the protagonist has a distinct voice. Lucid, meanwhile, has no voice to speak of. Not during battle, or even in what few cutscenes he's in. This is most likely done to hide the fact that the protagonist and Lucid are one of the same.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Can be this to the Ostinato Musicians. While Lucid may be one of the bad guys, they are still the protagonist. Best shown when they interact with the other Musicians, especially the harsher and more dangerous musicians like Mirei, Wicked and Thorn. Afterwards, he burned down the home of a couple who attended his trial, which ruined his life. It's not hard to think of Kouki as the lesser of two evils.]]
