Trope was cut/disambiguated due to cleanup

* CharClone: He wears a mask similar to Char's, has pale hair, and is a recurring antagonist for our heroes whose intentions aren't initially clear. [[spoiler:He has prior ties to the Order of Heroes, too, being the missing Zacharias.]]

!Embla, the Empire of Closure
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/emblaseal.png]]
[[caption-width-right:350:The Eye of Embla]]

During the course of Book I, Embla is the main antagonistic force that opposes Askr. While Askr creates a force called the Order of Heroes to defend their home from invaders, Embla seeks to conquer their rival kingdom and add their numbers to their own.

They return to the spotlight in Book VI, as villages and towns mysteriously disappear under a [[PowerOfTheVoid dark void]], closing them out from existence itself. All the while, Elm, the retainer to the god of Embla herself, antagonizes the Order of Heroes.

[[folder:The Emblian Empire In General]]
* AlwaysFemale: All of the generic fliers are female.
* BigScrewedUpFamily: Book I establishes that the Emblian royal family has many members, with Alfonse incapable of identifying Prince Bruno because of it. Book VI expands upon this, with Veronica's father having seized the throne by framing Letizia's family for treason and [[PrincelingRivalry jumping the line of succession]].
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: They wear colors depending on what weapons their wielding, and in some cases, what color their weapon is. All colorless weapon users, however, wear purple.
* CompetitiveBalance: All generic enemies follow a certain statline, depending on what class they are:
** Fighters and Manaketes are [[JackOfAllStats Jacks-of-All-Stats]].
** Thieves and Pegasus Fliers are {{Fragile Speedster}}s.
** Knights and Dragon Fliers are {{Mighty Glacier}}s.
** Physical Cavaliers and Bow Fliers are {{Glass Cannon}}s.
** Mages, Mage Cavaliers, Mage Fliers, Clerics, and Troubadours are {{Squishy Wizard}}s.
** The Fáfnirs and Bats are {{Lightning Bruiser}}s.
* DecadentCourt: Embla's royal court is a mess of backstabbing political opponents due to having a [[BigScrewedUpFamily massively complicated family tree]], with Bruno and Letizia's families both being accused of treason in order to strip them of power, and even Veronica herself [[spoiler:being threatened with usurpers to the throne]].
* DragonAncestry: All of the Emblian royal family carry the blood of the dark god, Embla in their veins. [[spoiler:It is later revealed by Bruno that she has inflicted a curse on the royal family bloodline of Embla, meaning they can be used as Embla's puppets of destruction at will.]]
* EliteMook: Similarly to the Steam Units, the Bats are introduced after the midpoint in Book VI, can be of the three core colors, and are also the first unnamed mooks that are Beast units.
* EvilWearsBlack: No matter what colors they wear, black is the most dominant color on their uniforms.
* TheFaceless: All of the Emblian mooks with the exception of the Thieves (in their portrait, everything except for their eye is covered) don't really show much of their faces with the exception of their mouths. Even the Pegasus Fliers, who don't even have anything covering their faces, still have their eyes covered in shadow.
* {{Mooks}}: Excluding the Steam units, all generic enemies within ''Heroes'' are from Embla, even where it shouldn't make sense.
* NaginatasAreFeminine: The generic Lance Fighter is the only physical Infantry that is undeniably female, and even more so with Paralogue 30-2, where one of them is seen in the ''women's'' bath.
* PowerFloats: Bats, unlike Fáfnirs, do not use their wings to fly, and instead float to move around.
* SheIsTheKing: ZigZagged. Anna refers to the current ruler (Veronica's stepmother) as Empress in Book I, but actual Emblian royals in Book VI call her the Emperor.
* SigilSpam: They like to show off their insignia on their shields, the badges they wear, and sometimes their clothes. They also wear a simpler version of their insignias on their headwear.
* ThemeNaming: Embla was the name of the first female human in Myth/NorseMythology.
* VillainsOutShopping: During seasonal paralogues, you can find them alongside the Heroes relaxing and enjoying the festivities. It becomes more pronounced from Paralogue 22 onward, when they start packing appropriate accessories and {{Nerf Arm}}s.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting:
** The Manakete and Fáfnir units transform into dragons to attack their enemies.
** The Bat units do too, but rather into [[BatOutOfHell giant bats]].

->''"You address Embla. And it is my blood, the blood I granted your ancestors that flows within you. Your blood is my blood. And so, you are mine. Head, arms, legs, all... Hm-hm-hmh-ha-hah..."''

One of the two dragon gods of Midgard, Embla created the closed kingdom of the Emblian Empire. She is spiteful to how humans chose Askr over her, and wishes to bring death to those who he protects. In November 2022, she was released as a Mythic Hero of Dark.

----
* ActionInitiative: Her Enclosing Claw allows her to ignore skills that guarantee the foe's follow-up attacks during combat if she is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat and there is at least 2 foes within 3 row and/or 3 columns centered on her. She also has Beast Agility, where it ignore skills that prevents her follow-up attacks if she is faster than her foe during combat.
* AntagonistInMourning: [[spoiler:She's deeply troubled by Askr's death, which just fed further into her loneliness. She lashes out and insults Askr, but Embla's memories in Veronica all focus on her interactions with Askr, hinting that Embla actually really misses him]].
* AntiDebuff: Her Severance allows her to remove any [Penalty] active on her at the start of her turn if there is a foe within 3 row or 3 columns centered on her.
* ArcVillain: She is the main antagonist of Book VI.
* BatOutOfHell: She can transform into a giant draconic bat, and she's the cause of Book I and VI's conflicts.
* BreakingOldTrends: Embla is the first ArcVillain to not be a green unit, being red instead. And unlike [[spoiler:Fáfnir]] in Book V, she plays this trope completely straight.
* CapeWings: A variation. When not in use, she wraps her wings around her hips like a skirt.
* CooldownManipulation: Her Enclosing Claw has the Inverted version, where she inflicts on the foe -1 special buildup per attack if she is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat and there are at least 2 foes within 3 rows and/or 3 columns centered on her.
* DamageIncreasingDebuff: Her Enclosing Claw inflicts -3 Atk/Spd/Def on the foe during combat for each foe within 3 rows or 3 columns centered on her, up to -9 Atk/Spd/Def during combat.
* DamageReduction: Her Severance grants her the [Dodge] status effect at the start of turn if there is a foe within 3 rows or 3 columns centered on her, where [Dodge] reduces damage taken from foe's attacks and non-Røkkr AOE specials by 4% for each point of Spd she has over her foe, up to 40% damage reduced.
* DarkIsEvil: Embla is a Dark Mythic Hero, and the evil patron god of the Emblian Empire.
* DemonicPossession: She is able to assume control of any Emblian Royal carrying her blood, no matter how little they have. She does this on Bruno in Book I (despite not making a physical appearance), and [[spoiler:Veronica, Letizia, and Bruno in Book VI]].
* DrivenByEnvy: She is bitterly jealous and resentful of Askr for having humanity's favor. It all started when some of her people were endeared by Askr's power and went to his kingdom to learn more about his side. However, she felt ''extremely'' betrayed by the simple gesture that she closed off relationships between her and Askr's people.
* {{Egopolis}}: The Emblian Empire is named after her.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: When she finds out [[spoiler:Askr sacrificed his life to give the Order of Heroes the Yggdrasil Key, she concludes it was his own fault for always "meddling" with others lives. Later, after the Order of Heroes free Veronica from her control, she expresses anger and confusion over why Bruno would give up his life to save his sister, dismissing Veronica as just "this girl"]].
* EvilerThanThou: When she crosses paths with [[spoiler:Letizia]] in Book VI, she possesses the latter to show that she's a much more dangerous threat.
* EyeMotifs: A lot of things associated with Embla relates to eyes. The Empire's sigil is an eye, victims of her possession have glowing red eyes, she wears an eyepatch and her weapon includes a flaming eye, etc.
* EyepatchOfPower: She has a black band over her right eye, and as a goddess, she's one of the most powerful beings on Midgard.
* EyesDoNotBelongThere: Her dragon form has her eye located directly on her stomach, while her face has [[EyelessFace no eyes to speak of]].
* FallenHero: According to Askr, she used to be a kind person who truly loved her people, and she got along with him fairly well. When her people started leaving and traveling to other places, essentially leaving her alone, she didn't take it well, and became spiteful and cruel out of envy.
* FatalFlaw: Distrust. [[spoiler:She did dearly love her people even if [[{{Tsundere}} she didn't show it on the surface]], but after one of her mortals tried to kill her for her power, it began to sow distrust in mortals (in part thanks to Elm) and it continued to grow and grow until it consumed her. By the end of Book VI, she resolves to just kill all mortals even though she's just deeply lonely]].
* FinalBoss: She is the last boss you face in Book VI.
* {{Foil}}: To Askr. Askr has the ability to open gates and portals to other realms, while Embla has the power to close off portals and to trap others in a void. This is reflected in their personalities; Askr is friendly, cheerful, optimistic and idealistic, willing to open up to others, while Embla is cruel, gloomy, pessimistic and cynical, preferring to close herself off. Additionally, while Askr understands that HumansAreFlawed, he chooses to believe in them until the very end; in contrast, Embla believes that HumansAreBastards and loses her faith in them.
* GoodWingsEvilWings: She has giant bat wings attached to her hips and opposes Askr and the Order of Heroes.
* GreaterScopeVillain: Due to Veronica and Bruno's DemonicPossession, she is the one pulling the strings for the original Askr and Embla conflict in Book I. It's not until Book VI when she becomes the ArcVillain.
* HatesBeingAlone: After everyone in Embla fled to Askr in fear of her growing tyranny, leaving her alone, she declared Askr her enemy and sealed off her world so the few people remaining couldn't leave her. She even frequently has nightmares of the time when she was completely alone that Elm usually wakes her from.
* HumansAreBastards: [[spoiler:After a mortal tried to kill for her power and Elm ranted about all mortals being selfish, she started to believe all mortals deserve to die. Then, when her people started visiting Askr to see what it was like, she saw this as betrayal and became cruel and tyrannical. By the time of Book VI, she has only hatred for mortals.]] Even before it became as bad as it did, she wanted nothing to do with them and had to be convinced by Askr to join him in his quest to uplift Midgard.
* HumansAreInsects: She repeatedly expresses disappointment whenever [[spoiler:the Askrans defeat her chosen vessel, insulting them as worthless, and later makes a spiteful declaration to the deceased Askr about how powerless mortals are]].
-->'''Embla:''' Do you see, Askr?! Do you see how weak they are? How easily your precious mortals become nothing?
* InformedAttribute: Even though she is called a dragon, she is counted as a Beast unit in gameplay.
* LightningBruiser: She has outstanding Spd at 44 and Atk at 43, and average HP at 41 and Def at 31, but below average Res at 25.
* LittleBitBeastly: She has pointy bat ears and large bat wings on her hips.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: While it takes until Book VI Chapter 12 to fully kick in, [[spoiler:her constantly possessing her vessels, eventually leaving both Letizia and Bruno dead, leaves her with no one left to control after the Order of Heroes free Veronica with the Yggdrasil Key]].
* NoSell: Her Enclosing Claws allows her to ignore skills that inflicts -1 special buildup per attack on her if she is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat. She also has Atk/Spd Clash 4, where, in addition to granting her +6 Atk/Spd during combat if either her or her foe initiated combat and moved to a different space, and +1 additional Atk/Def during combat for each space the initiator moved, up to +4 Atk/Spd during combat, has her ignore any field stat debuffs on her Atk/Spd during combat if the initiator moved at least 2 spaces before combat, and Beast Agility 3, where, in addition to always allow her to tranform, allows her to ignore skills that prevents her follow-up attacks if she is faster than her for during combat.
* NothingButSkinAndBones: She's extremely emaciated, and the outline of her skeleton can be seen in all her art poses.
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: She's a dragon with bat-like features.
* PastExperienceNightmare: Whenever she sleeps, she is tormented by nightmares of the time everyone in Embla fled from her, and she was completely alone.
* PointyEars: She has fairly large pointy ears that resembles a bat's. Fittingly, she transforms into a giant bat.
* PoorCommunicationKills: When a few of her people left for Askr, she felt betrayed and became suspicious of him. When eventually everyone left to escape her growing tyranny, Askr tried to explain, but she refused to listen.
* PowerFloats: Like her retainer, Embla floats without the aid of a mount or even her wings.
* PowerOfTheVoid: She has control over the void and darkness, in which anyone within the area of effect of her powers are cut off from the rest of the world.
* PreMortemOneLiner:
-->''"Emptiness enclose you!"''\\
''"Your future is undone."''\\
''"Feel sorrow!"''\\
''"Suffer as I have."'''
* ProperlyParanoid: While it was her unfounded paranoia that led to her and Askr becoming enemies, [[spoiler:her paranoia also led her to continue spying on him for centuries after their departure, leading to her learning about the Yggdrasill Key's power, and being able to anticipate the Order of Heroes using it against her]].
* PutThemAllOutOfMyMisery: [[spoiler:Her loneliness consumes her to the point where she decides to just kill all the mortals in both her realm and Askr. [[EvenEvilHasStandards Notably, Elm is actually put off by this train of thought]]]].
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Her clothing is largely black, with red on the inside of her dress and the tattered ribbon attached to her staff. Likewise with her costume in Askr's Duo New Year's alt, which is red with black highlights.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: She has at least one red left eye and is the ArcVillain of Book VI.
* SecretArt: She has Severance exclusive to her, where if there is a foe within 3 rows or 3 columns centered on her, she inflicts the [Undefended][[note]]unable to be the target of [Savior][[/note]] and [Feud][[note]]disable all ally's skill during combat, such as the Spur and Rein skills.[[/note]] status effects on all foes within that range, removes any [Penalty] active on her, and grants her [Dodge][[note]]reduces damage taken from foe's attack and non-Røkkr AOE special by 4% foe each point of Spd she has over her foe, up to 40% damage reduced[[/note]] at the start of her turn.
* SignatureLaugh: She likes to cackle with a consistent "Hm-hm-hmh" line, sometimes extending it if she wants to laugh.
* SpeakIllOfTheDead: [[spoiler:After finding out Askr died to give the Order of Heroes a chance against her in Book VI, she has only scorn for him choosing to die when he could have lived by conserving his power. Later as she's about to kill Alfonse, she mocks Askr's fondness for mortals, telling Alfonse that when he meets Askr to tell him his love of mortals was wasted]].
* StartOfDarkness: [[spoiler:After Askr convinced her to join him in uplifting Midgard, she became cautiously optimistic and began thinking that mortals may not be so bad. Then one of them got greedy and tried to kill her for her empowering blood. That, along with Elm unintentionally stoking her anger, turned her from the cynical yet kind goddess to the hateful goddess she is now]].
* StatusBuff:
** Her Enclosing Claw grants her +5 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat if she is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat. She also has Atk/Spd Clash 4, where she gains +6 Atk/Spd during combat if either her or her foe initiated combat and moved to a different space, and +1 additional Atk/Spd during combat for each space the initiator moved, up to +4 Atk/Def during combat, totalling up to +10 Atk/Spd during combat.
** As a Mythic Hero of Dark, if an ally has a Dark Blessing during Dark season in Aether Raids, she gives them +5 HP/Res if they're on the battlefield, which can be stacked with other Mythic Heroes of Dark, including copies of herself.
** As a Flying Beast, her weapons have the standard effect of granting +1 movement at the start of her turn if she transforms.
* StrawNihilist: After her betrayal, she has absolutely no faith in anyone and sneers at Askr's continued belief that [[RousseauWasRight everyone has good inside them]] and his fascination with mortals, retorting that they live only to die and disdaining their weakness.
* StopWorshippingMe: In the past, when Emblians built shrines and brought her gifts and offerings, she found it annoying and told them to stop. Askr convinced her to let them continue.
* TragicVillain: [[spoiler:She used to be a kind and benevolent God, but she was always deeply insecure. Askr tried his best to ensure her that everything was fine but her loneliness consumed her and eventually she just started lashing out at the mortals in both realms. By the time her story ends, there's little left but a bitter God who just wanted to be loved and yet couldn't accept that her people did just that]].
* TransformationOfThePossessed: Of a sort. [[spoiler:After being defeated while possessing Veronica in Chapter 9, Embla awakens her blood in Veronica, giving her a more mature body and her dress wings resembling her own.]]
* {{Tsundere}}: Back when she was still a kind goddess, while outwardly uncaring, she truly loved her people, and despite being uncomfortable with being worshipped, let them continue after a bit of convincing from Askr.
* UnseenNoMore: Mentioned since Book I as the Empire's namesake dragon god, but doesn't appear in-person until Book VI.
* VerbalTic: She enjoys sprinkling many of her sentences with "Hm-hm-hmh...", presumably an EvilLaugh.
* VillainousBreakdown: In Book VI Chapter 12, [[spoiler:seeing that the Order of Heroes still have the Yggdrasil Key, failing to seal the key with her powers, the key successfully freeing Veronica, and no one else with her blood left to possess, she's left fuming about [[ThisCannotBe how it should be impossible]], and how she thought of every possibility, before screaming about how Bruno's sacrifice screwed her over.]]
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Like Elm, she transforms into a giant bat, though her form is a far more draconic, fiting her nature as a dragon. As a bonus, she comes with Beast Agility 3, where it allows her to tranform regardless of her tranformation conditions.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: She has white hair and directly opposes the Order of Heroes and the god Askr.

----
* AchillesHeel: He is counted as a flying unit, and so is weak against Bows and certain wind Tomes.
* ActionInitiative: His Near Year variant's Fang of Finality allows him to ignore skills that prevents any of his follow-up attacks if he either initiates combat or is not adjacent to an ally.
* ArmorPiercingAttack: His Near Year variant has Luna, which allows him to ignore 50% of the foe's defenses when it triggers.
* BatOutOfHell: He transforms into a giant bat to attack his foes and happens to be a villain.
* BigBadDuumvirate: With Letizia. [[spoiler:Until she's defeated and he simply casts her aside, allowing his master Embla to take over.]]
* DamageIncreasingDebuff: His Near Year variant has C Feud 3, where, in addition to negating all Colorless foe's skills excluding the target during combat and ignoring all foe's skills excluding the target if the foe is Colorless, inflicts -4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res on the foe during combat if the foe is Colorless.
* DamageReduction:
** His regular version's Fang of Closure allows him to reduce damage taken from the foe's first attack equal to X%, where X = the amount of foes within 3 spaces of him x 20, up to 60% damage reduced.
** His Near Year variant's Fang of Finality allows him to reduce damage taken from the foe's attacks and non-Røkkr AOE specials equal to X%, where X = the amount of foes within 3 spaces of his target x 20, up to 60% damage reduced, if he is not adjacent to an ally.
* TheDragon: The retainer of Embla.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He's unfailingly loyal to Embla, but... [[spoiler:When Embla suggests that she should just kill all the mortals, Elm strongly suggests she reconsider this course of action. He may not like mortals, but even he thinks what she's suggesting is too much]].
* EvilRedhead: He's a red-haired villain.
* FashionableAsymmetry: One of his leggings shows more skin than the other.
* FlatCharacter: Unlike the other Book VI characters, Elm doesn't get any character development and barely gets screentime. His only defining traits are his loyalty to Embla and his short spurts of insults before battle.
* {{Foil}}: To Ash. Ash is kind and very wordy, while Elm is rude and goes straight to the point. Additionally, Ash is clad in a white-and-blue outfit, while Elm is clad in a dark-and-red outfit.
* FragileSpeedster:
** His regular version has fantastic Spd, great Atk, and average HP and Res, but below average Def.
** His New Year variant has outstanding Spd at 45, fantatic Atk at 40, and average HP at 41 and Res at 31, but below average Def at 27.
* HitAndRunTactics: His New Year variant has Beast N Trace 3, which, in addition removing his tranformation condition, gives him [Canto (Rem. +1)], which allows him to move spaces equal to the remainder of the spaces he did not use yet plus one after taking an action once per turn.
* {{Jerkass}}: Described as a being whose words are always meant to be crude and insulting to whoever he doesn't like. For instance, he straight out calls Ash a cow and makes fun of her for that. In addition, despite working together, he doesn't even express any concern over the possibility of Letizia's plan failing, finding amusement if that were to happen. Then again, her plans failing only affect her, but not him.
* MeaningfulName: Elm's name is a translation of "Embla" into English, which means "elm tree" in Old Norse.
* OnlyFriend: Since he was created to serve her, Embla views Elm as her only true companion, who could never leave her or betray her like her subjects once did.
-->'''Embla:''' Elm... My loyal servant... Not like those mortals... Only you will never betray me... You are the only one I can trust... Only you...
* PointyEars: He has pointy ears, which is fitting due to him transforming into a bat.
* PowerFloats: His humanoid form floats without the aid of a mount or wings, and so is counted as a Flying unit, to make it fitting for someone who transforms into a giant bat.
* PreMortemOneLiner:
-->''"I'll shut you up!"''\\
''"Ugh..."''\\

''"Don't celebrate just yet."'' (''Gods Renewed'')\\
''"At least this is fun!"'' (''Gods Renewed'')\\
''"Enjoy the festivities."'' (''Gods Renewed'')\\
''"To a new year!"'' (''Gods Renewed'')
* SemanticSuperpower: Embla's powers before Book VI were merely presented as being able to close the gates to other worlds created with Askr's powers. But Elm shows that Embla's power of closure is much stronger than just closing things that can be opened, as seen with him "closing off" an entire village from the world, leaving nothing left but a dark barrier that consumes anything that touches it.
* SituationalDamageAttack:
** His regular version's Fang of Closure allows his first attack to deal damage equal to X% of his Spd during combat, where X = the amount of foes within 3 spaces of him x 10, up to 30% of his Spd, so not only will he deal more damage the faster he is, but will also deal more damage if there are more foes near him.
** His Near Year variant's Fang of Finality follows suit allows him to deal damage equal to X% of his Spd during combat if he either initiates combat or is not adjacent to an ally, where X = the amount of foes within 3 spaces of his target x 10, up to 30% of his Spd, so not only will he deal more damage the faster he is, but will also deal more damage if there are more foes near his target.
* StatusBuff:
** His regular version's Fang of Closure grants him +6 Atk/Spd during combat if he is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat.
** His Near Year variant's Fang of Finality grants him +6 Atk/Spd during combat if he either initiates combat or is not adjacent to an ally.
** As a Flying Beast, his weapons have the standard effect of granting +1 movement at the start of his turn if he transforms.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Book VI Chapter 13 reveals that [[spoiler:after a mortal tried to kill Embla for her power, Elm ranted about how all mortals are powerhungry and deceitful. [[ALessonLearnedTooWell Embla took his words to heart]]]].
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: He transforms into a giant bat to attack his foes, and so is counted as a Beast unit in gameplay.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Similarly to Ash, after his defeat in Book VI, Chapter 11, his fate is left unknown, as he does not appear again (except in flashbacks). He reappears in the Forging Bonds event "Depths of Despair", confirming that he is alive.

->''"This kingdom must fall. Once it's gone, no one will oppose me. Every Hero, in every world -- they'll all be mine. Every last one."''

The young princess of the Emblian Empire. She aims to destroy and conquer the Kingdom of Askr by manipulating heroes from other worlds. In November 2022, she was released as a Legendary Hero of Wind.

* ActionInitiative:
** Pirate Harmonized Veronica & Xander's Gate-Anchor Axe, in addition to giving the user +5 Def/Res during combat and inflicting -5 Def/Res on the foe during combat, allows the user to gain a guaranteed follow-up attack if the user is not adjacent to an ally.
** Pirate Harmonized Veronica & Xander's Harmonized Skill gives the user and all allies from ''Heroes'' and ''Fates'' the Resonance: Shields status where, in addition to giving +4 Def/Res during combat, allows them to deny any enemy follow-up attack at every first battle on each player and enemy phase for one turn.
** Legendary Veronica's Enclosing Dark allows her to have any of her follow-up attacks go before the foe can counterattack if she initiates combat, and ignore skills that prevents any of her follow-up attacks, and if there is two or more foes within 2 spaces of her target prevents the foe from counterattacking if she either initiates combat or is not adjacent to an ally, and
* AlternateSelf: Veronica from the "Arrival of the Brave" banner is this to the regular one, while also being the only playable version of her until the Regal Rabbits banner released Spring Veronica and the Pirate's Pride banner released Harmonized Pirate Veronica & Xander. The same is true for the playable version of her Legendary self.
-->'''Brave Veronica:''' I am Veronica. However, I am different than the Veronica you know.\\
'''Legendary Veronica:''' The Veronica of this world is...much like me. We both have many faults.
* AntiVillain: Veronica antagonists the Order of Heroes in Book I, but it's eventually revealed that she and her brother suffer from a curse that plagued the royal family of Embla for centuries: They can be possessed by their patron goddess Embla, who desires nothing more than to destroy Askr and his kind. After Embla is defeated, Veronica drops the villain part altogether and becomes a permanent ally of the Order of Heroes.
* ArcVillain: She's the main antagonist of Book I.
* BadBoss: Zigzagged. During Book I, she threatens any Hero that tries to defy her, but she releases them from their contract when defeated. Veronica gets along well with Xander, Bruno, and the Order of Heroes (in later Books) though.
* BalanceBuff:
** Update 4.9.0 gives Brave Veronica's Hliðskjálf a refinement, where the unique refinement allows her to give +3 Atk/Spd to all allies within 3 spaces of her and inflicts -3 Def/Res to all foes within 3 spaces of her during combat.
** Update 6.4.0 gives Spring Veronica's Veðrfölnir's Egg a refinement, where the refined version gives her +4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat as well as gain Atk equal to the highest total field stat buff of an ally within 2 spaces of her during combat, and the unique refinement allows her to grant +6 Atk/Spd and the [Orders] status[[note]]unit can move to an adjacent space of any ally within 2 spaces[[/note]] to herself and any allies within 2 spaces of her at the start of her turn if she is within 2 spaces of an ally, as well as gain +5 Atk/Spd during combat if she is within 3 spaces of an ally.
* BenevolentBoss: Gets along well with Xander, and even goes to Múspell to keep Surtr from killing him.
* BigBadDuumvirate: In Book II, she allies with Surtr to defeat Askr and the Order of Heroes. [[spoiler:The did not last very long though, breaking down at Book II, Chapter 8.]]
* BigBrotherWorship:
** While her regular variant shares some close moments with her brother, her Brave variant on the other hand deeply cares for him, as her goal when you summon her is to find him.
** Though she doesn't discuss it as much as she does Bruno, she's still close to Letizia, a relative who she sees as a big sister figure despite the two becoming physically separated when Veronica's father claimed the throne by framing Letizia's family for treason. In the English localization, she even has an AffectionateNickname for Letizia, "Sissy".
* BlowYouAway: Her Legendary variant has the Wind element, despite her Enclosing Dark being a [[CastingAShadow darkness spell]], though only Mythic units can be Dark.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: During Book I, she sometimes hears a voice that speaks to her and compels her to "kill". As it turns out, all those who have descended from the goddess Embla are compelled to kill those who descended from Askr, which comes back into full force in Book VI.
* BreakoutCharacter: Despite ''Heroes''' status as a spinoff, Veronica is included as a DLC emblem in ''Fire Emblem Engage''.
* CombatMedic: Her Brave version is a Troubadour, riding on horseback while using a MagicStaff to attack/debuff foes (which is particularly effective thanks to her Wrathful Staff skill and her staff's built-in Dazzling Staff effect) and heal/buff allies.
* CreepyChild: An obviously prepubescent girl who ensnares legendary heroes in {{Magically Binding Contract}}s, treats war as a game and her collection of heroes like dolls (and her ''actual'' dolls badly), and is motivated by [[HearingVoices voices in her head]] telling her to kill and invade. As the story goes on, she learns from the people around her and starts to grow out of this.
* DaddysLittleVillain: Her attacks on Askr continue the legacy of her beloved late father, while her currently reigning stepmother is apparently a pacifist.
* DamageIncreasingDebuff:
** Her Brave variant's Hliðskjálf inflicts -4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res on her target and any foes within 2 spaces of the target after combat if she attacked. The unique refine for Hliðskjálf also inflicts -3 Def/Res on any foes within 3 spaces of her during combat.
** Her Spring variant has Chill Res, which inflicts -7 Res to the enemy with the highest Res at the start of her turn.
** Her Pirate Harmonized variant wields the Gate-Anchor Axe, which inflicts -5 Def/Res on the foe during combat if she is not adjacent to an ally. She also has Lull Atk/Def, which inflicts -3 Atk/Def on the foe and negates field buffs to the foe's Atk and Def during combat.
** Her Valentine variant has Pact Blooms+, which inflicts -5 Atk/Res on the foe during combat if she is within 2 spaces of an ally. She also has Chill Spd, which inflicts -7 Spd on the foe with the highest Spd at the start of her turn.
** Her Legendary variant's Enclosing Dark inflicts -4 Spd/Res on the foe during combat if the target has exactly 1 foe within 2 spaces of the target, and goes to -8 Spd/Res during combat if there are at least 2 foes within 2 spaces of the target. She also has S/R Far Trace 3, where it inflicts -3 Spd/Res on the foe during combat, and Panic Smoke 4, where, in addition to inflicting [Panic], also inflicts -3 Atk/Spd/Def/Res after combat, as well as grant [Foe Penalty Doubler] to herself and all allies within cardinal directions of her after combat, where [Foe Penalty Doubler] inflicts on the foe's Atk/Spd/Def/Res equal to the value of the foe's field stat debuffs on each stat.
* DarkMagicalGirl: As a rare BigBad example. She's young, a talented magic user, opposes the heroes, was deeply marked by a parent's legacy (her dad, in her case), and is said to be a deeply sad girl under a cold facade.
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler:Her bloodline's curse starts to become strong enough as of Book VI where she it seems like she is being possessed by Embla, indicating by her eyes changing colour and her starting to [[red:talk in red]]. Even her epithet changes from "Emblian Princess" to "Princess Beset".]]
* DemotedToDragon: She starts off as the BigBad of Book I, but in Book II she gets sidelined as the main antagonist by Surtr.
* DemotedToExtra: After previous Books at least had Veronica helping the Order of Heroes and getting another Book to focus on her in Book VI, Veronica has no role in Book VII aside from a brief cameo where she is defeated by Gullveig.
* DiscOneFinalBoss: Is fought in Book I Chapter 9-5, which was the final level in the main story at the game's launch.
* DistinctionWithoutADifference: When Bruno asks her if she might be being controlled, she says she doesn't think so. However, she does notice a mysterious voice telling her to kill people, and she always feels compelled to do so.
* DressedToPlunder: She alongside Xander are dressed up as pirates in the Pirate's Pride banner, with the both of them paired up as a Harmonized Hero.
* EnemyMine: Before Veronica becomes an ally of Askr, she briefly had moments of helping the Order of Heroes throughout various Books:
** After teaming up with Surtr to destroy Askr in Book II and finding out she's going to be sacrificed to the Rite of Flame, she helps the Order of Heroes take down Surtr.
** At the start of Book III, she briefly entertains pulling a LetsYouAndHimFight and letting Hel weaken Askr, until Loki (correctly) points out that should Askr actually ''fall'', Hel would come for Embla next. Veronica eventually decides that isn't worth the risk and aids Askr.
** In Book IV, she tags along with the group to help after hearing rumors of her brother having returned.
** In Book V, the tables turn: this time it's the heroes who come to her aid and not the other way around.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: After her forces are defeated in Xenologue 1, she chooses to free her heroes instead of force them to fight to the death. She also doesn't seem too happy to be working with Surtr, as she only provides him with summoned heroes, and does not partake in the carnage he so enjoys. For example, when Surtr decides to burn down an Askran village, Veronica flatly tells him she wants to ''conquer'' Askr, not ''destroy'' it.
* EvilVersusOblivion: The Evil (wants to conquer Askr) to Surtr's Oblivion (wants to burn it to the ground).
* FinalBoss: Her regular variant was the final boss of the first Tempest Trials: Dark Clouds over Awakening, and depending on difficulty, [[SNKBoss had stats above her own average]]. Her Harmonized variant was also the final boss of Tempest Trials+: Royal Treasures.
* FrameUp: Is subject to one in Book VI, being falsely accused of murder, treason and the theft of a forbidden tome. The culprit behind the plot is [[spoiler:Letizia, who has always hated Veronica.]]
* FriendlyEnemy: She becomes increasingly reliable and cordial toward Askr, helping them out even while insisting they are still enemies. Averted at the end when Askr and Embla are finally at peace.
* GlassCannon:
** Her Brave variant has incredibly strong offensive stats for a healer, a powerful weapon which denies counterattacks by default, Wrathful Staff as her default B-skill, and the massive range of a ranged cavalry unit. This makes her a terrifying force on offense, but her lacking defenses make her very vulnerable should someone weather her attacks and engage her in the next phase.
** Her Spring variant has great Spd at 36, good Atk at 35, and average HP at 38, but low Res at 25 and poor Def at 16.
** Her Valentine variant has great Atk at 36 and Spd at 38, and average HP at 40, but low Def at 21 and Res at 22.
** Her Legendary variant has outstanding Spd at 45 and fantastic Atk at 42, but below average HP at 38 and Res at 25, and poor Def at 19.
* GoodCostumeSwitch: Zigzagged before eventually being played straight. In Book VI, after [[spoiler:being fully possessed by Embla]], she trades in her mostly black ensemble with red and gold highlights for a new dress with equal parts black and gold plus some red highlights. She keeps the new outfit after she completes her HeelFaceTurn at the end of the book.
* GreenEyedMonster: After being defeated in Chapter 9's last map, she rants about how Askr has more blessings and gifts than Embla.
* GuestFighter: Appears as a shadow wand adventurer in ''VideoGame/DragaliaLost''.
* AHeroToHerHometown: Embla loves her and cheers on her invasions of Askr, apparently because they were dissatisfied with "losing" the last war (by their new leader suing for peace when Embla was winning).
* HeelFaceTurn: After Surtr betrays her and tries to sacrifice her to fuel his immortality only for the Askrans to rescue her, she stops antagonizing Askr. In every subsequent Book, she allies herself with the Order of Heroes at some point [[{{Tsundere}} often saying that their alliance is temporary]]. Book VI cuts out the fluff as much of the early parts of the Book is about rescuing Veronica. She even admits that her time spent with Alfonse and Sharena gave her insight into what kind of ruler she truly wants to be, one that is there for her people. [[spoiler:Thus at the end of Book VI, after finding out that Embla had shut herself away from everyone and what that ultimately did to her, decides not to follow her god's mistake and ends the war with Askr, and asking to become friends with Alfonse and Sharena.]] Her change of heart from bad to good is further emphasized in the title screen as of Version 7.0.0, where Veronica's art is changed from her regular self to her Legendary version, and she is now facing the same direction as the other characters.
* HitAndRunTactics: Her Legendary variant has S/R Far Trace 3, which, in addition to inflicting -3 Spd/Res on the foe during combat, gives her [Canto (Rem.)], which allows her to move spaces equal to the remainder of the spaces she did not use yet after taking an action once per turn.
* HolidayMode: Her Spring variant wears bunny ears and a white and red dress while wielding a giant egg, similar to Sharena's spring variant.
* HumanSacrifice: [[spoiler:She is nearly ritually sacrificed to Surtr's Rite of Flames to fuel his immortality, alongside Ylgr, in Book II. Fortunately, Helbindi saves them.]]
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Xenologue 1 shows that she suffers from loneliness due to not having any friends or family to spend time with. [[spoiler:At the end of Book VI, she asks Sharena and Alfonse if she can be friends with them]].
* {{Irony}}:
** Until Loki unofficially took over, Veronica was the one who issued contracts to heroes, forcing them to work for the empires of Embla and Múspell. This started seeping into the seasonal Paralogues, and the ''Arrival of the Brave'' Paralogue was no exception. In this Paralogue, it's Brave Veronica who mentions that she and the other Brave Heroes are bound by a contract to fight the heroes. Whether this contract came from Loki or someone else is a different story.
** Even weirder when Story Veronica has a temporary alliance with the Order of Heroes to try to kill Hel, despite the fact that more heroes sent by Líf are under contract, while Veronica's forces aren't.
* IWorkAlone: Two of Pirate Harmonized Veronica's skill kit activates if the user is not adjacent to an ally, with Atk/Def Solo 4 giving the user +7 Atk/Def during combat, and Gate-Anchor Axe giving the user gains +5 Def/Res during combat and inflicting -5 Def/Res on the foe during combat and allows the user to gain a guaranteed follow-up attack. Ironically, she is paired up with Xander, and the main reason that Xander is going with her and is DressedToPlunder is to make sure that she isn't lonely when she wants to go to the pirate festival...
* {{Leitmotif}}: She has one simply titled [[https://gamepedia.cursecdn.com/feheroes_gamepedia_en/1/19/Bgm_event_serious2.ogg "Veronica".]]
* LightFeminineAndDarkFeminine: The Dark Feminine to Sharena's Light Feminine, due to dressing in dark clothing and being antagonistic.
* LittleMissBadass: She's a very powerful mage at only 13 years old.
* MagicStaff: Her Brave variant's weapon of choice is the staff, Hliðskjálf, which inflicts -4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res on the foe and all foes within 2 spaces of that foe after combat and grants +4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res to herself and all allies within 2 spaces of her after combat if she attacked, and the unique refine grants all allies within 3 spaces of her +3 Atk/Spd during combat and inflicts -3 Def/Res to all foes within 3 spaces of her during combat.
* MascotVillain: She was the face of the game, being the app icon, until Version 2.0.0, which updated the icon with an image of Fjorm. Subsequent icons would feature the active heroine of the current Book, until halfway through Book VI, when Veronica reappeared in the app icon in her Legendary form, and was still an antagonist.
* MightyGlacier:
** Her Regular variant has good stats all around, save for her Spd, which is fairly mediocre.
** Her Pirate Harmonized variant has great Atk and Def at 39 and 36, respectively, and good Res for a melee unit at 29, but her HP is below average at 38 and her Spd is poor at 19. However, if her Gate-Anchor Axe's effect is active, she's a LightningBruiser instead.
* LifeDrain: Her Valentine variant wields Pact Blooms+, which heals her for 4 HP per her attack if she is within 2 spaces of an ally.
* NeutralNoLonger: She sits out the conflict with Hel during the first half of Book III, until Loki points out that if Askr falls, it's her head on the chopping block next. She decides to nip that problem in the bud before it can spiral out of control.
* NighInvulnerability: [[spoiler:In Book VI, Chapter 3, her possessed self has Embla's Ward, which renders her completely invincible from all forms of attack]].
* NoSell: Her Legendary variant's Enclosing Dark has her ignore skills that prevents any of her follow-up attacks if she either initiates combat or is not adjacent to an ally. She also has Enclosure, where, in addition to boosting her damage by 25%, allows her to ignore non-Special DamageReduction skills when her special triggers and skills that decelerates her special buildup such as Guard.
* NotSoAboveItAll: While she normally presents herself as an ominous figure, Xenologue 1 reveals she likes to have tea parties.
* NotSoDifferentRemark: [[spoiler:Veronica recognizes that she can let her loneliness consume her just like it did Embla. She vows to change and begins to do so by asking if she can befriend Alfonse and Shareena]].
* OlderHeroVsYoungerVillain: Veronica is about thirteen years old, while Alfonse and Sharena look a little older, likely their mid-teens. Sharena even calls Veronica a '''brat''' once. However, her Legendary version subverts this due to growing significantly older, now looking like a young adult.
* OnlyFriend: Seems to regard the Mysterious Man as this. [[spoiler:Her bond with him goes deeper than just friends, as he is her brother by blood.]]
* PerpetualFrowner: Her default expression is a rather sad-looking frown.
* PlayingWithFire: Legendary Veronica's Enclosing Dark spell unleashes a raging inferno on her opponent.
* PlotRelevantAgeUp: In Book VI Chapter 9, [[spoiler:after being defeated while possessing Veronica again, Embla complains about how small and weak she is, and awakens her blood within Veronica to make her a more fitting vessel. Aside from the boost in power, Veronica is given a more mature body. She stays like this even after Embla's death]].
* PowerMakesYourHairGrow: Inverted, as Legendary Veronica has much shorter hair than any of her alternate forms.
* ThePowerOfFriendship:
** Her Spring variant's refined Veðrfölnir's Egg allows her to gain Atk equal to the highest total field stat buffs of an ally within 2 spaces of her during combat, and the unique refine allows her to give herself and any allies within 2 spaces of her +6 Atk/Spd and the [Orders] status effect at the start of her turn if she is within 2 spaces of an ally, as well as gain +5 Atk/Spd during combat if she is within 3 spaces of an ally.
** Her Valentine variant wields Pact Blooms+, where she inflicts -5 Atk/Res on the foe during combat and allows her to recover 4 HP per attack she performs if she is within 2 spaces of an ally.

* PrincessesRule: She has a significant amount of favor with the Emblian populace and the top advisors, due to restarting her father the Emperor's invasion of other worlds after his wife (Veronica's stepmother) called a ceasefire upon his death. As a result, she is de facto ruler of the country, despite the current Empress still being alive and Veronica herself not holding the throne. However, it's revealed in Book VI that her rule is not uncontested, and there are other political factions seeking to take her down.
* PromotedToPlayable: She placed 2nd in the women's division of the second Choose Your Legends poll, earning her a playable Brave variant. Unlike the other book villains however, her regular version still remains unplayable.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Gives one to [[spoiler:Letizia]] in Book VI.
-->'''Veronica:''' If you had everyone's best interest at heart, I would love to have you sitting on the throne, [[spoiler:Sissy]]... [[InadequateInheritor I am...not suited for it]]. I know that. But I hear the way you speak about our people... And even so close to the throne, [[ItsAllAboutMe you think only of yourself]], ignoring the suffering you cause. That is why I cannot allow you to become emperor... You are unfit for the throne!
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Her dress and cape are black with some touches of bright red in her accessories, and a complementing huge golden head ornament.
* RhymesOnADime: If she gets a garbage level up in her Spring variant.
-->'''Veronica:''' Not funny, bunny.
* SacredHospitality: When Reginn collapses in the aftermath of defending Embla from Niðavellir's army in Book V, Veronica allows her to rest in Embla's palace until she's fully recovered. She also allows Alfonse and Sharena to come and go as they please so they can check up on Reginn.
* SecretArt: Her Legendary variant has Enclosure, where it boosts her damage by 25% and allows her to ignore non-Special DamageReduction skills when it triggers and skills that decelerates her special buildup such as Guard.
* ShockAndAwe: Her Valentine variant has Growing Thunder, where when it activates she deals damage in a large vertical area before the start of combat equal to her Atk minus the foe's Res.
* SituationalDamageAttack: Her Spring variant's refined Veðrfölnir's Egg,in addition to giving her +4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat, allows her to gain Atk equal to the highest total field stat buff of an ally within 2 spaces of her during combat, so the more buffs that ally has the more Atk she will gain during combat.
* SourOutsideSadInside: Xander sees her as a lonely person who just needs some help. Seth also believes that despite her cruelty, she can still become a capable leader once she tries to focus on her people.
-->'''Xander:''' I am also bound in another way – by the deep loneliness I see in her eyes. She reminds me of one of my siblings who was once held captive in a joyless fortress. Perhaps you can understand why I could never oppose her. Or perhaps you cannot.
* SpellBook: Her weapon of choice is the green tome Élivágar, until she is powered up by the goddess Embla and gains the red tome Enclosing Dark.
* StatusEffects: If she initiates combat, her tome Élivágar inflicts Panic onto all enemies within 2 spaces of the target after battle (but not the target itself), reversing their stat boosts.
* StatusBuff:
** Brave Veronica has the staff Hliðskjálf, which gives +4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res to herself and allies within 2 spaces of her when she attacks, and the unique refine also grants +3 Atk/Spd to any allies within 3 spaces of the user during combat. Brave Veronica also has Windfire Balm+, which gives all her allies +6 Atk/Spd for one turn when it activates.
** Spring Veronica has Veðrfölnir's Egg, which gives her +4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat if she is at 75% HP or above at the start of combat, the refined version in update 6.4.0 gives her +4 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat as well as gain Atk equal to the highest total field stat buff of an ally within 2 spaces of her during combat, and the unique refinement allows her to grant +6 Atk/Spd and the [Orders] status[[note]]unit can move to an adjacent space of any ally within 2 spaces[[/note]] to herself and any allies within 2 spaces of her at the start of her turn if she is within 2 spaces of an ally, as well as gain an additional +5 Atk/Spd during combat if she is within 3 spaces of an ally.
** Pirate Harmonized Veronica & Xander's Harmonized Skill gives the user and all allies from ''Heroes'' and ''Fates'' the Resonance: Shields status effect where, in addition to giving +4 Def/Res during combat, allows them to deny any enemy follow-up attack at every first batte on each player and enemy phase for one turn. She also has Atk/Def Gap, where at the start of the user's turn they give +5 Atk/Def to the ally with the highest sum of Atk/Def on their team, excluding the user.
** Her Legendary variant has Atk/Spd Catch 4, where it grants him +7 Atk/Spd during combat if the foe either has a [Penalty] active on them or is at full HP at the start of combat, and an additional +2 Atk/Spd during combat if both conditions are met.
** As a Legendary Hero of Wind, if an ally has a Wind Blessing during Wind season in non-Aether Raids modes, she gives them +4 HP and +3 Spd if they're on the battlefield, which can be stacked with other Legendary Heroes of Wind, including copies of herself.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: [[spoiler:Following Book II, she displays this kind of attitude toward the forces of Askr.]]
* TakeMeInstead: [[spoiler:Follows Loki to Múspell to save Xander from being killed by Surtr.]]
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: She is theoretically allied with Surtr in Book II, but the cracks in their relationship are very obvious.
* ThemeNaming:
** Her tome's name, Élivágar, is the overall name of the great Norse rivers from which the names of the Nifl siblings and most of their weapons are derived.
** The name of her Brave variant's weapon, Hliðskjálf, is the name of the high seat from which Odin can see into all the realms.
** Veðrfölnir, from the name of her Spring variant's weapon, Veðrfölnir's Egg, is the name of a hawk that sits between the eyes of a larger, unnamed eagle, on top of the WorldTree Yggdrasil.
* VillainousPrincess: She is the princess of the Emblian Empire and the BigBad of Book I who wants to conquer the Kindgom of Askr. In Book II, she teams up with King Surtur to destroy Askr and defeat the heroes, [[spoiler:though she ends up betrayed and ultimately does a HeelFaceTurn]].
* VillainTeamUp: More of AntiVillain Team-Up, but her Harmonized Pirate variant has her team up with Xander in pirate wear.
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: [[AHeroToHisHometown She is very beloved in her home country despite being in charge of a war of conquest against Askr.]] So much so that when she is accused for murder by Letizia, she is still supported by a major fraction of her people who don't buy into her sister's lies, though by then, she is far from a villain.
* WhenSheSmiles: She's only smiled sincerely whenever she meets Bruno, and even then, her smiles have seemed half-hearted. But at the very end of Book VI, [[spoiler:a smile (if a slight one) as genuine as can be appears on her face as she asks Alfonse and Sharena if she and them can be friends, and while she is blushing, no less.]] Veronica even flashes a few more pronounced smiles in [[https://youtube.com/watch?v=2W82RiZDIqI the Book VI ending movie]].
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Her hair is white, and she's one of the game's villains, though [[AntiVillain more sad and lonely]] than truly villainous.
* TheWorfEffect: In the beginning of Book VII, Veronica makes a stand against [[ArcVillain Gullveig]] only to cut to [[BattleDiscretionShot after the "fight"]] with her beaten and Gullveig unscathed. Keep in mind, this is Veronica's Legendary form [[spoiler:utilizing the power of the Goddess Embla]]. The only reason she doesn't die then and there is Gullveig states that [[ItIsNotYourTime she's not supposed to yet]].
* WouldNotShootACivilian: One of Veronica's most redeeming qualities is her refusal to hurt civilians. In her eyes, the people of Askr will become members of Embla after she conquers it, and she wishes to be a good ruler to her people.

----
* ActionInitiative:
** His tome Valaskjálf allows him to counterattack first if he is at 50% HP or below at the start of combat and the foe initiates combat.
** [[spoiler:When he is possessed by Embla in Book VI Chapters 9 and 11]], his Veiled Valaskjálf allows him to counterattack first if he is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat and the foe initiates combat.
** His Winter variant's Peppy Cane+ prevents the foe from making any follow-up attacks if he is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat.
* ActuallyIAmHim: [[spoiler:He is the true identity of Zacharias, which was his alias when he became a friend of Alfonse and Sharena.]]
* AllThereInTheManual: While his name is listed as "???" in-game after his name was revealed, the game's internal files revealed his name months before the proper reveal in-story.
* AntiVillain: While he does technically serve as an antagonist, he is nothing but polite to all parties involved and is eventually revealed to be [[spoiler:a good guy who only does evil things because his cursed bloodline forces him to]].
* BigBrotherInstinct: He seems very protective over the younger Veronica. As revealed in Book I Chapter 10, he is her actual brother.
* BigDamnHeroes:
** [[spoiler:He saves the Summoner from Veronica at the end of Book I Chapter 10, under his Zacharias alias.]]
** He saved Hríd from being killed by Surtr and told him how to defeat Surtr for good before Book II Chapter 11.
* BlessedWithSuck: He ruefully notes that his ancestors may have beseeched Embla to bless their bloodline with her powers, but for him and Veronica that 'blessing' has done nothing but harm them.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: He's suffering [[spoiler:from the same family curse as Veronica. Unlike her, he's aware of it and actively trying to fight it or die if he can't, and even warns the heroes to stay away from him]].
* CharClone: He wears a mask similar to Char's, has pale hair, and is a recurring antagonist for our heroes whose intentions aren't initially clear. [[spoiler:He has prior ties to the Order of Heroes, too, being the missing Zacharias.]]
* ClimaxBoss: He is the final major boss (before Veronica) fought in Book I, and defeating him leads into several revelations about [[spoiler:the true nature of the Emblian royal line and what truly happened to Zacharias]].
* ClothingDamage: [[spoiler:While he's dying]] at the end of Book VI Chapter 11, he has a unique sprite in which his clothes are ripped off, exposing his chest.
* TheComicallySerious: While his dire outlook is usually warranted, given his blood curse, and later, having Veronica kidnapped by Surtr, he retains this even in more relaxed situations. One of his quotes in his Regal Rabbits outfit has him chastise the opponent, claiming they are "Insufficiently festive!" before striking them down.
* CommutingOnABus: He leaves after the end of Book I to avoid [[spoiler:giving into his curse and killing the Askran royals]] and occasionally returns, usually if Veronica is in danger. He is mentioned in Book II by Hríd as having saved him and given him knowledge of how to undo Surtr's Rite of Flames, and ultimately returns at the end of the book to rescue Veronica from being sacrificed, before he's required to leave once more. He makes a brief appearance during the Spring 2019 Paralogue and its Tempest Trial, but otherwise does not reappear until partway through Book V [[spoiler:to save the party and ask for their help in defending Embla and Veronica from Fafnir's invasion]], after which he promptly departs again. He returns at the very end of Book [=VI=], chapter 5, to solicit help on Veronica's behalf again and remains a major character [[spoiler:until his death in Chapter 11]].
* DamageIncreasingDebuff: His Winter variant's Peppy Cane+ inflicts -5 Atk/Res on the foe during combat if he is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: As a child in Embla, [[spoiler:he was imprisoned and mistreated over rumors of his mother being a spy. He was exiled after her death and became friends with Alfonse and Sharena, only to be forced to leave them too when the family curse started to make him insane and violent]].
* DarkMagicalGirl: Well, [[GenderInvertedTrope Dark Magical Boy]] in this case. He has a DarkAndTroubledPast consisting of [[spoiler:being abused and exiled over rumors about his mother, befriending Alfonse and Sharena (as Zacharias) and leaving them to protect them from his BrainwashedAndCrazy curse, ''and'' becoming his little sister's protector.]] That's not to mention his AntiVillain role in the present story, and [[spoiler:his desire to die and be free of his curse]].
* DeathSeeker: He repeatedly asks the Askr characters to kill him [[spoiler:to protect himself and his friends from his blood curse.]] [[spoiler:Tragically, he has to be put down in Book VI, Chapter 11 when Embla's curse becomes far too strong to resist, and he thanks Alfonse for finally killing and freeing him.]]
* DemotedToExtra: After Book I, he feeds you a little intel about the Sacred Seal Forge and then completely and jarringly vanishes from the narrative. [[spoiler:At least until the last chapter of Book II and during Book VI.]]
* DramaticUnmask: Midway through Book IV Chapter 9, [[spoiler:Askr asks him to unmask himself in order to see if Bruno resembles his ancestor Thrasir. Bruno obliges, to the pleasure of Askr, Alfonse and Sharena, and he remains maskless from that point forward.]]
* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler:He attempted to kill himself to end his blood curse.]] Needless to say, it didn't work.
* ExpositoryPronoun: While pretending to be Zacharias, he uses the informal, assertive pronoun ''ore'', contrasting his princely identity that uses the polite ''watashi''.
* FanDisservice: Book VI, Chapter 11 features a entire new portrait of him shirtless and his clothing damaged. [[spoiler:It also only appears when he ''dies.'']]
* FinalBoss: He's the final boss and last opponent of Book I.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: He shares the same weapon color as the Lance, and [[spoiler:is the only person to claim to know the fate of Zacharias, who is known to have wielded a lance, hinting his connection with him. His damaged art shows that he's conspicuously built for a mage unit too. As it turns out, Bruno is indeed Zacharias.]]
* FragileSpeedster: His regular variant has good Spd, but below average Atk and defenses, and low HP.
* GetBackHereBoss: In the first fight with him in Chapter 9 of Book I, his M.O. is to pelt you with magic while on horseback, then have an armored unit Swap him back into the ruins he's hiding in, while his personal Cleric heals up any counter damage he might've taken. He also has a Bow Cavalier paired with another Cleric to give you further grief.
* GradualRegeneration: His Ovoid Staff that his spring variant wields recovers 7 HP to himself and adjacent allies at the start of his turn.
* HeroicBuild: His damaged portrait reveals that he has quite a muscular physique under his armor. [[spoiler:Turns out he was a spear fighter, which would explain why he is so built.]]
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Book VI, Chapter 12 reveals that his death was done by his own volition, all in order to free Veronica from Embla's curse once and for all.]]
* HolidayMode: His Spring variant wears bunny ears and a white and purple suit while wielding an egg staff while his Winter variant wears a Christmas hat and a red cape trimmed with white wool while also holding a present sack and wields a large candy cane.
* ICannotSelfTerminate: Part of the reason he's such a DeathSeeker when he fights the heroes in Book I. [[spoiler:When he attempted suicide, the curse prevented it from working so that he has to pit himself against his former friends to get one of them to do it instead.]] [[spoiler:It happens again in Book VI, Chapter 11, and this time, he ''does'' die.]]
* ImprobableWeaponUser: His Winter variant wields a giant candy can as a magic tome.
* AnIcePerson: Valaskjálf is a tome that casts ice magic.
* IrislessEyeMaskOfMystery: His signature mask turns his eyes a blank white.
* KingIncognito: His true identity is Prince Bruno of Embla. [[spoiler:He joined the Order of Heroes under the alias Zacharias to find a cure for his blood curse and destroy his homeland from the outside, but left after he was compelled to try to kill Alfonse and Sharena]].
* LastRequest: [[spoiler:He asks Alfonse to take care of Veronica in his place as he's struck down in Book VI]].
* LateArrivalSpoiler: His Spring variant reveals his identity as Prince Bruno of Embla, which, at his release, is more than a year since the end of Book I.
* LightningBruiser: His Winter variant has fantastic Atk at 41, great Spd at 38, above average HP at 43 and Res at 34, and average Def at 29.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Since he disappears from the narrative at the end of Book II (barring nightmare clones), he isn't aware that [[EnemyMine Veronica and the Order of Heroes have made temporary alliances]] in Book III and IV. He isn't expecting Alfonse to aid the Emblan Empire without hesitation.
* MagicKnight: While it's not shown in gameplay, [[spoiler:he is proficient in lances under his Zacharias identity]] just as he is proficient in magic and staves.
* MrFanservice: He's mysterious, good-looking (as far as the CoolMask allows one to see), and his ClothingDamage reveals that he has a very well-toned figure. Said ClothingDamage, the most revealing in the game, became so well-appreciated that his ''TabletopGame/FireEmblemCipher'' card was given a shirtless variation based on it.
* MyNameIsQuestionMarks: Before his reveal as the missing Prince Bruno, his name in dialogue and battle is simply displayed as "???". Even after his reveal as Bruno, his name in battle is still listed as "???" outside of the Regal Rabbits paralogue until Book VI.
* PreMortemOneLiner: He has them coded in, but they can't be heard in his unplayable base form since he only uses the Rising Thunder special skill line, which triggers before combat.

''"You are insufficiently festive!"'' (''Regal Rabbits'')\\
''"I'll close out winter."'' (''Regal Rabbits'')\\
''"Endless spring!"'' (''Regal Rabbits'')
* PromotedToPlayable: While his regular variant is still unavailable to players, his Spring and Winter variants are summonable and therefore playable.
* PutOnABus: After Book I, Bruno is absent from the main story as he seeks a cure for his condition, [[CommutingOnABus though he occasionally returns for very brief appearances before leaving again]]. He finally comes back for good in Book VI.
* RecurringElement: [[spoiler:A prince from a neighbouring kingdom, childhood friend to the [[BrotherSisterTeam main sibling Lords]], whose country suddenly declares war due to a dark god that threatens to destroy the world and eventually possesses said prince, who briefly [[FightingFromTheInside regains consciousness]] long enough to plead for a MercyKill from his friends and tragically has to be killed. Unlike [[VideoGame/FireEmblemTheSacredStones Lyon]] and [[VideoGame/FireEmblemWarriors Darios]] though, the fact that "Zacharias" is Emblian royalty is initially a secret.]]
* ShirtlessScene: There's a RunningGag where, across all his versions and even in ''Cipher'', his damage art shows the top half of his outfit torn apart, [[{{Hunk}} revealing a very muscular figure]].
* SpellBook:
** His weapon of choice is the blue tome, Valaskjálf, which allows him to counterattack first if he is at 50% HP or below at the start of combat.
** [[spoiler:When he is possessed by Embla in Book VI Chapters 9 and 11]], he wields the Veiled Valaskjálf, which gives him -1 maximum special cooldown, and if he is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat he gains +5 Atk/Spd/Def/Res during combat and if the foe initiates combat he counterattacks first.
* StoneWall: His Spring variant has at default, for a healer, impressive 41 HP and 35 Def, a mediocre 30 Atk, but a low 24 Spd, and abysmal 14 Res.
* {{Stripperiffic}}: It has become a recurring theme that whenever Bruno takes damage, his shirt is completely shredded. His original damaged art started this trend, which was continued in one of his Cipher Cards. When he returns with a Spring costume, his damaged art again features his shirt being torn apart to expose his chest, to nobody's surprise. It happens one final time in Book VI Chapter 11 [[spoiler:when he's in his death throes]].
* StrongAndSkilled: Characters like Ephraim and Lyon demonstrate that raw physical strength does not equate to magical talent or technique. But not only is the Mysterious Man a mage with a signature tome and enough skill to cast spells while on horseback, his damaged art reveals he is also extremely muscular in spite of not fighting at close-quarters with weapons. Considering that his ''Cipher'' cards classes him as a Dark Knight, and that Dark Knights in the main games wield swords and tomes, it makes more sense that he's physically built, [[spoiler:considering that he's hiding his ''lance'' wielding skills, to prevent the Order of Heroes from figuring out that he is Zacharias, by only using tomes and staves]].
* StrongFamilyResemblance: In Book VI Chapter 9, Askr tells Bruno that he resembles his ancestor Thrasir when he removes his mask. [[spoiler:And not just his sister's AlternateSelf "Thrasir".]]
* SuicideByCop: [[spoiler:His family curse prevents him from killing himself, so he attempts to set this up by telling Alfonse he killed Zacharias, and Alfonse almost goes through with it until the Summoner realizes Bruno is Zacharias.]]
* ThanatosGambit: [[spoiler:Book VI Chapter 12 reveals he pulled this on Embla in the previous chapter. He secretly gave the Yggdrasil Key to Veronica via Xander, then pretends that the Key failed to work, letting himself get possessed and die by Alfonse's hands. This tricks Embla into a false sense of confidence, before Alfonse and Ash ''actually'' use the key against her in order to finally free Veronica from her grasp.]]
* ThatManIsDead: TheReveal that Bruno and [[spoiler:Zacharias are one and the same]] turns an earlier statement about a weapon he has into this trope.
* ThemeNaming: Valaskjálf is the name of the hall from which Odin watches over the universe.
* WildCard: He constantly switches from being a bloodthirsty villain to a calm, reasonable man who seems to be working towards the greater good. [[spoiler:It's a result of the real Bruno, a friend to Askr who loves his sister and hopes to find a peaceful solution to everything, being afflicted with a curse that turns him into a bloodthirsty monster who wants to see Askr burn and wouldn't care if Veronica burned with it.]]

->''"Ah! I am Letizia. Ninth in Embla's line of succession. I lead Embla's Order of Heroes. [...] You needn't worry, Veronica. As always, I am at your service without question. I have no intention of fighting any allies of yours, temporary as they may be. They are free to go. I presume you had not intended to encroach on Embla's borders... Is that correct?"''

The current leader of Embla's Order of Heroes, also known as the Curse Directive outside of Embla. She was the ninth successor to the Embla bloodline but has been stripped of her royal status due to her parent's actions. Even so, she is an older sister figure to Veronica.

'''Class:''' Green Cavalier
----
* ActionInitiative: Her Körmt allows her to perform a guaranteed follow-up attack if she is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat.
* AffectionateNickname: Veronica calls Letizia "Sissy" due to her and Veronica seeing each other as sister-figures. In the original Japanese, however, this is absent, she instead addresses Letizia as "onee-sama" (お姉様), a highly formal and respectful way to address an older sister, similar to how she addresses Bruno (onii-sama).
* AndThenWhat: Veronica is one to ask Letizia this when [[spoiler:Letizia explains to her how she will get the throne after Veronica is executed. To be more specific, she is concerned with how will Letizia rule Embla, considering how Veronica herself only started to consider the feelings of her own people after a talk with Seth. Letizia gets annoyed by Veronica seemingly talking her down and orders her to get lashed.]]
* AntiDebuff: Her playable has Rouse Atk/Res 4, where, in addition to granting the her +6 Atk/Res at the start of her turn if she's not adjacent to an ally, allows her to gain [Null Panic] as well, which nullifies the field stat buff into debuff the [Panic] status inflicts if she has it on her.
* ArcVillain: Is the main threat of the first half of Book VI, with Elm barely getting any screentime other than a few scenes. [[spoiler:However, Embla quickly takes over the spot once Letizia gets defeated.]]
* BigBadDuumvirate: With Elm.
* BigBadWannabe: [[spoiler:Try as hard as she might, but Leitzia could not hope to stop Veronica as soon as Askr got involved, and when she is backed into a corner and defeated, Elm quickly uses the chance to summon Embla, making it clear she was just a pawn.]]
* BitchInSheepsClothing: [[spoiler:She acts like a reasonable and caring older sister figure to Veronica, but in truth hates her because Veronica's father tarnished her family's reputation]]. However, [[spoiler:she does become ''slightly'' nicer after her defeat]].
* BlasphemousBoast: When summoned, she says the extent of [[spoiler:her hatred for Veronica]] exceeds even Embla's hatred for Askr.
-->'''Letizia:''' [[spoiler:My wrath knows no bounds. Not even the malice in Lady Embla's heart runs as deep.]]
* BreakingOldTrends: Book IV and V's Midpoint banners featured an ally Mythic Hero that helped out during the story, then became PromotedToPlayable. Book VI's Midpoint banner features Letizia, who is not only ''not'' an ally, but she also isn't even a Mythic Hero, just a regular old Hero. [[spoiler:On top of that, her death making her PromotedToPlayable would make her more in line with Otr, Plumeria, and Thrasir, but their deaths were later into their respective Books and they were also Mythic Heroes]].
* BrokenPedestal: [[spoiler:To both Veronica and Bruno. Veronica saw her as an older sister who would be a much better emperor than Veronica, while Bruno is implied to have been in love with her. Both of them are heartbroken when their faith in Letizia is shattered.]]
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: Implied with her and Bruno. The chapter in which this exchange takes place- Book VI, Chapter 7, Part 1- is titled, "Royal Courtship."
-->'''Alfonse:''' You were...close?\\
'''Bruno:''' Yes. When we were young... Back then, she looked like a princess had stepped out of a picture book. She was beautiful, gentle, and kind... When we were children, the two of us promised to--well, spoke of... plans for our lives together.
* CombatPragmatist: After [[spoiler:turning on the Order of Heroes]], she uses ruthless tactics such as using a soldier to set her enemy's supply convoy on fire and then having said soldier immolate himself to avoid capture. Anna, disgusted, says Letizia is as [[DirtyCoward cowardly]] as she is cruel.
* ConsummateLiar: She is Embla's propaganda maker, being able to make anyone believe whatever she tells them with perfectly crafted lies and deceit. [[spoiler:Bruno is able to turn this against her by starting up rumors that Veronica is innocent and everything is Letizia's fault. She has created so many fake truths that the moment something starts to oppose her word, her lies start to fall apart to the point that the entire kingdom is now divided between believing either Letizia or Veronica.]]
* DamageIncreasingDebuff: Her Körmt inflicts -6 Atk on the foe during combat, as well as inflicts -3 Atk/Spd/Def/Res on the foe during combat for each of the following conditions are met, up to -9 Atk/Spd/Def/Res: an ally is within 3 spaces of her, another foe is within 2 spaces of her target, a [Bonus] is active on her, and a [Penalty] is active on the foe, all of which activates if she is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat. Her playable version also has A/R Far Trace, which inflicts -3 Atk/Res on the foe during combat.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: [[spoiler:She assumes that, since she is technically the rightful Empress, the people of Embla will automatically accept her once Veronica is publically charged with murder. However, she didn't take into account that a good portion of Embla is genuinely loyal to Veronica due to how good a ruler she has been, and her plan ends up causing a civil war.]]
* DiscOneFinalBoss: [[spoiler:She's the main antagonist for the first half of Book VI, as the mastermind behind the plot against Veronica, but ends up being a secondary antagonist to Embla]].
* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler:She ultimately kills herself, unable to bear that Embla herself is possessing her in an attempt to kill Veronica because to Letizia, she alone must be the one who will kill Veronica, not Embla.]]
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: [[spoiler:As a self-serving schemer and manipulator, she's shocked when her web of lies unravels and much of Embla, including Veronica's prison guards, chooses to side with Veronica]].
* FreakOut: [[spoiler:For about one frame, she is visibly freaked out once Embla performs DemonicPossession through her blood.]]
* HeelRealization: [[spoiler:Has one after her defeat midway through Book VI. As a summonable unit, she still expresses bitterness over what has happened to her and admits she will never stop hating Veronica, but also shows remorse for what she did to her]].
-->'''Letizia:''' [[spoiler:The things I've done...the hatred I've built in my heart...those things are a part of me now. Even so, I wish no further pain on her. That much I can promise. She has surely suffered enough.]]
* HiddenDisdainReveal: [[spoiler:She was, for a while, a caring older sister-figure to Veronica. But when she learned that Veronica's father was the man who ruined her family's reputation, she swore one day to ruin Veronica's own reputation to turn her words of how her royal status doesn't matter, something she only reveals to her when she has already turned the other royals against her]].
* HitAndRunTactics: Her playable version has A/R Far Trace, which, in addition to allowing her to inflict -3 Atk/Res on the foe during combat, gives her [Canto (Rem.)], which allows her to move spaces equal to the remainder of the spaces she did not use yet after taking an action once per turn.
* HoistByHerOwnPetard: [[spoiler:Bruno exploits the fact that she has made too many lies by spreading rumors about Veronica being innocent, which causes confusion among the public opinion, leading to people seeing through her lies by working it out themselves. The end result is two factions that support Veronica or Letizia, much to Letizia's chagrin.]]
* ItsAllAboutMe: After Veronica asks her [[spoiler:[[AndThenWhat how she intends to rule]]]], Letizia is unable to come up with an answer, cementing how Letizia [[spoiler:only wants to get gratification and revenge without thinking of her fellow men, whom she openly uses as pawns. It's this lack of care for anyone else that makes Veronica refuse to hand the throne to her, because while she feels like she isn't worthy of it, Leitzia is so selfish that it isn't worth the risk.]]
* IWorkAlone: Her playable has Rouse Atk/Res 4, where if she is not adjacent to an ally, she gains +6 Atk/Res and [Null Panic] at the start of her turn.
* KickTheDog:
** [[spoiler:When taking Veronica into custody in Chapter 4 of Book VI, she tells the soldiers under her command that Veronica is just another prisoner and deserves no special treatment, so they can break Veronica's legs if she resists. This is ''after'' Veronica badly injured herself by throwing herself off the cliff to escape Letizia earlier.]]
** [[spoiler:When she visits Veronica in her cell, she feigns concern at how Veronica hasn't been eating... and then reveals that this isn't because Veronica is refusing to eat, but because Letizia ordered that she not be fed.]]
* MightyGlacier: She has by default great Atk at 40, good Def at 36 and Res at 34, but below average HP at 38 and poor Spd at 16. Her in combat Atk debuffs can grant her more effective bulk, making her even tankier, and she also gets a guaranteed follow up attack during combat, bypassing her awful Spd.
* ObviouslyEvil: She has [[WhiteHairBlackHeart white hair]], an ominous-looking design and is in charge of Embla's [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Curse Directive]]. [[spoiler:Naturally, she turns out to be responsible for framing Veronica.]]
* PowerOfTheVoid: [[spoiler:The Askr Trio correctly deduces that it's her doing that has caused the dark voids to appear in both Askr and Embla because defeating Elm before didn't make them disappear. She admits it.]]
* PragmaticHero: The Curse Directive is almost disconnected from the Emblan royal family's military, using deception, trickery, and other underhanded methods to ensure success. It also happens to do those methods ''to the kingdom itself'' if necessary.
* PreMortemOneLiner:
-->''"Curses upon you!"''\\
''"Time's up."''\\
''"How precious."''\\
''"For Veronica!"''
* PromotedToPlayable: After [[spoiler:being a major villain for the first half of Book VI]], she is made playable with the release of the "Book VI Midpoint: Letizia & More" banner in June 2022.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Despite seeing the Askran Order of Heroes trespassing on Emblian territory, and their countries being at war in Book VI, she hears them out and even warns them that the Emblian Order is doing military drills and they'd do well to avoid parts of the border. [[spoiler:In reality she's far from this, using her position as a way to get back at Veronica because of her father's past actions.]]
* RecurringBoss: [[spoiler:She is fought a whopping '''nine''' times throughout Book VI, starting from Chapter 4 until her death in the end of Chapter 8.]]
* SanitySlippage: [[spoiler:Though not as pronounced, by Chapter 7 of Book VI, reality reminds her that she stands to lose against Veronica's faction, which breaks her cold and manipulative attitude by replacing it with outright desperation that culminates in her defeat.]]
* SinsOfOurFathers: [[spoiler:In Book VI she goes against Veronica for what her father did to Letizia's side of the family, despite the fact Veronica doesn't care about titles but honestly likes Letizia...at least until Letizia reveals all this to her face.]]
* StartOfDarkness: [[spoiler:As she admits, while she always resented the fact that Veronica had been given the power and prestige Letizia felt was rightfully hers, what truly caused her to snap and form her alliance with Elm was Veronica casually admitting that being Empress of Embla wasn't nearly as important to her as her bonds with her friends and family. To Letizia, this meant that she essentially lost everything to Veronica's father for nothing, as Veronica doesn't even appreciate what she was given, and thus became hellbent on reclaiming what she saw as her rightful birthright.]]
* StatusBuff: Her Körmt grants her +6 Atk during combat if she is at 25% HP or above at the start of combat. Her playable version also has Atk/Res Catch 4, which gives her +7 Atk/Res during combat if the foe either is at full HP or has a [Penalty] inflicted on them at the start of combat, and an additional +2 Atk/Res if the foe mets both conditions, as well as Rouse Atk/Res 4, where if she is not adjacent to an ally she gains +6 Atk/Res and the [Null Panic] status at the start of her turn.
* ThemeNaming: Körmt is one of the rivers that Thor wades through in Norse Mythology every day he is to judged by Yggdrasill.
