Red Shoe: It is not uncommon for the person they're trying to protect to have done it, but with extenuating circumstances: There's a CSI where the mother takes the heat for her four-year-old son, who did it on account of he was four and didn't know any better. And a Columbo where a man takes the heat for the woman he loves because she's dying of a degenerative brain problem and doesn't even know she did it herself.
Ununnilium: How about Reason 3, both Alice and Burton are innocent, but Burton thinks Alice is guilty?
