* ClothingReflectsPersonality: Other than dressing in outfits you’d sooner expect a teenage girl to wear rather than a 30 year old, Sarah Lynn’s default shirt, her button-down top with contrasting sides, one side being light purple with white skulls, and the other side having a lavender and white striped pattern, can represent the different “sides” of her Hollywoo left her with, one being the still relatively sweet and caring girl, the simplistic pattern and cute colors of the stripes, and the other being her darker, unstable side she descended into, the skulls and darker color. It can also represent her implied mental illness, Borderline Personality Disorder, a disorder characterized by black-and-white/all or nothing thinking. [[spoiler: This becomes even more prevalent once she reveals that she didn’t actually choose that outfit/shirt herself, but was asked to by a company that’d pay her a $8k to wear it; the Sarah Lynn we were introduced to is shown to not be who she naturally is, but rather something Hollywoo turned her into.]]

However, it's later revealed that she's building up a tolerance, and needs to take more and more drugs to get a high [[spoiler: leading to her death from an overdose. For a few months before her last bender she had gone sober for the sole purpose of lowering her immunity and getting a better high afterwards]].

* RealityEnsues: She went sober for a few months to shed her drug tolerance, to regain her beloved highs. It was nine before Bojack called her. [[spoiler:When she gets off the wagon, the same amount of alchohol and heroin that she could handle was enough to dive her an overdose]].

* PleaseDontLeaveMe: In her introduction episode, Sarah Lynn's OnAgainOffAgainBoyfriend, Creator/AndrewGarfield AsHimself, tries to walk off on her. At first frantic, she immediately threatens to kill herself right there to stop him, then [[{{Yandere}} follows through with it]] by stabbing herself in the gut with a rusty bayonet.

* LustObject: {{Deconstructed}} She's is this for a lot of teens who grew up in TheNineties and still send her love letters that detail how she was the first girl they masturbated to. She thinks this is disgusting, but she doesn't want to disappoint people by saying so publicly.

* FriendlessBackground: Ultimately, she's never formed a relationship that went beyond the superficial. She's tried time again to bond only to be constantly disappointed time and again until she finally StoppedCaring. Once the novelty fades, everyone abandons her, one way or another.

* PetTheDog: During her singer phase, she wouldn't hesitate to do anything for her fans or even postpone whatever she was doing at the moment for a moment to catch up with her old co-stars, being openly affectionate with them. She was young enough that the ''Horsin' Around'' really became the closest thing she had to a family.

** All party girls and boys (and lemurs) only hang out with her for the drugs.

Both are washed-up, self-absorbed celebrities who bury their deep-seeded parental issues and resentment towards Hollywood under heaping mounds of substance abuse as a way to run from their problems. One of the main differences is that Sarah Lynn started earlier, crashed harder, and was more famous than [=BoJack=] ever was. Lampshaded:

* SafetyInIndifference: She doesn't care about anything anymore, not if she can help it. Intensely jaded and constantly high, using her entitled tabloid antics to distract herself from the emptiness of her life.

* YouthfulFreckles: Which represent her [[InnocenceLost lost innocence]] and her [[WomanChild stunted maturity]].

** Hollywoo sees her as a star on a comeback when she dips into pop music, only to toss her aside when she hits [[HollywoodOld her dreaded thirties]].

* FriendlessBackground: Sarah Lynn was isolated from her peers as a child due to homeschooling and her StageMom keeping her from normal social interactions. As an adult, she is desperate for attention and approval, but has no idea where to start.

* LackOfEmpathy: Sarah Lynn may often invoke sympathy for herself when there's something to gain from it but she rarely extends that courtesy to others (and vice versa). Nothing fazes her – she could pawn someone's special gift for drugs just as much as she could forgive someone for using her and there'd no problem as far as she is concerned. Once the novelty fades, however, everyone abandons her: [=BoJack=], seeing the wreck she has become, tries to portray himself as a father figure to her and ends up sleeping with her, adding a traumatic touch by the fact that she might have been abused by her stepfather; Hollywoo sees her as a new up-and-coming star when she dips into pop star territory only to toss her away when she hits the dreaded thirties; Andrew Garfield is her boyfriend up until her popularity fades and tired with her addictions and unreliableness, he dumps her; every party girl and boy wants to hang out with her for the parties and nothing else; all in all, she has never formed that deep a relationship with no one beyond the superficial, even if she tried time and time again before giving up.
* MaddenIntoMisanthropy: Man, it's a surprise she held out as long as she did in terms of sunny attitude, with Joelle, Herb, her mom, [=BoJack=] and every possible adult failing her and especially with the continuous demands of her musical career and fans who looked up to her image, not to who she really was. But even then she was already disillusioned with everything that glittered and seeked comfort into real friends, actual connections rather than anything material. Once Sarah Lynn realized that even those close to her could use her for their benefit, every value and hope she had vanished and thus a chaotic wreck was born.
* MadeOfIron: For a drug addict, she has shown to be very resilient. [[spoiler:Subverted in Season 3, where she dies after going on an extended bender with Bojack.]]

* ManipulativeBastard: She manipulates Bojack into forgiving her various party antics on the basis of her childhood trauma that he still feels guilty for, then appealing to his lust when that fails. {{Inverted|Trope}} later on, as Bojack unconsciously starts to become the manipulative one.

* InnocenceLost: Of course, as {{Flashback}}s show, it was a longer process. ''A long, painful, grueling process''. It says something when this happens as early as your childhood years when you're supposed to be holding onto it as much as you can.
* {{Jerkass}}: Not entirely unsympathetic given the life she's had, but Sarah Lynn unreliable, ungrateful, a moocher, brash, obnoxious, emotionally unstable, full of herself, doesn't care who she hurts, irresponsible in every way imaginable and a toxic influence in general.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Despite her flaws and being difficult to deal with, she often makes sharp observations about other people and Hollywoo's toxicity in general.

In other words, she fixes her stab wound with duct tape. Remember; she stabbed herself with a ''rusty bayonet''.

* LazyBum: Sarah would like to inform you, [=BoJack=], that she'd prefer to sulk and throw a party instead of working or heading for rehab, thank you very much. With the residual checks she gets, she has all the money so why not jump from party to party and crash with whoever she feels like it?
* LegacyCharacter: [[spoiler:As [=BoJack=] finds out, Sarah Lynn is only one of the many who have had their lives destroyed and corrupted by showbiz. Generally, she's not important and all kind of newcomers will most likely follow her same path.
