* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Actually pretty dang competent at his job. Uses the M.E.R.C. troops as cannon fodder while being completly open with A.I.M. as he knows they're actually competent, can play PR as well as anyone, and manages to secure a steady supply line of money from a liberated diamond mind. It's just bad luck and bad graphic design that kept him from getting farther than he did.

* WitchDoctor: Fitting for a DarkestAfrica setting. However he leans much more to the Doctor part of it, to the point he says that he must offer treatment to anyone that comes to him. So he's relieved when the Mercs killed the Legion harassing him.

* IronWoobie: As much as Merc can be anyway. He goes through so much shit in all of the game he appears in and in background but he's active.

* EveryoneHasStandards: In ''3'' he happily commits to hunting down the people on Maman Liliane's hitlist as they abused her girls. He also happily executes the literal slave driver in Diamond Red.

* SoProudOfYou: If paired with Igor in [=JA2=], he will greatly approve Igor's marksmanship when he scores kills, commenting that "Igor is ''Dolvich.''"

** Now in-game for Jagged Alliance 3, one of the first games to have a full body image for the mercs. If Fox's image is to be believed, the woman fights in a war zone dressed in a tank top.

* BloodKnight: Minor. She finds one of the families near her boring because their vacation and job stories don't involve any gunplay.

* ButtMonkey: He gets bullied by Steroid, tends to be socially awkward, and has a lot of medicial school loans to pay off.

* RetiredMonster: [[spoiler: Used to be a Death Squad member before the Sprits compelled him to become a Shaman.]]

* JackOfAllStats: Adequate but unexceptional in every stat.

* TookALevelInBadass: In ''2''. Wolf went into intensive training after "Deadly Games", and boosted his stats and rounded out his skillset.

* LovableRogue: When not on contract, he's a professional thief and break-in specialist who isn't afraid to LeaveNoWitnesses, but his cool attitude and excellent stats make him one of the most popular mercs both in-universe and with the fanbase.

* AxCrazy: In ''2''.

* NewAgeRetroHippie: Subverted. His bio states that he's a healer and lives on a commune in a long-term relationship with a woman he isn't married to. However, he is quite good with conventional medicine too, especially for someone without any formal medical training. On top of this, he is prodigiously strong and a pretty good shooter with a talent for killing quickly and quietly.

* AchievementsInIgnorance:Was drugged up to the gills and managed to pull off a miracle allowing for the Marquis to escape an ambush. How? He was withdrawning, but accidentally withdrew straight into enemy lines which caused so much confusion that everyone else was able to escape.

* FamedInStory: Some of the [[ChummyCommies Marquis]] consider him a living legend after he accidentally save them from overwhelming odds.

* NailedToTheWagon: Actually askes MD to use a cattle prod on him if he starts slipping back to addiction. MD as an actual medical professional is horrified.
* OffTheWagon: Can happen in ''2'' if left with any kind of drugs or alcohol in his inventory. He starts like this in ''3'', thanks to [[spoiler: MERC being decimated by the Legion and Larry being captured and tortured. He's enough of a mess when first encountered that he needs a dose of Metavirion to remember who he is and why he's there, and even then he's fully relapsed into a stereotypical [[TheStoner stoner.]]]]

* SlippingAMickey: Victim of this in ''3'' to the point that you need to [[{{Panacea}} give him Metavirion]] just to get him to partially detox.

* ManChild: Most likely due to brain damage, which is implied by Magic and Scully (both of whom refuse to work with him) to have left him unable to perform basic tasks without help. In ''Deadly Games'' he considers ''Dyno'' (implied to be an expy for the children's character Barney) to be his hero.

* AwesomeButImpractical: In ''2'', he's probably the best merc in the game when it comes to raw stats. His physical attributes are sky-high, his marksmanship is great, he's excellent at picking locks and fixing items, and is better at stealth than most of the dedicated stealth mercs. He is also right next to Gus in his ''extremely'' high price tag. The 1.13 mod adds another wrinkle by giving him [[StickyFingers the habit of stealing items]] from the sector, requiring you to constantly micromanage his inventory if you don't want him weighed down.

* AwesomeButImpractical: Easily one of the best mercs in ''2'', except for his average agility, slow real-time walking speed, and ''very'' high price tag, which pushes him into this. By the time you can actually afford him for more than a few days, chances are you don't need him anyway. Most players who hire him just bring him in for a day in order to take his equipment before dismissing him.

* DiscOneNuke: In ''2'', he's one of the most reliable early-game mercs on the roster. His traits, decent marksmanship, high mechanical skills and low price make him a appealing and economical choice. He'll have a tough time keeping up with dedicated mechanics or lockpicking doors due to his low Dexterity stat, but the 1.13 mod gives him the Engineer trait which gives massive bonuses to lockpicking and repairing, helping to offset that Dexterity.

* BoomerangBigot: Is the only one paid mercenary who shares the same Hates Nationality field as his own.

* {{Expy}}: In a gameplay example, he's [=M.E.R.C.=]'s equivalent to Gus Tarballs with both being heavy weapons specialists who are the most expensive of their respective rosters. Horge is specialized toward direct combat with worse non-combat stats compared to Gus, but is also half the price with better physical stats.

* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: Comes with an experience rating of 6.

* MrFixit: Early on, he is a good source of mechanical expertise, especially because he is free once you get the food shipped to Omerta from Drassen after finding Father Walker. His mediocre Dexterity and Wisdom means he will need a lot of training to keep up with dedicated Engineer mercs.

* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: An excellent markswoman with a Rocket Rifle and Compound 18 treated Spectra armor.

* JerkassWoobie: Elliot is a willing and loyal supporter of tyrannical despot who thinks nothing of slaughtering her own subjects wholesale, but the sheer amount of abuse he goes through at his employer's hands might compel you to spare a few moments of sympathy for him.

* HeteronormativeCrusader: Assassinated a federal judge in the U.S. for making a favorable ruling toward same-sex couples.

* BreatherBoss: He is poorly armed and unlike the others, don't require much effort to defeat.

* EveryoneHasStandards: In ''3'' he happily commits to hunting down the people on Maman Liliane's hitlist as they abused her girls. He aslo happily executes the literal slave driver in Diamond red.

* BrokenBird: The Sequel, her novel was rejected, she broke up with Lynx. She now hates all men as a result of said incident.

* TechnicalPacifist: What got him fired from AIM prior to ''2'', as he got Snake killed in a botched negotiation attempt with armed natives in Maupaa.

* DiscOneNuke: In ''2'', he's one of the most reliable early-game mercs on the roster. His traits, decent marksmanship, high mechanical skills and low price make him a appealing and economical choice. He can remain useful for the entire game, though he'll have a tough time keeping up with dedicated mechanics or lockpicking doors due to his low Dexterity stat.

* MagikarpPower: Grizzly's abysmal Dexterity is pretty much the only black mark against him. If you manage to push it up just a little, into the low-to-mid sixties, he becomes an excellent shooter for the commander on a budget.

* DiscOneNuke: In ''Jagged Alliance 3''. Barry is a recruit tier merc with good Explosive skills and a decent Marksmanship which already pegs him as a good beginning demolitions expert. His real value however comes from his ability to produce two shaped charges for free every week. They deal comparable damage to late game explosives and have a cone of effect as opposed to a blast radius. This makes them suitable for killing a bunch of approaching enemies danger close by simply throwing it right in front of you. This can carry you through some of the more difficult early game encounters.

* MagikarpPower: Her high wisdom means she can become a scarily competent -- yet very cheap -- merc if one is willing to invent the time to train her.

* AintTooProudtoBeg: In his [=M.E.R.C.=] additional info just says ''Please hire Stogie''. ''We don't want to lose him''."

* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: He is a leader of a rebel militia in the US.

* SoapboxSadie: Downplayed and Parodied. She's careful enough about not offending anyone with language that the worst she says about the enemy soldiers she's up against is that they're "not very competent" or how they're "rude" for shooting her.

* BerserkButton: Slavers. Meeting with Graaf in 3 is one of the few times he gets angry. He will disobey orders and shoot him if the player try to keep Graaf as the foreman.

* HuntingTheMostDangerousGame: After he was bored with the poachers, he started hunting them instead. He is thrilled when offered to "hunt" Legion Thugs and [[spoiler:Grande Chien Soldiers]] instead.
* TokenEvilTeammate: While not exactly AxCrazy like some mercs, he enjoys his "hunt" a little too much while not caring one bit about politics or morality.

* TheCobblersChildrenHaveNoShoes: He is unable to cure his own family from a disease and it's hurting his reputation. Seeing as it took [[{{Panacea}} Metaviron]] to cure them, he probably can't be faulted for that.

* TheCracker: Learned both computer hacking and lockpicking out of a mix of boredom and curiosity, and breaks into secure databases in her spare time.
* InLoveWithYourCarnage: Occasionally comments on how hot a particularly gruesome kill was.
* SoapboxSadie: Downplayed and Parodied. She's careful enough about not offending anyone with language that the worst she says about the enemy soldiers she's up against is that they're "not very competent" or how they're "rude" for shooting her.
* SweetTooth: Her only concern upon being hired to liberate a country in west Africa is about the availability of her favorite snack foods, and she occasionally offers to share her stash of chocolate cashews.
* WellDoneSonGuy: In one of her death soundbytes, she laments having to die before she can earn her parents' respect.

* BloodKnight: Treats combat like a hunting challenge.
* BloodLust: It also extends to his in game trait, he has increased damage when seeing enemies bleed.
* ColdSniper: Even more so than Reaper, he enjoys doing his things alone and picking off his targets unseen.
* EgomaniacHunter: Joined the Poachers looking to hunt more exotic animals, until he realized he have hunted just about every game on the land, except humans that is.
* HuntingTheMostDangerousGame: After he was bored with the poachers, he started hunting them instead. He is thrilled when offered to "hunt" Legion Thugs and [[spoiler:Grande Chien Soldiers]] instead.

* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: Resembles Richard Marcinko of ''Literature/RogueWarrior'' fame.

* AwesomeButImpractical: While his stats are amazing, he starts out with Experience level 1 and asks $2400 a day. Allow him to reach Level 7 and he'll start asking $7500 ''per day''. For that price, there's a number of other mercs that are nearly as good and go much easier on your bank balance.

* BerserkButton: Hates Cliff due to South Africa tensions, the only person he hates more than Cliff is Bubba. In the third game, his dialogue during conversations with NPC's makes it clear that he has nothing good to offer white colonialists, poachers, and their collaborators.

* InappropriateHunger: In the third game, where around half of his lines (including digging into cover and ''blowing an enemy's head apart'') have something to do with food.

* DiscOneNuke: Possibly the most reliable early-game merc on the roster. His traits, decent marksmanship, high mechanical skills and low price make him one of the best mercs to hire at the start. He can remain useful for the entire game, though he'll have a tough time keeping up with dedicated mechanics or lockpicking doors due to his low Dexterity stat.

* WhatTheHellIsThatAccent: It's ''supposed'' to be Polish.
** In 3 they don't even bother and just have the VA do a bad yet hilarious Arnold impression.

* GeniusDitz: A redneck and a complete idiot, but an exeptional mechanic.
* NoodleIncident: His dialogue is drowing in these. According to him he once OD'd on some pumpkin seeds and had to get part of his colon removed, almost bled out because he somehow bit his ankle and more.

* SmugSnake: A smarmy, overconfident, treacherous asshole with delusions of adequacy.
