I originally thought so myself, that it was Joe Cocker's version of "With a Little Help From My Friends" being used in The Wonder Years. But last time I saw an episode, after not having seen it for years, I was surprised to notice that it was not actually Joe Cocker singing. Whoever it was was clearly trying to get as close as they could to Cocker's style, but it wasn't him.

However, that was just my impression from one particular viewing of the show; I suppose I could always have been mistaken. So I won't edit the main entry until there's some kind of confirmation.

(On another note, I'd say that Seinfeld had a very identifiable theme tune. I could hum it for you if you were here.)

Ununnilium: From exceptions to the rule that dramatic shows have instrumental openings:

  • In animation: Teen Titans, W.i.t.c.h., Stargate: Infinity
Taking this out, because *none* of these are/were dramatic - they're action/adventure.

Drop Dead Gorgias: Uhh... This article seems mighty unfocused. Is it supposed to be about the Trope of using a famous song as the theme, or the theme later becoming identifiable? Why are so many entries in this page about not having a theme tune? I'm very confused. I suggest that at the very least, a No Theme Tune trope be created, and those entries be siphoned off htere.

Red Shoe: I'm going to take a stab at splitting this up and trying to bring it in line with some kind of stylistic convention.

Cy Reb Jr: I'm going to propose a trope wherein a theme tune is varied for one episode. So far, I've seen it done once for Monk and twice for Psych. (I'm also going to propose this in the right area, if I can find it.)

Is there a trope category for where they replay the show's theme in different styles depending on the environment the characters are in? Example, they go 8-bit music when in a video game, Oriental in China/Japan, etc.
