* CrazyPrepared: His preference when it comes to making tactical plans is that it is better to come overly prepared and outsmart a bunch of idiots within the Three Heroes Church, rather than to risk coming in under-prepared under the assumption that being an [[NotSoHarmlessVillain idiot means someone is harmless]].

* NotAGame: To jog up his brain to always be on high-alert in Medea, Ren has the need to constantly remind himself that everyone around him is a living being, and not again like he once thought before. The mindset of seeing everyone as [=NPCs=] would only make him apathetic towards whatever actions that could result in the loss of real life.

* PoorCommunicationKills: Realizing that Cullen's response in chapter 135 involves the Three Heroes Church be actively searching for Naofumi under Pope Balmus' orders, Ren is under the assumption that Pope Balmus is going to kill Naofumi once the latter is found. However, in truth, Pope Balmus actually wants to protect Naofumi for the political safety of Melromarc, and he has been toning down the rebellion of the Three Heroes Church as a whole.

* TakeThat: To deconstruct the PaperThinDisguise as a {{Crossdresser}} tropes in chapter 135, Ren uses bad fanfiction and comic books using stupid, StrawLoser antagonists getting outsmarted by weak disguises to be a pathetic writing decision that cannot be compared with real life.

** Assessing the environment and diverse members of the Three Heroes Church in chapter 135, he reminds himself that everything in Medea is real and NotAGame, where he can't just judge ObviouslyEvil stuff as something that could be passed off in badly written novels.

As the IdiotHero among the Four Legendary Heroes summoned to Medea, Motoyasu in his moment of desperation at chapter 98 is the one to deliver a RousingSpeech to boost Ren to perform his very best at defeating the Thunder Lizard.Lizard.
** He makes another smart comment in chapter 135, where he suggests for his fellow heroes to rescue Aultcray alongside Melty and Mutsu, since Aultcray looks to be intentionally left in a comatose by the Three Heroes Church. However, while the idea on surface appears beneficial, Ren sadly has to counter Motoyasu's response by introducing the cons of not having proper healers to deal with what's poisoning Aultcray.

* {{Crossdresser}}: As part of the infiltration plan Hayate made for them to infiltrate the Three Heroes Church, the Three Heroes dress up as womanly priests, with himself being the lead that interacts with all the other church members in chapter 135.
* PaperThinDisguise: The Three Heroes are given disguises of a {{Crossdresser}} by Hayate, so that their girlish appearance would look so unconventionally different than what the Three Heroes Church suspects in chapter 135, it would result in no one knowing who their real identities are.

* LeaningOnTheFourthWall: He close gets to seeing the world as a fanfiction in chapter 135, when his TakeThat response to Motoyasu is to claim that a bad writing decision in fanfiction is a plan only succeeding because of antagonists being dumbed down with the IdiotBall.

* NobodysThatDumb: As a precaution that exposes the flaws in Hayate's plan and Motoyasu's thinking to have the Three Heroes cross-dress themselves as girls to fool the Three Heroes Church in chapter 135, Ren claims that even the most stupid members of the church can't be so stupid to fail recognizing crossdressers. If an event like that were to happen, then it would be comparable to [[TakeThat bad fanfiction writers betting success on the the stupidity of others]].

-->'''Ren:''' No. We're not treating our life as a comic story. Only idiots, ''and bad fanfiction writers'' bet on their own plan's success on the opponent being stupider than they really are. I'd rather we go into enemy territory over prepared and find out they are dumber than we expected, than under prepared and get us caught in a trap. You want a repeat of what happened back in Trumpet? I'm not sure Gaelion is willing to save out ass again, if we are caught for being idiots.

** Played for Laughs. His eyes gets an irritating twitch to express his frustration of Motoyasu using Hayate's crossdressing scheme in chapter 135 as an excuse to act girlish as a way to understand Aunt Haruka.

Added DiffLines:

* ObviouslyNotFine: He tries to pass himself off as being capable of dealing with the people he had to kill from Kael'Thas' army, but Itsuki is clearly still traumatized by the lives he had to take.

Added DiffLines:

* SanitySlippage: Ever since having to go to war against Kael'thas, and getting opposing soldiers with nobles causes killed as a last resort to protect the innocents in Melromarc, Itsuki is left traumatized with himself. [[ObviouslyNotFine Even as he tries to make himself presentable and prepared]] to conserve with his colleagues, he is left mumbling at having to remember his situation with Kael'thas.

Added DiffLines:

* PopCulturalOsmosisFailure: As a reason to justify the crossdressing plan of Hayate as an effective PaperThinDisguise to blend in with the Three Heroes Church in chapter 135, Motoyasu claims the plan will be just as successful with [[Franchise/SuperMan Clark Kent]] and Ultraman. To Ren, however, because they both come from different versions of Japan, the latter fails to understand what type of person Motoyasu is referencing.

* ArmorPiercingQuestion: To shut down Motoyasu's tantrum to rush an attack on the Three Heroes Church in chapter 134, Ren questions him if a reckless rescue attack would prompt the Three Heroes Church to use hostages against them. Motoyasu in return fails to make a response, as all he can do is leave his mouth open to ponder at Ren's question.
-->'''Ren:''' And how do you plan to do that if they push them out and threaten to kill them?

* {{Foil}}: To Motoyasu, Ren acts as TheSpock that views handling problems and trust with the precaution of his enemies, all with Motoyasu bases his thinking on his emotions to save the people he cares for. Interacting with their party members, Ren is blunt in wanting to have all possible secrets to be revealed to everyone, in contrast to Motoyasu avoiding the personal matters out of the private comfort to individuals.

* SpottingTheThread: TheSpock: Putting aside his envy and insecurity to live up to his title as a hero, Ren operates as the most logical of the Three Heroes, as he takes the most direct approach in finding his answers, expose the possible consequences of tactics, and can reveal uncomfortable truths with his BrutalHonesty.

Iris, understanding Ren's insult, [[DeathGlare she daggers a glare at him]], despite being over to his insulting request.

Eventually, Ren asks how Iris is capable of giving straight answers right away without out hesitation, which implies she knows facts that are no one else knows. Despite his efforts to expose her, Ren fails to have receive proper answers from her, and in addition to third parties interrupting his conversation with her.
* TwitchyEye: His eyes twitch in frustration from Iris using her charismatic facade to dodge all of the questions he wants to ask her in chapter 134, regarding what secrets she is hiding from everyone, and if she should be trusted.

* BigWhat: Motoyasu is left shocked in saying his BigWhat in chapter 134 to respond to the fact that Iris had information about Naofumi and Naofumi's escape from the Three Heroes Church's imprisonment, yet kept the the knowledge a secret from everyone.

* {{Foil}}: His emotional side is contrasted by the logical intellect Ren utilizes to handle with the problems they face. Motoyasu is TheMcCoy who bases his decisions on the endangerment of others and cruelty of his enemies, which leads him to be a LeeroyJenkins that never puts any thought towards his actions. Ren, meanwhile, is more careful of the consequences ahead, so he often steps in to stop Motoyasu from taking any reckless actions.

* LeeroyJenkins: Angered by the Three Heroes Church enslaving Mutsu, holding Melty as captive, and framing Naofumi and Mein as criminals, Motoyasu announces his plan with his Three Heroes colleagues to tackle down the Three Heroes Church with brute force. For what idea he had in mind, it gets shut down by Ren calling out the flaws of Motoyasu's plan potentially going wrong by the Three Heroes Church turning Melty and Mutsu into hostages.

** Again by chapter 134, Motoyasu's anger gets the better of him, which prompts him to take the action to rampage into the Three Heroes Church, but is only stopped by Ren calling him out for having no plans in mind for what he plants on doing.

* TheMcCoy: A reason as to why he comes off as an idiot to others is his tendency to disregard all forms of a logical solution in favor of listening to his emotional side. He places his complete trust to his companions, yet never takes a direct approach to call them out of their unusual behavior, and will save the people he cares for, but usually in the form of a rampaging attack without a plan.

* SecretSecretKeeper: She has been aware of the fact that Naofumi and Malty had escaped the Three Heroes Church in Melromarc from a message given to to her by her father, but Iris chooses to keep the information out of the Three Heroes and their party members. Despite revealing the fact from Ren pressuring what secrets she is hiding in chapter 134, Iris uses the excuse of everyone's sentimentality as a means to hold her secrets, but Ren's suspicions push him to believe she has ulterior motives in mind.

* SuddenlyShouting: Angered at the troubles the Three Heroes Church keeps piling up onto Naofumi, Malty, and all their captured hostages, Motoyasu snaps in front of everyone in chapter 134 in an attempt to take the charge to fight off all the Three Heroes Church.

* WildCard: Downplayed. Though on the side of the Three Heroes to help them save the people that the Three Heroes Church had captured, her loyalty remains questionable, as she keeps facts hidden from them, or refuses them to take certain actions if it means her family house is damaged by what actions the Three Heroes take.

* DeathGlare: She subtly glares at Ren nosing in on the secrets she has been hiding at her mind in chapter 134.

* HesitationEqualsDishonesty: When asked by Motoyasu as to what had happened to Naofumi in chapter 96, Iris is slow to answer and when she does give one, it is a vague answer for Motoyasu to not think about and just focus on his own condition. On usual circumstances, Iris is likely to tell the truth in a concise form and is one of the smartest people around, but her hesitation causes Motoyasu to suspect her secrecy.

* ColorFailure: Returning back to Ren in chapter 134 after having to fight off a Siltvelt war started by Kael'thas in chapter 119, Itsuki's colors are drained out of him to emphasize the trauma he had to go through from [[WarIsHell war]].

* HeroicBSOD: Filled with trauma after coming back into chapter 134 to discuss with matters with Ren, Itsuki is unable to focus himself into having conversation with him, as the war killing armies had caused himself to reevaluate if he still qualifies as a hero.

* ThousandYardStare: He loses his ability to properly look at Ren in the eyes at chapter 134, after having to go through the horrors of WarIsHell, and the only words he can mumble out of his mouth are the actions he had to take on the young soldiers he wished he had not killed.

* BladeLock: His training with Eclair in chapter 134 starts off with them locking their swords together as a means for himself to improve his swordsmanship skills.

* CantTakeCriticism: Even while Eclea treats him with kindness of her criticism and praise regarding his improving sword skills, Ren feels his anger bottle up, as while he used to consider himself the strongest swordsman in Brave Star Online, all of his video game skills are for naught when used to apply for the real-life sword skills he needs to be a real hero.

* DamnedByFaintPraise: Eclea praises him for his swordsmanship skills improving in chapter 134, despite lacking the skills necessary to beat her. However, to how Ren sees the compliment, it only serves to bring him shame. From what Eclea's compliment implies, it looks as though he is so incompetent as a swordsman that he can't even beat someone who is not officially a knight.

However, such an answer filled with lots of FantasticRacism undertones only ends up enraging Itsuki for Mald to back off from providing anymore insulting comments.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Downplayed. His usual behavior is filled with his FantasticRacism views and is the most difficult member to get along within the party. A frequent argument Mald gets himself in is with Sir Crepe on trivial matters to chaste the former for his rude behavior. However, as rude as Mald may be, he is still a loyal member to Itsuki and will remain obedient to best assist the latter in being the best hero.
* NobleBigot: Downplayed. Mald is firm on holding his prejudice beliefs that demi-humans are worthless, but he continues being an obedient party member to help Itsuki in the best way he can, even if Mald's racism can make his occasional support appear rude or misguided.

* AdaptationalHeroism: In all iterations of ''Literature/TheRisingOfTheShieldHero'', the Legendary Heroes only saw the Isekai world they've been transferred to as a video game to give them an excuse to live out their fantasies. At worst, the Three Heroes had an ItsAllAboutMe attitude that made them ignorant to anyone, unless they gained some sort of reward. By ''FanFic/AmbitionOfTheRedPrincess'', the negative traits of the Three Heroes were AdaptedOut, and they are instead portrayed as mentally ill people that had their own personal troubles and misguided mindset to act as heroes. When the Three Heroes start taking Medea more seriously, after seeing genuine consequences and the mistakes caused by their own cluelessness, they become more focused on wanting to live up as the heroes that their own party members see them as.
* TheChosenZero: The Three Heroes all started out with no knowledge of Medea by the time of their summoning and saw the world as a video game for their ideals to play around in. The result was that they all lacked agency of their actions and just wandered around Medea with their companions following them around.
* SwitchingPOV: Throughout chapter 111, each Legendary Hero gets to have their own P.O.V detailing the events they are experiencing such as a discussion with the Three Heroes Church, and them getting into a a trap with an overzealous member of the church.

----
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: After being the best player of Brave Star Online for most his life as a gamer in his own world, he gets a feeling of insignificance in Medea because of the many soldiers that surpass him with their legitimate sword skills and magical powers, unlike his game skills.
* BeneathTheMask: He presents himself as a well-composed hero that can remain calm in the most uncomfortable of situations, but behind what he shows, Ren is a SociallyAwkwardHero and can be quite stressed through a few subtle features.
* BoundAndGagged: Invoked. His plan to find a way to damage the Soul Eater in chapter 93 is to either block out the mouth that is sucking away the magical attacks that are being thrown at it or to have the monster be pinned down.
* BrutalHonesty:
** After gaining awareness of Mein being an imposter to the real Myne of Samphor in chapter 66, Ren bluntly announces to Naofumi of Mein's deception as an imposter in a private conversation during chapter 85. The way Ren blurts it out is so blunt that as much as Naofumi wishes to deny it was false, he knows for a fact that Mein indeed is keeping secrets from him.
** Ulfra, who is questioning where her allies have gone in the fight against the undead during chapter 97, Ren bluntly answers that Ulfra's allies left her for dead. Though a clear answer, Itsuki finds it to be quite uncomfortable for Ulfra having woken up from her loss of consciousness.
* ClothingDamage: As a result of his rapidly growing muscles in chapter 93, Ren's clothing and armor are torn apart.
* DistinctionWithoutADifference: Ren is insistent on calling the Thunder Lizard as a T-Rex, but Motoyasu sees the creature as Godzilla. Ren objects to seeing the Thunder Lizard as Godzilla, since the monster doesn't look like Godzilla itself, even though the creature having [[{{Notzilla}} traits that resemble Godzilla]].
* DroppingTheBombshell: To breakdown Eclea's answer of being a close friend to Mein in chapter 111, Ren reveals crucial information to Eclea that "Mein of Samphor" is an imposter of the real one back in Samphor. By using the real Myne of Samphor to rebuff Eclair's statement, Ren is able to push her further down to see if she really knows who the Mein that travels with Naofumi is.
* {{Escapism}}: His enjoyment in wanting to spend his time alone on Brave Star Online is because outside of his video game life, Ren is TheGenericGuy where he lacks any outstanding skills to be unique to the world. With Brave Star Online, Ren is recognized for his talent as the best player.
* TheGenericGuy: Back from his original world, Ren never stood out of his population, as his school grades were on the average and after graduating, he was expected to become a {{Salaryman}} for whatever corporation that hired him. The only skill where he really stood out and excelled at was by being the best player in Brave Star Online.
* GrowingMusclesSequence: Ren copying the Sword of Loptus to boost his physical body at its peak results in his muscles massively inflating than what he could handle. His body had inflated in so much muscle mass that his armor and clothing had begun bursting in chapter 93.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Ren sees himself as a HeroicWannabe that lacks the experience of what it means to be a Legendary Hero to protect the people of Medea against the waves. In a strategy discussion during chapter 98, Ren is frustrated of himself for being unable to take part and understand anything, so he opts to wish he was just like Naofumi to better cope as a hero.
* InsistentTerminology: Ren and Motoyasu get into an argument with each other in chapter 97 about what they should call the Thunder Lizard. For Ren, he calls the lizard a T-Rex, while Motoyasu is insistent in calling the creature as {{Franchise/Godzilla}}.
* LetMeGetThisStraight: At chapter 111, Ren summarizes Iris' talk about nobility's conflict with the church without any grandiose exaggeration to get a clear grasp as that how the Three Heroes Church operates in dealing with the Legendary Heroes.
* LiarRevealed: Lampshaded. He compares the "liar revealed" plotline of many stories to what Naofumi and Mein are going towards in chapter 85 to warn Naofumi that trying to keep a lie as a secret will only lead to unnecessary problems that could be avoided.
* MightyGlacier: In exchange for the large muscles he gained from utilizing the Sword of Loptus at chapter 93, Ren's physique is at the best shape for striking powerful attacks, but he is struggling to balance himself from the large amount of muscle mass.
* NoSenseOfDirection: He realizes he has so much to learn about Medea and can't just call the world as an afterlife for himself, since he never even bothered to learn the geography of Medea in chapter 98.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: He has a strong dedication in wanting to be the strongest hero or be efficient at wielding his sword, so that he isn't overshadowed by the soldiers in Medea who have genuine combat experience.
%%* SoreLoser:
* SpottingTheThread: Ren makes a good point as to the T-Rex being unusually stagnant of its rampage in chapter 97, despit the creature not near innocent lives or buildings to destroy.
%%* StrawNihilist:
* PullTheThread: In chapter 111, to rebuff all of Eclea's attempts of her not wanting everyone to know why she would be relieved by Mein being with Naofumi, Ren reveals to Eclea of only one real Myne of Samphor existing to expose Eclea on how well she really knows the Mein the one that travelled with Naofumi to escape the Three Heroes Church. Before Eclea fully cracks on giving him an answer, Iris instead steps up to expose Mein of Samphor as Malty S Melromarc to prevent anymore confusion.
* UltimateGamer386: In the world of Brave Star Online, Ren is the highest ranking player for his great utilization of his sword skills. His skills can be so strong in the game that he can do battles that even a group of players have struggled to beat.
* UtilityMagic: Feeling useless as a hero in chapter 98 and hearing nobles talk about needing a quicker way to travel to bring what messages they have, Ren questions to himself if his only usefulness is his instant teleportation skill.
* WhatTheHellHero: He berates Itsuki in chapter 92 for recklessly shooting his arrows at the Void Dragon, despite having done strategies and training before the third wave. Subverted when it turns out that Itsuki was actually aiming at a floating island producing exploding fishes, and Itsuki's creative thinking instead impresses Ren in the end.
* WhatWouldXDo: From being unable to understand the complex strategies and bickering of the nobles in chapter 97, Ren asks himself as to what Naofumi would do in that sort of situation, since the latter was always selfless in going out of his way to help everyone.

The main insult Wyndia uses is to call Firo a "dumb featherhead", and each time Firo launches back her insults, Wyndia's comebacks always have her call Firo an even dumber featherhead.
* DefiledForever: Played for Laughs. She jumps onto Ren, believing him to be the Shield Hero and states her wishes to marry him. When Ren reveals himself to be actually the Sword Hero, Wyndia cries from having tainted her body over hugging the enemy of the Shield Hero. Ren needed to explain that he and Naofumi are friends, so that Wyndia doesn't disappoint herself too much.

* BlowingARaspberry: Unable to convince Raphtalia to abandon Big Sister Mein and Master Naofumi, Keel sticks her tongue out at Mein and Naofumi in chapter 90 under the assumption they are exploiting Raphtalia.
* CallAHumanAMeatbag: Being in slavery, Keel had picked up commonly used racial slurs people had said in Port Harp. One of those racial slurs is by calling the Shield Hero a "man animal" under the presumption that the latter is exploiting slavery onto Raphtalia.
* HarmfulToMinors: Her time in slavery has taught her racial slurs people have used as a way to commonly refer to slavers exploiting demi-humans.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Deconstructed. She has a nice side that she mainly shows to Raphtalia and cares for her safety. To Ren, Keel is respectful and is impressed for his decision to kill off the slavers that enslaved her. As for Keel's jerk side, it can be off-putting for Raphtalia and Mein, since it can be hard for them to work together if they are unable to cooperate at the third wave.
* AMatchMadeInStockholm: Discussed. Keel assumes that Raphtalia being a surrogate daughter to Mein and Naofumi is that Raphtalia is being exploited by them, since Raphtalia became a part of the party through being bought as a slave.
* StayInTheKitchen: Not a man, but believing herself to be a more experienced fighter and having been in a lot of fights before getting enslaved, Keel doesn't want Raphtalia to participate with the Shield Hero's party in fighting the waves. Another reason is that Keel is under the assumption that Mein and Naofumi are only being nice to Raphtalia to exploit her in their battles.

* AdaptationalJerkass: Itsuki is more obviously obsessed with his perception of justice, to the point of being noticeably unhinged. This was done to give Malty a clear motivation to ally herself with Naofumi over one of the other three Heroes. However, after Hob's death, he does change his perception of justice from judging those he deemed "evil" to protecting the innocent from genuinely evil threats.
* DastardlyWhiplash: Lampshaded. In chapter 86, he makes a remark to Duke Oify's mustache as being evil-looking, but Mein who has no idea of the culture in Itsuki's world, she wonders why he would connect a mustache to something villainous.
* DeathGlare: Though not that he directs it at Ren, Itsuki gains a glaring face in chapter 111 for his disgust at the Three Heroes Church for practicing the usage of slavery.
* ExactlyWhatIAimedAt: He looks to be aiming at the void dragon leviathan at chapter 92 and is blamed by Ren for shooting so wildly. It turns out, Itsuki was actually aiming at a floating island that is releasing the exploding fishes that are acting as a major danger hazard to everyone else.
* HeroicRROD: After spending his time firing at the floating islands containing the exploding fishes in chapter 92, Itsuki is described to be pale, sweaty, and can barely even stand from having shot so many arrows.
* PhlebotinumOverdose: To recover his stamina from shooting so many arrows at the third wave monsters, Itsuki attempts to chug a stamina potion on his belt. Before he could do so, he is stopped by Rishia and is warned of negative consequences that can occur from potion overdose.
* PsychoSupporter: Itsuki tends to act as one to Naofumi. While he supports Naofumi fairly often, it's due to his own psychotic obsession with justice which makes him fight anything he perceives as unjust. He does get better about it after Hob's death, however.
* SwitchingPOV: Chapter 109 starting off with Eclair's P.O.V in an omake where she learns of Naofumi and Malty being persecuted as criminals, due to hearing from Itsuki talk about what the Three Heroes Church had done. By chapter 111, the perspective of the same scene is continued onto Itsuki being the P.O.V where Eclair gets the full information and joins the side of the Three Heroes.
* TookALevelInKindness: Itsuki started out wanting to do justice, but is so obsessed with what he thinks justice is that he is noticeably unhinged, and makes incredibly poor decisions because of it. After seeing Lord Emon's actions and being forced to kill him, he learns that justice isn't about judgement but protecting people.
* YouCanBarelyStand: After launching out an Arrow Shockwave in chapter 92, Itsuki's HeroicRROD catches up to him and causes him to collapse. The only support he can have to keep him from falling down is to hold onto Sir Crepe and attempt to drink a stamina potion.

Contrast to Ambition!Mald, he stays with Itsuki to help him and despite all the scolding he receives for his rude attitude, Mald at minimum has a genuine loyalty to him.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: He is kept around the party for his physical strength but besides that, no one in the party can stand his {{Jerkass}} attitude. Mald's interactions with anyone is him acting snobbish and the only one who could command him is Itsuki taking action.
* JerkassHasAPoint: As much of a jerk he can be to the people he is condescending and even his own teammates, Mald makes a good point that Keel can't keep bickering with Raphtalia about slavery during a fight against the third wave's monsters.
* TeamMemberInTheAdaptation: Being slightly more heroic that his counterpart at ''Literature/TheRisingOfTheShieldHero'', Mald stays with Itsuki because he genuinely sees him as a hero to put his loyalties in, rather than follow what his canon self did to abandon Itsuki and turn him into an UnwittingPawn.
* ThinSkinnedBully: Mald has dished out plenty of negativity and abuse that is mainly directed to Rishia. Despite his appearance as a bulky-looking person, he can't take any insults or pain towards himself well, and is likely to cower in fear.

As Rishia repeats her question, she states it as wanting to know if Mutsu has the legal rights to protect himself from the Three Heroes Church, since he belongs to a Legendary Hero and looks like an adult.
* AskAStupidQuestion: Reconstructed. Asking a question in front of everyone in chapter 111 if Mutsu can protect himself from the Three Heroes Church via legal means, her question is shut down by Mald for looking stupid. However, by asking such a question, the Three Heroes and their party members are able to do outside-the-box thinking that could possibly outsmart the Three Heroes Church.

* GrewASpine: Previously in all of her interactions with Mald, Rishia is on the receiving end of his abuse and lacks the confidence within herself to stand up against him. Once the story reaches chapter 92, Rishia refuses to have the information she wishes to give for Itsuki to be shut down by Mald once again. When Mald tries to do so, Rishia shoves him away to really make a point for Itsuki to not drink more potions than he can handle.

Contrast to his canon counterpart where Motoyasu only views his female companions as a harem, resulting in him being a gullible idiot that is frequently taken advantage on.
* AdaptationalIntelligence: Downplayed. Motoyasu is still just as dumb like his canon self, as they both are unable to put their thoughts into making coordinated plans or prepare for unforeseen consequences. The difference the sets out Ambition!Motoyasu from his canon counterpart is that the former has the awareness to understand how the characteristics and relationship with his companions operate, something which contrasts Canon!Motoyasu being a gullible pawn to Malty, and eventually being driven to insanity in loving filorials exclusively.
* AdaptationalSympathy: Motoyasu's victory over Naofumi over the sacred duel in ''Literature/TheRisingOfTheShieldHero'' is portrayed as a villainous act that makes Motoyasu an InsufferableImbecile. His role as an IdiotHero and being so easily manipulated by Malty results in Motoyasu being a laughing stock for the audiences to hate for being unable to perform anything useful as a cardinal hero. At ''Fanfic/AmbitionOfTheRedPrincess'', Motoyasu loses to Naofumi in the sacred duel and the loss causes Motoyasu to have a HeroicSelfDeprecation that he is frilly rider and a hero that can't measure up to its status to do anything useful. His breakdown brings him Mein's sympathy for how pathetic he has shown himself from losing to Naofumi.
* AdaptationRelationshipOverhaul: At ''Literature/TheRisingOfTheShieldHero'', Motoyasu's main relationship was with Myne and he mainly acted as her personal attack dog. Being a sexist that believes women are angels that can do no wrong and treating the world around him as a game, Motoyasu lacked real personal connections with anyone. The closest he gets to finding love is with Filo and even then, Motoyasu perversion is to the point of insanity. Here in ''Fanfic/AmbitionOfTheRedPrincess'', Motoyasu has a more genuine relationship with his new female companions being Katarina, Bertia, and Iris. Even if his companions have different behavior patterns, Motoyasu has won over their hearts through being able to view past their quirks and love them equally.

* HealingHands: Motoyasu uses his heal spells onto Ulfra to treat the battle wounds she got from facing off the undead soldiers in chapter 97, but before doing so, Motoyasu first has Bertia and Kuro diminish Ulfra's cursed flesh. That way, Motoyasu's heal spell will have an effect.
%%* HeroicSelfDeprecation:
%%* KingheartedSimpleton:
* LeeroyJenkins: Angered by the Three Heroes Church enslaving Mutsu, holding Melty as captive, and framing Naofumi and Mein as criminals, Motoyasu announces his plan with his Three Heroes colleagues to tackle down the Three Heroes Church with brute force. For what idea he had in mind, it gets shut down by Ren calling out the flaws of Motoyasu's plan potentially going wrong by the Three Heroes Church turning Melty and Mutsu into hostages.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: While the other heroes take the time to learn the basic history of Melromarc and their predecessor heroes, Motoyasu ignored history, believing the subject to not be worth his time. When he does learn the King of Rape, Motoyasu is quick to connect the dots and is the last of the Legendary Heroes to understand why Melromarc hates the Shield Hero.
%%* {{Manchild}}:
* NeverMyFault: Right after Naofumi's FalseRapeAccusation is cleared up, Motoyasu immediately forgets the once hostile behavior he displayed towards him. When asked to apology to Naofumi by Itsuki, Motoyasu is left confused believing he did nothing wrong, refusing to acknowledge his aggression to Naofumi. Even as Motoyasu begrudgingly apologizes, he ends up being too arrogant to truly admit his faults.
* OrderedApology: In chapter 4, Motoyasu is ordered by Itsuki to apologize to Naofumi for having believed the latter of raping Mein. Motoyasu refuses to do so out of his pride and thinking he had done nothing wrong, until Itsuki explains that was behaving aggressively at Naofumi's misfortune. When Motoyasu does apologize, [[BackhandedApology he does so in a way that lacks any sincerity to Naofumi]].
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Motoyasu complains about himself and the other Legendary Heroes in chapter 93's omake -- because the Pope is so powerful that he can suplex a Soul Eater on his own, then what's the point in needing the Legendary Heroes to defend Medea?
* PapaWolf: Ever since the enslavement of Mushu in the Three Heroes Church's hands, Motoyasu has been steaming with rage from within and is constantly plotting with his other heroes on how they can storm the church to rescue the people that were enslaved.
* RightForTheWrongReasons: Learning from Iris in chapter 111 that Mein is actually Malty S Melromarc, the first princess of Melromarc, Motoyasu is able to conclude that the reason that King Aultcray hates Naofumi is because the former believes Naofumi to be too incompetent to keep his daughter safe afterwards the FalseRapeAccusation trial. What Motoyasu doesn't know, however, is that when the FalseRapeAccusation happened, he believes the trial to be a big misunderstanding caused by someone, but is unaware Aultcray caused the whole ordeal and wanted Malty to participate in framing the Shield Hero.
* RingOfPower: Invoked. Motoyasu went to Naofumi to enchant a wedding ring to prepare it for Iris' marriage proposal.
* RousingSpeech: He stops Ren from sulking in comparing himself to Naofumi's caution and heroic deeds, Motoyasu delivers a speech that he, Ren, and Itsuki, should push themselves at their limits to help everyone in their time of need at chapter 98.
%%* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan:
* StrongGirlSmartGuy: Inverted. As the Spear Hero, Motoyasu has the strength, status, and role as one of the Legendary Heroes to fight off the Waves of Catastrophy. Iris on the other hand is much smarter than him, focusing on providing money and resources for problems Motoyasu isn't able to solve with strength alone.
* UnwittingPawn: Aultcray uses the fact that Naofumi owns slaves in his party to manipulate Motoyasu into becoming an obstacle against Naofumi in chapter 26. Against Naofumi in a sacred duel, Aultcray believes Motoyasu to have a chance at easily winning, due to have a means to attack. If Motoyasu were to win, Aultcray would free Naofumi's slaves and exploit their slaves' freedom to deprive Naofumi of his additional allies.
* WackyMarriageProposal: He performs his marriage proposal to Iris at a public village, causing her to let out a LuminescentBlush and Mein cringing at the proposal happening in the awkward time possible. From afar, Iris and Katarina react to the marriage proposal by letting out a string of "aww....".
* WeWouldHaveToldYouBut: When he is finally let out on the secret that the Mein of Samphor, that Naofumi travels with, is an imposter of the real Myne of Samphor, Motoyasu freaks out from the reveal in chapter 96. Demanding Itsuki and Ren as to why they never revealed such an important truth to him, they answer that his lack of self-control would have made the revelation detrimental for Mein and Naofumi's trust for each other.
* WolfWhistle: Motoyasu makes a whistle in chapter 5 to tease Naofumi for using a single room with Mein as an excuse for them to sleep together, something which Mein agrees.

----
* BigWhat: In chapter 111, Iris initially thought of Eclea as an unsophisticated person unaware of how the Three Heroes Church would take their slimy actions too far when there is no one powerful enough to stop them. However, once Eclea makes herself clear that Naofumi is officially at the rank of a lord/thane, Iris realizes what Eclair is getting at, resulting in the former to say the trope name out of surprise.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: In disguise of Iris' almost always polite attitude to everyone, Malty is frequently suspecting her niceness to be a façade. As shown in a chapter 30 omake, Iris is willing to leave Malty behind as queen, just to control her as a PuppetKing with Naofumi. In chapter 48, Malty can see the difference in Iris' and Naofumi's kindness, as while Naofumi is genuinely kind to everyone, Iris' polite behavior is primarily to buy other people's loyalty.
* BreakoutCharacter: Originally, Iris was made by the author to act as a reference to ''Literature/AccomplishmentsOfTheDukesDaughter'', and to be Malty's playmate. As the story went on with its expanded world building, Iris was given a bigger role as to how she affected Malty as a playmate and is a major member of Motoyasu's party.
* CantHoldHisLiquor: As a child, she once drank wine near her friends and the result of the wine caused her to recklessly reveal that Melromarc owns her house six million gold coins. Afterwards the event, Iris refused to drink wine and risk revealing unnecessary information.
* CaptainObvious: Iris gives Eclea an obvious reason in chapter 111 of the Three Heroes Church being able to do whatever it wants because no one is strong enough to keep them in line. Right after giving Eclea the obvious answer the latter supposedly needed, [[ThatCameOutWrong Eclea rephrases her first statement]] as Naofumi being an official lord/thane that the Church can't condemn as a criminal, unless they want to face off all of nobility.
%%* TheChessmaster:
%%* ClingyJealousGirl:
* CrushBlush: The marriage proposal Motoyasu makes to her in Chapter 53/Chapter 45 results in Iris' face turning hotter than a fireball to understand what is happening.
%%* EveryoneHasStandards:
* ExactWords: At chapter 96, To hide Motoyasu from discovering what had happened to Mein and Naofumi with the Three Heroes Church, Iris simply responds to Motoyasu by explaining they had left. That is, except Iris doesn't give him the context as to why they would do so.
* FalseFriend: In all of the times Malty has viewed Iris as a secret enemy and a backstabbing friend in the play for the Game of Thrones, the assumption turns out to be correct, as Iris' plan is to use her coins to control Malty as a PuppetKing from behind, all while having the power from the shadows.
* GibberishOfLove: The moment Motoyasu performs his marriage proposal to her, Iris, in shock, struggle to talk and comprehend Motoyasu making a public proposal. Malty even lampshades on how her childhood friend who is viewed as a genius is struggling to form a cohesive sentence to reply.
* HighClassFan: When talking to others on serious subjects, Iris has a habit of putting a fan near her mouth to make herself look professional or to hide worries she might be displaying.
* InternalReveal: For many chapters of Malty hiding her real identity from everyone, Iris reveals to the Three Heroes in chapter 111 of her status as a princess, so that no more confusion and complications are caused from her Mein of Samphor identity.
* LoveMakesYouDumb: After getting proposed by Motoyasu in chapter 53, Iris' usually calm and calculating behavior is replaced by her being unable to make cohesive sentences to properly respond back to Motoyasu.
%%* LoveRedeems:
* LuminescentBlush: When admitting in chapter 111 to Rishia that most of her knowledge focuses mainly on trades and economics, she blushes out of embarrassment from being unable to use her intellect to properly deal with legal rights for the Legendary Heroes against the Three Heroes Church.
* NotSoOmniscientAfterAll: For most of ''FanFic/AmbitionOfTheRedPrincess'', Iris has portrayed herself in the eyes of Malty to be superior than her in every way, when comparing both to academic knowledge, charisma, and patience to deal with problems. By the time of chapter 111, Iris shows her more vulnerable side to the Three Heroes by lacking experience related to dealing the more militaristic and physical aspects to what the Three Heroes Church are causing. In response for her lack of knowledge to do anything, and instead rely on theories on what the church could possibly do, Iris can only blush out of embarrassment or keep a false calm attitude to hide her real feelings.
* NotSoStoic: Her usual attitude is to be calm or collected, but expressing her love o Motoyasu or having her party members be endangered can crack her calmness with a sense of anxiety she tries to hide with her charismatic knowledge.
* AnOfferYouCantRefuse: Subverted. Uttering the words of this trope to Malty, the latter is put under the assumption that Iris had sold the Spear Hero's extra party members to claim Motoyasu for herself. Iris, disgusted at the accusation, she quickly explains that she just gave the extra party members a lot of money to leave and makes it clear to Malty that they are nobles above the need for the usage of barbaric actions.
* OpenSecret: Malty has been hiding to Naofumi and all the Legendary Heroes of her princess status, but all the Three Heroes learn the former's secret from Iris revealing her real identity in chapter 111 to avoid anymore problems in the future trying to hide the truth.
* PuppetKing: Her ultimate plan in a chapter 30 omake and in the main timeline is to have her chosen hero gain the credibility that even if Malty succeeds in the Game of Thrones to become queen, Iris can just control her with the great riches her family has.
%%* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan:
* StrongGirlSmartGuy: Inverted. As opposed to Motoyasu being the Spear Hero being the main fighter of the group, Iris stays from the back to manage her economics, his decisions, and any additional resources to aid him.
* ThatCameOutWrong: In chapter 30, she makes AnOfferYouCantRefuse to the extra members of Motoyasu's party and the way Iris says her deal comes off as her selling the party members to slavery. In actuality, Iris had just given the party members a lot of money to leave Motoyasu and to have less competition claiming his love.
* ThinkingTic: The poses Iris is prone to making as a habit of thinking is to put her HighClassFan onto her mouth when speaking or to rub her head if she has to do heavy thinking on a subject.
* XanatosGambit: In chapter 84, she goes out of her way to assist all of the Legendary Heroes with the resources that she has on her disposal. That way, if any heroes win the Game of Thrones, Iris can use their indebt loyalty they have towards her to come out on top, as Malty suspects that this is what Iris is thinking. As a security measure, Malty would lack any ability to call her out if this really is the case, since it would either result in Malty having to reveal her identity or sour her reputation.

* HighHopesZeroTalent: She has a lack of experience when it comes to farming, but with her determination from her Grandpa Tom encouraging her to take on the career choice, Katarina is motivated to continue learning how to farm.
* ImStandingRightHere: From her point of view, she would gladly love and marry Motoyasu as her hero and suggests that if Malty were here, the latter would love Motoyasu. However, Malty disguised as Mein is standing near Katarina and personally finds Motoyasu to be too dumb to love.

* BreakoutCharacter: She once first appeared in the story to be a pop culture reference to her story, ''Literature/AnObservationLogOfMyFianceeWhoCallsHerselfAVillainess'', before getting an expanded role as Malty's childhood playmate and a bubbly member of Motoyasu's party.
* CallingTheOldManOut: Fed up with falling behind the talents of Katarina's bravery and Iris' intellect, Bertia calls out her father in chapter 83 for constantly managing her life. In Bertia's rant, she deconstructs how her father's controlling attitude has caused her to lose potential experience she might have gained and having a feeling of dissatisfaction from the lack of thrill. Ever since joining Motoyasu's party, Bertia admits to feeling the most alive in her life and at her most healthy as an adventurer. With her rant over, Bertia succeeds at convincing Marquis come to terms that she is ready to make her own choices.
* DumbassHasAPoint: While usually one of the less bright members of Motoyasu's party, Bertia makes a good point on what to do with the miracle seed. Since her group and the Shield Hero's group are on the land of the villagers, she suggest for them to make the decision by involving the villagers, so that they won't be disrespected.
* HealingHands: Bertia places her hands around Ulfra's cheek and works with Kuro to diminished the cursed flesh on her body, so that Motoyasu can get his turn into properly healing Ulfra's injuries.
* TheHeart: In Motoyasu's party, Bertia's frequent role is to be the supporting caretaking that uplift's Motoyasu's spirit in the times he feels let down on his role as a Legendary Hero.
* PowerStrainBlackout: In chapter 97, after she is finished with Kuro in using their dark magic to remove Ulfra's cursed flesh, they pass out from expensing a large part of their mana. Bertia, while passed out, is then carried by Julius to be transferred to Ascart County, until she is able to wake up.
* SharedLifeEnergy: In chapter 96, Bertia is offered to a [Chain Contract] with Motoyasu to share their life energy with each other, so they would be able to bond closer and be strengthened in fighting the Thunder Lizard.
* ThinksLikeARomanceNovel: Believing from Princess Malty's words that their noble lives are similar to how the villainesses in their romance novels are portrayed, Bertia declares herself to become a villainess to help the legendary heroes meet their true love, despite the consequences. It takes Iris to tell Bertia that their lives and romance novels should not be compared with reality.
* ThisLooksLikeAJobForAquaman: At first, Katarina would look to be the best option in doing a [Chain Contract] with Motoyasu to empower each other to face off the Thunder Lizard threatening Rabier County. However, while Katarina is physically strong, Bertia is chosen by the former to be the best option, since Bertia's dark magic would be the most effective in fighting an undead Thunder Lizard.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: Although Motoyasu feels undeserved of her praises after what had happened with the miracle seed, Bertia tells him of how caring of a hero he is towards his companions and his willingness to love them all, despite of their differences.
